Unless you’ve been living under a rock recently, you’ve heard that Apple has eliminated the standard 3.5mm headphone jack from its most recent version of the iPhone, the iPhone 7, in an effort to help users go wireless. While this move seems logical, with more and more technology going wireless, it’s bound to inconvenience users who are attached to their wired headphones. Luckily, Apple is one step ahead and will ship the iPhone 7 with a lightning adaptor that will allow users to plug in their traditional headphones.

However, if you’re ready to follow Apple’s lead and ditch the wires, there are a number of fantastic wireless headphones on the market. Here are five great options that will give you phenomenal sound quality using a Bluetooth connection:

Price: $119.99

With 8-hour battery life and a minimalistic form factor, the Jabra MOVE Bluetooth headphones provide exceptional value for the price. These headphones deliver full sound and pair easily with Bluetooth enabled devices. They also offer a lightweight design that allows you to control calls and music right from the headset.

Price: $449.85

With classic design and world-class noise-cancelling technology, you really can’t go wrong with the Bose QuietComfort 35 wireless headphones. These headphones offer phenomenal sound quality and a whopping 20 hours of battery life. If you take calls on your phone, you’ll also find that the noise-rejecting dual microphone gives you clear calls even in the noisiest environments.

These headphones re both Bluetooth and NFC enabled so you can connect to a wide variety of devices. The Bose Connect app also lets you manage your paired devices.

Price: $329.23

With 12-hour battery life and on-ear controls, Beats by Dr. Dre Solo2 wireless headphones are a great choice. While Beats headphones have historically delivered a bass-heavy sound profile, the Solo2 headphones offer balanced sound. They’re also foldable, making them perfect for students and anyone on the move.

Price: $219.76

If you prefer an in-ear form factor, the Bose SoundSport wireless earphones are a fantastic choice. When it comes to sound quality and design, these earphones won’t disappoint. They’re the perfect pair of earphones for even the most intense workouts, thanks to their StayHear+ tips and sweat-resistant design. When it comes to battery life, they’ll last you about 6 to 7 hours.

Price: $219.22

Featuring a similar price and battery life, the Beats Powerbeats2 are also a great choice if you’re looking for a set of wireless earphones Like the Bose SoundSport, they’re also water and sweat-resistant. However, when it comes to fit and design, the Powerbeats2 feature a clip that wraps around the user’s ear. This clip offers a comfortable fit, while keeping the earphones in place. These earphones also offer a bit of a different sound profile with more pronounced lows.

Phone Headsets – Environment, Health and Safety

You Need a Phone Headset if You

  • Use the phone often during daily work (1 hour or more a day)
  • Have a position where frequent or long phone calls are a requirement
  • Cradle the phone while talking so that you can use your hands to write or type
  • The phone cannot be located within an easy arm’s reach

Why are They Necessary?

  • When the “handsfree” option cannot be used in certain situations
  • Such sustained and frequent non-neutral postures can create muscle fatigue and discomfort
  • Helps to eliminate the need for holding the phone up to the ear or tilting the head to the side to cradle the phone between head and shoulder
  • When the phone is located farther away, a repeated extreme reach is created

Where Should it Be Located?

  • The base unit and phone should be as close to the user as possible (less than 24 inches) while the headset is on your head

Which One Should I Get?

  • If there is no need to use your phone away from your desk, then a corded headset will work
  • If you are often away from your desk, a mobile/cordless headset will work
  • If you are often away from your desk and need to transfer calls, a mobile/cordless keypad based headset system (with line management capabilities) will work

Black Friday 2020: The best deals still available at Amazon, Best Buy, Staples, Walmart and more

While many of the biggest Black Friday deals have ended there are still a number of steals to be had. The actual day has passed, but many of these Black Friday discounts continue and will simply be re-dubbed Cyber Monday sales on Nov. 30.

Inventory issues have been a challenge for online holiday shoppers, and many ship dates are now set well into January, but you should still take the plunge: Sometimes, especially on Amazon, those shipping dates get moved up once inventory adjusts in subsequent days.

We’ve pulled together some of our favorite deals, most of which were still in stock at Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, Newegg and other stores at the time of this writing. While some of the best AirPods Pro, Oculus Quest and Apple Watch deals have passed, you can still find a $50 Google Nest Hub, a $90 AOC desktop monitor and some pretty good discounts on Wyze smart-home gear. Check the latest additions, and earlier deals still available, in the list below.

In the meantime, start your engines for Cyber Monday. Stores have begun to pivot their sales toward that event. We’ll see more of the same, sure, but also a smattering of new deals. Here’s our roundup of the best Cyber Monday sales coming soon.

Read more: Black Friday 2020 ad scans

Note we’re keeping a few expired and sold-out items in the list below because we think they might return at some point. Keep this post bookmarked and check it often for updates.

Best Black Friday 2020 deals available now

As noted above, these deals are going fast. We’re doing our best to keep the listings updated, but note that any item here may sell out without warning.

