Ink Matching with the Lamy LX Rose Gold : fountainpens
I just received my Lamy LX Rose Gold in the mail, along with some ink samples I ordered to try out with it. I thought I would post the results for anyone else who wants to try to find a matching ink.
Disclaimer: I haven’t color-corrected these photos. These are from my phone, under light that is a little yellowish.
4 samples + LX
Left to right:
Iroshizuku Momiji: I knew this color would be too bright but I wanted to try it out and it’s pink so I included it here. Translation: “Maple/autumn colors”
Iroshizuku Kosumosu: From the photos online, this looked like a softer pink, but it is quite bright for a lighter pink. Translation: “Cosmos (the flowers)”
J. Herbin Bouquet d’antan: This is a cool-toned pink, it looks a lot like a flower. Which, I mean, makes sense. Getting closer to a match. Translation: “Bouquet of yesteryear”
J. Herbin Rouille d’ancre: This matches surprisingly well! I wasn’t expecting to find anything close since I was aiming for pinks but this is more of a pinky orange and I think I’m declaring it the winner. Translation: “Anchor rust.”
Close-up of Rouille d’ancre with LX hardware
My conclusions: I haven’t inked the pen up with its matching ink yet (I will post again when I do) but here is a written review from FPN. Rouille d’ancre an interesting color that I wouldn’t normally consider and in a fine nib it may be too light for real legibility. It’s close enough of a match to the Rose Gold LX that I think I can justify buying a bottle of it, just to have on hand for those “matchy matchy” days. I can also see inking up this pen with a contrasting ink, like black or dark plum for more official business writing. I’m already picturing it with Iroshizuku Take-Sumi – that would look good with the smoked section and black nib.

How to Rinse and Clean a Fountain Pen
In order for your fountain pen to serve you faithfully for a long time, learn how to properly care for it – first of all, rinse it. It’s time to clean your pen, no matter what material its nib is made of, after four or five refills, or cartridge changes. In this case, normal running water will suffice to rinse the pen.
Tip of the Day: Check out the fountain pens in our catalog!
If, for some reason, the ink has dried up thoroughly, you will have to use additional agents – any detergent for dishes, bleach or ammonia will easily solve this problem.Place the pen in a bowl with the solution until it is completely cleaned, and before that, pump the solution into the ink tank several times, like with a pump. In case your pen is not particularly dirty, it will be quite enough to pump the solution into it several times. As soon as your pen is cleaned, rinse it thoroughly with running water and pumping clean water into the reservoir as well.
Cleaning steps:
If the refilling system of your pen provides for cartridges, then everything is elementary here – create a vacuum in the used ink cartridge by squeezing it, immerse it in the detergent solution and release it. The reservoir will fill with cleaning solution, and you will have a ready-made mechanism for cleaning the handle. Now you just need to put the cartridge in place and squeeze the solution through it, cleaning the pen and the entire pen. Repeat several times as necessary and remember to rinse the pen thoroughly with clean water!
Your faithful assistant when cleaning the pen will be an ordinary cotton swab, with its help you can clean the most inaccessible places of your pen. Also, a cotton swab will help you before assembling the ink pen, when it is necessary to thoroughly dry all the elements of the case.By the way, use cold water to rinse the body and cap of the pen and never use boiling water, alcohol or acetone – these liquids can irreversibly spoil the decor of your fountain pen. Finally, keep an eye on the quality of the ink and cartridges you refill your pen, do not use waterproof ink or any other formulation that is not intended for refilling ink pens.

90,000 The most expensive writing pens in the world. The most expensive writing pens
Today, the pen has evolved from a common writing tool to an iconic thing is an indispensable attribute of any successful person, clearly demonstrating status, wealth and lifestyle of its owner.
Now, when ballpoint, capillary, rollerball pens and, finally, computers are quite common, which we often trust not only in business, but also in personal correspondence, the fountain pen has not become less relevant. Even Bill Gates, who prefers typing any word rather than handwriting, always has an eternal pen with him.As the French rightly noted, the image is made up of little things. A respectable person can constantly carry a fountain pen in the breast pocket of his suit just to sign contracts. And this is not only a tribute to traditions and a desire to impress partners and colleagues, but also self-respect, a manifestation of good taste.
