Sharpie ultra fine vs extra fine: Review: Sharpie Extra Fine Permanent Markers

Review: Sharpie Extra Fine Permanent Markers

Sharpie markers are permanent markers and come in various sizes, starting from the thinnest line, namely

  • Ultra Fine (0.2mm)
  • Extra Fine (0.4mm)
  • Fine (1mm)
  • Chisel-tip (5.3mm)
  • King-size
  • Magnum

The ones listed above are the general use all-purpose markers. To check out Sharpie’s entire range, visit the Sharpie website

I’ve prefer thicker ink lines for drawing. Sharpie Extra Fine markers work well for me. They are listed it as a 0.4mm tip but I feel they are more like 0.7 that I commonly use with the Pilot V7 Hi-Tecpoint pen.

Since they are markers, when their tips are left in contact with the paper for too long, they will create an ink blob. You have to work fast, but even so sometimes you do get a slight blob at the end of the line which I quite like. If you like to draw digitally, you can get the same effect with the iPad apps Bamboo Paper and Paper by Fiftythree.

The ink is dark black, permanent, waterproof and dries instantly. However, when you’re drawing over dried watercolour, the ink appears like dark sepia.

It does come with that marker smell though. Extra Fine tip is smaller so I could barely detect the smell, but it’s there.

Markers are prone to bleed though paper. For the sketches above where I use 200gsm watercolour paper, there are faint impressions of the marker ink on the opposite page. If you’re using it in a sketchbook, you can only draw on one side of the paper.

Do not use fixative with Sharpie markers. The chemical in the ink will break apart and spray in different colours over your paper.

Another important attribute for drawing is how lightfast is the ink. I’ll update this review with a test in the future. Generally speaking, marker inks are not lightfast and will fade.

I do like drawing with them. But I have to withhold my verdict on recommendation because I don’t know how lightfast they are. If you’re just drawing to scan later, it’s no big deal.

Black Pen Comparison — Craft Critique

Reported by Taylor Usry

With so many black pens out on the market, choosing the right one for your project can be confusing. Today I’m going to show you a few of my favorites and tell you a little about the advantages of each of them. This comparison will focus on my five favorite pens – Sharpie Ultra Fine Point, Copic Multiliner, Copic Multiliner SP, Zig Millenium (by EK Success), and Pigma Micron (by Sakura).

Here is a brief summary of each pen:

Zig Millenium:

Each of the markers features pigment ink that has been tested for archival quality. All are acid-free, lightfast, colorfast, waterproof, fade-proof, non-bleeding and smear-proof, once dry. The pens are available in a range of nib sizes and retail (in sets) for around $16.00.

Pigma Micron:

These pens contain archival ink for use in acid-free environments. They are chemically stable, waterproof, and fade resistant. According to the Sakura website, their should be no bleed-through or smears of the ink once it is dry. The pens are available in a range of nib sizes and retail for around $3.00. They may also be purchased in sets.

Copic Mulitliner and Multiliner SP:

These pens are pigment inks that have replaceable nibs and are refillable. According to the Copic website, the multiliners will not bleed when used with Copic markers. The same claim is made for the mulitliner sp. Both types of pen are available in multiple tip widths and retail for anywhere from $6.00 to $9.00 individually. They can also be purchased in sets.

Sharpie Ultra Fine Point:

Sharpie markers have a tough, resilient tip that produces a quick flowing, fast drying ink. Sharpie Ink resists water, and is permanent. The Ultra-Fine Point Sharpie has an extra-fine, hard nylon point for a 0.3 mm line width; they come in a variety of colors. These markers retail from $1.00 and up and are can be purchased individually or in sets.

The picture above is what each pen looks like when it writes on Georgia Pacific White cardstock. Each one of them can be used for writing, although I’d recommend the Zig Millenium or Pigma Micron. I chose the .01 width for those two pens because they are thin enough to use on handwritten notes as well as color fine detail images. The Pigma Micron pens are specifically marketed for “fine point technical and artistic applications.” Sharpies will write on anything (paper and beyond – fabric, ziploc bags, containers, etc) and stay put – although they bleed through most paper. The Copics are lovely and smooth to write with but they do bleed through cardstock, so if you were writing a note to someone I would not recommend them. Of the pens I am focusing on today, the Pigma Micron writes the smoothest – it literally glides across the paper.

Next I used each pen to draw a small square. I wrote the name of each pen inside, gave it a minute (two minutes max) to air dry, and then colored them each with a Copic Sketch marker. I did not heat set any of them but I did “finger test” them to see if they were dry. The Copic Multiliner SP and the Zig Millenium are the only two that did not smudge or smear at all. The Copic Multliner only smeared a little bit – I have discovered that it just needs a bit more drying time because it is a wider-nib pen. The Sharpie marker not only smudged, it bled and mixed with the Copic ink. You should be able to see that about the word in the box. It seemed dry before I colored it. The Micron pen also smeared badly.

