Index Card Holder Recommendations By Environment
In this section, we’ll give suggestions on the types of index card holders you should consider based on what environment you are in.
The College student
If you are like most college students that use index cards, your need is to:
- Take them with you on-the-go (ex: bag)
- Study them semi-regularly to review for tests
If this is true for you, then these are the top 5 index card holders we suggest and why:
|Plastic carrying case||Small, light, easy to carry, fits in a bag or bag pockets|
|2||Spiral bound||Durable, no loose cards, like a small journal|
|3||Wall-hanging plastic sleeve||Improves memory and recall, promotes active learning, removes studying barriers, helps you study more often|
|4||Mini binder||Easy transport, quick to access info, fits in bag|
|5||Specialty binder||Durable, carrying capacity, fits in bag|
In The Kitchen
A lot of people adopt their own system for keeping recipes. Some people prefer online tools whereas others prefer physical, tangible products like recipe cards in a box.
Before buying a recipe box, here are some important considerations (remember: you’ll probably have this thing for a long time!):
- Long-term storage for many years
- Infrequent use (holidays, parties)
- Need to have a place to put it (out of the way)
- Needs to be functional
- Bonus: ability to organize by meal type
If the above 5 bullet-points generally describe you, then these are the top 5 index card holders we suggest and why:
|1||Plastic File box||Medium capacity, use dividers, long-term storage, infrequent use, durable enough|
|2||Wooden box||Looks nicer than plastic, durable, long-term investment, medium capacity, long-term storage|
|3||Specialty binder||Easy to store, preserves cards, easy to transport, quicker to find meals and recipes, easy to manage, ability to add more capacity if needed|
|4||Clear acrylic||Small, light-weight, usually has a slit to hold one recipe card for visibility while cooking, looks nice|
|5||Spiral bound||Good if you’re just starting out and don’t currently have recipe cards to store|
If you cook more often, or are in the process of learning, having your recipes in plain sight allows you to be more efficient in the kitchen. Our index card holder sleeve is perfect for this scenario if placed in your kitchen, pantry, inside a cupboard, or on the fridge.
We could have said busy “dad” here, but let’s face it, it’s usually moms holding down the fort. What some busy moms do – stay-at-home moms and working moms – is they use index cards to help manage household tasks, to-dos and schedules.
For example, here’s a post about creating your own index card cleaning system from Amanda M. In her post, Amanda describes how she uses a plastic file box and some dividers to divide cleaning tasks into specific days throughout the week.
Amanda’s system is not limited to just cleaning; it can be applied to many areas of your life for managing and processing tasks.
In general, the busy mom might need an index card holder for:
- tracking household projects, tasks and schedules
- delegating household chores (chore chart)
- planning meals (dinner ideas, recipe cards)
- working out
- daily to-do lists (what matters TODAY!)
- grocery shopping lists
- work or home office
If this sounds like you, then here are our top 5 index card holders that busy moms might find most useful and why:
|1||Plastic File box||Most common, inexpensive, easy, organizable, medium capacity|
|2||Wall-hanging plastic sleeve||Instant real-time visibility, hands-free (no sorting cards by hand), organized, easy to update, helps you prioritize and focus|
|3||Plastic accordion case||Expandable, comes with dividers built-in for a busy mom’s various needs|
|4||Plastic bins||Good for long-term storage, storing kids index cards, large capacity|
|5||Spiral bound||Small, lightweight, easy to carry, convenient, durable|
In The Office
See those sticky notes on the window? In an office environment, sticky notes are the accepted status-quo.
What do sticky notes do? They make information VISIBLE!
The downside of sticky notes are:
- they lose their stickiness and fall off
- clutters your workspace (if you get crazy)
- doesn’t proJECT the most organized appearance
If not sticky notes in the office, then what? Index cards for the office?
Yes! Here is our top 5 index card holder choices for an office setting:
|1||Plastic File box||Medium capacity, use dividers, good for storage and occasional use, organize piles and clutter, stackable, can label|
|2||Wall-hanging plastic sleeve||See your priorities, keep top-of-mind, track projects and tasks, access info quickly in real-time, easy-to-update|
|3||Metal card file box||Very durable, long-term storage for decades, large capacity, made for office|
|4||Metal card file drawer||Very durable, good for office desk, medium capacity, long life, made for office|
|5||Board card file drawer||Large capacity, good for storage, cheaper alternative to metal|
Developers use programming languages to solve problems. They are builders of things, motivated by learning as much as they can. The journey of a programmer requires relentless dedication and a true passion for it.
The reason programming is hard to learn is because you have to become familiar with SO MANY coding languages, concepts, libraries, classes, methods, syntaxes, IDEs, best-practices, and so on.
The average person isn’t willing to go through that pain.
Although developers are generally tech-savvy, many often prefer physical note-taking systems like notebooks or index cards because they are simply more effective for increasing knowledge, retention and learning.
Speaking from my own experience, using index cards to learn to code is not a good idea unless you have a system that allows you to quickly get the information faster that it would take you to look it up online.
If you don’t have a system, your index cards stack up, and the next time you need to find the ONE CARD you’re thinking about, you’ll have to spend time shuffling through them. This manual process is ultimately time-consuming and inefficient.
