Customer Reviews

Many visitors have become loyal customers as they’ve experienced the consistency of Aramsa’s high-quality spa services. A customer from Google Reviews shared this story:

“Been going to them for the past 8 years or even more. Love it because most of their therapist stayed the same. And the quality of massage has maintained over the years. Inner respite is what we always go for. Seen some 1 star review by others and understand they do have misses such as the customers got oiling service. will always make it a point to inform the therapist on the spot if we found the pressure to soft, and they will increase pressure to your liking. To be honest, we don’t get any oiling service before because inner respite is deep tissue. So i guess it depends on the massage u go for as well. End of the day, we will not settle for somewhere else because consistency matters a lot for me.”

Review of Singapore’s ESPA Spa

By Rachel Will

Article photos by Dimas Anggakara, gallery photos by ESPA

My preference in spas is in the same vein as restaurants I like: independent, locally sourced, and brimming with personality. My favorite spa is no exception—it is located in a repurposed home in a quaint suburban neighborhood, run by a doting husband and wife team.

So prior to my review of ESPA at Resorts World Sentosa, I had some trepidation about the experience. ESPA is a multinational spa company that has enjoyed an absurd amount of growth since its 1993 conception. British national Susan Harmsworth founded the chain after working most of her career as a fashion and beauty writer and ESPA has grown from one location to more than 350 in a scant 20 years.

ESPA is located on Singapore’s evergreen Sentosa Island. About a 25-minute trip by taxi from Changi Airport, Sentosa’s mostly commercial attractions include a Universal Studios theme park, Hard Rock Hotel, and the world’s largest aquarium.

One of ESPA’s lounges.

Dubbed a “destination spa”, ESPA boasts a 10,000-square-meter facility and is the largest spa in the city-state. Equarius Hotel is kitty-corner to the venue, allowing pampered guests a brief walk over in their robes and slippers to the lobby. Despite the island’s kid-friendly and sometimes frenetic tourism venues, the spa and hotel are surprising tranquil.

ESPA has recently launched Singapore’s first lifestyle retreat packages, allowing guests to create a multiday itinerary with accommodations at Equarius Hotel or a local “staycation” at the day spa.

Each itinerary is centered on four themes: fit for life, weight loss, intro to detox, and de-stress. Naturally, I chose the weight-loss option because it seemed like the best fodder for writing. Body-slimming algae wraps? A regimented diet while in treatment? My curiosity was piqued.

After submitting ESPA’s rigorous four-page previsit questionnaire it seemed my wellness therapist (or a computer glitch) had other plans for me, as I received a “de-stress” itinerary instead.

The glass-encased yoga studio.

Prior to the start of my day’s pampering, I booked a vinyasa flow yoga class through the spa’s activity schedule. The spa was quiet before its 9 a.m. opening and I wandered the deserted grounds looking for the studio. As though conjured to appear, one of the smiling spa managers greeted me by name and brought me upstairs to a glass-encased octagon with a 360-degree view of the property.

I was in heaven practicing pranayama breathing when my instructor arrived. We wasted no time getting into downward dog and flowing through some yoga mainstays. Despite the extreme air conditioning I began to sweat profusely thus beginning my detox for the day.

Following a health-conscious breakfast in my room at Equarius Hotel, I walked back to ESPA for my 30-minute consultation with a wellness therapist. It was the same smiling gentleman who escorted me to yoga that morning, so I was immediately comfortable.

We diligently reviewed each of the previsit questions and he paused at my listed stress level. Speaking with the intimacy of a friend, and the professionalism of a therapist, he asked about my responses and provided me with insights that I still echo in my mind today.

When it came to my sleep schedule, he recommended exercises for relaxation and mind-calming techniques. Though the session lasted less than any of my spa treatments, it has continued to guide my approach to wellness and, incidentally, de-stressing.

Next on the itinerary was a one-hour signature massage. I was brought to a maze of changing rooms, showers, bathrooms, post-treatment rooms, and finally to my personal locker.

American architect Michael Graves’ firm collaborated with Singaporean DP Architects to achieve the tropical tranquility of ESPA. The space smacks of contemporary colonial luxury with dark wood plantation shutters and lazy ceiling fans throughout. Natural elements from bamboo ceilings to drift wood features reflect the verdant surroundings.

