Fee-free Visa Gift Cards at Staples
Update 5/6/21: Staples fee-free Visa Gift Cards will again be available from 5/9/21 to 5/15/21. Nothing says Happy Mother’s Day like fee-free points!
Staples will once again be offering fee-free $200 Visa Gift Cards starting Sunday, May 9, 2021 through Saturday, May 15, 2021. The ad states five per customer per day, which has been the new limit. The Deal
- Staples will waive the $6.95 activation fee when you buy a $200 Visa Gift Card from 5/9/21 to 5/15/21
- Direct link to ad (see page 1 of next week’s ad)
- Limit 5 per customer per day (YMMV on whether your cashier / store follows the ad)
- In-store only
This can be an easy point-generator for Ink Cash or Ink Plus cardholders (note that the Ink Plus is no longer available to new applicants).
In my case, my wife is an AU on my Ink Plus card, so if we were going to a store, we could each pick up 5 fee-free $200 gift cards per store per day, earning 10K Ultimate Rewards in the process ($2000 in gift cards x 5 = 10,000 points). That would certainly make this an attractive enough deal if we were to pass a store during this promotion.
Overall, this is an easy way to generate some points without cost on this end of the deal if you’re going to Staples. Remember that this does not start until Sunday and it is in-store only.
We have added this deal to our list of current Visa and Mastercard gift card deals.

Liquidating Visa Gift Card
The Visa gift card is pin-enabled. The PIN number is usually the last four digits of the card number. You can utilize my previous liquidation strategy or simply use it for normal spend. They have become harder to use because of the changes at Walmart so be aware of that.
It’s nice to see Staples move away from the restricted rebate program to a discount that is seemingly more scalable. Test it out with multiple Visa gift cards in same transactions, and hopefully it works again. That would make things much easier.

You might be thinking, “Kinda cool I guess, but why are you capitalizing, bolding, and italicizing BIG for?
Well, this is one of the ways I earn millions of points every year for FREE.
By using a category bonus credit card (I use the Chase Ink Plus for 5X points at office supply stores like Staples), you can earn a ton of points for really no cost.
Ninja Note: You can no longer get the Chase Ink Plus, but the Chase Ink Cash is similar.
For example, if I buy 1 of these Visa gift cards, I’ll earn 1,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points ($200 x 5 points per dollar spent) by spending it on my Chase Ink Plus card.
If I buy 100 of these cards, I would get 100,000 Chase points ($20,000 x 5 points per dollar spent).
100,000 Chase points is enough to redeem for $1,500 worth of travel or even get $1,000 cash straight up.
You can treat the Visa gift card like cash and use it anywhere. Yes, the more gift cards you buy, the longer it will take to use them all. However, if you’re creative, you can really liquidate your gift cards quickly.
For example, you can pay your mortgage or utility bill with these cards. Another angle is pre-paying your taxes – you can do this twice a quarter. Others have somewhat secretive ways of burning through these in no time at all.
Again, be creative.Stack With AMEX Offers or Chase Offers
As you know it, the stars are aligned. Currently, both American Express and Chase have promotions at Staples through their “AMEX Offers” and “Chase Offers” program.
If you don’t know what these are, it’s basically additional savings that American Express and Chase provides to their card holders. You just have to activate (add) the offers to your account.
You can find all of the current offers by logging into your account on your desktop or mobile device – on the main page, there’s a section that dedicated to these deals.AMEX Offers
On some AMEX cards, customers are getting offered a 10% statement credit back at Staples, up to a maximum of $50:
With the current Staples deal, you can buy 3 $200 gift cards for a total of $600. By doing so, you’ll be saving $50 by using this AMEX offer.
That’s a $50 profit (spending $550 to get $600 worth of gift cards) right off the bat. Plus, you’ll get all the points on top of that!Chase Offers
Similar to AMEX, Chase is offering card holders a 20% statement credit back at Staples, up to a maximum statement credit of $34.
Because it’s 20% off, you’d max this offer out by buying just 1 $200 Visa gift card.
That’s a $34 profit (spending $167 to get a $200 gift card). And if it’s on a Chase card that gives you 5X points at office supply stores, you’d also earn 1,000 points. The Bottom Line
Even without the AMEX Offers or Chase Offers, this is a hot deal. I buy these at every chance I get and use them for everyday purchases. It’s like spending cash, but with all those free credit card points you’re going to generate by doing this deal!
