How do you apply gel eyeliner: How to Apply Gel Eyeliner (with Pictures)

How to Apply Gel Eyeliner

While no eye makeup look is complete without a few coats of mascara, a bit of eyeliner can take your makeup look from work to the bar in a pinch. Whether you choose to create your sharpest wing or take part in the invisible eyeliner technique known as tightlining, there’s no question as to the power of a swipe of liner! From pencil to liquid, there are plenty of formulas to consider. One of our favorites? Gel eyeliner! Keep reading to learn how to apply gel eyeliner, as well as our best gel eyeliner to use in your next makeup look.

Before we share our best tips and tricks for applying gel eyeliner, we want to make sure you have a good gel eyeliner in your makeup collection! The L’Oréal Paris Infallible Lacquer Liner 24H is the gel eyeliner we’re recommending you add to your makeup bag. The formula glides on smoothly for a clean, precise line that keeps an intense, high-shine finish from dawn to dusk. The formula is also super long-lasting, meaning it’s a gel eyeliner you can count on.

Packaged with an eyeliner brush, it has everything you need to become a gel eyeliner pro. So, let’s get to it!

Ready to learn how to use your gel eyeliner? Keep these tips in mind for flawless gel eyeliner application.

Tip #1: Use the right brush

When applying gel eyeliner, half of the battle involves choosing the right eyeliner brush for your application. If you’re creating a winged eyeliner look, consider using an angled brush. This will help you create a precise, sharp wing. Lining your lower lash line? A flat top eyeliner brush will do the job! Want a smudged, sultry eyeliner look? After applying your gel eyeliner with a flat top brush, use a smudge brush to soften the line.

Tip #2: Set your liner

Due to its creamy consistency, it’s a good idea to set your liner after applying it. You can do so by applying a black eye shadow, like the L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Monos Eyeshadow in Noir Cest Noir, over your eyeliner or by spritzing on a setting spray, like the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Spray & Set Makeup Extender Setting Spray.

Tip #3: Give your liner a second to dry

Gel liner may not have as wet of a formula as liquid eyeliner, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t any dry time. After applying your eyeliner, give it a few seconds to dry before moving onto the next step in your makeup look. This will help with avoiding any unwanted smears!

Tip #4: A little goes a long way

When applying gel eyeliner, you’ll find that a little bit of product goes a long way. Instead of packing product onto your eyeliner brush, start with a little bit and add more as you go. Too much product can lead to a chunky, messy line—yikes! We recommend using short, feathered strokes across the area you wish to line, then doing one final sweep of product to smooth and perfect for a seamless look.

Tip #5: They’re best for a cat eye

While you can use gel eyeliner for different eyeliner techniques, this eyeliner formula is best used when creating a cat eye or winged eyeliner look. This is because combined with a tapered brush, the smooth, long-lasting formula makes it easy to customize your eyeliner shape.

How To Apply Gel Eyeliner?

You may be interested in wearing a bold or bright eye makeup look. But unless you have got the eye liner correct, there will be something missing from your face.

An eye liner is the ultimate make-up product that helps you highlight the shape and beauty of your eyes in the best possible way. While there are various kinds of eye liners available in the market, like pencil eye liner, liquid eye liner and even kohl pencils that double up as eye liners, the gel eye liners are probably the latest rage that is being used by everyone.

If you haven’t tried out a gel eye liner yet, or if you have, but are still not very happy with the final result, here is a step-by-step guide that will tell you about application of the gel eyeliner along with some eyeliner tips:

How to Apply Gel Eyeliner

1. Before you begin anything, the first step is to properly clean your eyes, so that it does not have any dirt or leftover makeup.

2. Once you have cleaned your eyes thoroughly, dip the gel liner brush into the pot, and coat both sides of the brush with the gel.

3. Now dab the brush gently on the edge of the pot to form a pointed brush. It is advisable to use a flat, angular liner with gel eye liners.

4. Begin by lining in the middle of the lash line and move to the outside corner of the eye. Now gently lift the lid to tight-line the lash line. Do this only if your gel eye liner is waterline safe.

5. Next, apply the liner all the way to the inner corner of the eye. Try to keep the line thick on the outer corner and thin on the inner corner. Alternatively, you can also follow the natural shape of your eye.

6. Always line the whole way across the eyelid as this will help to open up your eye and make it look bigger.

7. Now repeat the entire process with the other eye. Try not to leave any space between the eyeliner and the lash line.

When you have finished, your eyes will look bigger and more defined.

Simple Tips to Apply Gel Eyeliner Perfectly:

A few simple tips can help you get the perfect result in the easiest ways:

  • Hold the brush in the same way as you would hold a pencil eye liner.
  • Clean the brush on a cotton-ball before putting it back, to avoid bacteria breeding on the brush.
  • Make sure you apply the eye liner with steady hands.
  • Always work any eye liner or eye makeup product with gentle hands.

We hope the above tutorial helps you in applying gel eye liners more easily. Though you may feel it is a lot of effort, practising it a couple of times will ease your worry and you will realise that it is actually a very simple process. Go on, wear that gel eye liner and flaunt those eyes. And don’t forget to tell us all about it.

How to apply eyeliner with an angled brush

A couple of weeks ago, I bought my first set of professional makeup brushes, and I cannot tell you how much they’ve changed my appearance.

My foundation looks flawless.

I have finally mastered the technique of blending my eyeshadow properly.

And I am amazed at what a difference a proper set of brushes can make when contouring and highlighting my face.

