Here are 5 Steps to Clear Skin for Guys:

Wash Your Face

Wash your face twice a day. Once when you wake up and once before you go to sleep. Get a good facial cleanser that gently scrubs away the dirt and oils from the skin.

You don’t want to get an aggressive scrub or exfoliator for this. The face wash should be a gentle one that is smooth and might even have a cooling feel to it.

You won’t regret using this facial cleanser to clear up your skin:When you rub the cleanser on your face, be super gentle and rub in circular motions. Rubbing to hard can increase redness and make your face too dry after.

Remembering this step is crucial to your skin care. Always moisturize after washing your face. This is going to prevent it from getting dry and red.

If your face gets dry, it’s going to make your face produce even more oils which is not what you want. This is by far the best moisturizer I’ve ever tried:

The moisturizer is what tricks your face into thinking it’s already oiled and doesn’t need any extra lubrication. Extra oils can clog your pores and give you acne, so moisturize after you wash every time.

An exfoliator is necessary to get a deeper clean once in a while. Only use an exfoliator twice a week.

It is going to remove the dead skin from your face and some extra dirt and oil that a normal cleanser can’t remove.

Using an exfoliator is easier when you are completely shaved, so try and do it then. It should only be done twice a week because it is more aggressive and is not healthy for your skin if you do it too often. Make sure you apply moisturizer after this one too.

Water has so many health benefits and especially for your skin. Drinking a lot of water will flush out the bacteria and toxins in your body that lead to dirty, oily skin. Lack of water will also lead to acne.

Think of water as your face wash from the inside of your body. It is getting rid of the bad stuff from the other side of your skin.

Another benefit water gives to the face is hydration. Water hydrates the face so it isn’t getting dry quickly and over producing oil.

Eat Clean

Staying on a clean diet will help prevent any acne and extra oil build up. Eating junk foods that are high in fats and oils will give your face the same thing.

It is very common that diet is what affects acne or poor skin. A clean diet will make it easier on your body to process fats and oils throughout.

Missing just one day can mess up your face for that whole week. Stay on track and make it a habit to take care of your face properly and consistently.

Follow these steps and you will be on your way to having the clearest face you’ve always wanted!

Stryx | The Best Men’s Skincare Routine

A new year means it’s time for a new skincare routine for men.

If you’ve noticed your skin looking a little dry or has a few more pimples than you’d like, then it’s high time you start being proactive with your skin care routine, especially if you’re a man.

Far too many men have minimal or non-existent skincare processes, so make this the year where you finally start taking control of what your skin looks like.

The version of you 10 years from now will thank you for it.

What is a Skincare Routine?

A skincare routine is a series of steps used to make sure your skin is healthy and looking its best.

This might sound a little daunting and overcomplicated. However, it’s pretty simple. Think of it like taking a shower.

Your daily shower routine might consist of you using shampoo, then conditioner, and then some body wash. That’s a routine!

The only difference is that a men’s skincare routine might have a few more steps to follow.

Here at Stryx, we want to develop a skin care routine for men that covers every possible problem you might face with your skin.

Whether it’s acne, clogged pores, or blackheads, our ultimate male skincare routine will make sure that everything is covered!

Why Men Should Have a Daily Skincare Routine

Credit: GQ

Men should develop a skin care routine because healthy skin is one of the easiest ways to look your best.

All it takes is a few minutes everyday and before you know it, you’ll feel more confident in your own skin.

Even something as simple as washing your face everyday and using a moisturizer will show great results.

However, one of the biggest reasons we love using a skincare routine is because it prevents those dreaded acne breakouts.

No one likes waking up and seeing acne in the morning. That’s why it’s important to use skincare products that replenish your skin consistently.

The Ultimate Male Skincare Routine

Our ultimate skin care routine for men has six steps. This might seem a little daunting, but each step only takes about thirty seconds.

In total, you’ll only need three to five minutes of your time to go through this routine.

Are you ready? Let’s get started!

Step One: Wash Dirt and Oil Away With a Cleanser

It’s vital for men to cleanse their faces regularly.

By and large, men’s skin tends to be oilier than that of women due to the increased presence of sebaceous glands.

Additionally, these glands tend to be larger in men, resulting in enhanced production of oil.

When Should Men Cleanse Their Face?

Ideally, you should wash your face twice a day, once in the morning and once at night.

Any more than that and you risk drying your skin out too significantly.

The only exception should be if you sweat substantially throughout the day and need to remove sweat and oil more often.

How Do Men Cleanse Their Face?

The American Academy of Dermatology Association recommends using a non-abrasive cleanser to remove impurities.

For best results, you can try using Stryx’s Gel Cleanser twice daily.

Before you do anything, you should gently apply lukewarm water to the face. Next, use your fingers to apply your cleanser.

Follow the directions and rinse the cleanser off your face with lukewarm water.

Step Two: Exfoliate Your Skin With a Face Scrub

Exfoliation is the process of removing dead skin cells from the skin.

Under ideal circumstances, your skin’s able to get rid of the cells on its own, but sometimes, it doesn’t shed completely.

To be able to exfoliate properly, you’re going to need to invest in a face scrub.

How Often Should Men Use a Face Scrub?

Most men will find they only need to use a face scrub once or twice a week.

However, if your skin is particularly oily, then you may need to exacerbate the regimen and use the device three times a week.

You shouldn’t use it any more often or else you run the risk of over-drying your skin.

How Do Men Use a Face Scrub?

You should exfoliate your skin after you’ve cleaned it using the above steps.

After that, gently apply the facial scrub to your skin with gentle massage motions.

Important note: Men with beards should spend a little extra time applying the scrub.

You want to make sure the substance is able to bypass your facial hair and actually help the skin. After you do this, you can wash the scrub off using lukewarm water.

Here’s an affordable and high-quality men’s face scrub we like to use from our friends over at Vitaman

Step Three: Apply Serum to Replenish Nutrients

Credit: Skincraft

Be honest with yourself — Do you really feel as though you look your age?

