The easiest way to mark or customize clothing is to use cloth markers or fabric pens. They are quick and easy to apply and are quite affordable when compared to things like heat transfers. Fabric pens can be used to draw, color, or write on most fabrics. After drying completely and maybe being ironed, the color should be able to survive being put through the wash. Fabric markers are also great for kids to use, as you only need a few supplies to get going. Professionals can also make use of permanent fabric markers to create unique designs on t-shirts and other fabrics. There are quite a few fabric marker pen brands, colors, and tip shapes available to suit every need. We will be taking you through all about the best fabric markers, hopefully inspiring you to come up with new and inspiring ideas.

Our Top Fabric Marker Choices

You don’t have the time to read through the full article? Here are our top picks for the best fabric makers.

What are Fabric Marker Pens

Fabric painting is a fun and easy way to create designs on t-shirts, pillows, and other fabrics. Painting using fabric marker pens is a way to create even better designs with more detail and fine lines. Fabric pens are easy to use, and there is no mess to clean up afterward. The pen shape provides more control, so you can use various techniques like stencils for more precision work. Fabric pens are great to use if you want to write on fabric.

Since a t-shirt is likely to be washed, the best pens to write on fabric have to be permanent. This is why cloth markers contain a color ink, paint, or dye that should not fade after being placed in the wash. You might have come across a normal marker pen that also says permanent, these are also fade-resistant, however, this type of marker does not come in a variety of colors like the fabric pens.

Permanent fabric markers can be used by anybody and were created to be safely used by those of all ages. The best fabric markers were created for:

  • Children: fabric pens are great to use at school and home
  • Parents: marking of clothing for school, or just having fun with the creative process along with the kids
  • Illustrators: A fine-tipped fabric marker can come in handy for this type of art form
  • New and seasoned artists: anybody who wants to create unique clothing or fabric art pieces

Different Types of Fabric Paint Pens

You have various types of fabric marker pens available. What you want to do, will determine the type of fabric pen you need. Also, it depends on what kind of fabric you use, as this can play a role in choosing a suitable cloth marker. Some fabric pens can be used on different surfaces like plastic, leather, canvas, amongst others.

Permanent fabric markers are needed for fabrics because regular markers tend to bleed into the fabric. These markers also wash off fairly easily once applied. Permanent fabric markers dry properly and will remain fade resistant on the fabric.

Since there are various types of fabric marker pens, we will be looking at a few of the main types you can get. First, let us have a look at the two main types of cloth markers, which can be labeled according to color durability and the tip design. The two main types include the permanent markers and the non-permanent markers.

Permanent Fabric Markers

Permanent fabric markers are what we are going to be dealing with in this article. These are the best pens to write on fabric and contain a place for ink, paint, or dye. Once applied it should then be left to dry, and becomes permanent, and should not fade if washed. If you are looking to design a permanent image on your t-shirt or other fabric items, then a permanent fabric marker is what you need.

Non-Permanent Fabric Markers

This is similar to the permanent marker, however, the ink used dries fast once it has been applied and can then easily be removed using a little water and a cloth. This type of marker is great to use when sewing or as a temporary design you wish to remove after you are done.

Fabric Pens Tip Style

There are also different types of tip styles, these enable you to draw thicker and finer lines and details. You have the common bullet shape and point tip that helps you to create thinner lines. However, tilting the pen a little can make broader strokes. Make sure the fabric pens have a brush tip, for a smooth application. These can come in thicker or ultra-thin tip varieties, and sometimes the fabric pen has a dual tip that provides both. You also get the rounded tip, and these are excellent for drawing bolder lines and cannot be used for finer details. There is also the tapered or chiseled wide tip that should be able to give you broader lines, as well as create thinner or finer lines.

Ink-Based Fabric Pens

These have ink placed inside the pen and are similar to your normal marker, making a mistake with these can be difficult to undo. Ink fabric pens do tend to bleed, so you need to work and control them carefully. When drawing with them, make sure to apply light pressure and do not hold over the same spot for too long, which could produce bleeding into the fabric.

You might need to play around with these to get the feel of how they work. These types of fabric pens not only work on different fabrics but can also work on non-porous surfaces like plastic. When using different types of surfaces, it is a good idea to test out how the pen reacts before deciding to go ahead with the project.

Acrylic Paint Based Fabric Pens

These fabric pens produce amazing results, but they can also be difficult to use. You need to get used to pumping and shaking the pen before using it. However, once you have familiarized yourself with how it works, the easier it will become to use.

