Here’s the thing about…

Here’s the thing about this pen- I WANT to like it a lot more than I do. It
writes beautifully, and I’m not really a rollerball kind of guy, the ink is very
nicely black, but the entire experience is thrown off by one nitpicky but huge
problem: the cap. There is no earthly reason for a pen’s cap to rattle around
this much when you’re writing, and it’s an awful distraction. Take the cap off
when you’re writing and the balance is all wrong, leave it on and it feels like
you’re playing the maraca with every stroke. It’s very annoying. Other than
that, though, it’s an excellent pen for the price!

Good looking pen, writes smooth. Only downfall is the ink bleeds through a lot

A truly unique pen. A rollerball that uses an ink cartridge. Writes well, I
love the flow and feel of the ink on paper. Sadly this will likely be like the
Zebra Fountain pen I love so much for every day use, getting the ink will be a
pain and almost not worth doing. Really do wish Zebra would either get their
ink cartridges out in the local stores or better yet (really, think about this
Zebra) fix this so they use an international cartridge. They are STAINLESS
STEEL after all, with a little care of the plastic parts, we can use them for a
long, long time. Get them so the cartridges aren’t the weak spot.

The pen itself looks and feels great and the ink is nice and dark, but I sould
have gone with a smaller line width. Pen writing was runny and thick at best.

Long-range inhibition within the zebra finch song nucleus RA can coordinate the firing of multiple projection neurons

The zebra finch forebrain song control nucleus RA (robust nucleus of the archistriatum) generates a phasic and temporally precise neural signal that drives vocal and respiratory motoneurons during singing. RA’s output during singing predicts individual notes, even though afferent drive to RA from the song nucleus HVc is more tonic, and predicts song syllables, independent of the particular notes that comprise the syllable. Therefore RA’s intrinsic circuitry transforms neural activity from HVc into a highly precise premotor output. To understand how RA’s intrinsic circuitry effects this transformation, we characterized RA interneurons and projection neurons using intracellular recordings in brain slices. RA interneurons fired fast action potentials with steep current-frequency relationships and had small somata with thin aspinous processes that extended throughout large portions of the nucleus; the similarity of their fine processes to those labeled with a glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD) antibody strongly suggests that these interneurons are GABAergic. Electrical stimulation revealed that RA interneurons receive excitatory inputs from RA’s afferents, the lateral magnocellular nucleus of the anterior neostriatum (LMAN) and HVc, and from local axon collaterals of RA projection neurons. To map the functional connections that RA interneurons make onto RA projection neurons, we focally uncaged glutamate, revealing long-range inhibitory connections in RA. Thus these interneurons provide fast feed-forward and feedback inhibition to RA projection neurons and could help create the phasic pattern of bursts and pauses that characterizes RA output during singing. Furthermore, selectively activating the inhibitory network phase locks the firing of otherwise unconnected pairs of projection neurons, suggesting that local inhibition could coordinate RA output during singing.

Zebra Skins – R & R Traders

Zebra Skins

[email protected] com

We sell top quality hides at wholesale prices. Do not pay high prices for hides when you can receive the same quality here. Our “A” Zebra hides are tops, equal to any sold for up to $2500 (unless the Zebra had a heart attack).  If your Zebra hide or rug is more, you paid too much.  WE SELL BURCHELL ZEBRA HIDES.  The Burchell are the “Plains Zebra” and the most common.  Culled as we do deer so as not to exhaust their food supply.   The HARTMAN MOUNTAIN ZEBRA and GREVY’S ZEBRA (extremely rare) ARE ENDANGERED SPECIES.

Zebra Hides are returnable (within two weeks) if not satisfied.

R&R Traders Import/Export does not sell endangered species of any kind.  Even old skins of endangered species purchased, encourage “Poachers “to go after these animals.

R&R Traders Import/Export is located in Virginia , U.S.A. within easy contact . Purchase made from an overseas supplier or dealer that sells endangered skins  can be risky.

