Super Junior Members’ Dramas And Movies

It’s been over 15 years since the debut of OG idol group Super Junior. The group was a K-pop game-changer: Its initial lineup attracted a diverse fanbase and its large member count (more to love with thirteen members!) transformed Hallyu history forever by paving the way for the creation of subunits as we know it. ICYDK, prior to Super Junior’s debut, K-pop groups were composed of only four to five members on average.

Through the years, the boys have experimented with genres that ranged from pop and R&B to rock music and EDM. They’ve amassed a plethora of awards through hit songs spanning more than 20 albums. Super Junior members have also flexed their musical versatility by showing new sides of themselves through projects spanning five subgroups and occasional solo releases.

Oh, and did we mention that they can act too? Check out these faves featuring Super Junior members that you absolutely need to add to your streaming list:

Early Projects

1. Attack On The Pin-Up Boys (2007)

Where to watch it: Amazon Prime

The plot: This classic high school mystery features all OG members of Super Junior minus Kyuhyun (he was recovering from an injury when filming took place). The boys star as students from neighboring high schools plagued by a series of mysterious attacks on flower boys. When things start getting out of hand, Donghae and Kibum take matters into their own hands and initiate an investigation to find the culprit. This whodunit film charms its viewers with its hilarious plot and star-studded cast of characters (keep your eyes peeled for cameo appearances by EXO‘s Suho, SHINee‘s Key, Henry from Super Junior M, and Girls’ Generation‘s Yuri!)

2. Miss Panda And Mr. Hedgehog (2012)

Where to watch it: Amazon Prime

The plot: Talented pastry chef Go Seung Ji (Super Junior’s Donghae) was given the nickname “hedgehog” to match his cold and prickly personality. It takes the likes of sweet and easygoing café owner Pan Da Yang (Yoon Seung Ah) to yank out the kind-hearted softie inside him when she hires him to help her save Panda Café, her crisis-hit bakery.

Recent Projects

3. My Fellow Citizens (2019)

Where to watch it: Netflix, Viu

The plot: Rom-com crime drama My Fellow Citizens explores the relationship dynamics between a police detective and a conman. Super Junior’s Siwon amplifies his leading man charm as Yang Jung Kook, a con artist who unknowingly marries a police officer named Kim Mi Young (Lee Yoo Young). The plot thickens when a twist of events propels Jung Kook to run for a seat in the National Assembly to protect his wife from finding out his true identity.

4. SJ Returns Season 4 (2020)

Where to watch it: VLive

The plot: The fourth season of SJ Returns follows the everyday lives of Super Junior members and levels up the fan service with members acting on requests from fans in celebration of the group’s 15th debut anniversary. If you’re looking for a Super Junior fix, look no further: This show has 108 episodes for your fan viewing pleasure.

5. Super Junior Comeback Show House Party (2021)

The plot: Join Leeteuk, Donghae, Kyuhyun, Heechul, Siwon, Yesung, Eunhyuk, Ryeowook, and Shindong as they celebrate the launch of their 2021 comeback album The Renaissance in a performance packed, one-hour special. ELFs are invited to party with the boys in a house decked with all things kyeopta (cute). LIST: Meet the cast of Netflix K-drama ‘Vincenzo’

MANILA, Philippines — Song Joong-ki returns to being the tough guy after his hiatus in the Netflix fantasy series “Arthdal Chronicles” in 2019.

In the recently premiered “Vincenzo,” Song Joongki is a Korean-Italian mafia lawyer who is out to exact vengeance on an erring conglomerate. He is not the only one to look out for in this action-thriller. His co-stars in the show also led credible performances that will excite viewers. Find out where you’ve seen the cast of the drama.

Song Joong-ki

As an extremely popular Hallyu star, you might have seen a few of Song Joong-ki’s dramas and movies. One of his most famous and swoon-worthy roles is Captain Yoo Si-jin from “Descendants of the Sun.” In “Vincenzo,” Song Joong-ki’s character is decidedly different and closer to an anti-hero. As a consigliere to an Italian mafia, Vincenzo Cassano has questionable ethics and no qualms about using evil tactics to punish evil people. You’ll be able to enjoy a different shade of sexy from Song Joong-ki.

