Why choose pillar candles?

Pillar candles are large, stable, and long-burning classic candles. Because they are larger than tea lights or votives, they offer longer burn times than small candles can provide. Even our smaller pillar candles offer at least 7 hours of light, while our largest provide an incredible 200 hours. There’s no question that if you want your candles to burn all night long, pillar candles are the way to go.

The size and stability of pillar candles also makes them very versatile. They look great as free-standing lighting, set in a candelabra, inside a lamp or in a hurricane glass. Because they offer a range of heights and diameters, they are excellent for creating eye-catching arrangements and centrepieces. It’s no surprise that pillar candles are an enduring favourite for weddings, churches, and a variety of formal events.

Classic candles with a timeless appeal, pillar candles are perfect for building an elegant atmosphere in any setting.

Caring for Pillar Candles

While pillar candles offer many hours of light, improper use can significantly shorten their lifespan. Below are some useful tips for keeping your pillar candles burning clean and efficient.

  1. Keep the wick trimmed

    • As your candle burns, the wax will melt to expose more of the wick. For best results, always trim the wick to about 1cm before lighting your candle.

Why? Because when too much wick is exposed, the flame will be larger, leading to a shorter burn time. A flame which grows tall enough will also produce smoke and soot – very unpleasant to breathe or clean!

A long wick may also lean to one side, making the wax melt unevenly. This can cause tunnelling or let the melted wax escape, leading to messy drips and a much shorter lifespan.

  2. Don’t light for a short time

    • You should always burn your pillar candle for a minimum of 2-4 hours once lit. The ideal time depends on the size of the candle – if the melted wax reaches almost to the edge of the candle, you’ll know it has been long enough.

If you repeatedly burn your candle for a short time, the level of wax will lower only in the centre of the candle, creating a tunnel around the wick. This wastes a lot of wax, meaning a shorter burn time. It will also lead to the wick being drowned, as melted wax from the tunnel sides fills the centre with liquid.

If you only want candlelight for a short time, consider lighting a smaller candle (like a tea light or votive) instead.

  3. Keep the wax trimmed

    • Under normal conditions, quality pillar candles like ours won’t produce tunnelling. However, some conditions (such as repeated short burns) may cause tunnelling even with top quality candles. If you see tunnelling starting to form, it’s best to trim down the wax around the outer edge. If you ensure that the sides rise no more than 1cm above the base of the wick, you should be able to keep the wick from being drowned.

  4. Clear away debris

    • Small pieces of debris, like a fragment of matchstick or broken piece of wick, can easily wind up in your candle. These can prevent your candle from burning cleanly, and even act as a second wick if they are flammable. This will reduce the life of your candle significantly, so always clear any foreign matter away before you light.

  5. Avoid leaning

    • When burning your pillar candle, keep it in an upright position. Burning at an angle will cause the wax to spill, greatly reducing burn time.

  6. Avoid wind and excessive heat

    • Environmental conditions can also affect the life of your candle. Avoid lighting candles in temperatures above 30°C, as they are likely to melt very fast and lose their shape. Also, try to avoid windy conditions. Even a mild breeze can cause the flame to “lean” in a particular direction, making the wax melt unevenly and create tunnelling or spillage.

With proper usage, you (or your guests) will enjoy many hours of beautiful candlelight from your quality pillar candles.

Pillar Candles ~ Beeswax – rawLight

These Beeswax pillar candles have been developed with premium quality in mind. From dependable burning performance to high-quality construction and professional presentation, these beeswax candles will create an incredible ambiance for any occasion. Made from high-quality blended beeswax, the colour of the wax can vary from a deep brown to a pale yellow depending on what the bees provide. We use gorgeous 100% cotton wicks, which create a superior beautiful light with clean burning.

All burn times advertised are approximate and may vary due to the environmental circumstances in which the product is used for.

rawLight always endeavors to produce items in their correct colourways. Actual finished products and their colourways may differ from sample pictures or from pictures on our website, mobile devices, social media platforms, text messages and so on. What may look like an imperfection is actually the uniqueness of a handmade product.

Beeswax is made by worker bees. It is secreted from glands situated on the underside of the abdomen, and
moulded into the honeycomb that is used as storage space for honey and pollen, and as brood chambers for
larval bees. Bees that build the comb gorge themselves on honey and hang together in clusters or chains
across the area that is to be built up. After about 24 hours, they produce a drop of liquid wax. It soon hardens into a
small white flake, which the bee moves to its mandibles where it is mixed with glandular secretions and chewed. The
softened flake of wax is passed along to another worker who will mould it into shape and place it on the growing
comb. It takes about four minutes to process a single flake from secretion to comb.

