The Best Makeup Routine For Large Pores
As far as common skin care concerns go, large pores are one of the easier imperfections to conceal. Check out our steps below to create a flawless makeup look, while minimizing your pores.
Step #1: Use A Primer That Targets Pores
Our best pore-minimizing primer can help smooth out your skin and make pores look smaller, leaving you with an even surface to apply your makeup. The L’Oréal Paris Studio Secrets Professional Magic Perfecting Base has a silky, lightweight formula that glides onto the skin, leaving it with a velvety-smooth matte finish. The non-comedogenic formula works to smooth out lines and hides pores. Apply the primer dot by dot and blend it out with a makeup blender.
Editor’s Tip: For large pores, be sure to apply the primer to your nose and cheeks to help blur their appearance in those areas.
Step #2: Wear A Matte Foundation
Foundations with a dewy finish may enhance the look of large pores so opt for a pick with a matte finish like the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Up to 24H Fresh Wear in a Powder, matte finish. This fresh wear powder foundation has a breathable and weightless formula that stays put for up to 24 hours. The best part? It’s waterproof and sweatproof, so you won’t have to worry about touch-ups throughout the day. The powder applies onto the skin smoothly and it’s easy to build without looking cakey.
Step #3: Use A Blendable Concealer
Follow up with a concealer to disguise and highlight parts of your face. Use the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Full Wear Concealer Waterproof, Full Coverage. Its waterproof, non-greasy formula provides full coverage with a matte finish, making it easy to mask imperfections, whether you’re dealing with discoloration or blemishes. Aside from its coverage, the concealer also won’t transfer, fade, or flake. Apply a few dots to target areas and use a damp makeup blender to dab the product onto your skin.
Editor’s Tip: Put down your makeup brushes and pick up a makeup blender instead. Brushes can emphasize the look of your pores by leaving behind brush strokes, while a blender helps to create seamless coverage.
Step #4: Apply A Translucent Powder
Follow up with a loose, translucent setting powder like the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Sweep & Lock Loose Setting Face Powder to help keep the rest of your makeup from shifting throughout the day. Dip your makeup blender into the powder and apply a thin layer over your face to set your makeup. Let the powder sit for a few minutes to absorb into your skin and dab away any excess.
Step #5: Reach For A Matte Blush
Shimmery blushes can draw attention to large pores in the same way that illuminating foundations can. So opt for a matte blush using the L’Oréal Paris True Match Naturale Blush. Apply your blush color of choice lightly, skimming over the apples of your cheeks.
Step #6: Spritz With A Setting Spray
As the final step, set your makeup with the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Spray & Set Makeup Extender Setting Spray. Spritz the setting spray four to six times in a “T” and “X” shape to help extend the life of your makeup look for a long-lasting finish.

How To Make Your Pores Look Nonexistent
Celebrities, they’re just like us, right? While that might be true when they shop for groceries or make a pit stop at Starbucks, it certainly isn’t the case when it comes to makeup. We can’t be the only ones who wonder how they get that airbrushed finish from their foundation every single time—seriously, not a pore in sight. Before you go breaking out the magnifying mirror and staring at those pinholes peeking out from under your own makeup, we have a few tricks for hiding them rather than enhancing them. And remember: Even the most flawless-looking A-list women have pores. They just have a team of makeup artists to hide them. Ahead, our tips for masking the most common (and annoying) complexion predicament like a pro.
Don’t Just Swipe On Your Primer, Press It Into Your Skin
If you struggle with large pores, chances are you’ve already invested in a blurring primer. But if you’re just swiping the product onto your face, you’re doing it wrong. Instead, press it into your skin to fill in those microscopic holes and ensure a smooth canvas.
Use A Different Kind Of Primer
Eye shadow primers are built to battle the most prominent creases on your face, so when used on other problem areas, they conceal imperfections and keep them a secret all day long. This step is optional, but if you feel like you need extra coverage (we’re talking girls’ night out, your birthday or wedding day), add a layer and press it in.
Swap Your Liquid Foundation
A thick liquid foundation can enhance pores—instead opt for a powder version to completely mask them. When it comes to the final look, pressed foundation offers complete matte coverage, while loose powder provides a softer look and lighter coverage.
Apply Your Foundation With A Brush
If pores are your main concern, swap your makeup sponge for a dense brush. Use a circular motion to buff your powder foundation into the skin.
If you have large pores, chances are you get super oily in your T-zone. When those oils begin to produce in the middle of your day, they make the pinholes visible all over again. To keep your makeup in place (and your pores invisible), stash oil-blotting sheets in your purse for midday touch-ups.