Due to some people’s genetic makeup, they begin to age faster than others.

Fine lines and crow’s feet can make you look years older than you actually are, but you can help reverse the aging process (to an extent) with the right serum.

How Often Should I Apply a Serum?

A facial serum should be applied twice daily. You should put it over your face in the morning and in the evening to help replenish nutrients you end up losing over the course of the day.

How Much Serum Do I Need?

Facial serums are incredibly potent. You don’t need a lot to reap the benefits, and most experts agree you can get by with merely applying a pea-sized drop to your face and neck for each use.

Step Four: Hydrate Your Skin With a Moisturizer

You should know the importance of drinking enough water in the day.

Drinking the recommended eight glasses of day can do a lot of good for helping your skin. But, if you need an extra boost, then consider adding a moisturizer to your regimen.

This is by far one of the best things you can do and one of the most important steps in our skincare routine for men.

When Should Men Use a Moisturizer?

You should apply a moisturizer after every time you wash your face, which means twice daily.

Keeping up with this process regularly helps protect your skin from environmental harm.

How Should Men Use a Moisturizer?

You should apply the moisturizer while your skin is still damp. This way the product traps moisture in the skin to keep it hydrated.

It’s also a good idea to moisturize after every time you wash your hands.

While a lot of men focus on their facial skin’s health, it’s just as important to pay attention to other parts of your body as well.

Additionally, your hands are more likely to be exposed to irritants than your face, and they could use the extra protection.

Step Five: Conceal Pre-Existing Acne With a Concealer

No one wants to deal with pimples. While the blemishes are often associated with teenagers, they can absolutely follow you into adulthood. When they pop up, you need to be able to treat them accordingly.

When Should Men Put a Concealer On?

You only need to apply concealer when you have an active pimple present. In relation to your skincare regimen, concealer should be the last thing to apply. After you put moisturizer on your skin, you should wait about 10 minutes before using your concealer tool.

Step Six: Prevent Skin from Aging With an SPF Sunscreen

Facial scrubs and moisturizers are great for keeping your skin in tip-top shape, but you need to think about all the ways you’re inadvertently hurting your skin as well.

With a little foresight, you can take a big step in holding back the aging process.

Some parts of our men’s skincare routine are pretty flexible. For example, you can use a face scrub only once or twice a week.

For sunscreen, we make sure to put it on everyday before we go out. This is non-negotiable for us.

Whenever you’re out under the sun, sunscreen helps protect your skin’s melanin.

Without sunscreen, the ultra-violet rays can burn your skin’s outermost layer, causing discoloration and premature aging.

When is the Best Time to Use Sunscreen?

You need to apply sunscreen 30 minutes before getting any sunlight exposure. This gives the substance ample time to absorb into the skin to protect it.

A lot of people only think to apply sunscreen when it’s hot out in the summertime. But even if it feels cool outside, the sun is still out there, and all it takes is 15 minutes to result in damage.

Does Skin Type Affect Skincare Routine?

No skin is the same. Our skin can be affected by our environment, genetics, and past management.

Skin can be pretty much be put into four categories: dry skin, oily skin, sensitive skin, and natural skin.

However, skin type doesn’t affect our skincare routine for men too much since we’ve made sure to add products that cover every problem you might face.

All you’ll need to do is make sure that you adjust the amounts used based on your skin type.

Dry Skin

For dry skin, you’ll want to make sure that you use a little more moisturizer. Since your skin tends to dry up faster, adding more moisturizer to your routine will go a long way.

Oily Skin

Oily skin can be fixed by adjusting step number one. Use more cleanser to wash away the extra oil that your skin produces. After that, you’ll be set!

Sensitive Skin

Sensitive skin can be a little trickier. However, none of the above steps should cause a breakout unless you wear acne concealer to bed.

If you’re still worried, we recommend using each product in moderation except the sunscreen. Then, once your skin has become used to the product, you should be good to go!

Natural Skin

Natural skin is the easiest because all you need to do is follow all six steps everyday and your skin will thank you.

Since your skin isn’t too oily or too dry, all you’ll need to do is use the normal amounts for each product. Afterwards, you should see results that you’ll like.

How Expensive is a Daily Men’s Skin Care Routine?

Some people might not want to have men’s skincare routine because they think it will get expensive.

We’re not going to lie. Men’s skin care products can be a little pricey sometimes, but great skin is one of the key components for helping you feel more confident about yourself.

A great male skincare routine helps you achieve this.

Therefore, even if there are some costs associated with men’s facial care, the pros definitely outweigh the cons.

Ultimately, the expense is probably a lot lower than you’re thinking. And higher price tags don’t necessarily correlate to better products.

A Daily Men’s Skin Care Routine You’ll Actually Follow · Effortless Gent

Looking for a solid men’s skin care routine you can use every day? If you don’t already have one, you’re missing out!

The good news is, you’re never too old or too young to start one. And today, we’re gonna outline a solid skin care routine that’s super easy to follow.

We designed this one specifically for men. We’re trying to keep it simple so you stick with it. And there’s nothing vain or feminine about it—a guy with a solid, energized face gets noticed.

Take the complexity out of skin care with this guide to skin types, the best products to use, and exactly when and how to use the specific skin care products.

Stick around til the end; there’s a handy infographic at the bottom you can use and save as a reference guide.

A daily skin care routine will prevent future issues

A lot of guys think skin care is only necessary when they have a specific issue—acne, redness, wrinkles, or other typical skin care concerns. While certain men’s skin care products can help with isolated issues, a daily skin care routine will prevent them in the first place.

Your skin is your largest organ; like any other part of your body, it needs daily preventative measures to keep it healthy. This is no different than weight lifting, cardio, and eating right to keep your body in shape.

A daily skin care routine will benefit you now by keeping skin firm, clear, and bright. Things just get better years from now, when everyone else is starting to wrinkle and you’re not.

Learn Your Skin Type

Most guys don’t know their skin type. Frankly, many guys don’t even realize skin has “types”. Learning your skin type is the first step in taking care of your skin (and is pretty easy too).

