22 Places for High Tea in Singapore + 1-for-1 High Tea Deals

Long associated with tai tais, colonial masters, and assorted rich people not chained to a desk job, having high tea in a posh hotel is one of the things that Singaporeans are always fantasizing about.

Unlike breakfast, lunch, and dinner, there’s absolutely no nutritional justification for afternoon tea — which is just what makes it feel so self-indulgent. Plus, there’s usually an absurdly expensive price tag attached to it. So if you have both money and time for high tea, you’ve made it in life.

Nah, seriously, there are actually also affordable high tea sets and buffets in Singapore, which is a good thing since I have a fancy-tea-and-puff-pastry dependency. Read on for the options.

Note: Reservations (up to 5 only) are recommended.

10 Afternoon Tea & Weekend Brunch Places in Singapore, Some With 1-For-1 Offers. How Lovely! – DanielFoodDiary.com

The ‘custom’ of afternoon tea has been enthusiastically adopted by Singaporeans, who have taken its practice to new heights.

The list of options offered in the hotels all over Singapore is a testament to the growing interest in high teas – to many it is an event in itself.

The traditional afternoon tea formula of tea + scones, savouries, and desserts has been tried-and-tested and proven successful, but some hotels do go beyond and offer something more.

Some hotels offer alternatives like an Asian-inspired set such as a Hanami-inspired “Spring in Tokyo” hightea, while others focus on a theme like floral or seafood.

Here are 10 Afternoon Tea & Weekend Brunch Places in Singapore, for you to enjoy tea and its delicious accompaniments:

The Orchard Cafe, Orchard Hotel
442 Orchard Road Singapore, Singapore 238879
Tel: +65 6739 6565
Afternoon Tea Timings: 3pm – 5pm (Sat – Sun)

The Orchard Cafe at Orchard Hotel, which reopened in late 2018, is known as a legendary icon of local dining. It offers its signature hotel buffet showcasing heritage-inspired local creations and chef-curated cuisines from around the world.

Re-designed using a “Food Garden” concept, it features a nature-themed interior and food displays. The bamboo-patterned counters depict handcrafted ingenuity. Its ceiling-to-floor window allows natural lighting to its indoor bar, and the al fresco seating section is a cosy spot to enjoy an afternoon tea.

Savour The Orchard Cafe’s signature Porridge, or seek comfort in a local favourite, lemak Singapore Laksa with cockles, prawns, fish cakes and quail eggs served with noodles in rich fragrant spicy coconut gravy.

For dessert, recommended items are Green Tea Tiramisu and Durian Pengat, a mousse-like durian dessert that’s smooth, creamy and luxurious.

No.1 Martin Place is the new address of The Fullerton Hotel Sydney

Housed in the iconic former General Post Office (GPO) building at No. 1 Martin Place, The Fullerton Hotel Sydney breathes new life into the city’s much-loved landmark.

Its 18 October 2019 opening marked the first international expansion of The Fullerton Hotels and Resorts – the brand behind the waterfront precinct of The Fullerton Heritage by Marina Bay in Singapore.

This includes two award-winning hotels: The Fullerton Bay Hotel Singapore and The Fullerton Hotel Singapore, the latter of which is also housed in a former GPO building.

The 416-room Sydney location pays tribute to a fascinating history dating back to 1874 and continues the brand’s prominent reputation for preserving buildings and their stories.

“We encourage our guests to embark on memorable journeys that are deeper, more colourful and more rewarding when they stay in our one-of-a-kind, landmark luxury hotels with prime addresses that are destinations unto themselves,” says Cavaliere Giovanni Viterale, General Manager of The Fullerton Hotels and Resorts.

“We are excited to open The Fullerton Hotel Sydney in a landmark building that is steeped in character and history.

“It is our aim to provide hotel guests and visitors with heartfelt hospitality and memorable experiences, all while showcasing the beauty and heritage of the former Sydney GPO building to a wider audience both nationally and globally.”

Commanding a central position in the heart of the city, the building was once a rendezvous location where locals would dress to the nines to meet below the GPO clock in the mid-20th century.

Phase one of the work on the building’s Martin Place and George Street façade is now complete – and it was no small task.

Stone Mason & Artist, an expert heritage restoration team with a combined stonemasonry experience of 334 years, undertook a 38,000-hour laborious, chemical-free cleaning process to restore the façade to its former glory.

Cross-cultural dining and elegant accommodations

At its new restaurant, The Place, The Fullerton Hotel Sydney will feature authentic South-East Asian cuisines alongside modern Australian dishes.

Diners can opt for local dishes including pan-fried red emperor and braised Wagyu short rib or explore signature South-East Asian dishes such as Singaporean chicken rice, chicken curry, seafood laksa, satay and more.