You should then be able to produce a constant flow of paint, which will give you great results. Try to test these fabric pens out on scrap pieces of fabric to see how they handle before moving on to your main project.

Gel Fabric Pens

The way you use these fabric pens are similar to the average pen you use to write with. The only difference is the type of ink, which is then suspended in the gel. Easily apply as you would a normal pen and the ink will dry to a permanent color. Since these fabric pens are so easy to use, they are great for those just starting out.

Selecting Your Fabric Marker Pens

When you are looking to purchase permanent fabric marker pens, depending on what you want to do and who they are for, you will need to consider a few things to make the best choice. Take a look at these recommendations to help make the right choice.

Fabric Pens Versatility

We are discussing fabric pens, but if you are going to only use it once on fabric, this could be a waste.

Look for the best fabric markers that can be applied to other surfaces like wood, plastic, or canvas. So, even if you only use it once on fabric, you can still use them for other projects.

Color and Fabric Pens

Today, there are many options available to you. You can choose a set of fabric pens that offers over 30 colors if this is what you are looking for. Otherwise, you can easily buy a simple set of 12 fabric pens to use. You also want to consider color retention; you do not want colors to start changing after only a few washes.

Tips Size and Type

We have already mentioned this, and you can easily purchase a product that has bullet tips or finer tips. Some fabric markers also come in a dual pen, with access to both types on either end of the pen. The dual tip fabric marker pens offer more of a choice in one product.

Fabric Pen Quality

You need to purchase a good quality product, otherwise, you might be risking the ink being too runny and bleeding into the fabric. This will leave you with a less than ideal design that has no clear and sharp edges. If the ink is too thick, you will not be able to apply it evenly and it will not be absorbed as it should into the fabric.

Fabric Pens and Drying

Here you need to decide if you want fabric pens that air-dry, or if you want pens that need to be set with heat after application. The air-dry option fabric markers need to dry for at least 24 hours before throwing it into the wash. You can set the fabric pens with heat using an iron, and after this, the color should not come off in the wash.

Fabric Paint Pens and Bleeding

How to write on fabric without bleeding? You have fabric paint pens that have no-bleeding properties, read the product labels to check. You do not want to pick a fabric pen to only find out later that it bleeds into everything. You also need to read up on a specific pen, as some can be left to air-dry, while others need to be set with heat. However, even if it says air-dry, it might be a good idea to pop it into the dryer to make sure it does not bleed.

Non-Toxic Fabric Pens

Before you purchase any permanent fabric markers, check the label to see if it is non-toxic. Many fabric items that have been painted with fabric pens are clothing items. With this in mind, you do not want to risk using the wrong type of fabric pen that comes into contact with the skin. This is especially true when applying a design to baby clothes.

How to use Fabric Pens

Fabric pens are a great way to bring out your creativity, and not only that, but it is also the perfect opportunity to create some family fun time together. There are many ways to use permanent fabric markers. Create your own personalized t-shirts or style up some of your old clothes. Have a look at a few other ways you can apply fabric pens.

Fabric Pens and Stencils

You get cloth markers that have finer tips which are great to use with stencils. You can easily create beautiful designs on fabric, simply follow the outline of the stencils carefully to create precision artwork. Take care that the stencil remains in place and does not move around. You can also color using a stencil design, keep it in place as this will help you to keep it even versus trying to color without a stencil.

Applying Calligraphy Designs

You can easily create amazing lettering, as you have excellent control over the fabric pen and the handwriting should come out neat. The final design does not have to be perfect; any small mistakes will only add more charm to the final piece. It is best to use darker color fabric pens on lighter fabric to make the lettering stand out more. A white fabric marker and metallic or lighter fabric pens can be used on darker materials.

Adding Details

Some designs require much finer details and using a fine brush just might not be as good as a fine-tipped fabric pen. Fabric pens provide more control over your work, so you will be able to produce more accurate work.

Using Rubber Stamps

Instead of using paint to wet stamps, which could land up making quite a mess, rather use a fabric pen. Take your stamp and color it in using fabric marker pens, then stamp your design onto the fabric. Just make sure not to wait too long to use the stamp, as the ink can dry pretty fast.

Choosing the Proper Fabric

The easiest fabric grain to work with is a finer and smoother grain, as there are rough spots over a coarse grain fabric. If you do not know what type of fabric you have, you can always test it out first before moving on to your design. When working, try not to pause for too long over a certain area, as this could cause bleeding into the fabric. Rather, stop and lift the fabric pen off until you know what you want to do next.

