The 2012 Acura TL: Christmas Aboard Acura’s Best

My knuckles; white as the driven snow. My eyes; bloodshot, wide, and behind a twitching right eyelid. Tension running like barbed wire from my neck, across my shoulders, and down my spine. A slight throbbing in my temple reminds me that however I may hope for the contrary, my heart does indeed still beat. Welcome to the holiday season.

Yes indeed, while it might be hallmarked by lights, candy canes, and snowmen upon so many cards around the world, Christmas in Vancouver is oftentimes anything but a relaxing affair. Drivers with sodden brains drenched in Vancouver’s uniquely depressing drizzle occupy the roads during the day, oftentimes errant in their pursuit of errands, while brains sodden with something a little more potent fumble their way between the white lines at night. And somewhere in the midst of it all there was me, picking up presents for, and on behalf of, my entire family.

But if Santa Claus was the role I was doomed to play this year, then the 2012 Acura TL would certainly have been my Rudolph, at least for a week. Fresh from a facelift courtesy of Acura’s relatively new California-based design studio (rarely has the term “facelift” been so appropriate), the TL rolled into my driveway looking, from most angles, exactly like the previous model… with one major difference. While the car’s sharp creases and kind of awesome Darth Vader-inspired derriere certainly survived relatively unscathed, Acura has finally seen fit to tone down the garish shield that’s drawn so much ire since it was first shown in 2009. Replacing it is a similarly sized, but less contoured insert that doesn’t have the same cleft, beak-like lines and instead channels the same sort of shape as Acura grilles have for years. Coincidentally, it also moves through the air better, and allows for better airflow through the radiator. However, while it’s the most obvious change, it’s not the only one. According to Acura, the front end also possesses revised head lights, turn signals, fog lights, and a shorter overhang, although none of that was very apparent to me. Whatever they’ve done, it’s an undeniable step in the right direction.

Of course, having a less prominent prow doesn’t do anything to lower your heart rate when you start to enter into the fray that is the downtown core of Vancouver in the midst of shopping season. No, it’s at this particular time when a couple of Acura’s other updates come to bear. Although far less obvious than the new nose, the 2012 Acura TL also benefits from a couple key revisions to its six speed automatic. Although still equipped with a traditional torque converter, Acura has reengineered some of the transmission’s clutch packs in order to obtain transmission lock-up under a broader array of condition. Similarly, the transmission’s control unit also allows for driver-prompted double downshifts, and will compensate for any downshift with the appropriate engine blip. Although I can’t say how well that particular feature works (I never really felt the need to skip a gear going down through the gearbox), the revised clutch packs did make the drivetrain feel much more eager, and almost eliminates the laggardly attitude that usually accompanies automatic gearboxes. The engine, as a result, feels like a much more willing participant even though it comes into the new year with the same output as it had previously.

Not that the available 307 horsepower does anything for you when you’re trolling Hornby Street for a parking space, desperately dodging utterly unpredictable cyclists and pedestrians alike.  No, it’s at times like this that the hushed interior, soothingly excellent sound system, and a whole host of sensors and cameras come in handy. Providing as calm an experience as one can expect from what really is a pretty dedicated sports sedan, the TL’s torque converter-equipped transmission does a great job of modulating it’s speed at small throttle openings; something that the in vogue dual clutch gearboxes seem to struggle with. However, the big wheels, extremely low profile tires, and stiff suspension do prove somewhat unforgiving over speed bumps and pot holes. Opting for the manual gearbox would exacerbate this condition, as that gearbox’s installation is accompanied by stiffer, sportier suspension.

But with an automatic gearbox, the truth is, the TL remains an incredibly well rounded vehicle. With an exceptional all-wheel drive system backing up it’s all season credibility, a spacious and relaxing cabin, and enough performance to maintain an air of entertainment, it’s a car that’s extremely well suited to Canadians’ needs. Even better yet, it’s a car that does a damn fine job of fulfilling Santa’s needs too. Trust me.

The Anderson School District Five Teacher Forum is composed of the Teachers of the Year from each school in A5. The purpose of this forum is for teachers to come together for a common purpose in serving our district for the betterment of our students.

This year we would like to recognize teachers throughout the year that are exemplifying the qualities that A5 teachers hold so well. For the first nine weeks, we focused on the teacher that goes the “EXTRA MILE”! The recipient for the spotlight award from TL Hanna High School is Jayne Dingle! Congratulations!

Here is what colleagues had to say about Jayne!

“Jayne teaches English and is one of the yearbook advisors. She is the epitome of going the extra mile! She is one of the Student Government Sponsors and is instrumental in organizing pep rallies, spirit week, etc…etc…Jayne shows up early to do morning duty, teaches her classes, organizes/meets with her student government members, yearbook stuff and things (which is A LOT), tutors during afternoon power hour, and last but not least she is pursuing her Masters! She does all of this on a daily basis with an infectious smile on her face!”

