Bangkok’s Best Five-Star Hotel Spas

Mandarin Oriental

If one city in the world boasts a reputation for massage, it’s Bangkok. One starts to think half the population is employed in the industry after walking a few sois lined with dozens of treatment joints, both legit and, well, not so. But for those eager to get off the street and into the hands of trained professionals in some of the world’s most beautiful spaces, booking at a 5-star hotel is the way to go. Here are four properties in Bangkok that deliver the therapy you need in the setting you desire.

Mandarin Oriental

The Oriental Spa at Mandarin Oriental Bangkok

A heritage hotel and institution that every visitor to Bangkok should experience, the Mandarin Oriental also boasts one of the city’s most transporting spas. Getting there is half the fun. Hop on the free ferry that shuttles guests across the Chao Phraya river to the property’s extension. The grounds include a restaurant, gym and the serene spa set in a century-old teakwood house. Upon entry, you’ll be greeted by charming staff who swap your shoes for slippers and lead you through the wooden entryway to the dressing room. Slip on a silky robe and meet your therapist in the tranquil treatment room. Treatments range from facials, Ayurvedic treatments, to a range of massages from Thai, Balinese and Swedish.

• Treatment to book: Oriental Essence. This 90-minute massage combines deep tissue work with Thai stretches and Swedish strokes, followed by application of warm compresses filled with Thai herbs intended to release muscle tension. It’s a heavenly experience that passes far too fast.

Park Hyatt

Panpuri Organic Spa at Park Hyatt Bangkok

Set within the architectural marvel of the Park Hyatt, towers twisted into a lucky figure 8, is the PAÑPURI ORGANIC SPA. Don’t let the diminutive reception area fool you. Space was lent to treatment rooms instead of the lobby. Talented therapists perform soothing facials and massages in expansive rooms and suites replete with shower, bathroom, and dressing area. If you’re prone to need the bathroom during longer sessions, you can slip off the table and retreat swiftly to your water closet, in private. The post-therapy relaxation area looks out upon the city from behind the soundproof confines of 11th floor glass. Subtle décor of beige marble with fresh floral accents contributes to the relaxing vibe.

• Treatment to book: Signature Equilibrium Therapy with Hot Oil and Thai Herbal Compress. The effort begins with a foot soak and scrub. In between deep tissue pulls and pushes, the therapist applies warm herbs including ginger and lemongrass, to tense muscles.

The Siam

The Opium Spa at The Siam

Set inside one of the city’s most striking hotels, the Opium Spa echoes the elegant art deco sensibility of the property at large. The Siam, a graceful oasis of indoor/outdoor living, is adorned with the owner’s antiques, pieces grouped by theme as well as interspersed throughout as little surprises for guests to discover, the spa included. The spa’s double-height setting references genteel times; indeed, each appointment begins with a cool, lemongrass scented towel and cup of tea in the hushed waiting area. Therapists employ Sodashi products in facials and massages. A Sanskrit word, Sodashi translates to ‘wholeness, purity, and radiance’, meant to encapsulate the chemical-free nature of the products. A wellness extension of the spa menu includes private sessions led in meditation, yoga, tai chi and even muay thai.

• Treatment to Book: Muay Thai Massage. Based on the ancient art of kickboxing, this massage suggests a furious trammeling of the muscles, but is in fact, far gentler than imagined. Though, it’s still intended for unsorting the deepest of kinks and knots through slow strokes and firm pressure.

Anantara Hotels

Anantara Spa at Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel

The Anantara brand has long been known for their incredible spa offering. Whether on the shores of Sri Lanka or amidst the bustle of Bangkok, a trip to Anantara will always transport both mind and body. In contrast to many other high-end hotel spas, Anantara isn’t afraid to exploit color, texture and detail to create spaces full of warmth and interest. The spa at the Siam Bangkok Hotel is a perfect example: a haven of gold gauze, pink cushions, and fuchsia orchids, hues and textiles work in visual tandem to relax guests before entering the treatment room. A wide range of options are available, from facials, massage to Ayurvedic therapies.

• Treatment to Book: Siam 2482. A 90-minute indulgence that integrates healing traditions from a cluster of southeast Asian countries: Thailand, Myanmar, Laos and China. Using a bamboo stick for massage, the therapist stimulates circulation, followed by stretching and pressure point techniques to release muscles and tension. Herbal compresses and oil massage complete the quartet of techniques. To seal the result, a mindfulness ritual with gold leaf.

