Pinch pleat curtain tracks: Pleated Curtains = Traditional Elegance

Pleated Curtains = Traditional Elegance

YES, PLEATS

You can get them single, double, or French. You can buy them already made, or pinch them yourself. We are, of course, talking about pleats. Curtains with grommets are very popular, and simple to install, but the elegance and traditional look of a pleated curtain are worth a little extra time. Pleated curtains add dimension to a room and give it a polished look – your guests will see that you put some thought and effort into decorating the room. They also give you a chance to play with some of our more interesting pieces of drapery hardware.

PINCH YOURSELF

We have previously posted about how to make your own curtains, and we are always available to help you out. If fact, we will make them for you if you like. If you want the honor and glory of making pleated curtains yourself (a good conversation starter), layout the fabric, pinch the pleat in the front, fold the fabric into an accordion shape, and sew a small seam top to bottom. Finish the edges with a double fold on the top and bottom.

HOOKS OR SLIDES

Here’s where the drapery hardware options come in. You can put Tail Slides into the pocket of the pleat, or slide a Drapery Hook into the middle of the pleat. A tail slide is a handy do-dad that eliminates the need for a carrier because it slides into the track itself (you’ll need a compatible track like the 3296 Aluminum Curtain Track.) You may be more familiar with the curtain hook, which stays in the pleat thanks to gravity, and requires a carrier of some sort to attach to the track (which means you can use whatever track you like, including an existing one).

PLAIN OR PATTERNED

Solid color pleated curtains look great in dining and living rooms, and work with most fabrics, but are particularly striking with silks and satins. Pleated curtain panels with patterns like toile and paisley create a wonderfully textured, feminine look in a bedroom.

A Guide to Tracks and Poles for Curtains

Here are some Frequently Asked Questions about Tracks and Poles:

Do I need a track or a pole?

This depends on the heading style of the curtain you are hanging:

Pencil pleat curtains can be hung from a track or a pole.

Tab top and Eyelet curtains must be hung from a pole.

Pinch and Goblet pleat curtains can be hung from a  track or pole but as they hang underneath either, to enable the curtains to concertina back properly, the track or pole will be in full view. Therefore, they can look smarter when hung from a decorative pole.

What kind of pole do I need for eyelet curtains?

If you are buying eyelet curtains then a metal pole will stand up to the wear created by the eyelets better than a wooden pole. It is a good idea to chooose the pole which is nearest in colour to the eyelets.

What should I use to hang net curtains?

Net curtains are traditionally hung from a net wire or net rod. They come with a slot top heading as standard. However, if you choose to order pencil pleat heading for your nets, you will also be able to use the tape loops on the back of the heading tape to insert hooks and then you can hang them from a track or pole.

What should I use to hang voile curtains?

The ready-made voile panels come with a net pleat heading tape stitched to the back; so you can use a net wire or rod as well as a track or pole.

Made to measure voiles with a slot top can be hung from a rod or wire. If you select a pencil pleat heading, you can also hang them from a track or pole.

How far above the window should I fit the pole?

We would recommend fitting your track or pole 10 to 15 centimetres above the window opening.

If you have a short window that you would like to elongate, you can go even higher.

How far either side of the window should I fit my track or pole?

We suggest extending the track or pole 15 to 20 centimetres either side of the window. This will allow the curtains to be pushed back, away form the window without blocking out too much light or covering the view.

If you are ordering heavy or thick, interlined curtains, we would recommend going much further either side.

If your window is very wide, so there is a lot of curtaining to draw back, we would again recommend extending the track further each side.

Double Pinch Pleat Curtains – The Home of Interiors

Double pinch pleat curtains have small groups of pleats separated by flat sections of fabric, pinch pleat curtain hooks are used at each pleat, so the curtains are suspended by the pleats with flat fabric between. Pinch pleats give a more formal look and the curtains tend to hang in uniform folds. The pinch pleat heading can also be made with triple pleats to create a very full more traditional looking curtain if preferred, this will require more fabric  as a 2. 5 x fabric  fulness is recommended.

This heading looks best when hung beneath a curtain  pole, however, can be used on a track also.  If you are using on a track we would recommend one of the Silent Gliss tracks that use the break system so the curtains don’t spring back when open.

It is important to carefully measure your track or pole as curtains are made to an exact fit.

Why Choose Double Pinch Pleat Curtains?

  • Can be used on tracks or poles but looks best on poles
  • Versatile – Can be used under pelmets and valances but looks best on their own
  • Suitable for most styles of fabric
  • Suitable for all curtain widths and room heights
  • Very well suited to both modern and traditional homes
  • Can be made into a long continuous curtain when using ‘Wide Width’ fabrics so there are no joins in your curtains.
  • Hanging height is fixed by the position of the pins located in the back of the pleats.

Please note that the size and spacing of the pleats will vary slightly from the picture, depending on your pole/track width as all pinch pleat curtains are pleated by hand specifically to fit your requirements.

Now you have selected your heading style, we will show you all the fabric options based on this heading type.  If you have found a fabric we don’t have listed, this isn’t a problem, please give us a call to discuss and receive your quote.

The next stage will be to specify your requirements for linings and interlinings and then add the finishing touches, such as trimmings or co-ordinated fabric holdbacks.

How to Hang Curtains | Easy to Follow & Detailed Guide on How to Hang Your Curtains Like a Pro!

Eyelet Curtains

These curtains will be up in a jiffy!

Feed each eyelet over the pole; make sure that the leading and outside edge of the curtain points inwards towards the window. Position the final eyelet between the bracket and the finial.

There you go, all done, and relax.

Pinch Pleat Curtains

Pinch pleat curtains are already pleated for you so they will be hanging and looking lovely in a trice.

Decide the Position of the Hooks

All you really need to do is decide where to position the hook that sits at the back of the pleat. If you have a pole then move the hook to the top of the heading, this will make sure your curtain hangs below the pole. For curtain tracks position the hook towards the middle so that the heading will cover the track.

Hanging your Curtains

Make sure that you have the same number of track gliders or pole rings as you have pleats and then simply hook through. If you have a curtain pole attach the final curtain hook between the bracket and the finial and for a curtain track attach it to the fixed glider at the end. All done, sit back and relax.

Pencil Pleat Curtains

If you’ve never hung pencil pleat curtains before we’ve made these instructions really detailed to help you, rest assured its common sense rather than rocket science! The key thing here is to just take your time.

Tying the Cords

Tie the cords before you gather! You will need to tie the cords at one end of the heading tape. If you don’t do this when you start to gather the curtain the heading tape will unravel and this is never a good thing! Most people like to tie the curtains off at the leading edge, i.e. the edge that will meet the other curtain in the middle.

(Ooops! In the unlikely event that you do accidentally unravel the heading tape then get a tapestry needle to re-thread the cords through the holes.)

Check the Width

Before you start to gather grab a tape measure and check the width that the curtain needs to be. It’s worth gathering the curtain to a few centimetres wider than you actually need so that there’s no need to yank each side of the curtain to get them to meet in the middle once they are hung!

Gathering

Take hold of the loose cords at the un-tied end and start to pull them. Pull the cords evenly so that the pleats will be nice and straight.

It can be easier to check the evenness of the pleats by looking at the heading tape rather than the actual pleats in the curtain.

Tie the Curtains off

Once you’re happy with the width of the curtain tie the cords. Don’t cut the cords though as you may at some point want to loosen the curtain for cleaning or maybe to hang at a different window.

So that the long cords don’t keep peeping out at you wind them up over your hand. Some people attach the cords to the lining with a safety pin to really keep them hidden.

Inserting the Hooks (the fun bit!)

At this point take the time to make sure your gathers are nice and even, it takes a little patience but we promise it will be worth it!

Count the number of gliders or rings that you have on your track or pole and then divide by half. This is the number of hooks that you need to attach to each curtain.

Before you put the hooks into the pockets it’s worthwhile placing them loosely on top of the heading tape. An even distance between the hooks makes all the difference and will give your curtain a professional edge! Make sure that you place a hook on the outside edge of curtain so that when the curtain is pulled closed it will stays securely at the end of the track or pole. It’s worth considering the position of the hook on the leading edge too. Place it so that you can achieve a nice ‘overlap’ with the other curtain when they are closed.

The heading tape has three rows of pockets. For curtain tracks you will need to insert the hooks into the low or middle row of pockets so that the heading hides the track. For poles insert the hooks into the top row of pockets so that the curtain hangs below the pole. Just make sure you insert the hooks into the pockets rather than onto the cords!

Now just pop the hooks into the pockets on your chosen row.

You’re all set to Hang your Curtains (the easy bit!)

It can be easier to hang curtains with a friend who can hold the weight of the curtains while you attach them. If you’ve gone to all the trouble of creating perfect pleats you don’t want them all to move if the curtain hangs in mid-air for a while!

If you have a curtain pole attach the final curtain hook between the bracket and the finial and for a curtain track attach it to the fixed glider at the end.

All done…well done you

We’re sure your curtains now look magnificent and totally professional. Time for a nice cup of whatever you fancy.

Rods, rings, track and hooks. What’s the big difference? – Draperly

We know it can be a little confusing so we are going to try and clear a few things up about rods & rings, tracks, and hooks and what is really the big difference!

Rods and Rings

Curtain rods, also known as a curtain poles have a dual function. They are used to suspend curtains and also used as a decorative feature. They can be made of metal, wood or plastic and are fixed to the wall using a series of supporting brackets. Curtains are attached to curtain rings using a series of hooks and are suspended from the curtain rod. Select the Draperly soft top, 3 pinch pleat or Euro pleat headings to achieve this look and if you would like us to quote you for custom made rod and rings, please contact customer service on [email protected]

S-fold curtains and tracks

S-fold curtains are a modern look curtain. This style is simple, elegant and on-trend. The s-fold curtain looks just like a wave and glides easily along a custom made designer, slim profile track. The soft, following, wave effect creates a perfectly draped fabric every time. This style can be suspended from a ceiling mounted or wall mounted track. We offer either of these tracks free of charge, in white, when ordering your s-fold curtains. An s-fold curtain is married to its accompanying track and as such this look cannot be achieved when using tracks sourced elsewhere or existing tracks. All of our tracks are hand operated. If you require flick sticks to be sent with your s-fold curtains, or if you would like a black track instead of white, please contact customer service [email protected]

Tracks with free moving gliders

A track with free moving gliders has gliders that move independently of one another (unlike the s-fold tracking system where the gliders are locked in at evenly spaced intervals). This system is most suited to use with pleated curtains. If you are using an existing track, or if you would like to purchase a track from us, please contact us at [email protected] Tracks with free moving gliders are usually used when accompanied by a curtain pelmet and are not suitable for use with soft top curtains or s-fold curtains.

Ceiling mounted & Wall mounted tracks

Both s-fold tracks and tracks with free moving gliders are available in ceiling mounted and wall mounted options.

Ceiling mounted is when the track is mounted directly to the ceiling and wall mounted is when the track is mounted to the wall. When purchased from us, it is the same track, just with different brackets enabling a different mounting position.  See images below:

.

.

A wall mounted tracking system is generally only used with an s-fold  if an architrave prohibits direct ceiling access or the ceiling is in an odd place in relation to the window, otherwise ceiling mounting is preferable for this style as it gives a more contemporary, neat and clean looking finish.

If you would like specifications for our wall and ceiling tracking systems, please contact us at [email protected] and we will email them to you.

How to properly hang curtains on the ceiling cornice –

How to sew and hang curtains on the ceiling cornice

Ceiling cornices are increasingly winning the hearts of buyers because of their functionality, as well as the ability to visually add height to the room. However, before purchasing such a structure, it is worth thinking about what kind of curtains or curtains will be hung on it, in how many layers, what weight, what kind of fastenings will the curtains have. After all, in order to get the perfect appearance of windows, you need not just hang curtains on the ceiling cornice, but in accordance with all the listed features.