It is for such people that fetish instruments are created, totems decorated with stones and hand filigree. Their cost is sometimes equal to the cost of a car or jewelry.
For the discerning connoisseur of luxury writing instruments, the name Montblanc means so much more than many other brands. This German company is widely known all over the world as one of the leading manufacturers of not only prestigious writing instruments and leather accessories, but also wonderful wristwatches produced in Switzerland.
It is no coincidence that classic pens from Montblanc bear the pretentious name Meisterstuck (translated from German – “masterpiece”).Each Meisterstuck nib is engraved with the number 4810, the height of Mont Blanc in meters. The Montblanc brand pen is also easily recognizable by the famous white star with rounded beams at the top of the cap. The highest quality of Meisterstuck writing instruments is confirmed by the fact that for over eight decades this pen has been one of the most popular classic pens in the world.
The company is also famous for its annual limited editions dedicated to some famous personalities and great writers. At different times, the collections were named after Catherine the Great, Peter the Great, Madame Pompadour, Voltaire, Edgar Poe, Hemingway, Dickens, Marcel Proust, Schiller, Dostoevsky. These limited editions symbolize the special status of Montblanc Meisterstuck pens as excellent writing instruments worthy of the names of great people.

Gone are the days when pen (fountain pen or ballpoint pen) was used only for writing. For example, Parker pens have long been a status item and talk about the owner’s income level and his position in society.
But today you can approach writing instruments from a new, unexpected, side – as a reliable investment of money. There are pens in the world, the place for which is exclusively in private collections, because the cost of some of them is calculated in tens and hundreds of thousands of dollars, not to mention the rarest precious masterpieces more expensive than a million dollars.
57,000 dollars
Our rating of the most expensive (and precious) pens starts from the Italian company Visconti. Released in just 39 pieces, the Ripple HRH boasts an exquisite two-tone gold nib, 18K white gold case and a pattern set with 650 brilliant-clarity diamonds (VS / VVS) . The individual elements of the handle are made of black jewelry resin.
It is noteworthy that the creators of the pen thought not only about external data, but also about ease of use: two reservoirs with ink were placed inside at once. The cost of a unique piece is $ 57,000.
150,000 dollars
Although diamonds are “girls’ best friends,” men often have great sympathy for them. Take a look at the Montblanc Boheme Royal Pen, for example, and try to say that it doesn’t make a lasting impression on you!
The “Royal Pen” inlaid with 1430 diamonds, firstly, fully justifies its name, and, secondly, it is clearly created for a person who is not afraid to attract too much attention. The case material is 18K platinum-plated gold, the Montblanc logo is adorned with 19 diamonds and even a gem sparkles on the clip.
Given the precious filling, the $ 150,000 Boheme Royal Pen seems almost expected.
$ 175,000
With every effort to ensure that writing instruments are not permanently out of our lives, Montblanc continues to produce pens that rival collector’s cars in terms of exclusivity and value. One of them is Meisterstuck Solitaire Royal LeGrand or Diamond Solitaire for short.
The stunning pen was auctioned at Bonhams & Butterfields with a price tag of $ 175,000. The surface of the Meisterstuck Solitaire Royal LeGrand is set with 4600 diamonds, and the case itself is made of 18K yellow gold. The cap is encrusted with 7 more diamonds.
201 555 USD
Cost of one Boheme Papillon 180,000 euros (slightly more than 200,000 dollars) .The source of inspiration was nature in general and delicate butterflies in particular. The masters tried to recreate the beauty of these amazing and graceful creations in a pen.
There are a total of 6 items in this series. Half of them are richly decorated with sapphires and diamonds. The stones are arranged in three rows on the case, which, according to the creators, emphasizes the diversity and beauty of nature. And the second half should, according to the idea, emphasize the naturalness of natural beauty, therefore there are fewer precious stones on them, but the color of the product is better visible.White, pink and yellow gold was used for the case.

Hello everyone!
It doesn’t matter to the heart whether you give a big gift or a small one. Moreover, small things can cost quite solidly.
It is not customary for representatives of the stronger sex to give large presents: they do not need vases or sets of dishes, just like bouquets are still a women’s priority. Therefore, we buy for them something small, but high-status: cufflinks or a tie. Expensive pens as a gift for a man are a very common purchase, especially for those in leadership positions.