The rich colour of beeswax is a result of the floral sources the bees forage on. Beeswax is almost pure white when
first secreted, but gets its colour from the pollen and propolis the bees gather. The natural variations in colour range
from almost white to almost black.

Beekeepers obtain beeswax from the “capping” of the honeycomb – the part of the comb that seals in the honey
collected by the bees Capping’s are sliced off the comb to harvest the honey and are then melted to separate honey
from the wax. About one to two pounds of wax is produced for every hundred pounds of honey.
Conditioning can vary: in pellets (like paraffin), in slabs or as wax sheets, with a flat or honeycomb design.
Select the form you like best or the most adapted to the kind of candle you are planning to make.
Beeswax is often used in combination with paraffin (a traditional proportion is one part beeswax for 3 parts
paraffin), for a container candle formula for instance.
Used alone, beeswax should not be used for any applications that involve a mould (wax and mould would become
instantly inseparable!), unless you choose for latex moulds you can “peel off” the candle once the wax has cooled
off.

Beeswax does not expand and contract according to the temperature as paraffin does, yet another reason not to use
it in a rigid mould (the contraction of paraffin when it cools off helps unmould the finished candle but this behaviour
can become an inconvenience with specific types of candles, like container candles).
Beeswax sheets can be used to create superb candles, easy to make and safe for the young candle makers, when
rolled around a wick, to form a cylindrical or conic taper or pillar.
The melting point of beeswax is situated between 62 and 65°C. This is quite high and can lead to some wicking
problems: sometimes the heat produced but the burning wick is not sufficient to create a full melt pool. Worse, the
flame can even bore a hole in the middle of the candle (also called a “tunnel”) and leave the remains of the candle
intact.

For this reason, and especially when beeswax is used to make a container candle, it is recommended to blend it with
paraffin with a relatively low melt point (125°F is ideal) in order to lower the average melting point. It may prove
necessary to use a wick one size (or two) up. In general, a beeswax candle will require a thicker wick than a paraffin
candle of equal diameter.

More History on Beeswax

  • Beeswax candles were originally used by ancient Romans and Egyptians circa 300bc.
  • Beeswax candles produce negative ions that capture and neutralise dust, cigarette smoke and toxins gently cleansing
    and purifying the air.
  • The honeybee needs to visit millions of flowers, fly thousands of kilometers and ingest approximately 7 Kg of honey
to make 1 Kg of wax.
  • Beeswax candles burn slower than regular wax candles and are virtually smokeless.
  • Beeswax candles are the only candles that help reduce the effects of asthma, hay fever and chemical sensitivities and have been known to benefit people with sleep or concentration disorders.
  • Burning beeswax candles reduces the effects of electrical radiation from computers, television and other
    electrical equipment

The 8 Best Pillar Candles

When you want to add some serious ambience to your home, the best pillar candles will fit in well with your space, featuring a size and color that fits nicely with your decor. Choose a candle with a wick (or wicks) made entirely from natural materials like cotton, which burns more more cleanly than those with wire cores. Since pillar candles are freestanding, they should be made from a harder wax; paraffin wax is widely available and budget-friendly, though if you prefer a more eco-friendly option, long-burning beeswax and clean-burning soy or coconut waxes are also good choices.

When it comes to size, pillar candles can range from around 2 to 6-plus inches in diameter. Heights can vary, too. Consider where you’ll be using the candle — both the room itself and the exact spot you’ll place it — and choose a size accordingly, keeping in mind that you can also place several smaller candles together for a bigger impact. As a general rule, the larger the candle, the longer the burn time will be (though factors like wax type can impact this), so take that into account as well.

Pillar candles are sometimes (but not always) scented. Both types of candles are great for adding warmth and ambience to a space, but scented options will also fill a room with wonderful aromas — it’s up to you to decide what you prefer. Either way, if you would prefer not to actually burn a candle, battery-operated flameless pillar candles may be a better fit, and some even come with added scents.

These eight pillar candles cover a range of colors, sizes, and scents — and some are even sold in multi-packs! However, one thing stands true among them: They’re all favorites on Amazon, with thousands of positive reviews to back them.

1.