I next tested the pens out by making a Zentangle. If you don’t know what these are, here is a review of them I wrote awhile back. Included in the Zentangle kit are two Pigma Micron pens (remember I mentioned they were marketed for fine detail work). The tile is one that was also included in the kit. It is heavyweight, 100% cotton artist’s paper with a vellum finish. Starting at the top, I used the Zig Millenium (in the section that looks like a chart graph with circles), the Copic Multiliner (in the section with darkened semi circles around the edge), the Pigma Micron (in the section full of small circles and black space between them),  the Sharpie Ultra Fine Point (in the section with the white pipes and black spaces), and the Copic Multiliner SP (in the section that looks like tile flooring on the bottom). Each pen worked fine and none bled through the paper. Once again, the Pigma Micron out-shined the others in terms of detail work (it colored in the small spaces the best, and its black is the blackest one). The Sharpie marker leaked out a bit of ink when I stopped drawing – you can see that some of the white pipes have black line on them.

And here is my favorite use for the Copic Multiliners – correcting my stamp mistakes. This is a very large image. The card measures 5.5 inches square. So it can be hard to get a perfect impression of the stamp. Down by her shoes, on the diamond shaped grid, I didn’t. It was very spotty. Before I colored with Copic Sketch markers, I used the Multiliner SP to draw in the areas that I missed with ink. It’s only noticeable if you really stare at it – see how a couple of the diamonds are a bit darker? That is because my Multiliner SP has a wider nib. The smaller the nib width the finer your detail work can be. This image sat uncolored overnight, and had no bleeding problems at all.

Each of these pens has its advantages and disadvantages. As a person who does different types of crafts – card making, scrapbooking, art journaling – I feel comfortable saying that all of them are worth having in your arsenal. I use all of them regularly – the Zig Millenium and the Pigma Micron for writing, the Copic Multiliners for fixing mistakes and adding to stamped images, and the Sharpie for art journaling and just about everything else around the house.

I’d love to hear from you! What is your favorite black pen?

sharpie extra fine permanent marker

at first glance, today’s pen, the sharpie extra fine permanent marker looks basically like the ultra fine point that i reviewed waaaay back on post #6. aside from the difference between extra and ultra printed on the body of the pen, the differences are virtually indistinguishable until you remove the cap.

everything that i wrote about my feelings on sharpie pens remains the same as they were the day that i started this blog. i can also say honestly that with one exception (their ill conceived and executed “erasable” pen) that i have never regretted buying a sharpie. its a good quality product that is versatile and has yet to let me down.

the extra fine point, in my experience is not really all that different from its ultra fine little brother, they both have plastic nibs, they both bleed out and through the paper, the extra fine pen does seem to need a little warming up before you get a solid consistent line, especially if you stop using it for a few minutes and leave the cap off. this is a little annoying but not the end of the world. even sharpie’s official website does not distinguish between the two pens as far as the description goes (see below).

say what you will, either pen is good for detail work, sketching, writing (even though it says not to write with them printed on the pen’s body.) and will last for years. seriously, i have some of these pens that i bought when i left for college back in 2001.

do i recommend this pen?

no brainer – it’s a sharpie, these pend run for under $2 dollars a pen – it’s pretty much idiot proof… yes, go buy one.

Best Fine-Tip Permanent Markers for Artists – ARTnews.com

A fine-tip permanent marker is a staple item for any home, office, or classroom, whether for labeling, doodling, or taking notes. It is most commonly available in two sizes: the standard fine tip (1.0 millimeter) and the ultrafine tip (0.2 to 0.4 millimeter). The standard fine tip will give you a mark that is legible and easy to control and stands out from the page. The ultrafine tip works well for journaling, detailed drawing, or any situation where you want a line similar to that of a standard ballpoint pen. In either case, you should expect ink that won’t smear, fade, or wash away and a product that can write on a variety of surfaces. Whatever your permanent-marking needs, see below for our picks of the most versatile and long-lasting options.

1. Arteza Permanent Markers

Never run out of fine-tip markers with this jumbo pack of 60 from Arteza. This is an excellent choice for anyone who makes heavy use of fine-tip markers or who needs a bulk quantity for a classroom or office supply closet. These quick-drying, smear-proof, waterproof markers are nontoxic, which means they are safe to use around children. Comparable to Arteza’s product, these AmazonBasics markers are another excellent multiuse choice. This 24-pack of markers will give you an intense black mark from a durable fine tip. These markers may not provide the same crisp line that a more expensive brand will, but they are a suitable pick for everyday labeling and marking needs.

3. Sharpie Twin Tip Permanent Markers

Sharpie is one of the most recognized names in permanent markers, and its high-quality product provides bold, sharp lines that are water, smudge, and fade resistant. This Twin Tip permanent marker pack gives you the best of two worlds: each marker in this four-pack has a fine tip at one end and an ultrafine tip at the other. With the ability to write on almost any surface, these markers have all of the versatility you’re looking for in one single tool.

This pack of 12 will give you a smooth, strong line with ink that doesn’t pool like some similar brands. This vivid marker writes smoothly on even the most difficult surfaces, including glass.

A snap-on cap prevents drying and extends the life of the product. Thanks to their soft rubber grip, these markers are superbly comfortable to hold, providing great control for a smooth line.

