How to Attach Rhinestones – Best Glue for Rhinestones on Fabric

Learning how to attach rhinestones to leotards will save you a lot of money and creates a tremendous amount of satisfaction as you see your creations sparkling on stage. If you have ever watched any dance, skating or gymnastics competitions, you would have been blinded by the vast array of beautifully decorated and stoned leotards on display. Some of these costumes can cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars and can take weeks to make.

How to Attach Rhinestones

Here are some tips and basic techniques to get you started on how to attach rhinestones and the best glue to use for rhinestones on fabric.

Types of Rhinestones

Swarovski: These stones are made of crystal and are in a class of their own as they have an unbeatable quality. Naturally, they are also the most expensive. There are a lot of fake Swarovski on the internet so if you are paying top dollar then make sure you purchase from a genuine supplier.

Crystal Rhinestones: You can find many crystal rhinestones of great quality that are a bit cheaper than Swarovski. One of the most common brands is Czech Preciosa.

Glass Rhinestones: These are made of glass and are a medium quality rhinestone.

Acrylic Rhinestones: These are the cheapest but lowest quality. Because they are made from a plastic substance, they can scratch easily over time and once dirty, they have very little sparkle left. Before you use acrylic rhinestones, make sure you do a test to ensure the foil at the back of the stones is not affected by the glue you are using.

TIP: Mix featured Swarovski rhinestones with cheaper brands to reduce overall costs

Rhinestone Shapes

The basic shapes your rhinestones will come in are round, square, rectangle, pear (sometimes called tear shape), heart and oval. There are endless cuts and variations of these and new styles and trends will continue to evolve.

In addition to the different shapes, rhinestones are classified by the shape of their back.

Rhinestone Back Types

  • Flat Back: When attaching rhinestones to clothing you will need those with a flat back. The flat back usually has a silver foil lining to add extra sparkle.
  • Pointed Back: Rhinestones with a pointy back are more suited to jewelry applications.
  • Claws: You can also get rhinestones mounted in a claw setting. These are often larger stones. Only use good quality claw settings as cheaper ones often have the stones fall out and the rough edges can get caught on delicate fabrics. You don’t want to spend hours sewing an outfit and decorating it only to have the stones catch and fall out.

Rhinestone Shapes

Rhinestone Finishes and Effects

These are some of the most common finishes you will see. Most companies follow Swarovski in the naming of their finishes.

  • Clear – As the name implies clear rhinestones do not have any coating on them and are clear and sparkly.
  • AB Finish – This is a coating applied to the rhinestone that gives a rainbow or oil slick like appearance to the stone.
  • Opaque – These rhinestones have a milky appearance and the aqua ones are one of my favorite stones.
  • Metallic– Modern crystals are often available with a metallic effect. Beware of metallic rhinestones made of acrylic as the finish often scratches off.

Rhinestones Sizing

Rhinestones are generally measured in millimeters. Round rhinestones additionally are referred to by SS which stands for “stone size” and range from 5SS (1.8mm) to 48SS (11mm).

The image below shows you the relative sizes of some of these. Most companies offer many in between sizes as well.

Unless you have amazing eyesight and dexterity, I wouldn’t recommend going under the 20ss size.

HOW TO ATTACH RHINESTONES

Rhinestones used for clothing and leotards usually have a flat back which is foiled in silver. They can have glue already applied (hotfix), non-hotfix or have holes for sewing.

There are 3 main ways to attach rhinestones

  1. Glue
  2. Hotfix Applicators
  3. Sewing

Gluing – Best Glue for Rhinestones on Fabric

One of the most popular methods for attaching rhinestones is to glue them on. Imagine having to sew thousands of tiny rhinestones on a costume! If you use the correct glue and technique, they are amazingly strong when glued on. It is also next to impossible to sew rhinestones on thin or mesh fabric so glue is often your best option.

The best glue for rhinestones on fabric is clear, washable and easy to use. These are the 3 most used brands:

1. E6000 Glue

This is the glue that most costumers use.

  • Make sure you purchase the clear variety.
  • When gluing small stones try to get some precision tips.
  • Believe it or not, there are fakes of this glue on the market, so purchase from a reputable dealer.

2. E6000 Fabri-Fuse

This glue created by the same company as the regular E6000 glue but is specially designed for gluing on fabric and is washable after 3 days. Make sure you let your garment dry flat for at least 8 hours before you try the garment on.

Although it looks a little cloudy when it comes out, it will dry clear. The manufacturer says dry cleaning won’t affect the glue.

3. Beacon Gem-Tac

This glue is specially made for gluing gemstones and rhinestones and has a good reputation. It dries clear and is washable.

The manufacturer says that the bond is made stronger by the heat of a dryer but I’ll leave that to you to test! I wouldn’t put any leotards in the dryer as the Lycra fabric is likely to be negatively affected by the heat.

Extra Tips for Gluing Rhinestones

  • Most glues have bad fumes so you will need to use it in a well-ventilated area.
  • Store bottles or tubes upside down so the glue is in the nozzle ready for next use.
  • You can transfer glue into a syringe with a small nozzle to make it easier to handle and keep fumes to a minimum. These are called hobby syringes and come with different sized nozzles. Look for ones made for gluing rhinestones.
  • Alternately, put a small amount of glue on some cardboard and dip in a skewer. Then pick up the stones with the skewer.
  • Dry the glued garment flat so the stones don’t slip before they are dry.
  • Use foam board or strong cardboard inside the garment to hold it flat for stoning and to prevent glue going through to the other side of the garment.
  • For stretch fabrics, don’t have stones touching as it will affect the stretch of the garment around the body. This is especially important for leotards.
  • Practice on a scrap before you start gluing your garment. The glue should just cover the outside edges of the stone. If you just place a small drop underneath, the foil may detach leaving a round metal dot. It takes a bit of practice to get the amount of glue correct.

Hotfix Stones and Applicator

Hotfix rhinestones have a glue already attached to the back and are applied with a special tool or regular iron.

A regular iron can be used to melt and attach the glue on the back of hotfix stones where your fabric is made of natural fibers and won’t melt. You will still need to put a pressing cloth between your stones and garment. This method is not suitable for Lycra fabrics in leotards and other synthetic materials.

Electric hotfix applicators (sometimes called heat guns) come with different sized tips which fit over the stone and heat up the glue underneath. It usually only takes 15-20 seconds to attach each stone. Be careful not to touch the tip on delicate fabrics.

Like the regular glue methods, make sure you put a piece of cardboard or foam between the layers of your garment.

If you are buying online, make sure it has the correct voltage for your country.

How to Attach Rhinestones with Sewing

Some rhinestones have holes for sewing. This is obviously the most time-consuming method of attaching the stones and is not recommended for small stones or delicate fabrics.

Sewn rhinestones can be mixed with sequins and beads for maximum impact. (Read how to sew sequins)

This is a combination of gluing and sewing rhinestones

Tips for Sewing Rhinestones

  • Use a strong beading thread
  • Knot off in between each bead so you don’t have rows coming undone at once.
  • Sit in great light and grab your strong glasses!
  • A craft magnifying light may also help,

Storing your Rhinestones

Lastly, after learning how to attach rhinestones, you will need to store all your rhinestones. Choose clear containers so you can easily see the contents and how many stones you have left.

  • Bead storage boxes
  • Zip-lock bags

Aleene’s Original Glues – How to glue beads to a shirt; DIY Beaded Tee

Beading always looks so awesome on t-shirts and sweaters but who wants to spend all that time beading? Or pay for someone else to do it! Aleene’s Jewel-it glue is probably my favorite DIY trick, I always have a bottle handy. Anyone who knows me knows I’m not exaggerating, I really love this stuff! You can quickly and easily add beads, stones, and even metal backed stones onto most any type of fabric (even fuzzy sweaters). Keep reading to make your own!

What you need:

Supplies you’ll need:

T-shirt or sweater

Beads (2 sizes used here)

Stencil or design

step 1

I put my printed design inside my t-shirt and traced it  with a pencil.

step 2

Use Aleene’s Jewel-it glue and fill in your design with glue.

I worked letter by letter starting on the right because I’m left handed, if you’re right handed start with the left side. This will keep you from accidentally smudging your glue.

step 3

If you are using two sizes of beads put your larger beads first.

Then fill in with your smaller beads.

Really cover all of your glue with your beads.

Let your glue dry before trying to remove extra beads.

The most amazing part about Aleene’s Jewel-it is that it really will hold those beads on. I’ve used it a lot on t-shirts and sweaters as a quick way to add lots of beads and you can even wash it in cold water (NO DRYER) and they really will stay on. I think that’s what I love so much about Jewel-it is how easy it is to use and that it really lasts.

DIY Pearl Studded Sweater – Honestly WTF

Brrrr . . . we’ve been having an intense cold spell here in California, which means sweaters have been in heavy rotation so far. So much so, that I’ve been inspired to gift the one thing I feel everyone needs this holiday: a turtleneck sweater from JCPenney. But of course, it isn’t a gift from me unless some personalization is involved. I love the idea of transforming an otherwise simple sweater into a chic statement piece with just a few pieces of inexpensive jewelry – in this case, a few strands of glass pearl beads. It’s so easy to do and you can even put it in the wash!

You’ll need:

Start but cutting the clasp off the pearl necklace. Remove the pearls and store them in a small bowl.