7 ways to prevent the polka dot pores look after applying foundation
We all know that makeup is supposed to make us look flawless, but sometimes it can be hard to achieve this look.

Cleaning Your Skin
If you have large pores, it’s important to use a gentle cleanser. A harsh one will only aggravate the problem and strip away your skin’s natural sebum. This can result in over production of oil which leads to big pores and even acne.
Overwashing is also a bad habit as it can trigger oil production.
It’s best to wash your face NOT more than twice a day. In the evening, cleanse your face to remove all the dirt and makeup. In the morning, cleanse to get rid of all the oil and dirt from overnight.
Sleeping with your makeup on is not recommended. During the night, it can can trap dead skin cells and cause clogged pores. This leads to more acne, blackhead and breakouts.
Exfoliate the skin
Exfoliating removes dead skin cells or dull skin from the surface of the skin. It helps preventing clogged pores which allows for a smooth makeup application.
Salicylic acid exfoliators like this one are a great option for oily skin. In fact, salicylic acid can penetrate into the pores to unclog them.
You just need to make sure you are not over exfoliating the skin to avoid irritation. When just starting out, use it in moderation and test how your skin will react to it.
Exfoliating products with charcoal like this one are also good for oily skin. They can help clean out the pores and prevent acne.
Dry skin also needs exfoliation to get rid of flaky and dead skin cells. Try to avoid harsh ones and opt for a gentle exfoliator.
Many people have big pores around the nose area, check these tips and tricks on how to stop foundation from separating on your nose.
Moisturizing the skin
Moisturizer helps smoothing the skin’s surface for a smooth makeup application.
Applying foundation on dry skin can cause the makeup to settle into the pores or even into any fine lines or wrinkles.
For dry skin, avoid moisturizers with alcohol which can be extremely drying.
I like the Cerave moisturizing cream It has a light formula that contains ceramides and hyaluronic acid to hydrate the skin. It soothes dry skin and it wears beautifully under makeup too which is so important.
For oily skin, the neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel-Cream is a great choice. It has glycerin and hyaluronic acid that gently hydrates the skin without making it feel greasy. Its water gel formula absorbs quickly into the skin and it wears well under makeup too.
Apply a pore minimizing primer
Choosing the right primer can help minimizing the appearance of the pores and creating a smooth canvas.
Silicone based primers in particular can blur away fine lines and large pores. They don’t allow your pores to show through your foundation by creating a crease-free finish.
You probably don’t need to use primers everyday, but they are great for special occasions when you want this perfect airbrushed look. They help the makeup to last longer too.
This primer is one of the best at the drugstore. It has a lightweight formula that blends so easily into the skin. It minimizes the appearance of the pores while keeping the skin shine-free.
The Dr. Brandt Skincare pores no more pore refiner primer is also a great one! It has oil absorbing ingredients and it blurs the pores perfectly.
Choose the best foundation type for big pores
Some foundations settle into the pores much more than others. Shimmery foundations for example can emphasize the look of large pores. Choose a foundation that helps to blur the pores.
Silicone based foundations with mattifying properties work the best for big pores. In fact, silicone can blur the skin which gives you a smoother look.
There are many good foundations for large pores as well as many drugstore foundations that work well for big pores or for large pores and dry skin.
Choose a lightweight foundation that gives the skin a velvet or matte finish. Thick foundations can also look heavy and make your face look older.
tip : Apply a thin layer of foundation on the areas where you have larger pores.
Cream and liquid foundations are more likely to give the polka dot pores effect. If none of these formulas are working for you, try to use powder foundations as they can look better on people with big pores.
Mineral foundations work well to make large pores look invisible too. They provide good coverage and they don’t settle into fine lines.
The best way to apply foundation for large pores
As it glides on the skin, foundation can make the large pores look bigger. Sometimes, even if you skin is perfectly prepared and moisturized, many foundations can still cause this issue.
If you are following a good skincare routine, you don’t absolutely need a lot of products to hide enlarged pores.
Try a different technique to apply your foundation. There will be some trial and error involved until you figure out what works best for you.
The best way to apply foundation for large pores is by using a round and dense brush.
I learned this technique from Wayne Goss. It’s the best way to hide pores with makeup and it works without using a primer.
You can see the demonstration in the video down below:
What can we do to treat them?
It’s an oldie but a goodie – prevention is better than cure, since, as we’ve already established, once pores stretch, they won’t become smaller. “While you may not be able to shrink your pore size, you can ensure your pores don’t get any bigger by following a proper skin care plan,” says Nina who recommends using medical grade skincare products such as salicylic acid, alpha hydroxy acid, glycolic acid, retinol and non-comedogenic makeup (i.e. lightweight makeup that won’t clog your pores).
