The customer surveys are provided in English, French, Spanish, Chinese, Russian and Japanese.

But instead of faltering, a lot of airlines all over the world rose to the occasion and used the global health crisis as a jumping-off point to improve the quality of their services, ensuring a safe flight for travelers. But do you know what is the world’s best airline 2021?

Qatar Airways secured the top spot in the latest ranking of the world’s best airlines by Skytrax, a U.K.-based consultancy firm that operates an airline and airport review site. The ranking was determined by the results of a customer survey, asking about the performance and quality of over 350 global airlines. The survey ran from September 2019 to July 2021.

Qatar Airways

This is the sixth time Qatar Airways has bagged the top prize at Skytrax World Airline Awards. Aside from being the world’s best airline this year, the Doha-based carrier also took home the following awards: World’s Best Business Class, World’s Best Business Class Seat, Best Airline in the Middle East, World’s Best Business Class Airline Lounge, and Best Business Class Onboard Catering.

“It is clear that Qatar Airways has maintained its high standards of innovation and service standards, both in more normal times and through the current global pandemic,” said Skytrax CEO Edward Plaisted in a statement on the results of the awards.

While many carriers have remained grounded for much of the past 18 months, Qatar Airways has remained operational during the pandemic.

“We never abandoned our loyal customers when they needed us the most, we continued flying to get people home and implemented stringent biosafety measures to provide strong reassurance for travelers, all while continuing to innovate to ensure we remain the airline of choice for millions of passengers across the globe,” said Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al-Baker in a statement on the company’s huge win at Skytrax World Airline Awards.

Following Qatar Airways on Skytrax’s list of the world’s best airlines are Singapore Airlines and ANA All Nippon Airways, securing the second and third spots, respectively.

Singapore Airlines

Named as the Best Airline in Asia, runner-up Singapore Airlines also won Best Cabin Crew, Best Economy Class Onboard Catering, World’s Best First Class, and World’s Best First Class Seat.

ANA All Nippon Airways

Third placer ANA All Nippon Airways, meanwhile, won the categories World’s Cleanest Airline Cabins, World’s Best Airport Services, Best Airline Staff in Asia, and Best First Class Lounge in Asia.

Qatar Airways Rated the World’s Best Airline

Qatar Airways is once again the best airline in the world, according to the Skytrax 2021 rankings.

Qatar is now a 6-time winner of the honor, including the last two awards dating back to 2019 – the awards were not given out in 2020.

Singapore Airlines, who won the distinction in 2018, finished second place in the 2021 rankings just ahead of #3 ANA (All Nippon Airways), #4 Emirates, and #5 Japan Airlines (JAL). Cathay Pacific Airways, EVA Air, Qantas Airways, Hainan Airways, and Air France rounded out the top 10.

Not familiar with Qatar Airways? Here’s our Review of Their Top-Ranked QSuites

Notably, Air France rose from #23 in the 2019 ranking to the number 10 spot for 2021. Dropping out of the top 10 was Lufthansa, which fell to 13 from the 9th spot.

Best Ranked U.S. Carriers

Delta Air Lines was the highest-ranked U.S. carrier at #30. Delta was 41st in the 2019 rankings.

Behind them at #32 was JetBlue Airways, which was the previously highest-ranked U.S. carrier in 2019 at #40.

Other notable domestic airlines in the top 100 are #39 Southwest Airlines, #60 United Airlines, #61 Alaska Airlines, #74 Hawaiian Airlines, #76 American Airlines, and #91 American Eagle. You can see the full list here.

Best Ranked by Cabin

When it comes to economy class, Japan Airlines was voted the best in the 2021 rankings. Japan Airlines also took the crown for best economy class seats. The airline has some of the most generous legroom and seat width you’ll find in economy on any airline.

JAL calls these “Sky Wider Economy” seats, and they live up to the name. At up to 19 inches wide, these seats are substantially wider than what airlines like American flies on many of the same routes, where you’ll get 16 inches to 17 inches of width. And when you are flying economy, every inch is critical.

How does the airline do it? JAL installs just eight seats in each row of economy on its Boeing 787s – while most airlines opted for nine-seat rows. That means much more space for every passenger.

Qatar, the overall winner, was just behind them at #2 with the usual suspects of #3 Singapore Airlines, #4 ANA (All Nippon Airways), and #5 Emirates.

Delta Air Lines did not make the top 10 worldwide but was awarded the best economy class airline in North America. Certainly not a surprise for anybody familiar with the major U.S. airlines.