Place a large dollop of embellishing glue onto a paper plate. There are some great glues on the market that bond jewels, beads, pearls and metal to fabric. They’re super strong and you’ll be able to wash your garment 7-10 days after application. Carefully dip a pearl into the glue and place it at the top of the shoulder. Make sure the two holes are aligned on the sides. Continue adding pearls along the length of the sleeve, separating them by 2-3 inches.

Once the middle row has dried, add another alternating row to the left and right of the middle row.

Continue adding pearls until the entire sleeve is covered. Make sure that each row dries before adding another.

Although the glue is sufficient in keeping the pearls in place, even through washes, an option is to stitch the pearls in place after the glue has dried for 24 hours. Simply thread a needle that is thin enough to fit through the pearls. Double knot the end of the black thread and push the needle through the bottom of the sweater, closest to one side of the pearl. Thread the needle through the pearl . . .

and back down into sweater. Pull the thread through the pearl again and double knot it from the inside.

Continue securing the pearls with thread.

Technique

  1. Prepare the surface you want to apply your rhinestones to. Thoroughly clean and dry the surface to ensure the strongest bond. Rubbing alcohol is good for this, but make sure it won’t discolor the surface before you begin. Extremely smooth materials might need to be sanded or scored to create a rough surface for the glue to adhere to.
  2. Choose your adhesive. E-600, Gemtac, and 2-part epoxy are popular choices for applying crystals to hard surfaces and man-made materials.
  3. Apply your adhesive. Follow the application directions on your adhesive to apply a small amount to a section of your project. You may spread the glue over the surface with a brush or use a syringe to apply small dots of glue where you want to place the stones.
  4. Place your stones. Pick up each stone and place it into the glue. Press down gently to set the stone in place. The Crystal Katana is a great tool for applying crystals. Use the wax end to pick up and place the crystals and the metal end to push them gently into place.
  5. Use stones of different sizes to your advantage. Smaller crystals work well for filling the spaces between larger stones. Using several sizes and types of stones gives your piece more texture and variety.
  6. Clean up adhesive residue. If adhesive is visible on or around your crystals, gently wipe them with a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol to remove excess adhesive and residue.
  7. Allow plenty of time to dry. Refer to your adhesive’s directions for drying times. Some epoxies cure in 5 minutes. Other adhesives can take 24 hours or more to fully dry.

Tips

  • Invest in good tools. Especially when you are working on a large project, you want to make the application process as easy as possible. Tools like the Crystal Katana and adhesive syringes can make applying individual crystals much quicker and easier.
  • Work in small sections. This is especially important on a large project. It prevents your adhesive from smearing or drying before you apply your crystals.
  • Be patient! Using multiple sizes and types of stones takes time, especially for a large project like this one, but the finished project is worth it!

How to Repair Pearl Stud Earrings

Author: The Pearl Market

Know your enemy

As shown in the picture on the right, a typical stud earring consists of three parts – the pearl, a cup and stem, and a butterfly which is pushed onto the stem to keep it secure in the ear.

The pearls are drilled halfway through. The bit of stem that sticks out of the cup goes into the hole and the cup and stem are fixed to the pearl with a small amount of glue.

That’s all that holds them together. Sometimes the cup and stem detach from a pearl but that doesn’t mean the earrings are ruined or need a visit to the local jeweller. It’s usually possible to do a simple and satisfactory home repair.

Prevention is better than cure

It’s not uncommon for stud earrings to come apart. Tugging on the pearls to remove them from the ear weakens the bond between the pearl and the earring cup. Eventually, it gives way.

It’s better when removing earrings to get your fingers behind the cup before pulling. That way the bond isn’t stressed.

Repair tools

You don’t need any. All that’s necessary is something to hold the stem firmly – a clothes peg is good, or even your fingers – and some glue.

Glue – there are lots of adhesives with fancy names like ‘jewellers’ epoxy’ but a tube of superglue will do fine. Use a brand name product containing cyanoacrylate – not one of those packs of 20 for a £1 you get in discount stores. If possible buy gel rather than liquid. It just makes life a bit easier.

Whoops…

If you’ve used a bit too much glue you might find that it overflows the cup and spills out onto the pearl (arrow).

Don’t try to clean it up or wipe it off – you’ll just smear it onto the pearl.

Leave the glue to set for several hours – until it’s crispy, not soft. Use the tip of a razor blade or stanley knife to raise an edge of the glue outside the cup. Take care not to scratch the pearl. With luck, you can now peel off the glue around the cup. A fingernail is ideal for flicking off anything that remains.

Repairing Studs – A Step-by-Step Guide

Doing The Repair

Use a needle or pin to clear out any old adhesive from the cup and drill hole. Clean off old adhesive around the pearl drill hole with a fingernail. Make sure the cup and stem fit snugly onto the pearl before glueing.

Grip the stem with the peg or your fingers and apply a small blob of gel to the tip. If you are using liquid glue let a drop run down the stem and into the cup.

Don’t overdue the glue. If there’s too much sitting in the cup use the corner of a tissue to absorb the surplus.
Push the pearl onto the stem. The gel will be carried down into the cup.

Twist the pearl clockwise and anti-clockwise a couple of times to make sure the glue is evenly spread around the cup. Then apply downward pressure for 30 seconds and leave to set for half an hour. There – you’re done.

And finally…

If you do make a complete dog’s breakfast of the repair, we have some very nice stud earrings at good prices to replace them.

The Ultimate Adhesive Guide for Swarovski Flat Backs and Fabric

Adhesives tested E-6000, Shoe Goo, Gem-Tac, Fabri-Tac and Crafters The Ultimate pick. It’s important to stress that while all the adhesives may give a good bond between crystals and fabric the purpose of this test is to determine which adhesive gives the strongest bond. To determine this the crystals were glued using the 5 different glue types each with their own colour crystals and then left for over 24 hours to dry.

To test the bond strength the crystals on the fabric were then roughly stroked over continuously until crystals came loose. For some materials the bond was very strong resulting in the crystals being quite difficult to remove the fabric was scrunched up and rolled into ball and roughly handled until crystals were dislodged. The other test used to determine the bond strength between the flatbacks, adhesive and fabric was to pick at the crystals to see how difficult it was to remove them. Picking at the crystals is pretty much the same principle as catching them on something which will happen from time to time, so hopefully this gives a fair impression of which adhesive performs the best on each material.

There are numerous forums, websites and blogs that recommend each of these adhesives which is why I choose them as they represent the most popular adhesives used for bonding Swarovski flatbacks to fabric (Shoe Goo is the only one I haven’t seem mentioned anywhere but its made by Eclectic Products who make E6000 so I wanted to see what the difference between the two adhesives were).

The Adhesives

E6000 – It’s a thick clear adhesive that has very strong fumes and a care warning on the packaging. It dries very quickly so put the top back on the tube after removing any of the content. For precision application I recommend using a syringe and again plugging the end with something like blu-tac between uses. When applying to some fabrics it’s necessary to hold the crystal in place for 5-10 seconds while the adhesive takes a purchase and holds in place. If glue splodges around the sides of the crystals its easy to clean with a cocktail or orange stick by just doing a circle around the crystal with the pointed tip is usually enough to pickup any surplus adhesive. (Care should be taken when using this adhesive, open the window so there is a good flow of air through the room and if you use on a daily basis I highly recommend investing in a respiratory mask for eliminating any harmful fumes, which only cost a few pound at B&Q.)

Shoe Goo – Made by the same company as E6000 with the same warning and more it contains Perchloroethylene which is why it has a nice skull and crossbones / Poison Irritant warning at the top of the tube. Would recommend using a mask as mentioned above when working with Shoe Goo and the chemical should not be inhaled. As regards the glue it’s clear like E6000 but not as thick so slightly easier to apply, it also dries quite quickly but not as fast as E6000 but it’s also necessary to hold the crystals in place for a few seconds for the adhesive to get a good bond.

Gem-Tac – It’s white in appearance when it comes out of the tube but dries clear, its non toxic and a lot thinner than e6000. If you find it too thin you can put some into a container and leave to thicken up for a minute or two or alternatively leave the top of the bottle for a few days and it thickens up nicely. When it’s new it may require the use of an orange stick to release the crystal from a jewel setter/ sticky bud tip. If you intend to use the adhesive on a curved surface leave the adhesive for a minute or two before applying the crystals or they may slide while the adhesive is first applied as it’s runny.

Crafters Pick – The Ultimate – Looks the same as Gemtac but slightly thicker in consistency, it also dries clear and is non toxic and may require the use of an orange stick/cocktail stick to release the crystals from a jewel setter tip. It’s easy to use but doesn’t provide half the strength of bond that Gemtac does but maybe it will perform better on plastic, metal or glass (we shall see ; ).

Fabri-Tac – Made by Beacon Adhesives the same company as Gem-Tac this glue is clear in colour, has strong fumes and most importantly is not gem friendly. It’s like working with sticky slime that stretches like melted chewing gum and when you try and remove a small amount for a crystal it’s no easy task. It gives a very quick bond but it’s not as strong as Gemtac on any fabric that I tested and I certainly wouldn’t have the patience to use it for many crystals.

The Results

1. Faux Suede – The strongest is Shoo Goo closely followed by e6000 which both gave a very strong bond, with enough force the Gem-Tac, Fabri-Tac and The Ultimate crystals came loose. None of the crystals that didn’t come loose were easy to pick away though.