The optimal way to learn to code with index cards is:
- Learn something new
- Grab an index card
- Extract what you’ve learned to index card (in your own words)
- Name of thing
- What thing helps you do
- Minimal example of how to code thing
- Place index card in visible place (not a box or stack)
- Keep next to your workspace within sight
- Next time you need to remember thing, look at card
Why is this process the best way to teach yourself how to code?
Because the next time you need to remember how to do “the thing”, you just look up in real-time, remind yourself of the answer, and continue coding. No going online or searching StackOverflow for the answer.
Also, by actually using the notes you take, you are strengthening the neural pathways in your brain. A lot of people take notes and then never look at them again, which is a far less effective learning strategy.
What kind of index card holders should developers and programmers use? Here are our top 5 index card holder recommendations we suggest and why:
|1||Wall-hanging plastic sleeve||Instant answers while you code, active learning, efficient, increase retention, uniquely yours, large info capacity|
|2||Specialty binder||Large capacity, organize by sections, easy to transport and carry, add more capacity as-needed, quick reference|
|3||Mini binder||Good for beginner developers, easy to take notes, more convenient to carry|
|4||Plastic File box||Medium capacity, dividers recommended, good for your desk|
|5||Spiral bound||Similar to the mini binder but more like a small journal than index card system|
In this section, we will share with you the types of index card holders we’ve mentioned in this post so you have a clear idea of what we’re talking about.
A cardboard box needs no explanation. If you chance upon the right-sized box, there you go! Generally “free” with the purchase of something else (ex: shoes), cardboard boxes can last for years depending on how well you take care of them.
You can buy better-fitting cardboard boxes for index cards by searching for 3×5-inch or 4×6-inch kraft / cardboard boxes. Amazon and Uline are good places to start.

The idea behind plastic bins is, you find a plastic bin that is the right size to hold the amount of index cards you want to hold. It doesn’t get any more complex than that. Sure, you might be looking for a specific color, or for a feature like “stackable”, but it’s just a container.

Specialty binder (DIY)
In the niche corners of the internet, there exist 3×5-inch and 4×6-inch index card binder page inserts. The concept here is to use a regular binder or an over-sized scrapbooking binder to hold these polypropylene page plastic inserts.
See the links below for all the index card insert pages I could find!

- most are OK for archival-purposes
- fits most 3-ring binders
- may be too wide for YOUR binder

They don’t make these like they used to!
Back-in-the-day, when companies weren’t trying to squeeze every possible penny out of production, or using cheaper materials, you could find a durable, well-made metal index card box.

Video: Birthday Index Card Box + Blog Hop + GIVEAWAY
I send out a lot of cards. However, I’m not good about sending out birthday cards. I want to change that so I tried out a system that my mom has used for many years. It’s been working for me and I thought it might be helpful for you too! So… today’s video shares how to create a birthday card index box.
[All supplies are linked to multiple sources in the thumbnails at the end of this post. Affiliate links used. To watch the video in HD on YouTube, click HERE.]
This little box is helping me to stay organized… send more birthday cards… and makes me happy!
To create the monthly card dividers, I used the coming-soon Paper Smooches File Folders die and colorful cardstocks. I also decided to laminate the dividers by placing them in some laminating pouches and running them through my laminator. The pouches are inexpensive (I got a ton but you can get a small package) and I was able to fit four dividers in one pouch. I cut all the dividers apart, leaving a small border of lamination around the edges so that I wouldn’t break the seal it created. I labeled each month with my label maker. Man – I love my label maker! (By the way – you could save a lot of time by using store-bought dividers. But what fun is that?!)
I wanted a title card for my index box, so I stamped a sentiment and a balloon image from Paper Smooches Birthday Bash stamp set using black ink. I colored in the balloons with my Copic Markers to match my cardstock dividers. Since the balloons overlap, you get some fun blending in between each color. I also laminated this piece to keep it nice and durable.
I created my own birthday index cards that have all the information you need to stay organized with birthdays. (You can download it HERE.) This will be so helpful when it’s time to send out Christmas cards too. Oh, and I got the clear index box at Amazon… but it is out of stock so my friends at Simon Says Stamp have some on order and will coming soon HERE.) Isn’t if fun!?
Now I tend to go overboard… but there are ways to simplify this project. You can always use regular dividers that come in most index boxes and use regular index cards instead of the ones I created. You can also just stamp the months of the year instead of using a label maker or just use cardstock dividers without the lamination. Regardless of how you create it, I really hope the idea of a birthday index card box is helpful to you.

Debra Recommends 3×5 Card Contact Management System
Back in the good old days, before such things as computerized contact management systems, salesmen created a physical contact management system. I learned this system many years ago, while working in the Network Marketing world. For those of you who prefer the tactile sensation of a physical contact management system, but are finding that just having an address book or a notebook or a pile of papers isn’t working for you, try this:
Supplies (links go to the Amazon.com site for purchase):
- Index Cards (3×5 or 4×6)
- 2 Index card file boxes (also 3×5 or 4×6)
- 3 sets of dividers (size appropriate to the cards you choose):
Set one box up with the numbers in front and the months in back appropriate to the current date.
e.g. – Today is May 8th. You would have May, 8, 9, 10….31, June, 1-7, July, Aug…..
As each day passes, you put that number tab divider into the next month.
The second box is set up with the A-Z tabs.
