We’re most enamoured by the pink items in this mermaid-themed collection, starting with the Seashell Mug ($28.90) which has a pearlescent sheen coupled with iridescent 3D shell details along its bottom half. The Siren Traveler Mug ($34.90) is great for takeaways, while the flat Under the Sea Water Bottle ($26.90) with seashell prints and a pearl-shaped cap is good for slipping into folder-style carriers or slim handbags.

Too cute to pass up is the Siren Bearista Plush ($38.90) featuring the coffee house’s bear mascot dressed up as the two-tailed mermaid, with a Mini ($20. 90) version that can be used as a bag charm. Also pictured here is the Siren Tumbler ($24.90) with a convenient flip-up lid for easy sipping.

Have a tea party at home with the online-exclusive Pearl Mug and Saucer Set ($44.90), and arrange some dainty tidbits onto the shimmery Seashell Plate ($21.90) to go with. When dining out, bring along the Bamboo Straw Set ($19.90) which consists of 2 straws in different thicknesses, a straw cleaner, and a pouch full of seashell motifs.

Those who aren’t fans of pink can look forward to drinkware in cooler shades of mint and dark blue, which bring to mind the vast ocean and its multifaceted hues.

Reusable cups, meatless options and ethically-sourced coffee: How you can help save the planet with Starbucks , Life News & Top Stories

On September 28, when you head into your favourite Starbucks store to get your daily coffee, remember to save the reusable cup that it comes in.

And when you bring it or any other tumbler back on your next Starbucks visit, you’ll get 50 cents off any drink purchase.

To commemorate the first-ever Reusable Cup Day in Singapore and encourage customers to join the sustainability journey, Starbucks will gift a limited edition 50th anniversary reusable cup for every beverage purchased – whether at the stores, via the Starbucks Mobile Order & Pay app, or at any of the available delivery channels.

This is no mere marketing gimmick. Instead, it is one of the many strategies that the company has to ensure it gives more than it takes  – to cut carbon emissions in half, conserving or replenishing half of the water taken for coffee production and operations, and reducing half of its waste by 2030.

While sustainability is a hot topic among many multinational companies, the pursuit of sustainability has long been built into Starbucks company ethos.

Patrick Kwok, general manager of Starbucks Singapore, said, “Sustainability as been at the core of our business since the beginning. In line with Starbucks global multi-decade aspiration to become resource positive, we are constantly investing in better ways to operate and grow our sustainability initiatives so that we can do much more in caring for the planet that we have.”

It may not feel like much, but your Starbucks reusable cup will go a long way towards contributing to these sustainability measures. Here are five other ways that Starbucks  is advancing its commitment towards becoming a resource-positive company – and how you, too, as a consumer, can dine more sustainably.

Since 2020, Starbucks has expanded its menu to offer customers a variety of plant-based food and beverage options that are kinder to the planet. PHOTO: STARBUCKS SINGAPORE

1. Starbucks expands plant-based and meatless menu options for customers

A study found that demand for plant-based meat alternatives is expected to increase by 25 per cent across the entire Asia Pacific region over the next five years as consumer priorities continue to shift towards health and sustainability.

To ensure that it stays aligned with changing consumer preferences while reducing its carbon reduction goal, Starbucks has been offering a variety of meatless/meat alternatives menu options, as well as plant-based dairy options in beverages since July 2020. With options like the Curry Meatless Chicken Pie and Truffle Meatless Beef & Mushroom Puff,  you’ll be able to indulge in Starbucks’ menu favourites that are kinder to the planet – without compromising on taste or flavour.

No straw, no problem. As part of its 2030 environmental goal to reduce waste by 50 per cent, all Starbucks stores have shifted towards biodegradable and recyclable materials, such as the lightweight strawless lid. PHOTO: STARBUCKS SINGAPORE

2. Starbucks champions the shift from single-use plastics to reusable and recyclable options

Sometimes it’s the seemingly innocuous changes that make the most impact. At Starbucks stores, straws, napkins, takeaway cutlery and to-go plastic cups are all made using biodegradable and recyclable materials, while carrier bags are made from 95 per cent post-consumer fibre.

Since 2018, Starbucks has also done away with plastic lids with straws, instead utilising lightweight, recyclable strawless lids which reduces an estimated 2.72 tonnes in paper and plastic materials used every year.

