I couldn’t be happier with this set. I’m always skeptical of gel ink. The color can easily be off than that of what is represented but not here. The color on the barrel is identical to the ink inside. Having the eraser a constant on top and making the retractable piece the clicker is genius and overall the selling point for me with these quality pens.

1. How do FriXion products work?
Our FriXion products’ ink “erases” due to PILOT’s exclusive thermo-sensitive ink technology. When you want to make corrections on your page, simply turn around your FriXion pen and rub with the FriXion eraser tip as if using a regular pencil eraser. While rubbing, the ink heats up to over 60°C and becomes invisible.
2. Help! I use FriXion pens and my notebook / page is now empty without a trace of my work! What should I do?
Leaving items such as notebooks, homework or paper near heaters, in a car on a hot day or even putting pages through repeated photocopying, can heat the paper sufficiently to make FriXion ink invisible. If you find your page to be empty, simply put it in the freezer for a short period of time. Our thermo-sensitive ink reappears at around -10°C, so your work should reappear once more when the pages sufficiently cool.
3. Help! I left my FriXion pens outside in the heat and now they no longer work!
Just as the ink disappears when pages are left in the heat, so can the ink inside the FriXion pens. If your pen doesn’t seem to be writing, try to remember whether the pen may have been over-exposed to heat. If so, try putting your pen in the freezer until it sufficiently cools. After taking your pen out of the freezer and letting it readjust to room temperature, it should write again like new.⇑ BACK
4. Where can I find a Pilot reseller?

5. Is there a risk when using a Pilot product on an airplane?
Only liquid ink products from our V-System range require your attention on an airplane. They are easily identifiable by their name which starts with a V: V5, V-Ball, V-Pen, etc….
If you are taking a V-System product with you on a flight, remove the cap with the pen pointing upwards.
Only the liquid ink models V5/7 RT and V-Ball 5/7 RT are guaranteed completely leak free on airplanes without any special handling.⇑ BACK
6. Are Pilot products safe for children?
All of the inks and barrels used in our products have been designed for maximum safety, particularly with regards to children. For example, our markers do not contain toxic solvents such as Xylene or Toluene.
Furthermore, the caps on our non-retractable models satisfy the ISO 11540 standard. They are equipped with a ventilation system which allows breathing in case the cap is ingested.

7. How do I start the ink in some of the markers?
Before the first use of our Gold or Silver type markers, we recommend you follow these instructions:
- Phase 1: Gently shake the marker with the cap on.
- Phase 2: Once the cap is removed, gently press the nib on the paper, so that it is pushed into the body of the product. The valve is activated and frees the ink.
- Phase 3: The marker is ready, you can write.
In order to retain all the technical qualities of our markers, we recommend that you ensure the cap is replaced firmly after use and they are stored horizontally.⇑ BACK
8. How do I remove ink from clothing?
Firstly, avoid washing the soiled clothing before removing the stain, which risks permanently setting the ink.
There are several tips for removing ink from clothing:
- Spray hair spray on the stain, blot away the surplus spray using a clean cloth or absorbent paper, then wash normally.
- Soak your clothing in hot milk for several hours, rinse in plenty of water then wash normally.
- Place the article on a clean white cloth and dab the stain with another white cloth soaked in white vinegar or 90% proof alcohol. Wash normally.
9. Where can I find refills, cartridges or even leads or eraser refills?

Pilot Frixion Colour Pen review – Pens! Paper! Pencils!
When I was at school, many many moons ago, I remember how an erasable pen felt like some kind of holy grail. We had to write in pen, we made many many mistakes, and we wanted to obliterate all those mistakes so our teachers would never see. All we got, though, were pens with granite-like erasers that removed the ink by rubbing away all the paper the ink was sitting on. No good at all. Over the years many companies have tried to perfect the erasable pen and Pilot, I think, have come the closest to getting something that’s useful with their Frixion rollerball. This Colours pen is an attempt to make an erasable colouring pen using the same technology.
I was able to get this pen at a discount thanks to Cult Pens’ support of the site. These are my own honest opinions.
Tip size options: 1mm only
Barrel options: white plastic; cap matches ink colour
The pen itself looks quite nice, with a white plastic barrel featuring a subtle grey swirl pattern, a small barcode, ‘Frixion Colours’ misspelled in different colours and ‘remove by friction’ in grey. The long grip section is the same colour as the ink, as is the translucent cap. All in all the result is a pen that looks fun and modern.
The cap has an inside piece to seal the tip and stop it from drying out. I’ve had this pen quite a while and this seems to work very well. The cap posts deeply and has a little sticky out piece to stop your pen from rolling away. The pen’s very light and so the balance isn’t affected by posting. It’s a good length posted or not.
The ink colour is a little washed out. The Frixion rollerball pens suffer from the same problem. Also, when you’re colouring in an area it’s very hard to achieve a smooth effect: you can see each stroke.
Frixion pens work by using friction to heat up the ink and make it disappear. Putting the paper in an oven would have the same effect. Putting it in a freezer makes it all come back. There’s an eraser on the end of the cap, which is much more convenient. It works extremely well. You can also write back over areas you’ve erased without any ill effects.
I would like the colour to be stronger and for the strokes to be less obvious but this is a felt tip pen that you can erase. That’s pretty amazing.