Along with the spa’s signature white robe, I was given a funny pair of black androgynous underwear for the treatment. With my own book in hand I headed to the tea lounge where my therapist would meet me shortly. The tea lounge is a sight in itself with modern leather furniture, natural lighting, and round chairs facing a Japanese-style Onsen rock pool. GI-tract friendly ginger tea and herb-infused water are available for guests to sip while they wait for their treatment to begin.

The Tea Lounge.

My therapist soon retrieved me and took me to a private treatment room. The session began by allowing me to choose my massage oils. Kneeling before me she rubbed two of ESPA’s wholly natural line of products on my arm and allowed a sniff test to determine my treatment. Following a close competition, I blindly chose the lemongrass-infused detox product over the geranium body firming oil.

My 60-minute massage (US$160) was arguably one of the best I have ever had. ESPA offers a selection of six massage therapies to choose from including Balinese and aromatherapy. Your massage is also tailored to your retreat goals, so techniques for weight loss or de-stress are employed in-treatment. My therapist was hypersensitive to my consultation needs, allowing me to pinpoint zones down to the lymph node and dutifully refrained from pressure on my lower back.

I asked her about her training following the session and she noted that she has been a therapist for more than 20 years in Singapore. Further, prior to the launch of ESPA, all therapists received an additional 10 weeks of training to align their practice with ESPA’s global standards. It was well noted.

Between treatments I waded around the hot and cold vitality pools attached to the spa. The pools are surrounded by tropical plants and rainforest, making it not only cloaked in greenery for privacy, but a lush aesthetic experience as well.

The Hot Vitality Pool.

I then enjoyed lunch at Tangerine Spa Café, inclusive with ESPA’s retreat package. After asking an attendant about appropriate attire she said guests were welcome to wear robes in the restaurant. To my private amusement my threads were just slightly underdressed compared to the two businessmen also having lunch.

Although I recognize Tangerine’s menu aims to complete the holistic wellness goals of the spa, I was not terribly impressed with the cuisine concept by celebrity chefs Sam and Forest Leong. There is something to be desired following a meal there, whether it be larger portions or a greater range of flavor.

My last treatment of the day was a 45-minute facial (personalized 60-minute facial at US$180) by an equally expert and sensitive therapist. She allowed me to choose my products during an impromptu consultation about my skin and products I use.

I have to admit the session was so relaxing that I drifted into sleep for part of the treatment, but I still relish in the memory of the gentle face massage and delicate products used. She even performed extractions, which are no one’s favorite experience of the treatment, but her soft, swift movements barely registered.

Following my treatment I headed to the relaxation lounge with a view of the spa’s koi-filled lake and bungalow treatment rooms. The overall experience of the retreat relaxed me more than I knew I needed and has planted ideas for improving my lifestyle for the future.

Contemplating the utter luxury that I experienced that day in the lounge, I sipped water and read, eventually drifting back to sleep once more.

The tranquil view from the Relaxation Room.

Review: Capella Singapore’s wellness retreat is a dream for the weary

Capella Singapore is known for many things — the unparalleled view of the sea and beaches, and its luxurious suites are but a few of the many reasons why it’s such a great staycation spot. The escape you get from city life is incredible, yet your environment still feels familiar and comfortable, only slowed down a few notches.

The Rooms

That’s exactly how I felt as I was led to my room. A good start, considering the wellness retreat organised by the six-star premise promised to rejuvenate my weary body. Offering the most spacious hotel accommodations in Singapore, Capella has only 112 guest rooms that range from Premier guest rooms and 15 suites, to 38 majestic villas with private outdoor showers and bathtubs. For the ultimate indulgence, make one of the two heritage Colonial Manors your home for the weekend.

The three-bedroom accommodation within a beautifully restored building comes with a stately dining room and even a mini lap-pool. My Premier bedroom overlooked the sea and part of the beach on one side, and the massive rainforest that encompasses the property on the other, so you can imagine what a sight it was in as dusk fell.

The view from one of Capella’s room.

The room also had all the workings of a six-star hotel technology-wise. A bedside touch panel controls the lighting, air-condition and drapes without the hassle of getting out of that huge plush bed. A BOSE sound system connects to your Bluetooth for convenient music streaming, and amenities such as a Nespresso machine are part of the package.

