The 7 Best Layering Tank Tops

Much like a white cotton T-shirt or the perfect pair of jeans, the best layering tank tops are worth having in multiples. They might not be the most thrilling items to shop for, but having your basics covered will pay dividends when you no longer have to rummage through your hamper looking for that one tank you always need. There’s something to be said for having these everyday essentials covered, especially when you find some really good ones worth stocking up on.

For such a simple top, there are, surprisingly, dozens of options out there. The hallmarks of a great layering tank include a close fit without any thick seams to finish the armscye or hem so they disappear under cardigans and shirts, but some will function better as strictly a base layer while others are pretty enough to wear on their own.

A breathable cotton tank top — in varying degrees of sheerness — is the backbone of any dresser drawer whether it has spaghetti straps or wider ones that will cover a bra. And if you want to forgo the tyranny of underwires (or prefer extra support for sleeping) a cotton tank top with a shelf bra might be a good solution.

Expanding beyond the basics, if you’re always at the gym you may prefer a layering top you can also workout in — a racerback cut gives you extra range of motion and won’t slip off a shoulder in the middle of your overhead press. Buy those in a soft, synthetic knit that won’t absorb sweat like cotton does. For a layering tank top you intend to dress up, though, nothing beats silk. It’s gorgeous all on its own and won’t bunch under sweaters. In a dainty camisole, the luxury fabric is pleasantly affordable.

The biggest luxury, however, is the peace of mind that comes with knowing you have the essentials in line. With that in mind, these are seven basic layers that are truly worth buying in multiples.

1

A Budget-Friendly Set Of Tank Tops Literally Made For Layering

These basic tank tops feature a slim fit and delicate seams in a smooth cotton-modal-spandex knit, without a trace of ribbing, for a finished look. They have some extra length that’s easy to tuck in (or not) and a gentle scoop neck that’s open — not plunging. Wear one with distressed denim on the weekend, and you’ll still have another in reserve when it’s time for business casual. “They’re perfect. I bought for layering under work tops, but they are SO comfortable, that I find myself wearing them to sleep or lounging around the house,” one Amazon fan noted. Prefer a cami with delicate straps? The four-pack of Amazon Essentials layering camisole is also very well-reviewed.

2

This PlusSize Tank Top In 100% Cotton

Backed by more than 3,000 perfect five-star reviews, this 100% cotton tank top has a similarly smooth weave to the tank set above, and it has delicately finished seams to slip under pieces. Cut to skim the body, its shirttail hem can be worn with leggings but isn’t too long to tuck into pants. “I happily recommend this as a layering piece,” a shopper reported. “I wanted something to wear under semi-sheer blouses and this has a scooped neckline that covers bra straps well, as do the shoulders.” The same shopper called out the thick knit, noting it was “actually heavier than I expected for a tank in this price range…it tucks in nicely but won’t ride up and come untucked.

3

A Pure Mulberry Silk Camisole That Feels So Luxe

A silk camisole seems like a luxe indulgence but it’s incredibly multipurpose. The natural fiber is hypoallergenic and temperature-regulating, not to mention endlessly versatile: It looks elegant under a blazer and also makes a good base layer for outdoor activities. This particular camisole is made from top-tier 6A mulberry silk in a 19-momme weight to guarantee quality, and it’s thick enough to survive years of wear. “I am falling in love with this camisole—I’ve already worn it 3 days in a row,” one fan gushed. “I’ve worn it under a fitted cashmere sweater, a looser merino sweater, and a casual cotton shirt…I’ve had no problems with bunching. […] It feels divine against your body, plus it looks nice.” On a budget or looking for a different size? This multi-pack of silk-blend camis breaks down to about $10 each.

4

A Stretchy Cami With A Built-In Bra

The ultimate layering tank just might be one this one from Hanes: it eliminates the need for even a bra, perfect for days you can’t be bothered. There’s a bit of spandex to the basic cotton camisole, with adjustable straps and a tag-less design, so it’s seriously comfortable to wear all day. The built-in shelf bra has a wide — but not tight — elastic band on the bottom that shoppers reported offered decent support across the spectrum, although personal mileage may vary. “They’re perfect for wearing under sweaters in the fall and winter and for layering in the spring and summer. So comfy! I’m even sleeping in them as well,” a fan noted of their versatility.

  • Available sizes: Small – XX-Large

5

A Sheer Layering Cami With Soft Lace Trim

This whisper-weight camisole is made from 100% cotton for a barely-there layer that will also be your friend in hot weather. The ultra-thin knit features a subtle and delicate cutout pattern for enhanced breathability — although it might be too sheer for some — and shoppers were pleased to report that the lace trim didn’t irritate sensitive skin. “This cotton cami is great and I love it. Soft and stretchy but not so much that it loses its shape. Cute lace trim around the top for a feminine touch. Straps are stretchy elastic so some what adjustable and material is a peek a boo pattern. Cool and comfortable for my humid Florida weather,” as one reviewer testified. Available in both tank and camisole styles, you can pick the fit that’s right for you. Just make sure to let this one air dry so you don’t risk compromising the airy fabric. If you want a lace-trimmed cotton cami with a little extra length, this one has over 6,000 ratings.