Overall, the brushes have been one of the best purchases I’ve ever made, but no matter how many times I practice, I have been unable to teach myself how to apply eyeliner with an angled brush. I don’t know if it’s because my hands aren’t steady enough, or my eyes are just oddly shaped, but each time I try to apply gel liner to my lids, I end up looking like a hooker when I drop my daughter off at preschool.

Which isn’t cool.

So I’ve spent A LOT of time on YouTube lately, and after trying all of the the techniques I learned, I have FINALLY figured out how to apply gel liner with a brush.

And since I’m all about making the lives of my fabulous readers easier, I absolutely HAD to share these tutorials with you.

1. How to Apply Winged Gel Eyeliner by Jaclyn Hill

I love this tutorial because Jaclyn makes the process of applying gel eyeliner look so SIMPLE, and while this is a winged eyeliner tutorial, you can easily leave the wing off for a less dramatic look. Oh, and I was particularly excited that she suggests the Maybelline Blackest Black Gel Eyeliner over the MAC Black Ivy Fluidline Eye Liner Gel because the Maybelline product is more within my price range!

3. Eyeliner Brush Tips | Makeup Secrets by Tati

This tutorial doesn’t include techniques for APPLYING eyeliner with an angled brush, but it is FILLED with fabulous tips and tricks on how an angled brush can help perfect your look. I particularly love Tati’s tips for using an angled brush to set my eyeliner with eyeshadow, applying mascara to my bottom lashes, and for correcting eyeliner mistakes (which I often make)!

4. How To Use an Angled Liner Brush by MakeupGeekXtra

While I was looking around our local beauty shop with my 3 y/o the other day, I noticed a bin of 150 degree angled liner brushes and wondered if they would be easier to use than your average angled eyeliner brush. So I did some poking around on YouTube, and this tutorial convinced me to order a JAPONESQUE 150 Degree Pointed Liner Brush because I love that you can control how thin (or thick!) your eyeliner is when you use it! I wish this tutorial had gone into more detail, but if you use the techniques from the other tutorials I’ve shared, I am sure you can master this brush in NO time!

5. Essential Eyeliner Techniques: Defined, Winged or Smokey by Sephora

This isn’t the best eyeliner tutorial in the world, but if you like the dramatic look of gel liners but aren’t necessarily a fan of winged eyeliner, the first technique in this tutorial is for you. It’s called the “DEFINED EYELINER” look, and I really love it. Oh, and the tip of applying pencil liner between your upper and lower lashes really does make a difference in making your eyes pop!

How to Apply Eyeliner – Best Eyeliners for 2021

Even though eyeliner is probably one of the first makeup products you ever purchased, it’s still, after all these years, somehow one of the hardest to apply. ’Cause unlike intuitive products like blush or foundation, eyeliner can go very wrong, very fast (and I’ll be the first to attest to that, considering my f*cked-up eyeliner has made me late to work more times than I’d like to admit). That said, there are some game-changing tricks in the beauty community that’ll help you apply eyeliner like a pro, and they’re actually pretty easy to master.

Ahead, 12 tips and tricks for perfecting your eyeliner every time along with my favorite products to get the job done.

1. How to Apply Eyeliner With Precise Lines

Elizabeth Griffin

The problem: You’re lining your eyes with a dull liner rather than with a sharp one.

The fix: If your eyeliner turns out thick and smudgy regardless of how carefully you apply it, it might be time to give your pencil a quick sharpen. Lining your eyes with a flat-tip pencil will leave you with rough, uneven lines, so keep a sharpener in your makeup bag at all times.

2. How to Apply Eyeliner That Doesn’t Transfer

Elizabeth Griffin

The problem: Your liner transfers onto your eyelids, leaving behind a “stamp” of pigment.

The fix: Transfer is annoying AF but also fairly common, especially if you have smaller, hooded eyelids or oily skin. Try increasing the height of your eyeliner so the line is still visible when you open your eyes. That way, when your eyelid folds and opens, your liner will stay put.

3. How to Apply Colored Eyeliner

Elizabeth Griffin

The problem: You are sick of classic black eyeliner but haven’t totally figured out how to wear colored eyeliner.

The fix: Keep it simple and accentuate your upper or lower lash line with a thin line of color rather than a full-on, super-intense block of it. Here are some of my favorite colored eyeliners to get you started:

Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner in Midnight

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Loaded

Revlon So Fierce Vinyl Eyeliner in Mighty Mocha

Dior On Stage Liquid Eyeliner in Matte White

4. How to Apply Winged Eyeliner That Matches

Elizabeth Griffin

The problem: Your lines aren’t even.

The fix: Rather than starting with a thick line, apply your eyeliner as thin as possible. If it ends up being thicker on one side, it’s easier to build up one side to match. But if both lines end up too thick, shave them down with a cotton swab (I usually dip mine in an oil-based makeup remover).

5. How to Apply Eyeliner That Doesn’t Smudge

Elizabeth Griffin

The problem: You are lining your lower lid with liquid liner and find that it smudges easily.

The fix: To keep your liquid liner from smudging and transferring, swap out your formula for a waterproof eyeliner. Then, top your eyeliner with a little black eyeshadow to lock it into place, finishing off with a sweep of translucent powder. My favorite waterproof eyeliners, below:

Maybelline Tattoostudio Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil

Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliner

Sephora Collection Retractable Waterproof Eyeliner

Neutrogena Smokey Kohl Water-Resistant Eyeliner

6. How to Apply Eyeliner With Curled Lashes

Elizabeth Griffin

The problem: You smudge your eyeliner when you curl your lashes.