I had just finished a series of slow flight, stalls, and steep-turn maneuvers and relinquished the controls to him. Final approach is another phase for guarding the throttle in a hands-on fashion, both to simplify fine tuning your descent rate, and to be prepared for a go-around.
Out of curiosity, I entered “friction lock” as a search term in the Aviation Safety Reporting System database. It produced 24 instances implicating the device in events that motivated pilots to file safety-related reports. Not all were throttle friction locks; one report by a biplane pilot described an engine failure after takeoff when a friction lock on a mixture control was not properly engaged.
So get a grip—perhaps not a “death grip”—and guard your throttle. And if you happen to fly an aircraft that’s seen a few more miles than most, or is unfamiliar to you, add a twist for me.

Pilot friction marker or the very moment when you can return everything backI don’t have a lot of office work, but a marker sometimes comes in handy. Especially when structuring printed information for yourself: highlight the main theses, highlight important points.
Of course, in the office you can always get a marker and use it calmly, but I really wanted to try the opportunity to remove the marks.

The cap proudly bears the inscription PILOT light frixion, and the slogan “remove by friction” on the body. Why am I focusing on this? Yes, because it has been in use for quite a long time, and the paint on the outside has not peeled off or peeled off and the marker still has a neat appearance. Which is nice.

Yes, of course, the marker is not completely removed and the yellow tint is slightly noticeable on the paper. Therefore, it is best to avoid using it in important / unique documents. However, in all honesty, I will say that the marker copes with the declared functions and is suitable for use.

