The speed limit on the race track is the grip limit of standard tires, engine power and standard brakes, which turn into cotton wool already on the third lap (for racing, you need carbon ceramics, which is already there). In other words, on public roads, the Camaro will be enough for you anytime, anywhere (although on the track, I think it will yield to the same TT). He will pick up his 250 on the speedometer on the unlimited autobahn, and at this speed it will be controlled predictably and clearly.
If I drove Camaro only in Moscow, New Riga, M4 and Moscow Raceway, I would call the chassis setup almost flawless. But this is not the case. On the gouged and chipped secondary roads of the Moscow region, the suspension showed its reverse side – the lack of energy consumption when the shock absorber rod is exhausted. Pits and joints of concrete slabs must be passed in a whisper. A Subaru-style (or Hazzard-style assholes) runaway is not even worth thinking about.But as soon as you leave the lane on a normal, even undulating asphalt, and everything falls into place – the Camaro once again becomes the king of the road, attracting the attention of everyone and everything.

Most of what is happening around us is virtual reality, animation, computer graphics, a Pelevin carpet with a long pile impregnated with an unusual powder.The sound of the engine is broadcast from the speakers, and the cars will soon be driving without our participation. Illusions are everywhere winning the battle against reality. So a juice pack under the hood is the lesser evil that could happen to a Camaro.
As the Spanish philosopher José Ortega y Gasset wrote in his 1929 imperishable “The Rebellion of the Masses”, “Life is only genuine when everything in it is caused by an urgent and immutable need.” From this point of view, this Camaro is closer to reality than ever, in every sense.The famous proverb about the crane and the titmouse demonstrates its metaphorical meaning here – it’s better to own a two-liter Camaro than to dream of a V8 …

HANDLES ON THE EDGE OF FANTASTIC
After several scientific and technological revolutions, many high-tech devices entered our daily life and are firmly established in it. Thus, there is no longer any need to do something with your own hands, because everything can be entrusted to machines. Indeed, a lot, but not all! There are things that have always been and will remain irreplaceable – these are items – indicators of prestige. And the Montegrappa pens are the best example of this.
In 1912, in Italy, among the picturesque banks of the Brenta River, in a very calm and quiet town of Bassano del Grappa, a company was founded with a rather interesting name – ELMO-MONTE-GRAPPA.The prerequisites for the appearance of such a name were the geographical circumstances – the area of the production location: ELMO – this is how the name of one of the founders of the company, Heinrich Helm, sounds in German, and MONTE-GRA-PA (translated from German – “grape mountain”) is the name of a very famous Italian mountain, towering over Bassano, its height is 1775 meters.
Two pillars of the industry
The emergence of the company was the result of the meeting of two completely different people both in culture and origin, and in the ways of achieving the desired goals of people – a native of the aristocratic family Alessandro Marzotto and the usual Austrian Heinrich Helm. The only thing they had in common was that they were both engineers, looked to the future with tireless enthusiasm and firmly believed that it would be uniquely happy for them. In fact, it happened …
This is how the starting point in the development of Montegrappa was set (hereinafter we will call it that way). The production of fountain pens, which opened in Italy, was located in an old building, which was well adapted to implement even the most incredible ideas. By the way, to this day, part of the company’s production facilities is located in this more than a century-old building.
It should be noted that the production of pens from the very beginning was conceived as something unusual and exclusive. That is why, almost immediately after the opening of production, the enterprise began to focus on the production of gold nibs with ebonite and iridium, as well as piston pens with the use of precious stones. Later, the production of writing instruments was established, in the manufacture of which celluloid (a special type of plastic) was used, which allowed the company to significantly strengthen its position in the market. A trading house was founded to distribute the prestigious Montegrappa fountain pens, which were sold under the name The ELMO Pen. Despite the rather high cost, the pens sold quickly, the demand for them increased, as a result of which the production capacity of the enterprise increased every day, which provided the company with a large and stable income for a relatively long time.
Crisis for the good
In 1914, the First World War began, which ended only four years later.Oddly enough, but at this time the demand for Montegrappa writing instruments increased several times. They were especially popular with the military, an ink fountain pen became an indispensable friend to every soldier, because it was mobile (it was not necessary to dip it into an inkwell all the time) and only letters could keep in touch with relatives. The Montegrappa handle has even become an integral part of the soldier’s equipment. To meet the increased demand for the enterprise, new workers were hired, thus, the total number of personnel at the enterprise amounted to about three hundred people.
At that time, just a few steps from the Montegrappa factory, in Villa Azzalin, was a military hospital. In this institution, two still unknown writers served as workers of the Red Cross: Ernest Hemingway and John Dos Passos. According to their contemporaries, these people often visited the production lines of Montegrappa and used them exclusively in their creative activities.