Flex your DIY skills with the #UpcyclingWithStarbucks tutorial series, which teaches customers fun yet easy ways to upcycle and give their Starbucks items a new lease on life. PHOTO: STARBUCKS SINGAPORE

3. Starbucks inspires communities to do more for the planet

As the adage “it takes a village” goes, Starbucks believes that much more can be achieved when it rallies its customers to join the company on its journey towards sustainable living. In Singapore, for example, the plastic Starbucks Gift Cards are progressively being phased out in favour of a version made with 100 per cent recyclable paper, and the purchase of electronic gift cards is encouraged. Stylish merchandise such as tumblers and mugs in limited edition designs and to-go lunch boxes also promote the use of recyclables, while a 50 cents discount is given to customers who bring their own tumblers when purchasing their drink, a tradition that has continued since 1996.

For customers who are interested in getting more hands-on involvement, the #UpcyclingWithStarbucks tutorial series on its social media channels and interactive Zoom workshops offer useful tips on how customers can give their Starbucks items a new lease of life, such as making a wallet or a stylish coiled coaster from used Starbucks paper bags. Got a green thumb? Simply ask your friendly Starbucks baristas who will be happy to offer you used coffee grounds for your gardening needs.

A more sustainable future of coffee begins with ethical sourcing. You can enjoy your cup of Joe with ease of mind, knowing that Starbucks is committed to creating healthy coffee communities through collaborative farmer programs, support centres and loans, and other environmentally-friendly practices. PHOTO: STARBUCKS SINGAPORE

4. Starbucks is committing to 100 per cent ethically-sourced coffee in partnership with Conservation International

Recognising that its sustainability efforts have to be implemented along its entire supply chain, the company has been working with non-profit environmental Conversation International to commit towards having 100 per cent of its coffee ethically sourced, in accordance with the Coffee and Farmer Equity Practices, one of the coffee industry’s first set of sustainability standards, to achieve its milestone.  In total, Starbucks has invested more than $150 million to increase the prosperity and resilience of farmers and their communities around the world through collaborative programs, new agricultural approaches, and sharing of technical coffee knowledge, in order to create a long-term supply of high-quality coffee and healthy coffee farming communities.

This means you can enjoy your cup of Joe with ease of mind, knowing that farmers are being paid fair wages, coffee beans are farmed according to environmentally-friendly practices, and education and access to medical care are provided to children living on the farms and their overall communities.

Starbucks partners have the opportunity to experience the company’s ethical sourcing journey firsthand through trips to coffee farms around the world – thus allowing them to embrace and adopt a more sustainable sustainable lifestyle. PHOTO: STARBUCKS SINGAPORE

5. Starbucks empowers employees (aka partners) to be sustainability champions

People, in addition to coffee, is at the core of the Starbucks mission.

That is why Starbucks employees – also known as partners – are empowered to be sustainability champions, and have to be firm advocates of the company’s ethos. As such, the concept of sustainability is seeded in every aspect of its operations. Training materials, for example, educate employees on the history, geography and socio-political challenges of the coffee bean so as to reiterate the importance of sustainable practices.

In fact, so committed is Starbucks in its mission to connect its partners with the planet, that before the Covid-19 pandemic, it used to bring its partners on overseas trips to areas such as Sumatra, Rwanda, Costa Rica and Thailand to experience first-hand the ethical sourcing journey within coffee farms. With a greater appreciation of the bean-to-cup story, Starbucks partners recognise how they are part of a bigger purpose. They actively apply and champion the company’s sustainability initiatives at their daily work, and even encourage customers to do so as well.

Patrick Kwok, General Manager of Starbucks Singapore said, “During this Reusable Cup Day on 28 September, we invite our customers to join us as we take simple, actionable steps to reduce our impact on the planet by choosing reusables and reducing single-use cup waste. Our aspiration to become resource positive is grounded in our mission to inspire and nurture the human spirit, one person, cup and neighbourhood at a time.”

Join Starbucks on its sustainability journey on Reusable Cup Day on September 28, 2021. For more information on Reusable Cup Day, visit starbucks.com.sg. To find out more about other sustainability initiatives by Starbucks, visit starbucks.com.sg/about-us/social-impact/going-green-with-starbucks.

