The convenience of printing has, over the years, become less of a luxury and more of a necessity with the likes of families, students and small businesses needing in-house access to physical documents on a more regular basis.

Like most medium-to-large pieces of tech, printers can retail for upwards of $100, with one of the top-rated picks, the Canon PIXMA Wireless Color All-In-One printer, initially retailing for $100. The customer-favorite, however, is currently available for 50 percent off at Staples, with free two-day delivery attached to the purchase.

Detailing its “all-in-one” functionality, the product’s description outlines that this device prints, scans and faxes, all while taking up little space in your home or office.

“It is the right size which has the right features, like Wi-Fi Auto 2-sided printing and an automatic document feeder for scanning and faxing,” the description continues.

In addition to these key features, this device is also photo compatible, allowing it to print not only documents, but also pictures on various types of glossy and high-resolution paper. It’s also compatible with Microsoft Windows, Apple macOS, iOS and Android, allowing it to seamlessly and wirelessly pair with almost any device.

Shoppers have given this tried-and-true printer the stamp of approval for years, with one sharing that it’s a “great printer for the price.”

“Very simple to use, space efficient and doesn’t take away from the Decor of the room,” one five-star reviewer wrote, with another adding that it came in handy when she had to adjust to working from home.

“I was very impressed with the ease of set up and the print quality,” the shopper wrote. “It has also been wonderful on ink. I must have printed a quarter ream of paper with the starter ink and am about 3 quarters through the rest of the ream on the new XL in and I just got a notification that ink was half gone. Amazing!”

One shopper highlighted that the only con he noticed is that it “prints a bit slow.” However, he outlined that this is not a deal-breaker considering that the quality and price of the item are “great.”

Staples’ 3-D Printing Service Has Arrived

Two years after testing 3-D printing service centers in Europe, office supply and services giant Staples is trying the concept in America, with two 3-D printing “experience centers” in New York and Los Angeles. The idea is to educate consumers and small businesses about 3-D printing and more easily facilitate its use.

The centers–which opened inside the Fifth Avenue and Studio City stores in the last month–are in partnership with 3D Systems, which is providing the design, scanning, and printing hardware and software for occasional use or to try out before purchasing. Staples offers assistance from 3-D printing experts and eventually plans more such centers.

“Part of our brand is to help small businesses market themselves,” says Damien Leigh, Staples’ senior vice president of business services. “3-D printing is an emerging technology, and most small-business customers have read about it in the media but don’t know how to access it. So, we’re creating a market for 3-D printing as a service–helping them understand the process and how they can apply it to their business, then giving them the means to design and print sophisticated renderings, without having to make major capital investments.”

The 3-D printing marketplace has opened up around the world, thanks to declining costs of 3-D printers and services, increasing user-friendliness of the technology, and rising popularity of the DIY/Maker movement and hackerspaces. Staples decision for an overseas test first had less to do with the exploding European 3-D printing market than an opportunity presenting itself with MCor Technologies. Other conglomerates are attempting similar approaches. For example, The UPS Store is collaborating with Stratasys for an on-site 3-D printing service in Israel.

However, Staples is the first major retailer to offer consumer and prosumer 3-D printers, which it does online and in 150 of its 1,500 U.S. stores. They range in price from $1,300 to $5,000, and printing sizes from 5.5 to 12 cubic inches in a range of materials: ABS (petroleum-based plastic), PLA (biodegradable polymer), castable material for dental and jewelry-making molds, and gypsum-based powder. In addition to entry-level machines, the experience center provides access to a $60,000 professional full-color 3-D printer.

Customers can print larger, more complex items off-site on a 3D Systems’ $1 million set-up through a cloud-printing service offered in-store, which are then shipped to offices or home. The system prints up to 1.5 square meter objects, with larger models made by connecting those printed components.

Customers can use in-store design software or 3-D print-ready files from their own computers or file sites, like Cubify.com and Thingiverse.com. They can also capture their own images using 3-D photo booths or scanners for personalized products, like figurines (think wedding-cake toppers) or smartphone cases. In fact, 3D Systems’ senior research engineer Scott Turner used the technology to craft the rings and cake topper for his own wedding.

Will Sturgeon, 3D Systems’ retail training manager, sums up the process: “We can provide every solution from start to finish, seamlessly, or we can provide one or more of those elements with equipment or software you already own.