All our skins have been thoroughly processed, approved by a Government Veterinarian and inspected by U.S. Customs & Fish & Game Authorities to assure valid acceptance into the United States.

The Hartmann (Mountain Zebra) of southwest Africa tends to have a sleek coat with a white belly and narrower stripes than the Plains Zebra. It has two subspecies and is classified as endangered.

RILA partners with Zebra on (R)Tech Innovation Center

Dive Brief:

  • Zebra Technologies, maker of mobile computers, and software-enhanced barcode scanners and printers, is partnering with the Retail Industry Leaders Association’s (R)Tech Center for Innovation to help RILA identify and harness emerging technologies to the benefit of the global retail industry, according to a RILA press release.

  • One area of focus for the partnership will be data security and sharing. Retailers are generating vast amounts of actionable data about processes and assets that can be leveraged to transform their operations to improve business performance and outcomes, the press release stated.

  • In addition to partnering in the (R)Tech initiative, Zebra also is a sponsor and partner on RILA’s Asset Protection Leaders Council, which includes senior executives in retail focused on asset protection, loss prevention and risk management.

Dive Insight:

Last March, RILA got together with Accenture to announce the (R)Tech Center for Innovation, and at the time it sounded like the latest effort by retail sector parties to tap into the technology magic and innovative spirit of start-up companies, while also giving those start-ups a boost. The (R)Tech Center joins similar efforts begun by individual retailers, such as the Target+Techstars accelerator program.

However with RILA at the center, the (R)Tech Center is more of a broad industry effort — it’s advised by executives from several retailers, including Best Buy, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Lowe’s, Target, Walgreens, VF Corporation, Westfield, Foot Locker, GameStop, QVC, Unilever, Energizer, AutoZone and Coca-Cola. The project also gets help from established venture firms and incubators, including Andreessen Horowitz, Bain Capital Ventures, Commerce Ventures, Facebook, Greylock Partners, Google, GSVlabs, Shoptalk, Techstars and XRC Labs.

The Zebra partnership gives the program a different point of view, as it’s neither a retailer nor a start-up, having served retail and other industries as a technology supplier for many years. But that may be exactly what RILA is looking for here — a partner that can bring expertise and experience around the parallel retail evolutions toward mobile commerce and greater adoption of Internet of Things.

We have seen evidence of the insistent migration to mobile shopping, with smartphones accounting for as much as 25% of online retail sales. Meanwhile, a study earlier this year from Zebra itself suggested that 70% of retailers are planning IoT deployments. Both of these movements are generating huge amounts of data that retailers can leverage and must protect, but they may need help.

The best budget. Does not smear, lies perfectly in the hand, does not tire when writing, the surface is very pleasant to the touch. Recommend!

Yuri , 06/05/2014

Pen paste is identical
The pilot didn’t like the ergonomics, the thin body looks extremely cheap.

Ekaterina , 06.10.2014

Excellent handle. It may look simple (alternatively, you can take Zebra Rubber 101), but the quality compensates for everything. The ink is closer to light, does not smear. Easy to write at any tilt. I have been using these pens for a long time – ideal!

“Checkered Zebra” is a very kind and very musical, interactive performance about friendship, about a dream, about the importance of having your own bright personality.

An unusual zebra is born in the jungle – a checkered zebra. All zebras laugh at her that she is not like everyone else, and drive her out of the herd. A zebra in a cage is alone in the wild jungle. The talkative parrot spreads the news of this among all the inhabitants of the jungle. Upon learning that the checkered zebra is in trouble, the monkey, tiger and elephant go to her aid.The caged zebra and her new friends will face real trials: a meeting with an insidious, toothy crocodile and a cunning, always hungry king of the jungle lion. At that moment, when it would seem that nothing can save friends, nature itself comes to their aid. The wise Baobab hides them under his branches, dissuades them from plans to repaint the zebra and reveals the secret of how to help the zebra in the cage become full-fledged inhabitants of the jungle …

According to the “experts”, this performance can rightfully be called a performance of musical hits!