In what ways can the curtains be hung?

Before deciding on the type of cornices that will be purchased in a particular case, it is worth keeping in mind how window textiles can be attached to them. So, the fastening of the curtains can be as follows:

  • With curtain tape;
  • For decorative hinges;
  • Drawstring;
  • For large eyelets;
  • For hooks, clips or clips;
  • Backstage.

How to choose the right ceiling cornice?

Now it is worth comparing the chosen option of curtain fastening with the possibilities of eaves structures.

Cornice rod (stick) is a rod fixed on brackets. It is convenient to hang curtains on such a structure, having large eyelets, decorative loops or ties, a curtain as an attachment. That is, the bar is threaded directly into the loops (or they are fastened on it if they have Velcro or a decorative button), into the eyelets or a drawstring (the latter will completely hide the bar). For example, you can hang filament curtains on the curtains – they have it constructively provided.At the ends of such curtain rods, they usually put special end caps, sometimes very decorative.

Curtain rod-string is a steel “thread” fixed from the sides on special holders. It is good only for windows less than 3 m wide (taking into account the removal of the cornice from the sides). Otherwise, the wire will begin to sag under the weight of the curtain, even if its fabric is thin and light. String models are designed for thin tulles, curtains, veils. The composition can be multi-layered (then several strings are pulled), but it is hardly possible to make it opaque.

Profile cornice allows you to create multi-layer structures, while the thickness and weight of fabrics can be large. On such models, you can simultaneously hang tulle (perhaps even in 2 layers), curtains and lambrequins. It is convenient to hang Japanese curtain panels or models assembled on a curtain braid on such curtain rods (the main fasteners of the profiles are hooks).

When choosing a specific option, it is important to remember that it should be easy to remove the curtains from the ceiling cornice: the hooks or clips should be free of roughness, notches, distortions.The cornice should provide a comfortable distance not only in order to hide the ledge of the window sill or the radiator, but also so that the textile fabrics can be removed without hindrance. These are the subtleties of the calculation before installing the eaves structure.

By the way, in order for the curtains to end exactly “to the floor” from below, it is important to measure the length of the curtains, and then measure this distance not to the cornice, but to the fasteners – hooks, clamps, etc.

How to sew and hang window textiles beautifully?

It is not always possible to choose a suitable pair of curtain rod-curtains already means to ensure the beauty and neat appearance of the window.Hinges, drawstrings or eyelets will do their job by default. But what if the textiles are attached to clips or hooks? You will need to evenly distribute it between these fasteners so that nothing sags, so that the canvas drapes evenly. How to do it?

If the hostess has sewing experience, it is best, of course, to sew the curtains to the ceiling cornice yourself. It is both cheaper and will allow you to embody any idea. With this approach, there will be no difficulties with the design of the desired drapery.The easiest and most convenient option is to attach a curtain tape to the upper cut of the curtains. It will provide uniform assembly without sagging: by pulling on the special threads of the tape, the canvas is pulled together to the desired width.

Or you can lay uniform folds (preferably opposite ones) over the entire width of the curtain and topstitch them. If novice needlewomen have difficulties with sewing, you can find and watch the corresponding training video, and then follow the advice received.

But in general terms, sewing window textiles in the simplest version will not cause any particular difficulties. It is necessary to measure the correct length (cm above), add to it an allowance for processing the top with a tape, lay the required assembly factor in the width of the canvas (the degree of splendor of the curtains depends on it), taking into account the protrusions of the cornice over the edges of the window.

After cutting, process the side and bottom cuts with a hem seam, and draw the upper cuts with a curtain tape, bending the edge. It is only important to take into account that the length of such curtains will be longer than for fastening on a regular wall cornice, since the latter is always located somewhat lower.In order to properly hang window textiles on ceiling cornices, this nuance must also be taken into account. Otherwise, the window will look like “shot”.

More complex models of curtains – with draped details, linings, etc., are not recommended for beginners to sew, as there is a high risk of mistakes.

And what about the curtains? They are sewn in the same way as the curtains. But if the cornice does not imply the presence of a decorative panel behind which you can hide the fasteners, then it will not work to put the curtain cloth on the curtain tape: the tape will be ugly to shine through the thin matter.There is another mounting option here. It is necessary to tuck the canvas from the sides by a few centimeters and secure with a clip or clip.

Then find the middle of the piece and secure with a small fold, with a middle clamp or clip (there must be an odd number for this). Further, the left and right parts are gradually fixed according to the same principle: they find the middle clamp and fix with it a small fold in the center. This is done until all the fasteners are involved. This method requires a good eye.

Tip: For inexperienced dressmakers, it is better to refuse when sewing not only complex models, but also from fabrics that are difficult to process: loose, too elastic (distortions will inevitably go), too textured (the seams will turn out to be rough) or thin (they “ride” during processing, therefore, cutting and sewing them neatly will not work either).

In such cases, it makes sense to turn to the services of professional tailors, although for this you will have to pay a separate amount. However, the flawless appearance of the entire room depends to a large extent on the flawlessness of the window decoration.Therefore, the sacrifices will be justified.

Decoration of window openings with textiles using ceiling cornices has its own subtleties. But if you take them into account, the premises will certainly win and take on the look that its owners wanted to achieve.

We hang curtains on the ceiling cornice

The choice of how to hang curtains on the ceiling cornice depends on the general style of interior decoration, and on the number of layers of fabric from which the curtains are formed on the window and door openings.The easiest way to hang: transparent tulle and thick curtains. Such curtains are appropriate in different rooms and are always popular, but they also need to be hung correctly. Only then will the textile frame of the window serve as a decoration for the room.

Installation of ceiling cornice

You can find various types of ceiling cornices on the home market. They are very different from each other both in the method of attachment and in appearance. Among the options for hanging curtains are the following:

  1. The rod cornice consists of brackets and a rod resting on them.This option is convenient for curtains that have decorative loops, large eyelets that are part of the design, or a drawstring that adorns the top of the panel. The ends of the barbell are usually fitted with metal or wood lugs. These details can be additional decorative elements. Ceiling cornices are appropriate in a classic or Victorian setting, in harmony with any rustic style.
  2. Profile varieties allow you to conveniently hang multilayer curtains: with lambrequins, with additional decorative curtains and ties.The compactness of such products allows you to place up to 4 layers of fabric. This type is very convenient for Japanese curtains, webbing curtains. Suitable for almost any style where multi-layer curtains with fixed and moving panels are required. Thanks to the tips in the form of arcs, it allows you to close the window from the sides. A novelty – a flexible cornice – allows you to conveniently and originally hang curtains for zoning a room.
  3. The string, or string cornice, is invisible. It consists of side fasteners and a thin steel wire stretched between them, along which the curtain moves.The strings can be pulled in multiple rows to create a beautiful layered curtain. The disadvantage of such cornices is that when the length is more than 3 m, the wire sags under the weight of the fabric. String cornices are very convenient for thin transparent fabrics: the wire is invisible and does not create the illusion of a low ceiling.

Before hanging curtains, any kind of cornice must be attached to the ceiling. To do this, prepare the following tools:

  • Rotary hammer;
  • screwdriver;
  • measuring instruments;
  • plumb.

The length of the cornice for ready-made curtains is selected depending on their width and the owner’s desire to lay folds on the curtains. It should also be based on the size of the window or door: the side sections of the curtains are best positioned so that they cover the wall near the window or door frames by 10-15 cm.

The distance from the window at which the curtain will hang must be calculated so that the panel does not interfere with opening its sash, does not touch the plants on the windowsill and is located no closer than 5-7 cm to the heating devices installed near the window.

Transfer the width measurements to the ceiling and mark them. From a straight line drawn between them, lower the plumb line and estimate the distance at which it is located in relation to the central heating convector or plants. If necessary, move the width labels a little further from the window.

Focusing on these points, you need to install brackets or attach the runners of the profile cornice. For installation, dowels and self-tapping screws are used, included in the package of each product in the required quantity.The puncher must make holes corresponding to the fastenings in the bracket or profile. To do this, the part should be positioned so that the straight line marked on the ceiling coincides with the extreme string, bar or track on the profile, then make risks by passing a pencil or nail into the mount.

Drill dowel sockets, insert plastic capsules into them. Attach the bracket to the ceiling and screw the self-tapping screws into the holes. After installing the curtain rod, you can proceed to hanging the curtains.

How to hang curtains?

All layers of textiles that make up the window frame are divided by:

  • transparent – tulle, organza, thread and other varieties that do not obstruct the light and remain in place permanently;
  • workers – thick curtains that move by opening or closing a window opening;
  • decorative – various additions to the top and on the sides of the window or door opening, usually fixed.

All together form a multi-layer ensemble, which is called a curtain. Hanging methods depend on the overall style of the room, but most of the details can be used in different interiors.

These are decorative buttonholes that are often sewn to working panels. They are appropriate both in a rustic and in a strict Victorian setting, and in a classic design, if lambrequins are not used that cover the top of the opening. A thick barbell with expressive tips is best suited for this type of suspension.You can decorate the places where the loops are sewn to the panel with a bright button or bows. The bar is threaded directly into the fabric loops.

For modern styles (hi-tech, minimalism, etc.), you can make curtains with eyelets. Metal or plastic rings are installed directly in the panel, along its upper border. You can hang such a curtain on a rod or string.

The most convenient thing about eyelet curtains is that they easily fit in beautiful, even folds.

How to beautifully drape a cloth?

In order for the curtains to form beautiful folds, you need to know how to properly hang the curtains on the cornice.On the stick and string devices for this purpose there are rings and clips, and the profile one is equipped with hooks. The curtains are fastened to the cornices through these elements: the hooks can be inserted into the loops, and the clips and rings are equipped with clips.

But in order for the curtain to lay down in uniform waves, it is not enough just to attach it to the cornice. The folds need to be laid either when sewing or when hanging curtains from the ceiling. In order to make a wave or assembly when sewing, they take more material than is required by the measures of the width, 1.5-2 times.You can make a drapery when sewing like this:

  1. Sew the curtain tape to the wrong side of the panel. It consists of a fabric tape through which strong threads are stretched. The sewn tape must be collected by pulling these threads. As a result, the canvas will acquire a neat gather along the upper edge and form lush small folds.
  2. Mark the places for folds (opposite, bow, one-sided) on the fabric, fold the fabric as required and topstitch.

Any type of mount can be used to hang draped curtains.

Pleats on tulle

When hanging curtains with a straight panel, proceed differently. There is an old way how to hang tulle to make the curtain more luxuriant. This requires an odd number of rings on the cornice. First, the tulle must be attached along the edges for 2 rings on the left and right. In this case, the sides are tucked up to the window by 5-7 cm and 2 layers of fabric are clamped with a clip at once. Next, you need to disassemble the rings into 2 sides.1 ring will remain in the center.

Find the middle of the curtain, make a small fold and clamp it with a clip. On each half of the panel, do the same: disassemble the rings, find the center, fasten with a fold. Do this until the entire top of the curtain is folded. Then stretch the tulle along the cornice.

Pleats on the curtain

Smooth folds on a curtain suspended from a stick or string cornice can be made according to the same scheme. But what if a profile cornice with hooks is installed? In this case, curtain tape will help to beautifully fasten the curtains.

It must be sewn to the back of the panel, but not pulled together, but use the loops that are on it. It is more convenient to first put the hooks into the eyelets, and then hang the curtains on the ceiling cornice. Measure from the side of the curtain 10 cm and insert the hook. Bend the edge of the curtain so that this fastening element becomes the last, and put the loop on the edge of the tape on 1 hook with the one that will be next. Do the same on the other side.