The fix: Always curl your lashes before you apply eyeliner to avoid any smudging. Don’t love your lash curler? Check out a few of these best sellers:

Tweezerman Neon Great Grip Eyelash Curler

Covergirl Makeup Masters Eyelash Curler

Laura Mercier Artist Eyelash Curler

Kevyn Aucoin The Eyelash Curler

7. How to Apply Eyeliner Without Any Gaps

Elizabeth Griffin

The problem: You’re lining your eyes at a bad angle, resulting in gaps.

The fix: Sometimes it’s really hard to get close enough to the base of your lashes. Avoid an awkward gap between your lashes and liner by slightly pulling up on the lower half of your upper eyelid while lining your lashes. This gives you access to any bare spots next to your lashes that still need some liner love.

8. How to Apply Winged Eyeliner

Elizabeth Griffin

The problem: Your winged eyeliner is too thick on one side.

The fix: Save yourself a little time and a lotta frustration in the morning by using the angle of your lower lash line as a guide for your winged liner. Then, place a dot on the outer corner of each eye before using your liquid liner to make sure the sides match up.

This content is imported from {embed-name}. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

9. How to Apply Eyeliner That Looks Sharp

Elizabeth Griffin

The problem: You pull your eyelid before drawing your line, but your eyeliner doesn’t look sharp or precise when you release your skin.

The fix: Rather than pulling your skin, try looking to the side instead. So, if you’re lining the inner corner of your eye, look to the outer corner to make your lids taut without any tugging.

10. How to Remove Your Eyeliner Fully

Elizabeth Griffin

The problem: Traces of last night’s eyeliner are still on your lids.

The fix: Completely removing your makeup at night is key, since leftover product can interfere with your eyeliner the next morning. To make sure you’re starting with a blank canvas, clear away any residue with an oil-based makeup remover before you apply fresh eyeliner.

This content is imported from {embed-name}. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

11. How to Apply Eyeliner on Small Eyes

Elizabeth Griffin

The problem: Eyeliner can make your small eyes look smaller, which some people may not prefer on themselves.

The fix: If you have smaller eyes, you’ll want to avoid lining your entire eyes, since doing so can close them off and make them look even smaller. Instead, keep your eyeliner contained to the outer corners of your eyes.

12. How to Apply Eyeliner Without Looking Smokey

Elizabeth Griffin

The problem: Your smoked-out eyeliner gives you dark circles under your eyes.

The fix: Line your eye as close to your lash line as possible and then use a smudge brush, which is tightly packed and skinny enough that it won’t blend the product too low.

Eyeliner 101: How To Apply Eyeliner for Beginners

Looking to add definition to your eyes but not quite ready to improvise? Follow our quick and easy eyeliner tips and discover the inner makeup artist in you!

Practice With a Gel Pencil Eyeliner

Why do we recommend this type of eyeliner for beginners? Because gel pencil eyeliners glide on with ease. Take, for example, our award-winning Superhero™ No-Tug Gel Eyeliner. Available in 8 high-impact shades, this waterproof, sharpenable pencil delivers super saturated color without tugging on your delicate eyelids. Try this simple technique to get started:

  1. Gently lift your eyelid to expose your upper lash line.
  1. Using a pencil with a fresh point, apply the eyeliner by gently pressing and wiggling the liner onto the base of the upper lash line, using short strokes back and forth.
  1. Draw the line out until you reach the outer corner of your lash line.
  1. Don’t worry if the line isn’t perfectly straight. In fact, we recommend using your favorite eyeshadow brush to smudge it out for a more natural eye makeup look.

How to Apply Eyeliner for a More Dramatic Look

Once you’ve graduated from a gel pencil, you can take your eye look to the next level with a liquid eyeliner. Our best-selling Superhero™ Liner features an innovative brush hair tip that does the work for you to precisely apply rich, saturated color to your lash line. Here’s all you need to do:

  1. Starting at the inner corner of your upper lash line, bring the brush hair tip as close to your lash roots as possible. Then, lightly glide it across the base of your upper lash line all the way to the outer corner. To create a thicker line, add slightly more pressure.
  1. Bring balance to the drama you just created on top by adding a bit of liner to your lower lash line. This time, start from the outer corner and work your way in, stopping when you reach the center of your lower lash line. Lining your eyes all the way around may cause them to appear smaller.

Okay, Ready to “Wing” it?

Winged eyeliner adds length and shape to your eye and is perfect for adding a subtle touch of glam to your entire look. For the best results, you’ll want to use a liquid liner and this technique:

  1. Start with a steady hand—you might need to anchor your elbow on a table or desk. Begin application at the inner corner of your eye and gently glide across, staying close to your lash roots.
  1. Don’t rush. Instead, pause a few times as you go to check your line in the mirror. You want the line to look great with eyes open and closed.
  1. Press lightly to create a thin line or press harder for a thicker line. When you reach the outer corner of your lash line, bring the line out and up slightly to create the desired winged effect.

Timesaving Tip

You can simultaneously give your lashes a lift and add instant eyeliner definition with our best-selling Tightline™ Mascara—a 3-in-1 black primer, mascara and eyeliner! The groundbreaking skinny wand truly gets to the root of each and every lash for beautiful lengthening results. At the same time, it lays down black pigment between your lashes for a tightline eyeliner effect. It’s truly your multitasking must-have for busy mornings!