Health & Wellness

Of course, the best way to begin that journey was by paying the award-winning Auriga Spa a visit for one of their Signature Moon Experiences. Designed in line with products from The Organic Pharmacy to reflect the varying energies of the lunar cycle, Auriga recommends you opt for the treatment that corresponds to the moon’s particular stage — new, full, waxing, and waning.

Auriga Spa is a sanctuary you never want to leave.

The New Moon treatment I received was designed with the aims of renewal and introspection. A lively concoction of Juniper, Rosemary and Fennel is created to awaken the spirits, and as the aroma filled my sanctuary for the next 90 minutes, the therapist started the full body Swedish-styled massage. Characterised by long, gliding strokes that decreases muscle toxins and tension while improving circulation and flexibility, the therapist’s deft hands swiftly worked to even out any knots my seemingly 80-year-old body had been harbouring.

After the full body massage, a brief facial session — a massage, exfoliation and mask — was next to restore the long-lost glow on my face. That was going to take more than a facial and some premium organic products, I first thought, but let’s just say my therapist proved otherwise after.

Auriga Spa’s Vitality Pool.

For Capella guests and patrons at Auriga Spa, the experience continues even after your treatment is over. Luxurious spa facilities include vitality pools overlooking a tranquil garden, invigorating herbal baths and aromatherapy showers. A relaxation lounge in the facility features sound wave lounge chairs, and special beverages that harmonise with the current phase of the moon are provided — just like the massages. Little wonder Auriga Spa’s been awarded the Forbes Travel Guide Five Star Spa for seven consecutive years.

Feel the fresh air and warm sunshine during your morning yoga session at Bob’s Bar.

Capella Singapore also holds morning yoga sessions every Sunday at the expansive outdoor terrace at Bob’s Bar. The complimentary class was a revitalising way to begin the day as we stretched, breathed and folded our way to better health. Of course, this great start was only one-upped by breakfast at The Knolls after.

As dusk descended on the massive property — a stunning mix of colonial and contemporary style, mind you — we arrived at the Chef’s Table for its Private Brunch Affair, only this time infused with a good dose of Christmas cheer. For the first time ever, the space will be open at any time and any day in December, so diners can choose to enjoy an intimate celebration in style, and in close proximity of the chef — who, by the way, is more than happy to provide an impromptu dance performance.

Christmas came early — prepare for a decadent feast at Chef’s Table.

Highlights of the evening included the Rendang turkey — an endearing fusion of local and yuletide flavours — as well as Boston lobsters, and the Orzo Risotto with mushrooms and pumpkin. The mulled wine, a warm spice-infused drink, really hit the spot in recreating that Christmas spirit despite it only being November. Of course, the good guys at the Chef’s Table can customise a menu tailored to your dietary needs, and gluten-free options were aplenty.

It’s that time of the year when you’re dying for a vacation but the holiday season isn’t quite there yet, and that’s where Capella comes in to provide that much-needed getaway before things start getting crazy again. With a focus on the mind, body, and soul, there’s never been a more decadent way to sit back and relax than at this six-star facility.

Day Spa Singapore Reviews

  1. Day spa singapore reviews amazon

One of the things I love most about traveling to Asia is getting luxurious, over the top spa treatments from highly trained professionals that I could never afford in the US on a non-profit salary. So it should come as no surprise that when figuring out what I wanted to do on this 3 day trip, I made spas a big part. While doing searches for best spas in Singapore I came across this 2010 review ” SPA-rkling Singapore ” that influenced my choices. (Interestingly enough the writer was staying in the Grand Hyatt Singapore). So this story starts the morning I landed in Singapore. I wanted to do a spa appointment while I was waiting for my friend to land later that day. Originally I’d considered trekking out to the Aramsa Garden Spa that had been recommended but decided the extra effort wasn’t worth the cost savings of just going downstairs to the Hyatt spa, especially since my spend at the spa would net me 3 Hyatt points per $ since I was using my Chase Hyatt credit card. Tragically, the Damai Spa website lets you make bookings that the spa doesn’t have available.