90,000 A Christmas Carol in 6 minutes. A summary of the story of Dickens

: The holy spirits show the curmudgeon his past, where he became greedy, the present, where no one loves him, and the future, where he will die alone if he does not change. The curmudgeon changes and becomes generous.

Stanza 1. Spirit of Marley

The gloomy old curmudgeon Ebenzar Scrooge long ago did not love anyone and anything except his own money.

Ebenzar Scrooge is an old and gloomy curmudgeon who loves only money.

He did not understand the joy that the approaching Christmas and Christmastide brings to others, and disgustedly declined the invitation of his kind nephew to celebrate Christmas with him and his family. Scrooge could not understand why people were having fun all day and not working if it did not benefit them, and he refused to donate money to philanthropists to help children in need.

Hard and sharp, like flint, from which no steel ever beat out a single noble spark, he was secretive, restrained and closed in himself, like an oyster in its shell.

Continued after ad:

On Christmas Eve, Scrooge, very reluctantly, dismissed his clerk from work, closed his office and went home. There, the spirit of his late companion Yakov Marly, who had died on Christmas Eve seven years ago, suddenly appeared to him.

Jacob Marley – Scrooge’s companion, who died seven years ago and appeared in the form of a ghost.

Duk Marley told Scrooge that after his death he was punished for not striving to do good on earth and help people during his lifetime.

He did not want his former companion to suffer the same fate, so at his request, Scrooge will be visited by three spirits who, he hoped, would help him change. The spirits will appear one after another for three nights in the first hour after midnight. After these words, the spirit of Marley said goodbye to Scrooge and disappeared.

Stanza 2. First Spirit

In the first hour after midnight, the Christmas spirit of past years appeared. He took Scrooge back with him. Scrooge saw the town where he was born and raised, where he was familiar with everything from a young age. Then he saw himself in childhood and adolescence, when he, full of delight, enthusiasm and hope, was ready to share the joy with people close to him. Seeing himself this way, Scrooge, without noticing it, softened, his heart thawed.

Briefley exists thanks to advertising:

After that, Scrooge saw himself matured, when greed had already begun to take root in him. Noticing this, his longtime lover decided to part with him. She realized that with his cold prudence he did not need the feelings of the poor girl he loved when he was poor himself. She married another and arranged her family happiness. Scrooge could not look at himself this way and began to beg the spirit to take him away from the visions of the past. Eventually the spirit disappeared and Scrooge fell asleep.

Stanza 3. Second Spirit

On the second day, exactly at one o’clock in the middle of the night, the spirit of the present Christmas time appeared to Scrooge. He led Scrooge through his town of Christmas-decorated streets, joyful, well-dressed people, grocery store shelves with Christmas treats. Abundance and joy reigned everywhere on the occasion of the upcoming holiday.

Then the spirit took Scrooge to the home of Bob Cratchit, a clerk working in his office.

Bob Cratchit is a clerk in Scrooge’s office; is poor, has a large family.

In the large, poor family of Bob, fun and exultation reigned. Only once was the general joy broken – when Bob proposed a toast to Scrooge’s health. His wife very reluctantly joined in the toast, saying that only for the sake of Christmas she drinks to the health of this nasty and insensitive miser.

Continued after commercial:

This was the first toast of the whole evening that the family members did not drink with all their hearts. And then Scrooge felt pity for the poor and sick son of Bob, little Tiny Tim, to whom the spirit predicted death, if “the future does not make its own changes.

Tiny-Tim Cratchit is the little, sick son of Bob Cratchit.

Next, Scrooge and the spirit traveled to different places and watched the miners, lighthouse workers, who for a while forgot about their quarrels and adversities, celebrate Christmas. Their faces were cheerful, everyone wished each other a Merry Christmas. Finally, the spirit took Scrooge to the house of his nephew, where merry games and amusements had already begun.

How beautifully and expediently everything in the world is arranged! Sadness and disease are contagious, but nothing infects more than laughter and joy.

The only nephew in the whole city did not harbor anger towards his gloomy and rude uncle and, in spite of everything, from the bottom of his heart, he wished him a Merry Christmas, hoping that he would someday become more kind and improve. Scrooge himself, invisible to everyone, enjoyed watching the fun and amusements in his nephew’s house and even wanted to participate in them, but the spirit did not give him time for this, returned Scrooge to his house and disappeared.

Briefly exists thanks to advertising:

Stanza 4. The last spirit

Finally, the third spirit appeared. He didn’t say a word, but Scrooge realized that it was the spirit of the future Christmastide. He came to show Scrooge his possible future. In the future, Scrooge, to his surprise, did not see himself either on the stock exchange or in other familiar places, but he constantly heard from passers-by talk about the death of some evil old curmudgeon whom no one loved; many rejoiced openly at his death. Three thieves robbed the house of the deceased and sold things to a buyer in the slums, arguing that “he probably deliberately dared all of us during his lifetime so that we could cash in on it after his death.”