Those seeking a tipple can visit The Bar for an iconic Singapore Sling or the new signature Sydney Sling; both hero unique flavours from their respective cities.

The Fullerton’s Signature Afternoon Tea will also be on offer in Sydney, with savoury options like Lobster Cornet a l’Oriental and smoked salmon mille-feuille with caviar, and sweet treats including chocolate moelleux and pandan lamingtons.

Guests can choose between spacious and elegant guestrooms and suites in the heritage wing or the tower wing, with select rooms offering sweeping views of the city.

Inside each room is a Harman Kardon bluetooth speaker, Nespresso coffee machine, indulgent pillow menu, a selection of Singaporean TWG teas and an extensive in-room dining menu.

A 24-hour Fitness Centre also provides a private sanctuary for those seeking wellness through a workout.

Commitment to heritage and community

Shining a spotlight on the GPO building’s unique stories, Fullerton Experiences offers complimentary heritage tours and events for both hotel guests and members of the public.

To be launched on 1 November, the 90-minute complimentary tours will explore the building’s vibrant history and share stories of those who worked in the GPO building, which once connected Sydney with the world through letters, telegrams and the lively phone exchange.

In keeping with the brand’s ethos of engaging with its neighbouring communities, The Fullerton Hotel Sydney has pledged A$200,000 to The Girls and Boys Brigade.

The children’s charity focuses on providing early intervention and life education through activities and practical support for children, youth and their families in need.

The two-year partnership will provide financial support in a number of projects including upgrading the Brigade’s current facility and conducting workshops to train youths in hospitality skill sets, with internship opportunities available.

Sydney is Australia’s largest city and the capital of New South Wales, the country’s most visited state. Located along the South Pacific Ocean on Australia’s southeast coast, Sydney is home to more than a hundred beaches. By Patricia Doherty

Once a penal colony where convicts from the United Kingdom were left to fend for themselves, Sydney grew during the 19th century to become a thriving port city. Today, nearly half of Sydney’s residents, who refer to themselves as “Sydneysiders,” were born overseas. Thus, restaurants representing nearly every international cuisine make the city a foodie paradise.

One of the city’s most recognisable attractions is the iconic Sydney Opera House with its sail-like structures, the work of Danish architect Jorn Utzon whose design won an international competition. The Sydney Harbour Bridge, nicknamed “the coathanger” for its shape, is another notable attraction and part of the city’s stunning panorama.

Sydney’s moderate climate and variety of beaches and parks are ideal for outdoor activities. Hotels throughout the city’s neighbourhoods offer visitors a range of accommodations, from the beaches to the Central Business District.

Best Time to Go

Australia is located in the Southern Hemisphere, so seasons are opposite of those in the Northern Hemisphere. The best times to visit Sydney for weather are the months of October and November (late spring) or March and April (autumn) when temperatures are comfortable and humidity is lower.

The peak times for tourism and the warmest weather are the summer months of December through February. The crowds are at their highest between Christmas and the end of January, a traditional time for Australians’ summer vacations. Naturally, prices are higher during this season, but it’s perfect beach weather. Also, the annual month-long Sydney Festival is held in January, and the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race starts in Sydney Harbor on Boxing Day (December 26).

The low season, May through August, is chillier and prices are lower. It’s still a pleasant time to be in Sydney, and the exciting Vivid Sydney typically takes place in May. The Sydney International Film Festival is held in August and the Bondi Festival in June and July.

Things to Know

Currency: Australian Dollar AUD

Current Exchange Rate

Language: English

Calling Code: +61

Electricity: The plug is Type I, with three flat pins in a triangular pattern. Australia uses 230 volts, so a converter may be needed for certain devices.

Vivid Sydney is a festival that brings outdoor light installations, music, talk, and creative energy to the city each year. Sydney’s iconic Opera House, Museum of Contemporary Art,  and several other buildings become the canvas for leading light artists with colourful displays.

Sydney’s “coffee culture” makes it easy to find a great cup of brew from artisan roasters and skilled baristas. Some claim that the Flat White (espresso with steamed milk and only a thin layer of foam) was first served in Australia.

In general, visitors will find that prices are high in Australia, including in Sydney.

Tipping is not customary or expected in Australia where tax and service are included in the bill by law and minimum wages are higher than in the US.  However, for excellent service in restaurants, taxis, hotels, tours, you may wish to add a small amount as a “thank you.”

Retailers that sell wine, spirits, and beverages in Australia are called “bottle shops.”

The Sydney Fish Market is the largest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere featuring retailers, restaurants, and seafood cooking classes.  Products from the working market, located a short distance from downtown Sydney, include prawns, oysters, sea urchins, crabs, and more.

How to Get Around
