HP Ultrabook 14” Laptop with Intel Core i5-4310U, 4GB RAM, and 250GB SSD (Refurbished, A-Grade)

This slim, lightweight laptop boasts a highly portable design, but doesn’t skimp on power. Its solid-state drive loads files and launches apps in a snap while its 8GB of onboard memory ensure that everything runs smoothly, even if you’re juggling multiple tasks at once.

High-Definition Graphics

Stream shows, catch the latest movie trailers, or explore an online video game’s vivid fantasyland in crisp, clear detail. Saturated with about 1 million pixels, the display produces image quality similar to what you’d see on an HDTV with 720p HD resolution. Such sharpness and clarity also make the text on your favorite news and social-media sites clear and easy to read.

Solid-State Drive: Speed and Reliability

The built-in solid-state drive (SSD) performs the same duties of a traditional hard-disk drive, but up to 100 times faster. Unlike hard-disk drives, SSDs don’t rely on moving parts to write, store, and retrieve data; instead, they use flash memory chips that can boot up your computer and launch apps in mere seconds.

Without the moving parts, SSDs are also lighter, take up less space within your computer, and are less susceptible to damage and data loss from computer bumps.

Video Chat with Anyone, Anywhere

A built-in webcam can make it feel like people miles away are in the room with you, helping you connect more clearly than with a phone call or email. Collaborate with colleagues in other offices, listen as your niece or nephew rapturously explains their finger painting, or laugh every time your friend’s cat walks across their keyboard.

About HP

When iconic company Hewlett-Packard was born in 1939, it was not in a gleaming laboratory or during a late-night study session at a prestigious university. It was in a 12’x18’ garage that contained only a workbench and a used drill press. University friends Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard sold audio equipment to Disney (which used them during Fantasia production) and became HP soon after. Their humble garage is now marked with a plaque bearing the title “Birthplace of Silicon Valley”.

HP’s innovations laid the groundwork for the Valley’s surge in technological advances. Between the creation of the first handheld computer, which connected to printers and cassette drives, and development of speedier 64-bit processing technology currently used by brands such as Apple and Microsoft, HP cemented itself as an architect of current tech trends including the tablet and smartphone.

It’s a community-conscious company, too; HP has donated to charity since 1940 and offers free recycling for all electronics, regardless of brand, at Staples.

Best Refurbished Dell XPS 13 Laptops with Core i5 and Core i7

Does Dell XPS 13 makes a good refurbished laptop candidate?

Yes it makes a grate refurbished laptop choice. And to build up on our previous points we should mention the body itself.

All XPS 13 models are made from aluminum and carbon and not only look and feel great, but last much longer than consumer graded models. The design remains pretty much classic – and classy – and only the later models come in a new look or two.

Obviously newer models come with faster CPUs but as a whole, the range is more than decent when it comes to power. The U and Y series CPUs are super efficient (15W and 3.5W), and don’t add to much heat stress on the system. This and the lack of dedicated GPU makes the XPS 13 a battery efficient.

Ports on most models of XPS 13 are an OK selection for devices this light and slim, which is to say they can’t compare to a standard 15-inch laptop, of course, but are better than many other ultrabooks.

Dell XPS 13 is Linux friendly (prefect driver support), to the extend that it is sold with preinstalled Ubuntu. For those of you involved in IT (programmers and sysadmins), and not on ThinkPad hype train, this may be interesting. Keep in mind that if you opted in for Linux, not all desktop environments scale as well as Windows with QHD and UHD resolution. Gnome and KDE are your best bet.

All this holds true for new and refurbished models alike. We’ve mentioned this before but at Dell Outlet keep a stock of excellent selection of returned and renovated models at especially good prices. But you need to know exactly what you want and be ready to wait a bit and check availability often, since the best deals are swooped up quickly. Dell Refurbished don’t keep stock of XPS 13, so no need to check there.

Refurbished Dell XPS 13 9300 (2020 edition)

CPU: Intel Core i5-1035G1 @ 3.6 GHz | GPU: Intel 10th den UHD Graphics | RAM: 8GB DDR3 | Storage: 512GB SSD M.2 | Display: 13.3 inch QHD @ 1920×1200 IPS 60 Hz  / Touchscreen | OS: Windows 10 Pro | Release date: January 2020

Where to buy?

