Lamy Studio Video Script

This is the Lamy Studio Fountain pen. It comes in a black cardboard box that has the Lamy logo here on the top. The top of the box has this little compression fit around that logo, then the box unfolds. Included with the pen is informational instructions about Lamy, as well as the Lamy Studio Fountain pen.

This is the black version of the pen. It comes with chrome accents. At the top of the cap we have just a chrome tip with a chrome clip on the pen, which transitions nicely. It’s designed to look like a propeller, so it’s a little different look, a unique look to the Lamy Studio. And then at the top of the cap we have the Lamy logo printed on the pen. Between the cap and the barrel it’s a nice, tight seam. Then at the bottom of the barrel, we have just a chrome cap or end to the pen.

This is a compression fit cap, it simply snaps off. We have a chrome colored grip section and Lamy logo; it has a Lamy printed on there. This is a cartridge converter style pen, so included with the pen we have an ink cartridge, as well an ink converter, so you can use bottled inks or cartridge inks, whichever you would prefer with this pen.

Now the cap on the pen can be posted. It is a compression fit back onto the top to keep the cap securely in place once you close the pen. To replace the ink on the pen, you simply unscrew that grip section from the barrel, and you can insert your ink cartridge or a converter into this portion of the pen, and screw that pen back together.

This is a sharp looking pen. Lamy is a German company makes some fantastic writing instruments. Get your Lamy Studio Fountain pen at PenChalet.com

LAMY STUDIO FOUNTAIN PEN REVIEW | The Pencilcase Blog

The Lamy Studio is can be seen as a possible ‘next step’ for the pen enthousiast that outgrew the Lamy Safari, or for those that just want to expand their collection. It’s a pen that is actually seriously underrated in my opinion, since it’s one of the most flexible products in the Lamy catalog, with varying finishes at different price points, it offers something for everyone.
The Studio is a simple flattop pen, no bells and whistles for the most part. .. Apart from one distinct design feature: the unique ‘propeller-style’ twisted clip. It’s a simple but beautiful aesthetic detail that defines the entire pen. Apart from looking good, the clip also functions quite well. It ends in a nicely rounded circular shape, which makes it easy to clip onto something.

Right next to the clip, you can find a small laser-engraved logo. Lamy’s minimal branding (apart from that on the Safari and Al-Star) is something I always enjoy seeing. It’s very unobtrusive, and I actually like the way it looks, in contrast to some pens where I think the branding disturbs the design.

At 14cm closed, and 12.6cm open, the Studio falls in the standard size range. The weight of the pen varies slightly depending on what version you get. The entry-level brushed steel version weighs only 25 grams total, other versions come in slightly higher at 31 grams. It’s a decent standard sized pen that can be used comfortably without posting. The finial on the back of the barrel has a slight ridge, which allows for the cap to be posted securely, although I personally find it shifts the balance a bit too much towards the back.

L to R: TWSBI Eco, Pilot Vanishing Point, Lamy Studio, Lamy safari, Lamy 2000
I personally find this one of the most comfortable pens Lamy makes, apart from maybe the macrolon 2000. But experiences regarding comfort vary quite wildly if you read different reviews. It all depends on one thing: the grip section!

Depending on the model, you can either get a rubberised grip (brushed steel version), a glossy chrome grip, or a matte palladium grip on the palladium version. In most cases you’ll end up with a glossy chrome grip. The other two offer a decent grip and are really comfortable (long, nicely shaped, very small step from section to barrel), but the chrome version can be a dealbreaker. I honestly don’t understand why they would want to make so many different sections…

L to R: rubberised section, glossy chrome section, palladium section

With this in mind, I’d personally recommend getting the cheapest version, the brushed steel. The rubberised section is comfortable and grippy, and it’s actually the most affordable option. It’s a bit unfortunate that they don’t offer the rubberised grips on all the colors and finishes, so you’ll have to take it into account when you’re making a choice.

On to the nib. Here you’ll also find some differences, depending on which finish and color you choose. The brushed steel, matte black and imperial blue finishes all come with steel nibs, but the palladium and Platinium versions come standard with a 14k gold nib. Again, these configurations are as-is, so you can’t get a blue version with a gold nib, or a palladium version with a steel one, but you can buy nibs separately and swap them out yourself.