How to apply eyeliner after 40 and the best eye liners to use!

Using eyeliner really isn’t all that difficult – if you’ve got the right kind of eyeliner and the right bag of tricks. Start with the right preparation for your eyeliner.

Eyeliner Preparation

1. Prime

Prepare your eyes with an eye primer. This will create a more even and smooth base for your eye makeup. Try: Make Up For Ever Eye Prime

2. Eyeshadow

Put on your eye shadow before your eyeliner. This will help the liner stay in place and prevent that smudging that makes your eyes look shadowed and messy.

Choosing an Eyeliner

1. Type

Choose an eyeliner with a thin, soft point. A very thin line will define your eyes without making you look too heavily made up. Pencil eyeliners are popular, but tend to smudge and smear. If a pencil is your go-to eyeliner, opt for one that is long-lasting or smudge-proof.

Another alternative is to look for gel-based liners that will glide on smoothly and resist smudging.

2. Colour

Use soft colours to give your eyes depth and enhance your natural eye colour. Deep plum, grey and dark brown will define your eyes beautifully, in addition to shades of blacks, blues and greens.

Drawing out your eyes

Step 1

Begin at the outer corner of your eye and move inward with a smooth, gliding motion. Do not go all the way to the inner corner, where the tear duct is located. Stop the line when your natural lashes stop, or just before.

Hint: Don’t extend the line beyond the outer corner. If you do, it can potentially draw attention to crow’s feet or make your eyes look droopy.

Step 2

If you feel the eyeliner is too strong, simply wipe gently across the line with the tip of your finger or cotton bud (Q-tip), or a clean eye shadow brush, to slightly smudge and soften the line.

Jen is using eyeliner in a subtle way to accentuates and highlight her eyes.

Step 3: Bottom lashes

Starting again from the outer corner, line your bottom eyelids only halfway to place just a little colour along the lash line. Bottom eyeliner tends to smear more, so a little colour goes a long way. Hint: Finishing touch – Once you’ve lined your eye along the top and bottom, brush or smudge a little bit of eyeshadow over the lines. This touch of powder will help the liner stay in place. Eyeliner Fun If you want to be more adventurous, you can create a cat-like eyeliner by applying eye shadow to the outer corner of the eyes rather than using eyeliner. This creates a modern look with a soft effect. Are you using eyliner? Do you have more tips to add?

Gel eyeliner (32 photos): how to use, reviews

The eyes are the mirror of the soul. That is why the makeup of this part of the face is decisive in a woman’s image. In order to favorably emphasize beautiful eyes, many people use makeup in the form of arrows. Smooth lines are very difficult to draw, but gel eyeliner can come to the rescue, which very neatly highlights the features of the eyes and helps to make them more expressive.

Gel eyeliner is a very popular cosmetic used by many makeup artists. It is the eyeliner in the jar that allows you to apply makeup as professionally as possible and bring your eyes very beautifully. The main advantage of this type of cosmetics is that it is very easy to apply, with its help you can quickly and easily draw arrows on your own eyes and at the same time they will be very even and clear. In addition, the big advantage of this eyeliner is that with it you can adjust the thickness and length of the line along the eyelids. Gel eyeliner differs from the usual one in that it is applied with a special brush, such cosmetics itself is in a small jar. It can be easily shaded and done with any makeup.

The gel-based liner is distinguished by its durability. As a rule, these are waterproof cosmetics that retain their beauty for a very long time, in addition, the arrows can remain in their original form all day.You do not have to worry that they will wear off by the evening. A big plus of such an eyeliner is also that it dries very quickly and you don’t have to worry about the fact that it will be imprinted on the upper eyelid or be erased. Another advantage of such cosmetics is that it has a large amount of pigments that are responsible for the brightness of the color. That is why the arrows are as bright as possible and retain their color for a very long time.

This make-up is perfect for creating a festive look.So you can draw attention to your eyes, this make-up can become a highlight of the image. Also, this eyeliner is characterized by the fact that it is very easy to apply, since you can draw a line with small strokes and it is convenient to shade it, as well as expand and lengthen. Therefore, even those who are going to do such makeup for the first time can cope with this type of cosmetics. The only drawback of such cosmetics is that it dries very quickly on the eyelids and therefore it will be quite difficult to correct the mistake made when applying makeup , that is, for this you will have to completely remove this line from the eyes and draw again.

Many experts also claim that any gel-based eyeliner does not react in any way to weather conditions, including high humidity. It is also very difficult to erase it by accidentally touching it with your hand, so the makeup remains unchanged for a long time. It lays very well and beautifully on the eyelids and does not roll off if its expiration date has not yet expired. It should also be noted that compared to an eyeliner, such a product is very rarely irritating.Applying it, you will not feel discomfort, in addition, such a line on the eyes is almost imperceptible. Also, a great advantage of such a cosmetic product is its economy – one jar is enough for a long period of time.

A good eyeliner gel contains only quality ingredients and does not dry out for a long time. Very often, when creating such cosmetics, manufacturers include vitamins and other useful substances in its composition. It also includes only the safest and most hypoallergenic components, since the eyelids are one of the most sensitive areas of a woman’s face. Therefore, such products have a very soft texture and practically do not contain harmful ingredients.

This product contains only natural dyes. In order for such an eyeliner to be waterproof, it contains gum, and for the thickness of this product, various types of resins or ordinary wax are included in it.To add color, special colored pigments are added to it. The black eyeliner is made of iron oxide and the white one is made of titanium dioxide. Each specific product consists of different substances and elements, each manufacturer chooses the composition independently. But they are all made on the basis of a gel, which gives it such a structure.