Song Joong-ki needs no further introduction as one of the most popular Hallyu stars today. Everybody who is into K-drama knows he is the other famous Captain apart from Capt. Ri of “Crash Landing On You.” He’s the romantic Capt. Yoo Si-jin from the 2016 hit “Descendants of the Sun.

The tables are now turned with Joong-ki playing an anti-hero in the series. As a consigliere to an Italian mafia, Vincenzo Cassano has questionable ethics and no qualms about using evil tactics to punish evil people. Watch Joongki essay a complicated character in “Vincenzo” just like his past roles in “Innocent Man” and “Arthdal Chronicles.”

Jeon Yeo-been

“Vincenzo” is Jeon Yeo-been’s third drama, but she’s actually been in over 15 films. She rose in acclaim following her award-winning turn in the movie “After My Death.” Also, she acted with Ok Taec-yeon before through “Save Me.” Drama fans, however, might recognize her from rom-com “Be Melodramatic.” Her nuanced portrayal of a woman who has post-traumatic stress disorder following her boyfriend’s passing proved she can be an absolute gem in a drama, too.

Images courtesy of Netflix

Jeon Yeo-been is a known gem in Korean cinema. A relative new comer who debuted in 2015, she fast gained a reputation as a promising actress with fine performances in movies and film. In 2018, she was named Actress of the Year at the 22nd Busan International Film Festival and earned the Independent Star Award at the 2017 Seoul Independent Film Festival for her performance in the mystery drama “After My Death.”

In “Vincenzo”, she reunites with her “Save Me” co-star Ok Taec-yeon. In her newest series, Jeon Yeo-been acts as lawyer Hong Cha-young who prides herself in her ability to win cases.

Ok Taec-yeon

Ok Taec-yeon is more known for his masculine and caring characters who often fight against malicious characters or even ghosts like in “Bring It On, Ghost.” The boyband-member-turned-actor will be able to showcase a cuter side of himself through his character Jang Joon-woo in “Vincenzo.”

Images courtesy of Netflix

Korea’s favorite “model soldier” and “Captain Korea” stars in another thriller after “Save Me.” A genre he is comfortable in like the fantasy thriller “Bring It On, Ghost,” the 2PM boyband member and main rapper showcases a cuter side of himself through his character Jang Joon-woo in “Vincenzo. ” Jang Joon-woo is an intern lawyer who works with Hong Cha-young and has a huge crush on her. He’s a bit clumsy and ditzy, so there should be some funny and adorable moments to enjoy.

Kim Yeo-jin

There’s plenty of formidable baddies facing Vincenzo and Hong Cha-young. Among them, Kim Yeo-jin portrays prosecutor turned lawyer Choi Myung-hee in “Vincenzo.” Choi Myung-hee ends up becoming a senior partner at the law firm Hong Cha-young works at. While she will be an aggravating foe in this drama, Kim Yeo-jin has acted as plenty of warm-hearted characters like the thoughtful police officer Lee Hae-gyeong in “Extracurricular.”

Images courtesy of Netflix

She is among Korea’s notable character actors with a filmography that includes works in film, TV and theater. Kim Yeo-jin has acted in titles popular to international K-drama fans like “Love in the Moonlight,” “My Secret Terrius,” “Itaewon Class” and “Extracurricular.”

In the mafia thriler, Kim Yeo-jin portrays prosecutor turned lawyer Choi Myung-hee who ends up becoming a senior partner at the law firm Hong Cha-young works at. She’s not above breaking the law if it means she can achieve her goals.

Kwak Dong-yeon

Having debuted as a teenager, Kwak Dong-yeon usually portrays kind characters like friendly and compassionate teaching assistant Yeon U-yeong in “My ID Is Gangnam Beauty.” He also recently showed a comical and touching cameo in “It’s Okay to Not Be Okay.”