Although most wells are drilled vertically today, differences in lithology and BHA deficiencies result in most of the 100 kt. wells drilled annually deviate even slightly from a strictly vertical trajectory. Such deviations can have serious consequences if on the surface the well is located near the boundary of land ownership or a problem formation, and the well trajectory is shifted beyond this boundary. Even wells that are virtually non-vertical can have twisted or twisted boreholes. Weaker formations with interlayers of hard rocks can cause abrupt changes in the angle of the well trajectories (high local intensity of curvature gain) at any inclination.It is possible that the degree of deviation and tortuosity of the wellbore will only become known if there are unsuccessful attempts to reach the final depth while logging or running the casing string due to excessive friction.
In the vast majority of cases, the cause of this unintentional, and sometimes quite significant, deviation is the presence of inclined formations. Without special drilling methods or technologies, the well trajectory will not run vertically, but along the path of least resistance, that is, in the direction of the formation dip. This situation is compounded by increasing the ROP by increasing the WOB to its maximum. On the other hand, lowering the WOB to control deviation can lead to a decrease in ROP. Even when measures are taken to minimize deviation, it is often necessary to carry out an additional run to return the wellbore to vertical.
Typically, this is done using a downhole motor in combination with a PDC bit. While PDC bit technology has taken a big step forward in recent years, steerable drilling with PDC bits can be slow and difficult.It is often necessary to use a lighter bit to prevent jamming, but it wastes time in reorienting the tool face to match the direction of the offset. Both of these factors significantly reduce drilling efficiency and ROP can drop by more than 50%.
VERTICAL DRILLING SYSTEMS
Automated vertical drilling systems can significantly improve economic performance by automatically correcting deviations and reducing the time required to drill straight sections of the wellbore. In addition, these systems provide for the creation of “light” well structures, i. E. with the upper and intermediate strings of a significantly smaller diameter than for a standard casing profile, but while maintaining the possibility of using an equivalent diameter production string. A smooth, full-length vertical or deviated hole allows the casing to be run with minimal clearance, which results in a “lightweight” profile. The smaller bore generally takes less time to drill, and the costs of pipe, cement and cuttings removal are reduced by value up to 30%.
The V-Pilot ™ vertical drilling system is a new device for drilling straight holes in high temperature and harsh environments. The operation of the system is based on a hydromechanical principle, which provides automatic trajectory correction when deviating from the vertical by a fraction of a degree.
When used to drill straight sections, the V-Pilot system allows operators to drill with more weight on the bit to increase ROP. In addition, this system is less sensitive to vibrations that occur when drilling in difficult conditions, as it does not have built-in electronics. Generally, the most problematic component when drilling under vibration and / or high temperatures is the electronics.
DESCRIPTION OF THE SYSTEM
The system consists of a vertical control subsystem and a downhole motor. Four vertical blades, evenly spaced around the circumference of the tool, are positioned close to the drill bit for smooth directional correction of the wellbore.Gravity valves direct fluid to one or two shoes to create corrective force. Although the system is specifically designed for use with the new generation of high performance downhole motors, it can also be used with traditional downhole motors to better match the hydraulic power of small drilling rigs.
The V-Pilot system is equipped with elongated spiral above-bit stabilizers to achieve high bore quality and eliminate or significantly reduce spiral and ledge formation even under heavy WOB, thus improving overall drilling efficiency. Experience with elongated bits and other advanced drilling systems has shown that the time required to expand the hole is reduced and the bit life is significantly increased. As a result, there is less overhead and less drilling time compared to traditional drilling methods. The system has a built-in mechanical device that responds to a deviation from the vertical by less than 0.2 °. Under severe drilling conditions, typical of hard formations, severe vibration of the drilling assembly occurs.The mechanical design is designed to minimize friction and provide far more cushioning, allowing the V-Pilot to respond to the smallest of lean angles. Since the system is completely mechanical, the temperature does not affect its performance. In addition, it effectively dampens vibration, eliminating its effect on the system’s sensitivity to barrel tilt. The activation system opens and closes valves that transmit hydraulic pressure to one or two vanes. The setting of this pressure can be adjusted in the workshop to suit the drilling conditions. The hydraulic system can generate extremely high lateral forces to overcome the highest natural deflection forces. The blades are in a retracted state until correction is required, which increases their life and reduces the drag in the well. The vertical control subsystem is connected to the downhole motor. The V-Pilot oil chambers are mechanically isolated from rotating components. The only seals in the tool are static seals for temperatures up to 200 ° C.All oil chambers are pressure balanced. They withstand high hydrostatic pressures and compensate for thermal expansion of the oil.
For drilling in very hard formations, often found in foothills, the system is designed to accommodate high performance straight wall motors. This technology provides the highest ROP at maximum WOB and torque requirements.Motors are selected based on criteria that best match rig performance and geological conditions. The V-Pilot system consists of two modules, which allows you to change the engine directly on the rig, taking into account the characteristics of the formation and the bit. The correction system in VPilot works automatically, without operator intervention. The hydromechanical system does not need computers, cables or skilled operators. Inclinometry can be performed using MWD systems, or by periodic measurements with a retrievable inclinometer.
The tool exits the auto correction mode when the column rotation speed exceeds 25 rpm. The shoes are then automatically retracted. This allows the tool to act like a traditional smooth layout and extend the bore from the bottom up. Keeping the blades in the retracted position during string rotation reduces the likelihood of damage and reduces drag in the well. The presence of the top stabilizer and the very large mass of the system can lead to a pronounced pendulum effect, even when the blades are retracted, which provides a natural tendency to drill vertically.The extreme rigidity of the system makes it highly resistant to bending, which can be caused by lateral forces that occur when the bit interacts with inclined formations.
The system has undergone two trials in Alberta, Canada, in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, where vertical control is a major issue.
TEST # 1
The first test consisted of two runs, one run for each prototype instrument.The goal was to drill a 610-meter wellbore for a surface conductor while maintaining the minimum possible angle (within 2 °).
The penetration rate at the site was from 2 to 7 m / h. The V-Pilot system was equipped with a 9-5 / 8 ”GeoForce ™ straight wall power section with a 6: 7 pitch.
The first tool was run from the surface and drilled 261 m at an average ROP of 7.7 m / h. There was significant axial vibration during drilling, but the tool continued to work.The deviation of the V-Pilot from the vertical did not exceed 1 ° until the inclinometer showed a gradual increase in inclination (0.2 ° by 30 m) and an inclination angle of 0.9 °, which was associated with a known feature of the prototype instruments, which was removed from the project, but remained in the instruments themselves during testing. Then the first tool was brought to the surface, the second was assembled, and a shock absorbing sub was added to the BHA to reduce severe vibration. The second tool drilled 263 m at a ROP of 4 m / h.The system smoothly corrected the slope to 0.2 ° per 100 m. Vibration levels were significantly reduced, indicating that the damper sub was performing well.
Then the slope began to increase, as on the first voyage, due to the same design feature, reaching 1.3 ° before the descent was terminated. The remaining 87m of the interval was drilled with a conventional motor with a set offset of 1.15 °. The slip-to-rotation ratio required to maintain vertical while drilling with a steerable system has shown that the V-Pilot system is able to overcome the natural tendency of 3 ° deflection at 30m in the formation.The same bit was used on all three runs in a given interval.
Typically, three to four bits are required to drill a given interval elsewhere in the field, thanks to the use of an above-bit centering sub that limits bit offset from the true borehole axis.
This geometry has been used with both steerable and rotary steerable drilling systems for seven years, providing consistent results that have led developers to incorporate it into the V-Pilot system design.
Proof of the high quality of the wellbore drilled under this project is the fact that it took only 1.75 hours to expand the well, and the resistance during trips into the well was negligible, which is not typical for this field.
The interval was completed ahead of the deadline specified in the approved financial estimate. After dismantling, it turned out that the reason for the unsuccessful adjustment of the direction of the barrel was a known design feature of these tools.However, despite the very high vibration levels on the first run, no sign of significant vibration damage was found on the tools.
TEST # 2
The second test used redesigned V-Pilot tools. V-Pilot began drilling at 95 meters where the inclination was 0.79 ° and reduced the inclination to 0. 4 ° for the next 27 m. At 128 meters, the rig experienced a power failure and the assembly stuck.As a result of jarring, the assembly was released and drilling resumed, during which the V-Pilot system worked just as efficiently.
The system successfully drilled 621 m while maintaining a deviation of 0.5 ° throughout the interval, except for one section where a 0.7 ° deviation was established. ROP varied from 5 to 25 m / h, in part due to the high WOB (24,000 decN) the system was designed to handle.Typically, ROP at similar intervals is 7-10 m / h.