How much does printing cost at Staples? – MVOrganizing

How much does printing cost at Staples?

Choose from over 40 paper types, multiple bindings, finishing options and more. From $0.14 per page in black & white.

Why is Staples printing so expensive?

This is because Staples has a superior supply chain. They know how to get the right amount of product where it needs to go, when it needs to be there, and they don’t store a lot of excess products in stores.

Where is it cheapest to print?

Places to Make Cheap Copies Near You

  • FedEx. FedEx, once known as Kinko’s, offers copy and print services.
  • The UPS Store. The UPS Store allows you to make black and white and color copies.

How much does it cost to print something?

Generally, color print costs are higher than black and white printing cost. Furthermore, less expensive printers generally run at a higher cost per print. For example, a $100 printer might have an average black and white cost per page of 5.5-cents, and an average color printing cost per page of 8.9-cents.

Is it cheaper to print at home or library?

Even accounting for the cost of paper, which may add an extra cent to the cost of each page, and for replacement cartridges, the at-home cost generally is less than half that of in-store printing. This conclusion also holds for extra-large print jobs, when the cost at office supply shops drops to 6 to 7 cents per page.

How much does Kinkos charge for printing?

As we already mentioned, FedEx printing cost per page usually starts at 49 cents.

How much should you spend on a printer?

These models tend to cost more up front, often selling for $250 and up, but they can save you money over time. -Staples tests 3D printing as a service with immersive 3D printing experience centers

ROCK HILL, South Carolina –April 14, 2014 3D Systems (NYSE:DDD) announced a partnership with Staples, Inc. (Nasdaq: SPLS) in a pilot of 3D printing services in two Staples stores in New York City and Los Angeles.

Each Staples store features an immersive 3D printing experience center that lets consumers and small businesses create personalized products and use 3D printing hardware. Customers can also bring in their own 3D print-ready files to have them printed.

“3D printing offers enormous potential for small businesses, and by using Staples, they can print with the technology without having to invest in it,” said Damien Leigh, Senior Vice President of Business Services for Staples, Inc. “The test with 3D Systems will help us learn about our customers’ needs for a local 3D printing service, and how Staples can help them make more happen for their business through 3D printing.”

“Staples’ established reputation as a leader in home office and small business solutions makes them an ideal partner for testing out live, consumer-facing 3D print services,” said Rajeev Kulkarni, 3DS’ Vice President and General Manager, Consumer Products Division. “We have been thrilled with the retail experience and response from our audience, and the difference it makes being able to see, touch and experience 3D printing.

Photo Caption: Manhattan 5th Avenue 3D print experience center offers 3D design and printing services to local small businesses and consumers. With the new experience centers, both small businesses and consumers are able to learn more about 3D printing through demonstration areas where they can use design software and see 3D Systems printers in action. Each store will have a 3DMe® Photobooth from 3D Systems to capture customers’ facial images for the purpose of personalizing 3D products like figurines, and customers can also print personalized smart phone cases.

Each store has an expert from 3D Systems on-site, along with trained Copy & Print associates from Staples to help guide customers on their 3D printing journey. The items will be printed on site or through 3D Systems and shipped directly to their offices or home.

Staples previously announced in May of 2013 that it would be the first major U.S. retailer to carry 3D printers, with the launch of the Cube® from 3D Systems on Staples.com. Staples & HP Parnter on Innovative Printing Technology

Staples and HP are two brands that are well known to the small business community. Each has a history of finding innovative solutions to help small business owners operate more efficiently, so when I heard that they teamed up with the release of their latest printing technology, I knew that you’d want to hear about it. On May 1, new HP OfficeJet Pro Series printers and HP PageWide printers were launched at Staples  With lower costs and faster speeds, these printers are designed to help you be more productive in the office for easier booklet printing.

Printing technology is sometimes overlooked, but choosing the right printer for your business can greatly improve your operations. Since printers are used so frequently, small differences in costs and speeds add up to big differences over time.

The HP OfficeJet Pro Series

This series of printers is for small business owners who want professional color in a compact, affordable package.

  • Professional-quality color documents will cost you up to 50 percent less per page than laser printers.
  • Employees can also boost productivity with the ability to print from their smartphones and tablets.