Images courtesy of Netflix

K-dramaland’s favorite and trusty buddy Kwak Dong-yeon is turning 360-degrees in “Vincenzo.” If fans were gushing over him as their favorite swordsman in “Love in the Moonlight” or as the friendly and compassionate teaching assistant Yeon U-yeong in “My ID Is Gangnam Beauty,” they’ll be intrigued with him as Jang Han-seo, Babel Group’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The head of the conglomerate is infamous for being a bit crazy and obsessive with winning. He’ll do anything to get revenge and what he wants, even at the cost of someone’s life.

Cho Han-cheul

Rounding out the group of evil opponents is Han Seung-hyuk who is the head of the law firm Hong Cha-young works at. Having strong ties with the prosecution and the media, Han Seung-hyuk is accustomed to winning cases for his wealthy clients. He utilizes underhanded methods to turn people who oppose him into dust. While his character might not be your favorite lawyer in “Vincenzo,” Cho Han-cheul has played a wide spectrum of roles and you might recognize his sympathetic poetry-loving character from “Romance Is a Bonus Book.”

He is another one of Korea’s seasoned character actor who has graced many notable films and TV series including the films “Along With the Gods: The Last 49 Days” and “Pandora” as well as series as the king in “100 Days My Prince” and as a sympathetic poetry-loving character from “Romance Is a Bonus Book.”

The countries of Europe must reflect on the new reality in which the United States may not aspire to the role of world leader, as it was before. This was announced by German Chancellor Angela Merkel in an interview with six European newspapers: The Guardian, Süddeutsche Zeitung, Le Monde, La Vanguardia, La Stampa and Polityka.

According to Merkel, Europeans grew up with the knowledge that the United States aspires to be a world power. “If the US now wanted to stop playing this role of its own free will, we would have to think about it very seriously,” she added (quoted by The Guardian).

Trump allowed the sending of part of the US military from Germany to Poland

Merkel also commented on the statements of US President Donald Trump, who previously announced his decision to reduce the American contingent in Germany. The Chancellor noted that United States troops are helping to protect not only Germany and the European part of NATO, but also American interests.

90,000 Five stars of Soviet cinema who went through the Great Patriotic War

We remember and love them as actors and directors, but behind these people is a real feat, they defended the Motherland in order to give it a peaceful life.A life in which you can shoot movies, laugh at comedies and not be afraid for tomorrow. “ PolitRussia ” in the framework of the special project “ Creation of the World ” tells its readers about five Soviet actors and directors who heroically fought against Nazi Germany.

Vladimir Basov

All Soviet viewers, young and old, knew the actor and director Vladimir Basov. The wolf from “Little Red Riding Hood”, Duremar from “The Golden Key”, the head of the mafia from “The Adventures of Electronics” – all these are characters brilliantly played by Basov. But not only children loved him: the actor has a lot of “adult” roles.

In June 1941, Basov came to VGIK to find out the details of his admission. But the outbreak of the war prevented him from becoming a student that year: it ruined plans for a peaceful life. Instead of VGIK, the future actor went to the front. Basov went through the entire war from 1941 to 1945, and returned to the walls of the Institute of Cinematography only in 1947.

And in the fateful June, he went to an accelerated course at an artillery school. After that, Basov fought as the battery commander of the 424th mortar regiment of the 36th mortar brigade of the 28th artillery breakthrough division. He was wounded and suffered from the consequences of this injury all his life.

During the war, the future actor and director did not forget about his passion: he was in charge of the amateur performance of the 4th separate rifle brigade, organized about 150 concerts in companies, on batteries, in dugouts and directly on the front line.

In 1943, Basov was awarded the medal “For Military Merit”. And in 1945 – the Order of the Red Star. Basov ended the war with the rank of captain and then thought about continuing his military career, but the love of cinema won.

Yuri Nikulin

One of the most beloved by the people of the USSR actors – Yuri Nikulin – participated not only in the Great Patriotic War, but also in the Soviet-Finnish war. In 1939, eighteen-year-old Nikulin was drafted into the army and served in the anti-aircraft artillery troops near Leningrad. From the first days of the Great Patriotic War, Nikulin’s battery opened fire on the fascist planes that were breaking through to Leningrad.