A Ribbed Racerback Tank You Can Even Workout In

This ribbed layering tank top goes from the yoga mat to errands without missing a beat. The racerback cut gives you full range of motion, and a bit of extra length at the hip helps keeps you covered while in motion. The poly-spandex blend won’t absorb sweat like a cotton tank, and it feels silky enough to sleep in, too. “I wear these under my cycling jerseys as a base layer and love them,” one shopper confirmed. “The tags are completely removable, fit is true to size, and the quality has withstood multiple washes.” Since they tend to fit snugly, sizing up is recommended by the brand if you prefer a bit more ease in your tops.

  • Available colors: 10
  • Available sizes: X-Small – 3X-Large

7

An Extra-Long Ruched Tank Fans Call “Perfect” For Leggings

There’s plenty of length on this tank top without sacrificing shape. It has a close fit and open, V-neckline with ruching on the sides that gives you some wiggle room to adjust the hem up or down. The floaty rayon blend will feel lightweight and soft, although it needs to be hand-washed to prevent accidental shrinkage. “Buy it, you won’t be disappointed! I just ordered two more,” one reviewer confessed, adding, “This tank is long so it’s great to wear with leggings. Can be layered or worn as it. You can bunch it up so it’s not so long and it still looks great. It is also extremely comfortable! Definitely a great purchase.”

The Nordstrom Tank Top Every Hollywood Actress Owns

No seams or lines under anything you wear.

It all started with a simple pair of pants. We posted about this suspiciously flattering pair a little while back and the response was so enthusiastic, it got us thinking: Why not sniff out the most flattering things across a bevy of categories, from the most skin-enhancing light bulb to the brightening eye drops to the shapewear designed for all sizes? Welcome to Flattering Week on the Strategist.

A properly stocked closet for a female actor on a TV show always includes the following: a pair of seamless Commando underwear, a pair of Uggs for wearing between long takes in high heels, and an assortment of these brilliant Nordstrom lingerie tank tops.

I know — I wish I could report that the very best tank tops were something more exciting or indie, but these super-soft nylon and spandex tanks from the Seattle department store are the single most useful item a woman can have in her wardrobe. They are an incredible layering piece that manages to smooth out every bulge, creating a totally sleek line under clothes. The straps are also wide enough to completely hide your bra straps (while also keeping them from sliding down your shoulders). If you’ve ever picked up one of those see-through tops currently ruling the racks of department stores and thought, “What the hell am I supposed to wear underneath a transparent shirt like this,” this tank top is your answer.

As a Hollywood costume designer, I put them on every single actress I dress. Since this tank top has absolutely no seams, it doesn’t create extra lumps under thin garments, like a cashmere-blend sweater. It’s also a godsend for clothes with strange cutouts or open-weave sweaters that would otherwise expose your bra to the whole world. The shirt is a perfect length: not so long so that it hangs out beneath shirts, but not so short that your guts are left exposed (it comes in plus sizes, too). They are totally tagless — and one side is slightly lower than the other, so you can flip it around based on the neckline of whatever garment you are wearing it with. It comes in a rainbow of fun colors (not just your basic boring black and white), and smooths perfectly without the riding up, digging in, and general discomfort that comes with a shapewear tank top.

Nordstrom’s sizing chart says they run small (and to order one size up), but I very much disagree. These tanks aren’t meant to be loose and flowing — the whole point of them is to create a comfortable “second skin” that your clothes can lie nicely upon. I buy them in doubles (and sometimes even in triples), since my actors constantly steal them. When women with Oscars on their shelves snag things from the costume department, you know they’re good.

90,000 “Tanks pressed and fired at everything.” Eyewitnesses and participants in the 1990 events in Baku recall “Black January”

“Hundreds of thousands of people walked through the center of the city, accompanying the coffins with the dead. They were buried in the Upland Park, which offers the most beautiful view of the city and the sea. Red carnations were thrown on fresh graves in armfuls. Since then, these are funeral flowers for Azerbaijanis.” This is how a resident of Baku Emilia Rahimova recalls the ending of the tragedy that took place in the city 30 years ago.

On the night of January 20, 1990, several armored units of the Soviet army entered Baku to take control of the situation. According to official data, 133 people were killed then, 611 were injured, and five more were missing. The date January 20, 1990 is considered one of the greatest tragedies of modern Azerbaijan and was named “Black January”.

Bloody denouement

That night became a kind of culmination of months of aggravated situation both in Baku and throughout Azerbaijan. This happened against the backdrop of the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, crowds of refugees, as well as growing discontent with the central government, which did not resolve the conflict.

In 1988, the National Democratic Movement “People’s Front” was created in Azerbaijan. Human rights defenders Leyla and Arif Yunusy were one of its founders. According to Leyla, initially the movement aimed not at the withdrawal of Azerbaijan from the Soviet Union, but at the democratization of the system. The question of independence arose after January 1990, when it became clear that the democratization of the USSR was impossible.

At the end of 1989, the situation in Baku was tense. On the main square of the city, almost every day, thousands of rallies gathered, barricades were erected, demands for the resignation of the authorities and secession from the USSR sounded louder until the night of January 20, 1990, they were drowned out by shots.