Even Chromebooks don’t come much cheaper than this Lenovo Flex 3. Regularly $279, you can now save $100 on this two-in-one that’s powered by a MediaTek MT8173C processor, 4GB RAM and 32GB of storage. And because this is a convertible, the 1,366×768-pixel HD IPS display is a touchscreen.

The Kindle Oasis is the ebook reader with Amazon’s biggest display. It usually sells for $250, but is now only $175. It’s equipped with 8GB RAM and the 7-inch Paperwhite display is full waterproof.

Tile usually makes you buy a multipack in order to get a decent discount. This is one of the best deals on record for a single tracker — which just happens to be one of my favorite products. Add it to your keychain, then use the Tile app when those keys go missing. Just as valuable, double-press the Tile button and it rings your phone (even when set to silent).

All four colors of the all-new Fire HD 8 are available for $55. It features an 8-inch display, naturally, USB-C connectivity and 32GB of storage. You can expect to get as much as 12 hours of battery life between charges.

Chris Monroe/CNET

You can get the Amazon Echo Show 5 for half-off right now. the 5.5-inch display can display YouTube videos, recipes and video chats, and it’s small enough that you can fit it in places the Echo Show 8 is a little too cumbersome for.

Bio Bidet

This time last year you wouldn’t have thought that Black Friday would be the time to buy a bidet, but here we are. The Bio Bidet Bliss BB2000 replaces your existing seat and delivers multiple cleaning modes, a heated seat, a slow-closing lid, a massage mode and more. Of course, it also includes a remote control.

This is actually one of several Black Friday deals currently running at Wyze. Others include 20% off the Wyze Cam Pan, the Wyze Cam v2 and a free Keypad with the purchase of a Wyze Lock.

Cam Plus is the company’s premium cloud service, offering unlimited video storage and motion alerts, no cooldown requirement between video captures, face- and person-detection and lots more. It’s absolutely worth it if you’re running one or more Wyze Cams (which you will be with this giveaway).

The Wyze Cam v3 is the latest version of the camera. It’s a winner.

Read our Wyze Cam v3 review.

Patrick Holland/CNET

Visible, which runs on Verizon’s network, is sweetening its iPhone 12 deals: When you buy an iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12 Pro or iPhone 12 Pro Max, you’ll get a free pair of AirPods Pro. Those are worth $249 — though as you’ll see below, they’re currently on sale for $170.

What’s more, although the phones themselves are priced a few dollars higher than what Apple charges, you get a fairly substantial rebate (in the form of a prepaid Mastercard): $100 for the Mini, $150 for the iPhone 12 and Pro, $200 for the Pro Max.

Meanwhile, Visible charges a flat rate of $40 a month for unlimited service, or you can take advantage of its Party Pay option for rates as low as $25.

Tyler Lizenby/CNET

With its 7-inch touchscreen, the Nest Hub offers more viewable area than the 5. 5-inch Echo Show 5 (which is currently on sale for $45). But the real question is whether you want Google Assistant running the smart show in your house instead of Alexa. If the answer is yes, this is an outstanding deal.

Alas, Walmart’s slightly better deal, which included $20 in Vudu credit, has expired.

Read our Google Nest Hub review.

Chris Monroe/CNET

The Echo Show 8 is simply a larger version of the Echo Show 5, but that makes it a better candidate for the kitchen and other places you might prefer a bigger display. (It’s definitely preferable for video calls.) This matches the lowest price on record for this model.

Read our Echo Show 8 review.

Apple’s new flagship watch just got a solid discount ahead of Black Friday — the biggest so far, in fact. That price is good only for certain colors, however, and those have been changing day to day. Right now, for example, the Product Red and gold aluminum versions are $330; the other colors are $379. But it was the other way around yesterday, so it’s hard to be certain what you’ll find.

Read our Apple Watch Series 6 review.

Expand your desktop workspace with this super slim 1080p monitor, which features VGA and HDMI inputs and comes with a three-year warranty. If that model sells out, there’s also an HP V24i for $90, though it has only a one-year warranty.

Tytan Tiles

Need a gift for a youngster? This kit consists of magnetic building blocks in a variety of shapes and sizes, so they’re great even for toddlers (but also fun for just about any age). At $20, this is around $10 less than similar kits you’ll see elsewhere.

Want more tiles? There’s an 80-piece set for $30 and a 120-piece set for $40. All three come with a drawstring bag and a little car with wheels.

Óscar Gutiérrez/CNET

Amazon, Walmart, Costco and other stores had the AirPods at $99 earlier this month — the lowest price on record — but for the moment that deal is gone. In its place: $110 AirPods on Amazon, also “for the moment.”

Jackbox Games

Having a small, masked gathering this weekend? Jackbox party games are a blast. They’re on sale for up to 50% off on PC platforms like Steam and Fanatical. Just plug your laptop into the TV, then gather everyone around with their phones and tablets. I’m a huge fan of Quiplash, but there are lots of other great titles as well. Buy a Party Pack for maximum savings.