In 1943, he was wounded and shell-shocked, and after the hospital of the future Dunce, he was sent to the 72nd separate anti-aircraft battalion near Kolpino.Nikulin met the victory in the Baltic States with the rank of sergeant.

Despite the fact that “Semyon Gorbunkov” spent about seven years in military uniform, he still chose the acting path, and we know him for his immortal roles. Interestingly, after the war, Nikulin wanted to enter first at VGIK, and then at GITIS, but he was not accepted either there or there, because they did not find his acting skills.

Fortunately, Nikulin nevertheless broke through to the big screen and subsequently received the title of People’s and Honored Artist, as well as many awards for shock work. But his very first and, perhaps, the most important awards were the medals “For Courage”, “For the Defense of Leningrad” and “For Victory over Germany.”

Mikhail Pugovkin

Pugovkin, the Soviet people know various idiots from comedic roles, but in life the actor showed remarkable courage. In July 1941, Pugovkin, who was not yet eighteen, volunteered for the front. He was enlisted in the 1st Infantry Regiment of the 6th Division of the Moscow People’s Militia, as part of which he built defensive lines, then participated in the Elninsky operation.

As his wife Irina later recalled, Pugovkin was very lucky then: on the way, a column of volunteers was bombed by an air raid, and about 150 young guys were killed, absolutely not ready for war, unarmed, in summer pants, T-shirts and slippers. But the future actor managed to survive.

However, the war did not pass for him without wounds. In 1942, from the militia Pugovkin was transferred to scouts. He ended up in the 1147th Regiment of the 353rd Infantry Division, near Rostov. And in June 1942, a German grenade exploded near Voroshilovsk, and Pugovkin was seriously wounded.

He was treated for a long time in an evacuation hospital and almost lost his leg: gangrene began, and the doctors were going to amputate the injured limb. The actor begged the doctors not to ruin his career, and in the end the leg was saved. Pugovkin was discharged, and already in 1943 he appeared on the stage of the Moscow Drama Theater.

All his life he did not like to remember the war and shied away from talking about this time. Pugovkin was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War II degree and the medal “For Victory over Germany.”

Alexey Smirnov

“We must, Fedya, we must!” Everyone knows this legendary phrase from “Operation Y” and other adventures of Shurik. But not everyone knows that the actor Alexei Smirnov, who played the same hooligan and parasite Fedya, heroically went through almost the entire war. In the ranks of the Red Army, Smirnov served since 1940: first as part of the 7th mortar brigade, then – in the 3rd artillery breakthrough division.

Smirnov, like Pugovkin, did not like to remember the war, but the quotes from his award lists speak for themselves: “in intelligence he destroyed three and captured two Nazis”, “rushed into battle, repulsed the attack of the Nazis, remained on the battlefield 17 killed Germans, he personally took seven Hitlerites prisoner “,” despite the intense rifle-machine-gun and artillery-mortar shelling, with the calculation he transported a mortar on himself to the left bank of the Oder River, destroyed two machine-gun points and twenty Nazis “,” replacing the retired incapacitated the mortar commander, conducted intense fire, scattering up to two enemy infantry platoons “…

On merit and awards: Smirnov – full holder of the Order of Glory, holder of the Order of the Red Star, winner of the medal “For Courage”.

Shortly before the Victory, in January 1945, the actor was seriously wounded and never returned to the front. A peaceful life began, in which he played many roles that went down in the history of Soviet cinema.

Leonid Gaidai

Gaidai is a director whose work was loved, without exaggeration, by all Soviet people, young and old. But few know that Gaidai almost died in the war, and we might not know his brilliant films.

The actor and director were drafted into the army in 1942. He was sent to peaceful Mongolia, and Gaidai himself, like his colleagues, considered it shameful and were eager for a real battle. Therefore, when the military commissar came to select the replenishment for the active army, Gaidai was determined and answered every question of the officer: “Me!”

