15 Cool iPod Cases | PCMag

It’s hard to believe that the first iPod was released almost 12 years ago. Back then, the iPod was big, clunky, and—at $400—expensive. Despite the lack of Windows compatibility and the unusual scroll wheel, Apple sold more units than anyone expected. The company went on to revolutionize not only the way we listen to music, but the entire music industry itself.

As of October 2011, Apple has sold more than 300 million iPods worldwide and, chances are, if you are reading this story, you probably bought one of them. Starting at $199 for an 8GB model, a new iPod touch isn’t cheap (and we’re not even thinking about the $399 64GB model). The most recent version of the iPod touch (4th generation model) is much more than just an MP3 player. It is essentially an iPhone without calling capabilities. You can surf the Web, text between iOS devices over Wi-Fi with iMessage, sync content between devices wirelessly with iCloud, shoot HD video, and video chat using FaceTime.

This multi-faceted gadget deserves to be treated with the utmost care, which means covering it with a worthy case. Even if you have the stouter, sturdier iPod nano, you may want to think about protecting it, whether you are running on a treadmill or just running errands. We’ve rounded up 13 iPod touch cases and two iPod nano cases that are not only super cool but will also keep your iPod safe after a clumsy drop or two.

Macally 4th Gen iPod Touch Cases Review

Macally 4th Gen iPod Touch Cases
Company: Macally
Price: $29.99 for each model reviewed

If you have a fourth generation iPod Touch and you are looking for a case I wish you good luck. They seem to be few and far between right now. However, one of the companies right out of the gate with cases is Macally. I had the opportunity to test three different Macally cases for the new iPod Touch and each one would be a good choice. The choice you make depends on what you are looking for .

I had the opportunity to review the Clear Flexible Protective Case, the Clear Snap-On Protective Case, and the Snap-On Protective Case. Before I get to the specifics of each one, let me cover some features they all have in common. First, and most importantly the cases cover the sides and back of your ipod leaving openings for the controls, camera lens, microphone, speaker, and the dock connector. Each case will definitely protect your iPod in a lite (maybe harder) fall.

The cool “extra” each case has is a little microfiber square for wiping fingerprints (and whatever else you might have) from your iPod. The swatch works great, and I wish the size they gave you was a little bit bigger. In fact, I don’t remember trying anything that takes fingerprint off the iPod so well. With that said, the small size allows the swatch to be adhered to the back of the case repeatedly with the glue on the back of it.

All three cases are very lightweight and don’t add much bulk to the iPod either. On to the individual cases. The main thing that separates these cases is the look and material.

The Clear Flexible Protective Case (Flexfitt4) is a clear, flexible and thick plastic that easily fits over your iPod. It  says clear in the case description, but it is more like a frosted clear. It feels substantial in your had when it is on the touch and is a nice case.

The Clear Snap-On Protective Case (Metroct4) is also clear, but made of hard plastic. It is basically a clear hardshell case for the iPod. I am not a fan of hard shell plastic cases. It is the same design as the MerBoT4 that I discuss further below. I personally don’t like the looks and they tend to scratch over time. However, I’d rather scratch the case than the iPod.

The Snap-On Protective Case (MetroBT4) is my favorite of the bunch. It is almost like a cross between a hard shell case and a silicone case. It is basically a hard shell with a black rubberized coating on the surface. It snaps onto the Touch and it barely touches the front of the touch. In fact, I am amazed at how well it holds the touch in with how little overlaps the front edge. I really like the feel and look of this case.

As I said earlier, you won’t go wrong with either of these cases for your fourth generation Touch. They are all great products. It is really a matter of what you prefer in a case.

MyMac.com Rating 9 out of 10 for each case

Note: I was also sent the Anti-Fingerprint Screen Protective Overlay  (ANTIFINT4). I am not a fan of overlays, and this is no exception. They are very hard to get on. One speck of dust ruins it. Also, I did not like the matte/anti-glare look of this film. It also gave a different feel to the surface. It was like the Touch lost the smoothness. I prefer the glossy look of the iPod screen. Also of note- the packaging for the film states two films are included and you only get one. I was told this is a packaging error that is being corrected. If I were to rate the overlay I would give it a 6 out of 10.