And for a little extra help, Nina suggests using a makeup primer. “A makeup primer not only helps your makeup stay in place, but it smooths and fills the surface of the skin which can help reduce the appearance of enlarged pores.”

Makeup Tips for Large Pores?
Question: Makeup for Large Pores?
I have large pores on my nose and on the skin on either side of my nose. I call it “orange peel” skin because nothing conceals the pore size. The rest of my facial skin is normal and has no large pores. Every makeup I’ve used settles in these pores and looks bad at the end of the day. Does anyone have a brand of makeup that is best or any tips for this problem?

A few tips to clean and then shrink pores. Fill your sink with very hot water and lean over the sink with a towel around your face and head to open the pores and then cool the water to a comfortable level and wash the area with the enlarged pores with a good exfoliator.
Old coffee grounds or raw corn meal work just as well as any of the commercial products, but if you prefer professional products, St Ives makes a good exfoliating cleanser. It has ground apricot kernels in it as the exfoliating agent. The rest of the ingredients in it are just to make it look, feel and smell nice.
Then splash the area with cool-not cold water and gently pat dry. If any of the pores look as if they still have anything in them, rub the area gently with a piece of raw potato, and let the juice from the potato dry- This really cleans them out big time!
After the juice has dried, gently rinse with cool water, and pat dry. Now comes the sneaky part. Mix the raw white of an egg with a quarter to a half teaspoon of lemon juice, orange juice or lime juice. Whisk the ingredients together and apply lightly to the area in question. Let it dry and leave it on. Apply a very light amount of makeup, and you should be good to go.
I have used this and it worked well for me. I hope it works well for you. PS-exfoliate no more than three times a week, but you can use the egg white/juice every day. If you find the juice is too strong, use less, or omit it totally. It’s the egg white that matters most.

I have unfortunately been cursed with large pores too. After spending alot of money and trying tones of creams the dermatologists simply state that it is genetic. The only makeup that I have found that REALLY does work is CLINIQUE pore minimizer instant perfector.
Yes, the large insightly pores return as soon as you wash your face but it works wonders while I am wearing it. It costs around $22 and is worth more than gold to me.

I have the same problem and am using the product: bare minerals make-up. you can get it from tv or at Sephora and probably online. I bought the package once but only use the mineral veil and have now started only buying that. You just brush it on and it sort of does what it says, “veils” the pores with no residue at the end of the day. You don’t need a lot for it to work – a lot is when you get the residue. Oh, and if I need a touch up during the day – I’ve also been using the philosophy product: “the present/clear powder”. That’s in a tiny bottle that’s good for the purse, inconspicuous and is a cream. Again, you don’t need much. That one is also available at Sephora and plenty of other stores (and I’m sure, again, online) the combo seems to work well – doesn’t get rid of the problem but helps more than anything else I’ve found.
Some others worth noting: pro-active. Yes, it really works and you don’t need acne for it, it’s just good. Or this combo for a face-wash: St.ives apricot scrub oil free (it also comes in a less harsh exfoliant), purpose by Johnson&Johnson, and finally pore refining toner by Neutrogena. Twice a day on the wash and toner (exfoliate as you wish). These three products are found in any drug store or grocery store. I’ve also read a clay mask once a week helps cut back on appearance and should be incorporated into a routine. Blotters aren’t bad to keep in the purse as well (blot, then add the philosophy “the present / clear powder”. Good luck!

Tips to shrink large pores
Two of the most persistent and difficult skin problems to treat are blackheads and enlarged pores. Most skincare products or treatments do provide a temporary improvement, but they only make your skin problems worse in the long run. Here you can read some tips on how to treat blackheads and enlarged pores effectively and with a lasting result.
What causes enlarged pores?
When your sebaceous glands produce excessive sebum that mixes with the dead skin cells in your pores, your pores can become blocked. The sebum cannot discharge freely from the pores, resulting in your pores becoming wider and more clearly visible. This can also cause blackheads.
What you should and should not do
- Stop using skincare products that block your pores or that make your skin produce excessive sebum, such as oily creams with a very creamy texture (on an oily skin) or makeup products containing dehydrating and irritating ingredients, such as alcohol and fragrances.
- Only use mild, water-soluble facial cleansers and never use solid bars of soap. The ingredients used to give soap its solid form can block pores and unbalance the skin’s protective barrier.