Pilot is the largest of the big three pen manufacturers in Japan (Pilot, Platinum, Sailor). The 78g model was produced for the Southeast Asian markets and was marketed as a “school pen”.

Design | Packing
Pilot 78g packaging will be seen by a rare owner of this pen, as the pens are sold in a cardboard box of 12 pcs. The pen itself is packed in a simple plastic bag.On the body of the pen there is a sticker indicating the width of the pen. The sticker can be easily removed if desired.

Without a doubt, black color, in combination with gold trim, looks the most advantageous and “rich”. But, if you are already fed up with the black color among your pens or the official dark shades in the corporate dress code, then the other 78g colors are for you.The non-black colors of the Pilot in this model are muted, unobtrusive, and at the same time saturated.
The back of the handle, section, cap are made in one (selected by you) color.
The cap is finished with gold stripes, and the stripes are applied directly to the body, that is, from a gold paint. These rings will usually wear off over time, which will slightly change the appearance of the pen.

The handle is quite light in weight, but not too light to seem too light in the hand (12 grams). Lovers of heavy handles are not recommended. For the majority, yes.

Pen and writing
The feather is steel, a little springy, but insignificantly. Most importantly, the pen glides over the paper with ease and ease.Nibs from Japan are usually written one and a half thinner than nibs of the same stated width from Europe and the United States. In this case, this is exactly what happened: the F pen writes much thinner than the F pens from other regions, that is, it gives a very thin line, so beloved among fans of writing with a pen and a “ball” in the vastness of Russia. When writing, the pen emits a light characteristic sound – as if it rustles. The sound is light, I would say old-fashioned, and at the same time attractive.
The body of the pen is made entirely of plastic and this plastic is of good quality.Casting is also of high quality – no gaps, no backlashes – Japan, however!
The cap is attached to the body on a thread, it is held securely.
Pilot 78g is equipped with a cartridge / converter refueling system. Pilot’s cartridges are of its own standard, quite capacious, but it is difficult to find them in the vastness of Russia. The pen kit immediately includes a push-type converter (elastic reservoir, with a metal plate), which allows you to draw ink directly from the bottle.The converter works reliably. Among the disadvantages – the reservoir of the converter is opaque and does not allow observing the level of ink remaining in it. But taking into account the fact that the pen writes very economically, one refueling will be enough for you for a week or for a couple of days, depending on the intensity and volume of your letter, and you can forget about this feature of the converter.
Alas. The Pilot 78g is discontinued in Japan and, moreover, is prohibited from being imported into Japan. But due to the fact that it is produced at one of the Pilot factories in Southeast Asia, it is not difficult to buy it at online auctions or in online stores.They sell this wonderful pen for 12-25 US $ + shipping (if bought online). She is definitely worth the money because she looks and writes just great.
Pilot 78g made the most favorable impression on me (and not only on me) in terms of ergonomics and quality of writing and workmanship. You can write with a pen for hours without getting tired. For its price category, it has few competitors.