Leyla Yunus speaks at the rally

“After the bloody expulsion of Armenians from Baku, the ground was prepared for a final showdown between Moscow and the Popular Front. Even during the pogroms, on January 14, a delegation from the Politburo of the Central Committee headed by Gorbachev’s close political associate Yevgeny Primakov arrived in Baku. KPSS to try to take control of the situation. The Minister of Defense of the USSR Dmitry Yazov also flew in to personally take command of the thousands-strong army contingent stationed in the barracks on the outskirts of the city. It was decided to introduce a state of emergency in Nagorno-Karabakh, the border regions of Azerbaijan and Armenia, and in the city of Ganja – but for some reason not in Baku itself, “writes journalist Thomas de Waal in his book” Black Garden “about Nagorno-Karabakh.

Emergency the position and curfew were imposed in Baku at midnight on 20 January. However, most of the residents found out about this only in the morning, since the TV air was turned off.

“The fact that the authorities did not impose a state of emergency in order to stop the Armenian pogroms, but did it after the Armenians were gone in the city, speaks either of their cynicism, or of incompetence, or of both together”, – de Waal believes.

Many of those killed that night had nothing to do with the protests. These are those who provided assistance to the wounded, bystanders and residents of neighboring houses.

A bus fired upon by the Soviet military, January 21, 1990, Baku

Even today, 30 years later, much remains unclear and debates continue about what exactly led to the tragedy and who is to blame for it. The Soviet authorities claimed that troops entered the city to stop the riots. However, many eyewitnesses of those events say that the army behaved too brutally.

Present Tense tried to restore the fragments of January 1990 through the eyes of the protesters, as well as those who until recently did not understand what was happening.

The day before: “amazing time”

One of the most controversial moments of the events of January – how seriously the members of the popular movement were armed. USSR Defense Minister Dmitry Yazov claimed that among them there were 40 thousand militants armed with automatic weapons. However, the eyewitnesses interviewed by us claim that they did not see weapons there.

Photographer Sanan Aleskerov was then 34 years old: “I spent almost two days at the rallies on the eve of January 20, but I did not see a single armed man.

Sanan Aleskerov today

“It was an amazing time. I went to rallies because I believed that this was the beginning of democracy, a new state. I never loved the USSR and wanted changes. And it was also a period of extraordinary unity of the people: men and women, old and young, intellectuals and workers … I have never seen such cohesion, such unity, such an attitude towards each other among the residents of Azerbaijan – neither before nor after. True, at these rallies I practically did not take pictures – I tried a couple of times, but they took my camera and smashed it.People were afraid because they knew that KGB agents were walking in the crowd disguised as journalists or simply photographers, filming the rally participants. ” At the technical school, such a cell appeared on the initiative of Zamina Dzhabbarova. She was 42 years old, she taught Russian language and literature at the technical school and was a member of the first composition of the Popular Front.

Zamina Dzhabbarova (late 80s)

” so that I gather all my students and take them to the Salyan barracks, because troops were expected to enter at night. But I flatly refused, sent all the students home and warned my parents by phone not to let them go anywhere. And she herself had already gone to the barracks. It was evening, several dozen people were sitting around the fires. Neymat Panahov, one of the then leaders of the national movement, arrived. He promised that a truck with weapons would arrive soon. He promised and left. But I did not see a single armed man that night, “Zamina recalls.

One of those who sat by the fire at the time, waiting for tanks, was 22-year-old Shahbaz Khuduoglu, who studied at the theater department of the Institute of Arts.

Shahbaz Khuduoglu (early 90s) Shahbaz Khuduoglu (today)

“I was an active student. Every day I went to various events organized by the popular movement, participated in rallies, processions, protests, and all kinds of meetings. people gathered together and shouted “Freedom!”, “Independence”, you got goosebumps. ”

Evening: broken TV

Rumors that tanks would enter the city had been circulating for several days. But even the members of the popular movement themselves did not know exactly where the invasion might come from. The majority of Baku residents did not know what was happening at all.

Tatyana Kovaleva was 11 years old in 1990. Her family lived in the center of Baku. On January 19, Tatyana’s father had to go on a long business trip.

Tatiana Kovaleva (1990)

“Dad was a radio operator, served in the merchant navy. On the evening of January 19, he was going to leave by train for Odessa and sail from there. But before that he was going to fix our broken TV. Dad put it in the middle of the room, took it apart, twisted, collected, turned on … The TV does not work.Again, disassembled, twisted, assembled. Does not work. And so several times. Mom screamed: here, they say, you can’t fix one thing, you will leave now, and we will be left without a TV for several months. A scandal broke out. Dad took his suitcase and went to the station, almost slamming the door. The disassembled TV remained standing in the middle of the room. I screwed it back, at random. Then we didn’t know that it was not my father’s fault that the TV set didn’t work. ”

In the evening of January 19, TV stopped working in Baku.As it turned out later, a power unit was blown up in the television center. Who blew it up is also still unclear. According to the most widespread version, it was done either by the military or special services.

Night: tanks in the city

Troops entered the city from several directions, blocking the airport and the bay. The main vector of movement of the military columns fell on the territory leading from the northern outskirts to the center: several avenues, Salyan barracks and the vicinity of the metro station, which will later be called “January 20”.(Previously, this station was named in honor of the 11th Red Army, which played a major role in the establishment of Soviet power in Azerbaijan.)

“On the night of January 20, I woke up from the sounds of cannonade,” recalls Emilia Rahimova. Then she was 47 years old, she worked as the head of a department in a children’s clinic and lived with her mother and little daughter close to the place where everything happened.