- Use an exfoliant with salicylic acid (BHA) in gel or liquid form, without any irritating ingredients. It will enable you to remove excess skin cells from the surface of the skin as well as in the pores. Sebum can then no longer accumulate and the pore will return to its normal size.
- Absorb the excess sebum. Clay face masks absorb sebum and have a positive effect. Also try an oil-absorbing product to wear with your makeup, such as Paula’s Choice Shine Stopper Instant Matte Finish with Microsponge Technology. This will absorb any excessive sebum throughout the day.
- Improving your cell rejuvenation will also make your pores function better. Products – some of which require a prescription – containing cell-communicating retinoids or retinol (=vitamin A) work well. They exist for every skin type and can be used separately or in combination with a BHA exfoliant.
- Use products that are rich in antioxidants, for example one of our serums, to help your skin protect itself from harmful outside influences. With an oilier skin, choose a product in gel or liquid form.
- Look for products containing niacinamide. Niacinamide (also known as vitamin B3) stands out because of its versatility for almost any kind of skincare concern. It can help to visibly minimise enlarged pores, tighten lax pores, improve uneven skin tone, soften fine lines and wrinkles, diminish dullness, and strengthen a weakened surface.
- Protect your skin from sunlight every day! UV rays in sunlight damage your skin cells so they don’t function as well as they should. This distorts the pores, so that it is more difficult to discharge the sebum and they become enlarged.
Give these tips a try
If the specific recommendations and products above do not produce the desired result, then give these more general tips a try:
- Remove blackheads using a comedone extractor. By gently pressing it down, you limit the damage to your skin and pores. If you do not remove blackheads, the pressure and swelling will increase and your pores will – sometimes permanently – enlarge and/or spots will appear.
- Go to a professional beauty specialist. They will be able to remove the blackheads without damaging your skin.
- Consider a professional cosmetic treatment: A high-concentration AHA or BHA mask, microdermabrasion or laser treatment can visibly improve blackheads and milia for all skin types. Take note: these treatments only work on the skin surface and do not improve the condition of the pores. A good daily skincare routine is important as well.
- Select your makeup with care and clean your skin thoroughly before going to bed. Thick, heavy makeup used to mask red blemishes or uneven skin tones blocks the pores.
90,000 How to get rid of enlarged pores? Part 2: Makeup
In of this article, we have already dwelt in detail on the detailed care of the skin of the face with enlarged pores. Today we will give some tips on how to use a primer, makeup base, foundation or BB cream to make even the widest pores much less noticeable and skin tone like stars from the covers of glossy magazines. By the way, we started talking about glossy magazines for a reason. It’s no secret that the faces of celebrities who smile at us from the pages of fashion publications and admire perfect skin have been generously processed with a Photoshop brush. The products we are going to talk about today are often called “Photoshop effect” or “pore grout”. such means transform our skin so much that it seems to have been “photoshopped”. The main topic of the article is face primers.
A primer is a makeup base. It is applied to the skin of the face before foundation or BB cream, or used on its own. The primer prepares the skin for makeup application, literally fills the pores, leaving the micro-relief of the skin even, smooth and matte.

90,000 “Correct” makeup to mask enlarged pores – Medaboutme.ru
It is not always possible to remove enlarged pores on the face with homemade creams and masks, salon procedures by a beautician. But they can be easily disguised with decorative cosmetics. “Correct” makeup will visually make the skin perfectly smooth, smoothed, without a single flaw. What tips will help you create a beautiful make-up?
Use silicone makeup primer
When making a daytime make-up, it is not necessary to use a primer. It turns out to be only an additional layer of cosmetics, which makes the makeup “heavier”, does not allow the skin to “breathe”, and can dry it out. But the foundation will definitely come in handy when creating the perfect evening look! The primer evens out the texture of the skin by filling in the enlarged pores. It will look smooth and velvety. And the foundation, which you will then apply on the face, will evenly fall on the skin, giving the “correct” shade.
Choose a suitable base. The primer must contain silicones. They are the ones who take on the task of “filling” deep pores. Some brands offer cosmetics specifically designed to mask facial irregularities – look on the tube for the indication.
Add a pore tightening serum to the treatment
Instead of using a silicone primer, try using a pore-tightening serum as a base for your makeup. Nowadays, many world-renowned cosmetic brands offer such products.
The serum gives only a visual effect, but this will be quite enough to make a beautiful day or evening make-up. Enlarged pores are a problem more inherent in oily skin. Therefore, many branded serums are aimed at providing a complex effect – matting the T-zone with a greasy shine, relieving inflammation and redness, and promoting acne healing. There are serums that even out skin tone. A quality product will definitely not be superfluous in your cosmetic bag for everyday use.It is quickly absorbed, giving an instant effect.