2. Wool – The strongest is Gemtac with e6000 also giving a pretty good bond, both Fabri-Tac and The Ultimate glue were easy to rub the crystals of the wool so I wouldn’t recommend either of these.

3. Denim – Fabri-Tac was the first to rub off followed by The Ultimate crystals. All three of the remaining adhesives gave a very strong bond and after trying to pick the crystals off one of the e6000 crystals came loose but the Gemtac and Shoo Goo all stayed on.

4. Silk – Fabri-Tac was the first to come loose followed by The Ultimate and Gemtac neither Shoo Goo or e6000 came loose and both were difficult to pick off with e6000 being slightly stronger.

5. Faux Leather – Again Fabri-Tac was the first to come loose, followed by The Ultimate and then Gemtac once I started to pick at the crystals followed by E6000 and Shoe Goo.

6. Linen – The Fabri-Tac crystals came loose pretty quickly from rubbing followed by Shoe Goo. The Ultimate came loose after using a nail to scratch at the crystals followed by E6000 with Gemtac giving the strongest bond.

7. Velvet – The Ultimate came loose straight away followed by E6000, Fabri-Tac, Shoe Goo then Gemtac and the skin off my fingers from rubbing so hard. (If you intend to test adhesives yourself I suggest using something other than your fingers to dislodge the crystals.)

8. Soft Leather – None of the adhesives were particularly strong on soft leather but the strongest was Gem-Tac, although all of them were easy to pick off.

9. Canvas – Fabri-Tac gave the weakest bond coming free from just rubbing the crystals all the other adhesives gave a pretty strong bond. The Ultimate came loose quite easily with picking followed by Gemtac which didn’t come loose very easily. Both E6000 and Shoe Goo gave a very strong Bond.

10. Suede – Fabri-Tac was the first to come loose followed by The Ultimate and then e6000. Shoe Goo, Gemtac and e6000 all give a very strong bond that takes some effort to even pick them off. (The difference between Suede and Leather is that Suede is the underside of a skin that has been buffed to a smooth surface. I was unable to get a Suede sample but used the underside of a leather sample which is pretty much the same surface.)

11. Leather Belt – All of the adhesives provided a good bond Fabri-Tac, The Ultimate and Gem-Tac were the easiest to pick off. Both E6000 and Shoe Goo performed very well and weren’t so easy to pick off either.

How to glue rhinestones on fabric ᐈ Blog of the House of Beads

Clothes and things decorated with rhinestones have a completely different “sound” than without them. Cut pieces of glass are used both in the creation of handmade products and for revitalizing and giving new life to ready-made things. Working with them is not at all difficult, but on the contrary, it is easy and exciting. The result of such creativity invariably pleases every day and inspires to create new design masterpieces. Today we invite you to get acquainted with several ways that will help simplify and speed up the work of gluing rhinestones.

First of all, let us designate that glue rhinestones are faceted glass crystals with a flat back surface that do not have holes for the needle to pass when sewing on.

Such rhinestones can be divided into 2 main types:

1) Rhinestones without a backing and requiring cold fixing: they are glued only with glue;

2) Thermal rhinestones with a special thermal lining and hot fixing: they are glued with an iron, a soldering iron for rhinestones, and just like the first type – just with glue.

When working with crystals without a thermal substrate, it is more expedient to use special adhesives designed specifically for attaching rhinestones, or gel-like adhesives. Due to the dense consistency of the glue-gel, its penetration into the fabric is slower, therefore, when it dries, the product does not become hard, and the glue “works” separately with each stone.

If you prefer thermo-rhinestones, use the appropriate hot-fixers, for which these crystals were intended. This will extend the time of their fixation on the product, since a special thermal substrate on them is provided for this in order to melt from high temperature, becoming an adhesive substance of the desired consistency, which is most appropriate for the task of fixing the crystal on the fabric.

How to glue different types of rhinestones on fabric at home?

Method number 1: using an iron.

It is especially advisable to use this method for gluing large surfaces with thermo-rhinestones.The sequence of steps:

1) Lay out and gently flatten the base fabric on the ironing board.

2) Draw on the fabric with a pencil or tailor’s chalk the pattern of the pattern, according to which you are going to glue the rhinestones.

3) Lay out the rhinestones in this pattern so that the glue layer is at the bottom.

4) Place clean white paper (cotton fabric can be used) over the rhinestones.

5) Heat the iron and press the soleplate against the work covered with paper or cloth. At the beginning, the iron must be heated at the minimum mode, and then, during the observation process, the heating can be increased. The duration of this holding of the iron is 5-15 seconds.

6) Allow the glue to dry for at least 24 hours without moving the product from the surface on which you glued the stones. Otherwise, when creasing or stretching the fabric, for example, when putting on clothes, they may come off. It is worth giving the same time to dry and decorated plastic products, glass, and so on.

Method # 2: with glue

This method is convenient even for gluing cold-fix crystals on large surfaces, as well as in hard-to-reach areas of clothing. The sequence of steps:

1) Lay out and gently smooth the base fabric on the board.

2) Draw on the fabric with a pencil or tailor’s chalk a pattern of the pattern on which you are going to glue the rhinestones.

3) Then you can choose between two gluing methods:

  • Point out the glue along the line where you are going to attach the rhinestones.Next, using tweezers (but better – a special pencil), spread the pebbles into glue droplets and lightly press down. When using special glue for rhinestones, as well as other gel-like glue, do not worry: they dry slowly, which means that you will have time to calmly do all the work.
  • Dip each crystal in glue, and then attach to the product. In this case, use the same auxiliary tools as in the first method. But experienced needlewomen still believe that the first method allows you to do this work much faster.

4) Allow the adhesive to dry for at least 24 hours.

How to remove glue from rhinestones from clothes

If a pebble suddenly comes off, or you glued it unsuccessfully, or just accidentally stained the fabric with glue, do not despair: there are ways to remove such glue spots.

The method depends on the chemicals in your glue.

Thermoactive glue (applied to a product or rhinestones cold, and then heated) dissolves very poorly.Subsequent heating only melts the glue, causing it to soak even more into the fabric. Therefore, acetone or solvent 646 is used to remove it.

Hot melt glue, inserted in the form of sticks into a thermo gun, also cannot be removed by heating, even multiple times. It can be eliminated with a cleaner containing ethyl acetate or methoxypropanol. For example, Ninelle nail polish remover (not containing acetone) or Flux OFF cleaner, which is used to clean boards.

With spots of acrylic glue (known as “superglue”) “Secunda” or other adhesives based on cyanoacrylate, the pharmacy drug “Dimexide”, nitromethane (usually added to fuel), nail polish remover (not containing acetone) and “Anti- Super glue”.

Any epoxy adhesive (only cold fixing) is removed with a mixture of equal proportions of turpentine and ethyl alcohol or acetone and all solvents containing acetone.

Rules for removing glue stains

To safely clean the fabric, you need to know and follow some rules for removing traces of glue:

  • Acetone (as well as acetone-containing solvents) should be moistened with a clean swab on the inside of the product. And at this time, blot the front side with white blotting paper or napkins, changing them as needed.
  • Spray should be sprayed on the front side, removing stains with a swab or cotton pad.
  • Using turpentine and nitromethane, wipe the stain with a swab a few minutes after application. It is permissible to use these funds both from the seamy side and from the front side. Remove the stain gently without rubbing the glue over clean areas of the fabric. Jelly-like glue residues, which are difficult to remove with a swab, can be easily removed with an eraser after the action of a solvent.

Removal of adhesive without the use of chemicals

Only strong adhesives are used for glueing rhinestones. In this regard, even after using aggressive solvents, there is a possibility that stains will remain, but the fabric will shed or lose its shape.

So first try to remove the rhinestones along with the layer of glue. To increase the chance of success, saturate the fabric well with alcohol from the inside out – this will weaken the adhesion of the adhesive to the material. Often, after such an impregnation, it is enough to pry the rhinestone with something sharp, trying to pick up a layer of glue.

There is another gentle method in case the above does not work. It’s freezing. The freezer compartment of an ordinary refrigerator is suitable for this. The structure of glue for a hot gun, thermosetting and epoxy, is destroyed as a result of freezing. To do this, the product must be wrapped in polyethylene and placed in a freezer and kept for 5-6 hours at a temperature of -25º C. Then take out and peel off the rhinestones. They usually come off along with the glue layer. And if the stain still remains, it is removed with a stiff brush. You can pre-crush it with a wooden hammer to a powder state. If the result is not entirely satisfactory, the freezing procedure is repeated.

Acrylic adhesive is difficult to freeze as its structure breaks down at more than -40º C, which cannot be achieved in domestic refrigerators. Therefore, aerosol freezing is used for it, for example, with the FREEZE 75 spray, which instantly freezes the treated area of the product down to -50º C. They should be processed in stages in order to have time to remove stains on the treated areas.

Attention!

Precautions must be taken to ensure that the processed product does not deteriorate. Since many solvents discolor fabrics, all reactive substances should be tested on inconspicuous areas of the garment.

Having treated clothes with solvents, it is necessary to soak and wash them, thoroughly soaping the treated areas with laundry soap.Washing is done by hand (the water must be warm) followed by a thorough rinsing. Then, when ironing, the treated areas must be ironed, shifting with a clean cloth on both sides: so possible glue residues can be absorbed into the substrate.

How to glue glue crystals on fabric using a soldering iron

The soldering iron for rhinestones, also called the heat applicator, is one of the most popular tools used for gluing thermo rhinestones.