For each contact, you make up 2 cards. One card just has name, address, phone number, and basic information and that card is filed in the second box alphabetically. (For easy access by name).
The second card is an ongoing tracking of every interaction you have with that person. So let’s say you meet someone at a networking meeting on 5/1. You make your first call with them today 5/8 to gauge interest in your services. They are going on vacation next week for 2 weeks. They are interested but could you call them back after 5/21.
You make a note of all the pertinent details on the card under 5/8 (where are they going on vacation, any personal details they mention, the fact that they are interested, etc.). You also make a note on the card “5/21 f/u call to pursue booking a gig (or whatever).” Then you file that card behind the #21 divider. If a contact says, call me back after the summer, you file their card behind the September tab. Always noting what the next action is on the card. Assume that you have no short term memory. Write everything down. Any information they give you about themselves, their circumstances, what they’re looking for, everything gets written down.
Each day you check that day’s divider and take any actions scheduled for that day. Every contact should have a future action scheduled unless they have unequivocally said, “No thank you.” Then you can decide to either toss the card (if they were a jerk about it), or clip it to their alphabetically filed 2nd card. You never know when they may call you in the future or send you a referral.
In this way, nothing ever falls through the cracks. Even if you only work your business 3 days a week, you just check the actions for the days preceding. Any calls you didn’t get to today, immediately re-file under a future date.
This system can be modified for 3 ring binders or accordion files. Whatever works for you. What’s nice about the index card is that it is incredibly portable. What’s challenging is the lack of space for copious notes. You can also get creative using colors. For example, venue owners could be one color, agents/managers another color, fellow artists yet a third color. Whatever makes you happy, helps keep you organized and supports you in taking action!

File cabinet Praktik AFC-06 is an extremely convenient and necessary equipment in any modern office for efficient work with A5 and A6 cards. The high quality of the product is evidenced by the GOST 16371-93 certificate, as well as the declaration of conformity with the Technical Regulations of the Customs Union “On the safety of furniture products.”
Details of the filing cabinet are made of high-quality grades of high strength steel with the expectation of long-term intensive use. This is proved by the results of industrial tests: with a full load of 30 kg per drawer, more than 50,000 openings have been successfully completed.Drawers slide out smoothly and effortlessly to their full depth thanks to telescopic guides. For best stability, the product is equipped with an anti-tilt device that prevents two or more drawers from sliding out at the same time.
Practitioner’s File Cabinet AFC-06 consists of six boxes designed to store A5 and A6 cards, as well as CD and DVD discs. To accommodate them, additional elements are required: compression plates and longitudinal dividers (they are not included in the kit, they must be purchased separately). All drawers are locked simultaneously by means of the PRAKTIK central key lock, which allows two thousand combinations, among the advantages of which should be noted the possibility of changing the cylinder and the supplied master key.
The surface is treated with a unique powder-type anti-corrosion compound, which gives the cabinet not only resistance to wear, but also an aesthetic light gray shade that will suit the interior of any office. You can also order staining in a different color from the manufacturer’s palette (when ordering from 100 pcs.this will increase the cost by 10%).
The product can be purchased either disassembled, along with assembly instructions, or ready-made.

Index Card Method: Interviews, Texts, Ideas & Shoebox | by Alexander Amzin
Stoick and writer Ryan Holiday taught me a lot. For example, constantly reading books (a habit abandoned after school and revived after 35) and keeping a book of notes instead of a notebook.
But his obsession with index cards I have always perceived as the sweet madness of a keen man. After all, there aren’t many extracts I make when I read books. Besides, I am much more of a digital person, and I sit down at the computer whenever possible.
I thought so until I read this article of his. Pause, get distracted by this link and a few links in it.
The difference from his previous explanations is very important – one thing is to organize your reading, another is creativity.Just at that moment I had an idea that I would love to work through if I knew from which end to tackle it.
Therefore, for a couple of weeks, such a monster has been living next to me.
The left half of the desktop
The shoebox is an ideal filing cabinet, for some reason it is the same size as 3×5 inch cards (you can order them on Amazon or Aliexpress; in Russia, oddly enough, it is rather difficult to find cards for a filing cabinet).
In addition to cards (many of which are still in the box), dividers (just a vertically placed card) and boxes, the data visualization guide, an empty cup, a red kitchen timer for counting 25-minute “tomato” work sessions and two piles …
One pile is 16 cards that I wrote out for an article about the Libra cryptocurrency (read it, it’s interesting). Another one, on which no inscriptions are visible due to light exposure, are questions for an interview, which will be released next week.
Interviewing with cards in hand is great because it allows you to focus more on your own goals. This can also help in negotiations – behind the THE BELL section, not only ideas for capturing the world are hidden, but also several cards with meeting agendas.
DIY drawer dividers – 3 detailed master classes!
In every house there are many small gizmos that are customary to simply throw into a drawer of a chest of drawers or wardrobe. It is not very convenient to store them so – everything seems to be in place, but at the same time everything is in a big heap, in which there is no logic or order. But you want to easily and quickly find and get the right thing without unnecessary gestures and just as quickly identify it in place after use. In this case, special separators were invented. You can buy them, or you can make them yourself. How to make do-it-yourself drawer dividers without spending a lot of time and money on it?