Top 10 iPod Touch Cases of 2020

Editor’s Notes

November 05, 2020:

We decided to swap the OtterBox Defender for the to include a trustworthy waterproof option. It can be submerged in up to 6.6 feet of water and can also withstand being dropped from 6.6 feet. The was moved to our top spot because it strikes a balance between durability, price, and size. Although it has a slim build, it offers excellent protection from scratches and shock. If you don’t mind a little extra bulk, the is a heavy-duty option that includes an extra layer of rubber inside the case for even more reassurance.

October 03, 2019:

When updating this list, our top priority was ensuring that all our recommended models are compatible with the iPod Touch 7th generation. Thankfully, the iPod 5, 6, and 7 have nearly identical dimensions, builds, and port orientations, so don’t worry if a product mentions that it’s for the 5th or 6th generation — it will work for the 7th as well. One thing to note is that cases that are meant to accommodate the 5th generation may have a small hole on the back bottom left for the lanyard connector that was discontinued in later iterations.

We wanted to provide a range of cases that offer light, medium, and heavy-duty protection. We favored models with slim profiles and a snug fit that are easy to put on and take off when needed, even if they are designed to be extremely rugged, like our #1 choice the OtterBox Defender.

We let go of the Snugg Rubber due to unavailability, swapped the Style4U Crystal Bling with the to account for shifting tastes, and replaced the Boonix Hybrid Heavy with the sleeker, better received . Note that some of our selections, like the , have built-in screen protection while others have none at all (Ulak Clear, SLMY High Impact), come with additional protectors (LeYi Glitter Bling, MyTurtle Shockproof), or simply cover the screen with a flap like the . For the items that come with bonus screen protectors, be sure to use a prior to application to rid it of dirt and debris for the best results.

AppleCare+ Now Covers Cracked Back Glass on iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 Models for Reduced $29 Fee

Apple today indicated that “back-glass only” damage on iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models is now eligible for repair under AppleCare+ for a reduced fee of $29 in the United States, $39 in Canada, £25 in the UK, or the equivalent in other countries.

Prior to this change, cracked or damaged back glass on an iPhone 12 cost $99 to be repaired if the device was covered by an AppleCare+ plan.

In order to qualify for the $29 repair, the iPhone must be covered by AppleCare+ and have no additional damage beyond the damaged back glass that would prevent Apple from replacing the back glass, such as a bent or dented enclosure.

Back glass repairs at the reduced rate are not available on models older than the iPhone 12, according to Apple. More details are available on the iPhone Repair and Service website and in the newly updated AppleCare+ terms and conditions.

90,000 Large Photo Case Comparison for iPhone 5 with iPhone 4 and iPod touch

In the past, unnamed manufacturers of covers more than once gave a rough idea of the appearance of future iGadgets, and a similar story repeats this year too. The first photos of Chinese accessories of this kind for the iPhone 5 appeared back in July, but they said little in isolation from real gadgets. The Italian resource Macitynet.it got hold of such a case and published a lot of comparison pictures of it with the iPhone 4 and iPod touch.This photo session gives an opportunity to visually see the difference of the future iPhone from the devices of the current generation in size and get a rough idea of the shape of the device, which is clearly similar to that of iPod touch 4.

The first step is to pay attention to the thickness of the accessory. Judging by the way the iPhone 4 is in the case, the newcomer will be almost a third thinner. For comparison, below is a snapshot of the third generation iPod touch.

But even more impressive are the dimensions of the future device, namely, the width and height.It seems that the iPhone 5 will still get a larger display. Perhaps 4 , or even all 4. 3 inches . Although, this is a rather controversial point in terms of ease of use. The size of the iPhone 4 is versatile. It is neither big nor small, it will fit any hand. The iPhone 5, judging by the case, will look more like a stylish “shovel”.