8 Best Bangkok Massage Places and Spas (Updated 2020)

Like many tourists, one of my favourite activities in Bangkok is going for a relaxing massage. This city is renowned for its affordable and high-quality massages. Based on my own experiences, I have created a list of 8 great places for massage and spa in Bangkok below, categorised by budget. Sabai Sabai..

1. Number One Massage

Number One Massage is a famous street-side massage parlour in Pratunam that offers great massages at very affordable prices.

In fact, this is the place that introduced me to the world of Thai Massage many years ago. I like coming here for massages because the masseuses use a lot of strength in their rubs and are always able to accurately target the painful knots and tensions in my muscles.

The massages come with a free “hot stone” treatment where they press the stone on various parts of my body. I’m not really sure about this treatment’s benefits but it does feel pretty good.

Of course, the thing about street-side massage places is that the massage quality really depends on the masseuse you get. You can only hope that you don’t end up with a bad masseuse.

However, so far I’ve always had great experiences at Number One Massage. Here’s a tip: some of my best massages here were given by middle-aged impassive female masseuses.

Note that there are no private rooms and the massage beds are separated by curtains, so you do not get 100% privacy. It’s not an issue for me but ladies might feel slightly uncomfortable.

The prices are cheap, though inevitably they have increased slightly over the years.

1-Hour Thai Massage: THB250
1-Hour Foot Massage: THB250
See full price list above

How to Book
By walk-in or phone reservation (+66 2653 9967)

Number One Massage
Directions: 5-minute walk from Platinum Mall
Address: Soi 15 Phetchaburi Rd, Thanon Phaya Thai, Ratchathewi, Bangkok 10400
Opening Hours: Daily 9.30am to 12am

2. Chang Foot Massage

Second floor

Chang Foot Massage is a well-known street-side massage parlour located just steps away from Siam BTS Station. Don’t be confused by the name; it offers various other massage services and not just foot massage.

The wife and I usually come here for a quick Thai or foot massage after shopping in the bustling Siam district.

I have visited this massage parlour several times and find the standard of the Thai massages to be quite decent.

That said, I feel that the masseuses are not as good as the ones at Number One Massage, because they do not use as much strength in their rubs.

I only had one poor experience here before: during a one-hour foot massage it felt like the masseuse was just running her hands over my feet instead of massaging them.

I like the privacy that the massage parlour provides, by completely separating the massage beds with solid wooden partitions. There is also a small compartment beside the massage bed to store personal belongings.

3. Health Land

Health Land is a famous massage parlour chain in Bangkok that is very popular with tourists.

4. Love Massage

Friendly staff

This is the first floor. The massage beds on the second floor offer more privacy

Love Massage is another street-side massage parlour in Pratunam. I went to check it out on the recommendation of a friend, and I was not disappointed.

Similar to Number One Massage, the masseuses give very strong rubs. I came here for a one-hour Thai massage after a long day of exploring Bangkok, and it felt really good to have the female masseuse giving my sore body a deep massage.

The second floor is quiet and peaceful, but the massage beds are separated by curtains only so you do not get complete privacy.

Notwithstanding the shop’s name, based on my own experience it is not a dodgy establishment with “happy endings”.

5. Let’s Relax Spa (Siam Square One)

Let’s Relax Spa is a Thai spa empire with dozens of branches across Thailand. There are also overseas outlets in Cambodia, China, and Myanmar.

We like coming to this spa because it lets us enjoy a more upscale massage experience without breaking the bank.

The wife and I visited the branch at Siam Square One mall, and were duly impressed by the classy and serene ambience of the outlet.

We both went for the one-hour Aromatherapy Oil Massage (THB1150 on Klook), and were given a spacious couple room with shower.

Both our masseuses were well-groomed and professional, and we enjoyed the relaxing treatment very much. We were also served delicious mango sticky rice after the massage.

However, note that this branch is extremely popular so you will need to book your appointment at least one day in advance to secure a spot. Phone reservations are not accepted.

The wife and I had a fantastic spa experience here. First, we went to the large onsen (gender-separated), which features five pools filled with mineral-rich spring water.

After that, I went for my two-hour Thai massage while the wife went for a two-hour Aroma Oil Massage and Scrub (separate rooms).

You can buy your onsen package from Klook to get a cheaper price (THB620 instead of THB700).

7. Breeze Spa (Amari Watergate Bangkok)

Breeze Spa is a luxury spa centre chain with various branches across Thailand and Asia. We visited the Amari Watergate Bangkok branch, which is located on the 8th floor beside the swimming pool.