Then Scrooge saw the deceased himself, but could not see his face. He asked the spirit to tell him the name of the deceased, realizing that the same fate might await him after death. It turned out that the deceased curmudgeon, hated by everyone, is himself. In his entire life, he did not bring any good to anyone, and if everyone does not remember him with an unkind word, then they treat his death with poorly concealed relief.

The paths of human lives predetermine their end. But if the paths change, then the end will also change.

After Scrooge saw the grave of little Tiny Tim, and Bob, who, crying, carried a crutch to the grave.

Stanza 5. Epilogue

The third spirit disappeared, and Scrooge was back in his bed. He finally decided to change for the better. He sincerely rejoiced at the approaching Christmas, sent the most expensive Christmas goose to poor Bob and donated a huge amount to the very benefactors whom he recently banished. After that, Scrooge went to celebrate Christmas with his nephew, who happily accepted him.

The next day, when Bob came to work, Scrooge raised his salary. Since then, Scrooge has become the kindest and most generous person in the city and has earned universal love and respect. For little Tiny Tim, Bob’s son, he became a “second father.” The boy did not die of illness, as Scrooge changed and the future of himself and his loved ones also changed for the better.

The best role of Jim Carrey, without a doubt, except that in real life the cause of moral myopia is not so much stinginess as ignorance.Poverty is a separate topic, since they tend to go side by side, but since the Victorian era, everything has changed so much that neither wealth nor poverty are no longer the guarantor of morality and the risk of becoming a Christmas mummy can affect both the first and the second, although the former, of course, has more chances to avoid moral abuses, but at the same time more responsibility falls on him and which of this is more immoral is, of course, a moot point.

Charles Dickens’ Christmas Carol was published in 1843, after 7 years of Queen Victoria’s reign, where he could not find a better victim for his Christmas than some elderly, ignorant moneylender, who already had one foot in the coffin without any Christmas and through his own invented Christmas mystery, he makes it clear to him that he will not take his hard-earned money to the grave, and re-experiencing all the delusions and nightmares of the past, Ebenezer Scrooge becomes kind and silk and, most importantly, generous.

Of course, children will not be able to understand anything from all this, but what a gorgeous picture it turned out and therefore this undoubtedly wonderful and high-quality cartoon worth $ 200 million and brilliantly performed by Jim Carrey is more for adults than children, but it is not enough for adults either which explains, but how exciting and high-quality everything is presented, that you can revise it countless times and he will not get bored and honestly, it is not clear who distinguished himself most here, Robert Zemeckis with his directorial talent, Jim Carrey with his exceptional acting facial expressions, or all a team of talented programmers who, alas, will never be shown to us.Powerful and very high quality cartoon!

What is important – Zamekis very accurately adopted that spirit (in addition to the three acting ones) of the Victorian era, with all its technological progress and development (decay too) of the spiritual life of English society. That is why the film (specifically the film, not the animation) is saturated with dark mysticism, which will be too serious even for some mature audience, not like for children.

This is reflected, first of all, in the numerous allegories that the director used. These allegories are sometimes surreal, confusing and ambiguous. And here you can trace the director’s progress in the format of 3D cartoons, where the starting point was a somewhat simple and straightforward “Polar Express”, more like a fairy tale.In “A Christmas Story,” everything seems too real and immensely creepy. The main character of the picture, Ebenezer Scrooge, undergoes a transformation overnight, turning from a half-bony and grumbling old man, almost like Death, into a ruddy and frisky grandpa. And Zamekis will return to Death in the plot, which closer to the middle will already resemble an old man’s parable with all the classic consequences.

Perhaps this is the case when the atmosphere becomes a decisive factor in the quality of work – there is no problem with that. But the dark hour-long eyeliner to the utterly classic Christmas finale raises some doubts. These doubts are blurred, mixed with the magic of the holiday, and from that they can be interpreted in different ways. It is exciting, confusing, sometimes stubborn, but even after a dozen years it does not look without new conclusions … also age, or something, affects.

Dark and didactic Victorian story or Re-education of a bad man

Fantasy. An adaptation of the novel of the same name by the English writer Charles Dickens, which I had the honor to read a few years ago, right before Christmas. Well, now a little digression. For several years now, I’ve started the New Year’s tradition of watching ‘A Christmas Story’ on the last day of the old year, and ‘Irony of Fate or Enjoy Your Bath’ on the first day of the New Year, and this year will not be an exception. But back to the picture. Although filmed and based on, but most of the original text is intact, for which many thanks to Disney. Now, according to the good old tradition, we will consider all the pros and cons of this picture.