How to use?

The main feature of applying a gel liner is that you can draw arrows with it only with a special brush, and this brush must be elastic and thin . Manufacturers often put such brushes in a set with such cosmetics, but you can separately buy a brush that is more suitable for you. It is quite simple to paint eyes with such a tool. Before starting this process, you need to sit in a well-lit place in order to draw the most even arrows.

You need to fix your hand very correctly so that it does not suddenly flinch and the line does not smear. You can place your elbow on a table, windowsill, or other hard surface.

After completing all the preparatory procedures and applying the foundation on the face, you can proceed to drawing the arrows. To do this, you need to dip the eyeliner brush into a jar with eyeliner and take a small amount on it. Then you need to draw a thin line starting from the inside of the eye. It is better to draw the line not entirely, but with small short strokes, slowly moving to the outer edge of the eye. After you reach the end of your eyelid, you can slightly bend the strip upwards and then gently expand it.

You can also shade the arrow, thereby making it more smoky. If you want to highlight the eyes more vividly, then you can also draw this line at the bottom of the outer corner of the eye. Now your eye makeup will be finished, you can simply rinse the brush, and the eyeliner itself will dry very quickly on the eyes, you do not have to wait.

How to wash off?

All gel eyeliners have a very stable structure and are often difficult to remove with plain water. That is why all experts advise using special makeup removers for this procedure. Make-up removers help to gently remove makeup and prevent damage to the skin around your eyes. It is best not to use regular soap for this to avoid irritation and redness of the eyes. If you do not have a special tool for removing such eyeliner at hand, you can replace it with ordinary vegetable oil, it is better if it is olive oil. This method is also quite effective, but it will be a little more difficult to remove makeup from the eyes in the form of an eyeliner gel this way.

How to dilute?

Since the gel-based eyeliner is in a jar, you will have to open it often, and while you are doing your makeup, this product will remain open.Since its base consists of a gel, it can dry out rather quickly. In order to avoid this, it is necessary to close the lid of the container where it is located as tightly as possible and try to keep it open for as little time as possible. There are many ways in which you can dilute such eyeliner if it is dry. In order to revive the eye gel, you can add some liquids to it and mix gently. Thus, you can extend its service life by a month, or even two.

The most common way is to add a drop of vegetable oil to this eyeliner. Peach seed oil, almond oil can be used. If you do not have the opportunity to find these types of oils, you can use the more common and popular option – olive. One or two drops will be enough to thin this eyeliner. And after that, it is better to leave it for about half a day, so that its consistency becomes the most uniform.

Some experts recommend using a very simple option to thin this eyeliner. You can drop one drop of aloe juice into it. Thus, this product will receive a more pleasant consistency and will be saturated with useful vitamins and other substances. But this method will extend the service life by only one to two weeks. Also, some women use regular alcohol or vodka, they can also be replaced with perfume. You only need one drop per standard tube to restore this cosmetic product to its previous consistency. You can also use distilled water, contact lens storage fluid, or purified water such as thermal water to dilute it. These are very simple and safe methods, while preventing infection or harmful bacteria from entering your cosmetic product.

You can also use a regular face toner or water, but the effect of such products will be very short-lived, your gel liner will dry out again soon. Cosmetologists recommend using a make-up remover to dilute such cosmetics, and it must be oil-based. But this method of dilution has one significant drawback: your eyeliner will very quickly lose its durability. Its consistency will change slightly and it will not be able to last so long.

The most common way that many women use is to warm up the jar with this cosmetic product. In order to restore the eyeliner in this way, it is necessary to very tightly wrap the cap with this agent and place it in a container with hot water for 10-15 minutes. Thus, your product will become more liquid and it will be easier to lay on the eyelids, but this method is also not very effective, because as it cools, such cosmetics will harden again and change their structure in the opposite direction.

The simplest and most effective way to dilute the gel liner is to buy a special product that is designed specifically for this purpose. With the help of a thinner, you can maximize its service life and not damage the structure.

With the help of a gel eyeliner, you can create the most interesting and varied types of makeup. White eyeliner or its creamy shades are perfect for daytime make-up. If you want to make your look brighter and more interesting, you can use purple, blue or other bright and unusual shades of such a cosmetic product. They will help bring out the color of your eyes and make them stand out. This option is perfect for a party, because you can choose the color of the arrow to match your dress or even your purse.

Brown or black eyeliner is the perfect solution for evening wear. Make-up with any such gel is carried out after the foundation has been applied to the eyelids. Then you can use shadows that will overlap with the color of the gel liner, and only then you can complete the makeup with beautiful even arrows. If you plan to make a daily make-up with such a cosmetic product, you can bring the line only to the edge of the eyelid, without bending it up. If you are doing evening makeup, it would be better to drive it up or draw arrows, creating the effect of a cat’s eye, that is, to bring your eyes in the outer and inner corners with sharp bends. This type of makeup looks very impressive and unusual, it visually enlarges the eyes and makes them brighter and more expressive.

Gel eyeliner: tips for use

Arrows in the corners of the eyelids add expression, eyelashes voluminous, and visually correct the shape of the eyes. Sometimes it is difficult to choose the perfect product that will be easy to apply and hold for a long time. Eyeliner does not always help with this task.Fortunately, the beauty industry is not standing still, offering shooter lovers the best tools for drawing them, including gel eyeliner.