The remaining loops along the entire length of the tape should be put on hooks in pairs.As a result, the entire panel will be collected in uniform, regular folds. Their depth and number depend on how to combine the loops: in a row or with 1-2 gaps.

If the curtains on the ceiling cornice are hung correctly (with neat drapery or assembly), then the appearance of the curtain will be perfect. Curtains hanging vertically can be given volume by pulling them together with grabs. Thin curtains can be sewn in the Austrian or French style, with scallops. All these techniques help to gracefully decorate windows.

How to hang and fix curtains on the ceiling cornice

When making repairs in an apartment, many are wondering how to hang new curtains on the ceiling cornice. Ceiling cornices are quite attractive in that they hardly stand out in the interior, and correctly selected curtains can become a real decoration of the room and it is not at all difficult to fix them on the cornice.

Many owners choose a ceiling cornice for the interior of their home.

Complete set of cornices for the ceiling and tools for installation

When purchasing a ceiling cornice, you need to make sure that it is complete, so that later there are no problems with its installation. The main element of the kit is a plastic profile with special grooves applied to it, its length varies from 1.2 m to 6 m, which allows you to cut off the size that is required for the cornice. Also, the kit may include rotary elements, plugs, dowels, various decorative components.

The ceiling cornice can also be mounted to the wall using a special bracket.

In order to fix the cornice to the ceiling, you will need the following types of tools:

  • electric drill;
  • hacksaw for metal;
  • roulette;
  • screwdrivers;
  • building level;
  • ruler;
  • pencil;
  • screws and dowels.

Installation of ceiling cornice

Fastening the cornice to the ceiling is not particularly difficult, which is its great advantage.First, you need to determine the layout of this decor element, the length of its elements will depend on this. Next, you need to measure, and then saw off with a hacksaw the profile of the required size, and if it does not have mounting holes, then they must be drilled with a drill taking into account the size of the heads of the mounting screws. On average, the distance between the holes should be about 50 cm.

Before fixing, it is necessary to make the correct measurements of the eaves length.

Next, the profile is applied to the place where it should be screwed, and the places of the holes for the screws are marked with a pencil.When determining the place of attachment of the cornice, several nuances should be taken into account: the line of the cornice should not be located very close to the window and the battery, this will avoid curtains snagging during their movement, the optimal distance is about 40 mm. Then, in the designated places, holes are drilled with a drill and dowels are inserted into them.

After that, the cornice is applied to the ceiling and screwed tightly into the marked holes. Despite the fact that the profile of the eaves is very soft, you should carefully hold it during installation in order to avoid breakage in places of sagging.Further, in the same way, the rotary elements of the cornice are attached to the ceiling.

Installation of the ceiling cornice to the wall

Sometimes a situation may arise when fixing the ceiling cornice to the ceiling is impossible, but the owners of the apartment want it. To get out of this situation, there are special brackets that allow you to fix the cornice on the wall. With this method of installation, the brackets are installed on the wall, and the cornice is attached to them by means of special plastic plates.This process is also not particularly difficult and is done fairly quickly. The choice of the distance between the brackets depends on the severity of the curtains, if it is supposed to weigh massive curtains, then the brackets should be placed no further than 50 cm from each other.

Fastening curtains to the ceiling cornice

Before fixing the curtains on the eaves, it is necessary to analyze some points:

  • design and style of the room;
  • way of fastening the cornice;
  • the number of layers of fabric and the presence of lambrequins;
  • weight of curtains;
  • eaves shape.

Most often, curtains are attached to the cornice with hooks.

Curtains need to be selected so wide that they protrude beyond the edges of the window by at least 15/20 cm, in this case they will look more attractive and will cover the window sill and the battery. Depending on the type of curtains, a two-row, three-row or four-row cornice is selected.

There are the following types of fastening curtains to the cornice:

  • hooks and rings – these are best for lightweight curtains;
  • eyelets are metal rings that are inserted into the fabric and allow the curtains to be automatically folded;
  • “crocodiles” – function as clothespins, and the presence of teeth contributes to the strong fastening of curtains;
  • fabric hinges – made of the same fabric as the curtains;
  • clips – similar to “crocodiles”, only they do not have teeth;
  • drawstrings – special pockets for dressing curtains, with a frill on top, which allows you to completely close the cornice.

After the type of fastener has been selected, you can start hanging curtains on the cornice. Each fastening element is quite convenient to use and can be easily attached to the curtains, after which it must be inserted into the guide grooves. If you need to get beautiful folds on the curtains, then the fasteners are placed at the same distance from each other equal to about 10 cm.

At what distance from the floor should the curtains weigh

The distance from the curtains to the floor also plays a role in the interior design.Depending on what effect you want to get, it is also chosen how much the curtains will or will not recede from the floor. Curtains lying on the floor are used mainly for bedrooms, since this option gives the room a special comfort and coziness. The most popular option is to hang curtains at some distance from the floor, which helps to save the edges of the curtains from contamination. However, for rooms with low ceilings, this method will not be very suitable, since this will further reduce the size of the room and deprive it of comfort.In this case, it is best to hang the curtains so that they are slightly in contact with the floor, which will visually increase the height of the ceilings.

By choosing beautiful, graceful curtains and hanging them correctly, you can achieve a design solution that will help add style and comfort to the room and visually transform the room.

How beautiful to hang curtains with and without cornice

The curtain plays a leading role in the design of the room.The right choice of material and color will radically transform a room. In addition, attention should be paid to the shape of the canvases, accessories and types of fastening. The fastening of the fabric can be done in different ways, including with the cornice.

Varieties of cornices

  1. Bar-shaped. They are attached with brackets to the wall. They consist of several guides on which tulle or curtains are hung. The material of the canvases is connected with rings that move freely along the bar.
  2. Cornice-string. They are used for light fabrics such as organza. Heavy material can cause sagging.
  3. Baguette. They are a plank made of wood covered with plastic tape.
  4. Profile. They consist of a structure where the runners are inserted. The attachment point for such cornices can be a wall or ceiling.
  5. Flexible. They are made of polymer-metal material. They are characterized by high flexibility.
  6. Telescopic. There are times when it is impossible to hold fasteners to the wall.In this case, the cornice expands between the walls with the help of springs built into the rod.

Types of curtain fastening

Some types of curtain fastening are hidden, others, on the contrary, stand in plain sight, having a beautiful appearance. Suspensions for curtains are:

  1. In the form of rings that easily slide along the rod, they are attached to the material with loops.
  2. Hooks. With its upper part, the hook hooks onto the guides, and the lower part – into the eyelets.
  3. Loops that are sewn to the curtain fabric and put on a round curtain rod.
  4. Eyelets. They are built into the fabric and put on a round cornice.

How to hang curtains correctly

Window shading is a process that requires consideration of factors such as:

  1. Window dimensions.
  2. Decor style.
  3. The type of cornice used.
  4. Fabric, its density and quality.

With the help of a curtain, it is easy to visually modify the living space in one direction or another. It must be remembered that the distance between the fasteners of the material to the cornice should be as small as possible.Then the material will lay down smoothly and beautifully.

There are tricks on how to hang curtains correctly to make the living room cozy and original:

  1. Asymmetry, when a longer curtain is placed on one side of the window.
  2. Mirror symmetry about the centerline of the window.
  3. There is a curtain in the center of the window, and the other two form symmetry with respect to it.
  4. Complex arrangement of curtains with all kinds of pickups and draperies.
  5. It is advisable to accompany any curtains with pearls or metal grabs.
  6. Use wide grips, and the material should be the same as in the curtain.
  7. Fantasize with loops, make them in the form of eyelets or bows.
  8. Decorate the folds of the curtain with all sorts of knickknacks.
  9. Use beautiful fittings.

On the ceiling cornice

Ceiling cornices are a very successful design, they are made of aluminum or plastic.How to hang curtains on a ceiling cornice:

    1. Rocker. They are used in the case of fastening the cornice to the wall, which should look like a pipe. The link must be fitted over the pipe.
    2. Suspension with crocodile-shaped clothespins, spaced at 15 cm intervals.
    3. Hooks that are attached to the curtain tape and cling to the curtain rod rings. If the cornice is of a profile type, then to the runners.
    4. Hooks sewn to the wide curtain tape.In this case, with the help of a wide ribbon, beautiful patterns can be formed.
    5. Applying double-layer Velcro tape. One side of the tape contains miniature loops and the other side contains micro hooks.
    6. Eyelets. Metal or plastic rings are embedded in the material, and then a pipe cornice is threaded through them. Plastic is preferred because it does not oxidize.
    7. Strings. Pieces of beautiful braid are sewn to the top of the curtain and tied in the form of bows on the cornice.

    Curtains over arch

    The doorway, made in the form of an arch, not only looks beautiful, but also creates the visual effect of increased height and width of the space. The following openings are made:

    1. In the form of muslin or thin transparent material. This gives the space an enlarged look.
    2. If the corridor is narrow, the eaves attachment should be higher than the opening with a lambrequin located on top. This visually expands the space.
    3. If the opening is low, the pattern on the curtains should be vertical to show an increase in height.
    4. If the hallway is small, then the curtain should be appropriate, preferably a light shade.
    5. In the case of a dark corridor, the curtains must be made of light-colored material.
    6. If the corridor is narrow and low, it is better to abandon the curtains, and place a lambrequin over the arch.

    It is not necessary to hang a curtain made of material on the door arch, you can, using hanging vertical threads , string beads, buttons, beads on them, which will create a beautiful image of a streaming sparkling rain.Braided braids can be used instead of threads. As a material for curtains on the arch, you can use suede or leather from unnecessary things.

    The curtain itself for the arched opening should be hung in several ways:

    1. On a straight cornice above the arch.
    2. Curved to follow the contour of the arch.
    3. The curtain is located inside the arched space on a flexible type cornice.

    Thus, the overall decoration of the room can be influenced not only by the quality of the material, but also by the method of fastening, the frequency of the arrangement of hooks and rings, and the beauty of the fold configuration.All this should be in combination and harmony with the room environment.

    How to properly hang curtains on the ceiling cornice

    Window decoration in the room begins with the selection of curtains. Depending on the design of the room, they can be represented by light tulle curtains, massive structures made of dense fabrics or decorative chains. But curtains cannot simply hang in weightlessness over windows. For this, there are special ceiling cornices.

    Almost the most common cornices are ceiling cornices.

    Window decoration with curtains on the ceiling cornice

    Ceiling cornices are more advantageous in terms of practical and aesthetic indicators than conventional wall cornices. Firstly, the structure itself is installed on the ceiling. In classic versions of the cornice, installation is carried out in the middle of the section of the wall, which is located above the window. Thus, the upper edge of the curtains does not completely cover the space under the ceiling, creates an extra horizontal line and makes the walls visually shorter.The ceiling cornice eliminates all these disadvantages.

    Hanging curtains on the ceiling cornice is much easier than it sometimes seems to non-professionals.

    Secondly, ceiling cornices have many design and construction options:

  • Pipes of various diameters, stylized in retro style;
  • Fine strings;
  • Baguettes gathering fabric in massive folds;
  • Practical tires.

Ceiling cornices are a very successful design.

Some types of ceiling curtain rods can cover the top of the curtains with frames, which can also be of different sizes, colors, styles and materials. So, for example, for a classic interior, a plastic frame with a shade like the ceiling is suitable. And minimalism and consistency of modernity will emphasize the metal of a light shade.

Wooden frames can be used for jacquard or country interiors.

