Spotlight: InstaPrivy Camping Toilet – Buy it for Van Life

As we all know, “doing your business” when living in a van is one of the larger personal concerns that people wonder about when just starting out. We have written about budget camping toilets in the past, but just came across these InstaPrivy commodes and thought we should spread the word. We’ve squatted in the woods on more makeshift structures than we’d care to admit, so this item was immediately interesting.

One of us had the privilege of meeting Paul (the creator of InstaPrivy) the other night, and testing out this sturdy little bathroom setup– well, pretended anyway. Paul was there promoting it’s light weight, rapid setup, and currently-running Kickstarter campaign.

You can see how the whole system works in the product video below:

The InstaPrivy System

Unlike some other collapsable camping toilets, the base (seat) of the InstaPrivy system was not flimsy in the slightest, which is a noted complaint of some other models on the market. If you choose to use a waste bag, the edges secure firmly under the seat in designed channels to hold it tight. It’s also very compact when fully folded, unlike some DIY bucket solutions.

On-the-go Privacy

The distinguishing feature of the InstaPrivy system is the privacy tent. A sturdy seat is great, but when you need to go, you don’t want to be seated and exposed on the side of the road as other cars whiz by. The tent is simple to unfold and is supported by your head, like a big hat or mosquito net (basically). It has compartments for toilet paper, etc. and has a narrow mesh slit around the circumference of the tent to see your surroundings as you take care of business.

Paul informed me that the whole system weighs just 6lbs, which is far lighter than some of the other cassete toilets for RVs or campers. The Instaprivy is definitely more on the “camping” end of the spectrum, but if you and your van are more often in outdoorsy areas, this is a super compact little package that is constructed to last years.

The InstaPrivy Kickstarter campaign is currently running (Aug ’18), during which you can grab yours for a discounted rate. You can also just pick up either the folding seat or the privacy tent, depending on your needs.

Sanitation Facilities Provided by Gospel for Asia: World Toilet Day Spotlight

Global focus brings attention to Gospel for Asia’s efforts to improve health and well-being by helping provide simple essentials, sanitation facilitiesWILLS POINT, Texas — Ribbon-cutting ceremonies typically mark the opening of a grand new building, but in Asia they can even celebrate a more modest, but life-changing construction—of a simple outhouse.

Local residents applaud at the ribbon-cutting for a new community toilet provided by GFA-supported workers to help improve health, safety, and well-being.

The enthusiastically attended formal dedications follow the provision of desperately needed sanitation facilities, often available for use by multiple families, by GFA-supported (Gospel for Asia, www.gfa.org) workers helping improve the health and quality of life of those in low-income, rural communities.

As they are year-round, teams will be engaged in the construction of these outdoor toilets on World Toilet Day (Nov. 19), whose “When Nature Calls” theme spotlights the huge cost of inadequate sanitation. Providing everyone with basic sanitation by 2030 is one of the United Nations’ sustainable development goals.

Currently, millions risk sickness and death from disease because they do not have access to a toilet, while women and girls are in danger of assault when forced to find a remote spot in the open to use as a bathroom. Some girls stay home from school because a lack of facilities exposes them to danger.

Toilet construction has been part of GFA’s caring work for years, providing such basic essentials as a demonstration of God’s love and care for those on the margins of society. Last year, teams provided almost 6,500 toilets to communities across Asia.

Along with installing toilets, GFA-supported workers also drill community wells and distribute water filters, and teach good hygiene practices. That includes promoting the “Swachh Bharat” open-defecation-free campaign—discouraging people from relieving themselves in the open—launched by the Indian government.

As part of its efforts, GFA is also attempting to raise more awareness of the scale of the health threat resulting from poor sanitation. The subject has been highlighted in a major article addressing key global issues that includes the following sobering statistics:

  • 2.3 billion people live without basic sanitation facilities
  • almost 900 million people with no alternative have to defecate in the open
  • 280,000 deaths annually are linked to diseases like cholera, dysentery, typhoid, and polio, resulting from inadequate sanitation

“Basic sanitation is not just about health, as vitally important as that is,” said GFA founder Dr. K.P. Yohannan. “It is also a matter of both safety and dignity. I praise God that he allows us to meet such basic needs in his name. God cares about all our life, and it is good for us to care about others in the same way.”

As evidence of GFA’s major emphasis on providing good sanitation, a new toilet is featured in its 2018 Christmas Gift Catalog (https://www.gfa.org/gift). Although it seems an unlikely gift, just $160 provides an outdoor toilet for families in need.

Previous recipients have told of how the provision of a simple toilet has greatly improved their lives. “They provide comfort and convenience with a sense of security and dignity to each member of the house,” said one man.

“We were forced to go out in an open area to relieve ourselves in spite of toilets available in the school, but they are broken and in a bad condition,” said a girl student in one community. “These new toilets will really be a blessing for us.”

GFA (Gospel for Asia, www.gfa.org) and its worldwide affiliates have—for almost 40 years—provided humanitarian assistance and spiritual hope to millions across Asia, especially among those who have yet to hear the Good News. Last year, this included more than 70,000 children, free medical services in over 1,200 villages and remote communities, 4,000 wells drilled, 11,000 water filters installed, Christmas gifts for more than 200,000 needy families, and spiritual teaching available in 110 languages in 14 nations through radio ministry.

Bathroom Lighting Ideas

By Meg Escott

So we’re here to scrub up on bathroom lighting ideas.  As with all the home lighting design pages, this page takes us through different bathroom lighting designs and talks a little about each option.   The illustrations are really simple, to keep us focused on the concepts.  Then at the bottom of this page there are some photos of bathroom lighting schemes which apply the ideas we’ve been discussing.

Let’s have a think about the activities that go on in a bathroom to help us figure out the lighting requirements.  Bathrooms are for washing and grooming so so we need general lighting and good mirror lighting.  Many of us look to the bathroom as a place of relaxation for a long hot shower or luxurious soak in the bathtub.  This means it’s worth including some lighting that will create a relaxing mood.

If you make trips to the bathroom during the night then some floor level soft bathroom lighting ideas will prevent you stubbing your toe on the wc.

Bathroom Lighting Ideas – General Lighting

All the usual lighting ideas can be applied to general lighting in a bathroom.  General lighting is usually provided from overhead from a pendant, globe or a few downlights.   The beauty of the bathroom is that the fixtures and fittings break up the bathroom into different areas which all have different lighting possibilities.

Bathroom Lighting Ideas – Mirror Lighting

Your mirror lighting could be the difference between you saying ‘hey gorgeous’ or ‘Oh God who’s that?’ to yourself in the mirror.  Get your mirror lighting right and you can achieve a flattering light that will have you heading out with a spring in your step.  Of all the bathroom lighting ideas, mirror lighting is perhaps the most important.

To achieve good mirror lighting what you need is an overhead source mixed with light from the side.  This first picture is the first building block in a good mirror lighting scheme, the light beam needs to have a reasonably wide angle.

Ideal mirror lighting with light from above and the sides

Mirror lighting from overhead

We’ll start with three ways of providing the overhead lighting.

First of all, there’s the standard overhead bar light.

Standard bar light used for overhead mirror lighting

Use a single spotlight from above.

A single spotlight from above

Or if you have a wide mirror use two spotlights.

Include more spotlights for wide mirrors

Mirror lighting from the side

The ultimate in mirror lighting is to combine a low voltage overhead light with mains voltage lighting from the side.  So let’s look at some options for lighting from the side.

Light sources placed at the side of the mirror will enhance your skin tone.  In the picture below the light source is set behind the mirror.  It works well if the mirror is a cupboard and stands out slightly from the wall.  This lighting on it’s own gives a lovely relaxing glow.  For activities such as shaving or applying makeup this mirror lighting set up should be combined with an overhead light.

Mirror lighting with the light source set just behind a mirror which doubles as a cabinet

Equally you could go for an all round glow, which again would benefit from an additional overhead light source when more light is required.

An all round mirror lighting glow with light sources set behind the mirror

Another option for lighting the mirror from the sides is with sconces.  Below the sconces are very traditional but all styles of sconces to the sides of the mirror will provide the light you need.

Mount sconces of any style either side of the mirror

Another possibility is to mount the sconces on the mirror itself.  This can be a good way to go if your mirror is wide.

Another option is to light sconces onto the mirror itself

Bar lights either side of the mirror provide light evenly over the height of your mirror.

Bar lights are a great way to add a light source from the side of the mirror

Similar to the principle of providing a glow around the mirror you could take inspiration from dressing rooms and install spotlights around the mirror.  On a dimmer switch this arrangement would do nicely for both grooming and for a more relaxed mood.

Go showbiz style with your mirror lighting
Some mirrors come with inset spotlights

And then there’s the pendant trend which is another way of providing lighting from the side of your mirror.   Just remember that this solution doesn’t mix well with a medicine cabinet.  You don’t want to be knocking into a lampshade every time you reach for the toothpaste.

Another possibility is hanging pendants

In this picture the wash basin has been enclosed by two walls which provide a bit of separation and privacy from the toilet and shower.  And those walls present further lighting opportunities.  Here we’ve got bar lights on the walls to each side rather than on the back wall.  The light should be positioned fairly close to the mirror or the effect will be of a washed out face reflected in a dark mirror.

Lights can be installed on walls perpendicular to the back wall provided that they are close enough to the mirror

So let’s do a roundup on bathroom lighting ideas for mirrors…

  • Include a source from overhead (low voltage) and a source from each side (mains).
  • Put the source from above and the source from the side on a separate circuit so that you can switch one of them off to lower the light level and create a more relaxed atmosphere.
  • A dimmer switch can work magic.

Bathroom Lighting Ideas – Bath Lighting

If you have a bath the chances are that you use it to bathe for relaxation and if there are young children in your household it’s a much loved part of the routine.

So let’s have a look at some of the ways you can light your bath.  Think about the lighting in terms of how it makes your bathroom look and how it will enhance your experience of being in the bath.

In this first picture there’s a ceiling globe installed above the bath.  If you go for this option make sure the light isn’t too bright or you’ll need sunglasses when you’re lying in the bath.

A light directly above the bath is not recommended – too much glare

In the next picture we have two spotlights above the bath and lighting on the lower side of the bath panel.  We’ve already talked about how it’s important to avoid glare so the secret to this lighting scheme is to place the spotlights near the back wall and angle the light toward the wall.   This will create a wall wash and the the light will diffuse off the wall.

The light in the bottom of the panel of the bath is ideal to keep on during the night to provide night time lighting if you need to go to the bathroom during the night.

Create a wall wash with downlights and team with floor lights installed at the bottom of the bath panel

In the set up below the same effect is achieved using strip lights (try a rope light or an LED strip) in the join between the ceiling and the wall and in the bath panel.

Wall wash and floor wash achieved with strip lighting

Creating a panel of light behind the bath is another option.

Try a lighting panel next to the bath

Wall mounted lights would create a ceiling wash that will gently reflect down to the bath.  This option adds more to the appearance factor of your bathroom, rather than functional light around the bath.

Wall mounted lights around the bath add interest to your bathroom lighting scheme

Some lighting at eye level (eye level when you’re lying in the bath) creates an intimate focus around the bath.    A subtle upwards wall wash is one way of doing this.  It imitates the light that candles give.