It is convenient for its small size and mobility: during operation, the product can even be held in your hands. It also has a set of attachments that allows you to work with rhinestones of different sizes, and heats up quickly. Needlewomen also love it for its neatness when working: thanks to the compactness of the nozzles, the soldering iron glues the crystal locally, exclusively at the point of contact between the fabric and the stone. Therefore, it is ideal for working in hard-to-reach places of clothing or shoes.

Instruction for using the thermal applicator:

1. Prepare your workplace: a thermo napkin or a wooden base on which you will place the product.

2. Choose an accessory, taking into account the size of the crystals and the characteristics of the material. They are of two types: with a flat work surface and with a concave one. Flat nozzles are universal, as they heat up the thermal substrate well without damaging the fabric around the stone. The second requires caution: it warms up the pebble better, as if hugging it, but creates the risk of burning the matter around the rhinestone. One way or another, first try to glue the crystal in a safe place for training, and then work on the front side of the product.

The sizes of the nozzles are marked on each of them. Screw the desired tip onto the unheated soldering iron.

3. Plug the thermo-applicator into a power outlet, place it on the stand and wait about 15 seconds.

4. Rhinestones can be glued in two ways:

A) The stone is placed on the fabric with the thermal substrate down and the soldering iron is pressed against it to the rhinestone. This option is convenient when you decide to first lay out the drawing with pebbles, and then attach them with a thermal applicator. In this case, both types of attachments are convenient.

B) Rhinestones are laid out with the substrate up on the table, heated with a soldering iron and transferred to the product with the rhinestone. In this case, it is better to use a nozzle with a concave surface that exactly matches the size of the stone.

It is important to keep the soldering iron on the rhinestone for exactly the required time, which is determined by the model of the tool itself, the size of the stone and fabric. The stone will stick to thinner fabrics faster. You should start with 4-7 seconds – this needs to be determined by experience.

5. Allow the adhesive to dry for at least 24 hours.

As you can see, working with a thermal applicator does not present any particular difficulties, as well as other methods for gluing rhinestones. Choose which one you prefer and create your exclusive beautiful and bright things!

How to decorate clothes and shoes with artificial pearls

The outfit of the famous actress Lupita Nyong’o at the Oscars made a splash. The dress, generously strewn with pearls, was so liked by fashionistas that many tend to repeat this decor in everyday life. In fact, pearl dressing is a technique that tailors have used for millennia. Once upon a time, dresses and jewelry inlaid with this gem were considered an indicator of status, because only representatives of the upper class could afford such expensive accessories. Everything changed at the beginning of the 20th century, when specialists learned to cultivate pearls, thereby making them more accessible. But, in any case, natural pearls, grown in natural conditions or by cultivation, are quite expensive and are mainly used in jewelry production.

Lupita Nyong’o at the Oscar ceremony

To decorate modern clothes and shoes, an imitation of jewelry, which is usually called artificial pearls, is most often used. A similar jewelry is made from glass beads coated with mother-of-pearl paint. Quality imitation pearls are strong and durable, so designers willingly work with this material.
You can transform your favorite things yourself with pearls. This is the easiest way to update your clothes and shoes, and even a beginner in handicraft can handle it. For decoration, beads are most often used with small holes on the sides, allowing them to be sewn to the product using an ordinary needle and thread. These pearls are easy to find in stores that specialize in sewing accessories. Another method of fixing the decor, which involves the use of glue, is mainly used to decorate shoes and other items that cannot be stitched.

Using the example of decorating jeans, we will show you how to work with this beautiful material.

So, you need :

  • classic gins,
  • 30-40 drilled pearls,
  • fine needle,
  • thread,
  • scissors,
  • a pen, crayon or marker with a thin rod.

Stages of work.
Take your jeans and place the pearls on them the way you would like to see them on the finished garment.Using a marker, carefully mark the location of the decor, trying to keep the outline almost invisible. Collect the beads and set them aside.

Thread the needle. Make sure the needle is thin enough to go through the holes drilled in the pearl first.

Sew on the beads, referring to the marks you made. To keep the pearls firmly on the fabric, sew a few stitches to ensure the decor is firmly in place.

To secure the seam, first wrap the thread around the base of the bead several times.

Then make a double knot on the wrong side of the jeans.

Repeat the manipulation until all pearls have been sewn on.
Everything! The original jeans are ready!

By the same principle, you can decorate any garment that you think would benefit from such an update. You can create various designs using beads or, for example, sew them in rows. In other words, the final look of the product depends on your imagination and desires. But, in any case, the method of work will be as described above.
Here are some more decorating ideas to inspire your creativity.

A simple denim jacket, decorated with pearl beads, looks feminine and delicate. All that is needed for a quick transformation of the standard model is a few beads sewn on the shoulder area.

Another idea is to decorate the cuff of jeans with pearls. By the way, you can use beads of different colors and sizes to create a more intricate and complex decor.

Black top, densely embroidered with pearls, transforms from an everyday model into a bright item for a festive occasion.

Beads can be used to create original designs. For example, delicate floral décor transforms a boring gray sweatshirt into a trendy and stylish piece.

More complex ornamentation requires diligence and patience, but it is worth the effort. See how the sheer top looks spectacular, adorned with numerous rows of pearl beads.

Another variation on the theme of the decor in the shoulder area. In this version, pearls help freshen up a classic black blouse, which would certainly not look so impressive without such decoration.

Pearl decor looks very original on knitted fabric. With it, you can upgrade any sweater, pullover or cardigan.

The combination of fine imitation pearls and matching sequins helps create a more textured pattern.

Several beads on the collar and cuffs instantly transform a formal office shirt into a model for special occasions.

And this is how the pearl decor in the collar area works on a shirt in a delicate pastel shade.

And a more complex version using additional elements. Gorgeous!

Imitation pearls can also breathe new life into your favorite pair of shoes. Here, the decorating technique involves the use of strong glue to help secure the beads securely. Before starting work, shoes should be washed and dried thoroughly. Then apply a small amount of glue to the pearl and glue it down with your fingers until it snaps into place. After you finish decorating, leave the shoes until the glue is completely dry (this will take at least 24 hours).

Shoes, sandals and boots decorated in this way look very stylish and bright.

Even beaded beach slates are transformed into an original urban model for walking.

And this is how you can transform classic espadrilles, simply by sewing pearls in an even row along the line of the cape.In the case of shoes made from textiles, it is better to use the first technique.

Another design option for simple slippers.

As you can see, decorating with artificial pearls allows you to easily and quickly transform things without spending a lot of time, money and effort on the whole process. Try it yourself, show your creativity and create your own unique design based on mother-of-pearl beads.

The outfit of the famous actress Lupita Nyong’o at the Oscars made a splash. The dress, generously strewn with pearls, was so liked by fashionistas that many tend to repeat this decor in everyday life. In fact, pearl dressing is a technique that tailors have used for millennia. Once upon a time, dresses and jewelry inlaid with this gem were considered an indicator of status, because only representatives of the upper class could afford such expensive accessories.Everything changed at the beginning of the 20th century, when specialists learned to cultivate pearls, thereby making them more accessible. But, in any case, natural pearls, grown in natural conditions or by cultivation, are quite expensive and are mainly used in jewelry production.

To decorate modern clothes and shoes, an imitation of jewelry, which is usually called artificial pearls, is most often used.A similar jewelry is made from glass beads coated with mother-of-pearl paint.

So, you need
:

  • classic gins,
  • 30-40 drilled pearls,
  • fine needle,
  • thread,
  • scissors,
  • pen, crayon or fine-tip marker.

Stages of work.

Take your jeans and place the pearls on them the way you would like to see them on the finished garment. Using a marker, carefully mark the location of the decor, trying to keep the outline almost invisible. Collect the beads and set them aside.

Thread the needle. Make sure the needle is thin enough to go through the holes drilled in the pearl first.

Sew on the beads, referring to the marks you made.To keep the pearls firmly on the fabric, sew a few stitches to ensure the decor is firmly in place.

Black top, densely embroidered with pearls, turns from an everyday model into a bright item for a festive occasion.

Pearl decor looks very original even on knitted fabric.

And this is how you can transform classic espadrilles, simply by sewing pearls in an even row along the line of the cape. In the case of shoes made from textiles, it is better to use the first technique.

Another design option for simple slippers.

As you can see, decorating with artificial pearls allows you to easily and quickly transform things without spending a lot of time, money and effort on the whole process. Try it yourself, show your creativity and create your own unique design based on mother-of-pearl beads.

Bead embroidery on clothes is a great way to relax! Many world-famous designers use beadwork in their models. Such exclusive items are manually embroidered with multi-colored beads, and everyone who will wear such an outfit will shine and delight others! The main thing is to think over and tastefully arrange the embroidery on the clothes. It is not difficult to master the technique – then we give explanations, diagrams and a master class for beginners.

Embroidery on black clothes looks especially attractive. Black clothes embroidered with beads become solemn and are no longer associated with mourning. Take a look at these examples.

Embroidery with large rhinestones

Embroidery with threads with beads

A regular T-shirt embroidered with beads looks original!

Pearls, bugles and rhinestones will make an exclusive outfit from an ordinary office shirt.

Luxurious embroidery. A small embroidery on the sleeve radically changes the whole image.

This is a real skill! It seems not difficult, but very painstaking work.