The Best Fine Tip Markers for 2021

Any self-respecting artist worth their salt will need a set of the best fine tip markers in their collection. The best fine point markers are essential for outlining but you can also use them for hashing, pointillism, and coloring in little details.

However, because many manufacturers offer various brands of fine tip markers, it can be difficult to find ones that are worth keeping. This article will give you some tips on finding the right kind of markers for your needs and how to get the most bang out of your buck.

1. Arteza Inkonic Fineliners Fine Point Pens

One thing I like the most about these markers is that they provide an amazing array of 72 colors for an affordable price. The set is good if you are a beginner at using color markers and do not want to spend a lot of money on branded markers just yet. However, even if you are an experienced artist, such a number of colors makes it worth buying.

Another thing I like about these markers is their ergonomic design. Fine tip markers need to be easy to manipulate as they are usually for drawing fine details. These markers have ergonomic, somewhat flattened bodies, instead of the usual round barrel. This makes them easy to hold and use.

Although you still need to be careful when applying pressure on the fine 0. 4mm tips, they are still not as flimsy as they look. There is a sturdy metal casing that reinforces nibs. With that, it will surely take a bit of pressure to break them. This somehow assures you that you will be using these markers right up until their ink dries.

Speaking of the ink, I like how quickly it dries, almost instantly after applying it on the surface. If you are left-handed and often find yourself cleaning ink smudges off your wrist, you will be pleased that you won’t be doing that when you use the markers. Also, if you do not go over your lines too much, the markers will not bleed through the paper.

The thing that I did not like about this set of markers, though, is that you only have the colors of the caps to go with when it comes to organizing the pens. It would have been much better if there were at least color codes printed on the pens.

Pros

  • Comes in a set containing 72 pens
  • Ergonomically-designed grip
  • Ultra-thin, but still durable tips
  • Dries quickly and does not smudge
  • Affordable and suitable for beginners

Cons

  • There are no color labels, making them quite hard to organize

Beginners would love to use this set of fine-tipped color markers. Aside from being affordable, the set also provides you with a wide array of colors.

2. Linkbro Magnetic Dry Erase Markers

Note that this next set consists of dry-erase markers meant for use on whiteboards and other glossy and non-porous writing surfaces. That said, I like how these markers write so clearly on my whiteboard. The fine tips apply ink evenly so that every stroke is always as clear as the one before it. I never had to go over lines to make them clearer.

Another nice thing about these fine tip marker pens is that they are easy to erase. I also discovered that they do not leave any stains or residue on the writing surface. Other dry erase markers are not quite as easy to erase as this one. It is even possible for you to erase it completely after it dries.

Speaking of erasing, these markers come with their own, individual erasers. You can see the erasers being placed on the pen caps and they are just the right size. It is just like using a pencil eraser. The caps also have small magnets, so you can stick them onto the whiteboard or any metal surface.

I also like how vibrant the colors of the inks are. I use these markers for creating color-coded schedules on a small whiteboard I have at home. The vibrant colors help in highlighting my most urgent tasks. The colors on the caps are also quite accurate to the actual colors of the inks, except for the purple one as the ink is darker than the cap color.

There is nothing much to complain about with these dry erase markers. However, if it were up to me to make it much better, I would put stronger magnets on the caps. I place a couple of markers on my fridge so I can make grocery lists easily. The problem is that when I close the door, the pens would often fall off as the magnets are not that strong.

Pros

  • Cleans up easily without leaving any residue
  • The set contains 8 vibrant colors
  • The caps come with built-in erasers and magnets
  • Has fine tips that apply ink evenly
  • Comes in the same size as a regular pen, making them easy to use

Cons

  • The magnets need to be a bit stronger

These dry-erase markers are the perfect choice if you like using a whiteboard for organization purposes. These pens write clearly. They can also stick onto the whiteboard surface, so storage is not a problem at all.

3. MoneleN Coloring Pens Fine Tip Markers

If you are a budding artist and you would like to try your hand at using coloring markers, then this set contains some of the best fine tip pens that you can get right now. Not only is this kit affordable, but you will also get 36 different colored markers. This number is more than enough for most coloring purposes.

To add more versatility to the markers, each one features a dual tip. One end has a 0.4mm fine tip, which is great for outlining and typical note-taking. The other end has a soft brush tip. It is ideal for brush stroke calligraphy and coloring in general. You can use these pens technically for any kind of art project that you have in mind.

Speaking of the tips, these pens use flexible, yet durable, nylon nibs. Unlike most fine-tip markers, these items will not scratch or snag onto the paper. Moreover, the nylon nibs are very durable. With that, there is a guarantee that you will be using these markers for a long time.

I also like how quickly the ink dries. You can even expect it to dry almost immediately. This gives the ink less time to get accidentally smudged, which happens often in my case. It is also important since you can layer and blend colors a lot faster. The reason is you no longer need to wait for the paint to dry before applying the next layer of paint.

What I am not so fond of about these markers is how easily they bleed through paper. Even on heavier stock, there will still be a considerable amount of ink bleeding through the paper. I suggest that you place a sheet of acetate or cardboard underneath the page you are coloring.