A little about storage systems
Cabinets, boxes, special baskets or boxes and other items, the purpose of which is to simplify storage of things and put things in order, are called the smart phrase “storage systems”. They are necessary for order and comfort in the house, otherwise, when everything is piled up in one pile of things, there can be no talk of any comfort. It is also impossible to quickly find the desired small object if it does not have its own permanent, strictly designated place. But if the storage of things in the house is organized correctly, then there will be no disorder, everything will be in its place, greatly simplifying a person’s life.
Storage systems for dressing room
Note! Also, storage systems allow you to optimize free space in the house without cluttering it.
Storage system for dressing room
Storage systems can be different in type and type, in size and purpose of use.So, first of all, they can be divided into open , which include hangers, window sills, shelves, and closed – these are cabinets, drawers, chests of drawers, etc. small. For example, you can hang a scuba in the same closet or put a drawer for small items, and in a drawer of a dresser you can place a smaller organizer or place dividers, which will be discussed below.
Table.Various large storage systems.
|Frame||These storage systems include everything that has a strong rigid frame. These can be cabinets and dressers, bedside tables and other furniture. Most often these are wood products, but there are also plastic variations. Items of various sizes and purposes can be folded into them, depending on the purpose of the system itself. Smaller storage systems can be installed inside.|
|Panel||Such systems are usually open, in contrast to frame systems, which most often have doors. They are wall-mounted and can be used depending on the purpose. So, the main example of such a system is an ordinary hanger.|
|Mesh||This is a suspended type of structures for storing things and, moreover, does not have a solid frame. Most often, such systems are made of mesh fabric and have many pockets for various items. They can be fixed on a special bar or hooks in an upright position. They can be used both outside and inside other storage systems.|
|Rods and hangers||These elements are necessary for hanging various things and clothes. They help to keep wardrobe items in proper shape, do not allow them to wrinkle and deteriorate. The rods can be installed both inside the cabinets and outside. Hangers can be of various types. Both those that are used inside cabinets and those that can be installed on the floor or placed on the wall.|
|Boxes||These systems can also be of various types, but most often they are part of a larger storage system. We are talking about dressers and wardrobes, desks and kitchen sets. They often contain just small boxes for storing small items and various utensils. Inside such boxes, organizers and dividers can be used to optimize storage of things.|
|Shelves||Shelves are usually an open version of the storage system, but there are also closing doors. As a rule, they are used to decorate a room or are used to store books, various bottles, etc. They can also be additionally equipped with organizers or be part of a larger storage system.|
Every woman dreams of having her own dressing room Storing groceries in a drawer
Lighter from liner
You can make a beautiful and original lighter from a cartridge case yourself! There is nothing complicated in the manufacturing process, you just need to have a minimum set of tools, basic skills and step-by-step instructions.
Small storage systems
In addition to large-sized systems, there are also all kinds of small ones that simplify the storage of small-sized items and prevent them from existing in the house in one continuous heap. Often they can be installed inside drawers of dressers, on shelves, or be suspended and located anywhere in the apartment. Everything will depend on the desire of the owner of the house, as well as on the design and capabilities of the premises.
Storage of cosmetics in a drawer
Let’s consider the main types of small storage systems.
- Pockets – Convenient storage systems for areas such as kitchens and bathrooms, as well as toilets. You can use pockets in closets, but this is usually impractical. They are a soft organizer with many compartments. Usually made of fabric or film.
Crib storage pockets
- Mesh baskets – Typically used as additional storage space for small items. Convenient to place in a closet or under a bed.
- Vacuum bags – the optimal solution for storing oversized winter clothes such as down jackets, as well as for transporting large quantities of clothes. They help to reduce the space occupied by things in the closet, due to the fact that excess air can be removed from the bags using a regular vacuum cleaner. The volume of clothing is largely due to this decline. The only drawback is that clothes wrinkle a lot in such bags.
Vacuum bag with valve The compression bag works like a vacuum bag, but without the use of a vacuum cleaner or portable pump.Air is removed from the filled bag by twisting the bag into a roll towards the fastener, after leaving a small gap in the lock
How to use vacuum bags for clothes
- Hanging shelves, racks, scuba . This is what you can buy in the same “Ikea” or other similar stores. They are usually hung on rails in closets and stuffed into them. Several sections are obtained at once. As a rule, such shelves have a fairly soft frame and, if desired, they can be folded and removed if there is no need to use them.
Hanging shelves for cabinet
Advice! Depending on what you plan to store, you need to choose a storage system as well. So, small wardrobe items can be placed in small textile drawers; plastic organizers are ideal for storing kitchen utensils. You can also store something in cardboard boxes, etc. Plastic and fabric items are great for storing children’s toys.
Stylish cardboard boxes
And now about dividers
Drawer dividers are special strips that are used to optimize the free space in any drawer, regardless of its size and dimensions. It is enough just to take appropriate separators. Usually they are made in the form of strips that are assembled inside the box in a spacer and allow you to create several compartments in it for placing things in them.
Egg container as an organizer for storing small items Even a muffin pan
can be used as an organizer
Note! Drawer dividers can be replaced with organizers that simply slide inward. They have several compartments.
Dividers are especially relevant for storing small kitchen utensils, they are also convenient to use for cosmetics, tools, medicines and other small things. If you put all the small items into a drawer without using an organizer, they will in any case get mixed up with each other, and you will have to look for the desired item for a long time. If there are dividers, it will not be difficult to get any thing, because it will lie in its strictly assigned place.