Basic techniques of beadwork

Securing a single bead

A bead can be simply sewn with a stitch to the fabric, or you can use a smaller bead to make a small column. Instead of the bottom bead, you can insert a sequin. For voluminous sewing, you can make a column of two or more beads.

Beads of different colors and different sizes, sewn one by one close to each other, look very nice. They can be placed inside a metal figure, inside a contour of contrasting beads, or applied in a chaotic scattering, creating bright spots on the embroidery.

Seam “Forward the needle”

Bring the needle to the right side, place a bead on it and pass the needle through the fabric close to the bead.Bring the needle out again to the right side by making a small stitch from the wrong side and reattach the bead.

Seam lowercase

This stitch can be similar in design to both the “Forward to the needle” stitch, and to stitching – you yourself vary the distance between the beads. If you want to stiffen your embroidery or fix the beads on a straight or smooth, winding line, then after finishing the stitch, pass the needle in the opposite direction, then the beads will stand up evenly.

Stalk seam

This sewing method produces a rather stiff embroidery. Cast on 2 beads and needle through the fabric to the wrong side of the second bead. Bring the needle out to the front between the first and second beads, go through the hole of the second bead. Place the third bead and again pass the needle to the wrong side, close to the newly strung bead. Continue until you reach the desired stitch length.

Arched seam

Similar in design to the previous stitch, only 2-4 beads are strung on the needle. With this method of sewing, the beads are located more freely, the embroidery is less rigid.

Attached seam

For sewing, the beads are attached first to a thread, which is then sewn to the fabric with short stitches between the beads. Attachment sewing allows you to quickly make beaded products, it is no coincidence that the North American Indians gave this sewing method the name “Lazy wife”. Place the beaded thread on the fabric. With another thread, sew the bottom of the beads through each bead (see.picture) or after 2-3 beads.

Double-sided stalk-line seam

This stitch is obtained from the two stitches described above: a line stitch and a stem stitch. This sewing method produces stiff embroidery. The figure shows the operating procedure:

Double-sided fastening seam

A bead is strung on the thread that sews the bottom of the beads to the fabric, from the wrong side, and then the needle goes to the front of the embroidery, a stitch is made to sew the beaded bottom to the fabric. The needle goes to the seamy side, where before going to the front part, the bead is again strung onto the thread.

Seam “Monastyrsky”

One bead is strung on each stitch on the front side, a diagonal stitch is made and the thread goes to the wrong side close to the bead. A vertical stitch is made on the wrong side, the thread comes out again to the front side and another diagonal stitch with beads is made. Thus, from the front side, diagonal stitches with beads strung on them are obtained, and from the seamy side, the stitches are vertical.

Overlock seam

The seam is made like an ordinary overcasting, only a bead is inserted into each loop.

How to make beaded embroidery on a knitted T-shirt

Beginning craftswomen will be able to cope with such embroidery.

We need:

  • beads
  • a needle with a fine eye to fit even the smallest beads
  • strong threads to match the T-shirt
  • thin adhesive non-woven fabric

Take the non-woven fabric no more than the embroidery area.

Mark the embroidery borders with chalk

On the wrong side we glue non-woven fabric with an iron

You can draw a pattern or lay it out of beads and take a photo. The simplest version of the pattern from the same motifs.

Beginner tip: work with whichever stitch works best for you. It is most durable to embroider with a line or stem stitch.

Start sewing on the beads gradually.

Sew the first motif in the middle of the sleeve

Repeat motive just below the previous one. Just two identical motifs and a gorgeous bead embroidery is ready!

How to make beaded embroidery on a shirt.

Collect the beads on a string … It would seem that what could be easier? However, it is not. As in any business, there are little tricks here. Not everyone knows which thread to take, how to choose and attach the lock correctly. When I just started collecting jewelry 5 years ago, I tried to find a good master class on this topic, but I failed. I had to learn by trial and error. But now, in my opinion, I can teach you this too, dear friends.

I hope this simple master class will be useful to many.

I do not deliberately dwell on design issues. Knowing the basics of assembly, you can always come up with a design yourself.

So, let’s start.

Materials and tools.

It’s not hard to guess that we need beads, a thread and a clasp. Beads can be anything you like. Threads and locks will be discussed below. Of the tools, only small scissors and a lighter or matches are needed. You will need another piece of fishing line 0.3-0.5 mm thick and 10-20 cm long (I use a jewelry cable, but not every house has it, the fishing line will do). And no needles!

Select threads

The thread must be

  1. Be strong
  2. Do not stretch under load
  3. Do not shag when rubbed
  4. Melt when heated

Only polyester meets these conditions. We reject cotton, silk, nylon (nylon) immediately.

Thread thickness – the thicker the better. The thicker the thread, the better the beads will fit. But don’t overdo it, double
the thread should enter the hole of the bead without effort. If the threads you have are not thick enough, fold them several times.

Select the lock.

Locks for beads are of different types: carabiners, screw, magnetic, toggles.

It is better if the carabiners are already sold with rings (No. 1, 2, 3 in the photo).Their size is different. The larger the beads, the larger the lock should be.

Carbine No. 4 – without a ring, which means that you will also need a ring. Important
: Split rings should never be used. The ring should be double, as for keys, but, of course, small.

Lock # 5 will work too, although it is not a carbine. It is especially good if there is not enough length, and it is convenient to fasten it.

Now everything is ready, let’s start assembling.

Description of operation

Cooking thread. We measure the length of the future beads, add 10-15 cm and multiply by 2. So for beads with a length of 45 cm, the length of the thread will be 110-120 cm. If the thread is not thick enough, we take double or even triple.

We take a piece of fishing line, fold it in half and insert it into a loop in the middle of our thread (at the far end of the knot) and start stringing beads, threading both ends of the fishing line into the hole at once. Like this:

As you string, we shift the beads from the line to the thread.

Now all the beads are strung, we proceed to attaching the lock.

We thread a loop of our thread (the end to which we strung) through the ring of the lock.

Pull the opposite end of the beads into the loop …

And tighten. The ring is in place!

Now the most difficult thing is the design of the second end of the beads.

Remove the lock itself from the ring, cut off the knot and insert the end of the thread into the ring of the lock.

We take the thread by the end, the lock moves to the beads.

Again we take the line and press the middle tightly to the junction of the beads and the lock

Tightly wrap the end of the thread around the junction, one turn is enough

Thread the end of the thread through the loop of the fishing line

and 9000 loops. The thread is threaded through the knot!

If a thing is tired, seems boring, uninteresting, too everyday, then it can be very simply changed with the help of decor – decorate, for example, with beads or beads.

After such alteration, it will be a completely different thing, it is possible that now it will be worn with pleasure. There are a lot of techniques for decorating clothes – with buttons, sequins, rhinestones, embroidery, patterns, today we will talk only about decorating with beads and beads.

Various types of decoration with beads and beads

Now this is very relevant, look into boutiques, pay attention to the prices. If you decorate your thing with beads with your own hands, then it is still very profitable.

This way you can change a blouse, blouse, sweater, dress, or just a part of the product, for example, collar, pocket, cuffs, neckline. This will give a festive look, so that the thing will turn from the most ordinary everyday into a “ceremonial cesspool”. Decor is a great thing!

Beads or beads can be put along the edge of the neckline, collar, in one several rows, the color can be chosen depending on preferences, as well as the desired effect – both almost in tone and more contrasting. Both white and dark beads on a black background will look equally good.In the first case, contrast plays a role, and in the second – only the relief or shine of the decor against the background of the matte fabric.

Decorations can be sewn either strictly symmetrically, at equal distances, or completely randomly, as can be seen in the picture below.

Sew-on decor in the form of beads is good for both non-stretch items and knitwear. In the second option, you need to monitor the quality of sewing, do not tighten the threads too much, otherwise they can easily break when worn.

To prevent this from happening, make more knots after the individual beads.

Beads, seed beads can be used in different colors, shapes, the main thing is that they are in harmony with each other, as well as with the product itself.

A very elegant item, sewn and decorated with your own hands. Despite the massiveness of some of the sewn-on details – rhinestones, it does not look bulky or clumsy. Decorating with stones and beads is a hotly fashionable trend of the season, even leading designers present their collections with this style on the catwalks.

How to sew beads to clothes

Before starting work, think over the decor, think about how you want to see the final result, Lay out the beads with beads on things, decide how they will be located. The thread with which you will be sewing on the beads should be the same color as the material itself, then it will be almost invisible.

You can also sew on beads according to the pattern. One bead at a time, or by stringing a whole thread at once, spreading it out on the fabric, fasten this thread with another one. They say that this is how things go much faster.

Secure the thread frequently while working. If the thread breaks accidentally during wearing or washing, the main part of the beads will remain in place, all your work will not be lost.

In the photo below, there are a few more ideas for decorating individual pieces of clothing with beads and beads, as well as a little sequins and bugles.

Beads on a knitted fabric can be sewn onto a finished product, or you can knit with beads by first stringing the beads onto a thread. You can knit in this way both crochet and knitting.

DIY beaded appliques

Some of the options below (a handbag on the top left, a triangle in front of the neckline on a gray jumper on the top right), where the beads are sewn close to each other, can be called applique on clothes made of beads
. The technique is the same (as described above), only the distance between the individual beads is minimal.

You don’t have to focus on the decor of your clothes. You can also make applique on the fabric.
beaded
, filling in the entire fabric (as in the picture above) or only partially and placing your piece in a frame – there will be a volumetric beaded applique for interior decoration.