How to Look After Your Fabric Pens

Like with everything, you need to take care of your fabric marker pens so that they can last longer. Here are a few ideas you can use so that you can keep the quality of your fabric pens and keep on creating beautiful design pieces.

  • Always store fabric pens in a dry, cool, and dark place
  • Keep the fabric marker pens flat or horizontal to help with preventing the ink from drying
  • Always keep the caps tightly closed
  • When using your fabric pen, shake it beforehand to make sure the ink is activated and ready to use, especially after being stored for a long time
  • To prevent any bleeding into the fabric, use a pad between the fabric
  • The fabric you are using should be washed and completely dry, as the wet fabric could damage the tip
  • Allow the ink to dry properly on the fabric and check to see if it is an air-dry ink or if you need to apply heat to set it

Can you Revive Dry Fabric Marker Pens?

Yes, fabric pens can be revived. The non-permanent type of markers can be soaked in warm water; however, the permanent fabric markers require rubbing alcohol. Take the cap off the marker and place the tip into the container that has the rubbing alcohol. Keep it submerged until you notice some color coming off. The rubbing alcohol will activate the fabric pen tip. Keep the tip in the alcohol for about five minutes and then remove and dry off using a tissue or rag. Take the fabric pen, and then test it out on a piece of fabric. You can use it immediately if you are working on a project. Remember to tightly close the cap before storing the pen and placing it flat or horizontally while in storage. Otherwise, after soaking in the alcohol, replace the cap and leave the pen standing up for about 24 hours or 48 hours before using it.

This is only a quick solution and does not make the fabric pen-like new. The color quality will not be the best, and you might see it fading faster. Another method is to use alcohol or acetone and inject a small amount directly into the tip of the fabric pen.

How to use Cloth Markers on a T-Shirt

So, now you have your fabric marker pens and now you want to create a fabric t-shirt design. First, let us have a look at the basic items you will need:

  • T-shirt
  • Masking tape
  • Iron
  • Stencils (optional)
  • Newspaper or cardboard
  • Fabric pens

Your first step is to prepare your fabric by washing it and letting it dry thoroughly. If you want, you can test out the fabric pens on another piece of fabric to see how it acts before moving on to your design. Place the fabric onto a surface that is flat, with the area you want to paint, facing you. You can place the cardboard or newspaper in-between the t-shirt fabric to help prevent any bleeding through to the other side of the t-shirt. You can create your design by doing either of the following:

  • Print out a design to trace onto the t-shirt
  • Use a stencil
  • Create a freehand design

You can then place the masking tape around the edges of the t-shirt to help keep everything in place. You can now use your fabric pens to create your design. To make sure the paint dries properly, leave the t-shirt for around five days. Remove the masking tape. If you need to set the paint, you can then use an iron for a few seconds over the design. Preferably press the iron onto the inside of your t-shirt design. You can also use freezer paper in-between the iron and fabric, moving the iron around for a few minutes. You can also place it in a warm dryer for 30 minutes. Remember to set the iron according to the type of fabric being used. Wash in a cool rinse and allow to dry.

Note: Use a white fabric marker or metallic markers for darker color t-shirts.

Washing Clothes with Fabric Markers

Permanent fabric markers should be fade resistant and hold colors for a long time. Even though you can use a washing machine or hand wash fabrics that have been painted using fabric pens, there are a few things you can do to improve the washing process. First, once you have painted and let it dry, leave for at least another 72 hours before you wash it. While the paint is drying, you should make sure to leave everything and not touch anything. This will ensure all the lines and details remain as you want them. Here are some more tips when washing your fabric:

  • Turn your t-shirt inside out
  • Place into a gentle wash
  • Use mild detergent
  • When washing, use cold to warm water. (The first few washes can be cold)

Removing Permanent Fabric Markers

When using fabric pens, there might be an occasion when you accidentally mess some of the colors onto your skin or onto the clothes you are wearing. The easiest step is to remove the paint immediately. However, you can sometimes be so involved in the creative process, you only notice marks later. Let us now look at a few ways you can remove permanent fabric markers from your skin and clothes.

Removing Permanent Fabric Markers From the Skin

When using fabric pens, it is more than likely you will get some on your skin. Not to worry, there are some easy and safe methods to remove it from your skin. You might need to use some of the methods a few times before the marks come off completely. Also, makes sure that you are not allergic to anything applied to your skin. Your first method is to use some rubbing alcohol. Use some cotton wool and dip it into the alcohol, then place it onto the area where the paint is located. Hold for a few seconds and then wipe off. You can also apply some nail polish remover or acetone. Follow the same steps as for the rubbing alcohol and wipe off.