Pros

  • Features dual tips that increase the number of the markers’ uses
  • The set has 36 vibrant colors
  • Flexible yet durable nylon nibs
  • Dries quickly while ensuring that it does not smudge
  • Comes in a beautiful gift box/carrying case

Cons

  • The ink bleeds through the paper

This is yet another set of coloring markers that are perfect for beginners. It contains plenty of colors plus each one is easy to use. The dual tips also add more versatility to the markers.

4. Dyvicl Fineliner Fine Point Pens

The first thing that I noticed about this set of marker pens is that they are incredibly affordable. You will be getting 36 colors of markers for the price of one or two markers from the more popular brands. Does this mean that these markers are no good? Not really. For the price, you are getting a surprisingly good set of pens.

Because they are so cheap, you may want to get another set or two for your kids and that would be okay. The reason is that, unlike some other brands, these pens use water-based and non-toxic inks, making them safe for young kids. Also, if your kids “accidentally” wrote anywhere they were not supposed to, you can get rid of the markings easily.

These markers are incredibly tough as well. I have used expensive markers that have very fragile tips. Press on them just a little too hard and they will bend out of shape. It is a different experience with these pens. I noticed that I can write normally without worrying that I would break the tips.

Even though these markers are quite cheap, they did not skimp out on ink quality. All the colors are bright and vibrant. All of them also flow smoothly, making them perfect for writing in journals or scrapbooking. Moreover, the 36 colors are distinct from each other. You can’t even find duplicate colors in the set.

Now, this set may be one of the finest fine tip markers for drawing, but it is not without fault. One flaw is that they tend to bleed through even thicker stock paper. You will need to place a sheet of paper behind the one you are working on to prevent the ink from bleeding through.

Pros

  • Incredibly cheap
  • Has metal-clad tips for durability
  • Uses non-toxic, water-based inks
  • Vibrant pigments and no duplicate colors
  • Has ink that flows smoothly

Cons

  • Tends to bleed through paper

These markers are among the most affordable ones that I have ever seen. They are great for journaling, scrapbooking, and maybe some stylized coloring. If you are looking for a solid, first set of color markers, then I highly advise you to check out this set.

5. Tanmit Fine Fine Tip Markers

These markers have dual tips. This means that one end has a flexible fabric brush tip and the other has a fine-point tip. I find the brush tips great for calligraphy and coloring large spaces. The fine-point tips are great for outlines and writing in journals and scrapbooks. The markers are quite a jack-of-all-trades in the coloring marker world.

This product is also the perfect beginner’s coloring marker set because you are getting sixty different colors with each one being distinct from the other. Unlike other brands, this one offers clearly different shades of colors.

Some brands say they have three different shades of a certain color, but you could hardly even tell the difference between them. If you want to step up your color shading game, then I think the markers in this set work great.

I also liked how the ink of the markers dries almost immediately as it touches the paper. It prevents the ink from smudging and getting into places they are not supposed to go. The ink flows out of the pens perfectly thick and uniform. It does not also bleed through paper. I also use them to take down notes and surprisingly, they write smoothly.

These fine tip-colored markers also come in a stylish canvas carrying case, with elastic loops that hold the pencils in their rightful place. If you like keeping your markers organized instead of just tossing them into an empty jar or tin can, the storage case that came with this set of markers provides individual hoops and spaces for all 60 colors.

Now, speaking of organization, it is a problem, at least for me, that the pens do not have any form of color-coding whatsoever. If you want to organize the colors by shade, then you have to do it by eye. It would have been better if there were color codes on the cap or body of the pen.

Pros

  • Boasts of dual tips for more versatility
  • Contains 60 vibrant color markers
  • Fast-drying ink that offers a guarantee that it will not smudge
  • Comes in a gorgeous canvas carrying case
  • Kid-friendly as the markers are non-toxic, odorless, and water-based

Cons

  • Does not have any color codes on the pens

You can do so many things with just this one set of markers, thanks to the dual tips. If you are looking for a good set of markers that you can use for almost all your projects, then I think these items are the ones you need.

6. ZSCM Coloring Fine Tip Markers

A positive thing that I would like to highlight about these markers is their dual tips. Tombow is famous for its high-quality writing instruments and greatest fine tip markers for coloring, and this one is not an exception.

I like the brush tip the most. I use it mostly for brush art calligraphy as every stroke is smooth and applies ink evenly. However, the fine-point tip is also great. It is ideal for drawing fine lines and coloring tight spaces.

The flexibility of the brush tip is worth noting. It is flexible in that it mimics fine brush bristles almost perfectly. However, unlike a real brush, the nylon brush tip springs back to its original shape immediately. This makes every downstroke and upstroke always even. You do not also need to dip the markers in ink like in calligraphy brushes.

You will also get an amazing set composed of 90 different colors of markers. I would have been happy with around 12 to 24 different colors, but I am very much overwhelmed with the dazzling array of colors that come with this set. You will always find that one color you need in this enormous collection.

Another nice touch is the stand/organizer that came with the markers. Instead of just throwing the markers in a large can, the plastic stand will keep the pens neat and organized, making it a whole lot easier to find the colors that you need.