Using this decor, you can create various types of patterns, ornaments, decorate with beads and beads not only clothes, but also accessories – bags, clutches, belts, hair bands, soft bracelets, necklaces on a felt or leather base.

By the way, I had a dress in which an impressive size beaded embroidery was done separately on a translucent piece of fabric of the same color as the main material itself, it was simply sewn on top. It was completely imperceptible.

But, do you know what is very convenient? This decor can be ripped off, and then easily transferred to some other clothes.

It is possible to decorate with beads and beads in this way not only monochromatic things, but also with a pattern, pattern, ornament. This is one example of decorating a knitted pullover with single details according to the pattern and its contours. As a result, from an ordinary simple one, a very spectacular thing “on the way out” can turn out.

Another way to decorate clothes is to trim parts with a separately knitted or purchased knitted cord. You can decorate and modify the jacket by sewing a contrasting color cord on the edge of the collar, sides, pockets, braided on a knitting mill or doll. The loop fastener also looks interesting, which can also be made with a string.

This set – a luxurious necklace, an arm bracelet, berry-colored earrings. Such jewelry can be made with your own hands, colors can be chosen taking into account personal preferences, as well as clothes (style, pattern, etc.) with which they are supposed to be worn. They can be worn not only on weekdays for every day, they are appropriate even as holidays.

How to glue cold-set crystals? What glue for rhinestones and how to attach them to fabric is better than

The imagination of fashion designers knows no boundaries, and the assortment of clothing stores makes you dream of a bottomless wardrobe. But, nevertheless, there are situations when it is simply impossible to find that very necessary thing. This problem is especially familiar to athletes and artists, each performance of which requires a new exclusive costume. There are simply no such dresses and swimsuits in ready-to-wear collections, they are always invented and sewn individually. Original things are also needed for young girls who do not allow themselves to come on a date twice in the same outfit, without refreshing the image with at least a small detail. And also graduates, mothers of kindergarteners on the eve of matinees … In short, if you also want to have a unique thing without spending three monthly salaries on it, then the ability to glue rhinestones on fabric will come in handy.

Before buying and fixing pebbles on clothes, think over all the details of the decoration:

  1. Color
Decorative elements can either be in harmony with clothing in color or stand out in contrast against its background, depending on the style, color and structure of the fabric. Rainbow rhinestones look interesting, capable of shimmering in several shades and reflecting the colors that appear nearby. The surface of rhinestones can be glossy-smooth or slightly matte, imitate mother-of-pearl or natural stone. If you bring clothes or a piece of fabric with you, you can pre-attach rhinestones and evaluate their compatibility. Especially if you want to create a pattern of sequins of different colors. Transparent and translucent rhinestones can also be a good option, they have a softer shine, but they must be glued very carefully so that the drops of glue are not visible through the glass.

Gluing rhinestones is the easiest and fastest way to attach them to almost any garment. Its convenience is thought out by fabric manufacturers and almost eliminates the possibility of error:

  1. Select location and pattern. Pre-mark on the surface of the fabric the outline of the pattern or those points where you want to glue the rhinestones. Once secured, they will be very difficult to remove if you accidentally miss. Moreover, an ugly glue mark will almost certainly remain in place of the torn off rhinestone.

Rhinestones are imitation of precious stones, which are used to decorate clothes, shoes, accessories, interior items. Clothes decorated with crystals look especially advantageous in the glitter of spotlights and spotlights. But little by little rhinestones from the world of show business, where they were used at first, moved to everyday clothes.

It is beautiful and fashionable, but, unfortunately, also expensive, so knowing how to properly glue rhinestones on clothes will come in handy for any fashionista. Having learned this simple craft, you can diversify your wardrobe, emphasize the texture and color of the fabric, add shine and zest to your outfit.

There are several ways to decorate clothes with crystals:

  • decoration with self-adhesive pebbles;
  • decoration with thermal rhinestones;
  • gluing with an applicator;
  • gluing with adhesive tape.

Before starting the process itself, first calculate the number of pebbles needed. Draw a pattern on the fabric and, taking into account the density of sewing and the size of the crystals, calculate how many decorations you need. Buy with a margin.

When buying, pay attention to the price, too cheap rhinestones, after gluing, can lose their shiny appearance, and only spoil the clothes, not decorate. Therefore, buy quality jewelry. When gluing crystals, work carefully, because if the stone was glued incorrectly, then it is unlikely that it will be possible to remove traces of glue.

The best way is to apply the glue directly to the fabric itself, not to the pebble. To do this, put the fabric on a special substrate, to which it will not stick during the gluing process, since the glue will surely seep through the material. Apply five to ten drops of glue to the outline of the drawing, and use a sharpened church candle to transfer the stones to the glue.

When the crystal takes its place, press a little and hold until a little glue comes out from under it.Garment details decorated with stones are dried in a flattened form. The drying time is different for each glue.

Some types of crystals are already initially sold on an adhesive base. They are called thermo-rhinestones because of the way they are glued. How to glue such rhinestones – for this you need to take an iron. The glue melts under the influence of temperature and the pebble adheres firmly to the fabric.

To practice, try gluing your first pebble on an unnecessary piece of fabric. Also keep in mind that it is easier to glue the thermo-rhinestones on the garment parts than on the finished product.

Below is a detailed instruction:

  • under the fabric on which the thermo-rhinestones will be glued, fit a backing made of paper or foil, this is done so that the glue does not penetrate further;
  • we set the temperature on the iron as moderate or “two points”, after heating the iron, test it on a cloth and a thermostat to make sure that the temperature is not dangerous for them;
  • thermal rhinestones are arranged according to the pattern, a light piece of cloth or gauze is applied to them, then we press everything with an iron and hold it in one place for a while, about 2-3 minutes, so that the rhinestones warm up and stick;
  • the larger the crystals, the longer you will have to hold the iron; if you are taking on this business for the first time, first determine the required time on some probe;
  • Remove the iron and let the garment cool down.

Not all materials can be ironed on. For some fabrics and materials such as velvet, suede or leather, an iron is contraindicated. In this case, you can use a special applicator. This is a small device similar to a soldering iron, with a set of special nozzles – the size of pebbles, which heats only thermostatic rhinestones in a point.

Before starting work, screw on the required nozzle, focusing on the size of the thermostatic glass, then spreading the crystals along the contours of the pattern, apply the device to each pebble in turn until the glue sets. The holding time of the applicator, as in other cases, depends on the size of the thermo-strap.

When rhinestones need to glue over large areas of fabric, it is best to use tape. First, the stones are transferred with the faceted side to the film, then the film is transferred to the product, and everything is ironed with an iron.

The disadvantage of this method is that it is impossible to control the gluing of each pebble, but if you need to process a large amount, then the method is irreplaceable in terms of speed. After gluing, the film is removed.

As already mentioned, rhinestones are used to decorate not only clothes, but also household items. It is especially popular to decorate glasses for weddings and other celebrations with stones. The method of gluing depends on the type of crystals – there is cold fixation, and there are already familiar thermo-rhinestones. Therefore, when choosing how to glue rhinestones-stones on glass, take into account their type.

Thermo rhinestones are more suitable for fabric. In order to decorate the glass, it is better to take cold fixing stones. They are easy to glue as they have a flat bottom. It is better to take construction glue, on a transparent basis. You can also use “liquid nails”.

The technology here is slightly different from the one we used when gluing the fabric, since the glue is applied directly to the crystal, and then only the pebble is glued to the glass. Drying time depends on the glue.

Rhinestones can be used to decorate any footwear – not only concert shoes, but also casual shoes, flip flops, leather and suede boots, even slippers.

Thermostatic rhinestones are also not suitable for this, so buy ordinary stones, without an adhesive base. But before you go to the store, decide on the design, apply a drawing on the shoes with a wax crayon. Indeed, in addition to crystals, you can use glitters and other types of decor to decorate shoes.

In order for the crystals to adhere well to the shoes, buy a special glue. If the shoes are leather, then before you start gluing rhinestones to the skin, you first need to degrease it with alcohol or soapy water.Otherwise, the glue may simply slip off the right place or the pebble will stick very weakly and bounce off during use.

After the leather has been degreased and the pattern has been applied, drop a drop of glue onto the crystal and press it onto the shoe. Hold it for a while. Shoes with rhinestones are worn carefully and are not machine washed.

As you can see, there is nothing difficult in decorating clothes, shoes or accessories with rhinestones. The main desire, creative imagination and patience, and your things will acquire their individual face!

There are several ways to do this.Firstly, you can use all kinds of pencils and crayons designed specifically for these purposes and sold in specialized stores. The image applied with their help shows through well on the canvas and is easily removed. The use of these pencils and crayons is effective in cases where you yourself came up with a drawing and want to apply it directly to the fabric for further work. No matter how simple and convenient this method is to use, you first need to draw the desired pattern on a sheet of paper and think over its various details, such as size, location of the pattern on the finished product, colors, etc. This will make it possible to apply a pattern to the fabric the first time, and also to avoid many minor troubles directly in the process of gluing rhinestones.

– If you are glueing thermostas for the first time, then it is advisable to try the technology on a piece of fabric.

o If you sew a product yourself, keep in mind that it is easier to stick the thermo-rhinestones on the parts of the product than on the finished product later.

– Before gluing the thermostats, place a protective pad under the fabric (paper, foil, other fabric) – it will protect other surfaces from possible penetration of melted hot melt glue through the fabric.