Although a 2020 model, Dell XPS 13 9300 is available as refurbished at a very competitive price. It is not the usual consumer graded laptop, but a premium model with the outstanding display and strong compact and lightweight body with a premium look. Making this revision of Dell XPS 13 a natural choice for refurbished.

Dell’s XPS series has always stood out among the compact notebooks in terms of look and feel. The chassis of the XPS 13 9300 is made of aluminum and carbon fiber reinforced plastic and it is not only beautiful, but also stable and strong. Thanks to its thickness of just 15 millimeters, it is also easy to transport and handle.

For the 2020 revision, Dell repositioned the webcam, moving it in a much more convenient place above the display. The earlier models had their camera below screen, which made the user look strange in online conversations.

The keyboard is good with large keys and a short travel of around one millimeter. The surface is rubberized with a very pleasant sound when typing.

The trackpad surface is large with about 11×6.5 centimeters, the surface lets the finger slide easily.

The display is the one of the things we liked the most. It has a matt surface with very low-reflection. The 13.4-inch panel has a 1920×1200 pixels resolution with aspect ratio of 16:10 –  6.8% larger than the previous model. This change makes the display feel very large and pleasant to work with. The colors are vivid with full sRGB capability and AdobeRGB and DCI-P3 of around 77 to 80 percent.

An Intel Core i5-1035G1 delivers a good performance, and together with eight gigabytes of RAM and the 512 GB SSD can handle even video editing tasks.

Overall, the Dell XPS 13 2020 delivers a strong performance and with great feel and look.

Refurbished Dell XPS 13 9360

CPU: Intel Core i5-7560U @ 2.3 GHz | GPU: Intel HD 520 | RAM: 8GB DDR3 | Storage: 512GB SSD M.2 | Display: 13 inch QHD @ 3200×1800 IPS 60 Hz  / Touchscreen | OS: Windows 10 Pro | Release date: November 2016

Where to buy?

In the XPS 13 9360 ultrabook Dell have kept all the wonderful qualities that made previous models so popular, while adding a few upgrades that make it a bit faster, a bit more powerful and a bit more distinctive, if you prefer your devices stylin’ in gold.

The silver option is still available for more traditional users and regardless what color you choose, you get a classy and durable aluminum chassis.

It’s a very light laptop, under 3 lbs., which is to say 1.22 to 1.31 kg – the lighter model is the FHD non-touch version and the QHD+ touchscreen is the heavier one, though you could hardly call it a burden to lug around. Either display comes with really thin bezels (InfinityEdge) which is always a big plus.

One of the new additions is a 7th generation Intel Kaby Lake processor and depending on the specs you need, you can get a refurbished XPS 13 9360 with up to 16GB RAM and a variety of SSDs.

This model also has a fairly decent set of ports for a laptop this slim – two USB 3.0, an SD card reader, a Thunderbolt 3, which means you can get a dongle and connect to pretty much anything you want, and of course, a headphone jack.

Refurbished Dell XPS 13 9370

CPU: Intel Core i7-8550U @ 1.8 GHz | GPU: Intel HD 620 | RAM: 8GB DDR3 | Storage: 256GB SSD M.2 | Display: 13 inch @ 1920×1080 IPS 60 Hz  | OS: Windows 10 Pro | Release date: March 2018

Where to buy?

A brand new design and an even lighter and slimmer body, as if previous models weren’t already super portable, the Dell XPS 13 9370 is a great laptop, one of the most popular devices – new or recertified – and with good reason.

There are different systems to choose from, all including an Intel’s 8th generation Core i5 or Core i7 processors and a selection of RAM and SSD configurations.

It is worth noting the display bezels are even smaller than on previous models and you can choose between a standard Full HD and a 4K touch display, both super bright and with great colors.

Dell have now gotten rid of the old charging connector and the XPS 13 9370 has two Thunderbolt 3 ports, a micro SD card reader, one USB-C port and a headphone jack.

The XPS 13 now has two fans and thanks to them and an internal redesign this a cool laptop to use – it will get a little warm if used to its maximum, but the surface never gets unpleasantly hot.

Plenty of pros but one con worth mentioning – in order to make the laptop even lighter (especially the 4K touch option) the battery is a bit smaller and will last you a bit less than on older models. It is still more than decent compared to many ultrabooks, but a bit of a disappointment to be honest.