A Highly Rated Unscented Candle Set In A Wide Range Of Colors

Whether you’re looking for pillar candles in red, gray, blue, white or something in between, these candles from Melt Candle Company are likely to come in your ideal shade, since they’re available in more than 15 colors. Handmade in Europe, the unscented candles are made from paraffin wax and feature a cotton wick that’ll burn for up to 70 hours. Amazon reviewers confirm that these candles won’t drip or smoke when lit; they give this pick a whopping 4.6-star rating overall, after 3,600 and growing reviews.

Sold in a three-pack, each candle is 3 inches in diameter and 6 inches tall. If you’re in need of a slightly taller option, these candles are also available with an 8-inch height.

Enthusiastic Amazon review: “I was very pleased with every detail of this product. The manufacturers packaging of the product was exceptional and there was absolutely no damage to the candles. The colors are rich and vibrant and I’m very happy they are unscented. I thought they were an exceptional value. I used 7 of these on a center piece of my dining table and 3 were used on a side board in my dining room. I definitely plan on purchasing these in additional colors.”

2.

A Beeswax Pillar Candle With A Long Burn Time

With a burn time up to 153 hours, this candle from Root Candles is worth every penny since you’ll be able to enjoy it for so long. It also smells simply divine, thanks to its tangerine lemongrass scent, though it’s also available in other colors without fragrance. Made from a proprietary beeswax blend with no paraffin waxes to be found, the candle features a textured exterior finish that gives it an artfully rustic vibe. When it comes time to actually light it, the cotton wick shouldn’t give off smoke.

This “Large Pillar” candle is 9 inches tall and 3 inches diameter, but this pick also comes in “Small Pillar” and “Medium Pillar” size options, as well as tapered candles.

Enthusiastic Amazon review: “Quality at a reasonable price. I’ve bought several of these, and each has burned evenly and smelled great without being overwhelming. Also the pattern on the exterior makes this a sightly addition to my living space. Made in the USA!”

3.

A 4-Pack Of Vanilla-Scented Pillar Candles

These pillar candles from Light In The Dark feature a strong vanilla scent that’ll fill the room as soon as you light them. Made from paraffin wax, each of the four candles in the set have a long 90 hour burn time, so you’ll get a lot of bang for your buck. The candles are small in size — they’re 3 inches in diameter and 3 inches tall — so they’ll fit in most spaces, and would look lovely grouped together or on their own.

While neither the manufacturer nor Amazon reviewers suggest what the candle’s wicks might be made from, reviewers seem to have no complaints.

Enthusiastic Amazon review: “These were just the size I needed, and they were hard to find, so I was pleased to find them so [easily] online and the fragrance is lovely.”

4.

A Fan-Favorite Multipack Of Flameless Pillar Candles

If flameless pillar candles are more your thing, this set from Antizer is a fantastic deal — for just about $20, you’ll get your hands on nine candles in a variety of sizes — and Amazon reviewers indicate that they look amazingly realistic. Reviewers give this pick a solid 4.6-star rating overall on the site, among 14,000 and growing reviews.

The unscented candles feature LED lights that can run for up to 50,000 hours and are powered by two AA batteries each (not included). The lights even flicker to mimic a real burning candle. The exterior of the candle is ivory colored and is made from real wax (the specific wax type isn’t disclosed, but this matters less since you won’t actually be burning the candle). This pick also comes with two remote controls — turn the candles on and off in a snap, or even set them on a 2-, 4-, 6-, or 8-hour timer.

This set comes with two 4-inch candles, two 5-inch candles, two 6-inch candles, a 7-inch candle, an 8-inch candle, and a 9-inch candle, all with 2.2-inch diameters. If you don’t need quite as many pillar candles, you can purchase a three-pack instead.

Enthusiastic Amazon review: “I didn’t expect to like these candles so much but I like them so much I ordered 2 more sets!! The wax is realistic, the flame is a soft orangish-yellow and just right and it appears to flicker!! The best part is the remote. You can put them on 2, 4, 6 or 8 hrs (haven’t tried that option yet, they just arrived) but having a remote to turn on/off and adjust the brightness is great. The level of brightness to dim is not huge but enough. Only require 2 AA batteries (not included).”

5.

A Bulk Set Of Small Pillar Candles For Less Than $2 Each

If you’re in need a lot of pillar candles for cheap, this bulk set from Bolsius is calling your name. The set comes with 20 small candles — they’re 2 inches in diameter and 4 inches tall — that feature a neutral ivory color that’ll vibe well with most decor situations. Made from paraffin wax with a cotton wick, the candles will burn cleanly for up to 18 hours, and they’re unscented, dripless, and smokeless.