Third, cornices can differ in shape:

  • Straight,
  • Curly (wave, snake, etc.)etc.),
  • Curved (bay window, multi-row bay window with folds, reverse two-lane bay window with folds, double-row cornice),
  • Single and multi-tiered.

Ceiling curtain rods have proven themselves to be excellent in use.

Fourth, there are many options for attaching fabric to the cornice. They can be represented as:

For the curtain to hang beautifully, the distance between the hooks should not exceed six centimeters.

However, all these types are not universal for each type of cornice.For example, curtain rods consisting of only one string are best used in rooms where windows are decorated with light tulle so that the structure can withstand the weight of the fabric.

Beautifully matched curtains for the ceiling cornice add comfort to the room.

Important! There is only one piece of fabric per row of strings or hooks. Otherwise, the fixings inside the eaves may not be able to support the weight of all curtains.

If the interior needs to achieve maximum layering or complexity of window decoration, it is better to use a plastic ceiling cornice for double-row curtains with hooks.They are better able to withstand thick and heavy fabrics.

Multiple rows will allow you to add several types of fabrics and decorative elements to one window.

How to hang curtains on a ceiling cornice: instructions and process description

How to hang curtains on the ceiling cornice on hooks, if the structure itself is not yet ready? No way, so first you need to go through several stages of preparation and direct installation:

It is necessary to measure the length of the ceiling cornice and the height of the room.

Installation of a completely assembled cornice, although it requires more time and someone else’s help, is much easier than redoing all the work yourself several times. After all, it is at the assembly stage that it becomes clear what specific length the cornice is needed. And if necessary, you can correct its dimensions with a hacksaw or return it to the store.

A suitable shape and design of the ceiling holder must be selected in advance.

Important! At the assembly stage, it is better to immediately fix all the hooks on which the curtains will hang with the help of plugs.After installing the product, it will not be so easy to do this.

The next step is marking. To do this, you only need a pencil, a ruler and a building level. With these stationery, you need to draw a straight line along the entire length of the cornice, constantly measuring the distance from the wall with a ruler. If the cornice has only two attachment points to the wall, then the attachment points must be symmetrically marked on the straight line.

Depending on the style of the curtain ensemble, a holder with the required number of rows must be installed on the ceiling.

Curtain rods are always installed on a hard and stable surface. Therefore, the installation sequence (third stage) is practically the same in all cases. An exception is the way of fixing the cornice.

Methods of fastening to a concrete ceiling

The third stage – installation for a concrete ceiling is carried out using a dowel of nails or glue, which can withstand from 15 to 80 kg / cm.

Before you start installing the ceiling holder, you must carefully study the instructions attached to the cornice.

For adhesive mounting, proceed as follows.

  1. Preparation of the base. It must be removed from all impurities in the form of paint or whitewash.
  2. After that, the surface must be leveled and primed.
  3. Leave to dry completely.
  4. When the surface is ready, you need to tackle the cornice itself.
  5. Glue is applied to the structure with a snake and applied to the ceiling.

Successful fastening of curtain fabrics will depend on the competently performed work.

Over the next 3 days, the glue will dry out, so it is not recommended to immediately hang curtains on it.

Fastening the curtain rail to the ceiling

  1. Determination of the length of the curtain rod. If necessary, remove the excess length with a hacksaw.
  2. Measure the tire and divide it into equal parts.
  3. Cut the metal bar into equal parts.
  4. File the sides.
  5. Mark the places for anchor bolts and screws, taking into account the peculiarities of the ceiling, the weight of the fabric and the number of lines for attaching the curtains.

These fasteners have increased wear resistance.

Important! If the fabric for the cornice is light, then the bolts and screws are located at a distance of 60-70 cm.If the curtains are heavy, then it is reduced to 20-50 cm.

  1. Drill holes.
  2. Place the tire against the marked line on the ceiling.
  3. Mark the fixing points.
  4. Drill holes in the ceiling.
  5. Place the rail and secure it.

In order for curtain products to hang in beautiful folds, you need to know how to properly hang curtains on the ceiling cornice using different types of fasteners.

Important! The holes for each type of fastening are different: for anchors, the holes in the ceiling and on the rail are the same, and for self-tapping screws, they are 1.5 – 2 mm smaller.

When the tire is securely fastened, it remains only to insert the hooks inside and hang the curtain itself.

How to correctly calculate the length of the curtains on the tape for the ceiling cornice?

All calculations on how to correctly measure the curtains must be made only after the cornice has been installed.This rule works in all cases, regardless of what type of cornice (ceiling or wall).

The beauty of curtains depends a lot on how they are hung.

To make all measurements, you need to take a construction tape. Its desirable size is from 3 meters. So that with its help it was possible to make calculations not only of the height, but also of the width of the fabric.

The wide tape can be used to create beautiful folds.

As for measuring the length itself, it directly depends on individual preferences.Curtains can be shortened to the window sill, to the radiator, long ones that do not touch the floor, or vice versa with a margin, etc. But, in spite of everything, one general rule works: measurements should be made not at the lowest point of the cornice, but at the place of attachment of the fabric. Hooks, rings, clothespins, etc. This rule does not work only in cases where the fabric is fixed with ties or eyelets.

For the manufacture of light curtains, soft fabrics are used that lend themselves well to drapery.

The peculiarity of curtains on the tape is that they are attached to the hooks from the curtain tape. They are hidden on the seamy side of the fabric and are one of the key parts of the curtains. Therefore, measurements must be taken taking into account the presence of the tape, and not only the length of the curtain fabric.

Hooks are used to attach the curtain to the profile cornice.

Instructions for calculating the height of the curtain on the tape

For each variant of the length of the curtains, there are unspoken rules of how many centimeters they should be from the nearest horizontal surface, namely:

  1. Shortened curtains should be 1 cm higher than the windowsill;
  2. The average length of the curtains is considered to be 10-15 cm below the windowsill;
  3. Long curtains do not touch the floor and are 5-6 cm above it;
  4. The elongated curtains have a full length from the attachment to the floor, and another 15-20 cm must be added to the resulting size.

The overall decoration of the room can be influenced not only by the quality of the material, but also by the way the curtains are fastened.

After the length of the fabric has been calculated taking into account the requirements, it is time to take care of the curtain tape, for which the curtain canvas clings to the cornice. Its standard size is 6 cm wide and has two attachment lines.

Many curtains on ceiling cornices are fixed to the braid.

So that the braid overlaps the hooks and does not add extra centimeters to the main length of the curtains, it is sewn to the upper edge of the fabric by a quarter of its width.And the fabric itself is hung by the lower near row of hooks.

Everything should be in combination and harmony with the environment of the room.

Thus, the calculations will look like this. Having measured the length from the attachment to the floor, we got an indicator of 247 cm.Add 6 cm of braid to this indicator and subtract 3 cm to close the hook or ring on which the product will hang. There is still 3 cm left, which make up the second row of loops and the place where the fabric is attached. As a result, the canvas turns out to be 250 cm.It is this indicator that must be indicated when ordering.

It is also worth considering the functional purpose of the curtains, that is, whether they will constantly move apart and move.

Basic mistakes when installing the cornice and hanging curtains

  1. It is imperative to use curtain plugs and stoppers to distribute the fabric evenly along the entire length.
  2. Peep-hole installation is not the right option. Before installing the eaves, it is necessary to symmetrically mark the joining of the structure to the ceiling.
  3. Self-installation of the cornice is not desirable and difficult. After all, you cannot simultaneously fix the screws with a perforator and make sure that the cornice does not deviate from the line.
  4. For ceilings of different finishes – different self-tapping screws. So, for example, for a putty base, plastic fasteners are needed, and steel fasteners for concrete.
  5. It is important to use an additional fixing to the ceiling in the middle of the cornice if it is medium to large.

By choosing the fixture that matches your ceiling cornice, you can hang the curtains and enjoy a cozy home interior.

How to hang curtains – OWN CURTAINS

How do I hang the curtains so that they hang in even folds without pulling them in with braids?

I’ll make a reservation right away, this method is suitable if you first put hooks on the curtains, and only then hang them on the cornice. Ceiling cornices are ideal in this case.

I advise you to take a closer look at the ceiling tire cornices.They are simple in design and not at all “capricious” to use. They are not afraid of high humidity, high / low temperatures, or direct sunlight. The light tire has amazing durability and is suitable even for heavy curtains. Plus it is affordable and widespread – for example, you can choose tire-shaped ceiling cornices in this store.

Well, and in our case it is especially important that in the tire cornice hooks-runners are used that slide along the track inside the profile.These sliders are ideal for creating even folds on the curtain, which I will discuss next.

We calculate the amount of material for this method of hanging curtains. We take the coefficient 1.5 plus 10 cm each for the technical folds of the curtain (after all, we want them to hang beautifully) plus 4 cm each for the hem of the side sections.

Let’s say the width of the cornice is 3m. We need to sew 2 curtains. 3×1.5 = 4.5m. We turn each curtain on the sides (technical gates) by 10 cm, this is another 0.4 m.And four side seams – plus 16cm. In total, we get 4.5 + 0.4 + 0.16 = 5.06m. Can be rounded to exactly five meters.

Why do we need technical gates? You can, of course, do without them, but I personally like it better when the side seams are not in sight, especially since the side seam sometimes cannot be properly ironed (there are such fabrics).

Curtain fabrics – a large selection, convenient service for selecting fabrics and calculating the cost of curtains on the website of our partner, the DrapeShop online store.

Let’s move on to practice. We retreat from the side edge of the curtain 10cm and hang the hook – this will be the extreme hook.

We turn the curtain on this hook, and we hang the next hook on two loops at once – the extreme one and the one opposite to it. We get a technical turnaround by this action. By the way, it can be made easier – just tuck it up when you sew the braid.

We put the next hook on the loop (closer to the turn) and thread the second loop with it after five centimeters.It turned out to be a small fold.

Further, along the entire width of the curtain, we put on the hooks in the same way, the distance between the hooks is 10 cm, and between the loops on one hook – 5 cm.

Do not forget about the technical turn-up on the other side of the curtain.

We got such uniform shallow folds along the entire width of the curtain. This is how the curtain will hang when the window is curtained.

When the curtains are pulled apart, they will also hang in even folds, only the folds will already be deep.

In this way, you can hang not only curtains, but also tulle, if the assembly factor is not large. It is rather difficult to evenly distribute the assembly on the braid with a small coefficient, it turns out “where it is thick, and where it is empty”, and in this case we will get a uniform assembly.

What are the types of curtain rods: photo with a description

Curtain rods are of various types and sizes, and the purpose is both utilitarian and decorative. In this article, we will consider what types of curtain rods are and provide a photo with a description.

Curtain rods can be classified according to three main indicators:

  1. 1 By the method of attachment to the surface – ceiling and wall.
  2. 2 By material of manufacture – wood, plastic, metal, combined.
  3. 3 In appearance – round, string, profile, baguette.

In addition, all of the above types of cornices are simple – single-row and complex – consisting of two or more rows. Simple curtain rods are used when it is planned to hang only one curtain or two on the window, but in one row.Complex curtain rods are used to fasten multi-layer curtain compositions, for example, consisting of curtains, tulle and lambrequin.

The fastening of the eaves to the surface mainly depends on the features of the walls and ceilings. The choice of the cornice itself depends on the interior style in which the room is decorated and the appearance of the curtains.

Round cornices

Decorative cornices with finials are made of wood or metal. They vary in style, size and color.Ranging from modern to classic, they give the window a decorative touch and match almost any curtain. Match them with rings with hooks or clothespins, depending on how you want to achieve the impression.

The sizes and designs of the rings are almost as varied, and their finishes help to create a common style in window decoration. Curtain pins eliminate the need to hem drawstrings or make loops.Combine cornices and rings in different ways to ensure that the window decoration looks perfect.