And a quick note on the new designs: this XPS 13 model is available in rose gold with a white glass fiber woven interior (don’t worry, it cleans well) and the traditional gray exterior with a black carbon fiber interior.

Both are aluminum, of course – no horrible, cheap and flimsy plastic for the XPS 13.

Refurbished Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 9365

CPU: Intel Core Y Series @ 1.3 to 1.5GHz | GPU: Intel HD 615 | RAM: 8GB DDR3 | Storage: 256GB SSD M.2 | Display: 13 inch Full HD @ 1080p IPS 60 Hz  / Touchscreen | OS: Windows 10 Pro | Release date: April 2017

Where to buy?

For fans of the XPS 13 looking for a convertible, a refurbished Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 9365 will hit the spot.

It has most of the same features we like so much – a durable and super light chassis, a decent selection of specs to choose from, a nice backlit keyboard, even though you can also use a pen to write on the touchscreen in tablet mode. The pen is sold separately however, keep in mind.

This 2-in-1 device runs on an Intel 7th and 8th generation Y series CPU, which means it is a little less powerful than a standard XPS 13 but it is still better than most convertibles.

Keep in mind ports are – unsurprisingly – very few. We always try to make a note on ports, especially on slimmer machines and in this case you get a microSD card slot rather than the full size SD card slot, a Thunderbolt 3 port and a USB-C port. So no USB 3.0 type A ports, which is a downside.

On the other hand, the gorgeous touch display and the aluminum and carbon fiber body are great, as to be expected in a XPS 13.

And it’s important to note that the hinges that allow a switch from laptop to tablet mode are really tight, which – for us at least – is a plus. This ensures the device will last longer than most of its class and type and when used as a laptop, there is very little bounce and wiggle.

Best Deals for Fujitsu LIFEBOOK U574 Ultrabook

Romanov Maxim, 03/29/2017

metal case.

Similarly with the previous speakers, the loop broke, the battery burned out, a year later the hard drive also died. I didn’t do the loop, I ordered the battery in England, changed the hard disk, but in order to extract the information from the old disk, you need to find and replace the burned-out controller somewhere. Raised all of Moscow to my ears, I hope for a miracle! the display has an insufficient opening angle and very, very pale colors.

I definitely do not recommend it!

Zhuravlev Dmitry, 20.11.2016

1. Lightweight
2. Perfectly keeps the battery charge
3. Complete set with SSD works super-fast

1. The loop broke after 1.5 years of operation.
2. Prices for spare parts are very expensive relative to competitors.
3. Inadequate conditions of Fujitsu for the purchase of spare parts and repairs
4. Fujitsu in Russia does not care at all which service centers serve its equipment.

Service life – 2 and a quarter of a year.
At the time of purchase, I did not see any analogues in the price-quality ratio, since the closest competitor was 10tyr more expensive.
The keyboard bends a little, but it does not interfere, and does not affect the operation.
While new, it keeps the battery charge for a long time: during an 11-hour flight on an airplane, it worked 9 hours: 2 hours of work with documents + 3 films. After a year, the battery went down, but even so it works for at least 3 hours.
Dragging modern “toys”, while it does not hang, if you roll up and deal with documents in parallel + the Internet.
The Internet is always at hand, since there is support for 3G
The touch screen is a show-off, personally I was not particularly useful.
Now a cry from the heart:
Six months after the guarantee, the left hinge broke and with it the plastic overlay that closes the hinge.
I would like to clarify right away that the operation is gentle. Over the previous 10 years, I have replaced 4 HP laptops, there were no problems with any.
The representative of Fujitsu in St. Petersburg was unable at the time of purchase to name the address where to repair it.
I live outside the city, so there was no time to make major repairs.I didn’t want to deal with the collective farm, only reliable service. The operation was straining, but somehow I got used to closing it without further damage.
Further, the breakdown began to grow: the touch screen began to move away from the rear roof.
In the central Moscow office of Fujitsu, a girl in Russian, but with an accent, insisted that I myself would not be able to buy spare parts and recommended contacting a dealer – an RSS service organization. This is “silent horror”. A separate review is needed here. Anyone who wants to can easily find information on the network.
The price of spare parts was found out from another dealer through a request. “Pleasantly” was surprised by the price of hinges – preliminary 8-9tyr, but after specification – 10-12
Approximately 5 times more expensive than competitive models.
I’m trying to decide whether to repair or buy another laptop.
In general, we don’t buy Fujitsu anymore. Something like this ….