Order in a drawer in the kitchen
When it comes to storing kitchen items such as forks, spoons, knives, it is best to use plastic or wooden dividers. They won’t be as susceptible to moisture as cardboard or upholstered fabrics, although spacers can be made from a variety of materials. But for storing small items of clothing, cosmetics and other things, dividers made of cardboard, covered with fabric or pasted over with paper, can also be used. There can no longer be any contact with water, and therefore there is no need to worry that something will deteriorate.
Note! Instead of dividers for kitchen utensils, you can use small trays specially designed for installation in drawers. It will keep moisture out of the wooden bottom of the box. However, if there is a desire to use dividers, then it is recommended to stick an oilcloth to the bottom. It will protect its surface from contact with water.
Dividers can also be used in the bathroom, if there is a chest of drawers or a cabinet with drawers. And here, too, it is worth evaluating which is better to use – plastic, wooden or cardboard. Everything will depend on what needs to be stored. So, rags and sponges are well stored only in plastic containers with plastic dividers. But some dry personal hygiene items can also be placed in boxes with wooden or cardboard dividers.
will help you to neatly place your underwear in the closet.
Important! Bathroom and toilet – places with high humidity. It is better not to use storage systems that are susceptible to the negative effects of water. Otherwise, they will not last long.
What can be made of?
Spacers can be purchased at the store, but unfortunately they are not always the right size. So the easiest way is to make them with your own hands according to the parameter of the desired box. So, dividers can be made from:
Dividers for a drawer with your own hands
In addition, materials such as fabric, paint, oilcloth, paper, etc. can be used. They are necessary to decorate the surface of the dividers if necessary.
Cardboard dividers are easiest to make, but cannot be used in the kitchen. But in the room they will be just right. For the kitchen, you will have to make these storage systems out of wood, and even cover it with a protective varnish. You can also try making them out of plastic.
Wooden cutlery organizer
As auxiliary tools you may need:
- scotch tape;
- hacksaw for wood;
- ruler and pencil.
Let’s look at a couple of examples of how to create dividers with your own hands. We will use wood and cardboard.
Option number 1. Making cardboard dividers
Step 1. The first step is to determine the size of the spacers. To do this, you need to know the length, height and width of the box and, in accordance with these parameters, determine the dimensions of the storage systems themselves. Next, you need to draw the blanks for the dividers on a piece of cardboard. Their length will be equal to the width or length of the box, and their height – to the height of the box or slightly lower. It is important at this stage to understand what size the sections should be in the end.
Marking a sheet of cardboard
Step 2. Next, you need to cut out all the parts of the dividers with scissors.
The parts are cut with scissors
Step 3. Now you need to cut the film for pasting the spacers. You can take a self-adhesive version. One piece of film for one spacer should be sized to wrap the part completely.
Cutting the foil for pasting the spacers
Step 4. The foil should be pasted over all parts very carefully, avoiding the appearance of air bubbles on the surface. You can remove them if you iron the details with a card. Details need to be pasted over from all sides, even from the sides.
The parts are carefully pasted over with foil Removing air bubbles Smooth surfaces should be obtained
Step 5. Then you need to make notes on the ends of the blanks in the places where the cuts will be made in order to be able to connect the individual elements into one system. The width of the cutouts should be the same as the thickness of the cardboard.
Places of future cuts are marked.
Step 6. It remains only to cut the strips according to the marked marks. It is important not to cut them to the end, otherwise the system will not be able to assemble.
The slats are notched in accordance with the marking
Step 7. Then you should connect the parts into a single system and install it in the box.

Option number 2.How to make wooden partitions
Step 1. To begin with, you need to cut individual parts from a thin sheet of plywood according to the dimensions and the scheme of dividers. They should be the same height as the box. In total, you should get 4 walls and 3 partitions.
Plywood sheet marked for cutting Plywood is cut into separate pieces
Step 2. In this case, grooves need to be made in the side pieces that will help to join the individual pieces into a single system. The separators themselves will be inserted into them.
A groove is formed in the side part.Such grooves are needed for joining the elements
Step 3. Now all the elements of the future storage system need to be sanded.
Grinding the elements of the future structure
Step 4. Connect all the side elements of the organizer together. They can be hammered together using small nails.
The side parts are connected
Step 5. Now it is worth glueing all the corners with glue and smearing them with the same places where the separating strips will be installed.
The corners are glued with glue The places where the separating strips are installed are coated with glue
Step 6. It is necessary to fix the separating strips inside the box. Once the glue is dry, the storage system can be varnished.
Installing the dividers
Step 7. When the varnish layer is dry, install the dividers inside the drawer and you can use them.
Separators are installed and ready for operation.
Option # 3. DIY laundry organizer
Do-it-yourself laundry organizer Tools and materials needed to create an organizer On the side walls of the box, measure the height of the future organizer Mark the cut lines From the lid and the remains of the box, make internal partitions Glue the cartons on all sides with wrapping paper with a wrinkled texture While they dry, finish decorating the box Then for the outer Scrapbooking paper or fabric Exterior decoration of the box with thick wrapping paper At the end, decorate the base of the box On long blanks, make marks on the side where the glued edge is visible, and on short blanks – from the opposite. Then, when assembled, the grill will look neat Now assemble the grill and insert into the box. Catalogs and filing cabinets
The reference search apparatus of the scientific library is represented by the system of catalogs and file cabinets (card and electronic), which give a complete picture of the library fund, help users navigate the documentary streams of the library and, with the least amount of time, select information on issues of interest. The scientific library has an electronic catalog, card reader catalogs (alphabetical and systematic), general alphabetical and topographic catalogs for official use.