Emilia Ragimova (late 80s)

“They were shooting very close, but the apartment windows did not look out onto the street, but into the courtyard, so I could not see anything, only heard the noise of the voices of neighbors who ran out.It was very scary, although I guessed or felt that something like this would happen. For several days, people were walking around the courtyards and through the loudspeaker they called the youth to go to the rallies. All day on January 19, tension was in the air, “continues Emilia Rahimova.

” When the shooting began, a commotion arose in our yard. All the adults gathered in the apartment of a neighbor who had a radio, and the children, including my brother and me, were ordered to stay at home. I was not scared. Rather, somehow … “surly”. Of course, at that time I did not know such a word, but now I understand that it is most suitable for my feelings of that time. Probably, I have already had time to worry over all the previous weeks and months, when something happened in the city almost every day, “says Tatyana Kovaleva.

” Having spent a little time near the Salyan barracks, I returned home. And at midnight the sky outside the window was lit by flashes. The son woke up to the noise. “These are probably rocket launchers …” – I suggested. To which the son replied that he had recently returned from the army and could distinguish rocket launchers from tracer bullets, ”says Zamina Jabbarova.

“He got dressed and left, but it took me a few more minutes to realize: these are tracer bullets, and my son went under these bullets. I ran after him. We lived then not far from the barracks. I ran down the street until I saw him, standing by the side of the road. She called out, he turned around, and then we saw a tank coming at us. The hatch was open, a strange-looking man with long hair, more like a mercenary than an ordinary military man, was leaning out of it. , I wanted to throw myself at this tank, shouting: “Murderers! Fascists! “But my son pushed me into the roadside bushes and literally covered me with him, and then, when the danger was over, he took me home,” she recalls.

Live cartridges

“It was already about midnight when I saw tanks moving down the avenue from above,” recalls Shahbaz Khuduoglu, who was then near the Salyan barracks. – Shots were heard, but people around said that these were not live ammunition, that they just wanted to scare us. And we believed that it was so, that these were not real bullets. Because, in fact, we didn’t do anything like that there – we just gathered around the fire, unarmed, intending not to disperse at all costs ”.

But the cartridges turned out to be live: “The tanks fired at first high, much higher than our heads, and then lower and lower. The closer the tank, the lower the barrel, and now the bullets are already flying at the same level with us. Someone fell to the ground. Seeing this, the others began to run up the street, not realizing that in this way they were even more exposed to the bullets. Another man fell, now very close to me. He was wounded, I together with someone else dragged him to the side and threw it over the fence of a nearby hospital. And when they returned, they saw that several tanks were already crawling along the central avenues. “

Shahbaz says that he spent the rest of the night with his acquaintances on the side streets:” I was one step away from death. But I cannot say that I felt or was aware of it. There was no fear. Although there was no fantastic courage that would make me climb on the tanks. And another such moment: the sounds of shots heard from afar inspire much more fear than those that sound close. “

“Then I started to earn money after my studies and, having saved up money, bought myself a white raincoat. A luxurious thing for those times, a foreign cut,” Shahbaz recalls. “That night, this raincoat was on me. drenched in the blood of that wounded guy. ”

“Planned provocation”

Leila and Arif Yunus (1989)

Leila Yunus was then a 35-year-old employee of the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences, where her husband Arif also worked. In early January 1990, she withdrew from the Popular Front because of conflicts within it, which, according to her, changed the original course of the movement beyond recognition.Together with her husband, daughter and mother, Leila lived in an apartment, where on the night of January 20, a machine-gun fire shot through a window in the corridor.

Leila and Arif Yunus (our days)

“Our house was located in the center of Baku, opposite the building of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and they shot there so that our windows overlooking the street and the courtyard were broken,” recalls Leila. the city to personally see what was happening and tell the truth to the world media. He left, returned, left and returned all morning and all day on January 20. He told how tanks pressed and fired at everything, including ambulances. They shot at everyone, including children and the elderly. Even people who just stepped out onto the balcony were hit by the bullets. Arif said that some were even finished off. In the morning our home phone was torn off by calls from journalists from Europe, Russia, and the United States. A couple of days later, foreign journalists were already at our home. We collected the most reliable information in order to convey it to the world media and the world community. ” Russian and German languages.

“This was a planned provocative action of two independent forces inside and outside Azerbaijan, whose interests at that time coincided. On the one hand, representatives of the Aliyev clan clan system of government), who at any cost wanted to remove Abdulrahman Vezirov from the post of first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and return Heydar Aliyev to power. Azerbaijan: authoritarian “laundromat”

For 10 years, Ilham Aliyev, who became president in 2003, shortly before the death of his father Heydar Aliyev, has consistently strengthened his power in Azerbaijan.

On the other hand, there are opponents of Mikhail Gorbachev who wanted to compromise him. It must be remembered that the Baku massacre on January 20 was the bloodiest, but not the only case of suppression of the popular movement in the Soviet republics in those years. In April 1989, there was a massacre in Tbilisi, and then, in January 1991, in Vilnius, “says Leyla Yunus.