Today we have a guide to writing utensils. Our steam locomotive is leaving the platform, take your seats!
A Minute of History
In fact, I recommend that you definitely read these few paragraphs. I believe that we are all extremely busy people and are in a hurry to get only important information. But knowing the history of your gift, you can always tell something interesting to the birthday boy before giving him the present. This will eliminate the need to look for trivial words for congratulations and will glorify you as an interesting person with versatile views and knowledge.
We have been using writing utensils for about 6 thousand years. The first handle was a finger or stick, which the prehistoric man dipped in colored clay and ran along the cave wall. Then he used a bone or bronze stick for this purpose.
The system was very simple and at the same time functional: text was applied on a board or on parchment covered with wax with the sharp side of a stick, but with its blunt end they erased unnecessary things.
At first, feathers were cut from reed stalks, then goose feathers were used for the same purpose.Actually, the word itself quite succinctly tells us about this. Moreover, in other languages such an attribute for writing also has “bird” roots.
Imagine that for a thousand years mankind has used only pens to write down all their great thoughts, to conduct everyday correspondence, scribble love letters, reduce debit and credit, and so on.
Bronze feathers were found during excavations in Pompeii, but they became widespread only in the 18th century. Around the same time, the slate pencil was also invented.
Only 100 years later the capillary pen was invented by a New York businessman named Waterman.
The ball mechanism, habitual in our understanding, we received only in 1944.
A very resourceful Hungarian named Laszlo Biro observed the operation of ball bearings. And he came up with an idea of how to use this principle for writing.
The word “pen” was used only for the part into which the pen was inserted, but over time the system has changed, but the term has remained the same.
By the way, when choosing a good pen today, you are partly touching history. After all, the most famous names in this business that offer you really status, expensive and respectable things, for example, Parker or Waterman, two centuries ago, contributed to their creation and even received patents. Therefore, Parker has long been associated not with a surname, but with a pen. In the same way, Colt, Ford or Diesel are not perceived as names of inventors.
The first copies were quite expensive: more than $ 12, but Baron Bich made them cheaper – another name, which also became the name of the pen.
But do not think that the improvement of mechanisms stopped there. In the 1960s, felt-tip pens were invented. In the 80s, rollerballs were invented, in which water-based liquid ink was poured and a movable ball was placed. Thanks to them, a thinner and clearer line appears on the paper. Among other things, such samples are considered the most economical.
By the way, modern technologies make it possible to make ink that does not fade over time. And in expensive pens you will not find cheap options that will turn your signature into a vague stain in a dozen years.
In the 90s, a rubberized ring was finally put on a rigid rod, which made it easier to press.
Which pen is better to choose as a gift?
There are three types of pens – ballpoint, rollerball and nib. The first of them is still universal, but feathers are considered a sign of special chic. Expensive items are made with gilded feathers or engraved.
They even came up with special options for left-handers: they slightly changed the angle of inclination of the pen.Coasters are often attached to collectible models, which are decorated with no less expensive materials.
Of course, really reliable movements can only be found from branded manufacturers such as the aforementioned Parker, Montblanc or Dupont.
If you want to buy a truly status gift, then you should not choose replicas or cheap Chinese fakes.
Modern expensive handles are as reliable as good cars. They won’t break under pressure, won’t leak, stain or scratch paper.Their feathers do not rust and they do not corrode.
By the way, the ink supply system can also be different. This is a convector, that is, the option when you will need to refuel the nib from the inkwell. Or the more common replacement cartridge.
There are also subjective parameters that are important for any person.
For example, the thickness of the rod or the handle itself. Someone loves thin clear lines and is proud of their calligraphic handwriting, someone is important about the color of the paste.Naturally, it may be inconvenient for a person with large hands to write with a thin pen, but it is difficult to hold a thick pen in miniature fingers. It is best if you look in advance at which copy your birthday person is using.
Status pens also have nibs of various sizes.
A few words must be said about design. If you are facing a serious person who is the head of a large corporation, then you should not give him playful copies with naked women or in too bright colors. It is better to look for a strict and concise little thing, but it should be clear from it that this is an expensive and reliable gift.
Pens can be gold or silver plated or even consist of these metals.