Volodin Pavel, 08/18/2016

The battery keeps well.

Screen is dull in color, very rigid touchpad with inverted two-finger scrolling (MacBook style). The scrolling direction is not changed in the settings.

A batch of 10 pieces arrived – 5 with SSD, 5 with conventional hard drives. Of these ten, one did not have a WiFi antenna connected, the other stopped charging after a week of use. Dumping the battery through a dedicated button does not help. No speed with HDD. With SSD – in terms of speed without complaints.
UPD a few months later: 3 out of 10 are with dead batteries. Service is in Moscow.
UPD 2. One and a half years. 5 out of 10 laptops have already died. The warranty is over. The quality is disgusting.

Ultrabook ASUS Taichi 31 with two IPS-displays – we repair a laptop

Repair of laptops & dash; Repair ASUS

If a person has two eyes, why can’t a laptop have two Full HD displays?

Is one laptop display serious? ASUS decided that solid solutions cannot do without two displays.Perhaps in a few years we will consider a laptop with one display an anachronism, but ASUS decided to bring the future closer and presented a thin ultrabook ASUS Taichi 31 – with two 13.3-inch displays, which combines both a tablet and a laptop.

Featuring two 13.3-inch Full-HD displays, the ASUS Taichi 31 is an interesting combination of Windows 8 tablet and ultrabook. Despite the presence of two displays, the slim body accommodates modern hardware, which is perfect for a variety of tasks.

When the lid is closed, the Taichi 31 turns into a tablet with a powerful Intel Core i7 (or i5) processor and high-speed SSD. The multi-touch interface provides an intuitive way to interact with Windows 8 applications, and the included Wacom stylus can be used for writing and drawing.

When the lid is open, the Taichi 31 can be used as an ultrabook with a backlit keyboard and touchpad with full support for the new Windows 8 interface with gesture control.Naturally, the Taichi 31 allows you to display the same image on both displays. This type of use is optimal when making presentations without a projector or, for example, for sharing movies.

What are the features of the novelty? ASUS Taichi 31 is equipped with two Full-HD IPS-displays, which have a wide viewing angle (178 degrees). Naturally, all interfaces are available. Wireless (dual-band Wi-Fi with Intel WiDi and Bluetooth 4.0 support) and wired (two USB 3.0).

Taichi 31 has two cameras, one of which (5MP rear camera with autofocus) can record 1080p video. The battery life of the ultrabook device will be up to 7 hours when working with office applications and the Internet.

Trusted Design has received several awards, including the CES 2013 Innovation Award, the 2013 iF Design Award, and the prestigious G Mark of the 2012 Good Design Awards.

Discussion of Sony Vaio T11 / T13 ultrabook [fixed… – Page 25

Akioray wrote:

Moozg. An Ultrabook is an Ultrabook, not the limited and ugly device you imagine it to be. Its main distinguishing features are lightness and thinness, and not the absence of discrete graphics, cheap plastic and low reliability and performance. There is no need to justify the shortcomings that Sony makes with the concept of an ultrabook.

You seem to regard any lack of outstanding superiority as shortcomings.

Akioray wrote:

On account of equipment breakdowns, for those who were born on the "armored train", grew up and continue to drive, I repeat once again - Sony equipment before 2010 and Sony equipment after is like heaven and earth. Now a breakdown is a breakdown, and earlier devices were made simply indestructible and still work. Again, there is no need to justify the drop in the quality of SONY products with statistics, environmental conditions and sun spots.

I will repeat it to you again. Nobody has invented a perpetual motion machine and unkillable technology.Sony equipment broke down until 2010. Like other well-known and respected brands. And the same respected brands are now not as rosy in this respect as they were before 2010. On duty, I sometimes communicate with different multi-brand SCs (even which Sony does not repair) and have an idea of how many trucks of decommissioned laptops and faulty spare parts without a Sony label they take out every year for recycling. You have your own sources of information, I have mine.

Akioray wrote:

I, for example, never had any luck with Samsung equipment, touch screens were constantly buggy, the screen turned on and off spontaneously, etc. However, I am not saying that the whole company is bad, other people use their products and find nothing of the kind. "

Samsung technology now and Samsung technology before is like Sony technology before 2010 and after.