Which of these five basic skin types most resembles you?

  • Normal: Your skin stays oil free most of the day and doesn’t get irritated or dry easily. Acne is rarely an issue.
  • Oily Skin: Your skin has oily patches and a natural shine to it. You often get acne or build up.
  • Dry/Sensitive Skin: Your skin gets easily irritated all over and frequently feels tight or dry.
  • Combination: Imagine your face has a “T” on it. The horizontal bar goes across your forehead – the vertical bar runs down to the tip of your nose. This is called the T zone. Guys who have combination skin have an oily T zone but dry/sensitive skin on the rest of their face (primarily the cheeks).
  • Aging Skin: Your skin looks weathered, is wrinkled, and has age spots. You have spent many years not taking care of your skin.

Once you know your skin type, things get a lot easier. Use men’s skin care products that match your skin type as you follow the skin care routine detailed below. Most product packaging indicates the skin type it’s been made for.

1. Cleanse your skin

When should I wash my face?

Short answer: both morning and night.

Every morning, wash your face with a men’s facial cleanser that is made for your skin type. Cleansing first thing in the morning refreshes you by removing dull skin and impurities.

Before you go to bed, wash your face to prevent oil and other pore-clogging bacteria from sitting on your face all night.

How should I wash my face?

Wash your face in the shower or splash warm water over your face before washing. This opens up the pores and helps remove any deep-down impurities.

As you apply the face wash, gently rub in circles. Don’t rub vigorously – facial skin is very sensitive.

When you’re done, rinse with cool water to close the pores and then pat dry. Never rub your face dry – stretching the skin can introduce premature wrinkles.

After washing, your face should feel clean, but not too clean or tight. Tightness is a sign of excessively dry skin – which can cause irritation, acne, premature wrinkles, and excess oil production.

Never wash your face with bar soap. No matter what type of soap you use, natural or generic, the ingredients are too harsh for the face.

You wouldn’t put diesel in a gasoline fuel tank, would you? So why use the wrong product and cause undue harm to one of your biggest assets, your face?

Washing your face more than twice a day is completely unnecessary. We’re talking to you, guys with oily skin. Over-washing sets your sebum glands (the skin’s oil glands) go into overdrive, creating excess oil.

A Note about Toner

Some guys may ask why we didn’t suggest using toner post-wash. The fact is, most men don’t need toner.

Toner adjusts your skin’s pH balance post-cleanse. However, your skin naturally readjusts your pH balance. If you use an appropriate face wash for your skin type, a toner is really unnecessary.

2. Using a face scrub

When should I use a scrub, and how often?

Scrubbing (exfoliating) your face should be done 1 – 3 times a week after cleansing your face, depending on your skin type. Guys with oily-type skin should exfoliate more often, while men with sensitive/dry skin should do it less often.

A men’s face scrub is an extremely versatile product – not only is it important to a skin care regimen, but it’s the secret weapon you’ve been missing in your shave routine too.

Exfoliating removes dead skin cells and other build up on your skin. That helps new, healthier skin cells reveal themselves, improving your complexion.

Guys with oily skin probably don’t need to be told this, but the less build-up on your skin, the fewer clogged pores and breakouts you’ll have.

Before a shave, scrub the shave area. This discourages ingrown hairs and bumps. Not enough men take the time to prepare their skin before shaving.

You want your facial hair to be protruding as high above the skin as possible, allowing for a cleaner cut and preventing it from growing back into the skin. A men’s face scrub will do this.

How do I use a face scrub?

Using a face scrub is a lot like using a face wash. Wet your face beforehand with warm water and use a small amount of scrub, gently rubbing in circles around your entire face (or shave area).

Focus on areas where dead skin and build up primarily occur – the nose, forehead, and neck. When done, rinse with cool water and pat your face dry.

Never use a scrub more than three times a week and only once a day. Guys have a tendency to go overboard with face scrub because it “feels like something is happening” when using it.

Take it easy – overusing a scrub can cause dryness, irritation, and excess oil production.

3. Hydrate your skin

When should I moisturize?

Again, both morning and night.

Hydrating the face, or moisturizing, is nothing more than applying a men’s face moisturizer to your skin.

Moisturizing offers a plethora of benefits: it makes the skin firmer, prevents water loss, and has an anti-aging effect.

As you age (even in your early 20s), your skin’s cells can’t hold as much moisture as they used to… mostly because your body produces steadily fewer skin proteins (collagen).

Moisturizing delivers hydration and essential nutrients to skin cells so they can continue to look full, delivering a youthful, healthy face.

How should I use face moisturizer?

After washing or scrubbing your face and thoroughly patting dry, apply a men’s face moisturizer over your entire face. Take special care to hydrate around the forehead and eyes.

You only need a little bit of product and there’s no need to vigorously rub it in. If you have dry skin, you may need to reapply a small amount again in the afternoon. Guys with oily skin – don’t skip the hydration step.

Using just a small amount of face moisturizer every day will keep oil in check and reduce blemishes.

4. Prevent Skin from Aging

When should I apply sunscreen?

It doesn’t hurt to apply SPF (a good moisturizer will have SPF in it) both morning and night… but especially in the morning.

What’s the easiest way to have great looking skin your entire life? Prevention. Unfortunately, most guys think of their skin last when it comes to overall physical health.

Preventing skin issues starts with protecting yourself from the sun and fighting off the aging process.

How do I prevent skin aging?

Use sunscreen with SPF: If you will be in the sun for longer than 30 minutes, use sunscreen on all exposed parts of your skin. Nothing will age and damage your skin faster than the sun. Make sure to use sunscreen that has at least SPF 15.

Most sunscreens—even “natural” versions—are made with some pretty suspect chemicals and ingredients. When coming inside for the day, it’s best to wash the sunscreen off.

Apply Eye Cream: Like to stay up late? Often have dark circles or bags under your eyes? Men’s eye cream is your secret weapon for looking good.

Bags and dark circles accumulate around the eyes when you don’t get enough sleep.