So, the pros:

1. The scene – the action takes place in Victorian London – in one of my favorite eras. In general, I like three periods from English history – Norman, Tudor and Victorian. It was an interesting, amazing, dangerous, terrible time. Numerous references, visual style – everything literally in the picture is saturated with this era.

2. Cautionary story – this story about the re-education of a very bad person who was reminded that good is of greater value than material wealth, that good deeds speak volumes. That by carrying good – you yourself are becoming kinder! And that’s just what I can remember in one minute. In addition, the picture carries a lot of conclusions, over which absolutely everyone should ponder!

3. Gloom – I confess that the original story was exactly the same, and thanks to Disney that they did not ‘bleach’ it in order to lower the age rating. The picture is saturated with gloom as much as the Victorian era, because only closer to the denouement the picture becomes brighter.I really love gloom, but here it sometimes frightened me with its resemblance to real life.

4. Visual style – this picture is more of a cartoon, as it was created using the Motion capture technology, which was actively used by director Robert Zemeikis when creating the picture ‘The Polar Express’. Moreover, the picture was filmed in 3D, and this is very noticeable, since there are a lot of plans with snowballs flying at you, various things and so on. I really love winter, and this picture warmed my soul.

So, the cons:

1. Frightening moments – children of primary school age definitely should not watch this picture, firstly because of its gloom, and secondly because of the frightening moments that are throughout the entire timing. Parents, be careful.

Mmmm … I couldn’t find any more, sorry.

A little about the main characters:

1. Ebenezer Scrooge performed by Jim Carrey – a wealthy London gentleman, curmudgeon and very unsociable, with a boring look and a nasty voice. It is he who has to reeducate. Even behind a mountain of animation and sensors, Jim remains Jim! My compliments to you old man. It is a pity that Disney spoiled the image of this character, creating on its basis the notorious Scrooge McDuck

2. Bob Cratchit performed by Gary Oldman – an employee in Mr. Scrooge’s office, a quiet and modest family man who cares about his loved ones The image is classic, but has not lost its relevance. I didn’t recognize Gary right away.

As a result, we have a very dark, frightening, but instructive story of the re-education of a bad person based on the classic work of Dickens but in a cool visual performance of the Disney company.Happy New Year!

Christmas Story Review

Part 1: About sleep

During the film, I thought a lot about what put him into a trance.Maybe he ate ergot bread; or he was hit by a canopy, but I did not notice. The authors did not pay much attention to this point, although I admit that I watched the beginning without hearing the voices of the main characters and could not have noticed. But it was clear that the old man had never been in a similar situation before, which means that something had happened to him the day before.

Another moment: how much the old man understands everything and how deeply he hid it all. (however, everything is very typical for his time) After all, it was his dream, and all the information: morality and common truth – were already in his head.

Part 2: About the main character

I see it this way: the old man did everything right. He always reacted to the signals that his body gave him, or he always prioritized according to his needs. If he had not become stingy with such a face (here I wrinkle my face, screw up my eyes, raise my upper lip so that my teeth are visible, opening my mouth, as if saying “s”), then I would not have become rich either. And I certainly would not have been able to distribute money to everyone left and right: children, employees, someone else. When he realized that he had enough money, that he was doing something meaningless, he changed – he became more generous, less inclined to make money. He listened to himself. My moral: do everything in accordance with your desires, inner motives, and always be sensitive to them. And also that you should not do something just because it is right and is expected of you, while not taking into account your own interests.

In short, the old man of norms, he was changing all the time, he climbed the social ladder, and he also remained a fine fellow. And everyone has nightmares.

Part 3: Overall

The impression of the film is something psychedelic and frightening, surrealism. Better watch the movie “Love Actually” or the melodrama with Sandra Bullock “While You Slept.” Cool New Year’s films.

Three journeys

During his long career as a writer, Charles Dickens wrote many fascinating works, but it was the ‘Christmas Story’ that, according to most readers, became his trademark. In his usual manner, Dickens ridiculed in the pages of the work the London customs of his time, which did not always correspond to the laws of morality. And the most interesting thing is that even a century after the publication of the ‘Christmas Story’ was relevant and continues to be so to this day. Robert Zemeckis, who shot in 2009 the most expensive film adaptation of Dickens in history, decided to turn to her.

As befits the classics, the main character of the film is Ebenezer Scrooge, an avaricious businessman who counts every penny. In his life there has long been no place for simple joy, and the old man’s whole existence is reduced to increasing his capital. But one day, on Christmas Eve, the ghost of a long-dead colleague comes to him, who told Scrooge that the Three Ghosts would soon come to him and open his eyes to the true state of affairs on our mortal earth.

The first ghost showed Scrooge his past, when he was not yet chasing money and knew how to love.