David Carnoy/CNET

Insanely popular with runners, Aftershokz headphones rarely go on sale. This price is the lowest I’ve seen for the Aeropex, the current flagship of the lineup. Why the fuss over these ‘phones? Their bone-conduction design lets you enjoy your tunes and podcasts while still hearing the sounds around you (like, say, oncoming traffic).

There’s an even cheaper option: the Aftershokz OpenMove for $80 (save $20), also the lowest price on record.

It may be two years old, but the Roku Premiere is still an excellent streamer. It has apps for pretty much every streaming service under the sun, and it slings them all at 4K. The latest version supports HDR, too. Whether there’s a “dumb” TV you’re looking to make smart or an old Roku that’s in need of replacing, it’s hard to beat this all-time-low price.

Note that the Roku Ultra 2020 is on sale for $70, with extra features like Bluetooth streaming and a remote with headphone jack. You can also get the Roku Streambar for $100.

Read our Roku Premiere review.

Chris Monroe/CNET

It’s the first-ever sale on Amazon’s new version of the mid-range Echo, which arrives with a new HomePod Mini-like orb shape (one that extends to the new Echo Dot as well — and that’s on sale for $29). We liked the improved sound quality and powerful bass in this version.

Read our Amazon Echo review.

As we roll into winter, I’m already missing my garden — especially the herbs I grow to make homemade chermoula (my best discovery of 2019).

LED-powered indoor gardens to the rescue! There are lots of these on the market right now, some pretty pricey. This is an unusually good deal on the AeroGarden Harvest Elite Slim, which supports up to six seed pods and comes with a starter heirloom-salad seed kit.

Sarah Tew/CNET

Normally $30, the new-for-2020 Fire Stick Lite continues to see a solid discount ahead of Black Friday. This entry-level streamer delivers 1080p video with HDR support (but not 4K). The big missing apps are HBO Max and Peacock (for now), but the Alexa-powered voice remote is top-notch.

Kojima Productions

Score a boxed copy of one of 2019’s biggest (and weirdest) games for the lowest price ever. We still don’t understand what “stranding” is (just sounds like a misspelled word), but at least you don’t have to pay $60 to experience it for yourself. Read our Death Stranding review.

Best Buy

TCL is best known for its Roku TVs, and we like the Roku smart TV system better than the Android TV version in this television, but for this price you can just buy a Roku Streaming Stick Plus, attach it to this TV and still come out ahead. Aside from its smarts we expect this 4-Series TV to perform “good enough,” just like the Roku equivalent.

This TV was previously $30 less, and may get there again. So although $120 is a solid discount, you might want to wait and see if the better deal returns.

This is only the third time this kit has been priced this low. It’s an insanely popular item, as it’s great not only for checking your ancestry, but also for identifying potentially serious health issues. Makes a great gift, too.

One of several cookers on sale at Kohl’s, this one seems a particularly great deal on an item every kitchen needs. Score the beloved Crock-Pot for just $25.50 with promo code THANKS. This model has lid clamps for easier travel.

Take note that shipping isn’t free, however, unless your cart hits $75. But you can pick it up in-store and bypass shipping altogether.

Instant Pot

These days, a multicooker is an essential kitchen tool, like a toaster oven or microwave. This Instant Pot Viva can get you in the multicooker business for half price: $49 buys you a nine-in-one gadget that works as a pressure cooker, slow cooker, rice cooker, yogurt maker, sous vide, cake maker and more. It has a 6-quart capacity and comes with 15 preset programs for recipes that include soups, beans, rice, ribs and eggs.

If ever there was a time to tune out the world, it’s now. (Because, you know, election, pandemic, murder hornets…) Sure, there are newer over-the-ear noise-canceling cans from Sony and even Bose, but this perennial favorite was great when it came out and it’s still great now — especially at this price, which rivals the lowest we’ve seen. Original list price: $350.

Read our Bose QuietComfort 35 II review.

You don’t have to spend hundreds to add some automation to your house cleaning. The Eufy RoboVac 25C can be controlled via a mobile app or by voice with Alexa and Google Home. It’s smart enough to differentiate between floors and carpet and can avoid stairs automatically.

Finally! We’ve been hoping for a reduction on the rarely discounted Mavic Mini, which is a simply fantastic personal drone. The current Amazon deal has you taking an extra 20% off when the item is in your cart. There’s also the Fly More Combo, which you can grab for $316 (a $79 savings).

Yes, there’s now a Mavic Mini 2, but it starts at $449. Is it worth the extra cash? That’s your call, but the original is pretty sweet.

Best Buy is also running a sale on the DJI Mavic Mini and you can buy it direct from DJI as well (with a free canvas bag thrown in for good measure).

Vanessa Hand Orellana/CNET

New for 2020, the Apple Watch SE is the middle child of the Apple Watch lineup. It’s got the same basic design as the Series 6, but lacks that model’s always-on display, ECG functionality and oxygen saturation measurements.