– You need to glue the thermostas with a moderately hot iron (iron regulator “silk / wool” or “two dots”). Before gluing, make sure that this temperature of the iron is not harmful to your fabric. If you use an iron with a steaming function, make sure that the pasted rhinestones are not directly under the steam outlet holes: in these areas the temperature for application is insufficient and the rhinestones will not stick well!

– Position the thermostats as desired.Cover them with a cloth, it may be damp. Pressing lightly on the iron, hold the iron still for 2-3 minutes (the larger the rhinestones, the longer it will take to warm up and melt the layer of hot glue located at the bottom of the rhinestones). If you press very hard on the iron, the hot melt glue can come out along the edges of the rhinestones, so if you are gluing the thermo rhinestones for the first time, practice and find out the optimal pressure.

– After gluing the thermostats, let the product cool down unfolded for 0.5 hour.Do not touch any rhinestones, fabric or product!

– Keep in mind that on jerseys where the jersey is constantly stretched and on pile fabrics, thermo rhinestones may not adhere well to smooth fabrics.

Other application methods:

If it is impossible to glue thermostastes on your product with an iron, then you can try to glue them with textile glue, and on rigid surfaces – with any universal glue or special soldering irons for thermostastes, which you can find on the pages of our store.

If you don’t have a soldering iron for rhinestones at hand, and the iron is not suitable for your type of work, that is, this method: light a candle, take 1 rhinestone with thin tweezers, gently heat it with a thermo-side high above the flame so that the polyethylene does not flow and quickly stick on the right place, pressing the rhinestone with the back of the tweezers tightly to the fabric, repeating these several operations, you get a finished drawing. The method is good for those fabrics that cannot stand the iron, high temperature.

Thermo rhinestones are used not only on fabric products. They can be used to decorate and update shoes as well. To do this, apply a drawing with a gel pen, then wipe the point of the gel pen with a cotton swab dipped in acetone or alcohol (degrease the surface), then glue thermostrazine with a soldering iron (or in another way). and so glue each rhinestone. You should not be afraid of heat treatment, because rhinestones gluing temperature 180 degrees. shoes are usually made of leather that is rough enough to withstand this heat.

Thermostatic rhinestones can be laid out on the scotch tape with a pattern according to the picture under the scotch tape, with hot glue up. They will stick to the tape and will not move when you put them under the right place on fabrics or clothes. Cover the finished drawing (glue up, face on the glue), iron it on top with an iron (on the wrong side of the fabric, clothing. If the fabric is synthetic, silk, you can iron it through a thin cloth. When the rhinestones are glued and cool, just peel off the tape.

– We take the paper on which the drawing is depicted and outline it with chalk. We apply the chalked drawing to the product (chalk down) and outline the drawing with a pencil or pen. Stroke should be done carefully, trying to trace only once. Then we remove the leaf with the drawing, the chalk-translated drawing remains on the product. Excess chalk can be gently removed with an eraser or a slightly damp cloth.

– We spread the picture from rhinestones.

Advice: it is better to try for the first time on crystals that are not very small and with the same diameter.

– We heat a household low-power soldering iron 40 W (if there is no special one for rhinestones) and carefully begin to glue the rhinestones. And you need to glue each rhinestone separately (no need to try to cover part of the rhinestone at once). Hold the soldering iron for about 5-10 seconds on each rhinestone.

Advice: under no circumstances should the soldering iron touch the fabric, otherwise the fabric may burn through. It is more convenient to glue with a thin part (edge) of the soldering iron.

– After all the rhinestones are glued, the result must be fixed. We take the iron, heat it to an average temperature (you don’t need to set it to the maximum) and put the iron on the drawing through a thin cloth, hold it for 20 seconds.Check if all the rhinestones are stuck.

Outline a drawing on the item in a way convenient for you. Lay out one strazel. Preheat the device to medium temperature and apply it to the tip to the top of the strass.

Fix the iron on a special stand for ironing sleeves upside down. At the bottom of the iron, glue up, spread the rhinestones with tweezers. As the rhinestone heats up, the glue will begin to melt, and when it starts to boil a little, pry the rhinestone with a needle and place it on the fabric in the right place, pressing with a thimble.

The iron can be fixed either on the sleeve holder or with books.

This method is very similar to the bottom iron method, except that you can use the can lids instead. You will need 2-3 caps. Spread rhinestones on them, glue up and place on the stove. When the rhinestones are hot, remove the first cover and you can put the next one. Pry the heated rhinestones by the glue with a needle and place them on the fabric, pressing them with a thimble.

For the last two methods, you need a little dexterity, because the rhinestones cool quickly enough, but if you fill your hand, the gluing speed becomes quite high.

– Turn garment inside out before washing.

– The product can be washed in a washing machine using a gentle washing mode and at temperatures up to 60 ° C (when washing in a washing machine, a special bag for washing “delicate clothes” can also be used).

– Iron the garment with a moderately hot iron (silk / wool) through the fabric. Remember that you can melt the adhesive layer during ironing, so avoid prolonged contact directly in the places where the thermostats are applied.

– Dry clean allowed.

– Chlorine bleaching is prohibited.

Attention! For thermostats with mother-of-pearl coating (imitating pearls) – hand wash only at temperatures up to 40 ° C.

Rhinestones are shiny stones that have conquered everyone, from needlewomen to designers. They decorate various accessories, clothes, decorative interior items. A secure connection is provided by a special glue for rhinestones. Sometimes it is already applied to the back of the bead, and sometimes you need to look for it in the store. How to choose the right glue and use it for its intended purpose?

Adhesive selection

Special glue can be purchased in the department or hardware store or with handicraft supplies. There are adhesives for attaching rhinestones to fabric and soft surfaces. They are sold in handy tubes with a narrow nozzle for spot application. The substance often has a whitish tint, but this is not scary: when dry, the glue becomes transparent.

A good example of such a product is the German squad Schmuckstein Kleber
.The material is similar in color to milk diluted in water. But this does not mean that the fabric will be dyed. After gluing, no traces of the substance remain. Rhinestones and sequins are equally well attached to it. Similar compositions for working with fabric and rhinestones – Danscouture
, Guttermann
Textillekleber
HT2
.

If rhinestones are attached to a hard surface, you can try planting them on a two-part epoxy adhesive available from hardware stores. It is better not to apply such glue to the fabric: it will most likely leave ugly stains on clothes.

Stationery glue does not have a sufficient degree of adhesion to adhere the decorative crystal to clothing, so it is better to refuse to use it. What exactly can’t be used is adhesives like Super Moment. These products contain caustic substances that will corrode fabric and beads.

Working with glue

Tweezers are required for working with small parts. This will make it more convenient to create drawings from small elements. A fabric backing is also required so that it does not stick to the surface on which it lies. The product to be decorated must be clean. The reverse side of the crystals is degreased before work, for example, by rubbing with cotton wool dipped in alcohol.

How to glue rhinestones
:

  1. A piece of unnecessary material is placed under the fabric, which, if necessary, will absorb the excess glue into itself. It is recommended to use foil or wax paper.
  2. The product stretches on a hard surface.
  3. Glue is applied pointwise to the places where the rhinestones will be located. The drawing can be marked with a marker or transferred using tracing paper. It is advisable to make droplets exactly the size of the crystals. Too small drops are also not suitable for large elements: the substance will not be enough for reliable fastening.
  4. Since the glue dries quickly, the beads should be fixed immediately after application.
  5. The rhinestone is carefully placed on a drop of glue and pressed with tweezers. You can replace it with a toothpick or other thin object. And sticking jewelry with your fingers is not recommended: this will cover most of the fabric, and it is easy to make a mistake with the placement of the element. Also, the finger will get dirty in the glue. If the work is done for the first time, it is better to practice on an unnecessary piece of cloth.
  6. The adhesive should now dry. It is not advisable to touch the product for at least two to three hours.
  7. Remove excess glue with a piece of paper before it dries.

There is another way to glue rhinestones: to apply a bonding compound to the back of the crystal. But this method requires more skill, and errors are more difficult to correct. For beginners, the first method is recommended.

Advice! You do not need to use fabric softener to wash the garment before decorating. It is absorbed into the fibers of the fabric and impairs the adhesion of the adhesive.

Another interesting way to place a picture made of glue rhinestones when it contains a large number of small elements:

  1. A pattern of crystals, sequins, beads, etc. is laid out on a transparent adhesive film or tape of scotch tape.and their front side should be at the bottom.
  2. The correct amount of adhesive is now carefully applied to each element.
  3. All that remains is to turn the film over and attach it to the product.
  4. Wait until the glue dries, and then remove the sticky film. All elements will remain on the fabric.

Installing self-adhesive rhinestones

Self-adhesive rhinestones have been developed to facilitate the creative process. They already have a sticky layer that only needs to be melted.

To glue the thermo-rhinestones, they must be preheated. This is done with an iron. Instruction:

  1. The fabric is prepared in the same way as for decorating with ordinary rhinestones.
  2. Self-adhesive crystals are placed exactly according to the pattern.
  3. Now they need to be covered with a protective layer. A piece of cloth will do.
  4. The iron is heating with the Wool or Delicates program.
  5. Rhinestones are ironed through a protective fabric. Each element needs 2-3 minutes to melt the glue. Do not overexpose the iron and press it down with force. The pressure will not affect the strength of the result in any way, and fragile beads may deform.
  6. After a while after ironing, you can remove the protective layer. The drawing is ready. It is better to leave the product unfolded until it cools completely.