Find a lightweight foundation
Dense foundation – the main “no” in makeup for problem skin. When applied, the product will “clog” enlarged pores, only highlighting them. This is the main mistake women make when choosing a foundation. It seems to them that only a bold tone will mask imperfections well.
This is not true. It will be much more effective to use a foundation with a light texture. It evens out the skin tone, blends well on its surface. Foundations with a light texture are cushions, fluids, BB creams, CC creams. Try these media formats. Better to give preference to a cream specifically designed for problem, combination or oily skin. Cosmetics, in addition to masking enlarged pores, will also solve other urgent problems – matting the T-zone for a long time, providing an antibacterial effect on areas with inflammation.
Give preference to dry blush
Blush with a creamy and liquid texture has recently become very popular. It is not surprising – the cosmetics give a light shade, are perfectly shaded, the face after its application looks “fresh” and radiant. But if you have problem skin, liquid and cream blush remain banned. These funds can only highlight the existing problems, because they are “clogged” in the pores. And as a rule, cosmetics of this kind contain a fine shimmer in the composition, and the intense shine on problem areas only emphasizes inflammation, blackheads and deep pores.
Continue to use dry blush, they are more suitable for the perfect make-up.It is great if it is a matte or satin texture agent. It won’t give you the intense glow you don’t need if you have enlarged pores.
Don’t forget the highlighter
Despite the fact that with enlarged pores it is undesirable to use cosmetics with a shimmer in the composition, do not remove the highlighter far. A little product on the “right” areas of the face will divert attention from skin imperfections and give it a slight glow.
Highlighter – the final touch of makeup. After applying foundation and powder, treat the T-zone, cheekbones, chin, and the area under the eyebrows with a highlighter. It is convenient to use a thick fluffy brush.
And do not forget that problem skin with enlarged pores loves dry textures more. Therefore, do not use cream or liquid highlighters.
Follow the makeup technique
High-quality cosmetics are the key to perfect makeup. But do not forget about the importance of the technique of its application. No matter how good a foundation, if not properly distributed over the skin, it will only accentuate enlarged pores, not mask them.
For enlarged pores, it is advisable to apply creamy cosmetics with light patting movements. And if you begin to smear the product on your face, it will certainly “clog” the pores, only highlighting the problem of enlarged pores.
Use tools for applying cosmetics
Creamy textures are best applied with a patting motion. But it is difficult to imagine how to do this if the shading is done “manually”. For applying makeup, it is better to use tools – brushes and sponges. They do a much better job of evenly distributing products of any texture over the skin. Another reason for using make-up tools is that they are safer in terms of hygiene. One has only to forget to wash your hands before applying foundation, and all bacteria from your fingers will immediately appear on your face. This is highly undesirable for problem skin with enlarged pores, microorganisms can cause acne and inflammation on the face.
Great if you have already replenished your makeup bag with sponges and brushes. Do not forget to clean them regularly so that they “work” for a long time and do not cause skin rashes. It is recommended that you wash your foundation brushes and sponges after each use. Tools for applying dry cosmetics can be cleaned a little less often – once a week. To remove dirt from sponges and brush bristles, use a soap solution or special cleaners.

Enlarged pores on the face are a fairly common problem. Its appearance can be triggered by various factors: heredity, age, skin type and improper facial care. People with oily skin have wider pores due to the increased work of the sebaceous glands. And with age, the elasticity of the skin is lost, as a result of which enlarged pores also appear. Inappropriate facial care promotes the accumulation of dead cells, sebum and impurities, which also leads to enlarged pores. It is physically very difficult to solve this problem, but you can successfully mask its manifestations. Today we will tell you how to hide enlarged pores on your face with cosmetics.
First of all, it is necessary to rid the skin of everything that clogs the pores (impurities, sebum, dead cells). To do this, you need to take care of your skin at home, cleanse it, peel it, and use suitable cosmetic products. Also, do not forget to regularly visit a beautician, because it is professional procedures in the salon that will minimize the expansion of pores in the future.
There are several mandatory rules in facial care that should not be forgotten. Compliance with them will lead to excellent results. Your skin will shine with beauty and health, and the problem of enlarged pores will be reliably hidden from others.
The first important point in facial skin care is its cleansing. Never go to bed if you haven’t. It is best to cleanse your skin in two steps. First, remove any makeup residue with a special product. And only then use a mild gel wash. Another trick: use steam baths on your face to open pores and allow the active ingredients to penetrate deeper.