Alphabetical catalog (AK) reveals the contents of the entire library fund from the date of foundation of the library until 01.07.2015, located on the first floor in the foyer of the scientific library.
All cards in the alphabetical catalog are arranged in strict alphabetical order of the authors’ names, names of organizations and titles of books. Using the AK, you can establish the availability of the required publication in the library and find out which works of a certain author are in the collection of the scientific library. To facilitate the search for literature in the alphabetical catalog, there are separators, reference and reference cards. All catalog boxes in the catalog are numbered, the letters or syllables of the first and last description in this box are indicated on the front wall of the box on labels. This speeds up the search for the desired directory box and the subsequent placement of boxes in place.
Systematic catalog (SC) is a library catalog in which bibliographic records are arranged by branch of knowledge in accordance with a specific system of library and bibliographic classification.Located on the first floor in the foyer of the scientific library, it has been in operation since 1964 to the present.
The systematic catalog should be consulted in the event that it is necessary to find out on which branches of knowledge there are books in the library; it is necessary to select literature on a specific topic, issue, subject; it is necessary to establish the author and the exact title of the book, if its content is known.
Each branch of knowledge, topic, subject has its own index. Cards are grouped according to these indexes, reflecting the content of the books. In the National Library of South-West State University, natural and technical sciences are located according to Universal Decimal Classification (UDC) , and social and human sciences according to Library and Bibliographic Classification (LBC) . Indexes are indicated on cards, dividers, box labels. Each box of the systematic catalog has a label with a list of the main sections of the catalog placed in this box. Inside the box there are dividers on which information about the content of literature in each department and subsection is given. In addition, by carefully reading the information on the separators, you can find out in which sections there is literature related to the topic, i.e. the main separator (on the right side) contains index links and the names of the corresponding sections of the catalog.
There is a more convenient and less time-consuming way to search for literature in a systematic catalog – this is a search using the alphabetical-subject index to the catalog (AAP) . Otherwise, the AAP is called the key to the systematic catalog, i.e.because using it greatly facilitates the search and saves the user’s time.
In the alphabetical-subject index, the names are given in the general alphabet: the main, leading branches of knowledge, private disciplines and individual issues of these industries, all kinds of scientific problems, individual concepts, objects and phenomena.
Each of the titles is accompanied by the index of the department in which you need to search for books on a given topic or on a given issue. Taken together, the name of the topic or subject and its index constitute the index heading. The name of each question, problem, topic is written on a separate card with the index. The cards are arranged in alphabetical order of the first words according to the ordering rules in the alphabetical catalog.
Electronic catalog (EC) is a part of the library’s reference and bibliographic apparatus and combines the functions of various types of catalogs – alphabetical, systematic, subject – and allows you to perform a multidimensional search for documents on various grounds.
EC reveals the composition and content of the library fund of printed, audiovisual, electronic documents received by the library from 1985 to the present.

CATALOG AND CARD ROOM SYSTEM
DIRECTORY AND CARD ROOM SYSTEM
The system of catalogs and card files comprehensively discloses the content of the main and auxiliary collections of the library and media library. These are alphabetical, systematic and electronic catalogs, various bibliographic card indexes, both in traditional media and in electronic form.
Alphabetical catalog (AK) – a list of printed works, compiled in a special way. The catalog contains information about each edition that has ever entered the library. In the alphabetical catalog, bibliographic records are arranged in alphabetical order of authors’ names or titles. All AK catalog boxes are numbered with Arabic numerals using labels.Boxes are supplied with labels. The label contains letters, syllables or words that begin the bibliographic records of the first and last cards in the box. The AK answers the following questions:
Systematic catalog (SC) – bibliographic records are arranged by branch of knowledge. This catalog is designed to search for information on thematic queries. The UK answers the question – What literature on the topic of interest is there in the library? In the UK, a multi-stage search is carried out: first you need to find the industry you need, then, following the instructions of the separator, a specific particular question. After that, by continuous scanning of the array of cards with bibliographic descriptions located behind a certain separator, you can find the necessary material. A feature of the SC is the presence of indexes of the classification tables. They are affixed to catalog dividers and cards, which allows them to be organized into a coherent system. Cards in the UK are arranged in accordance with the classification table (LBC) by branch of knowledge.
Systematic card index of articles (SCS). In addition to catalogs, the library’s bibliographic apparatus includes a system of file cabinets. It is an addition to the systematic catalog, based on the bibliographic classification (LBC). On SCS you can get information about the articles available in our library and media library from magazines, newspapers, periodicals and ongoing collections. In SCS, articles from all subscribed periodicals by branches of knowledge are signed. As in the systematic catalog, the center separator defines the entire section as a whole. The cards are arranged in reverse chronological order behind the separators, i.e.That is, immediately after the separator are cards for the current year, and then in descending order. This grouping allows you to present the latest articles at the very beginning of the section. To receive a journal, a collection with the article you need, you must correctly fill out the requirement – indicate the name of the journal, number and year. SCS is conducted on traditional card carriers in the following disciplines:

Where to store MTG cards
After drafts and prereleases, there are more and more cards. There are valuable ones, there are not so much. How to store them?