Decorative curtain rods are usually supplied complete with brackets or special holders. Since these models are quite heavy, attach the bracket or holder to the wall using long special screws.

Plastic tires and baguette cornices

These cornices are flat, have a width of 6 and 10 cm. They can be one, two or three cavities. They are easy to find and match to the width of the windows.On them, the curtains are perfectly collected in small folds. They can be installed both on the wall and on the ceiling.

Baguette cornices allow you to hide and beautifully decorate a plastic tire.

Plastic tires are inexpensive, affordable, easy to handle. Since they look more utilitarian than decorative, they are hidden in drawers or under lambrequins.

Cornices made of high quality plastic (PVC, polyvinyl chloride) )modern environmentally friendly material, the most budgetary option.They are not only wall-mounted, but also ceiling-mounted, and the design of some cornices makes it possible to fix them with equal success both to the walls and to the ceiling. The most popular color of plastic curtain rods is white, but there are other colors on sale, including wood and metal.

PVC cornices are lightweight, durable, can be both round and shaped and, depending on the design, can be combined with any interior style. Profile models can be bent in different directions, installed in several rows and attached to non-standard openings and walls, bringing to life the most incredible decorative fantasies.

Plastic tires with a decorative baguette strip are very popular today. They can be purchased as a set, or you can buy a strip separately, for example, when the design of an existing cornice does not match the interior too much. Therefore, baguette cornices can be made not only of plastic, but also of aluminum, as well as string and even round ones.

On sale there is a wide selection of baguette strips of all sizes, colors and textures. They can be stylized in antique style, painted in different colors, imitate the texture of different tree species.It will not be difficult to choose the right decor for the finished interior, even for such rare window openings as bay window arches.

Profile

Profile cornices can be of different colors and shapes. In addition, it is the most convenient option for non-standard windows: bay windows, attic and corner windows. They can also be of different lengths and thicknesses, which makes them versatile.

Strings

Light string curtain rods are ideal for modern interior styles.However, they are intended only for light curtains made of airy fabrics: organza, tulle, voile, etc.

Modest and laconic string curtain rods are no less popular than metal, plastic and wood varieties, largely due to the very affordable cost.

Eaves-strings with equal success can be attached both to the wall and to the ceiling. Their main part is a thin metal cable that looks like a guitar string.Its length ranges from 2 to 5 meters.

The cable is fixed on a plane using small brackets or brackets. Their design allows, if desired, to fix it in two or three rows and hang multilayer curtains on it. Of course, they should be lightweight.

Brackets for string cornices can be painted in metal colors that are very fashionable today, imitating brass, bronze, gold, patched silver. And if you are not satisfied with their uncomplicated laconic design, you can always cover such a cornice with an interesting and beautiful baguette bar.

Eaves “cafe”

These are graceful cornices with finial finials, most often made of polished copper or brass. They are mounted on a window frame or on a wall using the brackets included in the kit. Rings with clothespins are hung on the eaves of the “cafe”, sometimes cloth loops are sewn to curtains or shuttlecocks.

Spacers

These curtain rods are adjustable in length and fit almost any window.They are held in place by a spring that is hidden inside the rod. Spacer models are ideal for installation inside window frames, do not require fastening brackets and screws that damage the wooden frame elements.

Mechanical and automatic

These curtain rods are designed to open or close curtains using rollers and other mechanisms. They are double, the curtains on them move apart in both directions, or single, when the curtains move only to one edge of the frame.You can find decorative mechanical or fully automatic electric models.

Lifting eaves for Roman, Austrian and French curtains

Lifting models are used for fastening Roman, French, English and Austrian curtains. They also differ in the design of the lifting mechanism: rotor-chain and cord-controlled.

Eaves for Japanese curtains

The design of Japanese curtains is not quite ordinary.The fabric on them does not gather in folds, but is tightly stretched, and they can not only be pushed to the sides, made in one line, but also, without removing from the window, can be arranged one after another or interchanged. Therefore, they need a special cornice, consisting of several guides and with a ceiling mount.

In order to be able to freely move the curtain-panels and change their places, each panel needs a separate guide (track). In cases where the curtain consists of 2 or 3 panels and it is not planned to interchange them, you can limit yourself to a cornice of two tracks.The panels are attached to the cornice with adhesive tape, one half of which is fixed on the upper part of the panel, and the other half on the runners moving along the profile paths.

Eaves for Japanese curtains are available with manual – independent or dependent and automatic control. Let’s consider them in more detail:

  • Independent manual control. The canvases are moved separately, holding their edges with hands.
  • Dependent manual control. Each canvas depends on the neighboring one.They move only in groups or in pairs. In order to open or close the curtains, you need to pull the cord or rope.
  • Automatic control. Curtains on such a cornice are controlled with the help of
  • remote control – just take it in your hand and press a button. The automatic curtain rod weighs more than the manual curtain rod of the same size, since it is made heavier by the electric drive.

For standard windows and curtains consisting of 2-3 panels, a manually operated cornice will suffice.For large and panoramic windows and curtains consisting of 3 or more panels, it is better to choose cornices with automatic control.

When choosing a mechanism for controlling Japanese curtains, it should be borne in mind that manual control allows the panels to be positioned in any sequence, while with the help of rope and electric control, the panels move and move apart only in one pattern.

Curtain rods for Japanese curtains are made of plastic and metal.

The most common and budgetary option is manual plastic curtain rods.They are suitable for windows of medium size and not too heavy curtains, consisting of 2-3 panels.

If you plan to hang more than 3 panels in front of the window, it is better to give preference to an aluminum alloy cornice. It is capable of withstanding significant loads and does not deform even after many years of operation.

In cases when you need to decorate a large panoramic window and it is supposed to install an automatic control on the cornice, it is better to choose a product made of hard alloy metals treated with a special moisture-repellent coating.Such a cornice will last even longer than an aluminum one and will look like new for many years.

Furniture handles

This fastener is suitable for curtains with fabric hinges. The handles give them a fun and original look.

Cabinet and drawer door handles can be used. You will need two threaded screws to secure the handles to a wall or window frame.

Tips for choosing a curtain rod

Finding the right cornice that can hide flaws and emphasize the dignity of the interior is not so easy.For this, several important points must be taken into account:

  1. 1 Any cornice is designed for a certain load. Therefore, before buying it, you need to at least approximately estimate the weight of the curtains.
  2. 2 Find out which curtain mounts (eyelets, clothespins, loops, hooks, and many others) are suitable for the curtain rod you like. They should correspond to the type of your curtains, and move freely along the cornice, silently, without stopping, and without clinging to each other,
  3. 3 For light curtains, constructions with any type of fastening are suitable – both ceiling and wall.For heavy curtains, it is advisable to choose a ceiling mount that can withstand heavy loads. But if the ceiling is stretched, it will be necessary in advance, before stretching it, to provide a niche on it for fastening the cornice.
  4. 4 The location of the heating pipes and the size of the window sill also influence the choice of the cornice. It should be fixed in such a way that all these elements do not interfere with the free hanging of the curtains.
  5. 5 Do not forget that a correctly selected and correctly mounted cornice can hide flaws and emphasize the advantages of the interior as a whole.So, a narrow window can be “expanded” by fixing a long cornice above it with curtains that partially or completely cover not only the window opening, but also the wall, and the low ceiling can be “raised” with the help of a ceiling cornice and curtains hanging from the ceiling to the very floor.

Curtain Care | Logos

Curtains are an integral part of the interior of a modern home. The color, style and style of curtains play an important role, but even the most sophisticated, but poorly hanging curtains can ruin the look of any room.This is why it is so important to make sure that your curtains really decorate the windows and the overall look of your home.

First of all, you need to choose the appropriate type of curtain rod or profile, taking into account the style and design of the curtains. Drawstring curtains, hinged curtains and eyelet curtains are designed to be threaded directly onto the curtain rod.

Small and other fashionable drapery folds are predominantly suitable for hanging on profile and ceiling curtain rods, although you can hang curtains in a pleat on a round curtain rod (rod) using hooks and rings.

Using drapery tape will help you hang your curtains neatly over your windows. It is recommended to attach the hooks to the tape every 6-8 cm. After that, they begin to hang the curtains: they are tucked into the tracks of the ceiling cornice, or they are attached to the rod rings.

The materials used for the manufacture of curtains are varied: heavy dense velvets and velors, the finest organza and veil, smooth silky satins and satins. Often, curtains are complex textiles with several layers of various fabrics, lambrequins, tassels and other details.On average, one window contains from 10 to 50 square meters of fabric. For hygiene, cleanliness and allergy prevention, curtains should be cleaned regularly.

Textile care

Preparation for cleaning

Curtains, like any object, trap dust, particles of tobacco smoke, animal hair, pollen and other contaminants. If we want to keep our home clean, then we cannot do without cleaning the curtains.

First, you need to remove the curtains from the eaves.For plastic and aluminum profiles, remove the side caps (you can only on one side), now the curtains and drapes will easily slide off when you slide them to the edge. Remove all metal hooks, you can leave the fastened plastic hooks. To remove the product on the eyelets, you will have to remove the bar from the brackets and allow the eyelets to smoothly “slide” off it. Keep them from falling from a height to avoid damage. A product with eyelets can be washed in a washing machine, but they must be removed when dry cleaning.

Next, check all attached special care badges and labels. Follow all recommendations. If you sewed curtains to order, your designer will give these recommendations. If you yourself bought fabrics and know exactly their name and composition, then you can see the recommendations for washing these fabrics.

Weekly / monthly maintenance

Curtain ventilation

Airing is the easiest and most effective way to keep your curtains fresh.Open the window wider, slide the curtains and let them sway in the wind for a few hours. The smell of dust that appears in the curtains over time will disappear. If you can do this procedure at least once every few weeks, your curtains will stay fresh and clean for a long time.

Cleaning curtains with a vacuum cleaner

The curtains can be cleaned with a vacuum cleaner. Regular dust removal is necessary to ensure that dust particles do not bite into the fibers of the fabric, because when dust penetrates into the structure of the fabric, it is not easy to remove it.You need to clean the curtains with a vacuum cleaner with a special soft brush attachment, paying special attention to their inner side, folds and fringes.

Steam

You can use a steam generator to freshen up your curtains. But you should be aware that when cleaning with steam, only dust is removed from the surface of the curtains. Also, fabrics made from natural fibers and their mixtures should not be steam-treated.

Curtains cleaning

Curtains are cleaned at least once a year.It is advisable to clean curtains of light shades and curtains made of expensive fabrics every six months.

There are a number of aspects that need to be taken into account when choosing how to clean curtains:

fibrous composition;

Polyester is a fabric made up of polyester fibers. They are very durable and soft. Polyester perfectly holds its shape when heated and is perfect for pleats and curtains of complex cut. Polyester curtains are machine washable.In this case, you should use a gentle washing mode at 30-40 ° C, 600-800 rpm.

Cotton, linen, wool, silk – all these are fabrics made from natural fibers. If you wet-clean natural fiber curtains, they will shrink. On curtains with a length of three meters, shrinkage can be 10-15 centimeters. In addition, dyes used for natural fibers often behave as less persistent than dyes for synthetic fibers. Therefore, wet cleaning may cause discoloration of the fabric.Dry cleaning is suitable for curtains made from natural fabrics and their mixtures.

complexity of the curtain model / design;

Curtains with an abundance of draperies, folds, as well as such decorative elements as fringes, ribbons, tassels, braids, flowers, cannot be washed in the washing machine without damaging the product. Only dry cleaning is indicated for such curtains. The higher the complexity of the design of your curtains, the more delicate the cleaning should be.

product size;

Curtains up to 12 m2 and curtains up to 15 m2 can be washed in a household washing machine.Larger curtains should be dry cleaned.

pollution degree.