The following cosmetics are perfect for cleansing your face:
- Vichy Normaderm Reinigungs-Gel Gegen Hautunreinheiten
- Gel for washing “Skin Naturals Pure Skin Active” from Garnier
- Derma-norm deep cleansing gel with AHA acids from Demax

Peeling is another mandatory step in facial care, which contributes to deep cleansing of the facial skin at home.It should be done no more than 2-3 times a week. Regular exfoliation will prevent your pores from clogging up as it removes dead cells. It should be carried out after cleansing the skin with a gel for washing. For the peeling procedure, it is best to choose cosmetic products with a physical and enzymatic effect on the skin. Products containing alpha hydroxy acids (such as lactic acid), which work primarily as exfoliants, are ideal. For peeling at home, you can use the following cosmetic products:
- Dr.Irena Eris Enzyme Peeling
- face peeling Premium with AXA 8%
- Holy Land Lactolan Peeling Cream

For enlarged pores, use a makeup base to mask them. It creates a barrier between the skin and the foundation, which prevents the penetration of cosmetics into the pores and helps to even out the complexion.
A good choice among makeup bases would be:
- Pupa Professionals Smoothing Foundation Primer
- Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser Correcting Foundation
- Max Factor Face Finiti All Day Primer
Professional face masks
The use of professional face masks is an essential part of the treatment. They promote deep pore cleansing that cannot be achieved with standard daily care.Regular use of professional masks will keep your skin clean, narrow enlarged pores and prevent scarring. The frequency of this procedure should be at least once every 4-6 weeks.
The following cosmetic products are excellent options for this:
- Clinique Anti Blemish Solutions Cleansing Mask
- Demax Plasticizing Mask
- Lambre absorbent mask
Following these simple rules for skin care will allow you to hide enlarged pores on your face at home.Believe me, the result is worth it. The skin will be smooth and radiant with health, and you will feel confident in any situation.

The first thing to do on the way to beautiful skin is to develop the rules for proper cleansing. Of course, this point does not fully relate to the issue of disguise. But without it, it makes no sense to start working with enlarged pores, in principle. So, cleansing skin with enlarged pores should be thorough, but at the same time gentle. In particular, your bathroom shelf should have a high-quality cleansing foam and tonic. Make-up is best washed off with micellar water. But scrubs must be abandoned once and for all. So, the use of scrubs, namely the contact of the skin with abrasive particles, stretch the pores. Replace the scrubs with a cleansing mask.
Always use a primer on areas with enlarged pores before applying makeup. This will help protect them from getting foundation, powder, and other beauty products. The thing is that when it gets into the pores, the foundation darkens, and they become more noticeable. The primer solves this problem with ease.
Forget your fingers
If you have enlarged pores, forget about using your fingers to make-up, as fingers are the first carrier of bacteria. It is better if you accustom yourself to work with the skin only with the help of brushes or sponges. Of course, this recommendation is effective if you regularly take care of your makeup tools.Remember, foundation brushes and sponges should be washed after each use.
Use serum to tighten pores
There are many products on the cosmetic market today that are designed to tighten pores. As practice shows, serums work best in this matter. The thing is that it is whey that is the product in which the composition is very concentrated, and it is able to really affect this or that problem. Unfortunately, with the problem of enlarged pores, cosmetics only work to visually correct the condition. But it’s better than nothing, you must admit. Use serums regularly in your care (of course, in courses), and you will see visible improvements (at least for the period as long as you use the product).

90,000 Expert opinion: is it possible to actually shrink pores
There are hundreds of products on the beauty market that promise to tighten pores. The bad news is that you can’t cut them once and for all. The good news is that it is possible to temporarily and visually make them less visible.SPLETNIK.RU asked cosmetologists and dermatologists what procedures and tools can help in this difficult matter.
What are pores?
Those tiny dots that we see on the surface of your skin, or pores, are actually holes in your hair follicles. Each contains a sebaceous gland, which is why pores are more visible in areas of the face, such as the forehead and nose, where the sebaceous glands are larger.
As the medical expert of the La Roche-Posay brand, dermatovenerologist Alexander Prokofiev, explains, the size of the pores is determined by the type of follicle. There are three types of skin follicles: the first consists of long hair (head) and a small sebaceous gland, the second type is represented by vellus hair and a medium-type sebaceous gland, and the third type of follicle includes short invisible hair and a large sebaceous gland with a wide mouth.