Don’t miss it! Waiting for you!

With the help of dummies and flies, zoologists explained why the zebra is striped

Using differently colored dummies of animals, zoologists experimentally confirmed one of the hypotheses explaining the striking appearance of African zebras.

Unfortunately, when answering a child’s question “why is a zebra striped?”Therefore, we have to get out, referring to one of the existing hypotheses: either the coloring of zebras, merging in the herd into an indistinguishable flashing of stripes, misleads predators, or it performs an important thermoregulatory function in hot climates (it was found that the stripes of zebras coincide with deposits of subcutaneous fat), or (perhaps the weakest hypothesis) unique striped patterns help animals recognize each other.

Now the mystery of the zebra has been partially solved by the efforts of Hungarian and Swedish biologists, who experimentally confirmed another explanation – the introduction of blood-sucking flies into confusion.

In itself, such an explanation of the camouflage of a zebra (although in this case it is more correct to speak of a repellent: the hypothesis of camouflage was ridiculed by Charles Darwin, who rightly pointed out that in open spaces where zebras graze, contrasting black and white stripes are unlikely to help animals merge with the environment ) cannot be called new – it has long been noticed that the tsetse fly almost never attacks zebras, the scourge of all African mammals.

The tsetse fly hypothesis was put forward back in the 80s of the last century, but it remained unproven, since the mechanism of action of the “striped repellent” of zebras was incomprehensible. A team of zoologists tried to check it, published an article in the Journal of Experimental Biology with the quite Kipling title “How the zebra became striped.”

To solve the mystery of zebras, Dr. Gabor Horvath, who led the study, from Eotwo University, did not equip an expedition to Africa, preferring the meadows in the vicinity of Budapest to savannas.

It is clear that neither zebras nor tsetse flies are found in Hungary, but this did not bother the doctor. In addition to the relatively rare tsetse fly, African animals are also greatly bothered by horseflies that are widespread throughout the world, which are not lacking in European pastures. To find out exactly how the coloring of animals affects the behavior of flying blood-sucking insects, it is possible without the participation of the zebra itself – with the help of dummies covered with special glue-bait.

Using differently colored dummies in places where cattle graze, zoologists have counted the number of insects attracted by a particular color scheme.

It turned out that horseflies are most attracted by dark color of skins, and less – by light color. But the striped coloring took not an intermediate place between the monochromatic dark and light (as one might suppose), but the latter, thus attracting the least number of insects.

Further biologists decided to experiment, differently changing the thickness, saturation and angle of black and white stripes. It turned out that the thinner the stripes and the more vertical their pattern, the less horseflies flocked to the painted model of the animal.Ultimately, much to the surprise of zoologists, the black-and-white pattern that attracted the least number of malevolent flies most closely matched the stripe pattern of African zebras, thus confirming the repellant hypothesis.

It remains to explain why it is the vertical black-and-white coloring that most effectively scares away flying blood-sucking insects.

The explanation, as the authors of the article believe, lies in the fact that the attention of insects, whose larvae develop in water, is attracted by horizontally polarized light reflected from the water surface of lakes, rivers and puddles, and the polarized vertically misleading, not allowing to correctly recognize vertically colored striped objects that the insect brain simply “does not notice”.

Be that as it may, such an explanation does not provide an answer to the question of why the evolutionary selection of the striping gene affected only zebras, bypassing other grazing animals. Here, most likely, the repellent hypothesis alone is not enough.

Although some role, as shown by simple experiments with colored dummies, the factor of vertical polarization of light in the process of natural selection, no doubt, played.

About all this, in the absence of good literary versions, and should be honestly told to the child, who along the way receives a lot of interesting information about the polarization of light, natural selection and methods of insect reproduction.