Normally, blood and other fluids move into your head as you sleep. If you don’t give them time to do that, those fluids push up against the skin. The result? Puffiness and dark circles.

Eye cream ingredients stimulate the area around the eyes, reducing puffiness and fluid build-up. The best eye creams for men contain caffeine; it’s an incredible stimulant that drains blood back into the body.

Use Anti-Aging Cream: We recommend using a men’s face moisturizer every night before you go to bed. But if you’re worried about wrinkles and fine lines, you should use a men’s anti-aging cream.

Why use it at night? Your body repairs itself as you sleep, so applying anti-aging cream at this time works with the body’s natural restorative process.

Hesitant to let the world know you care about aging? No worries—using an anti-aging cream at night keeps it between just you and your pillows.

Stick With This Skin Care Routine, Men!

Skin care doesn’t need to be complicated. With as little as three products, you can have a robust and effective skin care routine.

To recap, here’s the simple skin care routine:

  1. Wash your face with a cleanser (occasionally, use a face scrub instead)
  2. Dry your face
  3. Apply facial moisturizer (ideally with SPF)

The other stuff—toner, eye cream, anti-aging cream—is also important and worth doing, but if nothing else, these are the three basic steps you want to follow.

The key is consistency.

To help you more easily digest this routine, we’ve created a handy infographic for your viewing pleasure.

Best Oily Skin Routine For Men – Cardon

Face feeling greasy? Here are 3 steps for a simple skincare routine for oily skin.

Most men have oily skin type, so you’re not alone. Contrary to what you might think, face oil is actually a good thing. We need that oil, or sebum, to help nourish and moisturize both skin and hair. However, having too much of it can lead to clogged pores, pesky breakouts, or feeling like you have a greasy film over your face.

This inconvenience is aggravated by using the wrong skincare products or using the right products wrongly. (No, a bar of soap doesn’t cut it). Regardless of why your skin gets excessively oily, we’re here to help you take matters in your own hands.

Here‘s an easy oily skin routine for men to prevent excessive oil production and the best products to transform your forehead shine to a natural, healthy glow.

▶ Shop: Simple Skincare Set for Oily Skin

Step 1: Cleanse

The oily skin routine starts like any other skin routine: with a cleanse. Washing your face of existing grime and oil buildup, it becomes easier to apply the rest of the products in the routine, and makes those products more effective.

The best cleanser for oily skin will work harder than other options to flush away the oil from the surface of the skin, and to pull oil from the pores. For this, find a cleanser that uses similar ingredients to a deep-cleansing face mask, since those masks’ job is to extract oil and impurities from pores. Look for ingredients like activated charcoal or, better yet, cleansing clay, which has up to four times the amount of oil-extracting powers as the runner-up charcoal. This is why clay is the key ingredient in Cardon’s soothing skin cleanser, which is suitable for all skin types thanks to its gentle formula.

When to use: Wash the skin first thing in the morning, last thing before bed, and any time as needed during the day—like if it’s excessively hot out, or after the gym. Splash lukewarm water on the face (with clean hands) and then put a dime-sized amount of cleanser in one palm. Rub the palms together to build a lather, and then apply it to the face, starting at the center with both hands.  Moving the hands upward and outward across the forehead and over the eyes, then repeat from the nose, down under the eyes and across the cheeks, then once more from the chin outward to the jaw.

What to watch out for: Many think the best oily skin routine for men is to simply wash the face over and over, whenever the oil builds up. This could mean you’re over-cleansing your face, which in turn dries out skin. That dryness triggers the skin to produce even more oil, which gives you a bigger problem than you the one with which you began.

▶ Shop: Face Wash for Oily Skin

Step 2: Tone

A toner is a product that, when applied after a cleanser, balances the skin’s pH levels and thus prevents excess sebum production. It also ensures that the skin doesn’t get too dry–in the event that the person has over-cleansed their face.

Cheat sheet on pH levels: Recall that scale of 1-14 that we learned in high school chemistry, wherein 1 is “extremely acidic” and 14 is “extremely alkaline, or basic”. Most people’s skin is slightly acidic, around 5.5. Excessive oil production can make your skin’s pH level more basic, and when skin isn’t balanced, it becomes irritated, dry, or inflamed.

A toner exists almost solely to achieve this balance, regulate oil production, and in turn keep skin clear, matte, and smooth. Stick with toners that contain no alcohol, and instead target ones with natural, soothing ingredients, like witch hazel or rose water.

When to use: Toners can be used daily on oily skin—twice if they’re especially gentle, but once is typically enough. It’s best done after the morning cleanse, to balance skin for the day ahead. If only toning your body was so easy…

Step 3: Moisturize

The last main step in an oily skin regimen is to moisturize. People with oily skin often have a hard time with thick, heavy moisturizers since they tend to block pores and lead to excessive sweating and oil production. So, stick with a lightweight option that promises breathability. Look for hydrators that are water-based and non-comedogenic.

It’s a common myth that people with oily skin don’t need to moisturize. Moisturizers sit on top of the skin like a shield, and they keep harmful toxins and pollutants from taking residence in the pores. Many of them also have SPF to prevent skin-aging and cancer-causing UV rays from damaging the skin. The body intuitively responds to moisturizers by better regulating and lowering oil levels; so it’s quite the opposite verdict for people with oily skin.

Cardon has two options for water-based moisturizers. The lightweight SPF 30 moisturizer shields skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays without clogging the pores. The gel moisturizer should be worn overnight to rejuvenate skin without suffocating it. The gel moisturizer can also double up as a great daytime moisturizer for oily skin since it wears invisibly. If you’re looking for an extra hydration boost or facing a dry winter day, layer the two moisturizers together during the daytime, gel first, SPF second.

When to use: Moisturizers should be used twice a day, at minimum, after cleansing and toning. They can be used more as needed—typically after an afternoon shower or if SPF needs to be reapplied (which is technically every two hours if you’re out in the sun).