The second ghost turned out to be the spirit of a real Christmas and showed the fall of Scrooge, no matter how terrible it was.

The third ghost carried the hero into the future, and then. what he saw there, it was impossible to describe in simple words …

Zemeckis directed his film with motion capture technology and created a cross between a feature film and animation. It was not necessary to do this, because this technology has its own strange specifics, and nevertheless, the ‘Christmas Carol’ pleasantly pleased with its visual beauty, excellent music and great acting by Jim Carrey, who played several characters here at once.

My Bottom Line: Robert Zemeckis’ ‘Christmas Story’ is pretty good. And if you do not pay attention to the shooting technology, then there is nothing to find fault with here. Happy viewing!

This story begins with Marley dead … Not a great start for a Christmas tale, is it? But this is just the beginning.Ahead are amazing events and the most wonderful transformation of the main characters of this film.

Perhaps it is difficult in all world literature to find a more festive, magical and New Year’s work than Charles Dickens’s “Christmas stories”. This story was filmed many times and each time it turned out to be special. The animation film by Robert Zemeckis, in which Jim Carrey played the main role, was no exception. As a film adaptation, this creation was undoubtedly successful. The film contains all the characters and characters of the author, the charm of the Dicken text. The frames of the picture are filled with the real spirit of Christmas, wonderful expectations and the beauty of winter London landscapes.

In contrast to everything light and joyful – the dark and unfriendly world of Ebenezer Scrooge – the slave of wealth and money. Dickens made the name a household name; when we say Scrooge, we mean a curmudgeon. But Ebenezer Scrooge is worse than an ordinary curmudgeon. The thirst for money dehumanized him, hardened his heart, and darkened his eyes. He has forgotten what compassion is. Money! Only coins make him feel.Even Christmas (“the time when everyone can notice his neighbor and love him as a companion to the next world”) is not able to revive mercy in his heart. He laughs at love and despises those who enjoy Christmas. Swearing, he drives away his only relative – nephew Fred – the son of his deceased sister, who came to congratulate him on a bright holiday. The gentlemen who are collecting alms for the poor, he will be expelled with the words: “And let them die! Our population is already in great abundance! ” Even Christmas singers, in fear, fall silent when Scrooge walks by, and the street along which he walks becomes deserted and gloomy like his heart.

But even such a person is given a chance to change. On the night before Christmas, he appears the ghost of Marley, his once companion and only friend, who died seven years ago on the same night. All in chains and chains of his sins, the ghost, who did not receive comfort, came to teach a lesson to Scrooge – the same as he was during his lifetime. “There was not enough grace, generosity, kindness, compassion,” he screams in despair. It is symbolic that the spirit appeared precisely on Christmas – the time when you can repent and try to become better.

It may seem that the film is made for children, since it is animated, but this story has a deep philosophical meaning, teaches us to understand how important it is to have time to do good in life. No amount of wealth will help you avoid punishment for sins committed during life. Ebenezer Scrooge had an amazing opportunity to see his entire path from childhood to death from the side. See your mistakes and, most importantly, correct them before it’s too late.

Robert Zemeckis is a wonderful director who has presented the audience with such films as “Back to the Future”, “Forrest Gump”, “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?” and A Christmas Story. Both films are kind and really festive. Zemeckis masterfully created a New Year’s mood in “A Christmas Story”. The picture is very picturesque and beautiful, and the 3D effect adds volume and realism to it.

Zemeckis’s film, like the original work, was able to convey the main essence of the holiday – to unite, unite people, forget about problems for a while, share their love. The moral of the film is simple, but leaves no one indifferent. Special feelings are evoked by the meeting of the protagonist with the spirits of Christmas: past, present and future.Even such a callous heart cannot resist when it becomes an observer of your childhood, youth, friends of the past, meeting with your beloved. And a tear rolls disobediently down his cheek … This is a film that you watch in one breath. There is no predictable end to this story, until the last minutes it keeps the viewer in anticipation of what will win: good or evil?

The magical festive music of the composer Alan Silvestri, the snow swirling in the air with white flakes, the New Year’s decoration of houses and the joy of the approaching holiday give a wonderful mood. After watching the film, the soul becomes brighter and more joyful.

Today, when there are so many terrible events in the world, when people forget that they are, first of all, People, such films are especially needed and important for all of us – children and adults.

A Christmas Carol

What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you should think of such a magical and wonderful holiday as New Year? Elegant garlands and beautiful decorations that adorn the whole world? Tables filled with various delicacies and unchanging Olivier salad accompanied by tangerines and champagne? A New Year tree with an abundance of toys on it and gifts from those closest to you? Each of us has our own concept of what the New Year’s holiday is.One of the answers to this question is this film by the famous director Robert Zemeckis .