The mouths of the follicles of the third type can be seen on the surface of the skin. The main localization of these follicles is the skin of the face. The number of follicles in different areas of the skin varies greatly: from 20-50 on the back of the hands and lips, to 400-900 per square centimeter in the chest, shoulders and face. The maximum pore diameter can reach 2.5 mm, and they are clearly visible to the naked eye, – says the expert.
In a child, the sebaceous glands are inactive, and during puberty, the synthesis of sex hormones increases, and the activity of the sebaceous glands increases, and the pore size also increases.
The activity of the sebaceous glands and the size of the pores are influenced by human genetic characteristics, as well as the effect of certain factors: hormonal diseases, stress, exposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sun, excessive consumption of sweets, improper skin care.As a rule, people with dry and fair skin have fewer pores than those with olive or dark skin. On oily skin, the pores are especially noticeable.
Skin prone to enlarged pores is immediately visible – it shines, which indicates increased sebum secretion. And sebum is well secreted in people in whom testosterone production predominates. Therefore, the most important step in caring for enlarged pores is the diagnosis of hormonal balance in the body, – says the leading expert of the SkinCeuticals brand Ekaterina Lazakovich.
You can visually make the pores less visible, but since the size of the pores depends on the genetic characteristics, you cannot permanently shorten them. So no lotion or magic potion will magically shrink pores, at least not immediately, , explains Dr. Howard Sobel, dermatologist and founder of Sobel Skin in New York.
Fighting enlarged pores is a lifelong process. You are fighting genetics and aging. But don’t be discouraged: beauty products can temporarily (and visually) shrink pores, and there are treatments that deeply cleanse pores so they become less visible, says Arash Ahavan, MD, a New York City dermatologist.
Pores can be stretched due to accumulation of fat and impurities in the ducts of the sebaceous glands. Age-related changes, exposure to ultraviolet rays and environmental pollution can also lead to reduced collagen production, which in turn will increase pore size, Dr. Sobel adds.
Yulia Krasnaya, dermatovenerologist-cosmetologist, candidate of medical sciences, says that enlargement of pores can also be provoked by dehydrated skin, too dense surface layer of the skin, overly active sebaceous glands and genetic characteristics.
According to Eteri Kenkadze, a dermatovenerologist at the INHYPE salon, washing with too hot or cold water, the use of alcohols and oils in home care and prolonged exposure to the sun should also be added to this list.
Exposure to the sun dehydrates your skin, which forces your sebaceous glands to work even harder and produce double sebum to retain moisture. All this will only contribute to the enlargement of the pores, and not to the reduction.
The main cause of enlarged pores is excessive sebum production. The openings of the ducts of the sebaceous glands (pores) expand due to the need to pass the secretion produced in excess to the surface. Many factors provoke increased sebum secretion, but heredity is considered the main one.
If your parents have oily skin, then your skin is likely to be oily and your pores are enlarged. The climate (in hot climates, the process of sebum secretion intensifies), gender differences (men have oily skin, larger pores), age (loss of skin elasticity leads to enlargement of pores), – explains the medical expert of the Vichy brand Ekaterina Turubara.
According to Ekaterina Lazakovich, over time, the pores become more visible on our face. This is due to a decrease in the production of collagen, a protein that is the backbone of our skin.
How to visually make pores less visible?
Julia Krasnaya – dermatovenerologist-cosmetologist, candidate of medical sciences from the clinic GEN87:
First you need to understand the cause of enlarged pores. If the reason is an increased activity of the sebaceous glands, chemical or carbon peels, photodynamic therapy and home care with acids or enzymes are an excellent solution. If it’s all about dehydration (dehydration), procedures aimed at moisturizing will cope – injection (biorevitalization) or non-injection (PRXT). With a decrease in skin elasticity, too dense top layer, laser resurfacing works great.
Many experts recommend that you exfoliate your skin well and apply sunscreen regularly.
Salicylic acid acts differently on the skin than alpha hydroxy acids such as glycolic acid and lactic acid.Salicylic acid is soluble in oil, which means it is able to penetrate into the pores, gently pushing out dead cells, bacteria, sebum and any impurities that clog the pores. By removing this “debris” from your pores, they will look smaller, – explains Dr. Sobel. Exfoliate your skin one to three times a week if your skin is not sensitive or reddens. Choose a gel, mask, or lotion that contains alpha hydroxy acids, retinol, or fruit enzymes. If you have not only enlarged pores but also acne prone, opt for salicylic acid lotion instead,
, says Patricia Farris, a Louisiana-based dermatologist.