Delta also finished 10th in best premium economy class airline worldwide, with the #1 spot going to Virgin Atlantic.

Delta topped the world rankings for best premium economy class seats for its Premium Select seats.

When it comes to business class, voters agreed that Qatar Airways’ QSuites take the cake. Qatar earned the #1 spot in the world’s best business class airline for 2021. Singapore Airlines, ANA, and Emirates also finished in the top 5.

As far as business class lounges, Qatar’s Al Mourjan lounge in its Doha (DOH) hub also topped the worldwide rankings. Air Canada’s Toronto (YYZ) lounge finished second. Notably, United Airlines’ Polaris lounges in San Francisco (SFO) and Newark (EWR) also finished in the top 10.

Despite United’s lounge system, Delta Air Lines still won the best business class in North America for their incredible Delta One suites.

For those with finer tastes, Singapore Airlines was voted the best first-class airline of 2021 for its incredible first-class suites on board its Airbus A380 aircraft.

Lufthansa took the second spot on that list with Emirates, ANA, and Air France rounding out the top 5.

About SkyTrax

SkyTrax’s rankings are one of many in the travel world, so they’re certainly not definitive. The company says its rankings are the result of 23 months of customer satisfaction surveys (Sept. 2019 to July 2021). Notably, SkyTrax says the 2021 awards comprise a mix of more normal travel times combined with some travel during the COVID-19 pandemic. Read more about SkyTrax’s scoring methodology here.

There’s plenty of reason to doubt aspects of the SkyTrax rankings – and many do. SkyTrax is a big airline consulting firm, and many question whether their clients get preferential treatment in their award classifications. But at the end of the day, you won’t find much argument in the top slots of each category.

Bottom Line

If you can find your way onto a Qatar Airways flight, we highly recommend it. Voters in the Skytrax 2021 rankings agreed, leading the Doha-based carrier to top the ranking for the sixth time.

Pobeda Airlines LLC, Aeroflot Group

September 29, Moscow. – Low-cost airline Pobeda (Aeroflot Group) was ranked among the best airlines in Eastern Europe according to the British consulting agency Skytrax. In the corresponding nomination of the Skytrax World Airline Awards 2021 Pobeda took sixth place, beating many traditional airlines.

General Director of Pobeda Airlines Andrey Kalmykov said: “We are very pleased to be in such a prestigious rating. Moreover, only 4 Russian airlines entered the top ten of the best, and Pobeda lost only two of them, taking third place. This is really cool, because our low-cost airline is in the same rating as traditional and even premium airlines. We are very grateful to our clients for choosing Pobeda and their trust. This is the most important reward for us, and we will do our best to become even better. ”

The World Airline Awards are considered the premier aviation award in the world and have an unofficial Aviation Oscar status. It is awarded annually by the UK-based consulting agency Skytrax, the leading global airline and airport service quality evaluator.

Ranked based on the world’s largest airline customer satisfaction survey. The study involved 13 million people around the world. The survey was conducted from September 2019 to July 2021: its results take into account travel experience both before the coronavirus pandemic and during antiviral restrictions.

Low-cost airline Pobeda is a growth driver for Aeroflot Group. Thanks to its flexible tariff policy and the highest punctuality, Pobeda remains the most demanded airline in Russia, maintaining the leadership in terms of flight load in the Rosaviatsia rating.

Pobeda is one of the TOP-3 Russian airlines in terms of traffic and is recognized as the fastest growing air carrier in the world, according to a study by one of the world’s leading analytical centers, CAPA (Center for Aviation). In addition, the British agency Brand Finance recognized Pobeda as the most expensive brand in 2021.

Since 2016, Pobeda has retained the status of the world champion in average daily flight time on Boeing 737-800 aircraft and is one of the most efficient airlines in the world.

British Skytrax collects reviews from millions of passengers and, based on them, compiles an annual rating of world air carriers.Business Insider talks about European companies that hit the top spots.

This time, Skytrax analyzed the impressions of nearly 20 million passengers from 105 countries. They evaluated 325 representatives of the aviation industry on 49 parameters – from ease of check-in to the comfort of seats and quality of service in flight.

Traditionally, companies from Asia are in the lead in the ranking, and the results of 2017 were no exception. The three leaders on the global list include Qatar, Singapore Airlines and Japan’s ANA All Nippon Airways. The last time Skytrax recognized a European carrier as “Company of the Year” was in 2006, when British Airways distinguished itself. Since then, residents of the Old World have not been ranked first.