There are a number of models in this series. Prices start at $199.99, and they are sold both in-store and online at staple

HP PageWide Printers

This series of printers is for small business owners who need professional-quality color documents from a printer that delivers exceptional efficiency:

  • In a single pass, you can print professional-quality color documents across any width you need.
  • With just 0.5 second prints, you’ll get record-breaking speed.
  • Other benefits include energy efficiency and exceptional security.

Models in this series start at $499.99, which makes them the lowest total cost of ownership in their class. They are sold online only. Companies nowadays switch business energy suppliers to be able to be energy efficient and lower their costs.

Find the Printing Technology that Fits Your Business Needs

Each of the new offerings is a “series” of printers. This means that you can choose the exact model that will work best for your small business, based on what other specific functions you’ll use and your daily printing needs. Like any other business purchase you make, it’s important that the printing technology you select fits with the needs of your business.

Shopping at Staples has perks as well. Staples Rewards members get up to 5% back on their purchases and free shipping on any HP purchase of $14.99. They also have auto restock programs for your ink and paper so you’ll never run out of these essential office supplies.

By partnering on this latest innovative printing technology, Staples and HP are reaffirming their commitment to the small business community. Your office technology can either hold you back or push your business forward. When you purchase your next printer, don’t underestimate the importance of low costs, fast speeds, and professional quality.

90,000 Foreign objects and objects caught in the printer

I suggest you take a break from thinking about repairing printing equipment and learn about some incidents that happened with the printing equipment or its owners.
Here I will lay out all the ridiculous situations associated with printers. This heading will be constantly updated due to the devices that have come to me for repair. Also, I hope for you, the visitors of this project. If you have funny, ridiculous stories involving printing technology, photographs, etc., I will be very grateful if you send them to me by mail. Everything sent by you will be published in this section.

    And so let’s get started.

The most common problem is foreign objects in the printer, with which we will start.

The printer (Canon iP 1900) just stopped pulling the paper. I went online and found your article. And that’s what I got from there. How it got there is not clear. But it’s all right now. Thanks!!!! P. S.: this is a piece of iron on which a photo frame is hung.

Sent by Tatiana Larina. Thanks to.

Good afternoon. Late I noticed your exhibition), I have been doing repairs for a year now, here is my exhibit

Here’s another one of many, by the way the printer has printed over 25,000 pages.

    Sent by Egor. Thanks to.

I took it out of the printer

    Sent by Ruslan Kravchenko.

I just turned it upside down and shook it a little and fell out of it: a nut for 8 and a piece of arrow which attach the tags to the clothes.

    Sent by Nikolai. Thanks to.

The cardboard did not pass through the rollers, I had to turn on the “pallet cleaning” mode and here it is a soft plastic helmet from the power supply cord seal (cut it out during the BP repair).

The eraser turned out to be a foreign object. Printer model Canon IP2700 .

    Sent by Mmisshha. Thanks to.

I have a printer MP250 Canon began to jam the paper on one side and did not print anything. I’ve tried many ways (thanks to the internet). I decided to take it to the service center, my husband talked it out, says we will figure it out (he understands the technique), I did not wait for him, again with the help of the Internet I looked at how to disassemble the printer, I took the first two steps, and then this chain was there (I think my three-year-old daughter tried ), after I pulled it out, everything began to work fine.

It was sent by Natalya Solovyova, for which I am very grateful to her.

Apparently Canon MP280 or Canon MP230 . For the help of cardboard, I pulled a bag from a child’s gun

    Sent by Trushak12. Thanks to.

Printer Canon MP190 – there was an elastic band for hair!)

Sent by Mary Denega. Thank you for your contribution to the collection.

Canon MP495 . After reading your article, I found a protective film from juice
    in a paper elbow

Submitted by Vanya Lunov.Thank you for replenishing the collection.

I will describe my case: HP Deskjet 1000 , got a cap from a small tube, memory card for size comparison. I took out an item by opening the door on the bottom of the printer

Sent by BorA. Thank you for the new exhibit in the collection.

Children dropped a pencil in Canon MP280 and when taking it out they left such a straw. Enough)) with thick shoe cardboard.

    Sent by Ksyusha Koltunova.Thanks to.