Starbucks Singapore Is Releasing Hedgehog Mugs, Cactus Cups & More Desert-Themed Drinkware To Beat The Heat

Starbucks Happy Hedgehog Collection

Last week, we shared how Starbucks Taiwan had bid goodbye to sakura-themed collections for spring and moved onto a desert-inspired summer collection. Since the +65 is no stranger to the scorching summer heat, Starbucks Singapore has just announced that it will be releasing the same series featuring hedgehog mugs and other drinkware, alongside those featuring cacti and sunflowers. After all, there’s no better way to beat the heat than chilling in a cafe with a cup of iced coffee.

Read on to find out the prices of the adorable items, as well as when the collection will arrive in stores.

Mugs

There are 3 mugs in this collection, but the mug that caught our eye first was this kawaii 10oz mug. The base of the mug is a brown “pot” with a round green cactus lid sitting on top.

Additionally, the mug comes with a spoon that has a hedgehog tip to stir creamer into your morning coffee. The hedgehog comfortably greets you by peeking its head out from a hole at the corner of the lid.

The 10oz mug will be retailing for $39.90.

The 3oz espresso mug, $36.90, is shaped like the base of a prickly cactus, with lifelike spikes jutting out around it. An equally prickly hedgehog friend sits and joins the mug on a wooden tray. The long wooden tray functions as a coaster, and it can be used to serve with biscuits to complete your tea break.

The last transparent 12oz mug is perfect for minimalists who love watching the aesthetic gradient of coffee and cream mix through the glass walls. It is retailing for $28.90 and also comes with a simple metal hedgehog stirrer to complete the look.

Cold Cups

From left: 20oz Cold Cup, $28.90; 18oz Cold Cup; $39.90; 16oz Cold Cup, $23.90

Just as how hydroflasks are an essential for VSCO girls, Cold Cups are the equivalent for Starbucks fans. The brown Cold Cup (middle) with a simple sketch of a hedgehog running is perfect for people who enjoy minimalist designs. Meanwhile, the other 2 cups in the collection features warm and cosy sunflowers.

Each Cold Cup includes a cute rubber straw holder on top shaped in either a cactus or a sunflower. Say goodbye to the humid weather and treat yourself to a Frappuccino with these Cold Cups.

Much like a tall, spiky cactus, this mint green Cold Cup is textured with little bumps to mimic the plant. The 24oz Cold Cup is only limited to one piece per customer, retailing for $39.90 each.

Bottles and tumblers

From left: 16oz bottle, $40.90; 9.5oz bottle, $36.90; 24oz bottle, $33.90; 14oz bottle, $24.90

Coffee aside, staying hydrated is an important part of our daily routine. The bottles in this collection come in chic and minimalist designs, with 2 stainless steel bottles (left) to keep your water refreshingly cool in this heat. The white design has an additional cactus topper to add a pop of colour, while the blue-green bottle has a handle for you to easily carry it to school.

The next 2 transparent bottles with sunflower prints (right) are light and small enough to tuck into your bags when you’re out on a walk.

Travel to the desert with your hedgehog friend by taking the smallest bottle in this collection with you. You won’t have to go far, as after all, Singapore’s weather feels like a desert on most days. This 8oz bottle is retailing for $34.90.

From left: 16oz bottle; $48.90; 10.8oz bottle, $33.90; 20oz bottle, $52.90

We’re definitely spoiled for choice when it comes to the bottles in this collection, almost as if Starbucks is reminding us to drink more water in this heat. The last 3 bottles take on a more colourful theme to light up your day.

From left: 16oz tumbler, $27.90; 20oz tumbler, $49.90; 12oz tumbler, $24.90

Unlike a water bottle, tumblers aren’t meant for tossing into your bag. Its convenience of keeping your coffee warm while allowing you to sip as you walk is a blessing for many, especially during the peak hour rush.

Beat The Heat With Starbucks’ Hedgehog Mugs

Like the Starbucks Bee Mine series, which dropped in Taiwan before making its way here, the Starbucks Happy Hedgehog Collection is landing in Starbucks stores in Singapore come 14 April 2021.

And, because good things come to those who wait, we’ll even have some items that weren’t part of the Taiwan collection. These include the studded mint Cold Cup and a cool pitcher, which will be available at the Starbucks Flagship Store on LazMall and Shopee Mall on the same day at 12pm, along with the rest of the line-up.