Even though European airlines do not lead the rating, there are still quite a few of them at the top. Five carriers managed to enter the current top 20, one – in the top ten.Who deserves the highest marks?

10. Virgin Atlantic Airways

Country: United Kingdom
World Rank: 33rd

The company is considered the pearl of Sir Richard Branson’s aviation holding, although in fact his Virgin Group retains only 20% of the shares, and the American Delta Air Lines is the owner of the largest 49% stake. Nevertheless, passengers are reminded of the charismatic entrepreneur by many details – from the unusual purple lighting in the cabin of the liners to the stylish crew uniform.

9. Aeroflot

Country: Russia
World rank: 30th

Although in the West the Russian carrier is still sometimes associated with gray-haired pilots flying old Soviet planes through the treacherous Russian winter, this image is extremely far from reality. At the disposal of modern Aeroflot is a fleet of new Airbus and Boeing, and Skytrax at the end of 2017 recognized the airline as the best representative of the industry in Eastern Europe.

8. Norwegian

Country: Norway
World Rank: 28th

Over the past decade, Norwegian has helped bring economical travel back to the North Atlantic skies and has become one of the most visible members of commercial aviation in its region. This year, the company won two special nominations for low-cost airlines, earning the titles of the best low-cost carrier in Europe and the best in the world on long-haul routes.

7. Finnair

Country: Finland
World Rank: 25th

Finnair climbed two notches in the global ranking to top the Northern European Airlines rankings. The passengers especially highly appreciated the level of language training of the personnel. The company operates major flights on Airbus liners, and regional flights on aircraft of the Canadian Bombardier and Brazilian Embraer.

6. KLM Royal Dutch Airlines

Country: Netherlands
World Rank: 22nd

The Dutch flagship carrier is part of the French conglomerate Air France and is the oldest continuously operating airline in the world. He is now radically modernizing his fleet, which already includes the new Boeing Dreamliner and re-equipped Airbus 330-300 with an improved business class cabin.

5. Air France

Country: France
World Rank: 18th

Although Air France’s position in the ranking has fallen somewhat, it still maintains a high level of service. In the previous couple of years, the company has struggled with money and labor problems, but that hasn’t stopped it from offering passengers impressive new options, including flights in its La Premiere branded showrooms.

4. Austrian Airlines

Country: Austria
World Ranking: 17th

Austrian Airlines, a member of the Lufthansa group, maintains the status of the carrier with the best staff in Europe. The company is based in Vienna and operates the updated long-haul Boeing 767 and 777. Economy class passengers emphasize the qualified and efficient service, as well as the rich choice of food and entertainment options on board.

3. Swiss International Air Lines

Country: Switzerland
World Rank: 14th

The main Swiss carrier emerged in 2002 from the remains of bankrupt Swissair and is now owned by German Lufthansa. It was the first in the world to operate a new generation of aircraft, the Bombardier C. Although some passengers found the economy seats inadequate, almost all praise the company for the friendliness of the staff, the range of alcohol and free Swiss chocolate.

2. Turkish Airlines

Country: Turkey
World Rank: 12th

For six years, Turkish airlines led the Skytrax rating among the European representatives of the industry, and only this year they moved down one line. With flights to 100 countries and 200 cities, the company is striving to turn Istanbul Ataturk Airport into a global hub. Turkey’s political turmoil and security concerns complicate this task, but have little impact on passenger loyalty.

Turkish Airlines is recognized as the number one airline in Southern Europe, the owner of the best business lounge at the airport, as well as the carrier with the best food for business class passengers, both in the air and in the lounges.

1. Lufthansa (Germany)

Country: Germany
World Rank: 7th

The continent’s largest airline has reached the top of the European top 10 in the last couple of years. Passengers love her exceptional service and overall product line. Conditions on long-haul flights deserve high marks, but to consolidate the result, the carrier would be nice to replenish the fleet with Airbus A380 liners and the world’s longest passenger aircraft Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental.

Lufthansa not only entered the world top 10 and recognized as the best airline in Europe, but also became the leader in the quality of food in its first class lounges.

Top 10 Best Airlines in the World in 2019, What to Expect in 2020?

With more airlines using the next generation of wide-body aircraft, from the Boeing787 to the expected 777x next year, and Airbus’s A350 and A330neos, should we expect big changes to this year’s roster?