Morning: crimson sky and black city

“When dawn began, the sky was bloody crimson. I’m not exaggerating, I never saw such a red dawn in January. And the streets were black – black flags and ribbons everywhere, black clothes on people … And an indescribably oppressive atmosphere. Quiet, devastated, crushed city, recalls Emilia Rahimova morning on January 20 in Baku.

“My neighbor and I went to work together, she was my colleague. We walked on foot past the tanks on which soldiers with machine guns were sitting. The neighbor – a young emotional woman – kept trying to shout something sharp at them, to swear at them, I forcibly held her back. Then we only dimly knew what had happened. I learned the details when I arrived at work. I learned that, among others, they killed an admirer of one of the nurses and one of the “dads”, as they called the fathers of their patients. And the driver told how at night he was taking the head physician to the clinic literally under fire, like in a movie, “- says Emilia.

People gathered near the crushed car

On the morning of January 20, Shahbaz Khuduoglu with friends went to the city center:” On the way to us there were several cars crushed by tanks. And when we got to the center, to the Fountain Square, where the townspeople usually walk, they saw that the whole square was already “dressed” in black – on all the trees people had tied black shawls, ribbons, scarves, as if they had been prepared in advance. And the city itself – trees, buildings – seemed to sense what had happened, was overwhelmed with grief. “

” One of the neighbors had a teenage son, about sixteen years old. He did not come home that night, and no one knew where he was. The neighbor was sure that her son was killed, – Tatyana Kovaleva recalls. – But in the morning he came – alive, healthy and hungover. It turns out that he did not even know what had happened: he spent the whole night with friends in some video salon, drank and watched a movie. ”

People near the body of the deceased

Zamina Jabbarova, having learned about the many wounded, went to the hospital to donate blood : “But the doctors refused – they said that there was more than enough donor blood, many wanted to help the victims.”

“On the streets I saw pools of blood and carnations laid out around them,” she continues. – And in the center of the city there were tanks, but completely different people were sitting in them, not the ones at night. These were young guys with completely different faces, ordinary conscripts. They weren’t the ones who fired, I’m sure. “

Baku residents near the bombed car

” It so happened that, having spent almost two days at the rallies before, I was so exhausted that I slept at home all night from 19 to 20. When the shooting began, my father did not wake me up so that I would not go there. So I went out on the street in the morning of January 20, “says the photographer Sanan Aleskerov.

” Together with a few friends, we approached the then building of the Central Committee, and then a tank drove out to meet us.We rushed at him, began to shout something … The tank stopped. Nobody touched us, but there was no point in going further, – he says. – I went home, already alone, through the empty streets. And already almost on the way to the house, I again “met” a tank driving out from around the corner. And then I got scared. Never in my life have I been so afraid as then. When there are several of you, nothing is scary – neither rush across the tank, nor even die. But when you are alone, and the muzzle is looking directly at you … I ran into the first courtyard that came across, flew up to the very last floor and waited there until the tank left. “

Soviet infantry fighting vehicle and soldiers of internal troops on the streets of Baku

Then: the park turned into a cemetery

“In the evening of January 20, Dad returned,” says Tatyana Kovaleva. “He said that he could not get on the train and spent the night and almost the whole day at the train station. He told what was happening in the city. He ate, washed and this time still left for Odessa. And we did not leave the house for almost a week, eating canned vegetables, since there was a large supply at home. Already in the mid-90s. I came to visit new acquaintances who live in the microdistrict, not far from the very place from which the tanks entered. And for the first time with my own eyes I saw the traces of bullets on the walls of the Khrushchev. Acquaintances said that two of their neighbors died without even going outside. They just went to the window, and they were hit by bullets. “

Funeral of those killed in Baku, January 28, 1990

In the evening of January 20, photographer Sanan Aleskerov went to the hospital, where the wounded and the dead were brought:” There I managed to shoot, but on The next day, several people who introduced themselves as members of the Popular Front came to my studio and asked me to give them the tapes. They said that they should be sent to the West. I saw these people for the first time, but I believed them, gave them away, and still don’t know where to share those photos and what happened to them. Maybe they really sent them to the West. “

” Then we made sure that there was no army to protect us. There is an army ready to destroy us. The army in which we served suddenly turned against us. And it was already impossible to believe in such an army. But at the same time, after all that I had experienced, I did not fall into depression, I did not have any shock, “says Shahbaz Khuduoglu.

On January 22nd the television was on again, and the funeral of the victims was broadcast on it. They were buried in one of the main squares of the city, then still called Lenin Square, and now – Azadlig (Freedom) Square. A huge crowd passed through the entire center to the Upland Park, which that day turned into the Alley of Martyrs (martyrs in Azerbaijan are called those who died in battle or in the struggle for freedom).

“There were a lot of people, everything was in black, a very depressing picture, even when you see it on TV,” Emilia Rahimova continues.- The song “Ayrılıq” (“Parting”), which was then like the unspoken anthem of the popular movement, sounded in the background to this from the loudspeakers. This is a song from the 50s, beautiful, but I still associate it with those funerals. Like carnations, which I don’t like since then. “

” On the day of the funeral, I had no time for filming – I just couldn’t. I managed to take pictures only on the fortieth day, when people gathered again on the Martyrs’ Alley to commemorate the dead, as is customary in Islam. And these photographs are the only ones that have survived from those days, “says Sanan Aleskerov.