Although these markers are almost perfect, there is a bit of an issue with the brush tips. After a while, the nylon brush tips would start to fray, making them a bit harder to use. However, it usually happens when the pen is about to run out of ink.

Pros

  • Comes with dual tips
  • Highly flexible brush tips
  • The set comes in a staggering 90 different colors
  • Comes with a nice stand/pen organizer
  • Offered by one of the best art supply companies ever

Cons

  • The brush tips fray a bit after a certain number of uses

The Tombow brand has always been synonymous with quality writing instruments and these ultra-fine tip markers share the same reputation. Although these markers are quite pricey, you will be getting more than your money’s worth with the quality.

7. Tombow 56149 Brush and Fine Tip Markers

Despite the affordable price, these markers perform just like some of the more expensive brands. The ink flows out smoothly from the nibs and they write clearly every time. These fine-point markers are great for journaling and note-taking. I also use these markers for line drawings and outlining.

The thin nibs are clad in a metal sheath and give the tip a bit of sturdiness. This means you can use the markers for extended periods without worrying that you might break the tips. I personally have a bad habit of applying more pressure on pens the longer I work, so these markers work well for me.

For its price, you are getting quite a lot of markers. In this kit, you will be getting 24 different and vibrant colors. The nice thing about them is that though there are so many colors, all of them have truly different shades. It is not like other sets with colors that are supposedly different shades but are so similar that you could swear they are the same.

As I mentioned before, these markers are affordable. This set of 24 markers cost as much as a single marker from the top brands. This pricing makes this set a good starting point for beginners who want to get some practice before getting a more expensive one. If you’re like me though, you will be happy using these markers all the time.

One complaint I have about this product, though, is that the pens are too thin, making them a bit uncomfortable to hold. I cannot use these markers for more than 20 minutes at a time or else my hand will start cramping.

Pros

  • Metal-clad fine-point nibs
  • Affordable while still having the ability to write excellently
  • The set contains 24 vibrant colors
  • Budget-friendly
  • The matte texture makes the pens comfortable to hold

Cons

  • The pens are a bit too thin

Overall, these markers are fantastic investments that seem to work great for journaling, note-taking, and maybe even for making mandalas if you are into that.

8. TWOHANDS Fineliner Note Taking Pens

You would think that for the price of this set of colored markers, you will only be getting a dozen or two markers. In reality, it provides you with 100 different colors. I have yet to use more than half of the markers in my set, but I am glad that they are there when the time comes that I will need them.

All the markers have 0.4mm tips, making them capable of drawing uniform fine lines. Now, you might think that these pens are easy to break, and you thought wrong. A bit of metal jacket reinforces the nibs, making them sturdy enough for most drawing purposes. You still need to be somewhat careful, but not that much.

All 100 markers contain vibrant inks. All the reds, blues, greens, and other colors show up brightly on paper. It is the reason why I also use these markers for journaling and note-taking. The bright colors make the pages of my journal a whole lot more interesting and fun than just using a regular black pen.

Speaking of the inks, I noticed that they dry completely almost immediately once they hit the paper. This is important, especially when you will be using these markers for writing in a journal because it will prevent unsightly smudges. If you are left-handed, using these markers will prevent ink stains on your wrist whenever you are writing.

Now, what I did not like about this set of 100 markers is that there is no color code in each one. This means you may find it difficult to organize them.

Pros

  • The kit comes with 100 colored markers
  • Highly durable nibs even though they are so slim
  • Has bright and vibrant inks
  • The inks dry quickly and don’t bleed
  • Comes with 50 pieces of stickers as a bonus

Cons

  • There are no color codes on the pens

Just the sheer number of pens that come with the kit is more than enough reason to get it. Also, this kit is quite affordable, making it a worthwhile and guilt-free purchase.

First off, I love having 40 different colors of chalk markers to play with. The bright and colorful markers bring out the kid in everybody. Aside from getting the regular chalk colors in this kit, you will also receive neon and metallic markers. If you like using bold, striking colors as much as I do, then you will be more than happy with this set.

Chalk markers are ideal for use on non-porous and smooth surfaces like glass, metal, and plastics. I have used these markers primarily for decorating large shop windows and writing notes directly on my refrigerator. I did not encounter any issues with them whatsoever. You can also use these items to paint rocks, woodblocks, and many more.

As mentioned earlier, these markers are dry-erase. They also come off completely. If you use these markers on non-porous surfaces, you can erase the marks using a dry washcloth. Now, if you use them by mistake on a traditional blackboard, just use a wet cloth to wipe the markings away.

Because of all the fun colors, it is no wonder that kids would want to use these markers, which is completely safe. The inks used in the pens are non-toxic and washable. If your kids filled up their whiteboards or the glass doors and windows, don’t worry as you can easily remove the inks using just soap and water.

Now, these markers are not ideal for use on regular paper. The reason is that the ink could easily bleed through the page. If you will be using these markers for coloring and drawing, use a thick paper stock so the inks stay on the surface.

Pros

  • The set contains 40 markers, including neon and metallic
  • Can write on all non-porous surfaces
  • Easy to erase without leaving any residue
  • Ideal for kids as the markers are non-toxic and washable
  • Easy to prime and use

Cons

  • Bleeds a lot when used on paper

Do keep in mind that these items are technically dry-erase markers, so they might not look that great on paper. However, if you are looking into decorating glass doors or shop windows, I still think that this set is the best one that you can use.