In case of a high degree of soiling, before washing the curtains in the washing machine, you must first run them in the rinse mode at 30 ° C, and then in the gentle wash mode at 40 ° C. The rinse can be repeated if necessary.

If the degree of soiling is low, you can immediately start washing the curtains without rinsing first.

Please note that all aspects must be taken into account together! For example, if your curtains are made of polyester, up to 12 m2 in size, without any decorative trim, then you can safely wash them in the washing machine, taking into account the degree of soiling and the recommended washing modes.But if the same curtains are made of polyester, up to 12 m2 in size, decorated, for example, with a decorative ribbon, then it is better to give them to dry cleaning. After all, the presence of a decorative element, in this case a ribbon, can lead to the fact that the fabric will shed and the product will be damaged.

General recommendations for the care of curtains

• Protect curtains from mechanical damage, do not allow various chemicals to come into contact with the fabric.

• Before placing the curtains in the washing machine, they must be carefully folded, preferably in a special mesh bag for washing.In no case do not push the curtains in a lump, do not wash with other things.

• It is undesirable to bleach curtains.

• Dry the curtains flat

• Do not dry curtains in direct sunlight.

Curtain rod care

Curtain rod can be cleaned with household liquid cleaners and a soft brush to remove dust from cracks, decorative parts and the inside of curtain rod rings and hooks.

Spray an anti-static cleaner periodically onto the curtain rod and curtain tops to keep house dust from collecting there.

Care of fittings

Fittings for curtains are a structural element that helps to create a complete look of a textile composition.

The service life of accessories: magnets, cords, hooks, decorative beads, curtain pins and curtains – depends on their care. It is important to know the material from which the decorative elements are made, since with a careless attitude, they can deform or break.

Magnets, cords, beads and other metal, wood, ceramic and plastic decorative elements should be wiped from dust, you can use liquid detergents, soap solutions.

You can hand wash the hooks and other small textile parts at a temperature not exceeding 30 ° C using hand wash detergents.

How to attach curtains to the ceiling cornice?

How to properly hang curtains on the ceiling cornice

Window decoration in the room begins with the selection of curtains. Depending on the design of the room, they can be represented by light tulle curtains, massive structures made of dense fabrics or decorative chains.But curtains cannot simply hang in weightlessness over windows.

In classic versions of the cornice, installation is carried out in the middle of the section of the wall, which is located above the window.Thus, the upper edge of the curtains does not completely cover the space under the ceiling, creates an extra horizontal line and makes the walls visually shorter. The ceiling cornice eliminates all these disadvantages.

Hanging curtains on the ceiling cornice is much easier than it sometimes seems to non-professionals.

Secondly, ceiling cornices have many design and construction options:

  • Pipes of various diameters, stylized in retro style;
  • Fine strings;
  • Baguettes gathering fabric in massive folds;

  • Straight,
  • Curly (wave, snake, etc.),
  • Curved (bay window, multi-row bay window with folds, reverse two-lane bay window with folds, double-row cornice),
  • Single and multi-tiered.

Ceiling curtain rods have proven themselves to be excellent in use.

Fourth, there are many options for attaching fabric to the cornice. They can be represented as:

  • Hooks;
  • Rings;
  • Tires;
  • Strings, etc.d.

For the curtain to hang beautifully, the distance between the hooks should not exceed six centimeters.

However, all these types are not universal for each type of cornice. For example, curtain rods consisting of only one string are best used in rooms where windows are decorated with light tulle so that the structure can withstand the weight of the fabric.

Beautifully matched curtains for the ceiling cornice add comfort to the room.

Important! There is only one piece of fabric per row of strings or hooks.Otherwise, the fixings inside the eaves may not be able to support the weight of all curtains.

If the interior needs to achieve maximum layering or complexity of window decoration, it is better to use a plastic ceiling cornice for double-row curtains with hooks. They are better able to withstand thick and heavy fabrics.

  1. Assembly;
  2. Markup;
  3. Installation.

Important! At the assembly stage, it is better to immediately fix all the hooks on which the curtains will hang with the help of plugs. After installing the product, it will not be so easy to do this.

Important! If the fabric for the cornice is light, then the bolts and screws are located at a distance of 60-70 cm.If the curtains are heavy, then it decreases to 20-50 cm.

All calculations on how to correctly measure the curtains must be made only after the cornice has been installed. This rule works in all cases, regardless of what type of cornice (ceiling or wall).

The beauty of curtains depends a lot on how they are hung.

To make all measurements, you need to take a construction tape.Its desirable size is from 3 meters. So that with its help it was possible to make calculations not only of the height, but also of the width of the fabric.

The wide tape can be used to create beautiful folds.

As for measuring the length itself, it directly depends on individual preferences. Curtains can be shortened to the window sill, to the radiator, long ones that do not touch the floor, or vice versa with a margin, etc. But, in spite of everything, one general rule works: measurements should be made not at the lowest point of the cornice, but at the place of attachment of the fabric.Hooks, rings, clothespins, etc.

  1. Shortened curtains should be 1 cm higher than the windowsill;
  2. The average length of the curtains is considered to be 10-15 cm below the windowsill;
  3. Long curtains do not touch the floor and are 5-6 cm above it;

  6. The cornice itself should be longer than the width of the window: at least 20 cm on each side.
  7. The distance from the window to the curtain should be at least 10 cm so that the fabric does not touch the radiator.
  8. Self-tapping screws must be installed in the wall together with dowels.
  9. Measure the length of the fabric not from the base of the cornice, but the junction of the fabric and fastening.
  10. The main mistake of incorrect measurement is that many do not take into account the width of the curtain tape, which is included in the curtain length indicators when ordering.Thus, most of the curtains are of the wrong length.

We hang curtains on the ceiling cornice

The choice of how to hang curtains on the ceiling cornice depends on the general style of interior decoration, and on the number of layers of fabric from which the curtains are formed on the window and door openings. The easiest way to hang: transparent tulle and thick curtains. Such curtains are appropriate in different rooms and are always popular, but they also need to be hung correctly.Only then will the textile frame of the window serve as a decoration for the room.

Installation of ceiling cornice

You can find various types of ceiling cornices on the home market. They are very different from each other both in the method of attachment and in appearance. Among the options for hanging curtains are the following:

  1. The rod cornice consists of brackets and a rod resting on them. This option is convenient for curtains that have decorative loops, large eyelets that are part of the design, or a drawstring that adorns the top of the panel.The ends of the barbell are usually fitted with metal or wood lugs. These details can be additional decorative elements. Ceiling cornices are appropriate in a classic or Victorian setting, in harmony with any rustic style.
  2. Profile varieties allow you to conveniently hang multilayer curtains: with lambrequins, with additional decorative curtains and ties. The compactness of such products allows you to place up to 4 layers of fabric. This type is very convenient for Japanese curtains, webbing curtains.Suitable for almost any style where multi-layer curtains with fixed and moving panels are required. Thanks to the tips in the form of arcs, it allows you to close the window from the sides. A novelty – a flexible cornice – allows you to conveniently and originally hang curtains for zoning a room.
  3. The string, or string cornice, is invisible. It consists of side fasteners and a thin steel wire stretched between them, along which the curtain moves. The strings can be pulled in multiple rows to create a beautiful layered curtain.The disadvantage of such cornices is that when the length is more than 3 m, the wire sags under the weight of the fabric. String cornices are very convenient for thin transparent fabrics: the wire is invisible and does not create the illusion of a low ceiling.

In more detail: “How to hang the ceiling cornice correctly?”

Before hanging the curtains, any kind of cornice must be attached to the ceiling. To do this, prepare the following tools:

  • Rotary hammer;
  • screwdriver;
  • measuring instruments;

Attach the bracket to the ceiling and screw the self-tapping screws into the holes.After installing the curtain rod, you can proceed to hanging the curtains.

How to hang curtains?

All layers of textiles that make up the window frame are divided by:

  • transparent – tulle, organza, thread and other varieties that do not obstruct the light and remain in place permanently;
  • workers – thick curtains that move by opening or closing a window opening;
  • decorative – various additions to the top and on the sides of the window or door opening, usually fixed.

All together form a multi-layer ensemble, which is called a curtain. Hanging methods depend on the overall style of the room, but most of the details can be used in different interiors.

Useful information: “Methods for attaching curtains to a stretch ceiling”

These are decorative buttonholes that are often sewn to working panels. They are appropriate both in a rustic and in a strict Victorian setting, and in a classic design, if lambrequins are not used that cover the top of the opening.A thick barbell with expressive tips is best suited for this type of suspension. You can decorate the places where the loops are sewn to the panel with a bright button or bows.

In order for the curtains to form beautiful folds, you need to know how to properly hang the curtains on the cornice. On the stick and string devices for this purpose there are rings and clips, and the profile one is equipped with hooks. The curtains are fastened to the cornices through these elements: the hooks can be inserted into the loops, and the clips and rings are equipped with clips.

But in order for the curtain to lay down in uniform waves, it is not enough just to attach it to the cornice.The folds need to be laid either when sewing or when hanging curtains from the ceiling. In order to make a wave or assembly when sewing, they take more material than is required by the measures of the width, 1.5-2 times. You can make a drapery when sewing like this:

First, the tulle must be attached along the edges for 2 rings on the left and right.In this case, the sides are tucked up to the window by 5-7 cm and 2 layers of fabric are clamped with a clip at once. Next, you need to disassemble the rings into 2 sides. 1 ring will remain in the center.

Smooth folds on a curtain suspended from a stick or string cornice can be made according to the same scheme.But what if a profile cornice with hooks is installed? In this case, curtain tape will help to beautifully fasten the curtains.

It must be sewn to the back of the panel, but not pulled together, but use the loops that are on it. It is more convenient to first put the hooks into the eyelets, and then hang the curtains on the ceiling cornice. Measure from the side of the curtain 10 cm and insert the hook. Bend the edge of the curtain so that this fastening element becomes the last, and put the loop on the edge of the tape on 1 hook with the one that will be next.Do the same on the other side.

The remaining loops along the entire length of the tape should be put on hooks in pairs. As a result, the entire panel will be collected in uniform, regular folds. Their depth and number depend on how to combine the loops: in a row or with 1-2 gaps.

If the curtains on the ceiling cornice are hung correctly (with neat drapery or assembly), then the appearance of the curtain will be perfect. Curtains hanging vertically can be given volume by pulling them together with grabs.Thin curtains can be sewn in the Austrian or French style, with scallops. All these techniques help to gracefully decorate windows.

Fastening curtains to the cornice

Hello! Welcome to the website “About Furniture & Textile”.

In this article, you will learn all the details about the possible ways of attaching curtains to various curtain rods, and first take a look at these inspiring examples.

Options for attaching curtains to the cornice primarily depend on the type of cornice and the type of curtains.I did a detailed review of the types of curtains in this material, and a detailed overview of possible curtain rods in this article.

Next, I have broken down the methods of attaching curtains to the cornices by the types of cornices.

Fastening curtains to tubular cornices

Let me remind you that in tubular cornices, a round or rectangular pipe acts as a supporting structure to which the curtain is attached. It is on it that you will hang the curtains.

The set of eaves includes rings and hooks-suspensions.If they are not included in the kit, do not be discouraged and do not rush to buy them, there are ways to attach curtains without rings and hooks.

In this case, the mounting scheme is as follows:

  • The curtain rings are put on the curtain rod (the rings are used to move the curtain along the curtain rod)
  • on the rings fix hangers – hooks
  • curtains are hung on hooks.