Printer Canon Pixma MP280 – removed the back cover (battery compartment) from the wireless mouse !!! .. already thought the printer was in the trash! But no

Sent by Julia Schrader. Thank you for your contribution to the collection.

    Sent by Igor_my.

In the printer Canon ip1900 I found a dried leaf of a house flower measuring 1.5 * 1cm

    Sent by Sergey Skorobogatov.

    Epson TX117 – rather large self-tapping screw

In order to extract it, I had to work hard.

    Canon MP140 button from shirt

The printer Canon MP270 with CISS was brought for repair – he chewed the paper at the start of printing! It is interesting that I printed normally on A5 paper. When printing on A4 format, he began to grip the paper and immediately folded it from the right edge, the E3 error was displayed.Having disassembled the printer, I found in the middle, on the right side of the paper pick-up roller, a baby rubber band for hair. I pulled it out, assembled it, the printer started working.

Sent by Andrey. I thank him for adding to the collection.

    Canon MP140 – shirt button.

How she got there is anyone’s guess.

Canon MP210 – push pin . This is normal, it happens quite often.Apparently the button fell from somewhere into the paper feed tray.

Canon LBP2900 – ballpoint pen. Most likely they put it on paper in the tray and sent something to be printed. I’m interested in something else – why didn’t they get it on their own, because for this it was enough just to turn the device over.

Canon MP250. Here the case is more interesting. Sorry for the quality of the photo. Do you think that this red is wound on the paper feed shaft and next to it?

I will not force you to speculate. It’s pretty big …. skein of thread .

To be honest, I didn’t have enough imagination to imagine how such an amazing effect could be achieved. If you have any guesses, please share. Unfortunately, the owner of the printer never confessed. Perhaps the printer was tried to be used as a sewing machine or similar.

Canon MP280 – Jelly candy. Atypical case. The owner knew what was inside and asked for the candy to be removed.I realized that the owner himself hid the candy in the printer from the children.

The problem is that in the process of chewing by the printer or when trying to remove the candy, the candy wrapper turned around and the filling of the candy covered the paper sensor. I had to wash everything thoroughly and for a long time.

Now a little about those who live in printers.

Canon MF4410. In general, it did not supply voltage to the thermoelement, but on the back of the power supply unit lived a quite vigorous caterpillar, which made itself something like a house.

How nothing shorted in the power supply, I do not know. The voltage was not supplied to the thermoelement due to a malfunction in the power supply, but the caterpillar has nothing to do with it. During the filming, the caterpillar was not injured and was deported to the street.

    Epson TX650 – chandelier element.

Unfortunately not a diamond. But still ahead. After all, each of us deep down believes in miracles.

Canon MP495 – MicroSD memory card with adapter.

Interestingly, the device did not jam the paper, but simply tightened it slightly obliquely.

The photo was sent by Ilya Bely. Canon MP210 . The printer ended up with a spare set of buttons for clothes along with a bag of .

A few words from myself: I am very grateful, this person was the first (hopefully not the last) who had no difficulty in throwing a photo of an item from the printer to my mail. I would be grateful if others follow his example.

Canon MP230 – USB flash drive.

It turned out to be quite easy to get it. It was enough to turn the MFP over.

The photo was sent by Artem Karmazin. Canon MP210 – crumpled piece of newspaper .

I would like to express my special gratitude to Artem. It was not difficult for him to take photos and send them to me by mail. Hopefully others will follow suit.

HP Deskjet 1050 – double catch: caramel and metal hryvnia

In order to remove them, I had to disassemble the device.

Epson SX130 – hook of a purpose I do not understand

Canon MP280 – lamp from the Christmas garland

    Sent by Alexey Skidanov.

It was sent by Elena Ankudinova, for which we are very grateful to her.

In order to remove it, it was enough to turn over and shake the device. At the same time, no defects associated with a foreign object were manifested. But, according to the client, before that, the thermal film was changed in the device. But they did not bother to extract the reason for her gap.

Canon MP270 – two bolts from the system unit cover

To do this, the device had to be disassembled, it was not possible to extract it using the usual method. Imagine my surprise when, after removing one bolt, the device still did not tighten the paper and I found a second bolt in it.

To remove them, it was enough, from behind, to remove the paper feed mechanism. The scissors jammed the paper feed and the printer made a loud crack when turned on.