Staples Visa Gift Card Promo, $5 Off Purchase Fee Plus 5X Rewards (Apr. 11-17)
Staples Visa Gift Card Promo
There’s a new Staples Visa Gift Card promotion starting April 11, and running through April 17. You can get a $5 discount of the purchase fee for $200 Visa gift cards. That fee is normally $6.95, so you would be paying just $1.95 instead. This is a good opportunity for free credit card rewards, especially when combined with one of the Chase Ink cards [5X Ultimate Rewards] or Amex SimplyCash Plus [5% Cashback].
Get $5 off the purchase fee when you buy a $200 Visa® Gift Card. You can see the promotion in next week’s ad.
- Valid 04/11/21-04/17/21.
- In store only.
- Limit 5 per customer per day.
- The Visa Gift Card is issued by MetaBank
How to Maximize Profits
This is not the best offer from Staples, since they usually have promotion for fee-free Visa Gift Cards. There is a limit of 5, so you can purchase $1,000 in Visa gift cards per day. You can do that at multiple stores daily, so you could easily rack up rewards if you are blessed with multiple locations nearby. Plus there’s no rebates and waiting for a gift card in the mail. Some stores might even let you make multiple purchases of 5 cards.
For every $200 Visa gift card you buy, you can earn 1,000 Chase UR points if you’re using your Chase Ink Plus/Cash card, for a cost of $1.95. With the Amex SimplyCash Plus card you get a $8. 05 profit for every card.
How To Liquidate Gift Cards
Visa gift cards can be liquidated by buying money orders at Walmart or at various grocery stores and other locations. But beware of recent issues at Walmart and Kroger. The PIN is already set as the last 4 digits of the card number. The can also be used for bill pay at Walmart and Kmart. If everything else fails, you can always use them everywhere Visa is accepted and you’re still earning 5X on every purchase.
This might not be the best deal from Staples, but it s still profitable if you have an easy way to liquidate the gift cards. I would suggest going to your nearest location early on Sunday because stock runs out quickly. And remember, this only applies to $200 Visa gift cards.
Also remember that Chase Ultimate Rewards points can now be redeemed for 1.5 cent on select purchases, if you have a Chase Sapphire Reserve card.
Staples Fee-Free Visa Gift Cards 5/9-5/15/2021
Starting Sunday, May 9th, through Saturday, March 15th, Staples is again offering one of their lucrative FEE-FREE $200 Visa Gift Card promotions.
Normally, these gift cards cost $206.95 each but with this deal, you can purchase these cards without the activation fee of $6.95.
Maximum of 5 cards per day per customer. In-Store Only.
Why Buy These Gift Cards?
With the right credit card, these discounted gift cards have the potential to generate an enormous amount of points that can be ultimately used for discounted flights and free hotel stays.
Let me illustrate how this Staples deal can be quite lucrative.
When you use the no-annual-fee Chase Ink Cash Credit Card to grab 5 of these gift cards at least four times during the promo period, you can possibly earn upwards of 20,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points.
Check out the table below on how valuable these offers can be.
|Staples Visit||# of Cards||Cost||Points (with the Ink Cash)|
|1||5||$1,000||5,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards|
|2||10||$2,000||10,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards|
|3||15||$3,000||15,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards|
|4||20||$4,000||20,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards|
|5||25||$5,000||25,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards|
|6||30||$6,000||30,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards|
Caution: Only purchase the number of gift cards that you can comfortably liquidate in the future. I will list out the best ways to liquidate these gift cards later in this post. Also, since these purchases are charged to your credit card, please be mindful to only purchase an amount that you can easily pay in full once your credit card statement comes around. It is NEVER a good idea to pay banks hefty bills. Hence, do not employ this strategy if you anticipate challenges settling your bill in full on or before the due date.
We announce these Staples gift card offers as soon as we know about them in our free Facebook Travel Miles and Points group.Step 2:
Try to swing by at Staples on the first hour of the first day of the promotion period. It goes without saying that these deals are extremely popular so it is not unusual that cards sell out fast.
Even though they run out quickly, some Staples stores replenish their supply mid-week so I’ve had success in locating these gift cards during the week as well.
Hence, trying to stop by a few times at the store, if your schedule allows, or calling the store before heading out to inquire if there are cards available is recommended.Step 3:
Purchase only the number of gift cards that you can conveniently liquidate and pay off completely.
Since this method is one of my primary sources of miles and points that I leverage for free travel, I try to maximize by stopping by Staples a few times each week.
Therefore, I do my due diligence by making sure I have an adequate amount of savings that I can tap to pay off my credit card before its due date.