You can also use exclusion words to improve the relevance of your search results.

When forming a search query, it is possible to use the query language.

Usually a request is just one or several words, for example: “fresh cod fish” – this request contains information that contains all the words of the request.

Logical operators allow you to build more complex queries, for example: “fresh fish or vacuum cleaner” – this query finds information that contains either the words “fresh” and “fish”, or the word “vacuum cleaner”.

“Fresh fish is not mackerel” – this request contains information that contains the words “fresh” and “fish” and does not find the word “mackerel”.

You can use parentheses to build more complex queries.

90,000 Disposable cups will go to the second round – Kommersant FM – Kommersant

Starbucks will find a discarded coffee cup, clean it and put it back on the shelf: The coffee chain is partnering with McDonald’s this week to launch an experiment that is expected to cut waste by 40%.Bloomberg reports. How will the circuit work? And will it take root in Russia? Sorted out Ivan Yakunin and Elena Ivanova.

They promise to make a disposable cup “smart”. A QR code will appear on it, which the user must scan when the drink gets into his hands and when he is about to throw it away. The dishes will be traced back to the mark and, after some treatment, will be returned to the restaurant for reuse. The experiment will take place in Palo Alto and San Arancisco, California. A resident of the latter, Vyacheslav, did not appreciate the idea: “Here they are always trying to sort the garbage, and there are these bins.As for Starbucks, this is nonsense. I don’t see Starbucks trash, never did. And inside Starbucks they clean up after themselves. In my opinion, this is some kind of nonsense, nonsense – to collect some cups, mark some garbage. ”

On the other hand, both Starbucks and McDonald’s use over a billion disposable cups a year. The new technology, which has been developed for two years, will allow them to save money, says Aleksandr Bagin, a member of the Committee of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Nature Management and Ecology: “The very idea of digital traceability is already being implemented in the form of labeling – this is a very positive trend, since we need objective data on the life cycle of the products that we consume. We must also take into account the mechanism of responsibility of producers and importers for disposal.

Here, of course, the introduction of all means of such traceability is necessary. ”

But there is a caveat – companies plan to use plastic cups, and it is almost impossible to recycle. For the same reason, many coffee shops have abandoned plastic tubes, replacing them with paper ones. The problem of large waste could have been solved differently, says Alexey Maslennikov, editor of the Ottody.ru portal: “For me, we need to switch to biodegradable materials. For example, there are biodegradable cups based on corn, soy. There are enough of them to drink a cocktail, and then they are already soaked, they turn into jelly, the bacteria eat them up. Why bother with QR codes? I have no idea who will track them. What, will people climb the trash heaps, or will it be some kind of special trash heap? Biodegradable materials are still expensive, yes, they cost more than polystyrene cups, but then you just have to develop, make it all cheaper. ”

How much money the company spent on the development of the new system is unknown.Apparently, small players will not be able to afford such expenses, and therefore the technology will most likely not get widespread, the owner of the Take and Wake coffee chain Alexei Petropolsky predicts: “This may appear in Russia. But the question is that at the moment the cost of a glass is about 70 kopecks, and it is somehow unprofitable for small chains and small businesses to save at such prices. Because to create an application, to disseminate information about it – the cost of all this will be tens of thousands of times higher than the amount that can be saved. “

I didn’t find myself in a junkyard

“Kommersant” will help you determine your attitude to garbage

Watch

However, Bloomberg writes about it with some admiration: “In the future, when you order coffee at Starbucks or McDonald’s, it may be served in a mug from which you drank a few months ago.”And if you put the question differently? It can be served in a mug from which your colleague drank, who, for example, coughed endlessly several months ago. This can also scare off buyers, continues Alexey Petropolsky: “This question interests me most of all. It is not so much a matter of aesthetics as of simple safety.

Because if a person was sick with something, left his saliva or something else there, and someone then drinks from there, and the glass was not washed well, then there are more questions than answers.I would think 10 times before pouring tea or coffee into such a glass. ”

However, the creators of the technology assure that the cleaning will be of quite high quality, there is no reason for concern. But there is still no answer to the question of what will happen if buyers do not want to scan the code before ejecting the order book.

Greta Thunberg did not respond to a corresponding request from Kommersant FM.