Canon MP280 – brush. Extracted with a plastic card

Sent by Mogilevsky Anton. Thanks to.

Canon LBP2900 – camera case lanyard. I had to disassemble the device

Oleg sent it, for which we are very grateful to him.

    Sent by Polina Borisova.

Canon MP280 – ballpoint pen. It was enough just to get it out of the tray

Epson RX610 – USB flash drive cap. It was rather difficult to extract. I had to lift the paper feed rollers with tweezers and, at the same time, push them with cardboard

Canon MP280 – a piece of walnut shell. It turned out to be quite difficult to push it through with cardboard

Starozhuk was sent by Tatiana. Thanks for updating the collection.

Canon MP282. A rather large object ( lens from the webcam ) got into the printer and was removed directly from the tray.

He took it out with the help of available tools – a ballpoint pen and a telephone, which he used to highlight.

    Sent by Alexander Dewri.

HP DeskJet F2483 – double catch. Merker cap and female hairpin

Canon Pixma MP280 . Stuck nut on 5 (sort of like) for size comparison car key

    Sent by Andrey Ermalovich.

I continue to replenish the collection. Next, I present to your attention a photo of those items that I took out. I will not comment any more, except for particularly outstanding cases. Most of the photos show the printer model.

    Double catch.

Also from the series two in one – a marker cap and a hair clip.

    To be continued.

    Stationery stapler

Stationery stapler in Togliatti, Samara and Syzran

The stapler, or stapler, is not called an “office soldier” for nothing!

Stapler in Togliatti, Samara and Syzran rightfully takes its place of honor on every office desk.Received mass distribution in office life for reliability in work, ease of use and extreme usefulness.

The stapler is a mechanical or electrical device for stapling sheet and roll materials with metal staples. It is materials, not just paper and cardboard.

We are more interested in stationery staplers, so we will leave industrial and construction staplers for wholesale.

Office Stapler , Office Stapler – a mechanical device for stapling stacks of paper and cardboard with a metal staple.

Basically, staplers are divided into pocket, desktop, powerful and special (for example, stapling). There is also a “plier” – a stapler that allows you to fasten sheets of paper by weight. There is a huge variety in design, choose according to your taste! From strict classic options to author’s and hi-tech designs.

Also, staplers are distinguished by the type of staples used. The box must contain numbers indicating the dimension of the staples. The staples are designated as follows: Staple No. 24/6. This means that the caliber of the staple is 24 and the height of the staple leg is 6 mm.The number 24 is not measured in anything. It is a mistake to think that it is the width, length, or height of the staple. Just a caliber.

For example: stapler for staple # 23. Or stapler No. 23/10. In the first case, all staples No. 23 are suitable for this stapler, in the second case, only staples No. 23 with a leg height of 10 mm or less (6 mm and 8 mm). The number of staples loaded into the stapler depends on the magazine capacity of each specific model. Read more about staples in the article “Staples for a stapler”.

Pocket stapler – everything is clear from the name, small, compact.Used for stapling small quantities of sheets with small staples. Convenient to carry in your pocket, briefcase. Simple, cheap and not very reliable. Not suitable for heavy duty applications and for bonding thick bales of paper.

Desktop stapler is the most common. It is stable, thanks to the presence of a special base plate with an anti-slip coating. Therefore, it allows you to use more force, respectively, to fasten more sheets.

Powerful stapler – has a reinforced structure, extended arm-lever.

Staples up to 260 sheets. Often has a mechanism for removing bent staples. In most models, several types of staples can be used and the depth of bonding of the sheets can be recalculated using a fixing plate.

Initially, they were made all-metal, now combined staplers are popular, made of metal, rubber and plastic. The body and the mechanism are made of metal, and the overlay for the arm and the anti-slip base are made of plastic or rubber. Cheaper, lighter and more ergonomic.

But the main thing in the stapler is not the design, but a good high-quality spring-impact mechanism. Its device is simple. But it is important that there are no plastic parts in it. It is good if the stapler has a double staple feed mechanism or an anti-lock system.

The electric stapler has moved from the exotic category to the rare category. Typically in an office setting, this is a battery-powered desktop stapler.

The latest trend is the combination of an electric stapler and a hole punch in one device. Electric stapler Rapid 20E can be bought in Togliatti at OfficeKom

You can choose and buy a reliable stapler in Togliatti, Samara and Syzran in the OfficeCom online store.