In 1921, the Marzotto family took full control of the company and began to control all production.The final transfer of power to this clan was officially formalized in 1928, due to the impossibility of joint production management due to the serious illness of Heinrich Helm. Around this time, the quality of the pens and the design of their execution reach a new, even more perfect level. Montegrappa has received worldwide recognition.
In view of the favorable developments, the company began to negotiate with foreign companies – government organizations, industrial enterprises, banks, various offices – to conclude contracts for the execution of orders for the production and supply of writing instruments. Also in the late 1930s, the company significantly expanded production: a subsidiary of Montegrappa opened in the south of Italy – in Naples. It was headed by Leopoldo Tullo Aquila, a worthy, intelligent and competent person. It was he who would later become the full owner of the entire Montegrappa empire.
An unexpected twist
During the Second World War, the demand for pens increased markedly again. The company made colossal profits. But war is an unpredictable thing, therefore, unexpectedly, a huge amount of precious metals was required to meet the country’s military needs, most of which were taken just from the Bassano Grappa area.As a result, the reserves of precious metals were almost exhausted, and given that these materials were the main materials in the production of Montegrappa pens, the company began to experience certain difficulties.
In addition, in 1946, there was a major fire that completely destroyed all the warehouse premises of the enterprise, where celluloid was mainly stored. Given the incident, the company’s management decided to reduce the celluloid content in Montegrappa pens, and instead use silver and gold.Soon, new unique models of pens entered the market, differing from all their competitors in the materials used in the manufacture, originality and incomparable quality. The embossed surface of the case and the platinum-plated gold nib with hand-engraved Greek ornament have become the trademark of Montegrappa pens.
Change of owners
At the end of 1981, the Aquila family became the legal owner of the company, a native of which for a long time headed the Naples office of the company.The decision to buy the full package of shares was made by the son of that very Leopoldo Aquila – Gianfranco. After some stagnation, production began to revive. New collections have appeared. 1983 saw the release of the Reminiscence model, a replica of the 1915 pen, which was a huge success. The company has new priorities: now the production of retro pens, that is, popular in the past, is considered an important direction. The company continues to use first-class classic designs, precious materials, and many technological innovations in its writing instruments that would take more than one book to fully describe.
In 1992 Montegrappa celebrated its 80th anniversary with a limited edition of 1912 pens, which immediately sold worldwide. Since that time, every year, in addition to the main production of first-class pens, the company also produces limited editions of pens designed specifically for the privileged public.
At the end of 2000, the Richemont Group became the owner of the company, which resulted in the expansion of the distribution network, improved production quality and increased turnover.Currently Montegrappa is the undisputed world leader in the field of exclusive and simply the best writing instruments, it is the best guarantee of quality even for the most fastidious consumer. A little about the collections
This collection is a kind of analogue of the 1938 pen. It is considered to be one of the best Montegrappa models. Adjusting the throttle and choke drive of the carburetor
With a properly adjusted actuator, it is necessary that the throttles and the air damper open and close in accordance with the positions of the pedal and manual control buttons
Incomplete throttle opening leads to a decrease in engine power, and insufficient throttle coverage is the cause of increased engine crankshaft speed during idling and increased fuel consumption.
If the air damper does not open completely, then the fuel mixture is enriched, which causes excessive fuel consumption, and if it is incompletely closed, it becomes difficult to start a cold engine.
First, the foot and manual throttle drives are adjusted, and then the air damper drive.
The foot drive is adjusted using a threaded fork on the carburetor rod and the threaded rod of the throttle control pedal in such a way that when the throttle is fully opened, the pedal does not reach the floor by 3-5 mm.
The travel of the throttle pedal must be at least 160 mm.
At the end of the adjustment, the rods are secured with locknuts.
The manual drive of the chokes is adjusted with a clamp, which is installed at the end of the drive cable so that when the drive handle is fully retracted, there is a gap of 2.0-3.0 mm between the clamp and the bracket attached to the rod.
This gap is necessary so that when the manual throttle control knob is pushed in, the return spring ensures that the throttle bodies are covered.
Chokes in the closed position must tightly cover the channels of the mixing chamber; a gap of not more than 0.05 mm is allowed between the channel wall and the choke edge.
When adjusting the air damper drive, it is necessary to set the manual control knob so that it does not reach the stop of the cab shield by 2.0–3.0 mm.
In this position, with the air damper fully open, connect the drive cable to the damper lever and clamp it with a screw, then fix the cable sheath in another clamp.