In short, I do not purchase beyond what I’m capable of paying.Step 4:
Liquidate these gift cards by utilizing any of the suggested methods in the article below.Step 5:
Wait for the Chase Ultimate Rewards points to show up under your Chase Ink Cash account.
Since Chase Ink Cash is a no-annual-fee card, you have very limited ways to redeem for free travel.
But if you have any of Chase’s premium, annual-fee cards, namely the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Sapphire Reserve, and Chase Ink Business Preferred, you can move your Chase Ink Cash points to any of these premium cards so you could redeem them for free or discounted travel.
Transferring your Chase points between accounts can be quite confusing if you do not know where to look, so the post below will walk you through the process step-by-step.Step 6:
Once your points are moved to any of Chase’s premium cards, you now have the flexibility to redeem your points for free travel by either using Chase’s travel portal (powered by Expedia) or transferring to Chase’s travel partners.
Generally, I have optimized both redemption paths in the past, but for the most part, I transfer my points to Hyatt since that Chase partner consistently gives me the best bang for my buck.
Or, I use it to transfer to an airline partner for flights on premium cabins (business or first class).
Case in point, I will be in Japan this summer and have been eyeing to stay at the Park Hyatt Kyoto.
However, the property costs over $1,000/night, an amount I am not willing to pay by any stretch of the imagination. Yet, the same room only requires 30,000 Hyatt points.
Thus, swinging by Staples 6X this week will allow me to book this property for a night for FREE.Step 7:
Determine if using the Chase portal or transferring to travel partners is the best redemption pathway for you.
The article below provides examples of how you can compare both options so you can make a decision that is suitable for your own particular situation.Step 8:
Enjoy your free redemption!
And keep an eye out for the next office supply store deal!
A. Initially, some Staples cashiers and managers were not familiar with the 5-card maximum per person policy.
In case they refuse to sell 5 cards at a time, politely ask them to check the details of the ad posted at the store which should clearly state that a maximum number of 5 cards can now be purchased per transaction.
B. It is not uncommon for some Staples stores to keep their $200 Visa gift cards at their back office or behind the counter so inquire if you are not able to locate them on the shelves.
C. Make sure the cards that you purchase do not have their serial numbers exposed or tampered with.
D. Before stepping out of the store, ensure that all the cards you purchased have successfully been activated.
E. This is in-store only so if you do not have a Staples near you, sorry! Online purchases may not trigger this discount.
This promotion works well in two instances:OPTION A
Purchasing using a credit card that gives a bonus in office supply stores, specifically the Chase Ink Cash, which gives 5 Chase Ultimate Rewards points per dollar in office supply stores.
Currently, Chase Ink Cash is offering an all-time high bonus of 75,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards after spending $7,500 in 3 months. No annual fee. Aside from earning 5 points at office supply stores, it also gives 5 points per dollar on internet, phone, and cable charges.
Indeed, an incredibly rewarding no-annual-fee business card! You can read more about its current generous offer here.
As previously stated, if you are able to purchase 5 of these $200 gift cards each time you visit Staples this week, you can net 5,000 Chase UR points at each visit ($200 X 5 cards = 1,000 X 5 UR points = 5,000 Chase UR points).
Refresher: 1 Chase UR from a no-annual-fee card like the Chase Ink Cash is equivalent to only 1 cent if you withdraw your points as cashback. Alternatively, if you have one of the 3 premium Chase cards (Sapphire Reserve, Sapphire Preferred, or Ink Business Preferred), you can transfer your UR points accrued from Ink Cash to these premium cards in order to access more lucrative redemption options such as transferring to airline and hotel partners. If you want to know more about how to transfer your Ink Cash points to the aforementioned Chase premium cards, here is a step by step guide on how to do it.
Again, depending on how much time you have in your hands and how many Staples branches are within your vicinity, you can certainly collect upwards of 30,000 Chase points if you are able to swing by Staples at least 6x this week.Fraud Alert
If you are using your Chase Ink Cash to buy gift cards for the first time, make sure you have your phone with you as Chase may send you a fraud alert via text. Once you verify who is making the purchase, Chase will approve the transaction but the cashier may have to scan the gift cards again.OPTION B
Meeting a minimum spend requirement for a credit card you recently got approved for.
But, do not use an American Express Credit Card as AMEX claws back bonuses if spending requirements were met by buying gift cards.