Over time, players begin to accumulate cards: after prereleases, revealed prize boosters, after a draft, or simply boosters bought in a fit of luck. Only a small part of the revealed cards go straight to the decks.Of the rest I would like to leave for future decks, they will suddenly come in handy. Part of it is needed for exchange or sale, and most of it is simply a pity to throw it away 💰, but you need to store it somewhere.
There are a lot of options for storing MTG cards, and each serves its own purpose. Most often, a bunch of unnecessary cards, “paylo”, players keep in ordinary shoe boxes. Some part of the cards must be worn, for example, for exchange in a club – here, most often, albums are suitable. Let’s start with them.
Albums for MTG cards are reminiscent of albums for stamps.Albums contain valuable cards, just useful cards for future decks, cards for exchange in a club, or entire collections.
Inside the cover there are several sheets with card pockets. Sometimes sheets can be added, then there are drop-down rings inside to insert new sheets. In others, the number of sheets is fixed and they are simply glued into the spine.
Sheets can be transparent and opaque with different colors.
Pockets are available with top and side loading of cards. They say that cards fall out of the side pockets less often when the album is tilted. In my experience, this is true.
Another plus of side loading: no matter how you put on the perfect fit protector, in which you can store valuable cards in the album, on the top or bottom of the card, – no dust will get on the card.
Sizes of sheets are different: 2 × 2, 3 × 3, 4 × 3 and very rare versions, even 1 cell per page for a pocket version of the album.
Most often on sale you can find single sheets of 3 × 3 size.Special folders are sold for them, or you can use suitable stationery ring folders. You need to be careful with them – there are different systems of holes in sheets. Sometimes there are many, sometimes only three. And folders are on two or four rings.
Capacity: 90,080 18 cards per sheet of 3 × 3 format, usually from 20 to 50 sheets per album, that is, from 360 to 900 cards.
Mobility: yes. Comfortable to carry, fits into almost any backpack.
Why: for collections, storing valuable cards and exchangers.
Price: from 1000 rubles for a company folder for 3 × 3 sheets, plus from 20 rubles for a transparent sheet. Or 300-500 rubles for a stationery folder with matching rings.
More examples of prices
from 450 rubles 2 × 2 album for 56 cards (7 sheets)
from 700 rubles 3 × 3 album for 90 cards (10 sheets)
from 900 rubles 2 × 2 album for 160 cards (20 sheets )
from 800 rubles 3 × 3 album on 180 sheets (10 sheets)
from 1000 rubles 3 × 3 album on 360 cards (20 sheets)
Boxes for decks
Boxes, they are also dekboxes (from the English.deckbox) are used to store and carry decks.
There are simple plastic boxes, there are also hard plastic with walls in 5 mm, leather and metal. The boxes are usually designed for decks of 60 + 15 cards in double protectors (for Standard, Modern, Pauper, Legacy, where the main deck is 60 cards and 15 sideboard cards) and for 100 cards in protectors (for the Commander). They come with a pattern and one-color. Top-loading and side-loading.
In addition to decks, useful singles can be stored in decks, for example, for future decks, so as not to keep them with a bunch of other cards.
There are even special enlarged boxes, for example, Dragonshields. They will fit from 300 cards in protectors and about 500 without them. Conveniently, you can store multiple decks at once. But the disadvantage is that the lid closes poorly and breaks very easily. I broke two boxes, literally on the very first day.
Capacity: 90,080 from 60 cards in protectors.
Mobility: yes. The lids, as a rule, close securely, in a backpack the risk of opening is minimal.
Why: to store decks or a pack of singles.
Price: from 200 rubles.
Bundles, aka earlier fetpeks
A bundle is a gift cardboard box with a picture in which boosters and a pack of lands are sold, but then it is convenient to store cards. The volume of the boxes is small, but convenient for some useful cards. Holds 500-600 cards.
Bundles are released for regular premier sets 4 times a year. The box can be bought separately on the secondary market.
Box size: 180 × 100 × 80 mm
Capacity: 90,080,500 cards.
Mobility: yes. But it can easily open if it turns over.
For what: for a small collection, for some thematic cards. For example, add up all basic lands, or just lands (manabazu). Keep the cards of the last set, and throw the old cards into the box with the pile after rotation.
Price: empty box by agreement only on the secondary market, seen for 450 rubles. The bundle itself with 10 boosters and a pack of lands from 2500 rubles
Deck builder kit is a set for beginners to learn how to build their first decks. In addition to the cardboard box, there are 125 cards from the latest sets, 100 basic lands and 4 boosters from the latest sets.
Box size: 200 × 100 × 80 mm
Capacity: 90,080 approx. 600 cards.
Mobility: can be carried, but it does not close tightly, it can open, so it is better not to throw it into the backpack.
Why: like a fetpek, keep a thematic collection.
Price: empty box by agreement only on the secondary market, saw from 150 rubles. The set itself with cards and boosters from 1100 rubles.
Gift box is a gift cardboard box with 5 boosters, lands, plastic dividers and stickers, so that it is convenient to indicate where are the rares, where are the lumps, where are the lands, and where are the sets in the box. Designed exactly for storing MTG cards, divided into 3 cells.