I have other data on the volume of repairs for this equipment (even adjusted for sales volumes). So personally, I cannot agree with your statement.

Akioray wrote:

“The question of economic feasibility.»

You look better at your Z21, with a disk drive for the price of a tablet, that's where the question of economic feasibility.

I’m looking at her. For me, this is also not a suitable option. As well as many other goods, the purchase of which for me personally is not advisable on the basis of my requirements, lifestyle, income, finally. But this does not prevent me from seeing how people consciously buy either too cool or not at all cool cars, phones, refrigerators, watches, pots, clothes.Apparently, they do this from their criteria of economic feasibility and other criteria important to them.

Akioray wrote:

“As for the ultrabook. Of course, I don't know, maybe someone can tell me how it is possible, using wi-fi (and not home, because the ultrabook is connected to portable devices, so to speak), upload / download videos to video hosting (especially with a duration of more than 10 15 minutes) "

There is such a thing a mobile LTE router called Yota, it distributes LTE via Wi-fi, you can safely upload videos and even download torrents!

And there is also such a thing that Yota LTE is not everywhere. And for a weekly system backup (which is highly recommended) to a home network storage (which is very convenient), even 100 megabit Ethernet is in practice faster and more reliable than Wi-Fi N. But what am I talking about, what are 100 megabits? Gigabit Ethernet has long been the de facto standard. I now have situations when I have to go to visit and I urgently need to merge a couple of dozen gigabytes of family photos onto the storage computer in order to show and leave them to relatives, so that they themselves choose what to leave as a keepsake.

Akioray wrote:

"the meaning of which in laptops I did not understand"

What kind of incomprehensible you are, and the meaning of FHD on modern TVs is clear to you, or are you watching the old Soviet "Horizon"?

The higher the characteristics of the display, the more beneficial to health, a hundred times have written about this here, but the "miracle forum" has absorbed all useful topics.

Surely you are right. The better the display, the better. And honor and honor to the pioneers with Retina. But now there is such a fashionable topic as 4K Video, but is this a reason now to refuse to buy a much more affordable Full HD TV for viewing Full HD, which still does not think to die and whose quality now satisfies 99% of the eyes of all mankind?

Akioray wrote:

"Probably, this is really a very significant step forward."

Yes Retina screen is a significant step forward, there would be no such steps, you would still be looking at 320x240 screens and square black and white graphics. If you are a fan of antiques I can sell an old Tetris.

Personally me and today’s 1366×768 from 1920×1080 from the distance from which I look at the laptop screen suit. Eyes do not complain, vision does not fall, I do not feel headaches and other unpleasant symptoms. I’m not a fan of Tetris

Akioray wrote:

“Well, judging by the pictures from CES 2012, the ultrabook concept presented there is strikingly similar to the already sold VAIO T on Ivy Bridge. Not?"

SK-Hardwired you read the correspondence in full, otherwise you did not grasp the context. Moozg and I are not talking about what Acer is like, but about where the VAIO concept was shown at CES and why Sony did not show anything else at other major exhibitions this year, AT ALL !!!!

Iiii? Is this an indicator? The magnificent and in many ways unique camera DSC-RX100 Sony has not shown anywhere either, but bam – and announced. And it will start selling next month. And this device has already been positively assessed by a large number of photographers in the world. Many big brands deliberately refuse to participate in major exhibitions or do not show concepts of upcoming products. Apparently, they do not consider this so critical.

Akioray wrote:

" It's not for me to explain to you what a quarter is in the modern computer world - this is the average lifetime of a model on the market."

Well, of course, during this time Sony will have time to make a worthy competitor? Well, let's see what the company will offer on W8

I don’t know and I don’t have the gift of prediction.Let’s see.

Akioray wrote:

"Plastic - well, it doesn't bother me in any way."

Plastic is yesterday, it is annoying, and mobile devices should be in metal.

If it bothers you – buy the devices you like in metal. But to other people, leave the right to choose. And then some kind of imposition of “fashion” is obtained.

Akioray wrote:

"I have been driving Z-ku in my backpack for the third year already"

Dear, you do not change the concept, do not confuse warm with soft, not only is the old Z made of carbon, not of plastic, not only is it Japanese assembly, so it was also made normally.