I liked the soothing vibe of the spa, which is decorated with elegant furnishings and pastel colours to set up the perfect mood for a relaxing pampering session.

Before the spa, we went through a brief consultation to let the therapists understand our current physical and mental states.

The wife and I both chose the signature “Rejuvenated Mood Massage” (THB2200), an aromatherapy oil massage that is supposed to remove “toxins built up from stress, pollution and a busy life”. Our masseuses were very professional and we enjoyed the oil massage very much.

After that, we continued with the Honey Oatmeal Scrub (THB2000), which was a really enjoyable session too.

I would recommend Breeze Spa if you are looking for a luxurious spa experience that is not too exorbitantly priced.

The highlight of the spa is their modern public onsen, which costs THB750 for an all-day pass. However, you can buy the pass from Klook at a lower price of THB650.

The wife and I went for the “Panpuri Signature Pure Relaxation Ritual” couple package (THB9,900), a 3-hour spa treatment that offers private onsen, body scrub, body massage, and foot massage.

This was certainly a wonderful and luxurious pampering session, though it also came with a very expensive price tag.

90,000 Top 20 Thai Massage Places in Bangkok

Whether you’re shopping at Sukhumvit or staying at one of the city’s luxury resorts, you’ll be close to a spa or massage studio at Bangkok .

What is Thai massage?

Thai massage is a traditional therapeutic system based on Ayurvedic principles that originated in India. It uses acupressure and yoga assisted postures to align the energy lines of the body. The therapist usually starts with the feet and moves upward, rhythmically pressing on specific points on the body. It also guides the client through a series of stretches and fluid movements to relieve both physical and mental stress. Each session can be tailored to the needs of the client. Various salons and spas often offer their own unique traditional massage options.

What to Expect During Thai Massage

When you enter the massage parlor, you can choose from a menu of treatments that usually include traditional Thai massage, foot massage and a range of complementary therapies.A basic massage usually takes about an hour, although many locations also offer longer or shorter options. It is recommended that you wear comfortable and loose clothing so that you can easily perform the stretches and movements required during the session. Some salons may even offer you a traditional dressing up outfit.

Tipping at massage parlors in Bangkok

In massage parlors Bangkok it is customary to leave a tip to the massage therapist. How much to leave depends a lot on the location of the salon and the type of service provided. The recommended amount for small salons is at least 100 baht for half an hour. For good service at the spa, you must tip at least 10% of the total cost of the massage. Tips are given in cash directly to the hands of the massage therapist.

Jolly Suites & Spa 2.5 Bangkok Thailand: reviews, descriptions, photos, reservations

Advantages. Good day. I want to share my impressions of the rest in Dubai, on Fujairah Dibba district. Our family rested this year at the Radisson Blu hotel, this is a funky place for families with children, there are no noisy companies, funny animation entertainment, but there is something that is not in any hotel, there is a SOUL ‘. The staff of this place is very friendly, helpful. During the week spent at this hotel, we got to know the hotel employees better and became almost a family. All workers here are gathered from different parts of the world, there are Egyptians, Indians, Ukrainians, Uzbeks, African Americans, but this difference between them is imperceptible, they are like one big friendly family. I want to express my deep gratitude to the staff of the restaurant, especially to the chefs, respect, they cook very tasty, varied and for every taste. I also want to mention Himanshu, Sheriff, Amira, Kuldeep, Yvonne these guys work in the restaurant hall, just look in their direction, they are right there next to you and are interested in how they can help, this is very cool.I also want to note the hotel guide Bella, not only is she a pretty girl, she is also a professional in her field (by the way, her excursions are cheaper, and generally cool, I recommend jeep safaris, an excursion to Dubai), unforgettable and very beautiful. I also want to note the girl Lisa, at the reception, at any time she will give you an answer to the question which interests you. The photographer at the Ahmad Hotel is a comprehensively developed and competent person, he is very professional and sincere in choosing a photo shoot, he has the best photos.I want to note the boys who do the cleaning in the room, well done, cleanliness and order, and every day, class, clean towels, a change of bed and a pleasant smell in the room, very grateful to this. I also want to note the guys who work at the pool bar are Amr, Nagz and Islamjon, they are great, they will talk, ask what you want, make the same cocktail as you want, in general, a fairy tale. There is also Misha, he is from Egypt, takes people on an excursion to Turtle Island, a good guy, sympathetic, but not intrusive.E