The 40mm and 44mm models run $279 and $309 at the Apple Store — and have been marked as low as $229 and $259 during previous early Black Friday sales. Those prices appear to be holding right now, but the watch won’t be back in stock on Amazon until after the new year. If you’re looking for a holiday gift, this one might not be it.

Read our Apple Watch SE review.

CNET has dubbed the Fitbit Charge 4 the best all-around fitness tracker of 2020 for its low price, slim design, fashionable and functional straps and solid set of features, including GPS and sleep tracking.

While it doesn’t have a full-color display like most smartwatches, the small design makes it comfortable to wear 24/7, and the battery life lasts about four days, or seven if you turn off GPS. If you’re looking to get a fitness tracker for someone who doesn’t already wear one, this is a great buy. Read our Fitbit Charge 4 review.

Another option: Kohl’s also has the Fitbit Charge for $100, but it comes with $30 in Kohl’s Cash to spend on a subsequent purchase. Assuming you can make use of that, it’s definitely the better deal.

Need some weights to round out your home gym? Use promo code Y2QERXMF to knock $124 off the regular price of this dumbbell set, which uses thread nuts to let you quickly and easily change the weight.

Here’s the head-scratching part: The listing says 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100 pounds, but at least one photo shows a 1.25kg plate, which is equivalent to just 2.75 pounds. Two of those and you’d have just over five pounds on a single dumbbell.

Even so, it’s everything you need for arm, shoulder and chest workouts, so I won’t quibble about the curious numbers.

Lenovo’s premium two-in-one, the Yoga C940, boasts a sturdy and sleek all-metal design and a touch display that can rotate 360 degrees into tablet mode. It includes an active pen and can also instantly wake from sleep, one of the phone-like features it received courtesy of Intel’s Project Athena.

This configuration features a 14-inch display with a 4K resolution powered by a 10th-gen Core i7 CPU, 16GB of RAM and 512GB SSD with 32GB of superfast Optane memory. A similarly configured Yoga C40 on Lenovo’s site works out to $1,650, so this deal is even better than it looks. And it already looked good.

Best Buy

A pressure cooker is one of the most versatile tools you can add to your kitchen, and at this price it’s one of the most affordable. Insignia’s model appears nearly identical to the equivalent Instant Pot, offering 10 preset modes for things like rice, meat, soup and even cake. It features a delayed-start option, an automatic keep-warm function and a dishwasher-safe nonstick pot.

Angela Lang/CNET

AirPods Pro are all about the noise cancellation: These in-ear buds block outside noise better than just about any other product on the market. They’re also great for calls and offer an excellent transparency mode. Like to work out? The AirPods Pro earbuds are sweat-resistant. Standard AirPods are not. Read our AirPods Pro review.

Walmart had them for an all-time-low $169 yesterday, but quickly sold out. Amazon is currently offering a (near) price match at $170, though they’re “temporarily out of stock.” Thankfully, you can still get your order in at $170, but delivery is TBD.

And here’s a pro tip: Use your Amazon Prime Rewards Visa card to get 5% back on this purchase. Don’t have that card? If you’re a Prime subscriber, grab it and score a $100 Amazon gift card.

Read more: The best Black Friday AirPods deals

Pretty straightforward: Add this $100 gift card to your cart, apply promo code 23BKFCYMB63, check out for $88. (Note that you need a Newegg account in order to use this or any other code.) The card is delivered electronically.

Scott Stein/CNET

The new Oculus VR headset is among my favorite products of 2020. Deals are all but impossible to come by; just finding it in stock is a challenge. So if you’re thinking of getting one, don’t miss this Newegg offer, which includes a $15 Newegg gift card (delivered electronically after your purchase).

How great is the Quest 2? CNET’s Scott Stein thinks you should skip buying a new Xbox or PlayStation and get this instead. To learn more, read his Oculus Quest 2 review.

Here’s a solid deal on a spacious laptop, one that features a 14-inch screen, 4GB of RAM, 32GB of onboard storage and eight-hour battery life. My only reservation is with the 1,366×768-pixel screen, which is a little on the low-res side. But for students doing homework, Zoom meetings and the like, it’s fine.

What you need to know about Black Friday 2020

Black Friday 2020 is shaping up to be a very different kind of shopping experience than any holiday shopping weekend in recent memory. With ongoing inventory issues due to the extended global pandemic — not to mention the need for retailers to maintain a safe environment for customers and employees — it’s likely that there will be no throngs of expectant customers lining up for hours ahead of massive doorbuster sales. In addition, the retailers listed below require customers to wear face coverings:

When is a telephone receiver bad?

Communication, and in particular talking on the phone, in the modern world takes up most of the working time. Few people think about how many reserves are hidden in the banal use of a telephone receiver or cell phone.

First, the handset of an ordinary desk phone literally binds to itself. If during a call you need to find some data in a computer or in papers, then you have to put the receiver aside to free your hands. This is a waste of time and unnecessary costs for telephone calls.

Secondly, when using an ordinary telephone receiver or cell phone, it is very difficult to receive information, because it is extremely difficult to hold the receiver and simultaneously enter data, for example, into a computer. Therefore, often during a conversation, a person simply makes an operational note on a cheat sheet, and then enters it into a computer. This is a double, extra work that takes time and effort, reduces attention.