Yes, I got excited. But you said so energetically “for the metal” that it was a sinful thing to think that you also added carbon Z-ok to the plastic. Sorry, did not elaborate properly. I have no experience of long-term operation and transportation of purely plastic VAIOs. So I will not speak for ultra-reliability or flimsy.

Akioray wrote:

I have SZ, 6 years in my backpack and everything is fine too, because it is also made of carbon, not plastic, and then the backlash of the loops went, because it has a loop fastening system, not a cylindrical one hinge, but if it were all in the metal, there would be nothing.

Wouldn’t it be? Well, maybe, maybe. Or maybe not. Let’s not guess and use all sorts of “would”.

Akioray wrote:

"no scratches or cracks."

Not yet.

Yes. I don’t look into the future. But as I said, I saw enough scratched metal cases and scratched or squeezed Gorilla Glass. Probably, a lot depends on accuracy.

Akioray wrote:

" Here my yesterday's" sheet "was removed without any" hello or don't give a damn "" praising the "latest" "miracle products" by Sony, they can delete without warning)))) and close the topic, and complain to the FBI, who gave us the right to criticize the "breakthrough steps" of the mega-corporation?

We appreciate if forum visitors can share advice or solutions.Criticism is criticism, but it should not turn into rabid advertisements for other brands or just deliberately vilifying Sony on every topic with threats to come to Tokyo and bang on the table there. Especially when the same faces note only negative and almost no positive. You might think that they either only suffer from everything related to Sony, or still rejoice and successfully use the products, but out of modesty they are silent. This creates an unhealthy environment and scares people away.

The “sheet” was removed as offtopic and, unfortunately, a somewhat inadequate reaction to my sincere and emotional regret (yes, alexrz, what you said is a really annoying nuisance) with the appropriate service policy and legislation, advice to contact the ACC for repair under warranty.

Akioray wrote:

I subscribe. When we have the same service as in Sony USA, then give arguments, otherwise it turns out in fact we have one thing, and you feed us with some overseas examples.

See my answer by alexrz. Here from the critics just almost continuous overseas examples were with American prices. I gave similar counterexamples. If the official models on the Russian market went with prices in rubles, then it would be another matter …

Good to you!

90,000 ASUS ZenBook Deluxe 3 UX490UA Review: Astounding Slim Ultrabook

ASUS has earned praise for its ZenBook line of ultraportable laptops over the years. They combine the sleek design of ultrabooks with a good price tag. We don’t usually see a lot of groundbreaking new tech in a lineup, but not everyone needs it, and consistent build quality overall is a hallmark of the ZenBook. Some people just want a thin and light laptop that gets the job done and looks good at the same time.

ASUS ZenBook Deluxe 3 UX490UA is the older brother of the UX390UA, which we reviewed earlier. In fact, this is the same laptop, with a 12.5-inch display now a 14-inch one.It shares the same overall design and basic functionality. The machine even comes with a similar carrying bag. It’s available in Royal blue and Quartz Gray colors (the smaller model is also available in Rose Gold, which this 14-inch laptop doesn’t have). We loved this smaller 12.5-inch model, as well as a few caveats, and most of them hold true for this larger model as well.

So far so good: this is the basic formula for a high-quality modern ultrabook. The

UX490UA even eliminates one of our complaints about the UX390A with a single USB-C port. This larger model has three: one on the left next to the headphone / microphone jack and two on the right. You can charge the laptop using either of them, and the two on the right also support Thunderbolt 3 and DisplayPort 1.2. You can hook up two external 4K displays if you want, although the dual-core chips for ultrabooks aren’t quite designed for high-end multitasking that would require this sort of thing. The left USB-C port is Gen 1 with a maximum transfer rate of 5Gbps. The two on the right are Gen 2, doubling that to 10Gbps.

ZenBook 3 Deluxe configuration UX490UA costs $ 1,699.It’s not cheap, of course, but there are also more expensive premium ultrabooks on the market. Let’s take a closer look at building and configuring the software …

Ultrabook is a constant companion of modern man.Ultrabook has become our constant companion, it is used by everyone, from students to businessmen. The main task of an ultrabook is to provide access to the necessary information anywhere, regardless of the time. Naturally, an Ultrabook breakdown is a disaster for its owner. The sooner the ultrabook is repaired in Moscow, the less negative consequences will be for the user.