10. iBayam Felt Tip Fine Point Pens Markers

In my opinion, these markers are among the best ones that I have ever used for writing. Even though it is not a well-known brand, the overall quality is incredible. The markers have an incredible amount of ink in them. It does not also bleed through paper unless it is very thin. I do believe that this pack of 18 markers will last for quite a while.

The rounded fine-tipped nib makes for an enjoyable writing experience. The tip does not snag or scratch the surface of the paper. It also dispenses ink smoothly. Unlike the other markers in the same price range, these items do not skip or blot. All my notes and journal entries so far do not have any ink blotting whatsoever.

The pens also have an ergonomic design. The barrel is perfectly rounded to make them easier to hold, even if you suffer from arthritis or any other ailment that causes your hand to lose strength. Also, the surface of the pens has a matte finish for additional grip. These little things make the pens a joy to write with.

Another impressive thing about these pens is that they are economical. They work just as well as the name-brand pens, but they are a fraction of the price. As I mentioned earlier, the pens contain a lot of ink. It is more than some of the more expensive markers that I have used so far. This product absolutely gives you more bang for the buck.

These markers are almost perfect but they do have a couple of minor flaws. I noticed that the nibs would start to deteriorate and lose their sharpness after a page or two of writing. It is not that serious, though, but you will definitely notice a slight change in the writing quality.

Pros

  • Writes smoothly without skipping or blotting
  • The ink does not bleed unless used on thin paper
  • Ergonomic design
  • Economical as it has 18 pens in the kit
  • The ink dries incredibly fast

Cons

  • The nibs start deteriorating quickly after a couple of uses

These fine-tipped black markers are perfect if you like using fine liners for detailed artwork, like line drawings. I also think they work well for general writing purposes.

What to Look For When Buying a Fine Tip Marker

If you are still having a hard time searching for fine tip permanent marker, then considering the following factors and pointers may help:

Nib durability

The problem with most super fine tip markers is that they have fragile tips. Although the manufacturers needed to sacrifice a bit of durability so the pens can write fine lines, they should still be tough enough for general writing purposes. In short, the tips should not be so fragile that you are almost afraid to use them.

Nib flexibility

Even though the writing tips of the extra fine tip markers should be durable, that does not mean they are hard and rigid. If the nibs are too hard, then there is a risk that they would snag on the paper or poke holes through it. The nibs should have a bit of flexibility so that they can glide smoothly on the writing surface.

Ink quality

You will be drawing fine lines using these markers, so the ink needs to be vibrant. This will let you clearly see it on the paper. This is especially true when it comes to color markers. You need to be able to tell the difference between red and orange, or between blue and green.

Ergonomics

Regardless if you will be using these markers for drawing or writing in journals or notebooks, they need to be comfortable to use. The pen should also be easy to control so that your lines are always precise and uniform. Using the wrong kind of pens for writing for extended periods will only cause hand cramps.

Economy

This will be subjective, but you should get the markers that are well within your budget. This is especially true if you are a beginner at using felt tip markers.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to Recover Fine Tip Markers?

Most of the time, dried-out markers are not empty. The ink might just be dried up, causing it to clog the tip. To revive your markers, you just need to place a bit of rubbing alcohol into a small container.

After that, place the dried marker tip-down into the liquid. Wait until you see a bit of ink run into the alcohol. Remove the pen and dry the tip on some paper towels. Once done, your marker is ready to use again.

How to Draw with Fine Tip Markers?

Drawing styles may vary. Some use fine tip markers as they do on pencils, as in they still have sketch lines. More commonly though, artists use black, or dark-colored markers to trace the outline of the drawings with the outer outlines thicker than the internal lines.

Conclusion

It can be difficult to choose just one set of markers mainly due to the sheer number of brands available. Ideally, before you buy a set of markers, you should try individual pens first. This is so you will get a feel of how they work and if it feels right for you.

Once you find the best fine tip markers for your drawing or journaling needs, you will start looking at your hobby as being much more enjoyable.

It will not be wrong saying that you are never old enough to use a marker. Why so? Have a trip back to your childhood through your adulthood into your middle age. Your childhood fantasies, important class notes, and valuable business plans or presentations were drawn with this, right?

Apart from the business with a whiteboard, there are times when people need permanent inks to draw on wooden, metallic, and other surfaces for creating artworks or write things that won’t wipe out.

It will be irritating if you have to check on your marker over and over again or can’t hold of the grip or the ink bleeds all over. Imagine the damage permanent ink might cause to your skin if your hand accidentally is placed on it when it’s not dry.

To minimize all these hazards, have a look at the best permanent markers available. Your expectation is guaranteed to meet reality.

Why Do We Use Permanent Marker?

Drawing or writing anything knowing that you can wipe it out easily just with a swipe sounds like fun but what about the things you want to keep? The regular marker of yours is not the perfect match for this purpose. For clearing out your confusion, let’s know a little more about the special situations you might face that will be needing the attendance of a marker with permanent ink.