Thai Airways is a formidable top 10 contender, receiving regular awards this year for Asia’s Best Airline Personnel. It shows itself well in economic products, but the first class depends on the type of aircraft. Obviously for this reason, Thai Airlines rarely breaks into the top 5, but in 2020 they will remain in the top 10.

Lufthansa has been honored as the best airline in Europe and is hard to argue with. On the other hand, there is relatively little competition in Europe for a truly high quality and sustainable product. Considered a strong contender for British Airways, inconsistency has prevented it from being in the top 10 more often. It will be difficult for Lufthansa to stay in the top 10 in 2020 due to strong competition from the Swedish company.

Qantas Airways has consistently ranked in the top 10 and is unlikely to change anything over the next year. The excellent performance of their new 787s and the heavily advertised ultra-long haul routes linking Sydney to London and New York will underpin their consistently good performance.

Hainan Airlines. Few people have heard of this company outside of Asia. China Airlines has long enjoyed a reputation for mediocre international service.Hainan Airlines’ design is dignified, but not groundbreaking, however, thanks to the incredibly friendly and caring staff, the company has taken a position at the top of the Chinese rankings. With China Eastern and China Southern bringing great new seats to their A350s, it will be difficult for Hainan to stay in the top 10 in 2020.

EVA Airways is another Taiwanese company that has earned a top 10 spot. Eva is consistently in the top 10, and there is no reason to believe that this is unfair or will change in the next year.

Emirates is perhaps the biggest surprise on this list. The company is not five-star, and has won awards for best in-flight entertainment for several years in a row, while there are many five-star airlines worthy of this place. Emirates’ service is sometimes mediocre, with a recent Forbes article talking about how deceiving aviation marketing can be. It talked about Emirates’ promotion of its “all-changing” first-class seating and business-class products that were inadequate.Etihad, another major airline from the UAE, fully deserves a top 10 spot, no surprise if it joins it next year instead of Emirates.

Cathay Pacific, as expected, entered the top five again, next year it will hardly be otherwise. An excellent crew, reliable equipment in every class, and the newly delivered A350s mean the Cathay stands up to the competition. Although their 777 has been fitted for more than a decade, the seats in both Business and Economy class retain their high quality, which speaks to the “correctness” of the product Cathay Pacific is receiving.

ANA – All Nippon Airways. The top 10 list would be incomplete without one of the fantastic Japanese carriers. ANA has overtaken Japan Airlines this year, and fierce competition is expected between the two for the top 10 spot.

Singapore Airlines took first place last year, now they have been displaced, it is difficult to argue with this, the prevailing location has become just a matter of discussion. Singapore Airlines is an excellent company, especially loved by its passengers. It is unlikely that in 2020 someone else will take second place, since both the first and second companies on the list are really the best in the world. You can’t argue with that.

Qatar Airways. This year we have a new number one! Few critics would object to the airline’s first seat. An excellent new economic product, the famous Qsuites (Business Class) competing with most of the first class products, combined with an excellent crew, an all-encompassing worldwide network, all this means that next year Qatar Airways will once again compete in an exceptional manner with Singapore Airlines …

Rating of the best airlines in Russia for 2020

What, first of all, does a passenger want from an air carrier? These are comfort, reliability and safety. Also, he will not refuse an acceptable level of service and, of course, he will not be against the punctuality of the company’s employees: hardly any of us will like long flight delays.

Based on these requests from airline customers, we have compiled a rating of the best Russian airlines , which is based on the expert assessment of several independent consulting agencies and the opinion of passengers who have already used the services of carriers.

TOP-10: Best Russian airlines rating for 2020

To make the rating the most truthful and versatile, we used mixed statistics in the article. Firstly, it is a direct survey of customers, and secondly, an assessment of experts. Employees of some consulting agencies, disguised as “secret passengers”, personally checked the level of service: the cost of tickets, the quality of food on board, the general level of service and the time of delays on flights (if any). The total score was summarized by us in the “Overall rating” column of our table.

Which airline is the best to use?

The final choice depends on your preferences. For example, if safety is first of all important to you, then try to choose companies using new airliners. Such, conventionally, can be considered any aircraft with an age of up to 12 years (after this period, they must undergo a mandatory overhaul). Also, do not forget that the smaller the company, the lower its financial turnover, therefore, they spend less money on the maintenance of aircraft. Additionally, before making the final choice, do not be lazy and look at the statistics of accidents and incidents on the airline: these data can be found on many public Internet resources.