Rally in Baku, January 28, 1990

Many say that all these 40 days the whole city was in voluntary mourning. The men did not shave, in the courtyards they held a commemoration for the dead.

The investigation of the causes of the tragedy and the search for the perpetrators continued for several years.

It was carried out by the Prosecutor General’s Office of the USSR, and after the collapse of the Union – by the Prosecutor General’s Office of independent Azerbaijan. The Soviet prosecutor’s office did not reveal any corpus delicti in the actions of the military and closed the case. Several years later, the Azerbaijani prosecutor’s office resumed it and in 1994 declared guilty the then Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Azerbaijan SSR Ayaz Mutalibov (who a year later became the first president of Azerbaijan), the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Azerbaijan Abdul-Rahman Vezirov, Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR Yevgeny Primakov, President of the USSR Mikhail Gorbachev, USSR Defense Minister Dmitry Yazov, USSR KGB Chairman Vladimir Kryuchkov and several other Azerbaijani and Soviet officials. But these accusations remained only on paper – no one was convicted.

Emilia Rahimova is now retired and lives in the same house, near which a memorial to the victims of January 20 was erected.

Zamina Jabbarova is a working pensioner.

Tanya Kovaleva grew up and became an economist.

Shahbaz Khuduoglu heads the Qanun publishing house.

Sanan Aleskerov continues to take photographs.

Spouses Yunus continued their human rights activities already in independent Azerbaijan, until in 2014 they were imprisoned on charges of fraud, tax evasion, illegal business and falsification of documents. As a result of numerous protests of the international community, primarily the EU, the term was changed to a conditional one. In 2016, the couple emigrated to the Netherlands, where they live now. At the same time, in their homeland, the criminal case against them was not terminated.

30 years of the fall of communism in Europe. How it was

30 years ago, revolutions took place in the Warsaw Pact countries that led to the collapse of the communist regime in Europe and became a harbinger of the collapse of the USSR. We remember the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Velvet Revolution in Czechoslovakia and the overthrow of the Ceausescu regime in Romania. This is how it was

Sexual orientation can be determined by the length of the fingers

Women with different lengths of index and ring fingers are more prone to orientation changes, the researchers say …

Scientists measured the fingers of 18 pairs of identical twin women, one heterosexual and the other homosexual.

On average, lesbians had different lengths of index and ring fingers, which is a typically masculine trait, but only on the left hand.

In heterosexuals, the index and ring fingers are equal in length.

This may be due to the higher amounts of testosterone the baby receives in the womb, researchers from the University of Essex say.

Scientists also measured the fingers of 14 pairs of identical male twins, one of whom was heterosexual and the other gay. In this case, they did not find a connection between the length of the fingers and sexuality.

In women, the index and ring fingers are usually the same length.

Scientists believe that the proportions of the fingers are laid in the womb. The index finger grows due to the “male” sex hormone testosterone, the ring finger – due to the “female” estrogen.

Correct chemical balance results in normal proportions. In case of violation, wait for deviations.

Study author Tuzdy Watts from the Department of Psychology at the University of Essex said: “Since identical twins with the same genotype may have different sexual orientations, this is probably influenced by some other factors not related to genetics.”

“Research has shown that our sexual orientation is determined in the womb and depends on the amount of male hormone we receive, or how our bodies individually respond to this hormone.Children who have received high doses of testosterone are more likely to be bisexual or homosexual, “- said the researcher.

The results of the study were published by the Archives of Sexual Behavior.

Booked” Breakthrough “: the south of Russia will be strengthened with the latest T-90M tanks | Articles

The new divisions of the Southern Military District will be fully equipped with modern T-90 tanks, seriously increasing their number. According to Izvestia sources, the military department is also considering the possibility of then re-equipping these formations with the most advanced modification of the T-90M “Breakthrough” with enhanced firepower and armor … This will create a mobile group in the south of the country that can be quickly deployed to areas where threats will come from. Experts note that this step will be a response to NATO’s plans to strengthen ground forces in Europe.

Divisional plans

On the T-90 tank units and subunits of the 19th and 20th motorized rifle divisions of the Southern Military District (YuVO) will be fully re-equipped. A fundamental decision has already been made, sources in the Ministry of Defense told Izvestia. Also, the issue of equipping these divisions with the latest T-90M “Breakthrough” is under discussion.

According to the interlocutors of the publication, the motorized rifle divisions will have one separate tank battalion with an increased five-troop composition. Each of the three motorized rifle regiments of the formation will also have a smaller T-90 battalion. This will require additional large supplies of combat vehicles to the south of the country.

In April, the head of the defense department Sergei Shoigu said that the combat capabilities of the Southern Military District were being built up in connection with the attempts of the North Atlantic Alliance to oppose the normalization of the situation in a number of countries of the Caucasus and the Middle East.

Russia is closely monitoring the preparation and conduct of the Ukrainian-American exercises Sea Breeze with the involvement of NATO countries and is ready to respond to them if necessary in the interests of ensuring the security of the Russian Federation, said on Wednesday, June 2, the official representative of the defense department Igor Konashenkov. According to him, these maneuvers will train the transfer of ground forces and equipment and the conduct of the offensive in the coastal direction by the coalition group in cooperation with the amphibious assault force.