This pick comes in a variety of other size options (that are all 12-packs), including 2.5 by 3 inches, 2.25 by 4.75 inches, 2.75 by 5 inches, 2.75 by 6.60 inches, and 3 by 6 inches, so surely you’ll find a set that meets your needs.

Enthusiastic Amazon review: “These are the best candles I have ever purchased. They last forever. They are completely smokeless. They are [beautiful]. I love them and would buy them again. They come in a sturdy box with cardboard dividers. You can stack the boxes easily.”

6.

A Soy & Coconut Blend Pillar Candle

Made from a blend of coconut and soy wax and scented with essential-oil based wild orchid and vanilla fragrance, this pillar candle from EcoAroma is the eco-friendly pick of your dreams. Not only does it smell absolutely amazing, it also has a cotton wick, so it’ll burn cleanly for you to fully enjoy.

This candle is 9 inches in height and 3 inches in diameter. While the burn time for this pick isn’t listed, reviewers on Amazon indicate that they’re happy with how long it lasts.

Enthusiastic Amazon review: “The fragrance was very gentle not [too] overwhelming burns slowly. Nice candle”

7.

A Wide 3-Wick Pillar Candle

At 6 by 6 inches in size, this pillar candle from Bolsius is definitely on the wider side to make a big impact in your space. And it even has three cotton wicks for added ambience when lit. But don’t just take my word for it; Amazon reviewers adore this pick, hence the impressive 4.4-star overall rating they give the candle on the site, after more than 600 reviews.

The candle is made from paraffin wax, and it’ll burn for up to 75 hours. It features a nice and neutral ivory color, and it’s unscented.

Enthusiastic Amazon review: “Perfect! I priced numerous large, unscented candles and decided to purchase from this company. My large 6 x 6 candle is beautiful. The candles at the big box stores pale in comparison. The value and design is unsurpassed. You will not be disappointed should you purchase from this company! This will be my go to company for any and all future candle purchases.”

8.

A Flameless Pillar Candle That’s Scented

It’s rare to find a flameless candle that actually gives off a noticeable smell, but that’s certainly the case with this pick from Sterno Home. The honey-colored pillar candle is made from real wax (the manufacturer doesn’t specify which type, but since you won’t actually be burning the candle, it hardly matters) and the exterior has a rustic distressed finish and a melted top design to make it look more like a real candle that you’d burn. The candle’s light will even glow and flicker to add ambience to your space, and it has a scent as well — cinnamon chai — though it’s also available in pomegranate or vanilla cream if you’d prefer. Battery-operated (it runs on 2 AAs, not included), the candle will last up to 1,000 hours on a single set. A built-in timer can automatically turn the candle on for five hours at the same time every day — a truly convenient feature.

This pick is 6 inches tall and 3 inches in diameter, but it’s also sold in a smaller 4 inch height, too.

Enthusiastic Amazon review: “Very nice product, feels and looks like a real candle all the way down to the “wick” looking burnt. Smells nice but not too overpowering like some scented flameless candles. All in all it was a great purchase and adds nice ambiance.”

Candles + Scented Candles For Every Occasion

Know Your Candles – Get Familiar with Various Types of Candle Wax Today!

At Spotlight, customers can purchase many delightful candles for their home. Of course, there are many different types of candles nowadays, most of which are categorised by the type of wax they are made from. To ensure you get the most from your candles, we have created an overview of the most popular candle waxes today. So, be sure to read on if you like to burn candles in your home and want to get the most from them.

What Are Palm Wax Candles?

Customers who are looking for the most durable and long-lasting candles should look for candles made from palm wax. Candles made from palm wax are natural and have an amazing burn time. So, these candles are often recommended for anyone who burns candles daily.

Palm wax candles come with many additional benefits too. They have a much brighter flame than candles made from other types of wax, which could certainly provide some functional lighting during a power outage. Most palm wax candles are a lot more pleasant to be around too, since they are almost smoke and soot free when combined with a quality cotton wick.

Like any type of candle, the palm wax candle has some disadvantages too. Palm wax is a difficult material to work with for manufacturers – this could increase the price of candles made from palm wax. However, when looking at it a little closer, the longer burn time of palm wax candles could even out the higher cost.

What Are Soy Wax Candles?

Customers who are concerned about the toxins that can be present in certain types of candles could consider soy wax candles instead. Candles made from pure soy wax are known to be free of toxins. However, customers should be careful since there are also soy blend candles. These candles are made from a combination of soy wax and other waxes, which means they are not completely free of toxins.