Something about rhinestones

Decorative crystals are made from materials such as glass, plastic, ceramics, crystal and acrylic. There are many varieties of glitter beads:

  1. Transparent and colored.
  2. With a muted sheen (satin effect) or glossy.
  3. Flat or embossed bottom.
  4. Some types of rhinestones are not intended for gluing, but for sewing on. They have special holes for threads.

Tip! The nature of the shine, the material of the base and the body of the rhinestones are important indicators. The more important the event for which the decor is being prepared, the more expensive rhinestones should be.The most pretentious option is, of course, Swarovski crystals.

With the help of rhinestones, unique and bright things, festive outfits and sparkling accessories are created. You just need to practice a little, get good materials and let your fantasy fly. An assortment of multi-colored crystals will help turn an ordinary piece into a unique piece.

A scattering of sparkling stones – Swarovski crystals – on clothes can give an image a unique style and “glamor”. Shimmering splashes can be used to decorate an evening dress, costume for a dance or stage performance – the light will pass through every facet of the stones, creating shining highlights…

Choosing rhinestones:

Other objects are also decorated with rhinestones: shoes, mobile phones and even cars. The design of any item can be made unique with Swarovski crystals. Of course, this is true only for those rhinestones that bear their proud name “Swarovski” not with the filing of poor Chinese workers, but due to the fact that they are made at an Austrian factory and have the appropriate quality. It must be confirmed as having special
, branded packaging and protection
, and the quality of “lenses”, determined even by the naked eye. No chipping, even cut, color purity and bright shine without hazy areas
– these are the main signs by which you can find the real ones.

In addition, Swarovski rhinestones differ in the method of attachment: hot-melt, sew-on and cold-fixing rhinestones, which are mainly glued with epoxy two-component glue. Rhinestones cold fix
is more commonly used for hard surfaces, decorating mobile phones or creating whole paintings from multi-colored crystals. If you decide to opt for them, should look for stones with an even base, without glue applied to it
. It is not worth saving by purchasing “Swarovski crystals” cheaper – fakes will fade and fall off very quickly, spoiling the appearance of things with glue residues
.

Required tools
:

So, real, high-quality Swarovski rhinestones of the desired color and size have been bought, now you can glue them on clothes, shoes or other item that you want to decorate
.But for this you need some tools at hand.

One of the most important points when working with is glue. Not only does it have to be of high quality
, its must be applied in a certain amount
. Otherwise, if there is too much glue on one crystal, the pattern will look sloppy, and if there is not enough, the rhinestone simply risks not withstanding the first wash or active use, if it is, for example, a mobile phone. The best option is to first work with the piece of fabric you are going to decorate and empirically determine the ideal amount of glue.

Regarding the necessary tools – rhinestones can be picked up with fine tweezers
, but it is more convenient to do it with large stones. For little ones, they usually use soaked cotton swabs or a church candle, to which the crystal adheres remarkably. Glue is applied with a toothpick, it is also convenient for it to remove glue smudges and align rhinestones on the fabric. There are also special, professional tools for working with Swarovski crystals.

Method of work
:

Before placing rhinestones directly on the selected surface, it is worthwhile to carefully think over the future drawing
and apply it with a pencil or crayon
.It will also be useful to degrease the surface in advance
, especially for plastic, wood and leather products, then the drawing will last much longer. For this, both a special degreaser and ordinary vodka are suitable.

Next, you need to decide on the method of work: the first option is when small drops of glue are left on the fabric along the contour of the pattern and then the crystals are pressed there
, the second – glue is applied with a toothpick to the rhinestones themselves, which are then laid out in the desired order
.You can apply glue to the stone directly from the tube, and remove the excess by swiping the crystal over a sheet of paper. The choice of this or that method depends, for the most part, on the desire and experience of the master himself. If you choose the first option, you will need to purchase a special mat in a handicraft store that does not adhere to glue. If you apply drops without placing a mat, the fabric will stick to the table, and this can ruin the whole work.

In addition, rhinestones can be glued using the applique method: first draw a drawing on paper, put adhesive tape on it with the sticky side up, fixing it well, and lay out the drawing with pebbles, “bottom” up.Then on each rhinestone you need to apply a drop of glue, turn the tape over and press it to the fabric.

It is necessary to work with cold fixation crystals very carefully, trying not to overdo it with glue and not to stain the fabric, since it is almost impossible to get rid of glue spots. But the reward for long and painstaking work will be a truly transformed thing, moreover, made by your own hands.

Rhinestones do not just decorate clothes – a scattering of shiny stones gives things a completely new look, new life.Today, any fashionista can decorate her clothes, for this you only need an iron and a little time.

The easiest way to glue hot fixation rhinestones (thermo rhinestones) at home. An adhesive composition has already been applied to their bottom – under the influence of high temperatures, the adhesive mixture melts and penetrates into the fabric. When it cools, the glue hardens again and firmly attaches the rhinestone to the clothes. We will tell you how to properly glue rhinestones on clothes with an iron.

How to choose a fabric on which we will glue rhinestones with an iron?

Thermal rhinestones are best attached to medium-weight fabrics – cotton, linen, woolen. The glue easily penetrates the fibers and binds them to the back of the jewelry.

Organza and other delicate fabrics are poorly suited for decoration – the glue is not absorbed in the fibers, and there is a risk that the decoration will fall off very quickly.

The situation is similar with super-dense fabrics – leather or dense polyamide. The adhesive remains on the surface and cannot securely fix the thermostat.

Glue crystals on fabric

Stage one – preparatory.

The procedure for using thermostats has its own characteristics. Before applying a picture of rhinestones, it is recommended to wash the selected item thoroughly. The detergent will degrease the fabric and the glue will bond better.

It is also advisable to remove dust and lint from the selected area on the clothes; this can be done with an ordinary roller.

Stage two – drawing preparation.

We spread the required pattern on the clothes with crystals. An important point – if the fabric is thin, it is better to put a sheet of paper between the layers of clothing (or between the fabric and the ironing board) in advance.Otherwise the adhesive

may soak too deeply and glue the garment. You should add paper BEFORE you start laying out the rhinestones.

Required:

  • thermal rhinestones,
  • product (fabric),
  • tweezers, wooden stick, if necessary, to move the rhinestone.

If you have never worked for rhinestones, then before starting work, you should make sure that you are exactly in front of the rhinestones.Even if nothing is written on the stone packaging, it is very easy to determine what you are dealing with. Thermostats have a hot-melt backing (usually black or gray). Non-thermal glue rhinestones – rhinestones of cold fixing – without a backing, they do not need it, because they are attached to the product with glue.

Instructions for using a soldering iron for rhinestones:

1. Preparing the workplace. You can certainly use it at home on the couch, on the train or on the plane – anywhere, but don’t forget that simple precautions + ease of use, which, incidentally, will ensure speed, are very important things. Therefore, immediately decide how the product will lie / hang, where the rhinestones and a soldering iron will be located. As noted earlier: you can put any thermo napkin or wooden base, and place the fabric on it.

2. We select the attachment taking into account the size of the stone and the characteristics of the fabric. Dimensions are indicated on each accessory. We screw it onto the soldering iron (IN COLD CONDITION).

There are two types of attachments: with a flat bottom, like an iron, and with a concave bottom. The first nozzle is universal. It will warm up the thermal backing well and will definitely not spoil the fabric around the rhinestones. The second nozzle warms up the rhinestone better, because “envelops” the stone. You need to be more careful with her. In any case, it is better to first try to glue the rhinestone on a test piece of fabric, and then proceed to the front parts of the product.

3. Plug into the socket. Soldering irons heat up quickly enough, on average – 15-30 seconds. If the kit includes a special stand, place the applicator on it.

4. At the stage of gluing rhinestones using a soldering iron, we distinguish two methods.

Method No. 1. We put the rhinestone on the fabric with the front side up – with the thermal backing down, respectively, and apply the soldering iron to the rhinestone. This option is convenient if it is more convenient for you to lay out the drawing with rhinestones in advance, and then attach them with a soldering iron. There are convenient attachments with any bottom (convex or concave).

Method No. 2. Lay out the rhinestones face up on a sheet of paper, glass backing, etc.Let’s prepare a product to which we will glue the rhinestones, and (attach the nozzle, plug it in and heat it). We bring the soldering iron to the rhinestone, wait literally 2-5 seconds: the glue on the thermal backing should heat up and attach to the soldering iron nozzle. We transfer this stone to the fabric. In this case, the soldering iron functions as a pizza net or a pencil for rhinestones – it helps not only to glue, but also to transfer the rhinestone. In the above method, it is best to choose a nozzle with a concave bottom exactly the size of the stone.

The question of the holding time of the soldering iron on the rhinestone is essential. It depends on the model of the soldering iron itself, rhinestones, and also the fabric. The thinner the fabric, the faster the rhinestone sticks. Start roughly at 5-6 seconds. You have to try and you will surely adapt.

5. Safety. Despite the fact that a soldering iron is not an iron, it heats up quickly and you can get burned. Be careful! Take care of your fingers. If you need any additional tools to adjust the position of the rhinestone on the fabric, use tweezers or wooden sticks (toothpicks, orange sticks).

It is a pleasure to work with rhinestones! Simple, convenient and neat!

Good luck! Your Colorize.ru.