“The latest NATO exercises have shown that they set themselves the goal of restoring the ground grouping in Europe,” military expert Vladislav Shurygin told Izvestia. – But it is impossible to take it out of thin air. Therefore, we are constantly working on the transfer of military units to Europe from the continental territory of the United States and from other regions.

To counter new threats in the southern direction of Russia, additional forces are needed. All conflicts over the past 5-7 years have shown that the tank was and remains the optimal weapon, the expert believes. According to him, their powerful group both 50 years ago and today is our main striking trump card.

Post-Soviet generation

T-90 were adopted in 1992, after the collapse of the USSR. The Russian Ground Forces today have several hundred such vehicles, many of which are already deployed in the south. In total, more than a thousand units have been delivered to India, Iraq, Algeria, Azerbaijan and other countries. Several dozen were transferred to the Syrian army and were actively used in battles against terrorists and extremists.

The T-90 tank, regardless of the modification, is distinguished by high reliability and excellent security, which was shown by the fighting in Syria , – military expert Alexei Khlopotov told Izvestia. – There they were repeatedly under enemy fire, hit by modern American TOW-2 anti-tank missiles. At the same time, in practice, the vehicles showed good survival, even with damage, the crew most often remained alive.

The T-90M, which is now going to the troops, is a more advanced and balanced vehicle, surpassing the original version in almost all respects, the expert noted. The tank was first demonstrated back in 2011 as an export version of the T-90MS, then it was further modified to meet the requirements of the Russian military.

U T-90M radically strengthened the armor from shells and missiles. The vehicle received a redesigned turret with protection against cumulative ammunition. The engine power was increased from 840 to 1130 hp. This made it possible to maintain the mobility of the heavier machine due to the increased protection.

The cannon was replaced during the upgrade. The “Breakthrough” was equipped with a more accurate 2A46M5-01 gun. It can use reinforced long projectiles, which have better armor penetration than ordinary T-90 ammunition. This allows you to hit any modern foreign tanks.

This year, the first batch of eight upgraded T-90M tanks entered the Moscow 27th separate motorized rifle brigade. They are only slightly inferior in their characteristics to the innovative “Armata” and will be purchased in parallel with it. The first batch provides for the modernization of 20 units and the construction of ten vehicles from scratch.

Strategic Direction

South and South-West of Russia have been officially announced by the Ministry of Defense as priority areas for rearmament in 2016. The reasons for this were the conflict in the east of Ukraine and the general complication of the military-political situation in the Black Sea region, the growth of NATO activity in Europe.

Until 2008, there were practically no modern tanks in the south of the country. T-90s began to be sent there in massive quantities only after the operation of forcing Georgia to peace. They were given priority to the tank battalions of the 7th military base in Abkhazia, the 19th and 136th motorized rifle brigades, and then several more units in the district. The formation of new divisions will require a further increase in the number of vehicles.

According to the Ministry of Defense, in 2020 alone, about 3 thousandunits of modern weapons and military equipment. This made it possible to bring its share in the land, sea and aviation components up to the planned 70%. At the same time, the air defense units of the Aerospace Forces are equipped with new models almost completely. In addition to the S-400 Triumph long-range systems and Pantsir-S short-range systems, the first S-350 Vityaz medium-range systems were sent here.

In April of this year, during the exercises of the Ministry of Defense, an additional reinforcement of the southern direction was worked out.Two combined-arms armies and three airborne units were quickly deployed to the border with Ukraine and Crimea from the depths of the country.

The head of Rostourism assessed the quality of hotel service in Anapa

On August 25, the head of Rostourism Zarina Doguzova inspected the quality of hotel service and the prospects for the development of the tourism industry in Anapa. Together with Vice-Governor of Kuban Alexander Ruppel, Acting Minister of Resorts Maria Zolotukhina and Vice-Mayor of Anapa Svetlana Balaeva, Doguzova visited a number of hotels of different stars and met with their leadership.

“Today we looked at several hotels in the resort, and came to the conclusion that business is taking an active position here. Yes, not everything works out right away, but the owners have a great desire to work and develop. Every year in Anapa, new modern complexes with an extensive number of good quality rooms are opened, everything is moving in the right direction. In general, the impressions from what we saw are positive, ”said the head of the Federal Tourism Agency Zarina Doguzova.

At the same time, Doguzova also identified a number of problems that are inherent in most hotels in our country. So, according to her, not all objects correspond to the declared star category in terms of food, technical support and cleaning. To address this issue, in 2022 Rosturizm plans to launch in a test mode an online classification of hotels operating on the “all inclusive” and “ultra all inclusive” systems. On the portal, tourists with the help of quick and convenient navigation will be able to choose a suitable hotel and study the criteria that correspond to it.

The Vice-Governor of Kuban, in turn, noted at a joint meeting with Doguzov that at the moment there are 80 facilities in the region on the “all-inclusive” and “ultra-all-inclusive” systems. He also added that 60% of vacationers coming to our resorts prefer this particular category.

“Improving the quality of service is a long and difficult path for all of us, which we overcome together with hoteliers and with the support of the federal agency, we work for one result. For example, this year the 5-star and 4-star categories were assigned to 42 and 184 properties, respectively. It is important for us that tourists return annually to rest in our region, so the entire resort infrastructure must meet their expectations, ”summed up the Vice Governor of Kuban Alexander Ruppel.