Third, the use of conventional telephones is inconvenient from a physiological point of view. To combine a conversation with work with his hands, the person presses the receiver with his ear to his shoulder. If this procedure has to be repeated many times throughout the working day, then discomfort in the neck area, and subsequently problems with the spine, are guaranteed. The consequence is increased fatigue and fatigue, decreased productivity and poor health.

Thus, conventional telephones are unhealthy, inconvenient and ineffective when people talk on the phone a lot.

How to do well?

To simplify and significantly increase the efficiency of working with the telephone, special equipment – telephone headsets – allows. Today they are actively used by both companies and people working from home.

Telephone headset for permanent use, in general, akin to the well-known Bluetooth headsets for cell phones. However, both in design and in the set of tasks to be solved, these headsets stand apart from their Bluetooth counterparts.

A telephone headset is a structure consisting of three main elements: headphones, microphone and headband. There are various designs of headsets: it can be a wired or wireless system with one or two headphones, a headset for a wired or DECT desk phone, and, finally, a system for voice communication via a computer (for the same SKYPE).In some cases, instead of a headband, a variety of hooks, staples and arcs are used to attach the headphones and microphone of the headset behind the ear or around the neck in order to make the headset less visible.

Which headset is better?

Manufacturers offer a wide range of telephone headsets. All models can be divided into two large groups: wired and wireless headsets. However, such a classification is not complete enough, and therefore, within each group, headsets should be distinguished for different purposes: professional models and general-purpose headsets.

Corded headsets.

The classic solution, when the headset is connected to the device with a cable, has its indisputable advantages. Firstly, it is very reliable, because the performance of the device does not depend on the condition of the batteries, or on the distance, or on anything else except the condition of the cable. Secondly, it is noticeably cheaper than wireless solutions of the same purpose.Thirdly, wired headsets are much easier to use: they do not require any settings, programming, recharging, software updates – they are stable and can work forever if handled carefully.

Professional corded headsets.

The most reliable corded headsets are professional solutions . These models are most often used in contact centers and other organizations and departments, whose personnel constantly work with the telephone and computer. Such headsets are characterized by high mechanical reliability and can be used 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Professional headsets are solutions with increased mechanical strength and proven ergonomics. In addition, professional headsets are equipped with a dedicated QD (Quick Disconnect) connector. This jack allows you to repeatedly disconnect and reconnect your headset to your voice equipment. The detachable connection allows, firstly, to use several headsets at one workplace, for example, individual headsets from different operators, and, secondly, the connector allows you to move away from the workplace without removing the headset. The second is very important if you have to leave often: it is much easier to unfasten the connector than to remove / put on the headset. It should be added that disconnecting the headset does not interrupt the connection – after returning and connecting the headset, you can continue the conversation.

Professional headsets are connected not only to specialized voice communication equipment (for example, an operator’s workstation in a contact center), but also to ordinary desk phones, directly to the telephone line and to the USB port of a computer. For this, special devices are used – adapters. The adapter design includes various control and processing elements: headphone volume control, microphone sensitivity level, microphone switch (Mute), handset / headset switch, acoustic overload and line noise suppressor.

General purpose corded headsets

This subgroup is quite diverse. Over the years, manufacturers have come up with a large number of solutions. There are miniature telephones that have a telephone headset instead of a tube. A very compact device that takes up minimal space on the table and connects to the line like a regular telephone.

There are many varieties of computer headsets.Among them there are models with analog connection (two 3.5 mm jacks: microphone and headphones) and there are models with a built-in digital adapter for connecting to a USB port. In addition, computer headsets may have other design differences. For example, multimedia solutions are models with pronounced “musical” capabilities, which are equally suitable for listening to voice, music or other audio content.

A special place in the subgroup of general-purpose wired headsets is occupied by the so-called “gaming” headsets. In such models, headphones of an open and semi-open design are used, which do not isolate the player from external sounds, which is important in team games.

Wireless headsets.

A separate group of headsets that provide the maximum level of comfort for a telephone conversation are wireless headsets. Only a wireless headset truly gives you complete freedom of action.Using such a headset, you will be always ready to answer a call without being tied to a phone or computer by wires. You can keep going about your business during the phone call itself, without limiting your movement by the length of the cable.

Bluetooth headsets for cell phones are well known to all. There is no need to further elaborate on these accessories. Here we will consider universal solutions suitable for long-term everyday use in business or at home.

As with wired headsets, wireless systems connect to a wired or radio desk phone, computer, and cell phone. Moreover, for communication with the device, the DECT and Bluetooth radio standards are used. It should be noted that the communication range for DECT is about 100 m (line of sight), and for Bluetooth – 10 m.

Wireless headsets: DECT vs Bluetooth .

Choosing between these two standards, you need to consider two parameters: communication range and the ability to work with a cell phone. DECT-based solutions are much more “long-range”, but a little more cumbersome, and also quite demanding on the conditions of the radio signal when it comes to maximum communication distances.