More methods to help remove fabric markers from the skin:

  • Use a little olive, coconut oil, or miner oil
  • Salt or sugar scrub
  • Apply some whitening toothpaste

Removing Permanent Fabric Markers From Clothes

When it comes to kids and some adults, they can be a bit messy and can inadvertently get a marker stain on their clothes. The best thing to do in this situation is to again make sure you remove the paint immediately. Here are one or two methods for removing these marker stains.

Rubbing Alcohol

Lay some paper towels down and position the fabric stain face down onto the towels. Take a sponge and dip into the rubbing alcohol, then dab the sponge around the stain. Dab some more straight onto the stain. The ink should start to come off onto the paper towels. Once the stain has come off, wash the fabric item. You can also use hairspray, which must contain a high amount of alcohol for it to be effective. You will then follow a similar process as with the rubbing alcohol. Spray and soak a cotton ball with the hairspray and apply to the stain.

Applying Milk

This is an easy and safe method for removing fabric marker stains. Fill a bowl with some milk and place the fabric item into the bowl, making sure the stain is covered. Allow this to soak overnight and repeat the process until you see the stain is lifting off. Once done, wash your fabric item.

Best Fabric Marker Reviews

1. Crafts 4 All Fabric Markers Pens Permanent

This affordable set of markers for clothes comes with 24 different colors of markers. It’s a great starter kit that comes with most of the things that you will most likely need if you are just starting out with fabric colorings such as rainbow colors, earth tones and fluorescent colors.

I can say the pigmentation and opacity of these colors are good. Most of the colors are rich and vibrant, although some tend to fade into a duller color once they dry out. For instance, the yellow one will fade into a mustard tone once it sets in. But all in all, the colors are all attractive.

These marker pens have a bullet tip that provides more surface coverage for coloring. It’s not that good for drawing because it doesn’t leave fine and thin markings but is the perfect choice for people who want to achieve gradient shading.

I like that it has a child-safe formulation. It doesn’t have a foul smell when the ink dispenses, so it is perfect for those kids’ activities at parties like drawing on canvas bags or on onesies.

The manufacturer promotes these as a weatherproof and washer-proof marker permanent fabric pens. Time will tell whether these pens will hold up well but for now, it does have a good staying power. You do need to be light-handed when using it as the ink tends to spread a little before settling. Wait for it to dry up a little bit before deciding to add more color, especially if you are coloring beside another color to prevent the ink from blending.

The ink is easy to control. Even if you are using it for the first time, it’s still easy to direct the ink where you want it to go. It settles in the fabric easily and stays there with a very little coaxing. In most fabrics that I have used, I did not find the need to set the ink with heat.

I would buy this again in a heartbeat because of its amazing customer service. They will replace your markers or refund your money if you have issues with the ink.

Pros

  • Vivid and consistent color
  • Kid-Safe Formulation
  • Well packaged
  • Great for gradient shading
  • Does not always need heat setting on certain types of fabric
  • Affordable

Cons

  • Can dry out so keep the caps on when not in use

These are the best fabric pens you can buy if you are on a budget and you just want the basics. It has all the colors you might initially need for your projects and it does not disappoint when it comes to ink consistency and vividness.

2. Best Fabric Markers Non-Toxic

Are you looking for reliable fabric markers for shoes and clothes? This pen set of markers is an ideal choice with 24 different colors. You will love all the rainbow colors plus basic colors and fluorescent colors. I really think you don’t need anything else for your basic coloring needs.

I prefer this marker set on thicker fabrics like burlap and canvas, which is why I would recommend this for shoes. For thinner fabrics like cotton, it might be trickier to use. You can try putting a piece of cardboard under thinner fabrics to make this easier to work with.

The barrel design is utilitarian. I would have preferred something with some contours on the body to prevent the pen from rolling. Additionally, the cap doesn’t fit on the end of the markers. You have to set it down on the table, which means you can potentially lose the cap or get it mixed up with the others.

I do like that the colors are true and vivid. The ink consistency is also just right. I did not have issues with bleeding, especially on thicker fabrics. The ink doesn’t have a tendency to mix with other colors as well but to be on the safe side, try letting one color dry up first before getting to the other one.

If you are looking for fabric markers for t-shirts, you will find this a great choice as well. You can throw it in the washer and not worry that the marker ink will fade easily.