Perhaps it will not be an exaggeration to say that Charles Dickens’ ‘A Christmas Carol’ is not only one of the most outstanding literary works in history, but actually the foundation of the soul of each of us. Only this can explain the huge number of adaptations of this work by Charles Dickens and their equal success among the audience.

This film directed by Robert Zemeckis is another adaptation of the immortal work of Charles Dickens, which is literally transferred to the wide screen.Very carefully, reverently and respectfully treating the original work, as well as minimizing the possible fiction of the creators of the tape. At first glance, to a person who has read the original literary work or watched its other film adaptations, the picture may seem somewhat boring. But this opinion turns out to be absolutely wrong. Since the director and screenwriter of the film Robert Zemeckis not only very deeply understood the soul of this work, but also conveyed it so personally on a wide screen that the picture simply cannot not touch the quick and leave a mark in the depths of his soul.

In the life of every person there comes a moment when you have to look back and evaluate the quality of your life. It was this opportunity that fell to the lot of Ebenezer Scrooge, who faces the ghosts of his past, present and possible future. Allowing for the first time in my life to look back and be horrified. Realizing that he wanted to earn all the money in the world, he betrayed and abandoned his beloved, friends and even his own family. Realizing that there are many people who, despite their poverty, sincerely love and care for each other, and their home radiates comfort and understanding.Against the background of all this, literally reborn from a fierce, cynical, rude and ignorant avaricious into a very bright, cheerful, altruistic and kind person.

After all, what is the moral of the whole story? Happiness is far from being in money, and money cannot buy it at all. Happiness is to be close to your family, loved ones and loved ones, to share with them the best and worst days of your life and just share with them attention, care and love. After all, this is what personifies the New Year and Christmas, which, even for a few hours or days, but unites the whole family under one roof and at one table.Even those who fail to see each other, meet and communicate even for months. Moreover, the picture teaches how important it is not to lose humanity in oneself, to do good and enjoy life. After all, no one knows how much is allotted to us, and it is never too late to change and become better.

Completing his ‘hobby’ with fully animated motion capture films with this tape, the director of this tape Robert Zemeckis shot one of the best works of his career. A very kind, light, vital, piercing, deep and very strong fairy tale, which turned out to be equally relevant and educational for both children and adults.Repeatedly throughout the entire viewing, touching the living and leaving a trace that will give about itself in the mind for a long time after the completion of the viewing. Especially impressed by the total immersion in the look that Jim Carrey showcased. Perfectly revealing such a complex and ambiguous character in such a way that he would be willingly despised by the first half and imbued with sympathy in the second half of the tape.

9 of 10

A Christmas Carol is by far one of the finest adaptations of Charles Dickens’ classic and immortal A Carol.Practically transferring the content of the original literary work verbatim, but in spite of this, touching to the depths of the soul and making a strong impression when watching a fairy tale with deep educational morality. Equally relevant for both children and adults. Even for people familiar with the content of the original source Along the way, creating a wonderful example of New Year’s cinema, which easily recharges the viewer with the necessary festive mood.

PS: Happy New Year to everyone.May all troubles and misfortunes remain in the past year, and the new year will bring only the most joyful, happy and pleasant moments. Live for today. Enjoy life and may your family, friends, loved ones and loved ones always be with you.

Kazumoto

This is how the world works – there will always be people who are ready to ridicule a good deed.

In 2009, a new Disney animated film A Christmas Carol , a three-dimensional adaptation of the classic story by Charles Dickens, was released.

On the eve of last year’s holidays, Disney studio presented the audience with the film “Bedtime Stories” , which inspires hope that any loser can succeed, and the miraculous strength will definitely help him in this.On the eve of the end of 2009, so to speak, the post-crisis year, other issues are topical, and a completely different morality prevails – happiness is not in money! Whatever one may say, it turns out that Charles Dickens was absolutely right back in his distant nineteenth century.

The curmudgeon Ebenezer Scrooge, who has made a fortune from the misfortunes of other people, has long enjoyed nothing but the ringing of an extra coin. He refuses to communicate with his only relative, a good-natured nephew, and does not intend to celebrate Christmas. As punishment, ghosts appear to him on Christmas Eve. First, Scrooge is visited by Marley’s late companion, then the spirits of past, present and future Christmas pay him a visit. Throughout the film, uncompromising ghosts frighten the old man (as well as the young spectators gathered in the hall), upset him and try to re-educate him.

The plot of the story by Charles Dickens is one-linear, which is why the story that formed the basis of the animated picture “A Christmas Story” is more suitable for children than for adults who are expecting intrigue and constant twists and turns. In addition, the educational aspect is strong in the picture – in some scenes it is visualized and the pointing finger of one of the ghosts appears on the screen. However, despite the efforts of the filmmakers to portray festive London in bright colors, “A Christmas Carol” is an extremely gloomy picture for young viewers. An additional darkening effect is provided by glasses for viewing three-dimensional cinema.