In the closed position, i.e. when the handle is fully extended, the air damper must completely close the throat channel for the passage of air; a gap of not more than 0.15 mm is allowed between the channel wall and the flap edge.
Adjustment of low idle speed of the engine. The idle speed adjustment should ensure stable idling with the lowest fuel consumption.
The adjustment is carried out with the engine running, the coolant warmed up to normal temperature (80-95 ° C), with normal valve clearances and between spark plug electrodes and with the air damper fully open.
Fig. 1 shows a diagram by which you can trace the operation of the idling system of the K-88A carburetor and the process of adjusting the carburetor. The scheme of the K-88 carburetor is similar.
At low idle speed of the engine, the vacuum from the intake manifold is transmitted through hole 43 of the idle system and rectangular hole 42 into channel 44.
Under the action of a vacuum, the fuel from the carburetor float chamber, passing through the main jet 47, is directed to the idle jet 6.
To obtain the required mixture composition, air is added to the fuel through the cutout 7.
The resulting emulsion flows through holes 43 and 42 into the mixing chamber.
At the exit from the holes, the emulsion is mixed with the main air flow passing into the chamber through the slot formed by the edge of the choke 45 and the wall of the mixing chamber.
When adjusting, it should be borne in mind that the K-88A carburetor is two-chamber and that the qualitative composition of the combustible mixture in each chamber is regulated by its own adjusting screw 41 independently of the other chamber.It should be remembered that when the adjusting screws are screwed in, the mixture becomes leaner, and when they are unscrewed, it is enriched.
Fig. 2 shows a method for adjusting the K-88A carburetor on a ZIL-1Z0 car.
Before starting the engine and starting the adjustment, it is necessary to tighten the screws 1 of the high-quality idle speed adjustment to failure, but not too tight, and then unscrew each by three turns.
Then start the engine and carry out a quantitative adjustment, i.e.That is, set the stop screw 2 to the smallest opening of the throttles, at which the engine should work quite stably.
Then gradually tighten one of the screws 1 at each test by 1/4 turn until the engine starts to work with obvious interruptions due to a large depletion of the mixture in the cylinders. Then enrich the mixture by unscrewing screw 1 1/2 turn.
Proceed in the same way with the second adjusting screw 1.
Having adjusted the composition of the mixture, you should try to reduce the idle speed by unscrewing the stop screw 2 of the throttles little by little, and then again try to deplete the composition of the mixture with both screws 1 alternately, as indicated above.
Usually, after two attempts, it is possible to find the correct position for all three adjusting screws and thereby complete the qualitative and quantitative adjustment of the low idle speed of the engine.
To check the adjustment, press the throttle control pedal and immediately release it. If the engine stops, the idle speed must be increased.
With a properly adjusted carburetor, the engine should run stably at 400-500 rpm of the crankshaft.
The method of adjusting the carburetor on a ZIL-1Z1 car is the same as on a ZIL-130 car.
Control and adjustment of the K-88 and K-88A carburetors can be performed on the simplest installations and using templates that can be made in a motor transport company.
Checking the fuel level in the float chamber. The main reasons for an increased or decreased fuel level in the carburetor float chamber may be the following: float leakage, incorrect weight (normal weight 18.7-19.8 g), jamming or leakage of fuel supply valve 2 (Fig.one).
One of the reasons for the increased or decreased fuel level in the float chamber may also be the incorrect installation of the needle fuel supply valve when assembling it on the carburetor air neck housing.
Therefore, before proceeding with the adjustment of the fuel level, it is necessary to make sure that all units and parts of the float mechanism are in good working order.
The tightness of the assembled needle fuel supply valve is checked on a vacuum unit (Fig.3, a). The assembly 4 of the needle valve with the gasket 5 is installed in the body 6, the tube of which is screwed into the tee 7.
The work of the installation is as follows.
When the valve 8 is open and the piston 9 moves with the rod 10 in the direction indicated by the arrow, a vacuum is created in the cylinder, under the action of which the needle valve is pressed against its seat, and the water in the glass tube 2 rises up.
The level of the water column is equal to the vacuum in the cylinder.
The piston must be moved until the water in the glass tube reaches a height of 100 cm on the scale 3 from the water level in the tank 1, after which the tap 8 must be closed.
If the needle valve is tight, then the water in the glass tube will not go down, if there is no tightness, the water will go down.
The permissible value of the fall of the water column in 0.5 min can be no more than 10 mm on the scale 3.
To obtain tightness, lapping of the needle valve to the seat is allowed.If after this the tightness is not obtained, then the needle valve must be replaced with a new one.
