Tame Impala (2022) » Laneway Presents

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Laneway Presents, Chugg Entertainment & Frontier Touring wish to advise that Tame Impala are rescheduling their upcoming Australian and New Zealand The Slow Rush Tour from December 2021 to October 2022.

Tame Impala are back on the road in North America this month, performing their very first live shows anywhere in the world after an extensive delay. Their Australian and New Zealand shows are unable to proceed as planned in December 2021, due to constantly changing local and international border closures and associated Government directives in both countries.

Tame Impala will now hit our shores for their epic live shows in Spring 2022, kicking off their rescheduled tour at Auckland’s Spark Arena on Saturday 15 October 2022. Limited tickets remain and are on sale now for all 2022 dates.

One of Australia’s greatest musical exports, Tame Impala claimed #1 on triple j’s ‘Hottest 100 of the Decade’ countdown with 2015 track ‘The Less I Know The Better’.

The band’s acclaimed 2020 album, The Slow Rush, was triple j’s Feature Album on release, with three album tracks featuring on their impressive home concert for NPR’s Tiny Desk series, and stunning renditions of singles ‘Lost In Yesterday’ and ‘Breathe Deeper’ performed live on Jimmy Kimmel Live! In March last year. The band recently performed their first headline show in ages in Chicago, where they threw in a cover of Travis Scott’s ‘SKELETONS’, (which Kevin Parker produced for the rapper’s acclaimed
Astroworld
album).

In exciting news, Tame Impala also today announce that rising stars Genesis Owusu and Sycco will join them on all Australian dates in October 2022.

Current ticketholders are advised to hold onto their tickets – tickets to the December 2021 shows are valid for the corresponding rescheduled October 2022 dates (see below), with no action required. Patrons unable to attend new dates meanwhile may obtain a refund. Refund requests must be submitted prior to Friday 22 October – for AU shows, please follow the steps in the link here.

Tame Impala, Laneway Presents, Chugg Entertainment and Frontier Touring thank fans for their support and understanding during these unprecedented circumstances.

Laneway Festival will return ‘ASAP,’ enters new era with TEG

After taking a hiatus in 2021, Laneway Festival will mark its return to the live events calendar through a new partnership with TEG.

Sydney-based TEG, the concerts, ticketing and technology group, teams up with Laneway’s founders Jerome Borazio and Danny Rogers to take the iconic touring fest into its next phase.

TEG CEO Geoff Jones assuaged any concerns that Laneway would lose some of its cutting-edge appeal.

The fest “will continue to operate as it always has, with founders Jerome and Danny and their team working closely with TEG Live Managing Director Tim McGregor as they continue to innovate and plan for the 2022 Laneway Festival,” he explains. “Watch this space.”

TEG takes an undisclosed stake in the brand, while Borazio and Rogers stay on as “substantial owners,” and will continue to run the festival and the business as co-Managing Directors, in partnership with TEG.

Founded in 2005 as a Melbourne street party, St Jerome’s Laneway Festival has grown-up into an international touring beast that shifts more than 100,000 tickets on each trans-Tasman run, and showcases the hottest artists before the rest of the world catches on.

Laneway alumni include Billie Eilish, Lorde, Haim, Tame Impala and Flume.

In a typical year, Laneway visited the five biggest Australian cities (Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Fremantle) as well as Auckland

The most recent tour rumbled across Australia in February 2020, with a lineup led by The 1975, Charli XCX, Ruel, Earl Sweatshirt, Tones And I, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard.

In years past, Laneway circled into Asia via a Singapore leg, and organisers briefly entered the U.S. market with a one-off show in Detroit back in 2013.

Borazio and Rogers thanked supporters for turning a fest that emerged from a “a tiny alley in Melbourne” into an “institution in Australia, NZ and Singapore,” and gave a hint of things to come.

“To the fans and artists,” they say, “we are super determined to get Laneway Festival back on the circuit ASAP, delivering you the amazing line-ups and experiences that you’ve grown accustomed to.”

The pair also thanked Michael Chugg, who leaves the leadership group, and “his incredible teams, past and present. The festival would not exist today without his, and their vision, passion and support.”

Finally, they say, “to the current team working on the festival: thank you for your ongoing patience throughout this challenging period for our industry. With our new partnership with TEG we’ll be able to navigate these next few years knowing we have a team who shares the festival’s long-term vision.”