At the same time, the cartoon impresses with the quality of the visual range. “A Christmas Story” is probably one of the most intense special effects and technological tricks of animation films of recent times. The director of the film, Robert Zemeckis, who presented the world with the tapes “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?”, “Back to the Future”, “Forest Gump” and others, once again confirmed the title of a genius of visual effects. What can you not see in “A Christmas Story”! The most exciting is the numerous flights over London, the most graceful is the almost complete unrecognizability of the characteristic acting performance of Jim Carrey as Ebenezer Scrooge.

Despite the gloomy picture and mystical plot, “Christmas Story” hits right on target – plunges the audience into the atmosphere of the holiday and gives the appropriate mood.At the end of the film, the smell of tangerines is seen everywhere and it seems that snow is falling in flakes on the street. Watching Christmas Story is a worthy way to temper your nerves and prepare for the outbreak of mass hysteria on the occasion of the upcoming New Year and Christmas.

I’ve been going to try to write a review for a long time, so why not finally do it? In short, this is my first.

A few minutes ago I finished watching the Christmas story of Robert Zemeckis, and after watching some impressions I would like to share. I have not read the Dickens story, which the film is based on, although I am going to give myself this pleasure in the future. But I doubt very much that the author intended it to be some kind of horror, designed to scare the reader, ’cause a feeling of fear, anxiety and uncertainty, create a tense atmosphere of horror or agonizing expectation of something terrible’ (quote from Wikipedia).Because this film evokes just such feelings. Of course, not to the full extent, as some horror movie would really cause, but still … Spirits, as for me, are too creepy. And the metamorphoses that occur with the environment of the heroes and themselves during their travels in space and time are no less eerie. As if this is not done with the aim of re-educating the protagonist, but with the aim of scaring him, plunging him into horror, and, accordingly, through him to convey these feelings to the audience. Maybe I’m too kind-hearted, but at some moments, as a 33-year-old man, I felt uncomfortable, what can we say about children? Although, I think, the picture justifies my rating and age category, it is still not the kind of fairy tale that can be seen in the family circle.

I didn’t like the shooting technology at all. Not a film, that’s for sure, a cartoon, no, it’s too angular, this animation, senseless or something. It was not mine.

The story itself is undoubtedly good and instructive. Money and fortune are not the most important thing in life, you cannot take them to the grave with you. Now is not the time when jewelry, household items and so on were placed in the graves of the deceased so that they would feel comfortable in the next world. And it is even more difficult to understand people like the protagonist of this story, who does not even have anyone to leave the accumulated wealth after death. However, such people do exist. But they also have a chance to change, although not everyone is given this. As long as you are alive, anything is possible. All goodness and peace, good films and Merry Christmas!

Magic and celebration

You are always skeptical about film adaptations of classic literary works. And the directors’ excuses: ‘you can’t know what the genius really wanted to express in the work’ are often unconvincing. And how, then, do the filmmakers themselves know what is in the minds of the classics? Such directors are heavily criticized.

But not in this case. Maybe because Dickens’s morality is easy and understandable, since the ‘A Christmas Carol’ written by him is primarily a ‘fable in prose’ for children, or maybe, since stories are well-known examples of niggards sitting in their offices and ‘wasting away over gold ‘, while the children are freezing and starving outside the window. This painting exposes many of the vices of Victorian England. It would seem that one must grieve.

But when you watch it, a wild childish joy envelops. We see people who rejoice at the holy holiday. And we ourselves rejoice. And the world is changing. Good wins.

The special effects and soundtrack are simply divine. When they show a view of winter London from above and play ‘God bless us, everyone’ by Andrea Bocelli – it’s just breathtaking. And what are the flights of the protagonist through the frosty air and the numerous vociferous exclamations of the characters ?!

The graphics are undoubtedly pleasing. With the help of motion capture technology, the characters are rendered perfectly. Sensors record even the slightest vibration of the facial muscles, which makes the characters’ facial expressions inimitable. I would like to express special thanks to Jim Carrey for the excellent play of 7 characters at once.

In conclusion, I will say that the film is perfect for both family viewing and romantic dates. And just look to cheer you up, you can’t go wrong with the choice. If I had the spirit of the past, I would ask him to take me 7 years ago, so that as a child, I could see this film in 3D in the cinema.Filmed at 10. God bless Robert Zemeckis and you, all people!

Drift tree: the best Christmas advertisement

Advertising is very annoying thing. But there are such unusual creative solutions that one wants to admire it like a work of art. New Year and Christmas are great reasons for inspiration. The selection of AutoNews.ru contains the most interesting holiday car advertisements.