The ink formulation is safe as well. Just like the previous brand, you can let younger kids use this pen and not worry that it will be toxic to them. They can use it for their arts and crafts activities in school or you can use this on party art activities.

One caveat I see with these markers is that they are not as vivid as I wanted them to be. Occasionally, I find the need to add a second shade just to get the vividness I like. It’s a good thing that the ink seems to be long-lasting. I haven’t used them all up even if I did put second layers of colors to my projects.

Pros

  • Doesn’t bleed
  • Better for thicker fabrics
  • Long-lasting ink
  • A lot of color options
  • Can be washed in a washing machine

Cons

  • Cap doesn’t fit on the other end
  • Will need to add more shades to get the desired color

I would recommend this more to people who work with thicker fabrics such as shoes or bags. It is very convenient to use on thicker fabrics more than on thinner ones like cotton.

3. US Art Supply Super Markers

One of my favorite markers for cotton out there is this one from US Art Supply. It’s a thick marker with double tips. One side has a bullet tip while the other side has a chisel tip. It’s perfect for creating all sorts of art on fabric. The bullet tip is great for writing and drawing but can also be great for filling. Use the chisel tip for shading and blending.

There are 20 different colors in this set of fabric pens for cotton and other types of fabrics. There are a lot of dark colors, which look bright and vivid against fabrics. They can be used easily on cotton and thicker fabrics like canvas.

One of the reasons why I keep on buying these because these are fabric markers that don’t bleed. It does need some heat setting but I have no issues using a blow dryer or running an iron on the fabric to make sure that the ink sticks.

Once the ink is set with the heat, it is permanent. It does not fade and does not bleed when you wash it. The manufacturer also suggests letting it air cure for about 24 hours before washing it.

I like the formulation of the ink. First, it does not have a strong smell and it is non-toxic. I like that it dries up well and does not run on the fibers of the fabric. It’s easy enough to use even for younger kids for all those DIY or art projects at home.

The ink still remains vivid even after some time. Even after a few washes, the ink still looks vivid. There are those non permanent fabric markers out there that have a tendency to get washed out, so after a few washes, they have already faded. That is not the case with this.

It’s a comfortable pen to use. The nibs also seem to hold up well even after repeatedly running it over a rough fabric such as canvass.

Pros

  • Great color choices
  • Has a good staying power
  • Backed by a warranty
  • Does not bleed
  • Can be washed in a washing machine

I think these pens are a value for your money. Even though they are more expensive, there are a lot of colors to choose from and they stay on the fabric for a long time, making them worth the extra dollars you spent on them.

4. Crayola Fabric Markers

Crayola makes fabric paint pens as well. These are some of the least expensive pens for fabrics I have seen around, so if you are on a tight budget, you will love these. It has a very simple marker design. The barrel indicates the color you are using, so there is no mistake this from other colors.

It comes with a bullet tip that I find quite easy to use on fabrics. It is a flexible kind of fine tip that works for drawing or lettering but can also be used to shade small surface areas. I would suggest putting a cardboard underneath if you are using it on thinner fabrics. I can do finer details on my fabric markings and not worry that they will bleed on each other.

All the colors are great. It’s a basic set, so if you are looking for more color choices, you should look for something else. I think this is better for those simple DIY projects or party needs.

The ink is not as vivid as I would have liked, but I have found that applying a second layer does the trick. It is buildable and does not bleed. Just like the previous fabric markers for shirts, it does need heat to set completely. However, once set, it stays even after putting it in the washer.

If you are letting kids use these markers and they accidentally get some of their skin, that won’t be a problem. These markers easily wash off when on skin. Kids can use this easily as well. The cap has a good seal but should be no trouble taking it off even when done by little hands.

I like that these are affordable pens. They do last for a long time and the ink doesn’t run dry easily, but in case I do run out of ink, I don’t have to worry because it’s a cheap fabric marker to buy.

These fabric markers for polyester have been used for a long time but the nibs still stayed intact. I like that they have a bit of flexibility to them and they are not too rigid, which makes them resist wear and tear better.

Pros

  • Has a lot of good color options
  • Does not run out on ink fast
  • Washes off of the skin easily
  • Easy for kids to use
  • Affordable option

This is the fabric marker brand I would recommend for those who are on a budget. For its price, it has a lot of things to bring to the table.

5. Creative Joy Fabric Markers

I bought these Creative Joy fabric markers because they have dual tips. I can use the broader tip for shading and the fine tip to create crisp lines. Both tips are good and have nice flexibility that makes them easier to work on softer fabrics.