As for Bluetooth systems, they are a little more compact, do not require any additional means to connect to a computer with built-in Bluetooth support.

The main advantage of Bluetooth headsets is that they can be used not only with a desktop phone and / or computer, but also with a cell phone. The technology multipoint or “ one headset – two devices” is responsible for this. If the headset supports the multipoint , then with the same headset you can talk on your cell phone, desk phone, or computer. Some models provide simultaneous communication on all these channels (conference).

For the sake of fairness, it should be noted that recently some DECT business-class solutions are equipped with Bluetooth support and just for communication with a mobile phone. But this is already a sign that in the not too distant future, all wireless headsets will become the same in terms of functionality.

Wireless Headsets: Connect to Desk Phone

A natural feature of wireless headsets is that they “cannot” pick up the phone. In order to answer a call from a headset, while being at a distance from the phone, a small electro-mechanical device is used – an elevator, which is attached to the device and lifts the handset above the lever. The command to pick up / hang up the phone is issued to the elevator by pressing a button on the headset.

Otherwise, connecting the headset to a desktop device does not present any difficulties. A special device, the headset base, connects to the phone instead of the handset, and the handset connects to the base. For switching, only the standard jack (socket) of the telephone is used, where the handset is connected. Almost any modern telephone has such a socket. The elevator is also connected to the base.

All of this together works like this: to answer a call, you need to press a button on the headset, the elevator will pick up the phone and the connection between the headset and the phone will be established. By next pressing the same button, the elevator will lower the handset on the hook – the call will end.For an outgoing call, you need to “pick up” the handset in the same way and dial the number on the device. You can switch to using the handset at any time.

Wireless headsets: PC connection

The most important communication channel of our time is voice and video communication via the Internet. Apart from IP phones and specialized terminals, the most democratic and affordable tool for this is a computer.

A USB interface is used to connect to a computer in modern wireless headsets. If the headset comes with a base (base unit), then the base is connected to the computer (with a cable to the USB port). There are wireless headsets without a base unit, usually Bluetooth headsets. Then the set with the headset comes with a USB Bluetooth adapter – a small device resembling a flash drive. Then the adapter is connected to the computer. In both cases, the headset communicates with the base or adapter via radio (Bluetooth). With respect to the operating system, the headset acts as an audio device. The appropriate drivers are usually installed automatically the first time you plug in the adapter or base.

In general, communicating with a computer using a wireless headset is very convenient. However, there is currently one unpleasant feature. If we are talking about free softphones, then not all of them support the remote call acceptance mode – the ability to answer a call by pressing a button on the headset, and not a key on the keyboard (or by clicking the mouse). It should be noted that the most popular free Internet telephony program Skype supports this mode.

And the last thing about wireless headsets and a computer. Not every softphone is able to notify its “owner” with a loud signal about an incoming call. Those. if a headset is installed as an audio device for a softphone, then the call signal goes there too – to the headset, and this is not always convenient; It is convenient when the signal is sent to the computer speakers (built-in for laptops or external for desktops) and you can hear it well, even if you move away from the computer.

At the end of the review, it should be noted that choosing a headset is no more difficult than choosing a telephone. Those. anyone can dial the number, but not everyone is interested in using other functions. It is the same with a headset: putting on and talking is easy, but to choose, connect, set up … this will require some skill or at least know where to go for help. And here, just as opportune, information and specialists of the plantro resource are at your

90,000 Mpow Cheetah. Overview of a Bluetooth headset.

Date of publication: before the first sound revolution

Rumor has it that the Mpow brand is quite popular in the domestic market of China. Whether this is really so, I don’t know, but after studying Chinese online stores and the Aliexpress platform, it turned out that the products of this company are represented by a fairly serious number of different models of wireless headsets.I considered this sufficient circumstantial evidence of the above statement and ordered a model Mpow Cheetah for trial. This idea cost me $ 22, I bought it in the GearBest store.

Packaging and equipment

A box made of thick cardboard with a lid equipped with magnets looks pretty decent. Printing is not minimalistic, but it is not devoid of taste.Even the metallized name of the brand does not look like a gypsy, but harmoniously complements the others, in the correct colors, inscriptions and images. I would not call the packaging absolutely stylish, but the “basement”, which sometimes even serious manufacturers sin, is not about it either.

Together with the Mpow Cheetah headset itself, there is an instruction manual, a microUSB cable for charging, as well as two pairs of additional silicone tips of different sizes and an unusual yellow color.I have not had such attachments yet, so I am infinitely satisfied.

Design, materials and workmanship

The Mpow Cheetah headset is positioned as a sporty one, and this “sportiness” is expressed not in the recommended over-the-ear method of wearing and special silicone clips on the wires, but in each individual design element and in the entire concept of the model as a whole. The solution is not unique, but now it is quite common. Personally, I first encountered this on my Sony NWZ-273S player, which I purchased for swimming, as it is waterproof.Large plastic headphone cases are interconnected by a limitedly flexible and rigid “wire”, which does not hang limply under the influence of gravity, it keeps the given shape and participates in fixing the entire structure under the back of the user’s head. I personally like this design much more than others.