Products containing sebum-regulating and mattifying ingredients will help to narrow pores. Substances with a sebum-regulating effect include: zinc salts, derivatives of vitamin A, linoleic acid, niacinamide, azelaic acid, salicylic and lipohydroxy acids, some plant extracts (sabal, argan oil, pumpkin, sesame, etc.). The matting effect is achieved by the adsorption of sebum on the skin surface due to the following components: kaolin, talc, zinc oxide, starch derivatives.Sebum-regulating and matting properties are possessed by means intended for cleansing, toning the skin and care creams, scrubs and masks, advises Alexander Prokofiev
What are the key ingredients to look for in skincare?
These beauty products most often contain retinoids or retinol (pure vitamin A) and should be applied exclusively in the evening. These ingredients are able to increase epidermal metabolism and stimulate collagen production.
They effectively exfoliate dead skin cells, while collagen helps the skin look firmer, thereby minimizing the appearance of enlarged pores.
The key to making pores appear smaller is clear skin. When caring for skin with enlarged pores, you need to wash your face twice a day, remove sebum residues so that the skin breathes and the pores are not clogged. During the day, it is best to use non-comedogenic moisturizers (that is, they do not contain substances that cause clogging of pores) and cosmetics.
Always wash your face before bed with a mild cleanser to prevent pore clogging. Get in the habit of cleansing your skin before and after exercising at the gym, as sweat can carry cosmetics into the pore holes, where they settle and thereby stretch them, says Heidi Walldorf, a New York-based dermatologist.
Ingredients such as alpha and beta hydroxy acids, kaolin clay and the organic compound benzoyl peroxide can also make pores cleaner and therefore smaller.
Which foods should you avoid?
Dr. Sobel suggests avoiding heavy-textured products (no petroleum jelly or mineral oils) and looking for non-comedogenic beauty products. He advises against using beauty products with emulsifiers (a substance used in creams and lotions for mixing water with oils) such as lanolin, cetyl acetate, myristyl myristate, isopropyl linoleate, and lauric acid.
People with problem skin are not recommended to use products with a high content of natural (cocoa butter or coconut oil) or mineral (petroleum jelly, paraffin) oils.As a tinting agent, it is better to choose a loose powder with mineral pigments, replacing it with a foundation, – says Ekaterina Turubara.
It is undesirable to use alcohol-containing products, they can severely dry out the skin, and then the sebaceous glands are activated and produce even more sebum, thereby expanding the pores.
What procedures can help?
Sobel says Fraxel Re: store Dual Repair 1550 and Clear + Brilliant are some of the best treatments available to help minimize the appearance of pores. They aim to restore the skin’s surface and increase collagen production. The treatments are also great for treating scars, blemishes and fine lines around the eyes.
Lasers are a fantastic solution to the problem of enlarged pores. Laser Genesis is much softer than Fraxel, it stimulates the deepest layers of the skin, smoothes it, while you get the result, both from retinol and the effects of acids combined, without any hassle.Of course, this is expensive (about $ 300 per session and you will need at least three treatments), so be sure to check with a dermatologist to determine which treatment is best for your skin … and your wallet, – says Dr. Rachel Nazarian …
Eteri Kenkadze – dermatovenerologist, INHYPE salon:
If the expansion of the pores is provoked by their pollution, first of all it is worth resorting to professional cleaning in the beautician’s office (in no case, do not press anything yourself).Procedures designed for deep moisturizing of the skin, both injectable and non-injectable, will also help, one of which is non-injection mesotherapy on the Dermadrop device, which helps us prevent overdrying of the skin. My patients loved the PRXT-33 procedure. She received the unspoken name “Live Photoshop”. The effect is noticeable after 7-10 procedures.
Hardware ultrasonic cleaning of the face will also be useful. Under the action of ultrasound, the upper keratinized layer of cells is exfoliated, the pores are cleansed, the skin becomes smooth. In addition, the ultrasound therapy on the SKIN-Master device reduces skin oiliness and prevents inflammation.
Under the action of ultrasound, the upper stratum corneum is exfoliated, the pores are cleansed, and the skin becomes smoother. In addition, ultrasound therapy reduces the oiliness of the skin and prevents the formation of new foci of inflammation.
Chemical peels cannot resize your pores, but they can make them less visible. Chemical peels are most often used to remove the top layer of the skin and improve its texture. They can be done at home, but it’s safer to leave it to a dermatologist.
In cases where you cannot cope on your own and all sparing methods have been tried, having weighed all the pros and cons, it is worth resorting to laser resurfacing. Its principle is that, penetrating inside, the laser removes the old skin in fractions, giving the young the opportunity to take its place. Thus, the natural recovery process begins and collagen synthesis is activated.