The nibs, both steel and gold, are excellent writers. I’m a fan of Lamy nibs -let’s make that clear-, they write consistent and smooth, and they are usually well-tuned. The gold nibs have a slight edge in my opinion, because they have a little softness to them, which gives some bounce when you write (don’t expect much line variation though!).

As I said in the beginning of this review, the Lamy Studio is a pen with a lot of potential. Prices start at 47.5 EUR (71.2 USD) for the brushed steel version, and go up from there. For the Palladium version with gold nib, you’ll pay around 170 EUR/ 160 USD. The Platinium version, which is quite hard to find, sits somewhere in the 200+ range. In such a wide price range, you’ll easily find something that suits you most.

News: More Special Edition Colors: Lamy Studio Fountain Pen

In February, Lamy released a teaser of all the special edition pens that will be released in 2019 including the Bronze Al-star and the Pastel Safaris. The latest one to come out is the special editions of the Lamy Studio.

The Lamy Studio isn’t new to Lamy’s product line. This family of pens have been around for quite some time with five colors in their regular line up. There also have been several special edition colors released in the past such as the terra cotta and the olive.

Lamy Studio Fountain Pens
Images of fountain pens from Lamy

The LAMY studio elegantly shows just how close design and art can be. This premium writing instrument seamlessly fuses its individual elements with its convex cylindrical form while simultaneously foregoing all unnecessary embellishments. The propeller-shaped, seemingly twisted clip counters the objective elegance of the LAMY studio with an innovative design accent.

Lamy Studio Aquamarine

For 2019, they have launched the Aquamarine Lamy Studio, which is turquoise that leans more on the green hue. The body has a matte finish with a metal grip section.

Photo from Lamy

The Aquamarine Lamy Studio will cost around $80, same as black, blue, and steel regular Lamy Studio fountain pens.

Lamy Studio Lx All Black

The all black Lamy Studio differs from the rest of the regular edition Lamy Studio pens. One thing that sets it apart is the black metal clip that match the cap and the body. The Aquamarine and the rest of the regular editions have chrome metal clips. It also comes with a black (interchangeable) nib that adds to classy and sleek look of the Lx all black.

Photo from Lamy

Lamy Lx fountain pens cost more than the regular ones and the same goes for the Studio Lx, which retails at approximately $120.

The Lamy Studio is also available in rollerball and ballpoint form. Nibs are also interchangeable, just like the Lamy Safari and Al-star.

LAMY Studio Fountain Pen Review

Are you looking for a high-quality fountain pen? People around the world use different gadgets for typing and sending messages and drafts, but some still prefer the experience of writing with a fountain pen. A top-of-the-line fountain pen can deliver an amazing writing experience and might make you reach out for a pad so you can write a letter.

Well, that might be stretching things a bit, but you get the point. However, not all fountain pens you find on the market offer the same level of quality. You have to consider many factors before you can select one.

People focus on price as the main factor when purchasing a fountain pen. Fountain pens are available at decent prices unless you want to go for a high-end pen that you want to add to your collection. The other factors you have to consider including ergonomics and the writing quality.

You have to choose a pen that offers a comfortable grip, especially if you plan to write for extended periods. A high-quality refill and delivery system is a must so that the ink reaches the nib. Otherwise, you will not be able to adjust the strokes, which limits your line variation.

Our testers in shops are often the victims of overly diligent scribes who push the pen so that the steel nibs are bent. No wonder – after the ballpoint pen, everyone is used to writing with pressure.

From time to time, those who have recently plunged into the world of writing with a pen and bought / borrowed their first fountain pen from a friend ask: Well, I already have a pen! How to write?

Another situation that you have to observe from time to time is when one of your friends or colleagues, seeing you have a fountain pen, asks: Can I see / hold / try?

And you, with hidden concern, watch how with your pen, like a stiletto, your comrade tries to pierce the poor sheet of paper with force, and even asks: Why isn’t she writing ??! 🙂

I will outline my understanding of how to write with a pen in order to enjoy the process and satisfaction from the result.

The text will probably be useful for newly converted writers, and experienced creators of imperishable records already know the subtleties below …

So, you and I (most) are used to writing with a ballpoint pen.

Let’s take a look at how the “ball” works.