When installing the needle valve assembly 12 (Fig. 3.6) on the air throat body 11, it is necessary to maintain the correct distance from the top point of the needle valve sphere to the plane of the throat body. This size is adjusted with shims 14, and it should be equal to 13.5-13.8 mm according to the template 13.
Fuel level in the carburetor float chamber at a pressure in front of the needle valve in the range of 125-170 mm Hg.Art. should be 18-19 mm from the upper split plane of the float chamber body.
There are two ways to check the fuel level
The first method is that when the engine is running at low idle speed, unscrew the control plug (Fig. 4, a) and through the control hole located at eye level (Fig. 4, b), observe the level fuel.
When the level is correctly adjusted, the fuel will be visible, but it should not flow out of the hole.
The second method of checking is that it is necessary to unscrew the plug that closes the channel of the valve of the mechanical economizer, and in its place screw in the adapter 1 (Fig. 5), ending in a glass tube 2 with marked risks on it indicating the limits of the fluctuation of the fuel level in float chamber. The fuel level in the float chamber must be up to the top or bottom mark, i.e. at a distance of 18-19 mm from the split plane of the float chamber.
To obtain the correct fuel level in the float chamber (with the correct installation of the needle valve), bending of the float bracket is allowed: at a high level, the float must be bent down, at a low level – up.
Checking the throughput of the carburetor dosing elements
Caring for carburetor jets includes not only flushing and blowing out their calibrated holes, but also checking their flow capacity.
The efficiency of the carburetor, and therefore the engine operation, depends on the normal throughput of the nozzles, which is checked once a year.
The throughput of the nozzles is checked on two types of devices: to check the nozzles for the outflow of water with an absolute determination of the flow rate and to check the nozzles with a relative measurement of the flow rate of water.
Instruments with absolute determination of the flow rate of the nozzles provide greater accuracy and stability of readings compared to instruments with relative determination. Therefore, it is better to use a device with absolute definition (Fig. 6).
The throughput of the nozzle is expressed in cubic centimeters of water flowing out through the tested nozzle in 1 min, at a water column height of 1000 ± 2 mm (counting from the support surface of the nozzle) at a temperature of 20 ± 1 ° C, which is determined by a thermometer 4.
When checking the throughput – the jets must be installed in the devices so that the liquid flows through them in the same direction as in the carburetor.
All nozzles must be free from burrs, dirt and oil, rinsed in clean gasoline and blown out with compressed air before checking for flow. When calibrating, the dimensions of the orifices of the nozzles are brought to the required size by gradually expanding them.
Embossing or soldering holes to reduce their throughput is not allowed.
If the diameter of the calibrated orifice of the jet is larger than the norm, then the jet must be replaced with a new one.
The dispensing elements are checked in the following order. Water from the upper tank 1 (see Fig. 6) through the tap 2 through the tube enters the float chamber 16, in which the float mechanism maintains a constant water level equal to 1000 mm from the supporting surface of the tested nozzle.
From the float chamber, water through the tap 15 and the tube 13 enters the body 12, rises along the glass tube 3 and at the same time flows out through the checked nozzle 5 screwed into the holder 11.
Water flowing out through the nozzle to be checked enters the measuring beaker 6 or tray 7, from where it flows through the tap 9 into the lower tank 10.
From the lower tank, water, as required, can be supplied by compressed air from a compressor or a hand pump to the upper tank 1 through pipe 14; taps 8 and 9 must be closed at the same time.
After filling the upper tank, first open the tap 8, and then the tap 9 to avoid overfilling the tray 7.
To determine the throughput of the nozzle, it is necessary to put a measuring beaker 6 under the flowing stream of water and determine the time of filling it with water using a stopwatch.
The flow rate of the nozzle is defined as the quotient of the amount of water in the beaker in cubic centimeters by the time it is filled in minutes.
If the flow of water is stopped after exactly 1 minute, then its volume in the beaker will indicate the throughput of the jets in cubic centimeters per minute.
For normal operation of the carburetor, it is also necessary to check the tightness of the valve 34 (see Fig. 1) of the economizer with a mechanical drive; the test can be carried out on a vacuum unit (see.rice. 3, a) in the same way as the fuel supply needle valve is checked.
It is also necessary to check by inspection the adherence to their seats of the ball 29 (see Fig. 1) and needle 40 valves of the accelerating pump, as well as their freedom of movement.
It is also necessary to check the correct operation of the movable mechanisms of the economizer valve with a mechanical and pneumatic drive, an accelerator pump, an air damper 15 and chokes 45, which are not allowed to hang or jam.
When checking the needle valve 40, it is necessary to unscrew the hollow screw 14 and remove the valve, remembering that the valve is not fixed in its seat, and therefore can spontaneously fall out and get lost.
