Timed planners: About – Time & ToDo Planner

About – Time & ToDo Planner

Meet Kristin

Hi there! My name’s Kristin and I’m the “teacherpreneur” behind the Time & ToDo Planner. I’ve been an elementary school teacher and instructional coach for the last 15 years. With lots of meetings and tons of to-dos each week, I got to thinking…wouldn’t it be great if there was an easy way to see your entire week’s schedule and everything you wanted to accomplish in one easy view? I thought so too! And with that, I got to work on creating what is now the Time & ToDo Planner.

The Time & ToDo Planner Story

One Sunday night back in 2010, I picked up my notebook and started to draw. The new school year had just started, and I found myself suffering from that feeling of “too much to do and not enough time.” So I started sketching out a planning template that would allow me to organize everything that was in my head into my notebook. With everything on two facing pages, I could see my weekly schedule, priorities, and to-dos at the same time.  I wanted everything together, not spread out between screens, sticky notes, or different pieces of paper.

It was around this time that my journey into design and creation began. I wanted to learn the design skills I needed to bring my planner sketches to life.  So I signed up for a few classes on how to use Adobe Illustrator, then Photoshop, then InDesign and worked away on creating different planning tools after school and on weekends.

It was here that the Time & ToDo Planner really started to come to life.

In May 2015, I launched a Kickstarter campaign to spread the word about the planner and raise the funds needed to begin production. The funding goal was successfully reached (and nearly doubled!), which allowed us to begin production in June 2015. Watch the original Kickstarter video:

8 hourly planners to help you stay productive in 2021

Whether you have big goals for the new year or could simply benefit from a little organization, an hourly planner is one of the best ways to stay on top of your daily tasks. Gentle reminders to send an important e-mail or sneak in a workout can help to maintain the structure and routine of everyday life and turn your resolutions into habits.

For efficient productivity, Melissa Picheny, owner of declutter + design, recommends “(doing) the easiest task first in order to get it done and out of the way; so making quick calls, checking on or paying bills, filling out the calendar with appointments can be first. Categorize by the task that takes the least amount of time.”

If time does manage to slip through your fingers, Amy Tokos, president-elect of the National Association of Productivity & Organizing Professionals, recommends keeping a notebook on hand so you can add to-dos to your planner at a later time. “Because you have more distractions at home, you will think you have time to do everything,” Tokos told TODAY. “Instead of stopping what you’re doing, always have a ‘landing pad.’ Use this notepad on your desk to capture the distractions to handle later. Then you won’t forget and can stay on your work tasks.”

If you’re ready to put your ideas, tasks and goals on paper, read on for some of the best hourly planners to help keep you organized.

Expert-approved hourly planners

1. The Passion Planner

Natalie Ron, professional organizer and founder of Liberate Your Space, loves the Passion Planner for “organizing your day by the hour.”

“It gives you the opportunity to work out what your big picture goals are, like a vision board, only in notebook form,” Ron told TODAY. “It then breaks those life goals into smaller, actionable, monthly, weekly and daily goals or tasks to keep you on track.”

If you’re looking for a space to review your progress, Ron also says that the planner offers pages for monthly reflection.

2. Fringe Studio Non-Dated Daily Planner

Ron is also a fan of Fringe Studio daily planners, as she told TODAY that “they are beautifully designed, (work) for any style and offer a simplified place to get your thoughts and goals down day by day. ” This planner allows you to arrange your schedule, to-dos, reminders and daily goals, as well as jot down any fleeting thoughts on the notes section on the following page.

3. Day-Timer Undated Avalon Simulated Leather Starter Set

Professional organizer Ronni Eisenberg says that choosing a method of planning requires “taking your lifestyle into account.” Before she began using a digital planner, she relied on the Day-Timer set to help keep her days in order. “I loved it. Two pages per day. Lots and lots of options,” Eisenberg told TODAY. While Eisenberg relies mainly on her iPhone for convenience, she says that many people find that “by writing something down, it helps you to remember.”

How should I care for my Day Designer?

When you use a handmade planner for 365 days, it’s safe to assume it will show some wear and tear. Each Day Designer goes through a careful quality check before being packaged for shipment. The following are signs of a hand-made product that occur naturally in the production process: slight bends in the binding, slubs, wrinkles and small indentions. While we’ve designed the Day Designer to be durable (a heavy weight cover) and luxurious (gorgeous brass wire-o binding), a well-used Day Designer is going to look loved at the end of the year.

In order to keep your Day Designer looking fresh and new, we recommend the following.

  • Keep your Day Designer in a cool, dry place — away from liquids.
  • Your Day Designer cover can be wiped clean with a soft cloth.
  • Close your Day Designer from front to back, and never lift it from a single side.
  • If you are carrying your planner open, be sure to support it with two hands, one on each side.
  • If you plan on carrying your Day Designer, consider protecting it before putting it in your tote.

Special note for the gold foil products: As with any gold-foiled product, you will see flaking and discoloration throughout the year. Be extra careful when putting your gold foil cover in contact with other surfaces, or wiping it clean to prevent additional flaking.

How should I care for my A5 Leather Binder?

Our A5 Binder is made with the finest quality leather, and is intuitively designed to ensure that it will last a lifetime! As with all leather products, maintaining the condition of your binder requires a little extra TLC! Here are some necessary tips to keep your A5 Binder looking like the first day it arrived!

  • We recommend gently spot cleaning it weekly with a soft, clean cloth very lightly dampened with water to remove any dust or loose dirt. Be sure not to get it too wet so that any leather conditioner is not removed along with the surface dust.
  • Conditioning is key! It is extremely important to keep the leather conditioned to maintain its luster. Leather that becomes dried out will eventually crack, and is unrepairable. Be sure your A5 is completely dry before applying any conditioner.

Given that leather is a natural material, there may be textural or shading variations within the surface. These are normal characteristics and representative of the leather’s individual beauty. As with all fine leather goods, your Day Designer A5 Binder can last you many years if cared for correctly. To prevent damage, be cautious and avoid contact with any other colored leather goods or fabrics as color may transfer through friction. Avoid exposing your Day Designer A5 to harsh elements such as moisture, bright light and direct heat, and refrain from placing any heavy items on top of your Day Designer in order to prevent creasing.

I live outside the US. How can I purchase?

We ship internationally! You are welcome to order from the Day Designer shop. Please note: while we do the best we can to keep international shipping costs down, international shipping cost is simply high. We recommend combining orders with a few friends to save money on shipping! Please refer to our International Order Policies prior to ordering.

Do your printables also come inside the Day Designer?

Our flagship daily planning page and our mini daily planning page are offered for you to see how the Day Designer layout would work for you! Our other printables are intended to equip you with an added level of organization and planning. They are designed for you to conveniently print on standard 8.5″ x 11″ sheets of paper. Please note: These are not “inserts” for your Day Designer, and we don’t have a way to customize your Day Designer with these pages included.

May I sell Day Designer in my boutique?

Thank you for your interest! We have a small wholesale program and work with a select group of retailers. Please email us at: [email protected] to discuss more!

May I get credit for referring others who make a purchase? Do you have an affiliate program?

Thank you for your referrals! Yes, you can join or affiliate program here. You’ll receive 15% of the product price when someone places an order after clicking your link! This can be a fantastic (and financially-rewarding!) option for your blog, Instagram page, Facebook page, or even just when recommending Day Designer to family and friends in an email.