Repair of an ultrabook, like any mobile device, has its own specifics in comparison with repairing a computer. It cannot be done at random, armed with only one screwdriver. Components for ultrabooks are many times more expensive than for stationary systems, so replacing a failed video card or RAM chip is not always advisable. It so happens that the master has to do jewelry work, which allows the owner of a failed ultrabook to save his money. An example of such work is the repair of the motherboard of an ultrabook, in which an ordinary capacitor has failed. The cost of a failed motherboard can be comparable to the cost of the device itself, so it makes sense to repair the damaged part, rather than install a new one in an ultrabook.

Separately, it should be said about the efficiency. Searching for a service center in Moscow or a master can take a lot of time, besides, it is not a fact that the chosen organization or specialist will be able to quickly repair the ultrabook. In addition, it is often necessary to order spare parts or parts, the delivery of which takes a lot of time.It would seem that the situation is dead-end, but there is a way out.

What is a refurbished product?

Mobile phones, televisions, sound and sound equipment, computers, household appliances, etc. In 2015, 710 million electrical and electronic devices (1) of all types were launched on the market.A wave that grows a little more every year, thanks to innovations from manufacturers. The result: chasing the latest innovation increases our costs … and our waste. Faced with this exponential growth, an entirely new sector is taking on an increasingly important place: refurbished products.
To differentiate itself from unsold or second-hand goods, this new market is thriving amid the economic crisis and environmental concerns. But is it always worth choosing a refurbished product? How to tell a good deal from a scam? Does eco-gesture have a real impact? Can we still keep up with technological innovation?

Refurbished goods: what are we talking about?

Opportunity? End of episode sold out? Old fashioned models? The repaired product has nothing to do with all this. This is equipment that was returned by the customer for reasons not usually related to a malfunction (wrong choice, change of mind, etc.), or even a model of the exposition (the most frequently repaired item!). Hence, it is at least unpacked and processed, which technically makes it a second hand product.
Unlike a used product that is immediately returned to the market as is, or an unsold product held pending special sales, a refurbished product is returned to the seller where it undergoes a series of tests and checks in workshops or factories specializing in electrical and electronic repairs. devices. If repair or replacement of parts is necessary, they are carried out.

As a result, the equipment is presented in the “repaired to new” condition and again goes on sale with a big discount, on average about 50%, for certain equipment – up to 70%! Refurbished product must always be labeled as such and any repairs or minor cosmetic defects must be clearly indicated prior to purchase. Transparency is essential to running a good business! The refurbished market is currently dominated by mobile phones. Not surprising given the dynamism of the sector in which new products are linked. At least 2 million refurbished smartphones were sold in France in 2016 (2)!
On average, consumers spent 260 euros on a new phone. In 2014, 57% of French people said they were ready to test the refurbished circuit for their telephone equipment, and 13% had already taken the plunge. But it is not only the mobile market that is showing significant demand for refurbished products.

Where do the refurbished products come from?

The refurbished product may not have been in use for a long time by the previous owner; it may have never even been used … Specifically, refurbished equipment comes through three channels:
Customer Returns: As part of a recall within 14 days of purchase, as permitted by law, with or without a “satisfied” offer or refunded. “
The item was received, unpacked and returned. It is new, the manufacturer’s warranty is valid, there are no signs of use. It is repackaged and stamped “refurbished like new”.
Return After Sales Service: Equipment has been used and damaged. Breakage, fall, breakage … The customer replaced the product with a new one.
The defective device is sent to a repair shop: specialized technicians will check its operation, replace damaged parts and eliminate malfunctions.Upon leaving the factory, it retains the same appearance as the new product, and the work performed remains invisible to the buyer. The manufacturer’s warranty is no longer valid, but more and more resellers of refurbished equipment offer their own terms, not to mention the labels currently available. Thus, the product is guaranteed for at least 6 months.
Display and second-hand goods: these are also listed under the slogan “refurbished goods”, although their case is slightly different.
As a rule, these devices pass only operational tests without repair and often without repair; they may also show signs of wear and tear. But, on the other hand, the discount from the initial price is also much higher (-50% and more!).

(1) Source ADEME 2015
(2) Source Institut Gfk 2017

Why choose the updated one?