A subtle upwards wall wash creates an intimate glow at eye level (when you’re in the bath)

A niche around the bath is a great way to add visual interest and provide intimate bath level lighting.

Bathroom Lighting Ideas – Shower Lighting

Moving along then, to the shower.  These illustrations are of a built-in walk-in shower and the ideas can be adapted for other shower configurations such as a glass shower cubicle.

Starting again with the overhead dome light. A bright overhead light provides functional lighting for the shower.  The only thing I don’t like about having a purely overhead light in the shower is that if I want to shave my legs in the shower my body creates a shadow so it’s hard to get good light down onto my legs.

Functional shower lighting from an overhead globe

Another option for overhead lighting is one or two downlights depending on the size of your shower.   These downlights can be placed along the central line of the shower or (and this is my preference) more towards the back wall and angled towards the wall to create a wall wash which reflects light back into the shower.

Overhead shower lighting provided by downlights

Strip lights can be used to create a wall and floor wash.  Among the bathroom lighting ideas, this one needs to be worked into your plans to provide the slots into which the strip lights will be placed.

Wall and floor glow courtesy of strip lights

Wall mounted downlights, either one or two depending on the size of your shower can be a good solution, particularly if your bathroom has high ceilings.

Try wall mounted downlights in the shower

High and low mounted spotlights create a dramatic shower lighting scheme.  There would be two further lights placed on the left wall of the shower in this picture.  I guess you could put in a mid level one in as well.  The lower level light would provide ideal light for shaving those legs!

Turning downlights sideways in the shower

Sticking with the same theme of sideways lighting, another options is to use smaller LEDs and put in a row of lights.

Make your shower twinkle with a rows of LED lights in your shower

This is one of my favorite bathroom lighting ideas, where the whole of the shower wall is lit up.  This sheds an even glow throughout the shower space.  Put this lighting panel on a dimmer switch and you have a bit of bathroom lighting magic.

Light up the whole wall in your shower

If you’re luck enough to have a niche in your shower why not include a small downlight?

Include a downlight in your shower niche

Bathroom Lighting Ideas – Sink Lighting

You’ll be surprised how many different bathroom lighting ideas there are for your washbasin.

If you have a sink built in to a vanity you could think of setting a lighting strip just under the vanity surface for a gentle glow.

Add a glow with a light strip under the vanity surface

You could go for a light strip or maybe a row of LEDs in the vanity toe kick.

Try lighting under the vanity toe kick

A surface mounted sink presents the opportunity to install a few small uplights in the surface of the vanity to light up the washbasin.

Uplight a surface mounted washbasin

This square shape seems to call for backlighting.

Backlit surface mounted sink

Here’s a different design of vanity which floats above the floor so lighting it from underneath seems like the natural thing to do.  Here’s an under-glow courtesy of a light strip.

Float your vanity on a pool of light

Or you could light both above and below the vanity from the side.

A sink enclosed with walls presents the opportunity to light from the side

A niche above the wash basin creates a lighting feature.

Feature niche

Many of the mirror lighting ideas above also contribute to your lighting around the washbasin area.

Bathroom Lighting Ideas – Toilet Lighting

We’ll finish with the throne of the bathroom, the toilet, the water closet, the lavatory and various other perhaps more unsavory terms.

So, what is required of toilet lighting ideas?  I’m the only female in my household, so I like the men in my life to be able to see what they’re aiming for, and certain members of the household like to read on the throne.

You could go with a basic ceiling mounted globe.

Ceiling mounted globe lighting the toilet

Or a downlight (or maybe 2)

Downlight over the toilet

A niche behind the toilet is a great place to keep spare loo rolls.  You don’t want anything too distracting though – eyes down boys!

How about a niche behind the toilet?

If you have a fancy built in cistern this lends itself to a wall glow.

A wall wash included in a built in cistern arrangement

Floor level lighting near the toilet can come in handy at night time.

Floor level lighting can be useful in bathrooms

A low level glow from the wall behind the toilet is an option.  It would be great on a dimmer switch as low level lighting at night time.

A glow behind the toilet works well

Or bring the idea of cove lighting to the wall and create a glow around the back wall.

Cove lighting applied to the wall behind the toilet

Phew – now that you’ve seen the simplified pictures of bathroom lighting ideas you can take a look at how some of these applied.

Chess: Rausis’s cheating puts rankings rise and Sunningdale 2011 in spotlight | Chess

Igors Rausis, at 58 the oldest among the world top 100 grandmasters, was last week caught analysing in the toilet during his game in the Strasbourg Open. Rausis later told the Czech newspaper Lidovky: “I signed a statement that I am guilty in full … I completely ruined my name and also destroyed the trust of all my colleagues and friends.”

Rausis’s steady advance up the rankings in his 50s, after many years at the 2500 moderate grandmaster level, was clearly abnormal. He played in smaller events which could not afford the strict anti-cheating measures of major tournaments, and he exploited a rule where a win against an opponent 400 or more rating points lower gains 0.8 of a point. Rausis played many games where the rating difference was much higher, so that the statistical odds favoured him.

The curve on Rausis’s rating graph changed from level to rising from 2013, raising questions. But now there is interest in a game which Rausis played at Sunningdale in August 2011 in what was probably his third visit to England after Hastings 1997-98 and Liverpool 2008.

The Guardian column about Sunningdale 2011 covered the winner Ameet Ghasi’s IM norm and Ghasi’s penultimate round win against Rausis. In the final round Rausis met GM Keith Arkell. Both top seeds had been outpaced by Ghasi, so a quick GM draw might have been expected, but instead Rausis sacrificed three pieces for a brilliant mating attack.

Arkell, 58, was the 2014 European Senior (50+) champion, is an endgame expert, especially on R+B v R which he has won some 20 times with no draws, and a much respected grandmaster. He said nothing in public at the time, but this week wrote on Facebook, as quoted on the English Chess Forum: “Me and Rausis were always about equal, then suddenly he beat me with a three-piece sacrifice. Something didn’t feel right”. Arkell later clarified that he has no clear memory of what triggered his suspicions, but thought that Rausis had probably left the board for a while at the critical moment.

It also emerged that Rausis had another game with exactly the same position before 13 Nxf7! a few months earlier, against the Hungarian GM Denes Boros in a tournament in Belgium. In that game Rausis was Black, not White as against Arkell, and Boros went 13 Ne4? when the game was quickly drawn.

It would be expected that Rausis would analyse the obvious sacrifice 13 Nxf7 with a computer after the Boros game, and realise that it was a winning brilliancy in the style of the legendary Mikhail Tal. He could not have foreseen that the Arkell game would follow the same course from a rare opening sequence.

Did he at the critical moment successfully reconstruct the analysis at the board or did he succumb to the temptation to pop out to the loo or to his room at the hotel venue for a memory check?

There were possible difficulties with the latter, including the less advanced technology of mobiles in 2011 and the need for a pass to the player’s hotel room. If these were overcome, it could have been Igors Rausis’s first fatal step on an ultimately career-destroying path. The answer remains a mystery. Only Rausis himself knows the truth.

3628 1 Rxg7+! Kxg7 2 Ra7+ Kg8 3 Qh5! with the winning double threat Qxh7 mate and Qxg5+. If Black tries 2…Qc7 then 3 Rxc7+ Rxc7 4 Qg4 and White emerges a piece ahead.

50 designers reimagine the humble toilet paper holder at LA’s Marta ga

Toilet paper, tp, bathroom tissue; no matter what you call it, the little holder it spins around generally looks the same. In fact, you probably don’t even think about it as a piece of design.

[Photo: courtesy Marta + Plant Paper]A new show full of them at the Los Angeles gallery Marta will certainly get your attention. The show, called Under/Over, features the works of more than 50 artists who redesigned the hardware responsible for the thankless, yet essential job of keeping toilet paper at the ready.

Marta directors Heidi Korsavong and Benjamin Critton say they’ve always been interested in “under-celebrated and overlooked domestic objects,” and after partnering with eco-friendly toilet paper brand PlantPaper, they learned just how bad toilet paper can be for the environment (it’s a single use paper product, and all those soft multi-ply sheets lead to major cutting of virgin forests). The team at Marta got interested in the literal point of contact between toilet paper and consumer—the oft-overlooked dispenser.

Nifemi Marcus-Bello, Opá Oba, 2020. [Photo: courtesy Marta + Plant Paper]The exhibition, available to view online or through November 4 by appointment, features an array of interpretations that elevate the humble toilet roll holder to high art. Artists used everything from minimalist translucent acrylic to steel chains to painted wood and ceramic. Nifemi Marcus-Bello’s Ọpá Oba holder is made of copper wire and hand-beaded. Marco Campardo Studio’s Boro holder features the elegant curves of heat-shaped borosilicate glass. Studio OOIEE uses a Black + Decker electric drill with a special bit as its design. Duchamp would be proud.

OOIEE (Matt Olson), Mandrake (He came from …),, 2020. [Photo: courtesy Marta + Plant Paper]Sure, all this attention on toilet paper can see a bit silly. It may even induce giggles. But the exhibition makes a serious point. Everything is designed, and though this piece of hardware may not be as sexy as that bladeless Dyson fan, it too has a footprint on the world. This exhibition uses eccentric, sometimes zany, design to spotlight it.

YouTubers claim to be Kelowna display toilet ‘poopers’ – Princeton Similkameen Spotlight

Following the publication of this article, Blue Ballz deleted the videos in question. This story has been updated to reflect that.

Often, people like to try an item before they buy it.

However, toilets are usually not one of those items.

After Kelowna RCMP announced its investigation into a person defecating into a display toilet at businesses in both Kelowna and West Kelowna in early-June, the incident quickly faded into a mystery.

Not a hint was heard for a few weeks.

Until social media accounts under the name “Blue Ballz” started to crop up.

The comedy group, which appears to consist of five men in their 20s from the Lower Mainland, posted a now-removed video entitled Cops Investigating Us For Testing Display Toilets! on its YouTube and Instagram pages. In the 17-minute-long video, the men claimed to be the culprits who soiled the display toilets — and they have proof.

Before it was removed, the YouTube video’s description stated the men never actually defecated in the toilets.

“… But we’ll run with the story,” read the description.

The video, in vlog format, showed the men on a road trip from Vancouver to Kelowna. Part of the video showed them attending several local hardware stores, pulling the same prank in which one of them had an attendant help them look for a toilet, before subsequently pulling their pants down and testing out the new “sh–-er.”

The men were kicked out of several stores and evidently had the cops called on them by at least two businesses.

While Kelowna RCMP Const. Solana Paré said she couldn’t speak to the legitimacy of the video, she said the detachment would be investigating the social media accounts.

Kelowna Capital News has reached out to the creators of Blue Ballz for comment.

90,000 How many spotlights do you need in the toilet

Properly positioned bathroom fixtures will help drive away morning drowsiness and feel a surge of vivacity, will allow you to carry out high-quality hygiene procedures. And evening bathing in soft, relaxing light will make it easy to relieve the tiredness accumulated during the day and get a portion of positive emotions.