Buyers guide: how to choose a men’s skincare product

Ideally, men’s skin routines should include a cleanser or face wash, exfoliator, serum, moisturiser, and SPF. Here’s what each of these men’s skincare products does:

  • Cleanser – gently dissolves oil, grime, and other impurities from your face.
  • Face wash – cleans your face more deeply, removing deeper-seated dirt and debris.
  • Exfoliator – removes dead skin cells, increases blood circulation, and brightens skin.
  • Serum – these lightweight moisturisers with a high concentration of active ingredients penetrate deep down into your skin to treat specific skin concerns.
  • Moisturiser – this is thicker than a serum, with a cream-like consistency. It’s used to hydrate skin and seal in moisture.
  • SPF – a good sunscreen is essential for protecting your skin against harmful UV rays, preventing the signs of ageing, and avoiding inflammation and discolouration.

Optional extra products

  • Toners – these can be used before moisturising to get rid of any remaining excess oil or persistent dirt.
  • Eye creams – these target the delicate skin under your eyes, helping to reduce dark circles and wrinkles.
  • Face masks – these can be used on a weekly basis for a deep cleanse, unclogging pores and stimulating blood circulation.
  • Night creams – these thick facial creams are applied last thing before you go to sleep and are slowly absorbed into your skin to boost hydration and improve tone and texture.

Different skin types

Before choosing a particular product, you should first determine your skin type.

  • Dry skin – when the skin doesn’t produce enough sebum, or oil, it tends to flake and become irritated, or feel tight, itchy, and brittle. Try exfoliators to remove dead skin and a heavy moisturiser containing hyaluronic acid to replenish moisture.
  • Normal skin – this means that you don’t suffer from any particular skin issues except for the occasional spot or pimple. But you might still consider a product containing Vitamin C to help maintain your healthy skin.
  • Oily skin – this is caused by an overproduction of sebum and makes skin appear shiny with large pores. You might also be prone to whiteheads or blackheads. As counter-intuitive as it sounds, you need to keep your skin adequately hydrated or it will over-compensate by producing even more sebum. Try a hydrating oil such as rosehip.
  • Combination skin this means that some areas of your face are oily—usually your forehead, nose, and chin—and the rest are dry. Look for products that balance skin and only use lightweight moisturisers.
  • Sensitive – sensitive skin typically entails irritation, redness, and bumps, triggered by things like stress, weather, or harsh skin treatments. Opt for a simple skincare routine with only gentle products.

Different skin concerns

Different products are formulated to target particular skin concerns.

  • Wrinkles – prevent wrinkles with a good quality sunscreen and minimise the appearance of existing wrinkles with moisturising ingredients like hyaluronic acid. Also, consider glycolic acid to boost collagen and elastin and retinol to increase cell turnover.
  • Acne – this is often caused by too much sebum so consider a toner to dry out your skin. You could also use a combination of a heavy-duty face wash and an exfoliator every other day, along with a moisturiser.
  • Rosacea – minimise the appearance of rosacea by using an anti-inflammatory serum or lotion and a moisturiser to repair your natural skin barrier. But keep your skin routine to a minimum to avoid irritation.
  • Hyperpigmentation – look for products containing Vitamin C which is an antioxidant and can help even out skin tone. Kojic acid’s natural bleaching properties reduce the appearance of dark marks.
  • Eczema – avoid any active ingredients like retinol or anything with fragrances. Look for heavy-duty moisturisers known as emollients.

5 Things Women Say They Love About Men’s Skin

Guys, here’s the reality: Women love your skin. Sure, you probably get more compliments on your bulging biceps or chiseled abs. But make no mistake—the ladies go absolutely bananas over guys with amazing-looking skin.

Which naturally begs the question: What is it about your skin that women love in particular? Take a look and then start working to improve your skincare regimen ASAP.

A Healthy Glow

Both men and women are naturally programmed to find healthy appearances attractive. And guess which physical trait provides one of the biggest clues to your overall health? That’s right: Your skin.

Healthy skin gives off a subtle glow in the form of rosiness, yellowness, and brightness. These qualities signal good health and vitality, which women obviously prefer in a mate.

How to Get It:

So, how do you get glowing skin that radiates good health? Start by eating lots of fruits and vegetables—preferably, ones with high amounts of carotenoids.

In a 2011 study published in Evolution and Human Behavior, researchers found that individuals with higher intake of carotenoids—fat-soluble pigments that are often found in tomatoes and carrots—had a more golden skin color and were considered more attractive as a result. Just load up on carotenoid-rich foods and you should see a noticeable glow within a few weeks.

Plus, if your face keeps breaking out all of a sudden, eating more fruits and vegetables can potentially help clear up your skin as well. Which leads us to our next point…

Clear Skin

Who doesn’t find blemish-free skin attractive? Not only does clear skin give man confidence (which is an attractive trait in itself), it’s yet another sign of good health.

Unfortunately, many guys find blemish-free skin hard to come by due to overactive sebaceous (oil) glands. The underlying culprit is usually a combination of genetics, age and using the wrong skincare products.

How to Get It:

It’s a simple fact: Women aren’t going to notice your glowing skin if you have acne around the mouth or an unsightly swarm of blackheads on your nose. So, how do you get rid of them?

The easiest way to achieve clear skin is by getting on a regular skincare routine. Washing your face daily followed by a men’s moisturizer can go a long way in helping you achieve clear skin.

If your face is breaking out and you can’t figure out why you might want to take a closer look at your skincare products or lifestyle habits. There are plenty of sneaky causes of acne that can contribute to sudden breakouts.

On the bright side, there is one major benefit to men having oilier skin than women. The excess oils produced by our sebaceous glands contribute to our youthful complexions, helping us to age like fine wine.

Women typically want the financial security that older men are more likely to provide, but that doesn’t mean they also want their old, saggy skin. In other words, if you’re a guy in his mid-40s with the face of a young thirty-something, it’s definitely working in your favor.

How to Get It:

If you want to keep wrinkles at bay for as long as possible, you need to bring out the heavy-hitters early. Starting in your mid to late twenties, consider adding a powerful men’s eye cream to your skincare regimen.