These can be used as fabric markers for sewing as well. I have used them to retouch faded spots in clothing and also used them on thicker fabrics like canvas. The colors are vivid and they come out strongly even against darker fabrics.

It is a tad disappointing to find that some of the colors are inaccurate. For instance, what is supposed to be a dark blue is actually a light blue when you use it on fabric. The mint green shade looks more of forest green on fabric. I did not have issues with the rest of the shades but some people might find the inconsistency of the colors disappointing.

I like these fabric markers designs because they are simple and easy to use. The body of the marker has contours and edges, which makes them easier to hold. Writing on fabric can be difficult because of how soft the fabrics can get but with this one, it’s not a problem. I also like that the caps have a curved shape, which makes them much easier to remove even when you have clammy hands.

It did fade some in the washer. It did not completely bleed but I found that I had to reapply to restore the vibrancy. I think some heat setting will help keep the ink in place.

The nibs lasted for a long while. I did not experience fraying or deforming even when used on stiff materials such as denim and canvas. It’s a very reasonably-priced product that comes with most of the colors that you might need for your coloring needs.

I can only say that this is backed by excellent customer service. If you encounter problems with your marker consistency such as ink that has dried up, their customer service can address your issues.

Pros

  • Ink is vivid and bright
  • An affordable option for people on a tight budget
  • Excellent customer service
  • Ergonomic barrel design
  • Dual tip

Cons

  • Inaccurate color depiction
  • It faded some in the washer

All in all, these are good fabric markers to use for your various projects. They are easy to use and the dual tip option gives you more coloring flexibility.

6. Tulip Permanent Nontoxic Fabric Markers

You can’t beat the price of these markers. You are getting 20 markers to draw on clothes in one set – an excellent value for your money as you are getting more color options at a price comparable to that of other brands with fewer marker options.

I like the color selection of these markers. There are pastel, neon, and earthy colors. I have enjoyed choosing the best shade for my art projects since all the colors are true and vibrant on fabric. These are also fabric markers for dark fabric. The color still comes through even when writing it on darker fabrics like denim.

The markers come with bullet tips. I find this tip the easiest to work with because it can draw fine lines but can also double as a shading marker. The ink consistency and nib quality are good enough that they can double as a marker for coloring books as well. Feel free to lend this to your kids for their art activities.

I like how smoothly it lays down ink. The nibs glide smoothly on fabric surfaces, so it doesn’t snag when you color. It doesn’t interfere with your control over what you are drawing.

It doesn’t require heat setting but to be on the safe side, you can still apply heat to prevent bleeding. I haven’t experienced bleeding issues with the ink. The ink dries up fast but I still like to wait for a few minutes first to allow the ink to dry up completely before adding another color.

I have tried washing it and the colors stayed vibrant. The colors stayed intact and did not bleed with each other.

The problem with these markers is that the ink has a tendency to dry out over time. I would suggest keeping the caps on all the time and putting this in an airtight container. That will help keep the nibs from drying out. If you are one of those who got markers that have dried up, you can call their customer service and have your markers replaced.

Pros

  • Great color choices
  • Colors are vibrant
  • Do not need heat setting
  • Does not fade after washing
  • An excellent choice if you are on a budget

Cons

  • The pens have a tendency to dry up

Give these markers a try. They are affordable and they offer more color options, great for people who like to do intricate artworks on fabric.

7. Crafts 4 All Fabric Markers Pens

These crafts 4 all fabric markers come with 12 different colors of makers. All of them feature dual tips, one fine, and one broad tip to create more dimension when writing or drawing. I like to use the fine tip for adding more details and lines. I use the broad tip for shading and filling in gaps.

The color options in this set are all arresting. I love the beautiful pastel colors that stay true even after you have laid it out on canvas material. I think all the colors are useful and they can be used in creating subtle gradations when shading.

Unlike others that have a tendency to bleed when you layer them, these fabric markers don’t have such an issue. The ink seems to dry out fast. It gets absorbed by the fabric quickly. You can put another color next to it and not worry that the two colors will start mixing.

It’s surprisingly waterproof as well. I have accidentally spilled water on the canvas bag with the artwork from these markers but they did not get washed out. After a couple of washes, the ink also stayed vibrant.

I like the contoured edges as well. It prevents the barrel from rolling over, perfect for parties when there are so many things going on. It’s also great for little ones to use as you don’t have to keep on retrieving the marker under the table when it rolls over.