    Staple removers

Staples for a stapler in Samara and Togliatti

Staples for stapler are divided into office and industrial.

Office staples are sold in packs of 500, 1000 and 2000. They are connected in single blocks of 40, 50 or more, depending on the manufacturer. The staples in the blocks are glued with a special compound. Good staples will not fly apart when the hardware unit is dropped from a low height.

But even if the block is scattered into several parts, it’s not scary. Just do not insert all parts of the block into the stapler magazine at once. In this case, the stapler mechanism can jam, especially in inexpensive models. Charge them as you go.

Staples are marked as follows. The caliber of the staple and the height of the leg are written on the box. For example: staple no. 24/6. 24 is a caliber.6 – the height of the staple in mm, i.e. 6 mm. Caliber is not measured in any unit. Just a certain conventional unit. The higher the leg height, the more sheets can be stapled. The thickness of the staples increases in proportion to the height of the staple.

The most common in offices staple No. 24 and staple No. 10 . You can buy stationery staples No. 24 and No. 10 in Togliatti and Samara in any stationery department.

    Staples # 21, # 23/6/8/10/13/15/17/20/23, # 26/6/8 and # 66/6/8 are also produced.The smallest caliber is at staple # 21. It is only 7 mm wide. Staple No. 10, 9 mm wide.

Steel wire is the material for the staples. The edges of the staples are pointed. Steel can be copper-plated, zinc-plated or nickel-plated. They are made to protect the metal from corrosion. This is important to consider if you store documents in cold rooms for a long time. Colored staples are also produced to simplify the marking of documents.

To choose the right staple bracket, you need to take into account the rule:

    – 2/3 of the length of the staple leg should be in the material, and 1/3 to hold it.

    – just steel staples are stronger than coated staples, so all staples with a leg height of 10 mm are made steel

    – for an electric stapler, use steel wire staples, then the stapler is guaranteed to provide the declared penetration capacity.

You can buy staples for the stapler of all calibers in the OfficeKom Togliatti online store.

Which printer is better to print ads for labeling

We understand the situation of our reader, from whom the advertising agency unexpectedly wanted to take more money.

I, an entrepreneur, am engaged in minor repairs of washing machines, refrigerators and other household appliances. I wanted to post advertisements about my services on information boards. On the phone at an advertising agency, they told me a price that was fine. But when I came to order ads, the girl said that small batches of ads are printed on paper on an inkjet printer. And on the street they will flow. You need to choose another option, where there will be more leaflets and you will also have to pay more.

Did the agency tell the truth or did they expect to cut extra money from a misunderstanding client?

    Vladimir, entrepreneur

    Ofsi answers:

Dear Vladimir, in this situation, the advertising agency did the right thing, warning about possible problems. It would be worse if they took money from you, and the ads from snow, rain or just dampness blurred and turned into an incomprehensible spot.

Advertising agencies use inkjet printers because they reproduce colors brighter and more accurately, and are suitable for quick printing of photos, magnets, stickers. But, as we wrote earlier, when printing on plain paper in inkjet printers, ink is sprayed onto the sheet and absorbed into the top layer. There is no fixer, so if moisture gets in, the image is blurred.

You need to print on a laser printer so that the paint is soldered to the surface and is not afraid of water.Small advertising agencies with such small orders may not have a laser printer. Because they don’t need him in their work. Leaflets with waterproof paint are printed on a risograph in large batches. What, in fact, you were told. Therefore, if you have a very limited advertising budget, it is better to order only the ad layout from an advertising agency. Then you can print wherever you have a laser printer – at your friends, in the library or somewhere else.

She’s got pistols! Educational program: how to hammer nails, hairpins, staples

Based on an article published in the joint issue of the series “Consumer” magazines.Source – master-forum.ru

A nailer, known as a nailer, or a nailer, is most often dealt with by specialists in certain fields. But outside them, few and little know about him. This tool is especially relevant in frame house building and during renovation . It is used by installers when installing doors and windows, assembling fences and pallets . How it can be useful to us in the carpentry workshop in the manufacture of furniture and interior objects , we will tell you with examples.Let’s start with general information about pistols.

According to the principle of power supply, the nailers are divided into battery, electric (network), pneumatic and gas.