How to Liquidate These Gift Cards
You can use these Visa gift cards to cover any of the below expenses:
- Costco (in-store, online, and gas)
- Estimated Taxes
- Medical Bills
- Utilities: Electricity, Water, Internet, Phone, Garbage, etc.
- Gas (you need to pay in the store)
- Auto Insurance
- Home Insurance
- Car Repair/Maintenance
- Shopping (in-store and online)
It is also possible to purchase money orders using these gift cards, depending on your geographical location. Sadly, it is quite challenging to find stores in the San Francisco Bay Area that will allow money orders to be purchased using Visa Gift Cards but I am aware that this is possible in certain regions of the country.
If you are one of the fortunate people to have access to money orders, kudos to you! You can then use those money orders to pay for rent, mortgage, or any other bill.
Personally, I am a huge fan of these promotions and I try to take advantage of them every opportunity I have.
Whether you are a seasoned travel hacker or new to the hobby, I highly encourage you to consider leveraging this method to accumulate a substantial amount of Chase UR points.
However, a gentle reminder to only purchase the number of gift cards that you can comfortably pay once your credit card statement comes around.
It is never a good idea to keep a balance in your cards and consequently end up paying high-interest charges. That will defeat the purpose of this hobby, which is free frugal travel.
Do you plan to swing by Staples this week too?

Staples, Inc. has filed 537 labor condition applications for h2B visa and 57 labor certifications for green card from fiscal year 2018 to 2020. Staples was ranked 344 among all visa sponsors. Please note that 5 LCA for h2B Visa and 0 LC for green card have been denied or withdrawn during the same period.
Note: Before Staples, Inc. can hire foreign workers permanently or temporarily, it must file labor certifications with the Department of Labor(DOL), demonstrating that it is paying the required wage for the positions in the geographic region where the jobs are located. Above table reports Labor Condition Application(LCA) for h2B visa and Labor Certification(LC) for green card filed by Staples, Inc.. The data only indicates the number of applications filed by Staples, Inc.. It does not mean that Staples, Inc. actually got the visa and hired the workers.
Our LCA data includes LCA submitted for not only new employment, but also continuation or change in previously approved employment, new concurrent employment, change in employer and amended petition. Usually, only LCA for new employment needs h2B Visa quota if it is not cap-exempt.
Staples, Inc. has applied for 660 LC and LCA from fiscal year 2018 to 2020. But this does not mean they really hired 660 foreign workers during this period. The visa applications might have been denied. When an employee renews or transfers his h2B visa or change work location under some circumstances, he will also file a new LCA application.
Department of Labor(DOL) typically certifies more than 3 times the number of foreign work requests than the number of h2B visas issued by USCIS. So there is no one to one relationship between the number of workers certified by the DOL and the number of h2B work visas issued by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
Is $300 Visa Gift Card at Staples.com a Game Changer?
By now, you’ve probably heard the news. You can currently buy $300 Visa gift card online at Staples.com Why is this a big deal and why should you care? Well, if you have Chase Ink Plus, then you probably know that it earns 5 points per dollar on office supply store purchases.
Yes, it is a business card and you are technically supposed to only use it for business-related purchases. But many leverage this bonus category to buy gift cards for various retailers. I wrote about it in this post to show that this strategy can be quite lucrative in certain situations.
Just a reminder: A bonus on this product is temporarily increased to 60K points, and you can read about it in this overview of business cards. In all likelihood, it will be increased again at some point in the future. This offer pays me referral.
But what if you don’t live near office supply store? I don’t. Up until now, you could only buy $200 Visa gift card from Staples.com and the math to me just wasn’t worth the headache. But $300 gift card is a totally different story. It comes with $9 fee, and you will be getting 1,500 Ultimate Rewards points on each card. I speculatively value UR point at 1.25 cents, so 1,500 points are worth almost $19.
So, if we deduct $9 fee, that’s a profit of $10 or an equivalent of 3.3% overall return. Do make sure you take into account Chase Ink Plus’ annual fee of $95. Speaking of, my reader Nancy has mentioned in her blog post that she was able to call and get 10K points at renewal time. It never hurts to ask.
Of course, you may value your UR point at 1 cent, or what you would be able to redeem it for cash. In which case, you are earning an equivalent of 2%, not bad. Plus, since it’s a flexible point, there is always a possibility to redeem it for travel or transfer it to partner program, thereby extracting more value. It looks like an especially attractive proposition if:
- You plan to transfer points to Southwest, more so if you have a Companion pass. Those 1,500 points will give you $24 in airfare or $48 with Companion pass since you can bring another traveler for free. This would be the most compelling scenario, no doubt.