Contents

What kind of bathroom lighting is considered comfortable ↑

Competently located light sources can create a special mood and comfort.It is important to place them in such a way that the rays of direct light and glare reflected from the mirror do not cut your eyes. Deep shadow formation should also be avoided. To create a cozy basic lighting, it is advisable to use luminaires built into the ceiling.

In general, a successful combination of wall, built-in and ceiling luminaires makes it possible to enhance the illumination of the room and achieve a stunning visual effect. For example, a spacious bathroom with many different corners and niches provides excellent opportunities for using a variety of light sources to create original designs.Luminaires can be installed under sinks, bathtubs, above shelves, or built into the floor, steps. Such interiors look very stylish and original.

Bathroom fixtures can be classified as follows:

  1. Depending on the light source (lamp): fluorescent, LED, halogen, incandescent lamps.
  2. By placement level: wall, ceiling, floor.
  3. By field of application: general, decorative, directional (special) lighting.
  4. By installation method: open and built-in.
  5. By functional areas: above the bathroom, near the mirror, doors, furniture lighting, etc.

What lighting devices can be used in the bathroom ↑

It is necessary to choose lamps for the bathroom taking into account the peculiarities of this room. Temperature drops, high humidity and, as a result, evaporation dictate their own requirements for lighting devices. They must have:

  • resistant to temperature changes;
  • excellent moisture protection;
  • corrosion resistance.

It is not worth buying a lamp for the bathroom, even of amazing beauty, if it is not designed for use in wet rooms. Models designed for these conditions operate at reduced voltage and have a sealed dome and housing.

The role of lamps in bathroom interior design ↑

When choosing lighting fixtures for the bathroom, certain rules should be followed. In particular, it is imperative to take into account that the selected model must correspond to the design of the room as a whole, including the design of the plumbing fixtures.In a bright, glossy bathroom with many chrome surfaces, it is advisable to install discreet recessed lamps. Conversely, for a room decorated in soft, calm colors, you can choose more noticeable electrical appliances, focusing on color, luxurious and unusual design.

For basic lighting, a ceiling luminaire with a matt bright reflector is a good choice. Products with pill-shaped shades are popular. It is possible to use them as wall electrical appliances for additional lighting.

It is possible to arrange a very effective lighting of the bathing area using ceiling lamps, which are switched on separately. The bathtub looks impressive in a circle of light in the general twilight of the room.

How many lighting fixtures should there be in the bathroom ↑

The main parameter that allows you to determine how many lamps you need in the bathroom is the size of the room. For example, for a bathroom up to 5 sq. m. a ceiling lamp designed for two 60 W incandescent lamps will be quite enough.At the same time, the presence of additional light in the mirror area will provide the greatest comfort when applying makeup or shaving.

In the case when the bathroom is very tiny, you can limit yourself to only the overhead light. There is a different approach to a spacious room: it is divided into zones, for each of which lighting is carefully thought out depending on the functional features. If you want to decorate the main areas with LED spots, then you need to remember the capabilities of these lamps.

Perfectly matched lighting – a guarantee of coziness and comfort.In addition, this is a significant component of a good mood and spiritual harmony. Therefore, it is so important, while adhering to a certain style when choosing a lamp, not to forget about your own taste and preferences in order to please fashion trends.

Bathroom lighting is key and requires some thought before installing: 1. What type of lighting is best to use and how to plan it 2.Where to place the lamps, and how many you need.

And to begin with, let’s immediately define the type of lighting, there are only two of them: natural and artificial.

Natural Light – the use of daylight and sunlight to illuminate indoor spaces. Artificial lighting – lighting of premises using artificial light sources.

For a city bathroom, natural light is rarely used, so it is better to immediately understand the options for artificial lighting:

1.Built-in luminaires in stretch ceiling – the most optimal light source for a stretch ceiling is LED luminaires, since they are weakly heated and have effective light output; you can also use halogen lamps with an obligatory aluminum reflector and ordinary incandescent bulbs. Stretch ceiling lighting is divided into several options that can be applied both individually and together:

Central – luminaire located in the center

Spot – fixtures are mounted along the entire ceiling

Perimeter

Starry sky – conventional or fiber-optic LEDs are installed in the form of the starry sky, or various constellations

In order to avoid deformation of the stretch ceiling, it is necessary to use light bulbs with a power not exceeding the recommended one. Incandescent light bulb – up to 50W, halogen light bulb – up to 35W.

2. Luminaire for a regular ceiling – in this version, the best solution will be a plafond in the form of a plate or a ball, which is fixed to the ceiling or wall.

3. Mirror Illumination – This should be bright enough to provide even lighting and minimize the reflection of shadows on the face. For small mirrors, you can use lamps, positioning them on both sides at face level, which is ideal for applying makeup, for large mirrors, set horizontal lighting – going from above along the entire perimeter.In addition, the use of lamps with translucent white shades will help to avoid glare, while lamps with transparent glass, on the contrary, tend to cause them.

For both small and large mirrors, it is most practical to install the luminaires independently of the general light, that is, they must have their own switch and, preferably, with a dimmer – this method will help save on electricity.

4.The lighting for the shower-bath is an area that requires additional lighting, here it should be immediately noted that it is not a shower stall, which is usually already equipped with appropriate lighting, but an ordinary shower above the bath. An area where lighting plays a functional role, which will facilitate a comfortable shave, facials, or for reading books and studying labels. For such purposes, special lamps designed for use in a humid environment are best suited, and since they are made in the form of a sconce, in addition to practicality, they will bring aesthetic beauty to the bathroom.

How many fixtures do you need for optimal lighting in a small bathroom. Let us analyze using the example of a bathroom in a Khrushchev, which is 1.9×1.6m.

If you correctly organize the lighting in the bathroom, it will allow a person to comfortably take water procedures. Lamps are able to decorate a room, visually expand its space and make it suitable for multifunctional use. The article will discuss how many lamps may be needed for this, which lighting fixtures are better to choose, how to position them correctly, plus examples of how it will all look.

Light calculation

The easiest way to solve the indicated problem is to open SNiP and find out the reference value.According to the standards, one light source is needed to illuminate an area of 5 m². Since in most cases the area of the bathroom is rarely large, it is enough to hang one ceiling chandelier. She will be able to make the room bright.

But any changes in the layout and the use of complex systems for decorating ceilings may require adjustments to the distribution of the light flux. In this case, experienced designers always have their own best practices. They advise organizing bright, but evenly diffused lighting in the bathroom. It will help to emphasize the brilliance and cleanliness of the interior.

Each zone requires lighting Source mebel-go.ru

Not long ago, when drawing up projects, calculations of the luminous flux were made taking into account the use of conventional incandescent lamps. Today it is not economical to use them, so the existing standards have been revised. The starting point is not the power of the device (W), but the intensity of the luminous flux (lm). For LEDs, this figure is 8 times higher than that of incandescent lamps.Experts assure that for lighting a small bathroom, one LED lamp with a power of 5-6 W and two sconces with the same power are enough. They are most often placed on both sides of the mirror.

It is important to consider both the color of the finish and the presence (or absence) of a natural light source. The bathroom, the walls of which are completely finished with light glossy tiles, does not need a lot of bulbs. The dark finish absorbs the light output. Additional devices are capable of compensating for losses. But for everything to work correctly, it is important to take a responsible approach to the issue of their installation.

Rules for the placement of luminaires

The experience of decorating small rooms shows that there are nuances that must be taken into account when choosing a place for installing lamps.

The more light sources there are, the less the power of each should be.

If the bathroom is used as a multifunctional room, each area should be illuminated separately. Usually one lamp is hung directly above the bathing thicket or inside the shower stall, the other is where a person changes clothes and stores removed things. Bathroom ceiling lighting is matched to the ceiling height. If they are tall, you can afford to hang a plate chandelier. With low ceilings, it is worth giving preference to recessed luminaires or spotlights, which can provide sufficient flow intensity and, if necessary, redirect it in the other direction. The shape and design of the devices is selected taking into account the chosen design style.

Style dictates the choice of lighting fixtures Source dekor.expert

On our website you can find contacts of construction companies that offer the service of selection and installation of any electrical appliances or electricians in general. You can communicate directly with representatives by visiting the Low-Rise Country exhibition of houses.

It is important to direct the light flux perpendicular to the reflecting surface, then it will be possible to avoid the formation of glare.

Do not hang the lamp directly above the mirror: its light will distort the reflection. If you need to do makeup or shave your face with high quality, it is better to place the light source on the sides of the mirror. Experts advise not to use colored lamps for this, but to choose those that create a stream that is as close as possible to the natural daylight in color and intensity.

Placing the LED strip under the side of the bath or under the window sill will help create a “flight effect” and divert attention from the void formed under the designated objects.This solution does not carry any practical functions, but serves only for decoration. But with the help of it, an atmosphere of relaxation is formed. Which is very valuable, especially for a person who is tired of everyday life. You can highlight everything with tape: steps, niches.

Nice and cozy if the lighting in the bathroom is complemented by illumination of cabinets, shelves, nightstands. It is created using built-in lamps that can provide soft, diffused, warm light. It helps make it easier to find the right accessories or household cleaning products.

In the presence of a large number of lamps, it is advisable to connect them with separate lines, then it will be possible to turn them on separately, and not all at once.

Safety regulations

The operation of sanitary facilities has its own characteristics. High humidity is constantly present here. For safety reasons, it must not interact with electricity. Therefore, you need to pay special attention to the observance of the following rules.

The electrical wiring diagram must be drawn up and then assembled on site by professional electricians.

All bathroom lighting must be composed with lighting fixtures that can withstand constant exposure to moisture. Usually, this feature is indicated in the technical passport of the product in the form of an IP index and two numbers. You can safely purchase models in which this index ranges from IP 44 to IP 67.

Do not choose luminaires that have metal parts on the body that are not covered with a protective layer that prevents the development of corrosive processes. Usually cheap models are made from such materials. They are unable to withstand moisture for a long time. Their appearance quickly deteriorates, and their further use becomes unsafe.

The power of devices installed inside the shower cabin should not exceed 12 W.

Do not mount lamps directly above the bathing bowl.

There is no place for open incandescent lamps in the described room. If cool drops of water get on the heated glass, it will burst. If a person is nearby at this moment, some fragments will injure his body, others will scatter throughout the room. That, too, then later can provoke injuries.

Do not make lighting in a small bathroom with exposed wiring. You cannot use adapters, tees, extension cords here.

Appliances most suitable for the bathroom

Experts recommend organizing lighting in the bathroom and in the bathroom using LED lamps. They fit all types of shades. With prolonged use, they do not heat up more than 80 ° C, while the body remains cold. This eliminates the possibility of equipment overheating.

You can use LED lamps for installation in stretch ceiling systems. The film will not turn yellow or deteriorate over time. There are lamps on sale, the models of which are created without the use of glass. Their choice ensures that there is no risk of explosion due to moisture ingress. The described devices easily survive power surges in the wiring network. Therefore, they last longer than incandescent bulbs. LED lamps have a high efficiency, which allowed manufacturers to reduce the size of lighting fixtures.Even the smallest LEDs glow brightly, making it easy to save space without sacrificing light intensity. This is very important when installing lighting in a small bath.