90,000 TOP 10 Worst Tanks World Of Tanks

Today we have an overview of the most terrible tanks according to the reviewer Jove, so we will not say here what plays well and bends well in World of Tanks. We will only talk about stupid torment, because many of the tanks in the game bring players exactly that.

This review tells about which tanks should not be played in any case, which tanks should not be bought at all, because if you buy them, your life will turn into a total hell. So, TOP 10 worst tanks in the game World of Tanks , let’s go!

FV 4202

In tenth place we have the long-suffering British ST of level 10.

Compared to other tier 10 medium tanks, this is nothing at all. First, we are hard-fought to get an expert – and this is our smallest problem.Secondly, there is very weak armor on the sides and in karma. Thirdly – the presence of a commander’s cupola, which you can pierce in the clinch.

And the last thing is low maximum speed and large dimensions. The combination of all these drawbacks makes the weakest Tier 10 tank.

SU101

Tier 8 Soviet tank destroyer. Cons: very poor ground cross-country ability, low one-time damage compared to other Tier 8 tank destroyers (for example, Fedya has 500, and we have 320), low armor penetration and almost complete absence of elevation angle (in other words, the gun is down does not bend).

In general, this is the saddest Tier 8 tank destroyer, with the saddest characteristics, it doesn’t drive much, doesn’t shoot, the gun doesn’t go down, there is no armor at all.

In short, don’t pump it.

Lorraine 40 t

Times are passing – this CT was moved to level 9 and severely nerfed. He no longer drives, he has no armor, the drum seems to be there, but the cannon is oblique. In general, nothing good.

One of the lowest HP indicators among classmates.Huge dimensions for CT. Crystal armor for both hull and turret. The gun does not go down, poor camouflage, muzzle brake.

In general, it is not at all clear what good can be said about this Tier 9 medium tank. This is the weakest CT, and if you see him in random, then you should know that you cannot rely on such an ally if his percentage of victories is not 60.

T95

What can you say about this tank destroyer? Probably the main thing is that in the modern realities of randomness it is completely unplayable.

She is very slow, her armor does not break at all with the current gold.

It is targeted and killed by artillery, heavy, medium and even light tanks.

This tank destroyer is especially bad on open maps, when you need to get somewhere for half a battle.

In general, the tank is very sad.

Type 5 Chi-Ri

Japanese Misunderstanding – Tier 7 Medium Tank. If you list all its disadvantages, a separate review is not enough.

Huge size, low mobility, poor armor. It is not at all clear where this medium tank is. He does not drive at all, does not shoot. Yes, he has some kind of drum, but he does not shoot at all.

If we compare this tank with another medium tank, say, the Komit, then the latter wins over his head. And what’s that? It seems to have to drive, but does not drive, it has to tank, but does not tank. There is no view, it glows from 370 meters almost always. In short, full slag, in no case buy!

MAUS

The largest, most armored, with the most HP and the most useless at level 10.Why? Because the Mouse has the same problem as the T-95. In the realities of the current random with gold, he simply can not do anything.

Again, in the realities of current maps, he can do nothing. Mouse needs some gorges and city streets so that he can safely tank, but the game really does not provide anything of this.

Very low top speed, very large silhouette. They always focus on him, because he is always the easiest to get into. Slow turn of the tower, makes its way even without gold, if you know where to shoot.Although, in its own way, the tank is fun, but not many can master it.

VK 45 / 02B

German Tier 9 Heavy Tank. Once it was good enough, but now its time has passed. Weakly armored and long side part, vulnerability to artillery, low maneuverability, the gun is also not the best.

In general, if E75 is the quintessence of the German bend at level 9, then Slipper B is the quintessence of suffering at level 9. Even the developers themselves agreed that this heavy tank had to be uplifted, it was already outdated, it could no longer bend as before.

In general, if you suddenly find yourself on the ninth level, then it is better not to download this tank.

AMX 40

So we come to the top 3 worst tanks in the game. In third place we have a Frenchman. Very weak engine power, very poor top speed, unless of course from a hill.

Absolutely nothing can be done at the bottom of the list, and at the top of the list he has to get somewhere.

The armor does not solve for him, because there are a lot of gold arrows, and in order for the armor to decide, you still need to be able to somehow play on it.

Review – 340 meters, it will not be possible to shine, a real cactus. In general, darkness.

M3 Lee

Or among the common people “oh my God!” It is also known under the names of a stinker, a bastard, a goat, a leech.

One of those cases when I would like to rightfully say – “it’s not my hands that are crooked, this is a bad tank”.

It has no turret, the lowest speed among all Tier 4 STs. Where is he at all ST?

Thanks to American designers and our developers for introducing it.This is a true genius of scientific thought, an excellent choice for those who like to play on their nerves

Churchill Gun Carrier

Finally, the worst brown shit in our TOP. Just a common noun creation of equally common British scientists.

How could this be done? Lord, what is this? Okay, there was a good heavy tank Churchill, which at least drove and could even fart sometimes. Was this huge tool inscribed in this huge wheelhouse, to make an incomprehensible setting? What did they think?

Low-set gun, very weak UGN and UVN, cardboard armor at right angles, that is, there is no slope there at all, so practically do not expect recochets.Poor speed and poor dynamics, very long hull, making it an attractive target for artillery.

In general, this is just some kind of misunderstanding, which is not clear why it is needed at all in this game.