Since most soy wax candles are slow burning, many Australians will love to have one of these candles in their home. There are even scented versions, although these fragranced soy wax candles may not appeal to everyone. Their scent is not as strong as most other waxes, but they are more environmentally-friendly. So, pure soy wax candles with a fragrance will appeal most to eco-friendly customers.

What Are Beeswax Candles?

Another type of wax you may encounter in candles is beeswax. Much like palm wax candles, beeswax candles burn clean – this means less mess and hassle for consumers. Beeswax candles also have a natural honey scent, so no additional scents must be added to get a scented candle made from beeswax.

Beeswax candles are made from natural honeybee wax, a material that is not that convenient to obtain for manufacturers. Therefore, beeswax candles will be a little more expensive than the average candle found in stores. Still, if you are willing to pay extra, you will have a fragranced candle that is almost drip-free!

What Are Blended Paraffin Candles?

Blended paraffin candles are usually the types of candles we are most familiar with, since they are the ones that are most widely available. Candles made from blended paraffin are quite affordable and contain certain additives that may improve their burn rate. They are made to withstand both cold and hot weather, making them suitable to use in any climate.

Even though blended paraffin candles are the most affordable types of candles, they can have some disadvantages for people with certain allergies. Blended paraffin candles can release air pollutants, which in turn can cause allergic reactions in certain individuals. So, blended paraffin candles are only suitable for households where sensitivity to such compounds is not an issue.

What Are Mineral Oil Candles?

Customers who suffer from certain allergies could consider mineral oil candles as an alternative to blended paraffin candles. Mineral oil candles deliver less soot and have a higher melting point. They also have a clean and consistent burn, making it less likely to cause allergic reactions.

Candles made from mineral oil can provide additional benefits for customers who are fond of scented candles. Contrary to blended paraffin candles, mineral oil candles can hold onto a lot more fragrance. So, if you are looking for some of the best scented candles, be sure to check stores for candles made from mineral oil.

What Other Candles Could I Obtain?

The various types of candles we mentioned above are the most common types of candles available today. There are many other candle types you could consider – this includes gel candles and bayberry candles. So, if you cannot find a candle to fit your specific needs, you can check out the additional candle types available today.

Came from the other world and a scandal?

Chanukah preface. Our rubric of spiritual traditions and values continues to publish the most interesting testimonies about the stay of different people in another world. Today Australia is on the wire. In general, Australia is a place where many things boggle the imagination. And Hanukkah candles (by the way, we have Hanukkah, if anyone does not know!) When crossing the Equator is not so easy to light, because you either lose one day, or jump straight into tomorrow.Knowing exactly how many candles to light is a requirement of Jewish law. Hence the conclusion – not to cross the equator on the days of Hanukkah. Otherwise, you will try to light the menorah on the plane, and the staff will not approve of you!

The first Hanukkah was met by Japan, New Zealand, Australia, Antarctica – and then the rest of the globe. Ignition in public places is carried out using a crane near significant buildings, in the main squares. The right to light Shamash’s candle is often given to a non-Jew – to the mayor of the city, and so on.A holy candle is already lit from it (according to the number of days, in ascending order from one to eight).

Children these days – fun and expanse. And if the coronavirus still shuffles the cards in the world in its own way, then everyone in their homes will celebrate Hanukkah, because this is such a purely home holiday: the family sits in the evening by the fireplace, on the carpet, turns the Hanukkah top, dreidel, eats donuts with jam and latkes (potato pancakes), and in Israel there is also sphinji with hummus, watching the Maccabits performance, and the whole world is concentrated in this small cozy living room …
And sometimes it is even pleasant to tell all sorts of horror stories at night …

Once upon a time in Australia …

Description of the experiment Rene Hope

I want to tell you about one of the most significant events in my life.I will begin my story with the events that preceded it.

Location: 02/24/82, Sydney, Australia, 6:00 pm. I’m leaving work. I worked for an optical instrument repair company. I am driving home to Raymond Terrace (a city north of Newcastle, New South Wales). I was driving. My partner Mike sat next to me, and my friend Steve, who worked for us part-time, sat in the back seat. After three months of drought, it started raining. I was driving along an industrial highway and pulled up to stop at an intersection.I don’t remember anything else.

According to Mike, it was like this. When we approached the traffic light, the green light was already shining for us. When we reached the intersection, the car skidded. We drove at a speed of 43 km / h. We drove into a power pole, which was at the exit from the intersection. Steve, like a rocket, took off from where he sat. It hit my head, and from the impact I fell on the steering wheel.