Types and types of luminaires

Manufacturers offer a huge range of lighting products. It will be much easier to choose the right one if you do this after the finishing of the room is completely finished, all the plumbing equipment and furniture filling are installed, decorative accessories are hung.

All luminaires that can be used to illuminate the toilet and bathroom are divided into three large groups.

Built-in models are the most popular and practical. They are usually installed in suspended ceiling systems. They are simply inserted into pre-cut holes and fixed in them using special latches. The case heats up slightly, so the trim elements do not heat up. This feature of recessed luminaires allows you to choose lamp models with a minimum depth.

Overhead models are the second most popular lighting fixtures. Their design consists of two parts: a thin base made of metal and a shade made of translucent plastic. Such a device weighs almost nothing. It is attached to concrete, to the ceiling with self-tapping screws.It is inexpensive. When turned on, it creates an even diffused light, soft, not cutting the eyes.

Suspended models (single-arm or multi-arm luminaires). Their main advantage is the variety of forms of execution. The design can be very different. And all because everything is used for their manufacture: metal, glass, and plastic. Sophisticated designs require a secure attachment to the base.

The choice of something specific is usually dictated by the style of the bathroom. It is also important to take into account the peculiarities of the base on which the equipment is mounted.

In the video, the specialist tells how to make the right lighting in the bathroom:

Installation

The material of the ceiling covering in most cases becomes the determining criterion for choosing a luminaire.If there is no overhead finish and the ceiling is a painted concrete slab, the overhead model in the form of a plate with a matte shade is best suited. Lighting in a small bathroom will be quite intense if the lighting fixture is designed for two 7W LED bulbs. It is installed as follows:

Holes for self-tapping screws are made in concrete with a drill or perforator.

The metal base of the lamp is applied to them and screwed to the base with self-tapping screws.

Electricity in the house is completely cut off by means of the automatic machine.

The electrical wire is connected to the plafond.

The electricity is switched on and the operation of the device is checked.

It will be more difficult to attach lighting equipment to a plasterboard base.If multi-level lighting is installed in the bathroom, the design of the room will only benefit from this. But it is not so easy to implement such an idea. To begin with, a lighting project is drawn up, then according to it, the layout of the lamps is marked. Double-insulated wires are led to it, they are laid along a metal profile, with the help of which a frame for installing drywall is formed.

The wires are fixed with cable ties. Before installation, holes are drilled on a drywall sheet for ceiling lamps of the required diameter.After fixing the sheet, wires are threaded through them, which are then stripped and connected to the terminals of the plafond. At the final stage, a light bulb is inserted into the luminaire. The toilet is lit in the same way if drywall is used as a ceiling decoration.

The video clearly demonstrates the stages of mounting a spotlight:

It is even more difficult to install luminaires on a stretch ceiling film. Carrying out such a procedure requires professional skills and the ability to make accurate calculations.Without going into details, the installation of lighting equipment is as follows:

First, the lighting fixture frame is attached to the concrete base.

Then the stretch ceiling is installed.

After the holes are formed in the films.

It is connected to the frame of the device with the help of special insulating rings (they prevent the possible rupture of the film).

At the final stage, light bulbs are inserted into the frame.

Pay attention! In order for the canvas to last longer and not turn yellow when the lighting fixtures are heated, you need to choose LEDs with a base for lighting the bathroom. They do not heat up, which means that the film next to them will not lose its physical properties.

Briefly about the main points

Even in a small bathroom, lighting must be properly organized.In the first turn, specialists carry out calculations that show the number and power of the installed lamps.

Since the bathroom is a room with high humidity, it is imperative to take into account safety requirements.

Not all lighting fixtures are suitable for the bathroom – in addition to brightness and safety, you need to choose lamps depending on the ceiling finish.

A little more attention!

90,000 Lighting in the toilet, which lamps are most suitable, where is the best place to

Lighting plays an important role in the interior of a modern bathroom. High-quality lamps, lamps, switches contribute to the creation of a good level of illumination. Competently planned lighting in the toilet allows you to comfortably highlight the necessary areas in separate and combined bathrooms. Toilet areas are small, so a minimum of lighting fixtures are usually required.

Variants of matching luminaires and lamps

When planning the lighting scheme in the toilet, it is necessary to take into account whether there will be a bidet or a washbasin with a mirror in the room – this area needs more intense lighting. The washroom is a small room with high humidity and no natural light sources. It is important to comply with fire safety standards when choosing and installing sealed lighting fixtures, if they are located close to sources of moisture. Suitable lamps and luminaires for the toilet room are selected taking into account the intensity of light, power, service life:

  • Incandescent lamp with E14 base, 40W gives a luminous flux of 400 lumens, luminous efficiency is 10 L / W;
  • incandescent lamp with E27 base, 60W will provide a light flux of 630-650 lumens with a luminous efficiency of 11-12 L / W;
  • incandescent lamp with an E27 base with a power of 100W spreads a luminous flux of 1230-1550 lumens with a return of 12-15 L / W;
  • luminescent energy-saving, E14 base, 11W, light flux 600, light output 54.five;
  • fluorescent energy-saving lamp with E27 base, power 20W, luminous flux 1250 and recoil 62.5;
  • 3W waterproof LED downlight for ceiling mounting gives 163 lumens, 54 L / W;
  • LED lamp, E27 base, has a long service life, power 9W, light flux 470 lumens, 52 L / W;
  • waterproof LED strip (power 12W per 1 meter) of front glow of 1200 lumens with a return of 100 L / W;
  • metal halide lamp with G12 socket, 35W distributes the luminous flux of 3400 lumens with a luminous efficacy of 97 L / W;
  • MR-16 halogen reflector lamp with GU 5 base.3, 6.5W (12 volts) provides 280 lumens of flow, 43 L / W output.

Luminaires for the toilet room can be any, but always with a high threshold of resistance to moisture, so that drops of water do not fall on the electrical part of the device. Efficient toilet lighting is a waterproof, energy-saving, sealed system with reliable hidden copper wire insulation.

When choosing lighting devices, you should pay attention to the design of the lamps – the design of the plafond and the dimensions of the electrical device should be in harmony with the interior of the toilet.There should be enough light to comfortably illuminate all zones, but the light radiation is not made too bright, irritating to visual perception.

Halogen Metal Halide Incandescent Bulbs LED Energy Saving

Selecting Location

In a small toilet, you can use several lighting options or be limited to one light source. When choosing lamps with incandescent lamps, devices with a power of no higher than 40 watts are chosen, since the lamps get very hot and can deform the plastic elements of the toilet interior.

Halogen lamps are compact, provide a uniform intense glow, economically consume electricity, they are built-in and open type.

Energy-saving lamps have increased luminous efficiency, long service life, and consume a minimum amount of electricity. Installing an LED lamp in a toilet is one of the most common options. The device gives a good glow, you can use the spot illumination method, mount the device on any surface of the room.After planning the lighting system and purchasing suitable lamps, you need to install the devices. Possible mounting options:

  • upper ceiling lighting – install any device that meets safety requirements (tightness, moisture resistance, power). The solution is suitable for a toilet of any size, but it is important to take into account the height of the ceilings so that the light fills the room evenly, without leaving blind areas. In the toilet, the ceiling lamp can be installed in the center, surrounded by spotlights along the perimeter of the ceiling (for large rooms) or above the entrance to the room with additional illumination of the working areas;
  • lower floor lighting – according to this principle, lighting devices are mounted in two ways – a flexible LED strip is laid along the perimeter of the floor along the plinth, and LED lamps of an original shape – round, square, rectangular – are mounted on the floor.Floor lighting has a predominantly decorative function, does not greatly increase the brightness of lighting, but works effectively in combination with an overhead ceiling light;
  • wall front lighting – sconces, lamps, tapes, spotlights are mounted on the wall. This is ideal for low ceiling toilets. The frontal arrangement of the luminaires visually removes the ceiling and becomes visually more spacious inside. When choosing an LED wall lamp for the toilet, you need to check that the device does not interfere with free movement around the room.The optimal installation location is an LED strip under the ceiling around the perimeter of the room, sconces near the sink, mirrors.

Since the toilet is a small room, there are few options for the location of the lighting fixtures. Unusual lighting fixtures give the interior an original look, built-in lamps look beautiful. For a combined bathroom, you can pick up more design ideas for installing light sources due to the larger space of the room.

Automatic

In a small washroom, three to five light sources are sufficient for an effective lighting system.To make the lighting more comfortable, you can arrange an automatic toilet lighting. The advantages of automation are energy savings, no switches, ease of use, automatic shutdown of devices when leaving the toilet. Features of the organization of the lighting system:

  • after choosing luminaires for the toilet and installing devices on the ceiling, in the floor, on the wall, you need to select automatic lighting sensors;
  • for operation there are three types of sensors that respond to sound, ultrasound, infrared radiation;
  • the sensitivity of the sound sensor covers the range of 40-50 decibels – you can turn on the light with a simple clap of your hands;
  • ultrasonic sensors respond quickly, spreading waves, when crossed, the circuit closes and opens;
  • Infrared sensors react to movement – when a person crosses the range of the device, the light in the toilet turns on.

When choosing automatic lighting, take into account the frequency of false alarms, range and sensitivity, the principle of closing / opening the electrical circuit. Automatic switching on and off the light has important advantages (the light does not remain on, you do not need to look for a switch in the dark to go to the toilet at night) and disadvantages (false alarms are not excluded, you need to make the sensor work with sound or movement).

For the organization of lighting in the toilet, it is not recommended to use lamps with very low voltage, which require the installation of step-down transformers.

When planning lighting to obtain directional light, choose lamps with a controlled light flux. To reduce false alarms of infrared sensors, the device should not be mounted close to heating devices. The lighting in the toilet room, organized in accordance with safety rules and the choice of beautiful lamps, ensures a comfortable visit to the toilet.

How to place 2 spotlights in the toilet.Lighting in the toilet: wiring, lamp, installation

Greetings, comrades! Today I want to talk about how best to organize lighting in the bathroom. We have to get acquainted with the current regulatory documents affecting the lighting standards and the installation of electrical wiring, discuss the choice of lamps and their location.

What does comrade SNiP

think

Let’s start with the regulatory documents: they should be the main source of information on how to install electrical wiring in general and the power supply of the lighting system in particular.

The source of information for us will be two sets of rules and regulations:

  1. SNiP 23-05-95
    contains lighting standards for different rooms;
  2. SNiP 31-110-2003
    is dedicated to the installation of electrical equipment in residential buildings.

For the convenience of the reader, I will summarize the requirements of both documents that are relevant to us in a general list.

  • Minimum illumination value
    for a bathroom and a combined toilet – 50 Lx;

Note: one lux corresponds to the total luminance of the involved light sources of one lumen per square meter.With an area of a small bathroom of 3 square meters, the luminosity of light sources should not be less than 150 lumens, which roughly corresponds to the capabilities of a 15-watt incandescent lamp.

  • Wiring in the bathroom and toilet
    must be hidden. The use of a wire in a metal protective sheath and wiring in a steel pipe are not allowed;
  • Transfer cases
    lighting systems must be outside the bathroom;
  • Length of wires passing through a wet room
    luminaire power supply should be minimal.To reduce their length, it is recommended to mount the luminaires as close as possible to the wall behind which the power supply is wired;
  • Metal housings for luminaires
    must be grounded.