Why an eye cream? It’s simple–guys often see signs of aging around the eyes as they creep up in age. With a hydrating eye cream in your bathroom cabinet, you can diminish fine lines and wrinkles and stay youthful (and attractive) for years to come.

Your Post-Workout Flush

Everyone knows the mental and physical health benefits of exercise. Did you also know that your flushed face and rosy skin can be a major turn-on to women?

In a 2009 study published in PLoS ONE, researchers suggest that increased redness in the skin is a signal of underlying health and reproductive status. Skin that is pale is often considered a sign of illness, while slightly flushed skin is a sign that you have more oxygen-rich blood pumping throughout your body.

How to Get It:

Obviously, the best way to get a post-workout flush is by exercising regularly. However, there are things you can do to achieve a rosier complexion.

If you smoke, start trying to kick the habit. Smoking restricts blood vessels in the skin, resulting in a paler complexion.

Exfoliating your skin regularly can also help you achieve a rosier tint to your skin. Using a men’s exfoliating scrub once or twice a week will remove dead skin cells which can build up and result in a dull complexion.

Darker Complexions

For decades, Hollywood’s most attractive leading men have been described as being tall, dark and handsome. This description may have some basis in fact.

According to a 2008 study published in Poetics, researchers analyzed more than 2,000 print advertisements of men and women. They found that women were most often portrayed with fair-skinned complexions, while men of the same race had darker complexions.

To sum the research up, fair complexions in women are considered the ideal aesthetic because they symbolize purity and goodness. Men with darker complexions, on the other hand, are considered more dangerous and mysterious, which provides a sexy allure for many women.

How to Get It:

Spoiler alert: You’re mostly stuck with the complexion you were born with. However, paler-skinned guys can achieve a darker complexion safely by getting a spray tan for men and by eating certain foods.

If you want to eat your way to a darker complexion, munch on antioxidant-rich foods (think leafy greens, blueberries and colorful veggies). Antioxidants can help boost the melanin in your skin, giving you a healthy and natural-looking tan.

The Takeaway

Your skin is practically broadcasting your health and vitality to the ladies. Don’t you want it to send the right signals?

If you want women to find you attractive, start prioritizing your skin health. Get on a regular skin care regimen, eat healthy and work out consistently. By doing all three, you can achieve sexy skin that is sure to give you a leg up in the dating game.

Skin Care for Men in Their 20s, 30s, and 40s

Medically reviewed by Mary Lucas, RN Written by Our Editorial Team Last updated 5/25/2020

With age comes experience and wisdom…and wrinkles and gray hair. Not everything about aging is cause for celebration. But while you might not be able to stop the aging process, caring for your skin can increase the likelihood that at least your complexion will age somewhat gracefully.

Your skin doesn’t stay the same from season to season, and certainly not from year to year. It not only adjusts to accommodate seasonal, environmental changes, but also the changes going on within you. As you age, oil production slows and wrinkles appear. Working with your skin during these changes means understanding what’s going on and being flexible in your skin care routine.

Sure, not every man is a walking acne advertisement in his twenties and a wrinkle prevention spokesperson in his forties—we’re all different. But many complexions follow a similar trajectory as we age, and advice catered to these generalizations can be fitting for many men.

Skin Care In Your 20s

For most men, oil control is a biggie in your twenties. Sure, you may not have the pimpled, greasy glow of your teens, but high testosterone levels do lead to extra oil production. And if your pores are clogged on top of this extra moisture, pimples generally result.

The best thing you can do for this young, glowing complexion is control the oil as much as possible and keep it clean.

Cleanse. Look for an oil-free cleanser labeled as non-comedogenic, which means it won’t block your pores.  If your skin is extra greasy, opt for a daily cleanser with benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid, which will help control oil production. Wash at least twice daily, especially in the morning, evening, and after workouts.

Exfoliate. Don’t overthink exfoliation. Exfoliating simply means removing dead skin cells. If you shave, you already do it. Sweat is another good exfoliator and so are some of the ingredients in acne treatments. The textured products that promise to uncover new skin are generally too abrasive. If you occasionally feel like your need extra exfoliation, a clean washcloth will do the trick.

Treat breakouts. Treat any pimples or areas prone to breakouts with spot treatments and all-over acne products containing salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide.

Moisturize and protect. Moisturize daily. Yes, even oily skin needs help with moisture balance. If you dry your skin out too much, oil-production can actually increase to compensate. Look for a light, oil-free daily moisturizer with sunscreen. Your older self will thank you for protecting your face from the wrinkle-producing rays of the sun.

Skin Care In Your 30s

By now, you’re likely starting to see some changes in your skin type, texture, and appearance. It may be slightly drier and rougher, and wrinkles may be appearing around your eyes. Your skin care routine will need to change as your complexion does. If you’re still just as greasy and acne prone as you were in your 20s, you don’t need to change much, but assuming your skin is aging as you are, you’ll likely want to switch things up accordingly.

Cleanse. For combination skin, a mild daily cleanser is best. It may take trial and error for you to find one that balances your skin best. Look for a gel or liquid cleanser that is labeled mild and non-comedogenic. If your breakouts have mostly subsided, you may be able to use a cleanser just once daily and rinse your face with clean, lukewarm water for your second wash.

Exfoliate. Your skin cells may be turning over at a faster rate, now, and a gentle exfoliator can help remove the dead skin cells. Glycolic acid is an alpha-hydroxy acid that weakens the bonds between skin cells and helps slough away the outermost layers without damaging the healthy skin underneath. Though exfoliation is optional, a product with glycolic acid is your best bet.

Treat problems overnight. Overnight is a great time for your skin to soak up beneficial ingredients. In your thirties, you may want to consider a night serum or cream to help treat the early signs of aging. Some night creams are very thick and moisturizing; unless your skin is very dry, you’ll want to watch out for these and instead look for one made for normal or combination skin. Dermatologists typically recommend anti-aging formulas containing retinoids.