The materials used in the manufacture of Mpow Cheetah are of high quality, all plastic surfaces, except for the “wire”, are covered with soft touch. The assembly is neat, without gaps and dangling elements. Everything is done no worse than on the aforementioned player from Sony, the headset gives the impression of a serious product of a reputable company.

You need to understand that it will not work to achieve a perfect fit and forget fit from a headset of this type. Here you have to look for a compromise between secure fixation of the gadget on the head and discomfort, because when playing sports, the forces trying to rip the headset off the user’s head are very significant. Therefore, the Mpow Cheetah crushes, but very moderately, and even a long workout is tolerated in this model quite easily. In return, we get a guarantee of keeping the headset in your ears even during serious activity, and this is great. Believe me, nothing is more annoying during a workout than headphones constantly falling out of your ears, especially if you are wearing boxing gloves.

It may not be possible to put the headphones on the first time, but you just need to understand how to do it correctly once and the problem will disappear in the future.

Microphone and remote

Everything is normal here – the microphone is of sufficient quality, the remote control buttons functionally repeat other control units of Bluetooth headsets, pressing is accompanied by a tangible click and is worked out confidently.

Connectivity, connectivity and battery

There are absolutely no problems with pairing. Mpow Cheetah is detected by playback devices faster than any other Bluetooth gadget I own.I will call this connection speed “instant”.

Communication keeps confidently at a distance even more than the declared 10 meters within the line of sight, no “stuttering” or other failures can be detected.

The battery charge lasts for 5 hours of listening to music. With the declared 8 hours, the manufacturer was clearly cheating, but personally this is enough for me – I do not train for more than 2 hours.

As with the Ausdom M05, the sound of the Mpow Cheetah is more than decent.Yes, the best examples of wired headphones replay this model, but this is a completely different type of device, which has completely different tasks. The important thing here is the absence of a constraining movement of the wire. The ideal sound has not yet been achieved, but the difference is not so global as to give up the advantage mentioned in the previous sentence. By the way, the advanced AptX technology is used here.

There is a slight bias towards the bass, but these headphones cannot be called unambiguously “dark”.The bass itself is well defined, it has small “tails” that slightly blur the bottom, and do not affect the middle and high frequencies in any way.

The mids are quite dense, the energy is present, but the sound’s penetrating power is a little lacking – I would like to hear sharper “saws”. But the sidechain pull-ups of the Mpow Cheetah headphones turn out to be wonderful, the music “rocks”.

I must admit that the high frequencies are weak, but this is not a complete fiasco, I just heard better and therefore find fault. They are not “liquid” and not “discharged”, rather they are not endowed with ringing “air” – this is a warm spring afternoon filled with smells, and not an autumn morning with frost on the wilting grass.

In general, the headset produces a good, sporty sound. Under a heavy barbell, for me personally, I’m not up to the perfect detail and dizzyingly deep scene, I need “quality”, pressure, and this is in abundance in the Mpow Cheetah headset.

A good wireless headset for sports.Comfortable fit, secure fit, decent “rocking” and at the same time balanced sound, reliable connection, sufficient battery life, pleases as a headset. Recommend.

P.S. The first batch of Bluetooth headsets is over. Not all models turned out to be of the same quality, but for myself I decided that the times of poor sound without wires had already passed. Yes, the sound of none of the three reviewed models can not be called outstanding, but in two cases I was frankly pleased with it.I am inclined to believe that if you equip decent wireless headsets with good emitters, then Bluetooth will not prevent them from sounding even better. I am hatching plans for an experiment.

Package & Design Razer Barracuda X

Gaming device made by Razer can be identified from afar – by the box in black and green colors. On the front part there are images of headphones and a complete dongle, on the back – technical specifications and information about the features: ergonomic design, Razer Triforce speakers, multi-platform connection, detachable microphone.

The box is small, and it is surprising how the manufacturer managed to pack so many items in it: the Razer Barracuda X headphones themselves, a microphone, a dongle for wireless connection, a bunch of cables (3.5 mm with 4-pole connectors for wired connection, USB-C for charging, USB-A / USB-C adapter), as well as an instruction manual and a set of stickers.Everything is neatly packed in a cardboard box and packed in separate eco-friendly polyethylene pockets – as we’ve mentioned many times, Razer is environmentally conscious.

The original Razer Barracuda had a distinct gaming design – and even had backlighting. With the Barracuda X, the story is a little different: this model combines the comfort of gaming headsets and fashion design, and looks much more expensive than the hundred dollars that the manufacturer asks for it. Outwardly, it is very similar to the Razer Opus, but differs from the mobile headset by the presence of fabric ear cushions with memory effect (which are more convenient for long gatherings at the PC or console), a connected microphone and some other elements.