Postcard from Volkswagen

“At Christmas, any car can look a little like a Volkswagen” reads the inscription on the postcard, which depicts cars sprinkled with snow that have become similar to the “Beetle”.

A welcome gift

Another advertisement from Volkswagen is a “Beetle” stuck in a chimney, which Santa Claus must have thrown at someone’s hot request.

Only Jeep

against absurd prohibitions

Employers often prohibit employees from doing something.

Sometimes the requirements are clear. But sometimes bans are absurd and illegal.

For example, there is a dress code – to wear business suits. At the same time, girls are allowed to wear only skirts below the knee and necessarily nylon tights with a density of at least 40 den – even at +30 ° C.

There are security-related requirements: you cannot install operating programs on personal devices. But some companies are not allowed into the office with any of their gadgets, including fitness bracelets.

There are firms that prohibit employees from smoking, using the microwave, buying competing products, uploading “shameful” photos to personal accounts, going on vacation during an important project, disclosing their salaries – the list is endless.

Tell us what was forbidden at work? What requirements did you have to fulfill? Were they logical or rather absurd? Was it in line with the labor code? What restrictions did you dislike the most? Have you tried to change the situation and what have you achieved? Do you still work in the same place or have you decided to quit?

For inspiration, the editorial staff remembered the prohibitions on their past works and shared their pain.

No piercings and incriminating photos in personal social networks

Anonymous
offended the hotel by caption to the photo

I worked in the hotel business for many years. Feels like the whole work consisted of some kind of prohibitions.

In hotels there are many strict requirements for appearance. It is often forbidden to wear a second earring in the ear, even a tiny one, and another piercing is out of the question. At the reception, the rules are stricter: for example, you cannot have more than one ring on your fingers, there are restrictions on the length and color of the manicure. You cannot wear a skirt without tights or stockings. One hotel demanded to wear a hairnet on a bun.

Previously, men were forbidden to grow mustaches and beards, but I noticed that over the years this has ceased to be followed. Ten years ago, everything was much stricter. Once I saw an official document that men should shave the back of their hands if it is too hairy.

Is it necessary to observe the dress code at work?

There was also a rule not to take pictures with celebrity guests and in no case post photos on social networks. You could get a reprimand for this. And in general it was impossible to publish any incriminating photographs.

For example, once I posted a photo with my colleagues and made a funny caption that did not belittle the hotel in any way and did not apply to it at all. But the PR department saw something offensive in her, called five minutes later and demanded that the photo be removed. It’s funny that at that moment I was not even an employee of this hotel.

The last job had a complex vacation system. It was impossible to rest during the season – in spring and autumn. And other dates were strictly limited: for example, if the report card says that you can take leave until February 26, then the 27th will be allowed to take only at your own expense, even if there are no objective reasons for this.

The summer vacation season turned into hell, when 12-15 people had to distribute between themselves two and a half months and manage to observe a complex system of who replaces whom. As a result, everyone went on vacation with their last gasp, and returning, not only shoveled their own affairs, but also picked up a mountain of strangers.

All vacations were also required to include weekends. Therefore, if someone was allowed to take three days for May, the remaining four he had to rest from Thursday to Sunday. Taking days from Monday to Thursday was prohibited. Although there is no such requirement in the labor code.

Session without study leave

In 2014, I worked for a large logistics company in St. Petersburg. According to the law, we were entitled to study leave, but during the interview they were verbally warned that they should not be taken.

My colleagues, who studied at universities, exercised their legal right and still took vacations during the sessions. The company was not happy about this – and colleagues were sent to work from the south of the city to the north. As a result, their travel time to work and back doubled, or even tripled.

No music in the workplace

listened to conversations of colleagues

I was forbidden to listen to music with headphones at work. The boss believed that this would interfere with my work and thinking with my head. To be fair, I was in the most junior position in an advertising agency and was just learning the basics of online marketing. Maybe there was some sense in the prohibition. But with the help of music, I was just trying not to be distracted by the conversations of my colleagues from the sales department.

Regulations for tights and stockings

From 2014 to 2016, I worked in the Moscow office of a large Turkish company. In large corporations, there are always many different standards: from signature rules to dress code. But in order for girls to have a regulated skirt or shorts length, it was here for the first time that I encountered.

Now I don’t remember in numbers, but there was definitely a requirement that the skirt was on the palm of the hand above the knee, longer is possible, in short – no. Friends even said that at first they were all greeted at the entrance to the office with almost a ruler. And one girl was even sent home to change.

At least twice a year, our company participated in specialized exhibitions. All employees had uniforms and shoe requirements. But the girls had additional restrictions on stockings and tights. On the eve of each exhibition, we were warned: flesh tone, no tanning effect and no lurex. And so that the density is only 40 den. It was, of course, forbidden to come with bare feet. It scared me terribly, so I took two spare packs of stockings with me to all exhibitions.