Day spa singapore reviews amazon

In my case, this meant the 9AM appointment I booked at 7:30AM that morning didn’t actually exist. While they were doing their best to accommodate I had plenty of time to try out the facilities, and incidentally try out nude bathing. Not a fan. Will always pack a swim suit on spa visits now just in case. Other than my wardrobe discomfort, the locker rooms were actually pretty nice. There’s a spacious locker area with the usual basic toiletries. The robes were interesting — incredibly soft and fluffy and clingy, leaving nothing to the imagination, which is why my photo is from far away 🙂 It also offered a hot tub, an extremely cold plunge pool (the warnings not to stay longer than 4 min at a time were well advised), a steam sauna, and a dry sauna with a TV. My therapist arrived a little after 10 and came to take me down the awesome treatment hall to my room. I was so taken with the beauty of the treatment room, better than even the best Thailand spa I’ve visited, that I completely forgot to take pictures.

Two sides of the room were glass, one overlooking a rocky fountain coming down the side of the privacy wall and the other looking on to a rough boulder wall sitting in the pool of water. The light, the beauty, and the noise of water made a perfect combination. The treatment, a 90 minute deep tissue Targeted Healing Massage, for ~$156 was amazing. She was really digging in to the painful parts on my back (at my request) but it felt so much better than it had I nearly fell asleep on the table. The table was also a cool feature. Not only was it heated, but it was also electronic and could be raised to put me in a semi-upright position as she worked on various muscle parts. The treatment was on the pricier side for Singapore, but so amazing. The locker room facilities were also quite good although I longed for a bathing suit and/or a shorter stay there. If you’re staying at the Hyatt, especially if you can get a deal, definitely give it a shot. My second spa experience happened the next day, we’d been taken with the description of Spa Botanica and decided to try it, Chinese New Year or no.

I’d been particularly draw by the description of mud baths! I’d never done a mud bath!! How awesome was this going to be!? Sunday dawns and its overcast and rainy. Not really a problem. We arrive in the beautiful lobby and sip our welcome tea. We were given a quick tour and then escorted to the nicely appointed locker rooms to change into our bathing suits (yes I brought one! ) The lack of sun wasn’t a problem until we headed out to enjoy the female-only grounds for the hour before our treatment. Singapore 80 degrees on a gray overcast day with rain in the air is COLD! But we braved it, only to discover the mud baths weren’t quite what we thought. A large bowl of mud that you smear a thin layer on, wait for it to dry, and then go sit on a bench ankle deep in water. They’d mentioned some people would walk the meditation paths while waiting for it to dry – that sounded really romantic, wandering a labyrinth of hedges, only to discover it’s a path one brick wide that traces a path in an area 20x20ft or smaller.

A good massage, but at $160 not worth trekking out to Sentosa just for the experience. After 2 minutes I gave up and paced aimlessly waiting for the mud to dry (I’d put too much on) so I could then sit with my feet in tepid water. Hmmm. Definitely better for a hot sunny day. We then washed off in the outdoor showers, no hot water, and bundled back up ready for a dip in the hot tub and a hot shower before going in for a massage. Unfortunately the hot tub was pretty luke warm, not great on a cold day. But soon enough I was having a fantastic one hour deep tissue massage. Not only did she quickly start breaking down the knots in my back, but the quick reflexology and scalp massage was outstanding. After the massage we sat in a pretty basic waiting area to receive our post-treatment tea. Then we ventured outside again to try the waterfall effect on our shoulders as had been suggested. The water was COLD. So although the pounding water was helpful, the shivering was not relaxing. Spa Botanica was good, but inconsistent. Certain areas like the entry way and indoor facilities were quite posh, other areas, like the pools and post-treatment waiting area were surprisingly worn or basic.

My Cozy Room Spa is truly the best acne extraction facial spa I have encountered. I chanced upon them more than 6 years ago and started with a trial. After the 1st session, I was impressed by the professional care and extraction process, which was very comfortable and incredibly relaxing. Like many, I spent quite a long time finding a good facial place that has therapists who are skilled at extractions and managed to find a good place like this. I’ve been regularly visiting them and entrusting my skin concerns to my therapists who are very attentive and extremely skillful. Till now I’ve been their regular customer for more than 6 years. Out of so many places that I’ve tried (including top-tier stores etc. ), I’m happy to find one that suits my skincare needs consistently.