- You are looking to transfer to Hyatt and redeem points at a category 1 or 2 property (costs 5,000 and 8,000 points respectively). Most of these hotels go for at least $100 per night, so it could be a very good deal, but ONLY if you would pay cash anyway.
Of course, there are other lucrative scenarios, but I wanted to highlight those two particular programs. Why? UR has monopoly on Hyatt and Southwest. It’s true, the same goes for United, but there are ways to redeem miles on United flights via other programs, and at times, come out ahead on mileage cost.
But what if you don’t really care about Hyatt or Southwest? You might want to stick to Amex Blue Cash Preferred and Amex EveryDay Preferred. This is an overview I made in a post awhile back:
Say, both you and your spouse got each of these cards. Majority of my posts assume monthly family spending of $2,000 to $2,500. You would get the best bang for your buck when purchasing one $500 Visa gift card with each Amex. That’s because the extra bonus only applies on up to maximum of $6,000 per year/ per account. Of course, if you need to get groceries anyway, you can just use the credit card.
But even if you shop at Walmart, this is probably the most lucrative/easy strategy for most busy families. You can just stop once a week by your grocery store, get a few things you need anyway, and pick up a gift card. Then use it for your regular bills. Obviously, you would be better off using credit card for things that might have issues down the road, like expensive electronics and appliances.
Here is how your awards would stack up:
- Grocery spending alone will yield 27,000 Membership Rewards on each Amex Everyday Preferred. The total would be 54,000 Membership Rewards. You can add your spouse as an authorized user, and they will be allowed to transfer points to their own mileage account.
I wrote about some possible uses of MR program when it comes to family travel. This amount will take care of 4 one-way (at times, roundtrip) tickets in most loyalty schemes. If there is a transfer bonus, you will do even better. So, after 2 years, you should have enough miles to fly your family of 4 roundtrip in economy domestically, excluding Hawaii.
- Grocery spending bonus will yield $360 on each Blue Cash Preferred. The total on both would be $720.
So, if you maximize grocery store bonus, you will have $720 AND 54,000 Membership Rewards points (which I speculatively value at $675). Of course, there are fees:
- You will pay $95 annual fee on each Amex Everyday Preferred and $75 on Blue Cash Preferred. Grand total of $340. But if you are familiar with Amex, you know you can make up for those fees via various promos. Yes, it will take some work, but it’s not unreasonable to assume that.
You will pay around $240 in fees if you buy gift cards and spend very little at a grocery store.
Even if we assume that you will get zero value out of Amex offers, there is a compelling argument to stick with this combo. Say you pay $580 in fees. You would still have 54,000 MR points, and $140, all via spending of $24,000 per year. That’s a terrific return, all things considered.
By comparison, if you used Citi Double Cash, you would have $480. Plus, remember, we are assuming that you will get zero out of Amex offers. Of course, some of your bills will be paid with credit card, but this breakdown should give you a general idea on possible return following this scenario.Bottom line
Overall, I do think this new $300 Visa gift card is a game changer, but only if you can maximize UR points for travel redemptions, specifically Southwest. If you are a lover of Hyatt (nothing wrong with that), you should definitely look into it as well.
Otherwise, you might be better off going after plain ole’ cash via Amex Blue Cash Preferred and collecting MR points via Amex EveryDay Preferred when it comes to your regular spending.

Czech Republic Visa Information In Moscow (Russia) – Russian
What is a Schengen visa?
A Schengen visa is a sticker that is glued to a passport, travel document or other valid document that entitles its holder to cross the border. The fact of obtaining a Schengen visa does not mean that the right to enter will be granted automatically. Entry will be allowed only if the conditions set out in the Schengen Agreement are met, i.e.e. upon confirmation of the purpose and conditions of the trip and the availability of sufficient funds.
What is a short stay Schengen visa?
Short stay visa is one of the most common types of Schengen visa. It gives the right to single, double or multiple entry into the territory of 26 Schengen member states subject to visa requirements for a period not exceeding three months (90 days) within six months after the date of the first entry into the Schengen area. A short-term visa can be single-entry, double-entry or multiple-entry. Its validity period does not exceed five years.
Single entry visa entitles you to continuous stay in the territory of the Schengen countries, not exceeding the number of days indicated in the visa, during the validity of the visa. The maximum period for which a visa can be issued is 90 days. In the following example, the length of stay indicated on the visa is 30 days. Usually, a grace period of 15 days is added to the number of days of stay indicated on the visa, which is provided in case the visa recipient wishes to postpone his trip.