In general, the shape of the new gadget resembles iPod touch 4, and, note, the volume control buttons too.

Nevertheless, it is far from the fact that the pictures above really show the iPhone 5 case, and not the fruit of the wild imagination of Chinese masters. Well, it won’t be long to wait. At least one would like to hope so. [Macitynet.it]

There is no better device for home video surveillance than an IP camera. With it, you will always be sure of the safety of your home during repairs or your departure, and you will also be able to control what the child is doing in your absence.

In the assortment of Xiaomi you can find many different CCTV cameras that can be built into the Smart Home system. Their connection often does not cause a number of difficulties, so we decided to compile a detailed memo for you, from which you will learn how to connect one of the most popular Xiaomi IP cameras – Mijia 360 Smart Home Camera.

Installing the Mi Home application

The first step to connect a Xiaomi IP camera is to install the proprietary Mi Home mobile application.It is with the help of this program that you can control the operation of the device, make the most of its features and capabilities.

The Mi Home application is available for installation on both Android smartphones and iOS devices, including tablets. After you have found the program in the Google Play Store or App Store, you need to install and authorize, during which you will need to select a location. Depending on the version of your camera (Chinese, European), it is recommended to select either Mainland China or Russia.Next, you need to provide Mi Home with access to multimedia files and enter the Mi-account (if it is not there, then you will need to register).

How to Connect Xiaomi Mijia 360 Smart Home Camera to Smartphone

To connect a video surveillance camera, do the following:

  • Connect the device to the power supply and turn it on;
  • Wait for the orange indicator to activate;
  • In the Mi Home mobile application, click on the “+” sign in the upper right corner;
  • Add Mijia 360 Smart Home Camera in the “Devices nearby” item (automatic activation of “Bluetooth”) or in the “Add manually” menu (follow the path “Camera” – “Surveillance camera 360”, simultaneously activating Bluetooth manually).
  • Grant the camera permission to use the Wi-Fi network;
  • Scan the QR code that appears with your IP camera.

Provided all manipulations are performed accurately, you will hear a voice notification, and the indicator color on the case will turn blue. At this moment, you will see the progress of synchronization on the display of your mobile phone.

After the device is connected, the program will give you the opportunity to move the camera to a specific virtual room within the Xiaomi ecosystem, name the camera as you like, and grant access to it for another user.

How to Control Xiaomi Mijia 360 Smart Home Camera IP Camera from Smartphone

Mi Home program has a concise and intuitive interface, which is not difficult to understand, even if you see it for the first time. In addition, before starting to use the device, you will be shown instructions for use, within which you will learn about all the functions available to you. Read the memo carefully, and you will not have any difficulties!

On the title screen, you will see a camera image with the ability to zoom using your usual finger movements. Slightly lower in the interface, several functional buttons are conveniently located to activate sound recording, create a screenshot (screenshot), select the video recording quality from 3 available options (HD, Low, Automatic). At the very bottom there is a virtual control panel for changing the pan and tilt angle for maximum coverage.

Video storage

To store video in the IP camera, you need to install a microSD memory card with a capacity of 16 to 64 GB (purchased separately). In Mi Home, you can find an information table that clearly demonstrates the “weight” of the recorded video in the video quality of your choice.For example, 64GB of continuous shooting in high definition format can be enough for 6 days of shooting. It is worth noting that a new video is overwritten over the old one if there is insufficient memory, so be careful.

Additional settings

In the menu in the upper right corner there is a three-dot icon that provides access to camera settings. There you can adjust various auto modes, adjust memory and grant access for another user.There you can also select the video quality and night mode, switch to the wide dynamic range mode for a more detailed image in low light conditions.

Administrative account details

All settings and rights to grant access to the camera belong exclusively to the administrative account. This allows you to secure your device against unauthorized connections, even if an attacker gains access to your Wi-Fi network.

At this point it is important to emphasize that if you are planning to change your smartphone, then you must first “unlink” the old account before synchronizing the Xiaomi Mijia 360 Smart Home Camera with the new mobile phone.