What is gel eyeliner

Gel eyeliner is a cosmetic product for creating makeup on the eyelids in the form of a gel. Supplied in jars up to 5 ml or in tubes. Complete with application brush. Its consistency can be different – thick or liquid. Regardless of this, the product has a homogeneous soft texture and easily adheres to the skin. The composition often contains silicones, they increase the durability. Therefore, the product can also be called silicone eyeliner.

The color palette is varied, the most common shade is classic black. You can find brown, blue, purple, gray and green. But this is not the limit: if you wish, it will not be difficult to find a gel eyeliner of any shade. The texture is matte or glossy, with shimmer or mother-of-pearl.

Pros and cons of gel eyeliner

Due to its texture, such a product has a lot of advantages over its counterparts:

90 120
  • , after application, can dry quickly for a century, creating a long-lasting coating for the whole day;
  • the composition of the gel is highly pigmented, the arrows are bright even with one layer of application;
  • there is no need to draw arrows with a solid strip, you can do it with strokes, so even a beginner can handle drawing;
  • You can feather the line immediately after drawing the arrow.
  • Fast drying is not only a plus, but also a minus of the product. If you apply makeup slowly, there is a risk of getting a sloppy line.

The shelf life of the gel is limited and is only 6 months. After this time has elapsed, it solidifies, becomes unusable. You can dilute the eyeliner if it has dried before the expiration date has passed by various means. We will talk about them further.

How to choose a gel eyeliner

It will not be difficult to choose a high-quality gel eyeliner if you adhere to the following rules:

    90 120
  • It is better to buy a product that does not exceed 5 ml, since it will be difficult to use up a larger one before the expiration date.
  • Before buying, be sure to test in the palm of your hand. To do this, put some gel on a brush and draw a line on the skin, it should turn out to be clear and even, uniform in color. After 5-10 minutes after application, the line should not crack or crumble.
  • On visual inspection, the texture of the gel should be uniform, without lumps.
  • It is important to check the expiration date before purchasing.
  • You also need to inspect the included brush. It should be elastic, without protruding or falling out villi. It is advisable to check whether it is convenient to use it.
  • It will not be superfluous to familiarize yourself with the instructions for the product. You also need to make sure that you have a product in your home arsenal that will help wash the gel out of your eyes.

    How to apply gel eyeliner

Gel eyeliner should be applied to the eyes in a well-lit room, observing the correct sequence of cosmetics in make-up:

    1. If you plan to use eyeshadow, then apply it immediately.
    2. Take a little bit of gel onto the brush with twisting movements.
    3. Remove excess product from the brush.
    4. Starting at the inner corner, draw a short stroke towards the outer edge. If the eyes are brought up for daytime makeup, then stop at this stage.

For evening make-up, turn the arrow at the outer corner of the eye a little up. After all the manipulations, you need to tightly close the lid of the jar of gel, wash the brush with warm water and soap.

How to wash off gel liner

Removing gel liner from your eyes is easy if you follow the instructions on the package. And there is also a technique due to which the product is easy to wash off in just a few minutes. To do this, you must use your usual makeup remover: milk, hydrophilic oil, emulsion. You need to put a few drops of cleaning liquid on cotton pads, put them on the eye area and let stand for 5 minutes. Then wipe off the remnants of the eyeliner with light movements.

How can you dilute the eyeliner

Despite the fact that the amount of the product is very small, many girls do not have time to use it to the end – the eyeliner dries up. This happens for a number of reasons, including a loose lid, frequent contact of the product with air.

If your eyeliner is dry, vegetable oil will help bring it back to life. To do this, you need to drop it into a container with gel and close it with a lid. After a while, the consistency will become more pliable.Remember: this method is not a panacea. If you often dilute the eyeliner with oil, then its texture will be disturbed, the cosmetic will become unusable.

Rating of TOP-5 best brands of gel eyeliners

The demand for gel eyeliners is growing, so many manufacturers have several such cosmetics in their lineup. Unfortunately, not all products on the market meet the requirements for a quality gel product. The ranking includes well-known manufacturers of cosmetics.

    Mac Gel Liner

Initially, the brand’s products were created for makeup artists and intended for models and actresses. Gradually, the high quality of professional cosmetics attracted the attention of the general public. All brand products combine three main qualities – durability, safe composition and availability. Longwear PRO LONGWEAR FLUIDLINE eyeliner is available in 12 shades.

Supplied in glass jars as a washer with a screw cap. The brush is not included. The gel consistency is very light, absolutely not dense. Easy to apply to the brush and glides over the skin of the eyelids. The product is good for shading. The finish is matte.

    Bobbi Brown

Bobbi Brown long-wear gel eyeliner is available in eight shades. The brush is not included. All colors are well pigmented, allowing you to draw a bright, clear arrow. Suitable for evening and natural daytime make-up.

When choosing your product, it is important to conduct an allergy test. Even if the manufacturer calls the product hypoallergenic, the possibility of a reaction cannot be ruled out. You can test the eyeliner on the elbow: if after 30 minutes there is no irritation, you can take it. Thus, it will be possible to purchase a tool that will not harm and will delight for a long time.

Gel eyeliner – what is it?

Beautiful arrows are able to dilute any image.Eyeliner makes the eyes more expressive and attractive. Thin arrows hold for daytime makeup. For an evening make-up, thick lines are drawn, twisted upward. Many girls think that arrows are vulgar and that such makeup does not suit them. In fact, every girl can bring her eyes. The main thing is to know which tool to use and how to draw arrows. Clear and even lines are obtained when using a gel eyeliner. Consider what these products are and how to use cosmetics.