Medical report: Steve broke his fourth lumbar vertebra and now suffers from paralysis of the lower limbs. As a result of the accident, I received fractures throughout my body, including the frontal part, in the right eye socket, in the zygomatic bone, and 6 holes in the dura mater. The steering wheel broke, and its fragments, together with the instruments located on the control panel, stuck into my body. They pierced my throat and into the right side of my chest. Mike escaped with a minor injury thanks to the seat belt …

Doctors and parents
My mother said the following: in the afternoon of 02/25/82 they were in the office of a professor of neurosurgery. The professor announced my death and added that they should not be upset that I died, since if I had stayed to live, I would have been a plant, not a person. At this time, a young and very frightened nurse ran into the office and said: “She is alive! She is sitting and talking!” The professor three times repeated to the nurse that she was interfering with his work, and since this did not help, he himself took the nurse out of the office and read her a notation about the “dead” who move and make sounds. But the nurse insisted on her own: “She sat down and began to scandal:” I don’t need to give drugs anymore! “And at that moment my mother and father grabbed the professor by the arms and rushed to me with him. They found me lying where the nurse had left me before the medical equipment was removed from me. They were about to send me to the morgue. I was in a deep coma and breathing. I was in a coma for 10 days.

While I was not in this world …
I do not know how I got to another world. I don’t remember how I died and I don’t remember leaving my body. I moved head first through some kind of whirlpool of black boiling clouds, feeling that I was being thrown from side to side.It scared me. Ahead of me was a bright glowing and constantly growing point, and the closer I got to it, the larger and brighter it became. I began to realize that I must have died, and I was very worried about my parents and sister. I was upset, but then I thought that my family “will soon get over it.” This thought flew through my mind very quickly, and I was already running forward to meet the light.

I got into a source of beautiful light, which was in a room with unreal walls. Before me stood a man, about 30 years old, about 6 feet tall. He had shoulder-length auburn hair and an incredibly neat short beard and mustache. He was dressed in a simple white suit. The light seemed to come directly from him, and I felt that he was wise and very old. He greeted me with great Love, calmness, Peace (indescribable), without saying a word. I thought, “I can sit at his feet forever and be happy with everything.” I was fascinated by the fabric of his clothes, and I tried to understand how such a fabric could be woven.

Viewing life
He stood behind me and directed my gaze to my left. There I saw pictures of not the most significant moments of my life. I relived those moments and felt not only what I was doing, but also the pain that I caused to my environment. I would not have thought that some of my actions could cause so much pain to others. It surprised me that some of my actions, such as stealing chocolate bars in childhood in the store, were not shown to me, although I had a sense of guilt for these actions. But at the same time, the casual remarks I made caused such harm that I did not even know about. And when I felt enough guilt for my actions, I was shown other moments in life in which I gave people love and joy. Despite the fact that I felt very depressed and confused, it seemed that the ratio was in my favor. And I received tremendous Love.

Then I went deeper into the room, which was transformed into a hall.

Grandfather and his prediction
And my grandfather was walking towards me.He looked younger than I remembered him. He did not have a cleft lip or other previously inherent defects, but it was undoubtedly my grandfather. We hugged each other. Grandpa greeted me. Until that moment, I did not realize how much I was angry with him for the fact that he died when I was 14 years old. I then promised him that when I grow up, I will definitely become a doctor and find a way to heal his aching heart, but I did not keep my promise. And I just now forgave him for the fact that he died.

Grandfather said that my grandmother would come to him soon and that he was looking forward to her. I asked why he was sure that she would come soon if she had other plans, because every year and for many years in a row she moved for the summer from Manchester to Miami. My grandfather told me that my grandmother had bowel cancer, and she would soon come to him … It came true (my grandmother was diagnosed 3 months later, Earth time …) After my grandfather and I talked, he took me deeper into the room, which again became a hall where a group of people stood.I recognized these people.

The one who first greeted me came up to me, put his hand on my shoulder, and turned me to face him. He said: “You must return, you must complete the task.” I wanted to object, I wanted to stay, I looked at my grandfather, and suddenly I was quickly carried to the exit, everything went dark on the threshold. I didn’t feel anything and didn’t understand anything.
What happened next … I came out of a coma for a very long time, several days. As if half asleep, I heard familiar voices and saw faces. The clearest moments of this period are the sight of a nurse with a syringe who stood next to me whenever I woke up. I categorically refused to take drugs, I myself do not know why! “She came from the other world and is still a scandal!” the nurse snorted.