Light and darkness in the hands of a designer

Light, along with finishing colors, is a designer’s favorite tool. With the help of lighting fixtures, you can correct the apparent dimensions of a sub-optimal proportion or just a small bathroom.

Image Description
Brightly lit ceiling
with dimmer wall lighting will make the bathroom taller.
Wall lighting
with a dark ceiling will correct the situation in a high and small stalinka bathroom.
Bright general illumination
A small bathroom will make it seem more spacious. An auxiliary tool is the design of the room – a light finish and an abundance of mirrors.

Diffuse and area lighting

In my opinion, bathroom lighting should be combined:

  • General lighting
    provide multiple spotlights evenly spaced across the ceiling;
  • The mirror above the washbasin has its own lighting
    .

Why is the scheme with a single lamp above the door, familiar to Soviet-built apartments, bad?

If you let go of a Gandalf-style beard, nothing. But for the fair half of the family and men who have a habit of shaving, such a scheme is inconvenient with an abundance of shadows. They interfere equally with shaving and applying makeup.

Additional built-in light sources can be equipped with:

  • Shower ceiling
    .The light in it will simplify some hygiene procedures;

Light sources

Bathroom lighting can be arranged using different light sources:

Image Description
Incandescent lamp
– glass bulb with tungsten spiral.
Halogen
lamp. It differs from the previous one in that the flask is filled with iodine or bromine vapor.The halogen prevents the coil from evaporating and increases its operating temperature.
Luminescent
The
lamp glows thanks to a glow discharge in a bulb with mercury vapor.
LED Downlights
are many low power (no more than 0.5W) LEDs on a common board or flexible strip.

What characteristics are important when choosing light sources?

  1. Failsafe
    .The luminaire must withstand the high humidity typical of the bathroom;
  2. Economy
    . Bathroom lights shouldn’t consume a lot of electricity. The growing price of a kilowatt-hour, willy-nilly, makes you pay attention to its consumption;
  3. Accurate color reproduction
    (that is, the maximum proximity of the illumination spectrum to daylight sunlight). This is important again for the beautiful part of the family: when applying makeup, unnatural lighting makes it possible to choose the right tones.

Let’s start the comparison.

Fault tolerance

Everything is simple here:

  • Incandescent and halogen lamps
    are the undisputed leaders. They lack electronics that are sensitive to humidity, and dampness is not terrible in a sealed flask;
  • Fluorescent and LED
    luminaires are supplied with a driver – power converter. And the driver categorically refuses to work in dampness.

However, moisture-sensitive lamps can work perfectly in luminaires in the IP 67 version: the sealed housing completely excludes the ingress of moisture and water vapor.

Economy

Now let’s compare different light sources in terms of light output per watt of power consumption.

  1. LED Lighting
    leads with a result of 90-100 lm / W;

The luminosity of an LED strip can be even higher – up to 120 lumens per watt.However, the power converter, placed at the low-voltage tapes in a separate power supply unit, contributes to the loss of electricity. In lamps and luminaires, a significant part of the losses falls on the driver located in the housing or lamp base.

  1. Fluorescent lamps
    give 55-80 lumens per watt;
  2. For halogen
    typical luminosity of 15-16 lm / W;
  3. The result of incandescent lamps
    – 10-14 Lm / W – makes them the most disadvantageous light source.

Color rendering

Accuracy of correspondence to the daytime solar spectrum is characterized by the color rendering index (CRI), which takes values in the range of 0-100. The higher the CRI, the more accurate the colors are displayed.

Typical CRI values for different light sources are:

  • Halogen luminaire
    -100;
  • Incandescent lamp
    90-95;
  • Fluorescent lamp
    – 70-90;
  • LED Downlight
    – 50-85.

Why do LEDs give such unnatural lighting? Because they emit light in a very narrow spectral band, while daylight sunlight covers a much wider spectrum.

This feature of LEDs is compensated by applying a phosphor to their bodies, which changes the spectral composition of light; color accuracy is determined precisely by the quality of the phosphor.

Bathroom is a special place in every apartment and every house. Here, paradoxically, a person spends a lot of time.Within these walls, we put our body and mind in order, so the situation must be appropriate. Incorrect light setting, illiterate work on the lighting of the bathroom can lead to dissatisfaction with this room as a whole. The lack of windows, at least in typical rooms, makes us very careful about the matter. So, let’s talk about how to properly make the light in the toilet.
General directions of lighting in a toilet
Lighting in a bathroom has several important functions.

  1. , respectively, the light itself,
  2. decoration of the entire space. Light sets the setting and style. Therefore, various types of lighting are used to decorate the ceiling, walls, floor and even plumbing fixtures. There is an option to focus on one particular detail of the interior, or to emphasize all the surrounding objects in the aggregate. Nowadays, it is very common to decorate a toilet with LED lighting. The effect of lightness and airiness will visually expand the space and create a pleasant, non-direct glow.Despite the fact that the perceived size of the room also depends on the brightness of the lighting, there is a danger of overdoing it. In this case, because of the blinding light, it will be completely impossible to be in the toilet.

Requirements for luminaires

Luminaires located in the bathroom have slightly different requirements than those located in other rooms. Here are just a few properties of toilet luminaires:

  • Humidity resistance
  • Resistance to rust and other types of corrosion
  • Resistance to temperature extremes

Types of lighting in the toilet

Lighting in the toilet is divided into two types:

Meteorite72 – the best online store of LED lighting! Products of the highest quality, impeccable service, the widest assortment, excellent prices, warranty.

Standard version when one or more lamps hang from the ceiling. But for those who are ready to keep up with the times and know about the latest lighting technologies, a lot of LED backlighting options have been developed. With the help of them, you will be able to, as it were, increase the height of the ceiling and expand the room itself.
Floor lighting has always been considered something original and unusual for the Russian man in the street. Although there is nothing unknown for modern masters. Such illumination is practiced in different rooms, and represents the illumination of the room with the help of lamps built into the floor.The perimeter of the toilet can be decorated with lamps, or even a peculiar pattern can be laid out. Although such lighting is very effective, it is not functional and requires additional lighting equipment.

LED lighting – ideal for any bathroom

Various LED sources are used to decorate the toilet.

  • Spotlights (swivel and non-swivel). In addition to the ceiling, they can be installed in furniture niches
  • Ceiling lamps (surface-mounted and recessed)
  • LED linear luminaires.
  • LED Bulbs
  • LED strips

When decorating a toilet, LED lamps are the best option, since they will fill the entire room with light, zone it if necessary, while a single lamp will illuminate the middle of the room, and the corners will be darkened. In addition to the ceiling, they can be placed on the walls of the toilet. For the mood and the desired color, you can use LEDs that breathe life into the room, and illuminate not only furniture, but also plumbing in the right tone.
An important point, you should not place lamps and LED strips in front of a mirror. The reflected light will dazzle, it is better to arrange its perimeter with them. This method of decorating space is used by most designers.

Hidden lighting can make the space more airy and the atmosphere pleasant. Thanks to it, you can create a special mood in the interior, make it spectacular and attractive. How can you achieve all this, and how to apply hidden lighting in your home? We found a lot of interesting examples!

When there is a second level in an apartment or house, then there must be a staircase.Equipping it with lighting is a practical technique that comes in handy in the dark. In addition, it will make the flight of stairs more original and interesting in design.

Stylish solutions for bathroom and toilet

Where is the best place to use concealed lighting? Small spaces where natural light does not enter, such as bathrooms and toilets. These rooms do not differ in a large square, they constantly lack space, but the situation can be changed at least visually.Ceiling lighting, floor lighting, plumbing fixtures or mirrors are perfect for this. First of all, the space will look light and airy, and secondly, the interior will visually become larger and more spacious.

In the bedroom, hidden lighting is used not so often, but in vain, because it is able to create a harmonious and cozy atmosphere in the space. If you install it under the bed, it will seem that this piece of furniture is floating in the air. Also, the hidden lighting looks good in the headboard area, and can become a stylish accent in the dark.

Where else do you need hidden lighting? In wardrobes, small niches and walk-in closets. Here, sometimes you just can’t do without it. It helps you find the things you want and also brightens small spaces. It can be easily installed on the ceiling, on a shelf or in the back of a cabinet.

Where I use hidden lighting most often is in small kitchens. And this technique is quite justified, so it is convenient to illuminate the work area here, as well as the place at the stove and at the sink.Sometimes the lighting is done on the bottom wall of the hanging cabinets so that the space acquires visual lightness.

I would like a harmonious and cozy atmosphere to always reign in the living room. It is not difficult to achieve it with the help of hidden lighting, it will come to the rescue when it will be necessary to create an intimate and relaxing environment. In addition, in diffused light, it is pleasant to just relax or watch your favorite movie.

Hidden lighting is such a versatile tool that it can be used not only in every room, but also in the exterior.It will look great on a balcony or in a private courtyard, it will illuminate the house in the dark and make the environment in the courtyard special.

We have made more They are worthy of attention!

To create a full-fledged atmosphere, lighting should be thought out in any room, because it is impossible to do without it, especially in the evening, and in a room where there are no windows without it even during the day. This mostly applies to the toilet, so when starting the repair, you should think in advance about what kind of lighting in the toilet will be.After all, this is just the case when there is very often no window in the room.

It should be noted that the lighting should not be contained in one light bulb with a plafond in the center of the ceiling. Of course, such a technique is also possible, but if you want to add something new to its interior, then you should think about other methods. What is in the article today and we will talk about them.

Important features of lighting in the toilet

In addition to providing light and creating a comfortable and supportive environment in the toilet, the light source also has other design and design tasks.

After all, thanks to the right light in its interior, you can create a very stylish environment. If you value beauty in everything, then the design in this room should be thought out to the smallest detail. Therefore, to ensure the beauty of this room, you can use various lighting techniques. This applies to both the ceiling and walls, and maybe the floor. Backlighting will allow you to create an emphasis on a particular detail.

Lighting in the toilet

This solution will also allow you to play with visual perception, because if the toilet and bathroom are separate, then for the first, there is usually quite a bit of space.And a cramped room rarely causes pleasant sensations, so the correct lighting design in combination with the right finishing materials will visually expand the walls and raise the ceiling. Which in turn will make the environment more pleasant. In this way, you can easily get rid of the unpleasant feeling of tightness. The more brightly lit the toilet, the larger it seems. True, it is worth saying that the lighting should not be aggressive, after all, this is a room for relaxation, so you should not hit the bright light from bulbs in your eyes.Everything should be covered with shades or other diffusing elements.

Luminaires for the toilet

Which luminaires to use in the toilet?

To create a complete and comfortable environment, it is necessary to use different lighting fixtures for the toilet. You can, of course, do with one, but then it must be powerful enough and at the same time not emit intense, aggressive light.

Lamps for the toilet photo

If the room is rather cramped, then it is better to refuse wall lamps, because even flat models will conceal the space.Therefore, preference should be given to ceiling. It can be either several point models or special LED lighting located along the perimeter of the ceiling. Most often, such models are installed on stretch and plasterboard ceilings.