    What is gel eyeliner?

Unlike the usual pencil or felt-tip eyeliner, this look differs in structure and design. The eyeliner is placed in round jars. The set includes a special brush. If there is no brush, you will have to purchase it separately.

What is gel eyeliner? This is an average mass in consistency, similar to mascara. This look is thicker than liquid eyeliner. The structure resembles a cream or cosmetic cream. The product is painted in different shades. You will find classic colors (black, brown) and vibrant colors. Professional gel eyeliners provide a wide palette of up to 15 shades.

Pros and cons of gel eyeliner

The accuracy of the arrows depends on the girl’s skills, knowledge of the application technique and the quality of cosmetics. Not the least important is the choice of a line drawing tool. The gel eyeliner is suitable for girls who are training to create beautiful arrows. But, dexterity and clarity of movements are important here. To understand whether a gel eyeliner is right for you, let’s take a look at the pros and cons of cosmetics.

The advantages of the tool include:

Stability. The applied line is seized instantly. The result is a fixed makeup. Such arrows will last from morning to evening.
Saturation of hues. The gel liner contains a large amount of a pigmenting component. The result is bright arrows. This makes the gel eyeliner a great choice for evening makeup.
Ease of application. The eyeliner really dries up quickly and makes it impossible to correct mistakes. But, unlike the liquid view, the lines are drawn with strokes. Therefore, even beginners can handle arrows.
Possibility of shading. Manufacturers offer girls to change the line. It is necessary to perform such actions immediately after drawing the arrow, until the gel adheres to the base. This is the only eyeliner that allows shading.

The main disadvantage of the gel liner is instant drying. If you apply makeup slowly, you run the risk of not coping with drawing arrows. Another disadvantage is the short service life. Regular opening of the jar will dry out the product. As a result, after six months, the gel will dry out, and lumps will form. If the product has not expired, then try to reanimate the product. To do this, put a couple of drops of cosmetic vegetable oil into a jar.

How to choose a gel eyeliner?

Before you go shopping, make sure you handle the makeup.Take a brush and soak in mascara. Then drag the arrow. If the effect is satisfied, then go to the choice of gel eyeliner. Pay attention to the following parameters:

Jar volume. Choose bubbles up to 5 ml. Jars containing 12 ml of the product dry out. You will not have time to use the eyeliner, but will pay several times more.
Structure. Take a tester and draw a line on your arm. You should get a straight and clear line. If after 5 min.the arrow is smeared or crumbled, then this is a substandard product. Check that there are no lumps in the gel.
Presence of a brush. See if the brush in the set matches the gel liner. If not, choose a thin synthetic fiber brush.

Soft brushes are not suitable for gel liner, buy elastic ones.

Read product information. How the cosmetics are washed off. You will need a special tool for make-up remover, or water and regular lotion will do.

How to apply the gel eyeliner?

Gel liner can be combined with shadows of any shade and structure.First, do your makeup in a standard way. Apply base, then blend eyeshadow. Now let’s move on to drawing the arrows. How to apply gel eyeliner?

Find a place that is well lit. Next, fix the elbow so that the hand does not tremble. Take a brush and draw a pea-sized amount of gel.
Draw a line. Start at the inner corner of your eyes. Make short strokes, heading towards the outer edge. If you are doing daytime makeup, then bring the line to the end of the eyelid and stop. For an evening make up, turn the arrow up. Create the effect of a cat’s eye.
Wash the brush. Gel liner requires additional steps. Twist the jar tightly to prevent the product from drying out. Then wash the brush with soap and water. Let the brush dry naturally.

Gel eyeliner attracted many girls for the clarity of the lines, the stability of the arrows and the saturation of the shades. Try to create a new look with an unusual eyeliner.

How to make arrows using eyeliner

To emphasize the depth, give expressiveness, change the shape of the eyes of women, eyeliner helps.Unfortunately, not many people know how to use it. The main thing in this matter is to follow several rules.

    Eyeliner. Is the choice rich?

Earlier there was an eyeliner called “ember”, which was the only one at that time. To date, there are several such funds.

    The most common are:

    • pencil,
    • liquid eyeliner,
    • felt-tip eyeliner,
    • dry eyeliner,
    • gel eyeliner.

All of them differ from each other not only in price, but also in quality and texture. The palette today is also extremely diverse, many shades and colors in the range even include neon colors.

    Contour pencil

This tool for drawing arrows on the eyes is considered the easiest and most convenient to apply. A pencil is easy to sharpen, and drawing a smooth, thin line or correcting it is as easy as shelling pears. Having chosen the color of the eyeliner, you should pay attention to its hardness. It is very important! A too hard rod is inconvenient and it will be bad to draw an arrow, although it will turn out to be thin. A pencil that is too soft will smear on the skin and it is unlikely that it will be possible to accurately draw the eyes with a thin line with its help.

    Liquid eyeliner

This eyeliner has many advantages over a pencil, it is brighter and more durable. Despite the fact that the choice of colored eyeliners is huge today, black remains the most popular color. Choosing a liquid eyeliner, you should choose the right brush.Thin and softer is more difficult to use and requires certain skills. And the brush, hard, like a felt-tip pen, although easy to use, dries quickly. Therefore, you often have to buy a new eyeliner.

This type of eyeliner is very easy to apply, the procedure can be compared to drawing with a felt-tip pen, and is suitable even for those who are just trying to master these skills. The color range of such eyeliners is also very large, it remains only to decide on the choice.