I underwent three series of plastic surgeries on my face, head and eye socket. I was discharged from the hospital with terrible pain, I felt sick, I could not keep my balance. For the next two years, I was angry with my grandfather for bringing me back to this life, where I have to experience terrible pain and torment. He said that I must fulfill my destiny, but at the same time he did not explain what exactly and how I must do. The only thing he said: “Now you must live only by your convictions, you must put your House in order, since the End is nearing!” But how and what to do – I also did not understand. This cannot be my task, I did not hear a voice from above.

I was also not sure who was the gatekeeper at the gates to that world, he had no identification marks, he did not introduce himself! It took me five years to stop being a zombie and rehabilitate myself.I found a decent job, founded the Society of New Zealand for People with Head Injuries in 1987, and am an example of how you can recover from brain damage. I still don’t know what I have to do, I am in pain.

That’s all, but I have to say that the memories of the near-death experiences I experienced feel more real to me than what I did yesterday.

Dear readers! In the next issue we will see a description of the near-death experience of the leading Kabbalist Rabbi Chaim Vital of the 16th century, which also happened in … Hanukkah! He emerged from this test with honor, conquered the blues and melancholy and lived a very long and dignified life!

Wait for our new releases!

Happy Hanukkah!

90,000 Sovereign Hill, where we got the gold rush

We recently visited an Australian gold rush town. Honestly, I heard about the gold rush in California, but I did not know about Australia. It turns out that the gold rush hit Australia a couple of years later than California, and Ballarat produced the purest gold in the world. We, too, were able to participate in the process of flushing the gold, and we even found a few grains that we took with us.

Zolotishko

Ballatar is located very close to Melbourne, and, despite the fact that this city is not at all small and very pretty, the main attraction of Ballarat is Sovereign Hill – a restored copy of the town of the 1850-60s, when in search of gold here from all over light hunters sailed for easy prey.

Timber buildings Sovereign Hill

Many lived more than modestly

Inside the miner’s house

The smell in the city also corresponds to that time, thanks to the horses 🙂

On city streets

“Inhabitants” of the city

The restaurant has delicious scones with whipped cream and jam!

Of course, in reality it turned out that it was practically impossible to get rich by flushing gold or mining quartz, and the money obtained would be enough only for the most modest existence. And the wealthiest people in the cities that grew up around the mining sites turned out to be people who owned businesses that supported the existence of the city itself. Bankers, owners of bars and saloons, pharmacies and bakeries, candle and soap makers, blacksmiths and carpenters. Each gold digger had to buy goods from these people, spending their earnings on basic necessities at non-divine prices.

A small show on the streets of the city

We go into the shop to the undertaker. It was a profitable business at the time!

It is not customary to save money at funerals 🙂

A small river flows through the city, along which gold miners sat from morning till evening, looking for crumbs sparkling in the sun.And later, in addition to this method, gold mining from quartz was added. For this, mines up to 1 km deep were drilled on the territory of the city, where sometimes very decent pieces of gold were also found. It was also mined by grinding quartz into sand and leaching gold with mercury. All this was done on a huge colossus that occupied a whole separate building. It still stands there to this day, but not just stands, but works! True, mercury is no longer used, or they do it somehow more safely.

River where gold was mined

Gold hunters from all over the world flocked to Sovereign Hill.We sailed on ships to Melbourne. Many sold all their possessions just to get to Ballarat. Then they went on foot and from hand to mouth. All in the hope of finding a decent gold bar and living comfortably for the rest of their lives. Some, by the way, were lucky and they just found the ingots, which are now estimated at several hundred thousand dollars. However, not everyone was lucky. And life was far from sugar.

By the way, the Chinese lived the best. They came to Ballarat in whole groups – several earners and a team serving them: a cook, a laundress (a man, of course), a cleaner and others. So, Chinese earners could work longer, knowing that a hot dinner and a clean bed were already waiting for them at home. For this, the rest of the townspeople disliked them, trying to establish additional taxes and licenses for foreign gold mining for foreigners.

The main street of the city. Before the influx of tourists 🙂

You can ride a carriage, but for an additional fee

Also, for a fee, you can take a picture in the photo studio of that time in the outfits of those times. People are put in typical poses, and the photographs are black and white, so it turns out very believable!