Moisturize and protect. Protect your skin from continued damage by the sun by using a moisturizer with sunscreen daily. The benefits here are two-fold — moisturized skin is more youthful skin, as a good moisture can reduce the appearance of fine lines by as much as 20%, according to a paper in the Journal of Clinical Investigations. But also, the sun never stops its relentless attack on your complexion, and in your thirties, if not before, you begin to see the signs of this damage appearing.

Skin Care In Your 40s

That rugged, aging look works for some men — think Sean Connery, for example. But if the former 007’s face was littered with age spots and dull, lifeless skin, you can bet his sex appeal would drop several notches. Keep the salt-and-pepper gray hair that may be coming in when you hit your forties, but continue to strive for a youthful, healthy complexion.

The key to youthful skin in your forties, fifties and beyond is moisture.

Cleanse. Choose a cleanser specifically made for aging skin. Obviously, some men will always have slightly oily skin — if this is you, continue to look for an oil-free anti-aging formula. However, it’s more likely you can opt for something with more moisture now. If your skin is dry, look for a cream cleanser to be used once or twice daily.

Treat the signs of aging. Anti-aging serums, including overnight treatments, are more of a must-have now. Products with antioxidants help slow the degradation of collagen and those with retinoids can increase collagen production. Vitamin C, an antioxidant, has proven a potentially strong anti-aging ingredient and vitamin A, a retinol, is also frequently found in these products.

Moisturize and protect. Moisture is more important now than ever. Not only does it make your skin appear more youthful, but depending on ingredients, can help it stay that way for years to come. Daily moisturizers specifically made for aging skin will likely be thicker than the oil-free daily moisturizers of your youth for this reason. Sunscreen is still a must-have at this age.

Skin Care Tips No Matter Your Age

There are some things you can do for your skin, throughout your life, to ensure a healthy complexion for years to come.

  1. Don’t smoke. Smoking damages collagen and elastin and can lead to premature aging, as if you need another reason to forgo this habit.
  2. Stay hydrated. Moisture for your skin can come from the inside out. Always make sure to drink plenty of water.
  3. Eat a healthy diet. Your skin’s health depends on the vitamins and minerals in your diet. A diet heavy in sugar and refined carbohydrates can speed the aging process, according to the American Academy of Dermatology.
  4. Sweat regularly. Exercise isn’t only good for your neck-down, it also helps create a youthful glow by purging toxins from your pores. Get your blood flowing on a regular basis.
  5. Be gentle to your skin. If a product stings, scrapes or otherwise hurts your face, it’s likely too harsh. Even skin that is acne prone needs a gentle approach.
  6. Always, always wear sunscreen. Have we beaten this dead horse enough? Sun damage doesn’t only contribute to the signs of aging but can lead to increased cancer risk. Always protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays.

Features of male skin care

Men’s facial skin is denser, more oily and less sensitive. She does not require the same careful care and protection as a woman’s.

In addition, men, as a rule, are supporters of minimalism and prefer to do with a small amount of funds to achieve a result.

In this article, you will learn how to properly take care of men’s skin, depending on age and skin condition, in order to look successful and attractive.

Watch the video on YouTube:

Features of men’s skin

First of all, I would like to say a few words about the peculiarities of men’s skin.

Perhaps many of you know that the skin is a hormone-dependent organ, and since the hormonal background in men and women has certain differences, this naturally affects the condition of the skin.

Men’s skin is generally denser, more oily and less sensitive than women’s.

The advantage of men’s skin is that it is more resistant to external irritants – sun, wind, heat or frost and in most cases does not require such careful care and protection as delicate women’s skin.

And the disadvantages are that at a young age guys are often worried about increased oily skin and a tendency to rashes.

Of course, there are exceptions and you can find men with thin, dry and sensitive skin. In this case, of course, you need a special individual approach.

I will try to give you universal advice that will help you navigate the features of men’s skin care and will most likely suit most owners of men’s skin without any problems.

Features of men’s skin care

The peculiarity of men’s skin care is that men, as a rule, are supporters of minimalism in care, they hate a large number of jars in the bathroom, and do not understand why women buy so many cosmetics.

But women do this not because they are spenders (although there are, of course, spenders who buy a lot of excess 🙂), but often still because it takes much more time and money to protect and care for the delicate female skin.

In addition, our society, including men, make higher demands on the appearance of women than on the appearance of men.

Fortunately, men do not need such careful care, and in most cases, you can get by with a minimum amount of cosmetics.

Men’s skin care up to 30 years old

For the care of young male skin up to 30, as a rule, two products are enough – a cleanser and a tonic.

Facial cleansing

As a washbasin, you can use a gel or foam for daily cleansing, and how to choose a good washbasin – I described in detail in a separate article.

Men can use toners for sensitive skin or soothing after shave lotions to tone the skin after cleansing or shaving.

It is necessary to cleanse and tone the skin every day, morning and evening.

Your natural face cream

In principle, nothing else is required for the care of young male skin.

At this age, men have a rather high activity of the sebaceous and sweat glands, the secret of which forms its own cream on the surface of the skin – a hydrolipid mantle, which perfectly protects the skin from external irritants.

Therefore, young men usually do not need to use a moisturizing face cream.Rather, using a moisturizing gel or cream unnecessarily can often contribute to an oily sheen or clogged pores.

Exceptions are trips to the sea, trips to the beach, that is, prolonged exposure to the sun, when both women and men need to use sunscreen.

Problem skin

A special approach is required for the care of skin prone to breakouts. In this case, it is advisable to purchase a cleansing gel and toner for problem skin.

Such products, as a rule, contain acids, plant extracts and other components that not only cleanse, but also:

  • Acidify the skin,
  • Normalize pH,
  • Provide antibacterial and
  • Anti-inflammatory effect.

Owners of problem skin can also be prescribed gels or creams with acids, retinol and herbal extracts.

Or pharmaceutical preparations that will have an exfoliating effect, regulate the secretion of the sebaceous glands and help reduce rashes.