Plastic, wood or metal is the material for the production of cornice rings.As a rule, it depends on the type of cornice.

Suspension hooks are most often made of plastic or metal. Suspensions are of various modifications and, depending on this, are capable of performing different functions.

Hangers in the form of regular hooks

Such suspensions will require additional efforts from you. To hang the curtain from a similar suspension to its canvas, you will need to sew on loops, rings or an attachment tape, to which the hook will cling – the suspension.Loops or rings are sewn into the upper part of the curtain in 10-15 cm increments. The fastening tape is sewn to the curtain from above along the entire width. The tape contains threads for decorative gathering of curtains and hanging loops.

The disadvantage of this method of attaching curtains is the need for large-scale sewing work to prepare the curtains for working condition.

The plot contains detailed instructions for sewing the curtain fastening tape to the curtain fabric

Hangers in the form of clothespins

People call them “crocodiles”.This type of suspensions captures and firmly holds the curtain with its “teeth” and does not require additional elements to hang. The hangers of the clothespin are installed with a step of 15-20 cm. When choosing this type of fastener, the model with a metal “crocodile” is preferable. They are more reliable and hold the canvas more tightly than plastic models. This is especially true for thick and heavy curtains.

The disadvantage of this option is that the “crocodile” can damage the curtain fabric. With a “bite” can form puffs and holes in the fabric.Therefore, it is better not to use this type of fastening on curtains made of lightweight fabrics.

Fastening the curtain to the tubular cornice on the eyelets

Eyelet – a type of sewing accessories. It serves to strengthen the edges of the holes made in the curtain fabric, with the aim of further using these holes for threading a cornice rod or cornice string through them.

The scheme of fastening on the eyelets is the following

  • Eyelets are installed in the upper part of the curtains with a pitch of 15-20 cm.
  • Then a cornice pipe is passed through them
  • The pipe is fixed in the bracket of the cornice

The grommet consists of two parts – a ring and a counterpart – a sleeve, it is also called a “block”.A sleeve is inserted into the hole punched in the fabric on one side, and on the other side this sleeve is fixed with a ring. As a result of fixation, the eyelet is firmly held on the fabric.

Eyelets are recommended to be used for types of curtains made of dense fabric. On light curtains, it can wrinkle the fabric.

The shape of the eyelets are round, rectangular, triangular and even curly.

Grommet has two basic sizes

  • external dimension, e.g. for round eyelets this is external diameter
  • inner dimension, for example, for a rectangular eyelet these are the dimensions of the inner rectangle

When buying an eyelet, be sure to consider its inner size.It should be 1-2 cm larger than the cross-section of the eaves pipe. Then the curtain fabric with eyelets will easily move along the eaves pipe.

An interesting combination of eyelets and Velcro. The upper part of the curtain consists of a strip that contains eyelets on the top and Velcro along the entire width of the bottom. The main curtain also has Velcro at the top.

By the disadvantages of fastening to the eyelets, I would attribute the fact that to install them you will need a certain skill and besides it, there is also a special hole punch.Without this, it is not very easy to install the eyelets neatly on your own, but it is possible.

The photo shows an example of a punch for installing eyelets

Watch the video, with a step-by-step story on how to correctly install the eyelets.

Fastening the curtain to the tubular cornice on the hinges

The loops are sewn into the upper part of the curtains. Curtain loops are made from strips of fabric or ready-made braid. The fabric on them can be the same as on the curtain, but it is permissible to use fabric of a different color and texture.It depends on the style. In classic versions of curtains, it is better to use one color and type of hinges and fabrics.

Hinges can be hidden or visible. Concealed loops are sewn flush on the top back of the curtain. In this case, the curtain hides the eaves pipe.

But the visible hinges, on the contrary, are fixed on top of the canvas and they act as an additional decorative element.

Hinge mounting scheme

  • The curtain rod is threaded through the hinges
  • Next, the pipe is mounted to the cornice
  • If the hinges are detachable, then you can simply fasten the curtain to the cornice without removing the cornice tube.

The recommended distance between the loops is 20-25 cm. The optimal height of the loops can be calculated as follows: add 7-10 cm to the diameter of the eaves pipe. Do not make the loops very narrow. This will make it difficult to move the curtain along the eaves pipe.

The width of the loop strips depends on the style and type of curtains.

Stripes can be:

  • narrow in the form of a braid, their width is 1-2 cm. Usually such loops are used for light curtains
  • wide, width 5-10 cm.Wide loops are appropriate for massive blackout curtains.

Hinges for fastening curtains can be

  • “blind” – such loops do not open, they are completely sewn to the canvas, in profile they look like the letter O.
  • buttonholes – this look has a button fastener or similar. Detachable loops with fasteners. This makes it easier to attach the curtain to the cornices, there is no need to remove the pipe from the cornice, you can fasten the canvas to the mounted cornice.The disadvantage is that buttons on curtains are not appropriate in every interior.
  • drawstring loops – refer to detachable fastening options. From the name it is clear that this species is tied to the cornice with a regular knot or bow. In my opinion, the disadvantage of strings is the difficulty of making all the loops – the bows are the same in appearance. As a result, the suspensions look chaotic, and this inconsistency disturbs harmony. And in the shifted state, such loops look like a ball of tangled pieces of fabric, which is also not aesthetically pleasing.Although this is my assessment. Perhaps you have a different look. The taste and color….
  • Velcro loops – detachable mounting option. The Velcro is sewn to one side of the loop, and the second part of the Velcro is sewn either to the curtain at the base of the loop, or directly to the base of the loop. This method of attaching the curtains is quite convenient to use, the main thing is to use high-quality Velcro so that the curtains do not fall off. As a minus, I would attribute the not very aesthetic appearance of such elements.

Fastening the curtain to the tubular cornice on the “drawstring”

Fastening on the “drawstring” is a type of curtain mounting to the cornice, in which the upper edge of the curtains is tucked in and stitched so that a channel is formed – a hole along the entire width of the curtain.A cornice pipe is threaded into this hole, like into a sleeve.

The width of the hole in the “drawstring” should be 1 – 5 cm larger than the diameter of the eaves pipe.

The method of attaching the curtain to the “drawstring” is as follows:

  • The cornice tube is threaded inside the drawstring hole along the entire width of the curtain
  • The pipe is assembled in place on the curtain rod holders

The disadvantages of the “drawstring” include the fact that such a fastener, due to its design, makes it difficult to smoothly move the curtain along the pipe.Therefore, it is preferable to use this installation for fixed curtain models.

Fastening curtains to string cornice

Let me remind you that in string cornices, a string made of metal or elastic PVC acts as a supporting element. It is still preferable to use a metal string, as PVC can stretch over time and the curtain will sag.

In fact, fastening curtains to string cornices is not much different from the options for fastening to tubular cornices.

In string cornices, the curtain can be attached to rings with hooks and suspensions of all types, to eyelets, to hinges and to a drawstring. All these ways of attaching curtains are described above.

Perhaps the most significant difference is that the diameter of the string is significantly smaller than the diameter of the supporting tube. Therefore, consider this point when choosing the size of rings, hooks, eyelets and loops. You should not choose them too large. It is desirable that all elements are commensurate with the diameter of the string.

The photo shows examples of attaching curtains to a string cornice.

Fastening curtains to eaves with guide profiles

In these cornices, fasteners are fixed to the cornice profiles for hanging the curtain. In most cases, these are hooks and suspensions.

For attaching curtains to hooks hangers can be

  • Sew rings or eyelets from a cord on the top of the curtain. The diameter of the rings and loops should be slightly larger than the thickness of the suspension hook, then the curtains will hold on to the suspensions more confidently.
  • Sew on the mounting tape, which contains the hinges for installation and fasten the hooks of the cornice to these hinges.

In order for the curtains to become a truly wonderful decoration of the room and the main decorative detail of the interior, they must not only be correctly selected, but also correctly attached to the ceiling cornice. How to do this will be described below, but you can also follow the photo or video instructions.

Installation of cornice

First you need to figure out how exactly you need to fix the ceiling cornice itself, which should also include all the necessary fasteners.The eaves must be fastened using special brackets fixed at the edges. However, if the length of the curtain holder is more than two meters, then in the middle it is necessary to install another additional bracket.

This is how the ceiling cornice for curtains looks like

But in principle, the number of fasteners can be any, according to your desire, because they in no way impede the movement of the gliders. It is advisable to use more bindings if you plan to hang heavy curtains in multiple rows.

By the way, there are several types of ceiling cornices, the choice of which always depends on the type of curtains:

  1. profile – structures or metal or plastic profiles with paths for attaching curtains. Often these cornices have a decorative outer strip;
  2. sticks – structures attached to the ceiling surface, into the brackets of which long sticks are inserted;
  3. strings – designs similar to the previous ones, but in this case, strings are stretched between the cornices.This type of curtain rod is ideal for light, airy curtains.

Once the ceiling cornice has been successfully installed, you can begin attaching the curtains to it.

Hinged curtains

Since there are several ways to hang curtains on the ceiling cornice, choose the appropriate one based on the following points:

  1. the total number of layers of material that need to be hung, including lambrequins;
  2. design room decoration;
  3. massiveness and weight of curtains;
  4. form and design of the cornice.

It is also worth considering the functional purpose of the curtains, that is, whether they will constantly move apart and move, or serve only as a decorative element. If the window opening will be decorated with working curtains and tulle, then they need to be fixed on a three-row cornice. If you also plan a lambrequin, then you will need four rows.

As you can see from the photo, there are several different types of fasteners with which you can hang curtains or drapes on the ceiling cornice:

  1. Hook rings are the most common fittings that can be sold complete with curtains or separately.Hooks can also be used independently. It should be noted that this fastening involves sewing special loops to the curtains;
  2. “crocodiles” – a kind of clothespins that provide reliable fastening, thanks to the teeth;
  3. clips – similar to the previous version, only this hardware does not have teeth, and therefore it is better to use it only for light curtains;
  4. eyelets – the most effective fittings for tubular cornices, which are metal rings sewn directly into the material.;
  5. fabric loops – a very original method of fastening, in which wide loops are made from the same material as the curtains themselves;
  6. drawstring, which is provided at the stage of sewing curtains. This method is notable for the fact that when closed, it will give the impression that there is no cornice at all.

So, by choosing a fixture suitable for your ceiling cornice, you can hang the curtains and enjoy a cozy home interior. When combined with a beautiful holder, elegant curtains, thick or light, solid or with bright prints, will always create stunning visual impact, making the room stylish and elegantly decorated.

We started the topic of attaching curtains in the first part of the article, where we analyzed such methods as ties, loops, eyelets and rings. However, there are much more options, and today we will talk about the rest, having analyzed their stylistic affiliation and pros and cons from the point of view of practical use.

What to look for when choosing?

Fixing curtains on the cornice is a rather important question, because the wrong choice can completely ruin the whole impression of the beauty of the curtains and the interior as a whole.

When choosing a suitable method of fastening, they are guided not only by the general style of the room, but also by the density of the matter, the type of cornice. For example, you can place curtains on a drawstring only on tubular cornices. For curtain rods that are fixed to the ceiling, only methods such as hooks and curtain tape are available.

Some types of fastening allow you to keep the curtain straight, others contribute to the formation of beautiful vertical folds. In some rooms, stricter options are preferable, in some, a touch of simplicity is welcomed.

You need to think in advance how you want to see your window, whether lambrequins will be present, whether the window decoration will become an accent in the interior or will simply complement the overall design. Consider whether the overall structure will be heavy or light.

The issue of finance is also important. Some of the bindings are cheap, others are pretty decent to install, and still others can be made by yourself from scraps of fabric.