You better not undermine the necessity and usage of permanent marker and mix it up with your regular one. If you think, you will find that you need this for writing, drawing, labeling and sometimes for coloring. They work on pretty much all surfaces most of the time.

My brother used to write ‘Stay away‘ at his door. After writing several times with dry erase marker, he finally reached out to get a permanent one. It says all. When you know that you are writing stuff that you never want to be wiped out, get a permanent marker.

It can be your signature, your thoughts, information, for labeling the packaging at your home or workplace or anything else that you care for.

I have seen very confident and professional artists using permanent markers for painting. As they deliver resilient colors and last longer than usual colors, they are used in coloring sometimes. Weirdly true that some people use these markers to draw tattoos. Without precaution and doctor’s suggestion, you are never advised to try stuff like this. Even though the ink is non-toxic, never risk your health for a bit fun.

Different Types of Permanent Markers

Permanent markers can be different from each other depending on various reasons. You’d have to know about the differences if you want to find out which one is likely to suit your purpose the most.

Based on Ink

Not all permanent markers come with similar ink fillings. The ink types can vary from one another. Let’s briefly discuss the most common ones.

Alcohol-based Ink:  Alcohol-based inks are one of the most popular options among artists because they blend easily and smoothly. They’re also very quick to dry and allow layering of colors.

Pigment-based Ink: Markers with pigmented ink are more famous for their ability to offer bright and vibrant colors. This ink is waterresistant and stays firmly on most surfaces.

Based on Tips

Permanent markers may come with varied tips. The size and the shape of the end can significantly influence your coloring and writing. So, you have to know about them as well.

Brush Tip: Brush tips are the most versatile of the bunch. You can rely on them for making thin strokes. If you need to cover larger areas, you can simply flatten the brush to make thicker strokes instead of fumbling for a different marker. However, they tend to be more expensive.

Chisel Tip: The chisel tip boasts a chisel shape with different edges. With the side that’s wide and flat, you’ll be able to fill up large areas, while the thin and pointy side is suitable for making thinner strokes.

Fine Tip: Fine tips are perfect for delicate works. They are thin and sharp, allowing you to draw with more precision than any other type. However, they’re unsuitable for applying lots of colors. Pick this type if you want to add intricate details to your projects.

Bullet Tip: This type of tip is commonly found on cheaper models. It’s comparatively harder to work with and isn’t very versatile. You will find it equally tough to add fine details and fill up large spaces.

The AP approved ink is totally non-toxic.

Things to Consider Before Choosing

Once you research, you’ll get to know about the best markers available. But are you going to order all to know which one is actually best for you? This will not be needed if you consider some factors before ordering.

Type of Tip

Your purpose will lead you to the type of tip you actually need. Let me tell you, wide chisel tip cannot perform the job of a fine tip. Likewise, if you think of getting a fine point and make the mark wider by overwriting when needed, that will be such a waste of time and art.

For clear, distinctive and wider marks, you should choose the one with chisel tip. This kind of tip is generally used for heavy duties and clear vision. And for sharp and flawless marks, go for the fine tip. You can pick them for coloring, drawing, flawless writing and so on.

Ink Flow

Wouldn’t it upset you if the red color delivers a pink shade or a black one turns into ash? Of course, it will. You must check on the information regarding ink flow before selecting a set.

Color variation

It’s again all about your purpose when it’s about considering the color range. You’ll be needing a collection of various colors if you intend to draw or color your painting.

Also, as a gift to someone or a supplement to a cultural program, you cannot bring a plain set with no color variation. If you need them for office or industry, color might not be an issue. Most of the times, only black can be fair enough

Number of Markers

How many markers do you expect to get in a set? For constant uses, it’s better to look for a set with more of them in number.

However if you are someone who occasionally uses them and leaves them uncapped for the rest of the year, check the sets with fewer ones.

Safe or Not?

As permanent ink has more chemicals than usual ink, you really need to check if they are safe to use or not. You should check if the ink is non-toxic or not. Being ACMI, AP approved makes them more reliable in some ways. You cannot risk damaging your skin or bring any harm to your kid for using any toxic ink.

Usable Surface

There are different brands for different specific surfaces although most of them work on almost all surfaces. The permanent markers for plastic will never be effective on fabric. Likewise markers for wood will not last long on metal. Before choosing, check if the ink is appropriate for your chosen surface or not.

Frequently Asked Some Questions

Q: What are the best permanent markers brands?

If you’ve shopped for permanent markers before, then you already know that there are over hundreds of brands that manufacture these products. However, not all of them are trustworthy. Only a handful of them are popular, trusted, and known for offering quality consistently.

Among them, we found Sharpie, Staedtler, BIC, AmazonBasics, Keebor, Arteza, etc., to be the very best, based on popularity, reputation, and trustworthiness. They are recognized worldwide. Chances are, you’ve heard of them already, even if you haven’t used permanent markers before.

Q: Are permanent marker pens waterproof?

Sure, they are! Waterproof is actually one of the most important features of permanent markers. The inks used in these pens are either non-polar or have electron charges that are equally distributed in the molecules. Water, on the other hand, is completely polar. That means, the electron charge in water is unevenly distributed.