– Who’s in the artillery?

– Me!

– Cavalry?

– Me!

– To the Navy?

– Me!

– For reconnaissance?

– Me!

– Wait, Gaidai, – said the disgruntled military commissar.- Let me read out the entire list.

It is from this incident that the famous episode from the short story “Partner” (“Operation” Y “and other adventures of Shurik) will be born years later. And then the military commissar sent the zealous soldier to the Kalinin front.

Gaidai served in a foot reconnaissance platoon, repeatedly went to the enemy’s rear, but in 1943, returning from a mission, he was blown up by an anti-personnel mine and received a very severe leg wound. He, like Pugovkin, was threatened with amputation, but Gaidai categorically refused, telling the doctors that there are no one-legged actors. However, the consequences of that injury reminded of themselves all my life. The wound periodically festered, Gaidai was disabled, but he never complained to anyone.

After the war, he plunged into his passion – cinema. And for military exploits he was awarded the medals “For Military Merit” and “For Victory over Germany.”

Earlier, PolitRussia, within the framework of the special project “ Creation of the World ”, published a touching story of the veteran Vadim Bobikov.

How the Poles served Hitler: arctus – LiveJournal

There was no politics in this, one afternoon a dark-skinned twenty-year-old man came to school and offered classes in a gliding circle at the Katowice airfield. He also offered excursions to the mountains, campgrounds, sports competitions. After three years of great play, when I was already flying gliders and small planes, I was asked if I would like to become a pilot of a real fighter? I did not think for a second, and so I found myself in the Bavarian training center for Luftwaffe pilots “. Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, today’s Pope Benedict XVI, described his adventures as a young Bavarian guy in the same way (material prepared in 2012).

In Silesia, the nickname “grandfather from the Wehrmacht” cannot be an epithet. The grandfather from the Wehrmacht is not only an unfortunate historical episode, but also a significant piece of history covering the tragic time of Hitlerism.

In numerous anthologies and collections of Silesian humor, a man similar to the warrior Švejk appears, drawn into the cogwheels of a military colossus, who emerges from regular difficult positions in the uniforms of all branches of the forces of Hitlerite Germany, including in the form of African Corps (Afrika Korps ), called by the author ironically “our AK” ( Home Army ).

This past is seriously fixed in photographs, in memoirs, diaries, on tombstones and obelisks (about which no one needed unnecessary disputes in Silesia).

The oldest preserved portraits of the inhabitants of Silesia in German uniforms during the war between Prussia and France, and it is they who create a kind of beginning of history. The first recruits from Upper Silesia fought in the Prussian army already during the Napoleonic wars, but the massive and organized conscription into the Prussian army began from the war between Prussia and France (1870-1871), this was a consequence of the rapid civilized development of Upper Silesia, which began in the second half of the nineteenth century – earlier this region was considered as a remote and insufficiently civilized periphery of Prussia.

The First World War was already a large and well-organized enterprise in which Upper Silesia took part as an important part of the German Empire. It is estimated that 200,000 Upper Silesian soldiers served in the Kaiser’s Wehrmacht, of whom 30,000 died and about 70,000 were injured.

And this was already a period of growing national consciousness of the inhabitants of Silesia. According to the last before the First World War, the general list of the population of Upper Silesia, 60% of the inhabitants of this province spoke Polish, from which we can conclude that half recognized themselves as Poles, although this region has developed outside Poland since the fifth century.Military service in the German army was then perceived not as a national conflict of conscience, but rather as a civic duty, given the absence of Poland on the map of Europe.

Annexed to the Third Reich

The social situation in 1939 was already different. Although hardly 20 years have passed since the end of the First World War, a lot has happened. Upper Silesia went through a campaign of extermination, disputes over political belonging to Poland or Germany, and, finally, three uprisings, of which the last was essentially a fratricidal civil war.