This is a very compact device, and it looks much more presentable than those bulky headsets the size of a watermelon. That said, it has a very comfortable fit, but it took me a couple of days to adjust the fairly strong hold-down. For the convenience of the user, a soft insert is provided on the inside of the headband, the height of the headband is adjusted using pull-out brackets, and the cups rotate around a vertical axis by 90 ° to one side and somewhere by 30 ° to the other.

In a private presentation of the headset, we were told that Razer’s engineers used their years of experience to create a versatile device with an emphasis on style and comfort, equally comfortable indoors and outdoors. The novelty has undergone a lengthy design process, during which many options have been implemented to customize the headset for the perfect fit.

The Razer Barracuda X has no backlighting, and of the decorative elements there is only the brand name on the headband and subtle logos in the form of intertwined snakes on both cups. All controls are located on the left cup: a microphone jack, a USB-C port for charging, a 3.5 mm wired jack, an operation indicator, a power key (and music tracks control), a volume cogwheel and a microphone on / off key.

It is impossible not to pay attention to how light the headset is. It’s lighter than the recent Razer Kraken V3 X, which I’ve found to be the most comfortable we’ve ever used. Well, now that title goes to the 250g Barracuda X.

The gooseneck microphone can be detached if not required. This is the Razer HyperClear Cardioid cardioid microphone, which, according to the manufacturer, should provide excellent voice isolation with suppression of third-party noise. A pop filter is provided to damp sound interference.

Cables for wiring are flexible, but without a fabric braid – a material similar to rubber is used instead.

The last item in the headset kit is a USB-C dongle for wireless radio connection. If your PC or console does not have such a port, you can use the supplied adapter cable that connects to USB-A.

There is one unpleasant feature associated with the dongle: if you plug it into the USB-C port on the front of the PlayStation 5, due to its shape, it blocks the second USB port located above it.Likewise, it can close the ports on the back of the motherboard. In my opinion, it was worth making the dongle elongated in length, not in width.

In fact, this form of the transmitter is only good for connecting to a smartphone and Switch. But at the same time, it occupies the only USB-C port of the mobile device.

Connecting and configuring Razer Barracuda X

The headset is compatible with PC, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch consoles (with Xbox with wired connection), as well as Android. It can be connected via 2.4 GHz radio and 3.5 mm cable; in the second case, a connector is required to use the microphone. There is no Bluetooth in this model.

Razer Barracuda X does not register with Razer Synapse software and requires no additional applications to be installed – full plug and play. The connection status is signaled by the LED on the headphones: it lights up blue when pairing is established and blinks blue when the headset is looking for a dongle. If the device’s charge level drops to 30%, the diode will turn red, and when the charge is less than 10%, it will blink frequently.

You can register your device on the Razer website and download the 7.1 Surround Sound app to enable seven-channel audio. The offer is only valid for Windows 10. However, in my opinion, the application is not very useful – I do not feel a difference in sound when using 7.1 Surround Sound and the standard sound card driver of my PC.

Controlling the headset is intuitive: with the assignment of the power and mute keys, as well as the volume wheel, anyone can figure it out.In the instruction manual, you can see additional commands: a single press of the power button will stop or start a music track, a double press will turn on the next track, and a triple press will return to the previous track.

Impressions of using the Razer Barracuda X

You don’t expect outstanding sound from a gaming headset when listening to music – for example, the recently visited Razer Kraken V3 X did a poor job at revealing music tracks. The Razer Barracuda X has everything much better in this regard: the headphones surprised me with unexpectedly clear and powerful sound – traditionally for the headsets of this brand, with a slight advantage towards low frequencies.Tracks with outstanding bass simply do not allow you to sit still, and there is enough volume reserve to completely exclude external sounds.

Razer uses Razer’s proprietary TriForce Drivers in the headset, consisting of three speakers separately focused on high, mid and low frequencies to improve sound quality and minimize distortion at each frequency.

In games, Barracuda provides good surround sound. In Apex Legends, I was able to calculate the position of the enemy, and in Forza Horizon 4, I was able to hear which side the opponent was coming from.On PS5, the headset was tested in Metro Exodus – and here it did not fail. There is surround sound, the volume is high, which means that I cannot avoid the pretentious speeches of Melnik.

Finally, testing with a smartphone was carried out in the online shooter Call of Duty Mobile: no delays and stuttering of sound, which is not surprising – instead of Bluetooth, it uses a 2.4 GHz radio connection, comparable in speed and reliability with a wired connection.

As for the Razer HyperClear cardioid microphone, as expected, it demonstrates good sensitivity and voice capture without interference, but the sound is muffled. An example of a recording is shown below.

Razer claims 20 hours of autonomy for the Barracuda X headset, and this is true – the device lasts a long time without recharging, and the battery replenishes in approximately 3 hours.

The Razer Barracuda X has no flaws in terms of sound. The headset is equally good in games and other media formats, has a good volume reserve, is easy to connect and does not require additional software. In addition, it is inexpensive: the price tag is set at around $ 99.99, and that’s more than adequate price for a gaming headphone.