TEG’s sprawling international network spans ticketing, live entertainment and technology, with interests including Ticketek, TEG Live, Qudos Bank Arena, Eventopia, TEG Dainty, Van Egmond Group and more.

In recent years, the group announced a string of executive hires and promotions, another plank in its long-term strategy for international expansion. Among the new hires was Chief Technology Officer Cameron Stone, formerly with Virgin Australia, and Chief Operating Officer Ian Ball, who joined the company from ASX-listed global professional services company Cardno.

Laneway Festival teases “something special later in 2021”

Though Laneway Festival is not going ahead as usual this year, the touring festival says it is aiming to bring punters “something special later in 2021”.

The festival shared a statement earlier today (January 29), noting that it wanted to give fans “an update of where things are at” on the eve of what would have been the first Australian show of the 2021 leg.

“Much has been said about the challenges facing the live events industry as a result of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and while there is hope on the horizon, unfortunately we are still a while away from presenting you with the Laneway events that you know and love,” the statement continued.

“We are however, working hard behind the scenes to bring you something special later in 2021, and we can’t thank you enough for your ongoing love and support.”

The festival ended the statement on an optimistic note: “Despite all the challenges of the last year it has been truly inspiring to see everyone supporting each other and working together in the face of such adversity. We are in total awe of the spirit of the many artists and their teams that have endeavoured to keep music alive and well through lockdowns, venue restrictions, and constantly shuffling goalposts.

“We can’t wait to celebrate with all of you at a Laneway Festival in the near future!” the statement concluded, signed off by the Laneway Team. Read it in full below.

Laneway Festival squeezed into last year’s live events calendar weeks before the pandemic led to the cancellation of countless festivals and tours all over the world.

In 2020, it kicked off in Auckland on January 27 and landed in Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne and Fremantle over the first nine days of February. Artists who performed last year included Tones And I, Hatchie, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard and The Chats, as well as international headliners Charli XCX and The 1975.

In September 2020, Laneway confirmed that the Auckland edition of the 2021 festival would not go ahead, citing “an extremely tough environment for festivals” due to border closures and “the unpredictability of future COVID-19 outbreaks”.

“We will have more updates on Laneway Festival’s Australian events in the coming months,” the organisers wrote then.

Dear Laneway Friends,After much deliberation, we are very disappointed to announce that Laneway Festival Auckland will…

Laneway Festival teases “something special” coming later in 2021 – Music News

In a world where live music wasn’t upended by COVID-19, Laneway Festival would be kicking off right about now. ..

Alas, Laneway isn’t going ahead as planned, but organisers have teased that “something special” will be coming later this year to help fill the festival-sized hole in our hearts.

The Laneway Team offered a statement on socials on Friday, on the eve of what would’ve been the first Aussie leg, with an “update of where things are at.”

“Much has been said about the challenges facing the live events industry as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and while there is hope on the horizon, unfortunately we are still a while away from presenting you with the Laneway events that you know and love.”

The statement continued: “We are however, working hard behind the scenes to bring you something special later in 2021, and we can’t thank you enough for your ongoing love and support.”

We talking an earlier-than-summer edition of Laneway? Perhaps a livestream event? Some kind of smaller run of shows? We really have no idea but we’ll let you know more as soon as we do.

“Despite all the challenges of the last year it has been truly inspiring to see everyone supporting each other and working together in the face of such adversity,” organisers wrote.

“We are in total awe of the spirit of the many artists and their teams that have endeavoured to keep music alive and well through lockdowns, venue restrictions, and constantly shuffling goalposts. We can’t wait to celebrate with all of you at a Laneway Festival in the near future!”

Before everything went viral, in early February, last year’s Laneway brought the likes of The 1975, Ruel, Charli XCX, Ocean Alley, and Oliver Tree to the usual stops in Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne and Fremantle.

The Hidden Lanes Festival 2021, Brisbane

Not that long ago, the narrow spaces around Fortitude Valley were just that — spaces, not vibrant laneways. These days, the area boasts not one, not two, but now four jam-packed alleys. Yes, that’s a development that’s worth celebrating.

In fact, it’s a change worthy of a day-long festival, which is exactly what the returning Hidden Lanes Festival is all about. On Saturday, August 14 from 9am till late, Bakery Lane, Winn Lane, California Lane and Lucky Lane will turn into a flourishing — and free — party, complete with markets, beverages, art, food, fashion and more than 45 live musical acts.