When thinking about the best compromise between a new product and a refurbished product, you can weigh the pros and cons against four criteria: the amount you are willing to invest, the variety of offers you will have access to, depending on the previous point, the warranty, offered by e-commerce or marketplace, and the environment! And yes, if that last point is important to you, remanufactured products are inherently recyclable.

Whether it’s just unpacked or months of display on the retailer’s shelves, the repackaged product remains second-hand.
Even if it is in perfect condition, it cannot legally be sold at its original price. Depending on the initial state of the device before the repair, the number and volume of repairs performed, or, more simply, the generation of equipment, the discount compared to the new manufacturer’s price can range from -20% to -70%.
Considering that the Frenchman changes his mobile phone on average every 2 years, this solution quickly turns out to be interesting!

The massive annual influx of new products in the form of high-tech goods or household appliances makes the concept of obsolescence particularly concrete.
As soon as the latest model of a tablet or soundbar comes out, it goes out of fashion with the advent of a new, more perfect model … And the same, if not more expensive!
Very few consumers today can claim to have the means to track market developments in real time. The offer of refurbished products keeps pace with the times, especially in the field of telephony, which is by far the fastest growing sector. The wide range of products available means we can afford the freshest produce.

Okay, inexpensive renovated, everything can be found; what about quality? Most equipment is no longer covered by the manufacturer’s warranty, but repairers apply their own warranty: at least 6 months or more, depending on the brand.
In addition, due to the sharp increase in supply, labels and certificates have appeared. Among them:
Certified Reconditioned Mobile Label, awarded by RCube.org, created by the Federation of Reuse Members, is the leading European standard for refurbished phones.
This ensures that the unit has passed through the hands of a professional repair professional.
Apple offers its own certification label for the brand’s products, offering, among other things, a standard one-year warranty.
Finally, refurbished product resellers offer their own rating scale for each product released for sale. These ratings describe the general condition of the device, whether it is almost new or showing signs of wear. Of course, the price adjusts accordingly.

What if this were the biggest problem in the refurbished market? The production of high-tech equipment leads to pollution, and the exponential supply leads to the generation of waste that is difficult to get rid of.
Planned obsolescence and the race to innovate result in the export of millions of tons of waste electrical and electronic equipment to developing countries, where processing them to recover rare but also highly toxic metals that make up their composition is a real environmental disaster.
The Remanufactured Product Principle extends the life of the devices and slows the race down to “always more”. Moreover, in 2016, for the first time, the market for new mobile phones in France fell by 6%!

How to choose a refurbished item

When you search the Internet for offers of refurbished products, you will quickly find platforms that specialize in buying and reselling refurbished devices. When you look at offers for refurbished products, we recommend that you pay attention to several criteria: the difference in price with the product sold new; the state of the product, in principle indicated by the platform; availability of a label, a certificate and, above all, a guarantee; Adequacy of the terminal to the latest operating system updates

Compare prices with the new model

Sounds obvious, but this is a required step. To calculate how interesting the price of a refurbished product is, you have to compare it to the best new price, as well as other platforms offering refurbished products, on which you will sometimes be surprised to see large price fluctuations depending on the reseller.

Look at the condition of the item

When comparing prices, you can see the difference in prices for the same model from the same dealer. This is due to the physical state of the product. If you take our example of refurbished smartphones, they are all perfectly functional, but not all have the same appearance. Some will look like new, while others will have micro scratches or bumps on the case. If this does not prevent the phone from working normally, a blow to the case will logically lower the price. If you are not too careful in this matter, you can get even more interesting prices.

Does the seller offer a label or certificate?

The European mark “Certified Reconditioned Mobile”, issued by the independent association Rcube.org, is intended to guarantee the quality of mobile phones being repaired by professionals. A quality assurance that the products have passed standard tests.
Several brands have also created their own certification label. This is the case, for example, with Apple, which offers “refurbished Apple certified products.” Other sites offer this certification as well, feel free to ask according to the site you want to buy from.
Choose old high quality products.
If you really want to be in business, look at products that hit the market 2-3 years ago. While exceptions may apply, this advice is especially true in high tech, where components and technologies change very quickly. For example, a smartphone released a year ago and refurbished can only be offered with a 10% discount. If you really want to do business, you often have to look for older, high quality products. If they are no longer cutting edge technology, they have been and still serve most of the needs of users very well.