Lighting in the toilet

It is not uncommon in modern apartments to find a stained glass window with illumination on the ceiling. This will not only make the room bright, but also very effectively decorate the room.

It is worth mentioning one more innovation, lately light panels have become very popular.So, such a light panel located on the back wall will allow you to illuminate and decorate the interior.

The lighting in the toilet can be located in any other place, most often it is a place under a wall cabinet, shelves, if the toilet is suspended, then it is also installed there.

Any room in your home must fully meet the requirements of comfort and safety.This is necessary for a person to feel normal in their home, to be able to fully rest and do their daily activities.
In the design of home premises, a special place is occupied by lighting, which will allow the room to fully meet the assigned requirements and create the proper conditions for rest and work. Many people do not think about the fact that high-quality lighting should be throughout the house, including even lighting in rooms such as the pantry, bathroom and toilet.

It is about what kind of lighting in the toilet should be and will be discussed in this article.After reviewing the information that will be presented below, you can make high-quality lighting in this room with your own hands.

Features of the room

Spacious bathroom

To create full-fledged lighting for the toilet, you need to think over all the nuances and features of this room. In apartment buildings, a toilet with a bathtub takes up very little space. Therefore, here the creation of the desired interior and its illumination has a lot of obstacles and reservations. The situation of combining a bathroom with toilets is especially often observed.This will visually expand the space a little, making it more comfortable and convenient.
At the same time, already modern apartments and private houses have a spacious toilet with a bathroom. Here you can use different approaches and lighting fixtures to create the optimal lighting level.

So, the most important aspect that should be assessed in this matter is the dimensions of the room.
And only then it is necessary to correlate the interior of the toilet (one or combined with a bathroom) with the types of lamps and options for their installation.
Pay attention! The correct lighting of the room will allow you to achieve a visual expansion of the space and many other things that will significantly improve the visual perception of a toilet with a bathroom.
Indoor ceilings and heights should also be evaluated. The worst option in this situation is small dimensions and low ceilings.
A toilet with a bathroom, along with a kitchen, are those areas that have specific requirements for lighting fixtures.They should definitely be taken into account when planning a lighting system. Luminaires for such premises must meet the following requirements:

Waterproof luminaire

  • high degree of protection against moisture. Here it is necessary to buy only luminaires with an IP 65/66 index. This indicates that the appliance is capable of withstanding direct water ingress;
  • resistance of luminaires to sudden changes in temperature. This parameter should be taken into account when a toilet is combined with a bath;
  • high tightness of devices.Due to the tightness, the luminaires will be resistant to dirt and moisture. Penetrating inside the lamp, water and dirt can harm the electronic components of the luminaires, which will directly affect the lifespan of the lighting fixtures;
  • do-it-yourself connection of lamps should be done with extreme caution, preventing contact of wires with water.

Taking into account the requirements of the room (with or without a bathroom), you can make optimal lighting in your toilet with your own hands.

Backlight levels

Before you start choosing luminaires for the toilet, you need to decide on the lighting levels. Several levels can be arranged in this room:

Ceiling light

  • ceiling lighting (top). Ceiling lamps for these purposes can be used in different ways, the main thing is that they meet the requirements of the room. This is, so to speak, the original of the standard, which is often found in a small toilet.But when choosing the type of luminaire, it is necessary to take into account the fact at what level the ceilings are located;

Pay attention! Placing luminaires on the ceiling will allow you to avoid reducing the space on the side of the walls. This is the perfect solution for a small toilet.

In this case, you need to know that any level of suspension can be organized with your own hands. But remember that ceilings and walls are better places to place fixtures than floors.

Luminaire selection

Spotlights

Proper lighting is the basis for good toilet lighting. Their type and appearance depends on the selected backlight level:

  • ceiling type. Small-sized ceiling chandeliers or spotlights should be used here. If in the first case one chandelier installed in the center is enough for a small toilet, then in the second case there are several devices placed along the entire ceiling;

Pay attention! To install spotlights, the ceilings must be suspended.

  • wall type.Wall sconces can be used here. This is a great option for a small toilet with low ceilings. But here you should choose flat models that will not protrude much from the wall space. Otherwise, such a sconce will interfere with free movement around the room;

Wall sconce

The number of lighting devices must be selected based on the dimensions of the toilet and the norms that are spelled out in special regulatory documents (SNiP).
Since the toilet is not the place where people spend most of the time, there is no fundamental need to pay close attention to the appearance of the lamps. The main thing is functionality, and only then appearance. For this room, simple lighting fixtures are suitable, which, however, must still fit into the existing interior. This condition is more applicable to a small toilet, but beautiful decorative lamps of any type of lighting can be used for a combined room.

Installation of lamps

Connecting lamps in the toilet and bathroom is an important stage on which the duration of the products depends. If you decide to connect the lamps with your own hands, then you need to be extremely careful so as not to get an electrical injury.
Here the main role is played by wiring. The luminaire itself is installed according to the standard scheme, which is given in the instructions for the device.
Wiring is done as follows:

  • First, we draw the layout of the luminaires;

Layout

Pay attention! In the bathroom and toilet, the wires from the floor level must be at a distance of at least 1.5 m.

  • Remember that all wire connections to each other and to the box must be well insulated. Insulation can be done with special PVC insulating tape. In this case, before connecting, the ends of the wires must be cleaned with a knife or nippers by 1-2 cm;
  • wires in prepared grooves are fixed using dowel-clamps;
  • this procedure must be repeated for the wires for the remaining lighting fixtures;
  • We cover the grooves with a moisture-resistant filler.

Finished luminaire

For everything to work out, you must strictly observe safety precautions when working with electricity, as well as adhere to the rules for wiring.
As you can see, creating high-quality lighting for a toilet is not so difficult. Knowing the features of this room and the requirements for lighting, your toilet will be properly lit.

How to make the right lighting for a toilet

The more light there is in the toilet, the more it seems.It is important to take care of the availability of sufficient light, because the toilet is the room where we go quite often. Here you should not think that you can paint the walls in a pleasant color and that’s it. If, at the same time, a yellow light bulb hangs from the ceiling, then the toilet immediately changes and is perceived differently. In addition, lighting fixtures should not need to be repaired and should be durable.

It is important to choose the right bulbs. They recommend choosing options that mimic natural light.Today, they often began to install switches that are illuminated by an indicator. Thus, it will be easier for a person to find the switch at night.

In the washroom, it is important to create bright, but not dazzling lighting, and it should be evenly distributed throughout the room. The choice of a lamp for a toilet has its own characteristics, which should not be forgotten.

Types of lighting in the toilet

It is important to understand what types of lighting are available.When it comes to the toilet, then there are 3 options – point, decorative, general. Each has its own function. Lighting classification may look like this:

Ceiling lighting

Its goal is to uniformly and efficiently illuminate the washroom using spotlights that have been embedded in the ceiling. This option is usually used when the room is small. Here it is worth choosing lighting fixtures taking into account the interior and design;

All spotlights

Wall lighting

Such lighting can play the role of main or additional.This is ideal when the ceilings in the toilet are rather low and there is no possibility to use other lights. You can mount rare lamps, LED strips, plafond. It is important to consider here what material was used to decorate the room, as well as the width of the walls. If the walls are not very wide, then experts recommend buying LED strips for such a toilet. If the decoration was carried out with plastic, then you can install luminaire models that do not deepen. After all, such a small room as a toilet should be distinguished by its safety.And this is due to the fact that the light is correctly mounted;

All wall lights

Floor lighting

This is where the backlight comes in and can perfectly complement the main lighting. This option is not often found in houses, apartments. This is more the prerogative of clubs, bars, restaurants. Although it would look very impressive in the toilets of ordinary apartments. Here, LED spotlights are built into the floor, and as an option, the installation of LED strips in the corners of the toilet room.The room will look more chic with this kind of lighting.

They also classify lighting in the toilet, taking into account the types of lamps:

  • halogen. Such products illuminate the room with high quality, but at the same time consume little energy. This is their main feature. This option can be used even in the case of high humidity. This moment contributes to the popularity of halogen lamps;
  • LED. They also consume little energy.Such lighting is often used in the case of spot, decorative lighting. Products do not heat up, they can change the shade of light;
  • luminescent. Compared to diode lamps, these will cost less. But despite this, Tony is also quite economical in terms of electricity consumption. Consumers often buy them because they are beneficial and practical.

Automatic lighting

If we are talking about a small toilet, then 3-5 light sources can be installed here and this will be quite enough.If you want comfort, then you can create a toilet light that starts automatically. This option has its advantages – when a person leaves the toilet, the devices turn off automatically, they are easy to use, there are no switches, and electricity is saved. This lighting system has its own characteristics:

  • when you have chosen fixtures, installed them (on the wall, on the floor, on the ceiling), you should think about automation sensors;
  • there are 3 types of sensors – infrared radiation, ultrasound and sensors that react to sound;
  • if we talk about a sound sensor, then its sensitivity is capable of covering 40-50 decibels.That is, you just have to clap your hands and the light turns on;
  • in the case of ultrasonic sensors, they start very quickly. The presence of waves is noted here. When a person crosses them, the waves create a circuit that closes and then opens;
  • infrared react when there is any movement. When a person enters the area to which the action of the sensor extends, light immediately appears.

When you choose the option of automatic lighting, you must take into account some points – the principle of the electrical circuit, sensitivity, range of action, how often the device is falsely triggered.To get a directional light as a result, it is recommended to take lamps where the light flux is regulated. For fewer false alarms in the case of the infrared version of the sensor, it is necessary to install the sensors away from the devices heated by the room. If the lighting in the toilet is organized with the help of a beautiful lamp and in accordance with safety rules, then it will be quite comfortable to be here.

90,000 Small Toilet Wall Lights & LED Ceiling Lights, Other Options

Everyone dreams of a home in which one would always feel comfortable.To do this, when creating an interior, it is important to pay attention to many details, especially when it comes to lighting in non-residential rooms such as a pantry, bathroom and toilet. Properly planned lighting in the bathroom not only allows you to highlight certain areas, but also favorably emphasize the beauty of decorative finishes.

Basic requirements

Lighting in the toilet plays a huge role, because in this room, compared to living quarters, it is always gloomy and dark.The choice of lighting fixtures for bathrooms directly depends not only on their area, the type of finishing of the ceiling, walls and floor, but also on the level of humidity. Any luminaires can be installed in the toilet, but they must meet the following requirements:

  • Highly resistant to moisture, the electrical part of the body must be protected from water droplets;
  • correspond to the design of the room, the size, color and shape of the shades must be in harmony with all interior items;
  • Provide good illumination, but at the same time exclude excessively bright light radiation, which can irritate the visual perception.

Most often, a lighting level of 150 lux is chosen for bathrooms with a recommended spectrum of light emission from 2700K to 4500K. The ripple factor should not exceed 10%, and the light transmission index should not exceed 80 Ra. If you choose the right lighting fixtures, then the toilet will always be light and comfortable.

Overview of views

Recently, the market has been represented by a chic assortment of lamps and lamps, thanks to which you can not only create a stylish design, but also fill a room with an atmosphere of comfort. Different lighting techniques are used for this room, therefore, in each case, a certain type of lighting fixtures are individually selected.