Here, you’ll eat, drink, listen, shop, chat, learn something, marvel at art and restock your wardrobe, all across one huge day and a quartet of busy spaces.

Naturally, the event will definitely involve the long list of businesses who call the four laneways home — and, tunes-wise, the lineup is headlined VOIID, The Chats, Connor Brooker and Buttercats, who’ll hit up across multiple stages with plenty of company.

Also, due to Brisbane’s current COVID-19 restrictions, there’ll be some rules in place. Dancing is off the cards, you’ll need to sit down to eat and drink, and masks are mandatory.

90,000 Australian Music Festival criticized for including only one woman – Culture

Image: Right Hand

It is sad that even in 2016 women still have to make their way on the stages of music festivals.

This issue has been brought back into the spotlight with the Spilled Milk Festival in Canberra, Australia, due in December. The festival features popular Australian performances such as Flume, Customer Connection, Hermitude and Violent Soho, among others.

However, the organizers of the festival forgot one important thing in their initial announcement of the event: women artists.

Go beyond the little things of life at Spilled Milk this summer and experience the best talent Aus has to offer! pic.twitter.com/EFJJrrnb2v

– Oztix (@oztix) June 13, 2016

Spilled Milk features just one woman in its first line-up – singer-songwriter Vera Blue – among 15 other male singers. Unsurprisingly, gender balance didn’t go well with famous Australian DJs, KLP and Nina Las Vegas, who voiced their displeasure on Twitter.

Am I reading this correctly? 1 woman? 😑 The young girl in me feels so uninspired to try to become a musician in the fraternal city http: // t.co / UIlKWaUlsB

– KLP (@klpmusic) June 9, 2016

lol so backwards http://t.co/18dSmgPvOc

Danny Flung’s Facebook post also called gender balance “bad effort.”

Some people objected to Flung’s post, seeing no problem with the unfair composition.”Why don’t people get hung up on gender ratios for metal concerts, EDM festivals, rap concerts and the like,” wrote one person.

“Not related to gender. This is about who is great now. It’s not about putting together a balanced line, but about who is touring when the festival is taking place and who is going to get the most people to the festival. “Or her great woman,” wrote another commentator.

According to a report from the Australian Music Festival, the shortage of women is part of a broader trend. ABC’s Hack, especially in electronic music.

In this report, electronic music festivals such as Listen Out and Stereosonic lagged behind parity, with 9 percent and 10 percent of lineups being women. Broader music festivals such as Splendor In The Grass and Laneway Festival had lineups with over 30 percent female entries.

The whole situation is ridiculous, especially when you consider that there is no shortage of great female artists Down Under.Local acts such as Courtney Barnett, Tkai Maidza, George Maple, Ngayir and Sampa the Great killed him.

Spilled Milk issued statement Mashable Australia via email suggesting an attempt to correct the problem in a second composition announcement.

“Gender inequality exists throughout society, and we all have a responsibility to promote change, an opportunity we missed in our initial announcement … Gathering exciting castings for this kind of event is incredibly complex, with many different, and often competing, contributing factors.

“With our growing understanding of this issue and the realization that every little step matters, we are committed to empowering women artists to help move the industry in the right direction.”

Let this be a friendly reminder that discussing equality issues can lead to timely change in our stages.

90,000 Things You Didn’t Know About Jamestown

You may have heard or even been to Jamestown’s forts, a lighthouse, a fishing boat on the beach, and the largest annual street art event, Chale Wote – but there are even more compelling things to see and do in Accra’s oldest neighborhood. That’s all you didn’t know about this Ghanaian hotspot.

There are labyrinthine streets for a reason

In the 17th century, the British established formal structures to reaffirm their trade and stabilize their rule – the James and Usher forts still remain isolated settlements from the Gulf of Guinea and the Atlantic Ocean. Today the forts still stand in the village that was once the eye of Accra, their paints peeled off once in a while. The city’s planning for Jamestown also points to its historical past – it was deliberately constructed in a labyrinthine layout during the colonial era to force marauder slavers to lose ground during unsolicited conquests.

Cellular hysteria moves through the crowd as performances by Fu, Efo Chameleon, Sophie, Pappy Kojo, Kwezi Arthur, Blitz, DJ Vimtinz, and more pass among the open spaces of Jamestown.