Now, it is a known fact that polar molecules and non-polar molecules don’t mix together. They repel each-other, just like how water and oil don’t mingle. As a result, water cannot dissolve permanent marker ink.

All the products that we’ve reviewed are completely waterproof, so don’t worry about water-induced damages to your marks. You can’t wash them away with water either.

Q: Are BIC permanent markers the same as Sharpie?

Well, Sharpie is more popular than other permanent marker brands, but BIC is a close second. Sharpie may dabble in the spotlight, but BIC isn’t so far behind. They are both extremely competitive and always striving to be better than the others.

Regardless of their brand popularity, their products are almost identical in terms of quality and performance. They come with similar features like comfortable grip, low-odor, fade-resistance, waterproof, etc. Their products are durable and long-lasting.

So, in that sense, BIC permanent markers can be put in the same category as Sharpie. They are equally great!

Q: How Long Does Permanent Marker Ink Last?

That actually depends on many things, including the quality of the ink and the surface that’s been written on. So, it’s hard to give a definitive answer to this question. In general, you can expect the ink to last anything from a couple of months to several years if it isn’t damaged.

It is likely to fade faster if it’s exposed to outdoor elements. So for best results, use them indoors on porous surfaces.

Q: Does permanent marker harm for skin?

Most of the permanent markers are designed with non-toxic materials, so they’re safe to use on the skin. They will not harm your skin. The ink will come off your skin eventually after some time, anyway. However, you might have reactions if you have extra-sensitive skin.

Serial Shuler: photo, video, description of episodes

Ukrainian and Russian criminal serial drama directed by Edward Parry.

The series “Sharpie” is based on the biography of Anatoly Barbakaru, the legendary Soviet swindler and card sharper from Odessa. In the 1980s, the prototype of the protagonist was put on the wanted list in all the Union republics, and he was released from prison in the dashing 90s, after which he took up a completely legal hotel business and creative activity: literature, screenwriting.

The main roles in the series “Sharpie” were performed by: Anton Feoktistov, Olga Lerman, Sergei Sosnovsky, Ekaterina Volkova, Sergei Alimpiev, Alexei Gorbunov, Yulia Galkina, Valentin Golubenko, Anatoly Barbakaru and others.

The premiere of the project took place on November 13, 2013 at 21:30 on Channel One. Re-screening – from August 24, 2015 on First.

The plot of the series Sharpness

The action of the series “Sharper” takes place in Odessa in the early 1980s.The protagonist Konstantin Voloshin (Anton Feoktistov) is a professional sharper, virtuoso. As a cover, he works at a research institute. Kostya has a dream – he dreams of going abroad, since he does not share the ideas of communism and socialism. However, in order to leave, you need to at least earn initial capital.

“Kostya is responsible, purposeful, intelligent and insanely brave – his actions cannot be inherent in a person with a weak character,” Anton Feoktistov tells about his hero.- The most important thing in my character is that he is constantly moving forward, climbing, conquering more and more peaks. And for me as an actor, this is fundamental to his character. He doesn’t stop for a minute. Even if something does not work out, if obstacles appear on the way, Kostik is faithful to his goal to the last. ”

Voloshin decides to find the amount sufficient for departure in Odessa. There, the hero is helped by a large tycoon Balaban (Alexey Gorbunov). He has a duty to Kostya: twenty years ago Balaban was unable to expose the people who set up Voloshin’s father. Not surviving the shame, the old man died of a heart attack. Balaban “covered” all of Odessa, and the scam, committed without his knowledge, was on his conscience.

Soon Konstantin starts an affair with Maya (Olga Lerman) – Balaban’s mistress. The latter decides to survive the sharpie from the city. In addition, Kostya learns that it was his patron who was behind the slander that led to the death of his father. Overnight, a close friend becomes Voloshin’s first enemy. He decides to take revenge on Balaban by all means.

Serial “Sharpshooter” – an action-packed story of a young guy who strives to make his dreams come true with the help of his main and only weapon – cards. He is a virtuoso, which are few, and he knows for sure that luck is not the key to success.

Behind the scenes of the series Sharpie

The author of the novel of the same name, based on which the series “ Sharper ” was filmed, Anatoly Barbakaru played the role of Viscount, one of the minor characters, and meticulously assessed and consulted the “creators of the series” issues related to card scams. He also invited a former prisoner Ivan Kochanov to the set, whom he met while working on the television show Gentlemen at the Dacha.

In 1992, Anatoly Barbakar, the prototype of the main character of the series “Sharpshooter”, underwent plastic surgery to start life from scratch. The author does not hide that Kostik Voloshin is himself in his youth. And the scams that will be shown in the film are his “exploits” in Odessa in the 80s. Naturally artistic.

Director Edward Perry about the series “Sharpie” :

– This picture is about love, friendship and betrayal. The film is about the time that has passed, about a hero who has changed. The image of Kostya is ambiguous. Ostap Bender had a desire to just leave, because he was tired of everything. There, in Rio de Janeiro – white pants and dark-skinned women … Our hero has other goals, he wants to reunite his family, but he cannot do this while receiving a salary.