The plebiscite territory of Silesia was divided by the Polish-German border, but this did not cause any political problems, but rather complicated these problems. On both sides of the border, national conflicts continued, supported by the forced Polonization of the Silesian Voivodeship, and the forced Germanization in the Polish province of Germany.

Almost 250 thousand Silesians abandoned their homes to move across the neighboring border – in one direction or the other. The annexation of the entire Upper Silesia to the Reich in 1939 forced a large operation to verify nationality, the consequence of which was service in the Hitlerite Wehrmacht.

Entry into the German National List – Deutsche Volkslist (DFL) – associated with civil rights and duty, and therefore with military service. Refusal to be included in the DFL list meant a life without civil rights, but also without civic duty.

In Upper Silesia, the overwhelming majority of the displaced (about 140 thousand people – although persecuted and deprived of a full food ration and a better job), however, survived the war. For those included in the DFL list, a conflict of conscience began, family dramas due to participation in the war on Hitler’s side.

The first to serve in the Wehrmacht were residents of Upper Silesia with pre-war citizenship, residents from Bytom, Zabrze and Gliwice – this was the only group that served in the Wehrmacht throughout the war. Almost all ended up on the western front, which from the beginning did not arouse the horror of war.

Lightning victories in France, with negligible losses, and then a year of quiet life in the barracks – this was not a nuisance for many young guys. The Wehrmacht organized additional local history excursions, cultural events, long passes and vacations for them.

So, the letters that they sent to their families, in addition to longing, contained pride because of the opportunity to know the world, and the pictures attached to the letters against the background of an Alpine glacier or the Eiffel Tower aroused the envy of their colleagues who were looking forward to being drafted or voluntarily going to the Wehrmacht.

At the end of 1940, the conscription of the inhabitants of Silesia from the DFL list began. The first group of conscripts (several thousand) ended up in the German Afrika Korps (Deutsches Afrika Korps). There was no longer a lazy barrack life, and although it smelled strong of gunpowder, the initial successes of the Afrika Korps and the exoticism of the recognizable lands fueled the soldier’s imagination.

And again, families and friends got photos of warriors, this time near smiling naked black women, elephants, crocodiles and camels, and the letters contained descriptions of landscapes and cultural discoveries. Even the first notifications of the wounded and the dead have not yet awakened horror – the risk of serious and even fatal events at work was inscribed in the daily life and consciousness of a young Silesian from the third generation. Only the eastern front opened in 1941 aroused concern.

Initial successes gave birth to hope for a quick victory and a quiet occupation of the Soviet Union, but these hopes were allayed by the defeat of Stalingrad and the avalanche increase in the number of victims, which plunged more and more families into mourning.
The next calls to the Wehrmacht became a deadly lottery – when a young resident of Silesia found out that he was going to the east – he considered it death sentences. There were fewer and fewer letters describing attractiveness, and more and more prayer spells. And after the opening of the western front, there was no easy service in the Wehrmacht at all.

The bloodless Wehrmacht conscripted both older and younger in age (in the last conscription in November 1944, the youngest conscripts were born in 1927, and the oldest in 1889).The biggest dramas of conscience also happened then. Even former Silesian rebels and their sons, who did not even speak German, were employed in the Wehrmacht.

There were more and more soldiers in the Wehrmacht who, in the Polish September 1939 campaign of the year, fought against the Germans in the ranks of the Polish Army. They, accepting the DFL list, were released from the POW camps and were automatically included in the ranks of the Wehrmacht, where they even retained their Polish military ranks.

In total, by the end of the war, about 90,015 220 thousand 90,016 inhabitants of Silesia were drafted into the Nazi army.About 40 thousand were killed, and about 80 thousand were seriously injured.

Guys from the Luftwaffe

The greatest emotions are still awakened by the volunteers, who made up about 10% of the recruits called up from Silesia to the Hitlerite army. Many of them saw this kit as a chance for promotion in society and a way to break out of the onerous daily routine. Effective propaganda activities were carried out by well-trained activists of the Hitler Youth organization, in whose ranks all fourteen-year-old students were automatically enrolled.