One thing I dislike about these markers is that the caps are difficult to remove. Kids might have a hard time opening it on their own, so you might have to keep the caps off while they work, which can dry up the tips.

I do like that the tips are flexible and that they glide easily on softer materials and fabrics. I can use them on shirts and bibs without having to hold the fabric down too much.

Another thing to note about these markers is that they do have a smaller ink volume compared to others. I run out of ink faster on these markers than the others I have tried before.

Pros

  • Comes with dual tips
  • Has bright colors
  • Does not bleed, great for layering
  • Easy to use on soft materials
  • Does not smear even when you splash water on the fabric

Cons

  • Caps are difficult to remove, not great for small hands
  • Ink runs off quickly.

I highly recommend these markers to people who want something that is easy to use on softer materials. It glides smoothly and stays on without bleeding or streaking.

8. Mosaiz 26 Fabric Markers Pen Set

Are you on a tight budget but you want to have fabric markers with more color options? You should try getting this set. It comes with 26 different colors, which is a great value considering it’s an affordable set. It comes with all the colors you might need for your coloring and even has metallic options.

I like the black barrel design with the gold-tone label and the colored caps. It’s easier to spot the color you want because the rest of the barrel is just black-colored.

These markers have pointed bullet tips and I find this the best when doing both writing and shading. You can use it to create borders, do letterings, underline words and many other art projects. I have used this on both stiff and soft fabrics and did not encounter issues when it comes to their ink consistency.

The ink formulation is good. It dispenses ink on fabric easily without having to restart it first. It dries up easily as well even when used on slow-drying fabrics like canvas or denim.

These markers are safe to use for children as they don’t contain toxic formulations and they are odorless. I also like that the ink is chlorine-resistant. You can use them to color your swim clothes as well and not worry that the ink will bleed.

What this set offers that you can’t find elsewhere are the stencils. These markers come with reusable stencils that you can just stick on the fabric and then remove once you are done. This comes in handy when you have art activities with kids or you are doing arts and crafts activities at a party.

It does have a thicker ink consistency, which makes them a little difficult to use on thinner fabrics like cotton. I did not have any problems when it comes to denim and canvas. I think this is more suitable for these thicker kinds of fabrics.

The colors run out faster than expected, so I think if you are going to use these a lot for different fabric projects, you might need to get a second set.

Cons

  • Some of the colors ran dry
  • Thick ink consistency better for denim or for shading

These markers are ideal to use for thicker fabrics and if you do a lot of shading. They’re not that great for letterings.

9. Ohuhu Fabric Markers Permanent 36 Colors

These markers cost 2-3 times more than your average fabric marker. But I think every penny is worth it. It is one of the best markers for fabrics out there for a variety of reasons.

First, this marker set is more expensive because it comes with 36 different colors. You get all the colors of the rainbow and more. Moreover, each pen has durable tips. One is a fine tip and the other is a chisel tip. You can get so much flexibility with these markers.

I like that I can do delicate and intricate art and then shade them with the chisel tip for a bolder color. The colors stay vibrant even after man washes. You still need to dry them for 24 hours before putting them in the washer first. But after that, the ink stays on forever.

It is easy to stay organized because these markers come in a zip case. You can store them upright and easily pick the color you want. The markers have a white-colored barrel but the colors are depicted on the tips to make them easy to identify.

I like that these are safe to use even for children. The ink formulation is non-toxic so kids can use these to their heart’s content.

It’s easy to use and has ergonomic feels as well. The squared contours enable a better grip, so even if you are working with clammy hands, you can still grip the markers easily. They also don’t roll off of the table.

Pros

  • Beautiful colors that stay vibrant and vivid
  • Can be used on different surfaces, not just fabric
  • Does not fade easily
  • Safe even for children to use
  • Ergonomic design
  • Comes with a case

Cons

  • A little bit more expensive than others

These are all-around markers that will give you endless hours of coloring fun. Aside from fabrics, you can use them on many other materials and mediums as well.

10. Aen Art Fabric Markers Pen 30 Colors

It’s hard not to like these markers. First, they come in 30 different colors. All the colors of the rainbow plus more are included in this set. You probably don’t need anything else if you have these markers.

All the color choices are vibrant and vivid. I did not find a marker that has dried out tips or had inaccurate colors. What you can see on the caps is pretty much what the ink looks like when you lay it down on the fabric.

These markers come with fine tips but these tips are flexible enough to be used for lettering and drawing. I also like that the ink formulation is safe for children to use. It is non-toxic and it doesn’t emit a foul odor.