At the end of the ball refill, in the writing unit, a real tiny ball made of hard alloy is pressed into it. On the one hand, where it touches the paper, the surface of the ball is open and visible to us, and on the other hand, it comes into contact with ink (paste) inside the rod. When the ball rotates, when the pen moves on the paper, the paste wets the inner surface of the ball, and then, when rotating, this part of the ball with the paste on the surface appears outside, comes into contact with the paper and leaves the paste on it. This makes a line on paper.

And we have to hold the ballpoint almost vertically to keep the ball in contact with the paper, and push the pen vertically quite hard to provide enough friction to rotate the ball. In good ballpoint pens, this clamping force can be less, in normal pens – more. And, regardless of the quality of the handle itself, it must be held almost vertically.

The pen works in a completely different way: the ink on the tip of the pen, between the prongs, comes into contact with the paper, even with gentle pen contact. And to get a line, there is no need to press down strongly on the pen, a light touch is enough (we do not take into account the cases of ornate writing with a flexible or semi-flexible pen now).

In addition, the optimal angle of inclination of the fountain pen from the surface of the paper should be less than that of a ballpoint, and this angle of inclination is more comfortable for our hand.

Which, together, brings those main advantages of a fountain pen: naturalness and lightness.

Repeat to secure.

You take a tucked-in fountain pen in your hand, tilt it slightly towards you and, perhaps a little to the right, if you are right-handed, compared to the usual almost vertical position of a ballpoint pen, lightly touch the paper and draw a line. Happened?

No ??!

Did you fill the handle?

If the pen is tucked in rather than writing, something is wrong with the pen.

A good fountain pen should write with ease and ease. Point.

Penmania.ru Lamy Studio pen review

By the will of fate, Lamy Studio was in my hands the first of all Lamy pens.

I, of course, saw her, before that, several times in pictures on the Internet, but, to be honest, I did not remember this model for anything special then …

And so, once I was walking through a large department store (not in Russia), glancing back and forth (I don’t really like to be in these kingdoms for a long time to receive money from the population in exchange for not very necessary, but so attractive, or rather, attractively packaged, little things).

And now, looking to the right, and right into the aisle between the departments of the store, more than a dozen Lamy pens are looking at me in rows, in slender rows. Well, and quite expectedly, most of them are ballpoint 🙂

But there are also a few feathers!

I explain to the saleswoman in a slightly understandable language (English) which pen I want to hold in my hands and show it just at Lamy Studio.

First impression

Lie. Everybody lies photos! 🙂 Well, not quite, of course, but, nevertheless, photographs, even high-quality ones, do not convey those feelings, from touch, from lighting, from writing, which you can get…

I liked the handle from the first touch!

Packaging and Contents

Lamy remained true to itself – they did not invent a special box for a stylish pen and packed it into a more or less standard version [for Lamy].

But this standard also has its own design subtleties:

box is made of cardboard with a wavy surface – a pleasant dark gray color. It does not look cheap, although it does not amaze the imagination with mahogany 🙂

A highlight is the Lamy logo on a silver plate glued on top.And (a little surprise) this logo is at the same time a lock that keeps the top cover from opening. Just friction. The cut-out window in the top lid exactly matches the embossed logo plate, and this pair reliably cooperates with each other like a lock.

Respect to Lamy designers – practicality and style even in packaging!

The complete set of the handle is ascetic. Only a pen and one cartridge. Well, a piece of paper with advertisements for other Lamy models. It is likely that the store simply lost the rest of the paper or something, but I don’t know.

The most valuable converter for me was not included in the set. I had to buy it separately and not in this store (they just never heard of such a thing :))

Well, okay. No getting used to.

Construction (design)

Read more about the handle body here. When I took it in my hands (even in the store, and in the future too) I immediately fell in love with the lines of the body. Moreover, if I try to explain what is so in it, then I cannot simply and clearly.

I’ll try.At first, when closed, the attention is drawn to the only light external detail – the cap clip. It is both stylish and simple at the same time. Unusual in shape. I would say unexpectedly interesting. It seems that the pen is not the most expensive, but …

The body line is like an ordinary cylinder of black-matte finish (it tapers a little at the ends), but the coating, smooth tapering from the middle to the ends, a contrasting clip, integrity (the back and the cap close tightly, without a gap) together carry a sort of admiration. Maybe this is due to my craving for technology and technical education (I represent the quality of equipment, the qualifications of workers and the art of engineers who have developed a seemingly simple product, a pen that is flawlessly executed), or maybe there is something else…

Take off the cap – wow! (sorry for the frequent repetition of this Americanism, but if a product / service does not pass a simple Wow test, I don’t even want to consider them).