Box size: 100 × 220 × 235 mm
Of the shortcomings – they have been discontinued since 2016. The last time was in Kaladesh. Now, instead of them, they release either giftpacks (nothing can be stored there, there is no box), or a VIP bundle.
Capacity: 90 080 2000 cards.
Mobility: yes, it is portable. But the lid opens easily, you need to keep it only in a horizontal position.
Why: for a good collection of maps. Convenient to store the Cube.I keep the bases for future decks and part of the collection in such a way that I did not fit into the album.
Price: empty box by agreement only on the secondary market, giftbox itself with 5 boosters and a pack of lands from 1800 rubles.
Some stores sell special boxes made of corrugated cardboard, in which it is convenient to store cards. Such boxes are sold unfolded in sheets, from which you fold the box yourself.
Boxes come in different sizes.I came across myself and bought 1200 cards and first kept a 360-card cube there with 125 base lands in the treads, plus potential cards for the cube.
– they are huge when unfolded, so it’s even inconvenient to bring it from the store so as not to damage the sheet.
– there are no separators, all cards are in one heap. If the box is incomplete, cards will fly over it.
Pros: Low price.
Capacity: 90,080 depending on version.Of the popular and available – 1200 cards.
Mobility: yes. It closes quite reliably, but from shaking or if it turns over, it can open. Everything inside can hang out if it is not crammed to the eyeballs and this will have a bad effect on the safety of carats.
What for: to store a pile. Pretty handy for a cube.
Price: about 150 rubles.
Boxes from Ikea
Boxes in the Tien series are sold in Ikea. There are high ones, it is convenient to store strong products there. There are also low boxes, just in height for an MTG card, in black and white.
Previously, they were sold with insertable cardboard dividers, and it turned out 12 cells for about 100 cards in protectors and 150 pieces without. The cell even holds a 100-card deck box for the EDX.
Box size: 250 × 350 × 100 mm
From the pros: a lot of cells, you can sign what is in a particular box on a special insert at the end.
Of the minuses:
– under the weight, the folding bottom can fall apart (I have never had such a thing in four years), the lid just covers the box and will easily fall off.
– the dividers are gone in the fresh version of the box, you need to cut it yourself out of cardboard.
Capacity: approx. 1200 cards in protectors or 1800 without.
Mobility: low. Rather, keep a bunch of cards neatly on shelves at home.
Why: it is convenient to store the cards sorted by colors and types.
Price: about RUR 300,008
Mini chest of drawers Moppe
This is a desk drawer from Ikea that looks like a filing cabinet. Consists of 6 drawers, each of which holds about 400 cards without protectors.
Dimensions 310 × 180 × 320 mm. There is another, bigger one. But you need to precisely make partitions in it or store sealed products in the lower compartments.
Of the shortcomings:
– there are no partitions inside the boxes, the cards are arranged in 2 rows and can be mixed. You can try to glue it out of foam board.
– processing is not perfect, perhaps better to varnish.
Capacity: approx. 2400 cards without protectors.
Mobility: Low. Keep a bunch of cards neatly at home.
Why: it is convenient to store the cards sorted by color and type. Without protectors (or varnishing the chest of drawers), it’s more likely just a pile.
Price: 1500 rubles.
A well-known and popular way of storing cards among MTG players.
Of the pluses, I can only name the availability, but the minuses, rather, outweigh.
– you need to fit the card according to the height,
– there are no partitions / cells,
– a lid that does not close tightly,
– looks sloppy, it is not nice to store it on an open rack.
Capacity: 90,080 about 2,000 cards per sneaker box.
What for: to store a pile.
Construction organizers are a little-known (I found out myself only six months ago, because it is not obvious), a cheap and convenient way to store maps. Not without flaws, of course, since it is not intended for maps. But the pros outweigh.
– difficult to pull cards out of full cells: no slots, difficult to pick up a pack of cards if the cell is tight (about 110 cards in protectors).
– rigid frame, cards will not wrinkle when carrying and storing,
– convenient to carry – there is a handle,
– the organizer is divided into cells and partitions can be removed by changing the size of the cells,
– a tight-fitting lid with latches, nothing will not crumble even if the box is overturned.
Capacity: 1500 cards in treads plus space for cubes and tokens.
Mobility: Yes, you carry it like a briefcase. Just perfect for carrying tons of cards in addition to your valuable card album.
Why: for a collection of cards, sorted by color, for decks or cube.
Price: about 400 rubles for the version from Leroy.
There are other versions of organizers, but you need to look for the height of the MTG cards. For example, the Stanley 42.2 × 35.5 × 10.6 organizer has 8 cells, but they are of different sizes and the cards will not fit vertically in the protectors, but if you put it flat, then the deck in EDH, packed in protectors, fits. So it’s even convenient to see the general on top of the deck right through the cover. But such an organizer costs several times more than budget ones and is not sold in every store.

It can be searched by name: Organizer STANLEY 1−92−749 42.2 × 33.5 × 10.6 cm.
Examples on the offsite, Beru, Online trade.
Depending on the site, the specified size may differ by a few millimeters. It is better if you try on the card right in the store, with or without a protector, depending on what you will store there.
Boxes of Fury
These are special plywood boxes for storing various board games.