Ceiling

For the installation of overhead lighting, you can use all types of lighting devices, the most important thing is that they meet the requirements of safe operation, which include tightness and moisture resistance.When choosing lamps for the ceiling, it is important to take into account the height of the room, since the light should 90 073 evenly fill the space, leaving no blind zones.

In bathrooms, ceiling lamps are usually placed in the center, while spotlights are additionally installed above the entrance to the room and along the perimeter of the ceiling.

Wall-mounted

Front lighting in the toilet, which can be created using spotlights, LED strips, lamps and sconces, is recommended to be mounted on the wall. This lighting option is ideal for rooms with low ceilings, which visually lengthen, and create a spacious effect inside the room. When installing light fixtures on a wall, it is important to make sure does not interfere with the free movement of . For example, sconces are placed near the mirrors and sinks, and 90,073 LED strip is placed under the ceiling.

Floor Standing

For decorating toilets, floor (bottom) lighting is often used, which goes well with ceiling .

It can be installed in several ways:

  • mount a rectangular LED luminaire in the floor,
  • square or round,
  • lay a flexible LED strip along the plinth.

Each of these methods can achieve good lighting levels in rooms as small as a toilet.

Description of luminaires and lamps

For lighting in the toilet, you need to select luminaires in such a way that they not only serve as a good source of light, but also meet all the requirements of .The most common lighting devices that are installed in the bathroom include several options.

Incandescent lamps

These electrical products have a tungsten spiral, their cavity is filled with an inert gas, due to the conditions of a deep vacuum when an electric current is applied in such lamps, rupture and oxidation of the spiral is excluded. The power of the devices can be from 15 to 1000 W, for lighting in the toilet, it is recommended to purchase lamps with a power of no more than 40 W (for more powerful products, the incandescence temperature reaches +200 C, which is very dangerous for stretch ceilings and plastic wall panels.

The advantages of this type of lighting fixtures include reliability and long service life, and the disadvantages include a high price.

Halogen lamps

The main advantages of the products include the minimum consumption of electrical energy, luminescence efficiency, compactness and increased protection against moisture. Despite the fact that this type of lamps cannot be attributed to the budget option, they are very popular. But when choosing these lighting devices, you should pay attention to the manufacturer, since there are often cheap fakes on the market that quickly fail and make noise during operation.

Halogen lamps are available in two types: open and recessed (located in suspended ceilings, the design of which can be represented by different materials).For bathrooms, spotlights are considered an ideal choice, which have the ability to change the direction of the luminous flux.

Energy saving lamps

These are flasks filled with mercury vapor under pressure. It is unsafe to use such devices, they last much longer than halogen lamps, but mechanical stress should be avoided during their operation.The pluses of this type of include an increased threshold for light temperatures and good light output. For lighting in the toilet, it is recommended to purchase fluorescent lamps, which are marked with the designation “D”.

LED lights

These are the finest toilet lighting fixtures. Their luminous efficiency is many times higher than incandescent lamps and can be up to 150 lm / W. In addition, the LED luminaire has a long service life and looks gorgeous in a modern design. You can also decorate the toilet ceilings around the perimeter with LED strip. The main disadvantage of such lamps is the negative effect of white light on the eyes.

In addition to the above lighting devices, LED-backlighting for a toilet bowl with a motion sensor is often installed in bathrooms, it has automatic activation.Such illumination does not increase the brightness of the lighting in the room and has mainly a decorative function.

How to arrange?

Before starting the installation of lighting fixtures in the toilet, should carefully consider their location. For small bathrooms, the best solution is installation of three to five spotlights .In addition to the main lighting in such rooms, you should additionally install automatic lighting, thanks to which it will be possible to significantly save the consumption of electrical energy. It is also worth noting that the automation of lighting in the bathroom facilitates the operation of devices (there is no need to install switches).

In toilets that are combined with a bathtub and have a large area, wall lamps should be added to the main ceiling lighting (this is usually a powerful lamp located in the center).It is best to place them next to a mirror or near a toilet. Looks gorgeous in the design of spacious bathrooms and lighting on the shelves.

Light panels that are installed on the back wall are also very popular now. They allow you to decorate the interior in an original way.

For toilets in private houses, the area of which is usually several times larger than in city apartments, it is recommended to purchase several lamps. Some of them can be placed on the ceiling, complemented by an LED strip. In addition, you can place in such bathrooms and 4-5 spot floor lamps. They will favorably emphasize the features of the decoration and the interior of the room. In toilets combined with a bathroom, it is recommended to make three lighting options at the same time:

  • ceiling – built-in lamps and chandeliers,
  • wall – sconce,
  • floor – LED strips.

In narrow and elongated rooms, it is recommended to place small wall luminaires, they must be installed on both sides. If the layout of the toilet provides for the presence of such interior items as half-columns and columns, then spotlights must be placed in such a way that there are no dark areas in the room. Today, in a modern interior, you can often find a circular, staggered arrangement of spotlights.

Installation recommendations

Installation of lighting in the toilet is easy to do with your own hands, but for this you need to have experience and knowledge of connecting electrical appliances. Toilet is a damp room, so if you install the luminaires incorrectly, there can be bad consequences. The order of installation work is as follows:

  • First of all, a diagram of the wiring and arrangement of lighting devices is being prepared;
  • then the wire is installed (in plastic ceilings, the wires must be fixed on special fasteners in the corrugation) and the output to the box;
  • the installation is completed by connecting to the phase, this must be done with the power off in the bathroom.

In addition, it is worth considering that the wiring must run at least 1.5 m from the floor. All connections, including those in the box, must be carefully insulated. To hide the wiring, the walls must be covered with a moisture-resistant putty.

90,000 What should be the lighting in the interior?

Anna Feoktistova, our friend and founder of the Khvoya brand, tells about where and what lamps are appropriate to use and what design will suit whom?

Lighting is the most important tool for shaping space. Its task is not just to illuminate, but to create a pleasant environment for life.

Lighting is divided into natural and artificial:

1. The first is street (day) light. Without it, it is impossible to stay in the room for a long time. Sunlight solves many problems.

  • light is a natural antibiotic that disinfects the room. According to sanitary rules and building regulations, the insolation (illumination by direct sunlight) of the living quarters must be at least 2 hours a day. With this in mind, all microdistricts and residential buildings on the territory of Russia are being designed.
  • Natural light has a good effect on human health and psychological state, increases immunity and reduces the risk of depression.

2. Second – all light sources inside the house. It is they and their competent placement that will help make the interior not only beautiful, but also comfortable for life (by this I mean the level of a person’s physical and psychological state). Let’s talk about this.

Where to start? Features of modern lighting in the interior

Start with yourself and define your own needs!

Think about what you like to do, find the right area for it.Always try to answer the question “Why?”, Then the errors will be minimal.

For example: “There will be a sconce, because on this wall I want to hang my favorite reproduction and highlight it with light. And this simple sconce will be white, like a wall, because the main thing is the picture and the accent should be on it.”

Lighting scenarios in apartment

Multiple scenarios can be created in one space:

  1. bright main lighting (chandeliers and any ceiling lighting).

  2. muted evening, when bright light is not needed (sconces, floor lamps, decorative lamps, hidden lights).

  3. Accent lighting on a zone or object. When you need to highlight something (ceiling and wall luminaires with directional light).

  4. festive (decorative lamps, garlands)

When we talk about lighting options, we assume that different luminaires will turn on from different switches.You can also use pass-through switches for convenience. You can turn on the lighting from two switches located at opposite ends of the room. Such switches are convenient to use in long rooms, corridors, bedrooms.

Using dimmers will also help in creating different lighting scenarios. The invention, of course, is not new, but very useful. With a dimmer switch, you can adjust the illumination from each lamp. It is important to remember here that not all lamps are dimmable. Most LED bulbs are non-dimmable.

Thinking over the scenarios and making the wiring of electricity is one of the first stages in the repair.

What kind of light sources are there?

The main source (or sources) of lighting. They give maximum light. And additional local lights that organize secondary lighting scenarios.

Types of luminaires:

1. Chandeliers

2. Hanging lamps

3.Surface mounted ceiling luminaires for general lighting

4. Surface mounted spotlights

5. Recessed spotlights (spots)

6. Track lights

7. Wall lamp

8. Floor lamps

9. Table lamps

10. Decorative lighting – built-in LED lighting, holiday lighting, garlands

There are general guidelines and rules for the placement of luminaires. But I urge: choose lamps, starting from the style of the interior and needs.

What to choose for the main lighting in the living room?

1. Chandelier

Chandelier – one of the types of pendant lamps designed to create shadowless lighting.

The chandelier is the centerpiece. It can become an accent in the interior, highlight a certain area, act as the main source of lighting. For example, it will fit perfectly over the coffee table in the sofa area and will become the main compositional element of the recreation area.There is a truth and a minus: the possibility of rearranging furniture is limited by the fact that the chandelier organizes the space around it.

In which interior is it appropriate to use a chandelier?

It is customary to emphasize space with a chandelier, so it should be enough. Classic chandeliers are more vertically elongated, so they need high ceilings. Chandeliers in modern styles are both horizontal and vertical.

If we talk about styles, then designers are experimenting more and more and, along with understandable things, combine seemingly incongruous! It is quite possible to find a classic chandelier in a concrete apartment, or, conversely, a modern geometric one – in the walls with wide cornices and openwork moldings.

Using a classic chandelier in a traditional interior, you can hardly worry about the result – for sure it will fit well there! But if you want to make an unusual accent element, be careful! The rest of the interior in this case should become the background, here and there in the little things only emphasizing the style of the chandelier.

The installation height depends a lot on the situation. Usually at least 2.2 m from the floor, so as not to hurt your head or hands. However, if the chandelier is hanging over a coffee table in the living room, it is appropriate to do it lower.

A single chandelier in the center of the room will not solve the lighting issue. This is the main element that gives a lot of light, but with it one corner will remain in the shadow. Therefore, additional light sources are needed.

2. Spot lighting (spots)

Spotlights are small luminaires with a directional light that have a certain angle of light propagation and a radius of illumination.

Types of ceiling spotlights:

  1. 91 389 embedded spots

  2. surface-mounted luminaires

  3. track systems

The peculiarity of the luminaires is that they can be used both as main lighting and as accent lighting.The main thing is to choose the right lamp. Lamps come in different dispersion angles. For example, a conventional incandescent lamp has a scattering angle of 360 degrees, i.e. it shines in all directions and gives a general flood light. Halogen and LED spotlights with GU10 and GU5.3 base have a narrower angle. Most often, it varies from 20 to 150 degrees. The range from 20 to 40 is suitable for local illumination of a picture or decorative elements. The main lighting needs an angle of more than 60 degrees.

Spot and track lights are appropriate for almost any interior, be it an interpretation of the classics, loft or minimalism.You can make them completely invisible or, conversely, accentuated.

If you use luminaires as the main lighting, it is important to correctly calculate how many luminaires are needed and at what distance from each other they should be located. As a rule, the distance between the spotlights is no more than 1.5 m. There are, of course, calculation formulas, but it is most correct to contact the lighting store, where the manager will help determine the required power and the number of lamps for your room.