    Dry eyeliner

Dry eyeliner, the second name of which is cake-eyeliner, requires considerable skill and is a favorite tool of professional makeup artists. This eyeliner is applied with a special, slightly damp brush.

    Gel eyeliner

An analogue of dry eyeliner is gel, made of water-permeable material, it is presented in brighter shades, but can be printed on the eyelid, as it has rich pigmentation. If it dries well, it will last throughout the day, will not smudge or run.

    How to apply eyeliner?

    How to make arrows correctly

An important rule when applying all these products is good lighting, and the technique of applying cosmetic products should be mentioned separately.

    Applying liquid eyeliner

This eyeliner does not lend itself to shading, which means that the line must be drawn instantly and, most importantly, correctly. So that the hand does not flinch during such a difficult “operation”, it is important to keep the elbow on a firm, level surface and in no case on weight.Be sure to blot the brush to get rid of excess liquid, which will only interfere with application.

“Shading” the upper eyelid follows from the inside of the eye to the outside. The line should be thin at first and then thickened.

An important condition when applying liquid eyeliner is not to stretch the skin of the eyelid, as you end up with an accordion.

Do not open your eyes without waiting for the eyeliner to dry – the drawn contour may crack or crumble. The repeated line applied to the “workpiece” should be thinner and weaker. If the arrow turns out to be uneven the first time, you need to quickly correct the “mistake” by removing the makeup.

It is not necessary to apply eyeliner to the mucous eyes, since the makeup that has gotten lost in the corner of the eye looks ugly. And it is better to emphasize the lower eyelid with a pencil, highlighting the growth line of the cilia.

    Applying the eyeliner-felt-tip pen

Before applying the contour with such an eyeliner, it is better to mark a barely noticeable line with a pencil. And after that, fix the result with a felt-tip pen-eyeliner. So, a clear arrow will definitely turn out, and skills will eventually eliminate the need to make “sketches”.

    Applying dry eyeliner

To apply dry eyeliner, you need to choose a suitable and comfortable brush (usually beveled or pointed), which is moistened with water and the eyeliner is shaded with it. With this eyeliner, you can create various effects, however, this is not given to everyone. It usually takes practice and patience.

    Choice of color

Having decided on the type of eyeliner, it is worthwhile to competently approach the choice of color. Someone uses their imagination, and someone follows the recommendations of makeup artists – to choose a tone in accordance with clothes, eye color, skin or hair.

Colored eyeliners are more appropriate in the summer or when creating an extraordinary look. Brown-eyed girls with dark skin can opt for light green, orange and turquoise colors.

Gray, blue or emerald – an excellent choice for brown-eyed and fair-skinned.Brown eyes with a green tint accentuate dark green, olive or copper tones. Eyeliner in purple or burgundy colors is suitable for green-eyed beauties. Gray eyes go with silver and blue eyeliner, and brown, black and beige-gold will well set off blue eyes.

And another extremely important point is the expiration date. We must not forget about this, otherwise allergic reactions are possible.

    Eyeliner works wonders

    Silver eyeliner refreshes the image

Eyeliner can transform the face of any woman and significantly change her overall image. For example, small eyes can be visually expanded. To do this, it is enough just to draw a line with an eyeliner, starting from the center of the upper eyelid, and at the end the arrow needs to be slightly raised.

Those wishing to visually reduce large eyes can draw a line both on the upper eyelid and on the lower.

More round eyes will make the arrow, thickened in the middle of the upper eyelid.

The main thing is not to overdo it with eyeliner, otherwise the opposite effect will turn out. In this matter, the most important thing is to observe accuracy and a sense of proportion, then success in eye makeup is guaranteed.

Try it, with experience you will get amazing arrows that will not let your eyes go unnoticed.

    Gel eyeliner. Application tips.

Gel liner is available in various densities. The higher the consistency of the gel, the brighter and clearer the line will turn out, it also ensures that the gel does not spread over the eyelid, does not smudge and obediently follows the brush.

Professional gel eyeliners, as a rule, are highly pigmented, this ensures durability, as well as economical consumption of funds. On average, with daily use, one jar of gel will last for 6 months.

How to apply the gel liner correctly.Makeup Artist Tips:

    • Gel eyeliner is a liquid product, the components of which are perfectly absorbed and reluctant to be given off by natural brushes. Therefore, a synthetic brush is best suited for applying gel liner. Its advantages are that it is more elastic, does not absorb the agent, and is easy to clean.
    • Choose a medium bristle brush for a successful liner application. If the brush has too long a bristle, accurate application will be problematic. If the pile is short, it will make it difficult to create straight lines. Eyeliner brushes can be straight, beveled and domed. Try them all to find out which shape is convenient for you.
    • To collect the product on the brush as follows: immerse the bristles of the brush completely in the eyeliner, draw up the pigment with twisting movements. Excessively typed eyeliner can be removed on the edge of the jar.
    • It is very important that before each application the brush is clean, without any dried eyeliner from the previous application. If it is not possible to wash the brush after each application, then you can treat the pile with a cotton pad dipped in eye make-up remover. The pile will be clean enough to produce straight, smooth lines.
    • If there is a need to fix the eyeliner for a long period of time (for example, for a prom, wedding, celebration), it is imperative to use a base for populating shadows. However, if it is not in your cosmetic bag, you can limit yourself to dusting your eyelids or applying a neutral shade of shadows.