In our workshop, pneumatic pistols are most actively used.

    • Trusty – combined nailer TBI-1855, stud nailer TP-0630MP.
    • Schneider – nailer SNG-SK 50, nailer PNG-PN 25.

They are compact and lightweight, but require a compressor and a dedicated hose to operate. After all, to hammer in a nail, the tool needs compressed air, which acts on the piston that ejects the nail. Typically, the compressors are heavy, volumetric, and most importantly, noisy. But recently we came across a compact and very (!) Quiet option – the Aerfast AC4504 compressor. By the way, we store it in a wooden box on wheels, assembled with a nail gun and glue (Fig. 1).

The second kind of gun in the workshop is the beloved cordless nailer .

    • Ryobi R18N18G – more weighty, but even girls use it without problems. Therefore, it is difficult to call it a minus (Fig. 2).

The accumulator lasts for a long time, which makes this gun indispensable for installation and work at height. But compared to pneumatics, the recoil from the battery version is stronger, and the nail mark is slightly more noticeable.

    • DeWALT DCN692P2 is a brushless nail gun that was recently tested in our workshop (Fig.3).

It has more power and dimensions than Ryobi, but they are close in weight – a little over 4 kg. The length of suitable nails is 50 – 90 mm.

The DeWALT model has two modes of operation – single and sequential, there is an adjustment of the driving depth and a blocker on the start button. On the body there are protective rubber pads. And in general, the pistol looks resistant to external factors. In cold weather, we have not yet used it, but according to the technical parameters, it remains fully operational at temperatures from -20 to +50 ° C.? The range of application of this gun is shifted more towards the frame housing construction.

    Consumables

According to the type of consumables, guns are divided into nail, hairpin and staple.

We most often work with with a nailer. But with a threaded rod is also in use: it is suitable for more delicate work , where you want to leave a minimum of marks on the surface. The fact is that the hairpin is several times thinner than a nail, moreover, it does not have a cap (although Trusty came out with a compact PT-630N with a micro nail in 2018).

Nails and hairpins come in different sizes (fig. 4). The sizes of nails are from 16 to 55 mm, the most common ones are 25 and 35 mm. The sizes of the studs are from 12 to 50 mm.

Staple guns are used mainly in the restoration and manufacture of upholstered furniture.

Assembly guns and their accessories differ in the type of material for which they are designed. There are specialized models for concrete and metal. But today we will pay attention to our main material – wood.

Obviously, the nail’s job is to attach one piece to another. And here I would like to make one important clarification: in the production of furniture, in most cases, the part holds not only the nail, but also the glue.

Without glue, there is a great chance that sooner or later that lath or that bottom will simply fall off. Yes, there is some load on the nail – it’s still metal, and it plays the role of a rod in the connection. But to a greater extent, he is responsible for temporary fixation – while the glue dries.

Of course, when the task is to temporarily fix a part, for example, a lid of a shipping box or an inset back to a cabinet, you can shoot without glue. But in other cases, we use glue at the junction of the parts, and only then we bang with nails or pins.

Many nailers have a clamping bracket on the base : until you press it against the material, you will not be able to pull the trigger. This protects against being shot into the air.

The hairpin can have a double trigger : first you need to pull it back a little, and then press the trigger (Fig. 5).

    Helpful hints
    • Before starting work calculate the required length of the nail or stud – for this, subtract a few millimeters from the total thickness of the fastened parts.
    • To prevent the nail from coming out of the material, hold the gun strictly perpendicular to .Balance left – right is easier to catch. More often than not, the tool is tilted strongly backwards by mistake so that the nails come out of the material from the front.
    • If you have a certain skill, if you want to enhance the effect of the action of the nail, shoot with a slight inclination to the plane . Then the nail will enter the mass not perpendicularly, but slightly at an angle. There will be less chances that the fasteners will fly back one day.
    • If you are shooting at the end of the plywood or close to the edge, hold the body of the gun along the sheet, not across the .Then, even if the tool is tilted slightly forward or backward, the nail will go along the plywood sheet and will not come out from the side.
    • If the nail does come out, use fine-nose pliers or thin-nose pliers (fig. 6). There is one trick here: you need to grab the tip of the nail with the outermost part of the jaws (not the base!) And swing it back and forth until it breaks at the base. If it is impossible to grasp the nail, the doboinik (fig. 7) and the hammer will help out.
    • Even if you have to hold on to the part and you are sure that the nail will not reach, keep your hands away from the nail entry point .
    • Use safety glasses .