Interesting: Small buildings: we explain carefully

What types of fasteners are most often used for curtains

Fasteners for curtains to the curtain rod are selected based on the design of the curtain rod itself, the density, texture and color of the fabric, as well as the features of the curtain model.In addition, when choosing them, you need to take into account the interior style of the room. The main types of curtain mounts are as follows:

  1. strings;
  2. loops;
  3. drawstring;
  4. eyelets;
  5. braid;
  6. hooks;
  7. clamps.

Let’s take a closer look at them.

What to consider when mounting?

It’s easy to get lost in the variety of accessories. Sometimes curtain rod manufacturers make the task easier and sell fasteners in a set.Sometimes they are part of the curtains, but in some cases they need to be selected separately. When thinking about how to hang curtains on the cornice, you need to take into account:

  • eaves structure;
  • density and weight of panels;
  • material, size and appearance of fittings.

For telescopic and rod curtain rods, eyelets, rings and fabric fasteners are suitable: loops, ties, drawstrings. These structures have a circular cross-section, only the rod-shaped ones are fixed to the wall using brackets, and the telescopic ones are fixed between the two walls.They consist of two plastic or metal pipes nested one inside the other. Cornices of this type are quite noticeable and should be in the same style as the curtains. Tubular and rod structures are highly durable and can withstand heavy panels. And for thin translucent ones, on the contrary, they seem too massive.

Filament curtains can also be hung on a round cornice. To do this, you will need to sew a drawstring on them. Crocodile clips or small-diameter rings are often put on string cornices.They can be left open or hidden behind a lambrequin. Profile and tire eaves will help out when necessary, so that the structures do not attract attention. And also profile is indispensable for the design of curved openings. Busbar structures are made of plastic, and they have a low cost.

Baguette designs differ from the previous two only by the presence of a decorative strip. Complex fabric compositions can be placed on them without hiding the base behind a lambrequin. Runners with hooks serve as fasteners for them, as well as for busbars and profile ones.

Eyelets

Eyelets are not in vain a popular option for attaching curtains and curtains. With their help, you can easily create soft, uniform folds on the fabric. The curtain has an attractive floor-to-ceiling appearance. It is convenient to remove curtains with such fasteners. The main advantage of such fasteners is the ability to make curtains from heavy dense fabrics. Eyelet curtains cannot be accidentally torn off.

A wide range of sizes and colors allows you to choose them for any interior.But if we compare all the ways of attaching curtains from a financial point of view, then this one is one of the most expensive. In addition, eyelets are not commonly used for lightweight and lace fabrics.

The color of the eyelets should be in harmony with the color and texture of the cornice.

How to decorate custom windows?

In houses or apartments it is not uncommon to find windows of a different shape than the standard rectangular one.

Panoramic openings are now very common. If the option with traditional sliding curtains does not appeal to you, pay attention to the hourglass tulle.It is suitable for both straight and sloped windows. With the help of tulle installed in a similar way, you can also decorate the doors, since it is attached directly to the sash on special cornices.

Triangular windows are usually designed with pleated blinds. This type is called so because it is a specially treated fabric cloth, pressed in the shape of an accordion. Pleated blinds can be laid in any shape, including fan-shaped. They are secured with double-sided tape.

For the design of semicircular window openings, not only arched cornices are used. Curtains attached to an ordinary wall cornice look beautiful. Moreover, the cornice can be installed both above the curved edge and below.

It will look interesting if you fix the curtains with forged cornices.

When framing windows that are much taller than a person’s height, a pointer is provided for the movement of the curtains in the mounting structure. With its help, you can easily and easily open or close the curtains without pulling on the panels themselves.Such a device is very convenient. The pointer can be easily hidden behind a curtain, and, if necessary, taken out again.

You will learn how to properly hang the curtains on the curtain tape from the following video.

Ways and types of fastening

Next, we will tell you more about all types of fasteners, their design features and style, in which they will look harmonious.

Drawstring

The simplest mounting option: it is done quickly and does not require additional fittings.It is necessary to bend the upper edge of the canvas and sew on a typewriter. A cornice rod is threaded into the resulting hole. The drawstring will also withstand heavy fabric, but it looks much more beautiful on tulle or thin curtains made of natural fabric. This type of fastening is suitable not only for “rustic” styles. Thin curtains on the drawstring, falling to the floor, will decorate the room in the style of Art Deco, modern, new classics.

This method of fastening the fabric is suitable for rooms where it is convenient to keep the windows half-curtained.The gathering of the fabric on the cornice prevents the curtains from fully opening. The most suitable options: rooms in the attic, a bedroom and a nursery, possibly a kitchen and a bathroom.

Hinges

Fabric loops are sewn to the curtain or fastened with buttons or Velcro. They can be made from the fabric of the main canvas or contrasting in color and density. The loops, like the drawstring, are easy to make with your own hands. They will decorate rooms that are not intended for prying eyes. They are difficult to move and drape – only vertical folds of different depths are obtained.Pickups will help to diversify the shape a little. This mount is suitable for both classic and modern interiors. It complements the Scandinavian style especially well.

Strings

Another type of fabric fasteners, very similar to loops. Ties are made from fabric, ropes and ribbons. Their lower sides are sewn to the curtain, and the upper ones are tied with a knot or bow. They are combined with curtains made of airy, translucent fabric, as well as linen and cotton. These fasteners are rather decorative: they are inconvenient to move along the cornice, but bows or straight ribbons will become an additional decoration for the room.

Bow ties look romantic and cute, and therefore will be a godsend for a bedroom in Provence and vintage style. Long ribbons tied with a simple knot can be combined with the classics. And if you sew pieces of lace to curtains made of thick linen or cotton in natural shades, you will get an interesting addition to ethnic or eco-style.

Convenient and aesthetically pleasing way of attaching curtains. Fittings are often sold with a curtain rod. It can be metal, wood and plastic.To hang the curtains, the rings are strung on the cornice, and the fabric is attached to them using inconspicuous clips, hooks, or simply sewn on. The fasteners can be combined with fabrics of any density, they will withstand even heavy curtains. Forms uniform folds, the appearance of which can be varied with the help of curtain tape.

Curtain rings will always be in sight: they must correspond to the general style and color scheme of the room. Metal fittings will complement modern interiors: hi-tech, minimalism, loft.Wooden is suitable for traditional styles – classic, art deco, modern, country. And it will also become a godsend for the ethnic direction.

Multi-colored plastic details will help to liven up plain curtains in the nursery.

These fasteners hardly wear out. They move freely along the cornice, but unpleasant sounds are possible. If the curtains are not sewn on, washing is straightforward. You can freshen up the curtains along with the rings, but it will be much more difficult to remove and hang them.

Sewn into the upper part of the curtain and form neat holes through which the cornice rod is threaded.Eyelets are made of metal and plastic, there are options of different diameters. As a rule, curtains with such an attachment are made to order. Perfectly combined with dense, heavy fabrics. Deep vertical folds appear on the slightly shifted curtain. On thin fabric, the eyelets will look bulky, moreover, they can tear it. These details are almost invisible, so they can be used in rooms for different purposes and different styles.

Curtains on eyelets will decorate rooms in a classic or retro style, they will be appropriate in the directions of grunge and loft. Thanks to the laconic form, they are combined with the directions of minimalism and hi-tech.They are durable, rarely break down, easily move along the bar. But the movement of metal rings on a metal cornice can be noisy.

Hooks, clips and pegs

Unobtrusive parts that can be used as standalone mounts or in conjunction with rings. Suitable not only for wall, but also for ceiling cornice.

Hooks are available in metal and plastic.

  • Metallic sew on to the back of the fabric. They are suitable for closed and busbar curtain rods, and together with rings – for string or rod.Curtains on hooks are easy to move along the guides and, if necessary, remove, but the fabric is better to choose a thin or medium density. Have no style restrictions. The disadvantage of metal fasteners is a harsh sound when driving.
  • Plastic hooks are available for profile and baguette curtain rods, as well as for some busbar structures. They look unattractive, so they are often covered with decorative details. They are inexpensive, but break down quickly. Not suitable for heavy curtains.

Clothespins – “crabs”, “crocodiles” – are suitable for closed bus structures, and for open ones. They are put on open cornices with the help of rings. These attachments allow you to easily remove and hang curtains, change their length and shape the folds of the fabric to the desired shape. They are quite characteristic and will become an interesting part of a vintage interior. On a closed eaves will not be visible.

It can be difficult to choose the fabric to match these fasteners. It should be both not very heavy and dense at the same time.Curtains will shorten the service life of the fittings, and thin fabric will suffer from denticles. The modern version of clothespins is magnetic clips. They consist of a soft metal loop and two plates, between which a cloth is threaded. The force of attraction between the plates is sufficient to hold medium-weight curtains and thin curtains. Additional holes, hinges and fittings are not required

Braid

Its other name is curtain tape. Facilitates the process of placing curtains on hooks or rings and allows you to create unusual folds.Consists of a strip of fabric and laces threaded through it, from which loops of the desired length can be formed. The tape is sewn on the back of the fabric. Products differ in width (2-17 cm) and density: you can choose a suitable option for almost any fabric. Curtain tapes are made of cotton and nylon. Not only sewn, but also several types of glue are produced.

Curtains with ties

Curtains with ties are made of light materials in light shades with an unpretentious printed pattern in the form of flowers or peas.Ties are sewn along the upper edge of the curtain, and they must be so strong that they can easily withstand the weight of the curtain.

As ties you can use braid, colored ribbons, pieces of rope. You can sew the ties yourself from any suitable type of fabric.

Most often, the design of curtains with the help of strings can be found in a teenage girl’s room, bedroom or kitchen. Everywhere they create a light romantic atmosphere.

Velcro tape

Some types of curtains are attached to the eaves with a regular Velcro strap.For example, such a tape is sewn into the upper part of Roman and Japanese curtains, roller blinds for plastic windows.

Curtain rod with Velcro tape can be made to order, or you can make it yourself with a little effort and using a minimum of materials.

how to hang curtains correctly and beautifully

Seeing beautiful curtains on eyelets in the catalog, I immediately wanted to buy the same ones. True, I had doubts, but would I be able to hang such curtains myself after washing? And is such a mount so reliable?

Before giving preference to one or another method of attaching curtains, you should pay attention to several factors:

– type of cornice – ceiling or wall;

– material density and curtain weight;

So, if the curtain rod is fixed to the wall, the curtains can be hung using all possible methods: eyelets, hooks, clips, curtain tape, hinges and others.The main thing is that the curtain moves freely and silently along the cornice.

When choosing a hanging method, the density of the material and the weight of the curtain are of great importance. It is better to attach a light translucent tulle with small hooks or put on a thin curtain tape. Eyelets or thick metal rings will not work for this type of curtain.

Fastening to the cornice with a curtain tape has many advantages:

However, eyelets also have their drawbacks, which must be taken into account when choosing accessories for hanging curtains:

– high cost of fixtures;

– difficult installation – it is possible to equip curtains with this type of fasteners only with the help of a special press, so it is better to entrust the work to professionals;

– Difficulty using eyelets to hang weightless fabrics such as organza or tulle;

– noise when moving metal rings along the cornice.

A very simple and functional way of hanging from the cornice is metal and wooden rings. They differ from eyelets in that they are located not inside the canvas, but outside. The rings can only be used for round curtain rods.

The curtain is attached to the ring in different ways: using hooks, one end of which is sewn to the canvas, and the other clings to the ring, sewn to the rings, suspended using curtain tape and curtain hooks

Hinged curtains

This type of fastening is a decorative loop made from the same material as the curtains. The loops can be sewn from both ends to the edge of the curtain, and then, in order to hang the curtain on the cornice, you will have to thread the bar through the loops.