Double-entry visa entitles you to double-entry into the territory of the Schengen countries during the validity period of the visa for a total number of days not exceeding that specified in the visa. The maximum total number of days for which a visa can be issued is 90 days.
Multiple-entry visa gives the right to multiple-entry into the territory of one or more member states of the Schengen Agreement, provided that the total period of stay does not exceed 90 days within six months from the date of the first entry. The duration of stay can be continuous or it can include several separate periods during the validity of the visa. The validity period of a multiple-entry visa is from six months to five years (for citizens who have submitted sufficient guarantees).
Visa for staying in the controlled area of the airport (ATV)
An ATB visa is required for citizens of certain countries who cross international transit zones of airports without actually entering the territory of the respective country, while stopping or transferring at the airport between two stages of an international flight.Such a visa is an exception to the general rule providing for the right to cross the international transit zone without a visa.
Citizens of the Russian Federation do not need a visa to stay in the controlled area of the airport.
If the passenger plans to leave the international transit area of the airport, he needs a short-term visa type C.
When should you apply for a visa?
Applications are filed no earlier than six months before the start of the proposed trip (for seafarers traveling for the purpose of performing professional activities – not earlier than 9 months before the start of the proposed trip).
A Schengen visa must be requested at the embassy / consulate of the country where you plan to spend more time compared to other Schengen states. Therefore, before submitting an application to the Embassy of the Czech Republic, you should decide on your travel plans. If you plan to visit several Schengen countries, you need to apply for a visa to the consulate of the country in which you will stay the longest. If the period of stay in two or more Schengen countries is the same, you should apply for a visa at the embassy / consulate of the country of first entry.
|Schengen visa valid in the following countries:|
Calculation of the permitted period of stay in the Schengen area based on rule 90/180
To calculate the possibility of staying in Schengen on each specific day, it is necessary to take into account the period of 180 days preceding the current day.
An electronic calculator is used to calculate the number of days, which you can find at http://ec.europa.eu/dgs/home-affairs/what-we-do/policies/borders-and-visas/border-crossing/index_en. htm, chapter “short-stay calculator”.
From 18.10.2013, when checking the permitted period of stay, a 180-day period is calculated prior to the date of the check. Unlike the previous principle, the periods are no longer calculated from the date of the first entry into the territory of the state / Schengen area, now the period is movable and depends on the date of the visa check. If the person was in the Schengen area during the 180-day retroactive accounting period, the number of days spent is deducted from the number of days allowed on the basis of the visa. Only those days spent in the Schengen area that are included in the 180-day retroactive accounting period are counted as days spent. When calculating the length of stay on the territory of the Schengen member states, stays on the basis of a residence permit or long-term visa are not taken into account. Since the 180-day period is no longer dependent on the first date of entry into the territory of the state / Schengen area, and the 180-day check-in period is mobile, travelers on the basis of a visa should be closely monitored so that they are not in the territory for a 180-day period. EU Member States longer than the visa-allowed period of stay.
An illustrative example of the calculation of the permitted period of stay on the basis of a multiple-entry short-stay visa from 18.10.2013
The person has a multiple-entry visa valid from 15.11.2012 to 15.11.2013 (1 year). The permitted length of stay is 90 days in a 180-day period. Visa holder:
- enters the Schengen area on 20.11.2012 and leaves on 08.01.2013 (50 days)
- enters the Schengen area on 05/01/2013 and leaves on 06/01/2013 (32 days)
- enters the Schengen area on 09/18/2013 and exits on 19.10.2013 (32 days)
10/19/2013 when leaving, the person is checked to be in the Schengen area during the 180-day retroactive settlement period preceding the date of the check, that is, from 04/23/2013 to 10/19/2013. The dates of entry and exit are included in the number of days spent.
The 180-day check-in period from 04/23/2013 to 10/19/2013 includes stays from 05/01/2013 to 06/01/2013 (32 days) and from 09/18/2013 to 10/19/2013 (32 days), out of the allowed 90 days the person was in the Schengen area for 64 days.
Stays between 11/20/2012 and 01/08/2013 do not fall within the 180-day retroactive accounting period, therefore these days are not counted.
Regulation No. 610/2013 of 26.06.2013 of the European Parliament and of the Council amending Regulation (EC) No 562/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council, which establishes a Community Code that regulates the crossing regime people of borders (Schengen Borders Code).