What does the end result look like? From nails with a diameter of 0.9 × 1.2 mm , a small rectangular hole remains on the surface of the tree, approximately 1 × 2 mm . How deep the nail is inserted depends on the adjustment on the gun. This value can usually be adjusted.

The nail hole can be filled with a special putty for wood, choosing the color (for plywood we use “birch”, for pine – “pine”, they can be mixed). After drying, we grind off the excess putty with an orbital sander with abrasive 120 – 180.

If you set the gun to drive a nail deeper, and it barely hides in the material, check the compressor or battery: the gun clearly lacks power.

We will give examples of the use of neilers in the carpentry when working with furniture.

Assembly of packaging and auxiliary items

    This could be:

    • gift boxes (fig. 8, 9),
    • boxes for fragile items (vases, bottles, sculptures),
    • shipping containers for devices, musical instruments, equipment,
    • stretchers, screens and other auxiliary products for artists.

Usually for such purposes we use birch or coniferous plywood, solid pine, and for decorative purposes and for the purpose of processing resources – an old board, which we dissolve into lamellas and re-glue it into shields for boxes.

In the production of such items, we most often use a hairpin: the holes from the studs are minimal, barely noticeable.

Sheathing of walls or products with decorative panels – lamellas

In this case, the pistol becomes an indispensable tool. But it is worth considering important points – the material to which you are targeting wood panels, and the glue that you use.

For example, in our kitchen project, some of the plywood elements are the facades of the cabinets and the door to the next room, and some are decorative panels that create the feeling of a monolithic cube (Fig.ten). To fix the panels without visible fasteners, we first mounted a rough frame made of low grade plywood directly to the tongue-and-groove wall using self-tapping screws with dowels. Then the finishing layer of the panels was fixed to the roughing layer using a hairpin gun. In this case, it was critical that the trace from the fasteners remained minimal, since the panels were already varnished and it would be difficult to putty the marks from the gun.

Fixation of the surface from the front (finishing) side

This paragraph supplements the previous one: when we assemble a product from parts with a finish coating, then a hairpin or a nail gun will help to do this without particularly visible traces of fasteners.

Assembling complex shapes, including art objects

We are talking about working with plywood, most often with a thickness of 9 – 12 mm. This group includes objects of advertising, logos, sculptures consisting of complex shapes. Inside, such objects are usually hollow, but with stiffening ribs (Fig. 11, 12).

At the same time, we fasten the entire outer shell with PVA glue and fix it with a nail gun. Then we putty and grind the holes from the nails, so that they are not visible under the layer of paint.

    Upholstery with fabric

When working with furniture where there are upholstery elements: chairs, armchairs, sofas, headboards – we often use a staple gun. This can be both the manufacture of new furniture and the restoration of old ones (for example, the upholstery by the seat of a chair).

Here are some very illustrative examples from Alexandra Argunova from the Chronotop workshop.

In the chairs in Fig. 13, 14, pins are used to fix the transverse slats on the back of the chair, and from below they are screwed with screws.

Fig. 15, 16, 17 show chairs, the constriction of which is made using a staple.

Alexandra uses staples of the 53rd type with a length of 8, 10 or 12 mm (depending on the task). The straps on the frames are pulled with 12 mm brackets, and the main rough fabric on top of the foam rubber beats with 10 or 8 mm brackets.

So, all assembly guns, or naylers, differ from each other in purpose, and therefore, in configuration, equipment, cost. This means that when choosing them, one should be guided by the corresponding characteristics.

In frame housing construction, it may be important that the tool not only withstands a high load and is made of impact-resistant plastic, but also has frost resistance. And if you do not plan to purchase a compressor for your workshop, then a battery one will do instead of the pneumatic version. You can also work with him in the fields. True, the return to his hand will be stronger, and the weight will be more.

The ideal solution – choose your own nailer for different tasks. No wonder they say: there is no wrong tool – there is its misuse. Best of all, the technique performs exactly the task for which it was created and for which it is sharpened. And the quality of your product, the speed of work and pleasant impressions from the process directly depend on this.