An eloquent description of the young boy’s own experience was left by Heinrich Bereska, an excellent translator of Polish literature into German: “ There was no politics in this, one day a dark-skinned twenty-year-old man came to school and offered classes in a gliding circle at the Katowice airfield. He also offered excursions to the mountains, campgrounds, sports competitions. After three years of great play, when I was already flying gliders and small planes, I was asked if I would like to become a pilot of a real fighter? I did not think for a second, and so I found myself in the Bavarian training center for Luftwaffe pilots “.Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger , today Pope Benedict XVI , described his adventures as a young Bavarian guy in the same way.

Volunteers, residents of Silesia, were invited mainly to elite formations, that is, in the Luftwaffe and Kriegsmarine. Service in the Waffen-SS was also voluntary, although many Silesians later proved that they were conscripted into the SS. After all, it is entirely possible that in the last phase of the war, the military replenishment services transferred the recruits mobilized to the Wehrmacht to SS units. It even happened that the recruits’ families were blackmailed by repression.

From the Wehrmacht to the army of Anders

In many descriptions of the military destinies of the inhabitants of Silesia, there are massive cases of desertion from the Wehrmacht and the transition to the Polish Armed Forces in the West. However, this requires clarification. Of course, there were cases of classic desertion from the battlefield, not returning from vacations, fleeing during transportation, and the like, but they do not create this section of history. However, such deserters were effectively caught by the field gendarmerie and this ended with a penalty company.

The largest number of cases of transfer to the Polish Armed Forces occurred due to an organized action of encouraging the inhabitants of Silesia, those who in German uniforms were captured by British or American captives. This was a deliberate action by the Polish army replenishment service, necessary because the reserves of Polish recruits from emigration were depleted.

The first inhabitants of Silesia (about 1000 soldiers) of these reinforcements were prisoners from the Afrika Korps, but the largest number (about 40 thousand) was found in the Polish units only in 1944-1945, which means in the decisive phase of the war. These soldiers were transferred from parts of the Wehrmacht that are not fighting in the Middle East, in Italy and in Normandy. In total, about 50 thousand Silesians, that is, 25% of the army personnel, got into the Polish Armed Forces in the West in this way.

It was different on the eastern front. Although 40 thousand inhabitants of Silesia were captured by the Soviet Union, the command of the Polish army did not resort to reserving these soldiers, and only took about 3 thousand into the army. These crossings across the front lines had a tragic side effect – fratricidal battles. The graves of soldiers in Monte Cassino speak a lot about this. In the Polish military cemetery 160 inhabitants of Silesia are buried. About 200 of them rest in two nearby German cemeteries.
Polish fratricidal battles took place throughout the Italian campaign, as well as in the Ardennes, France, on the military route of General Machka’s tank division and in the air battle for England.

After the war

Contrary to popular belief, neither immediately after the war, nor later, former Wehrmacht soldiers faced massive repressions from the new communist government in Poland (there were only isolated, personal cases of revenge).

The described actions of the post-war martyrdom of the inhabitants of Silesia followed only from national criteria, and military service was not taken into account (except for service in the SS formations). General Alexander Zawadsky, the first post-war Silesian voivode, pursued a prudent policy in this area, probably under the influence of his trusted deputy Colonel Jerzy Zentek, as a consequence of the legendary Silesian voivode – the owner.

The main vector of calculations with the past was directed towards the Deutsche Folklist and national verification. After the proof of the eviction of people recognized by the Germans, the issue of military service in the Wehrmacht was finally closed. In 1946, the inhabitants of Silesia, who were in Soviet captivity, were given the opportunity to return to their homeland. Paradoxically, the greatest problems were faced by the inhabitants of Silesia returning to their homeland from the Anders army, who faced repression until 1956.
Strange, but in the military units of Hitler also served people from the new communist regime and famous members of the Silesian elite. The soldier of the Wehrmacht (and then the Anders army) was Stanislaw Kermaszek – first a long-term deputy of the Silesian voivode, and then the Silesian voivode. For three years he served in the Wehrmacht Wilhelm Szewczyk , Silesian writer, deputy of the Seimas, and a highly placed member of the PZPR (Polish United Workers’ Party). Served in the Wehrmacht Karol Mussel , Chairman of the Presidium of the Local Council of the city of Opole, the creator of Polish festivals. Previously, a soldier of the Wehrmacht was Archbishop Szczepan Vesely , a long-term spiritual mentor of the Polish emigration, as well as numerous sports stars.