Men’s skin care after 30 years

After thirty, the activity of the sebaceous glands begins to gradually decrease, and if, after washing and toning, a feeling of dryness and tightness appears, you can include a gel or face cream in your care.

It can be either a regular moisturizing gel or cream, for example, with aloe, or products with anti-aging components, for example, with peptides or vitamin C.

With age, there comes a moment when after waking up there is no longer excess sebum and oily sheen in the T-zone, in this case in the morning it is quite enough just to wash your face with water.

After that, if necessary, you can proceed to shaving, and then toning.

Face cream

If you are already using a face cream, then for a start it is quite enough to apply such a product only once a day, for example, in the morning.

And in the evening just wash with foam and apply face toner. With age, when the skin becomes even drier, the cream can be used twice a day – in the morning and in the evening.

But if a man does not like the feeling of a cream on his face during the day and it seems that the cream is visible on the face or gives an oily shine, then in the morning he can confine himself to cleansing and toning.

A moisturizing or anti-aging cream should be used only in evening care. The same goes for eye cream.

Your basic care

For men after 30, four treatments are enough:

  1. Washroom
  2. Tonic
  3. Face Cream
  4. Cream for the area around the eyes

And if a man really uses them regularly, that’s good. This is just wonderful!

However, there are men who love to take care of themselves, or men for whom appearance is of great importance, for example, actors. And such men may be interested in additional facial skin care.

In this case, you can include peels and face masks in your care 1-2 times a week.

Peels have an exfoliating effect and make the skin smoother, and various masks – cleansing, nourishing or moisturizing – will give the face an even more well-groomed look.

Can men use cosmetics for women in their care?

Yes, in most cases men can use facial cleansing foams, tonics, creams, peels and face masks designed for women.

But in such cases, you need to carefully approach the choice of cosmetics and take into account the characteristics of male skin.

For example, a cleansing foam for normal to combination female skin may be too soft for normal to combination male skin and may not cleanse well enough.

In this case, it makes sense to try products designed for combination and oily female skin.

And, of course, it is worth noting that some brands produce lines specially designed for home care of men’s skin.

Such cosmetics are adapted to the peculiarities of men’s skin and, in addition, such lines are distinguished by their masculine design and aroma.

Cosmetologist. No

Features of men’s skin care

It is a mistake to believe that cosmetology is the “lot” of the female part of society. Men’s skin also needs care and procedures that prolong its beauty and youth …

Some features of men’s skin:

  • the epidermis and dermis are denser;
  • subcutaneous adipose tissue is less pronounced;
  • the number of collagen fibers responsible for the strength and elasticity of the tissue is greater, and the location is different – according to the “mesh” type (if we compare the same indicators in women).

Hence the conclusion: dryness, increased sensitivity, thinning of the skin and the formation of wrinkles in men appear later. However, when age-related changes in collagen develop and deep wrinkles are formed, they are most pronounced in men. Men’s skin is more likely to be exposed to aggressive factors (daily shaving, ultraviolet irradiation, with improper care, the skin becomes sensitive and dehydrated).

Principles of Home Skin Care:

  • Cleansing.
  • Humidification.
  • Photoprotection.

Due to the need for daily shaving and, often, improper care of hygiene products, the problem of ostiofolliculitis is urgent. In order to avoid this problem, it is necessary to choose the right cosmetic products (keratolytics are added to most of the medicinal products of the pharmacy or professional line, which makes it possible to competently prepare the skin for shaving and is the prevention of ingrown hairs) and to remind the elementary rules of hygiene (frequent blade changes, their treatment with chlorhexidine). If the problem of ostiofolliculitis has already arisen, you need to consult a dermatocosmetologist with the appointment of treatment.

Skin care in a clinic

Men’s skin care is certainly relevant and in demand (hardware, laser, injection techniques). You can get more detailed information and answers to questions from a dermatocosmetologist.

Men’s Skin Care or the Ideal Man by Oriflame

Men’s Skin Care for the Ideal Man.

Interesting data obtained on the basis of a sociological survey conducted in 2016. According to its results, more than 49 men reported taking careful daily grooming. Most of the male participants in the survey also stated that they quit bad habits in order to improve the condition of their facial skin and overall appearance. 90% of men said they use at least the following products: shaving foam and aftershave gel.

Most men believe that a well-groomed appearance is very important for business success. And because the modern man knows how important it is to look great. (Moreover, with our collection of fragrances and products for face, body and hair, complex care is not a problem.)

We must understand features of men’s skin care .

Visually, men age more slowly.
But there are huge disadvantages men’s skin is constantly injured during shaving. The skin is very sensitive, prone to irritation.
Increased sebum secretion makes the face shine, suffer from blackheads, acne and enlarged pores.

Men have more active blood circulation, so they are more likely to suffer from dilated vessels on the face than women.

What to do?

As we know, the skin needs to be cleansed, moisturized and protected! These are daily procedures.
But besides the fact that the skin sweats, secretes sebum, becomes dirty, dehydrates, the time comes when it begins to age …
And from about 35 we can talk about the prevention of aging of male skin and recommend special care products.

Negative changes can be reduced by helping the skin to maintain its youthfulness and freshness for as long as possible.
Oriflame in its portfolio has a collection of men’s cosmetics , recently updated North for Men , which includes everything you need for a comprehensive daily body and face care.

Rhodiola Rosea root extract became the basis of the active complex Arctic Pro Defense, which protects the skin from environmental aggression, UV and prevents premature aging.

  • Preparations with fruit acids are indispensable for cleansing the face and body. They help to remove dead epithelial cells, cleanse contaminated pores. Due to their regular use in the subcutaneous tissues, metabolic processes are normalized.
  • The use of creams enriched with UV filters will protect aging skin from the adverse external environment, prevent the signs of premature aging, and maintain the required water balance.
  • Serums on the basis of a gel formula for the skin around the eyes – a separate direction in men’s cosmetology against wrinkles. These products are enriched with minerals that allow you to delicately and productively care for delicate skin, relieve it of pigmentation.