Posters from a local print shop. You can also order any text there and print it on the printing press of that time

The town consists of literally three streets, but they are completely built up with functioning buildings. There is a pharmacy where an elderly lady works in a cap and a white apron over a dark fluffy dress. It sells herbal teas, natural soaps, bath salts and other “medicinal” stuff. There is a small bakery next to the pharmacy where you can buy a variety of pastries. The girl who works there is also dressed appropriately for the time.Everyone is very polite and welcoming.

At a candle factory, girls in vintage work dresses make handmade candles. You can see and ask about the process, or you can participate yourself. Candles are also sold there. We had few visitors, but sometimes there are several thousand tourists a day. Then the candles are quickly sold out.

Supermarket of that time

Everything can be bought. True, the prices are already modern 🙂

Souvenirs for every taste

Clothing and accessories store

Book with recipes from that time

All sorts of bells and whistles in the store.Everything can be bought.

Just choose!

There is a small candy factory where you can make candies yourself. On our visit, unfortunately, she was under renovation, so the children were especially upset. But we bought ready-made sweets in the shop anyway.

There is also a bank with the current gold rate, a saloon, a clothing and household goods store, a smithy, a carpentry workshop and other necessary shops. You can visit each of them in the workshop, see how they work, chat about life, or ask for some historical details. And you can buy what they manually produce.

Blacksmith at work

Workshop where iron and copper products are made. What is it called ?!

Joiner’s shop

And this guy melts real gold and casts it into an ingot worth $ 600.000

And there is also a real bowling alley with wooden lanes, pins and balls, although the lanes are half the length of the original ones, but still very long. You can also play and there is even a separate track for children.True, you have to set the pins yourself. They say that earners loved to relax in bowling with an alcoholic drink in a glass. The women, of course, were not even allowed to go there. Women at that time could not do any business at all.

Children play bowling

But at least they took girls to school. By the way, we also dropped by the school. The teacher there is terribly strict (all for fun, of course) – first he put us on the columns, then sat us at the desks. One had to sit with folded hands in front of oneself, and address the teacher with the prefix “Sir”.At the end of the lesson, we took the exam – we had to write our name and today’s date in a beautiful script. But the most difficult thing was that all this had to be done with a fountain pen, dipping it into an inkwell on the desk. At the end, the teacher gave grades quite mercilessly. Many Australian adults wrote absolutely awful, but they gave me an A. – thanks to our Russian school!

Children are also trying to write beautifully and without blots

The Sovereign Hill ticket is valid for two days. We did not manage in one day, although we came to the opening (10 am), and left after 3 pm.The town is small, but while you go to each shopkeeper, chat, see what is for sale there, so time flies by. And even every half hour something happens – sometimes they shoot from muskets, sometimes they make candles, sometimes they have a master class at the blacksmith’s. And there is also a “museum of gold” included and you can go to paid shows. In general, if with children, then two days can be safely set aside, but you can run around everything in one day.

It is not difficult to find gold in this river, because fine gold filings from the jewelry production are thrown into it.It’s a trifle, but it’s nice to find a gold grain with your own hands.

Streets of Sovereign Hill

The atmosphere is such that soon you begin to believe that you are in the past

Guardian of the order of the time

These comrades also fired muskets. It’s very loud!

I really liked Sovereign Hill, despite the price of the admission ticket (they paid 136 Australian dollars for the family), not counting the paid tour to the mine and the buns eaten from the bakery :).

And we haven’t gone to the evening show “Blood on the Southern Cross” yet. The show is the story of how the miners got together and staged a small revolution against the officials who forced the miners to buy an expensive license to mine gold. The miners burned down the hotel, but in the morning the uprising was suppressed and the rioters were arrested. But soon they were all acquitted in court and their demands were accepted. For Australians, this story is significant as the beginning of democracy in Australia.

We stayed right next to Sovereign Hill – in the caravan park from which we walked to this museum.Very comfortably! We lived there in a tent, but you can stay in a cottage as well. The camp site has a swimming pool, jacuzzi, a huge trampoline for children, a playground, a gorgeous kitchen and a pleasant green area.

Candle Care:

1. Always store your candles in a cool, dark and dry place. The cone or supper candle should be stored on a flat surface to prevent warping.

2. You can remove dust and fingerprints from the candle by gently rubbing the surface with a piece of nylon or soft cloth. The fabric can be dried or slightly dampened with water.

3. Drops of wax can be removed from most candlesticks by wiping with hot water. Some home care professionals prefer to remove the wax by placing the candlestick in the freezer for an hour or so. This allows the wax to shrink and pop out easily when the candlestick is removed from the freezer.