Total:

Use a chandelier in a tall large room in combination with additional lighting elements.

Spotlights are suitable for rooms with low ceilings, rooms with frequent rearrangements, for accent lighting.

3. Wall lamps (sconces) – what and why?

Wall luminaires – sources of additional lighting, wall or wall mounted.There are two types – built-in or overhead (sconces).

Surface sconces are available in different designs:

  1. Carob. The most common and common type of sconce.

  2. Wall (surface). Appropriate in cases where the room is narrow so as not to interfere with the passage. Most often used in corridors and stairwells.

  3. Lighting for pictures.

  4. Stationary.Sconces that do not have additional scenarios are illuminated in only one position.

  5. Adjustable. The design of such a sconce has movable elements, which can be controlled by changing the lighting.

  6. With reflected light. These sconces give a soft, light light. Most often, wall sconces are found with reflected light.

  7. With directional light.

The type of sconce largely depends on the interior style and purpose.

Switch the main light to a wall lamp for a subdued, cozy atmosphere. They will help organize a work area, a place for reading, and highlight an interesting texture of the wall.

If you want to use a wall sconce in your work area instead of a table lamp, try the option that can be adjusted up to 60 cm from the wall so you can control the light as needed.

Remember, the luminaire must not interfere with the passage. If the room is narrow, use surface sconces that do not protrude much.Or skip them altogether and add accent ceiling lighting.

Any luminaire needs space, so choose a location for the sconce so that it is not “crowded” on the wall.

Kitchen and dining group

In the kitchen area, there should be general lighting and illumination of the work surface. This is a set you need for convenience and food preparation.

In addition to even lighting with lamps, it would be nice to place the lamp above the dining room.It can be a pendant lamp or a sconce.

The lamp should be installed in the kitchen at a height of 1.3-1.4 m from the floor (50-70 cm from the table top).

If we talk about the lamps above the bar, then here the height should be made a little higher – 1.6-1.8 m from the floor.

If the table is against the wall, a sconce can be used. An interesting solution is a cantilever wall lamp with an extension of up to 1 meter in length. The installation height of such a luminaire is also 50-70 cm.from the countertop.

If your room is small in size – do not overload it, use small lamps or lamps in light colors or with glass shades. Openwork lamps made of metal or wood can look spectacular.

Many manufacturers produce a series of lamps, in the same material, but in different sizes and shapes, and invite us to experiment and get creative. Mix and match and hang at different heights!

What can you experiment with?

With a wire!

Pendant lamps with textile braided wires look spectacular.It can be twisted wire or simple round braided wire. The number of color options is huge!

Open wiring can be an interesting design element. Attach it to the surface of the wall or ceiling with clips for exposed wiring, if the cable is twisted – using insulators.

Important to know!

If you use a ceiling lamp or a chandelier in the center of the kitchen as your main lighting, do not hang pendant lamps above the dining group! They will “argue” with each other.The best solution would be sconces.

If the main lighting is spotlights, pendant lights above the dining room would be a great option!

Corridor lighting

Let’s consider several options. Let’s say we have a wide spacious hall with a width of at least 1.5 meters with a console table for keys or a bench. For such a room, central lighting with a chandelier or an overhead lamp is suitable. You can make sconces on the walls.Place them, for example, over a table or by a mirror. The installation height of the sconces can vary from 1.6 to 1.8 m above the floor level.

If your hall is narrow and long, the best option would be to use recessed or surface mounted spotlights.

In a minimalistic interior, recessed lamps will be appropriate. It can be both spotlights and linear ones.

Tip! If you have a long corridor, you can visually reduce it by making the far wall accent and highlighting it.All bright or illuminated surfaces appear closer visually.

Lighting in the bedroom

The bedroom can also have main lighting in the form of a chandelier or spotlights. Although it is often not done in order to initially create a cozy atmosphere for relaxation and sleep. In this case, the issue of lighting is solved by decorative lamps. It can be sconces, spot lighting of individual interior elements, hidden LED lights. And, of course, bedside lamps so that, for example, you can read a book.

The convenient height for reading wall sconces can be about 100-120 cm from the floor.

Bedside lamps can be pendant, wall, table. By the way, they can be placed asymmetrically – on one side of the bed – a lamp, on the other – a table lamp.

If we talk about pendant lights, you can combine 2-3 lights together. The recommended installation height of the plafond is 90 cm from the floor. In this case, it is a good idea to think of a small hook for fixing them so that they do not swing from side to side when you accidentally hit them or open a window and the wind blows.

The main thing for bedside lamps is that they can be turned on without getting out of bed. Choose luminaires with a switch on the body. Or make a pass-through switch – one at the entrance to the bedroom, the second above the head of the bed.

Light in the nursery

The child’s room is a whole world with many tasks and functions – it is a bedroom, a playroom, and a workplace. There should be general lighting in the form of a chandelier or spotlights, and a sconce by the bed (or a pendant lamp), and a table lamp and possibly some other additional decorative lighting.

It is advisable to choose a wall lamp by the bed in the nursery with a power button on the body and a swivel one, so that you can adjust the direction of the light. The height of the sconces is at least 50 cm above the bed.

Shower and toilet

In the toilet, in addition to general lighting, it is good to have a mirror illumination. It can be a sconce or a light mounted in a mirror. Its main purpose is to shine on the face without creating falling shadows.Therefore, it is good if the sconce will be with a common flood light or with the ability to rotate the plafond.

Interesting solutions can be obtained with LED backlights. It is only important to remember that something beautiful makes sense to highlight. This can be a wall made of unusual material (for example, stone, wood, or embossed) or a separate interesting element on the wall.

When choosing luminaires for wet rooms, you must also look at the level of protection against moisture.It is designated as IP44, where the first is protection against the penetration of solid objects and dust on a scale from 0-6, the second is the degree of protection against moisture on a scale from 0 to 8. More about this in our other post on the class of protection of devices – here … If the luminaire is marked with IP44, it is suitable for wet rooms.

Where can I find fixtures?

A logical question! Well, first of all, of course, in the legko.com store. And there are several industries that I would like to pay special attention to.High-quality thoughtful design. But judge for yourself!

When it comes to recessed, surface-mounted and track systems, I would recommend two brands. The first is a more economical option, the second is more premium. Both are noteworthy.

SLV is a German brand of recessed and surface mounted luminaires. Minimalist design and great quality!

Centrsvet is another manufacturer of spot and recessed luminaires in the minimalist and functionalist styles.

A pendant lamp or chandelier is an important topic, I have already said that they can become an accent around which the rest of the space will form.The choice of pendant lights is very large, it is easy to get confused. Therefore, I will tell you a little about design icons, which are always heard and always appropriate, and about lamps that I like, but have not yet gained such popularity.

If three or four years ago, loft-style lamps were at the peak of popularity, now a return to the styles of the 60-80s of the last century is popular. Designers aren’t afraid to mix retro styles with minimalism, classic or loft. Many manufacturers make replicas of lamps created by famous designers of the 20th century.The FLOS factory, for example, whose history began in the 70s. XX century.

One of the first luminaires was Zeppelin (pictured above), it is still being successfully produced.

Design of 60-80s and big brands is not limited to everything. Dima Loginov, a famous Russian designer, one of his lamps – Mountain view, designed for the Axolight factory, pictured above. There are young factories in Russia, one of which I myself am the founder: Needles, Woodled, Garage Factory, Tayga Design, Anastasiya Kosheeva, Mayna.There was a separate post about some of them dedicated to wooden lamps. Designers work with traditional Russian materials and technologies. This makes the lamps memorable and sets them apart from their foreign counterparts.

Many are members of the Industrial Designers Club and are gathered in a common space – the Design Library in Moscow.

WOODLED. Pendant lights “Rotor and Sputnik”

Conclusion

Everything is changing rapidly in the world. More recently, in the bedroom, we conservatively put two table lamps or sconces on the bedside tables.And now we are trying asymmetric compositions and lamps of unusual shape! In this article, I have collected the rules that guide the work of a designer. However, sometimes something looks beautiful precisely because it was done contrary to the rules. Toilet lighting: selection of luminaires and installation

  • high degree of protection against moisture. Here it is necessary to buy only luminaires with an IP 65/66 index. This indicates that the appliance is capable of withstanding direct water ingress;
  • resistance of luminaires to sudden changes in temperature. This parameter should be taken into account when a toilet is combined with a bath;
  • high tightness of devices.Due to the tightness, the luminaires will be resistant to dirt and moisture. Penetrating inside the lamp, water and dirt can harm the electronic components of the luminaires, which will directly affect the lifespan of the lighting fixtures;

  • ceiling lighting (top). Ceiling lamps for these purposes can be used in different ways, the main thing is that they meet the requirements of the room. This is, so to speak, the original of the standard, which is often found in a small toilet. But when choosing the type of luminaire, it is necessary to take into account the fact at what level the ceilings are located;

Pay attention! Placing luminaires on the ceiling will allow you to avoid reducing the space on the side of the walls.This is the perfect solution for a small toilet.

  • wall lighting. This level of lighting is suitable for toilets where the ceilings are rather low. When using this level of illumination, it is necessary to correctly place the devices so that they do not interfere with the entrance and exit;

    Wall light

  • floor lighting (bottom). This implies the use of flexible light sources or spotlights built into the floor. This is the most rare type of backlighting and is usually combined with the first two.Suitable for spacious toilets combined with a bathroom. It is quite original and non-standard, although less practical in terms of creating the desired level of illumination. It is often used as a decorative element.

    Floor lighting

In this case, you need to know that any level of suspension can be organized by hand. But remember that ceilings and walls are better places to place fixtures than floors.

Luminaire selection

Spotlights

The basis of good lighting in a toilet is the correct lighting fixtures. Their type and appearance depends on the selected backlight level:

  • ceiling type. Small-sized ceiling chandeliers or spotlights should be used here. If in the first case one chandelier installed in the center is enough for a small toilet, then in the second case there are several devices placed along the entire ceiling;

Pay attention! To install spotlights, the ceilings must be suspended.

  • wall type.Wall sconces can be used here. This is a great option for a small toilet with low ceilings. But here you should choose flat models that will not protrude much from the wall space. Otherwise, such a sconce will interfere with free movement around the room;

Wall sconce

  • LED backlight

    floor type. To create floor lighting, you can use spotlights (with a sturdy housing), which are embedded in the floor or the bottom of the walls.In addition to them, you can use LED strip or flexible neon here.

For this room, simple lighting fixtures are suitable, which, however, must still fit into the existing interior.This condition is more applicable to a small toilet, but beautiful decorative lamps of any type of lighting can be used for a combined room.

Installation of lamps

Connecting lamps in the toilet and bathroom is an important stage on which the duration of the products depends. If you decide to connect the lamps with your own hands, then you need to be extremely careful so as not to get an electrical injury. This is where the wiring plays a major role. The luminaire itself is installed according to the standard scheme, which is given in the instructions for the device.
Wiring is done as follows:

  • First, we draw the layout of the luminaires;

Layout

Pay attention! In the bathroom and toilet, the wires from the floor level must be at a distance of at least 1.5 m.

  • Remember that all wire connections to each other and to the box must be well insulated. Insulation can be done with special PVC insulating tape.