In 1991, Dietmar Bremer, chairman of the German Workers’ Commonwealth for Reconciliation and the Future in Katowice, tried to create a list of Nazi army frontline soldiers still living in Silesia in order to provide them with at least a modest compensation from the FRG. Until 1993, about 53 thousand people were checked, to this day no more than 10 thousand of this group have survived, not counting those living in Germany.
When in 2005 Jacek Kurskiy uttered his shameful statement about the grandfather of the Wehrmacht presidential candidate Donald Tusk , Aloizy Lysko became a member of the Seimas from the IPR party list , a Silesian teacher and social activist, the son of a Wehrmacht soldier who died in Ukraine, with difficulty documenting difficult fates of the inhabitants of Silesia, the author of the touching book “These were our fathers”.He sacrificed most of his adult life for the search for his father’s grave, which he eventually found and visited as a member of the Polish Sejm.

The historical episodes cited here are also part of my own family history. My great-grandfather, Franchisek Smoloz, a blacksmith from Pilchowice, propagandist of Polish reading, took Paris in 1871 as part of the Prussian Pickelhaube. My grandfather, a mechanic at a zinc metallurgical plant, was wounded in the uniform of the Kaiser’s army during the First World War at the Battle of Verdun. And my father Brunon Smolozhe, a seller who was already born in the Polish city of Shopenice, was drafted into the Wehrmacht in 1944, crossed the military path from East Prussia to Kolobrzeg, and at the end on the island of Uznam was captured by the Soviet Union, from which he returned in May 1946. In the early sixties, a teacher asked us in class, do we know what our fathers did during the war? I asked this question to my father. Father thought for a moment, and with a mysterious smile replied: “You always say that your dad was the defender of the Pomeranian Wall (Pommernstellung).”And I repeated my father’s answer in my high school years and no one ever paid attention to the falsity of my father’s answer . ”

Conscripts from Deutsche Volksliste

After the annexation of the whole Upper Silesia (together with part of Lesser Poland) to the Reich, the inhabitants of the province were divided into six categories. The first category includes holders of pre-war German citizenship who enjoyed the full rights of a German citizen – Reichsdeutsche.

For former Polish citizens, a procedure was envisaged for being included in the Deutsche Volksliste (DVL) list, and they were divided into four categories. The first category includes active Germans (about 4% of the population), the second category includes passive Germans (9%). The most numerous third category was provided for persons of “dubious nationalities”, whose citizenship could be recognized subject to additional verification (about 41%). Polonized persons (about 2%) were enrolled in the fourth category. In total, 1.45 million inhabitants of the Province of Upper Silesia are registered in Deutsche Folkslist. The rest were people with an administrative decision (rejected – Abgelehnt), which means that these people did not apply or did not take an administrative decision (about 36%).

All the inhabitants of Silesia were first counted in a general population list, carried out for the first time using counting machines manufactured by the IBM concern. The results of the population count were ready in February 1940. In March 1940, the District Military Commission in Katowice began the registration of conscripts. However, along with the appeal, the completion of the creation of the DFL was expected.

The Wehrmacht, after the opening of the eastern front, could not wait longer and the draft began in the spring of 1941. According to the initial decision, the conscription was supposed to cover only conscripts from the first and second categories, but later conscripts from the third category were also included, who at an urgent pace were enrolled in absentia into the second category.

In 1943, the Wehrmacht had already ceased to find fault and took all conscripts in a row, and in 1944 the fourth category fell under the draft. There have even been cases of conscription from the “cast off” category, although these cases stemmed from disorder or excessive effort.