So, Wow – a festive section opens under the cap: chrome, a slightly curved shape, a strict Lamiev pen … complement the feeling of the pen’s stylishness. Just asks for a hand and pleases the eye 🙂

Handle – solid metal, solid to the touch tool. The content is fully consistent with the external impression.Rugged, medium-weight housing.

The

Studio is perfectly balanced – it feels like a glove in the hand. This is, if you write without a cap, as I’m used to. With the cap, the weight balance shifts slightly, but not significantly.

By the way, the cap is securely fixed with a characteristic, noticeable click. Moreover, it is fixed both on the section when we close the pen, and on the back of the case when we write, and also with a click – absolutely securely. This is not often the case. Another respect.

Refill System

Typical cartridge / converter system for modern pens.Lamy manufactures cartridges of its own form. They are not easy to find in the vastness of Russia, but Lamy cartridges are compatible with Parker cartridges, which are much easier to buy.

The original converter is required. Here Lamy was a little too clever and for Studio its own converters (type Lamy Z26) are produced. Converters from Lamy Safari / Al-Star (type Z24) are not suitable. The converter is of high quality, as expected.

Pen and Writing

When I first touched the paper with the pen (and this happened right in the store), it took my breath away – this utilitarian-looking pen (width M) writes so smoothly and richly that I want to write and write 🙂 It was then I learned that these are the same nibs found on most Lamy models, and Safari, for example, gives a very similar feel to writing.Does this mean that Studio writes the same way as Safari? Yes and no. Of course, the pen plays the main role in writing (we also mean the writer himself as the leading actor :)). But there is also the feeder section itself and the entire body. who make a significant contribution to this very letter.

I don’t know if the feeders are installed the same on Studio and on Safari, but they write slightly differently. Maybe because of the strength and different weight of the body, maybe because of the different shape of the section (outside and inside), but Studio writes more smoothly than Safari (we are talking about the same M nibs). This is not a critical difference, but it is.

Perhaps, the impression of the letter is also influenced by the appearance … 🙂

In short – the letter pleases with stability and smoothness.

Disadvantages

Well, where can I do without them 🙂 You have to be more honest …

Found two. Ambiguous 🙂 Maybe not flaws at all …

The first is weight. The handle is not light. And I, nevertheless, prefer lightweight pens. But this is exactly for my taste. somehow, he gave a friend a try to pee with it and asked: Isn’t it hard? And he told me: What are you doing? Just right! My weight!

And then I realized what Lamy’s engineers wanted to express (although who knows… :): the handle is stylish in shape. And if it were a little lighter, it would look like a slight deception … Just imagine you saw Studio, liked it, picked it up – and it is light! 🙁 There would be a feeling of “cheap stuff.” And here – everything is in order! Its weight only confirms the solidity (not ostentatious) of the writing instrument.

Second – chrome-plated section.

It is, in my opinion, a little smoother than needed for hours of writing. If in the classroom where you are recording the lecture, the temperature is higher than comfortable for you, then your fingers sweat a little during prolonged writing (not all of them, I am to myself). And the fingers begin to slowly slide closer to the feather. Suddenly.

I believe that the pen in this design was not planned as a school-student version (and indeed, Safari with Al-Star is confidently positioned in this segment).

But! If you make a black or light matte section for a black handle (and Studio is available in several more colors and with a different color and coated sections), then all the charm of a white-black (more precisely black-chrome) combination would disappear in a moment.

So here style prevails over practicality, as I see it.

Conclusion

So, in my opinion, Lamy Studio in black is suitable for those who value style and exceptional quality, are not inclined to “show off”, expect reliable smooth writing and German quality (Lamy pens are still made in Germany). Studio is great for those who, according to their duties or preferences, write during the working day or after, any technical or creative tasks, make edits, put resolutions, write reviews.

I would say that this is a man’s pen … But I know that a lot of the fair sex are active users of Studio. Although they tend to opt for blue or purple designs …

So “not only for men” 🙂

Great stylish handle! You will appreciate Studio’s style and engineering grace.

PS. Didn’t I over praise her? Well, no, after a critical look at the text above, I can confirm: everything is true. Based on my feelings, of course.

Here it would be necessary to subscribe with the help of Lamy Studio 🙂