These are very easy to use on shirts. Even on thinner and softer fabrics, the nibs glide easily on their surface. It doesn’t go all over the place. The lines stay crisp.

The ink consistency is just right. It’s not too thick that it’s difficult to shade evenly but not too thin that it spreads out. Even after many washes, the ink still remains vibrant. I haven’t encountered any bleeding. Although it dries easily on shirts, it doesn’t dry out when you leave the nibs open.

They are a tad expensive, and the ink volume is not as good as the others. You might run out of the basic colors fast and find the need to buy another set just to get these colors again.

Pros

  • Easy to use on shirts
  • The ink and nibs don’t dry up easily even when left open
  • No bleeding
  • Pigmented colors show up easily
  • Great ink consistency that is neither too wet nor too dry
  • Stayed vibrant-looking for a long while

Cons

  • More expensive than others
  • Low ink volume

These are great markers to buy if you are looking for more color choices. They are excellent for artists, business owners, and hobbyists.

11. Crafts 4 All Permanent Fabric Marker Laundry Marker

Do you need a black fabric marker only for making outlines or retouching logos on fabrics? These ones from Crafts 4 All would be an excellent choice. It comes with 2 markers that have double tips.

The chisel tip is perfect for shading and for coloring a larger surface area while the fine tip is great for outlining and making drawings. It has a safe ink formulation, so even kids can use it safely.

This is actually the perfect product for hiding stains and bringing to life old and faded clothing. If I have a black shirt that has dulled out from frequent washes, I use these black pens to touch them up.

These markers bring longevity to the table. Aside from the durability of their tips, these markers also have a large ink volume, making them last for a long time when working on bigger projects. If you use fabric markers a lot for your business, you will find these markers cost-effective.

The manufacturer also backs their pens up with excellent customer service. They give you instructions on how to activate the ink and provide a refund or a replacement in case you have issues with your purchase.

It is, however, not a true black. It has a greenish tint that might look obvious when set against completely black fabrics. It is more obvious against sunlight but might not be noticeable at night. However, if you are using it to match a completely black fabric, you might see the subtle difference in color.

Pros

  • Dual tips
  • Long hours of usage
  • Don’t bleed when put in the washer
  • Excellent customer service
  • Affordable

You can buy this if you need a black marker for spot-treating fabrics. These are easy to use and they won’t cost you a lot of money.

12. Zenacolor 20 Fabric Markers Pens Set

Don’t miss out on the benefits of these marker pens set from Zenacolor. They have an impressive line-up of marker colors that you will be happy to use for your fabric art. I like all the color selections. I can even do some shading and gradient art that I can’t do with other marker sets that only have limited color options.

All the colors are bright and vibrant and they stay that way even after a couple of washes. The ink has an excellent staying power and dries up quickly shortly after you lay it down on fabrics.

I like the overall look of these pens. The bulleted shape of the caps looks attractive and there are ridges that make them easier to remove. Even children can remove them with ease.

These markers are versatile, too. They are not just good for fabrics, but they are also good for paper and other mediums. The nibs are flexible so they are perfect for rougher surfaces like canvas as well.

The fine tips of these markers are great for drawing and lettering but are thick enough to provide extensive coverage as well. They can be used to shade and fill in your drawings. Just make sure you allow the ink to air dry for 24 hours before putting it in the washer. It’s very convenient to use because it doesn’t require heat to set.

On the other hand, these markers might not be as visible on darker fabrics.

Pros

  • Bright color options
  • Does not fade
  • Good customer service
  • Fine tips are perfect for drawing
  • Easy to control even for small hands

Cons

  • You need to allow the ink to dry first for 24 hours
  • Not ideal for darker fabrics

You won’t be disappointed with these markers. They have excellent color choices and they have a good staying power that will make them a great addition to anyone’s marker collection.

What to Look for When Buying Fabric Markers

Whether you are looking for colore premium fabric markers or other brands of fabric markers, make sure you are buying the right one. Here are a few factors you need to consider:

Color Choices – When buying fabric markers, you need to consider which colors would be most useful in your art arsenal. Some people might find basic colors sufficient for their needs, while others might want a more extensive selection of colors with all the colors of the rainbow and then some.

Today, you can find marker sets that include more than 30 different colors. If you want more color range when drawing, you should go ahead and try these marker sets.

Versatility – It would be a shame to use these markers only on fabric, especially if you are just going to use the fabric on one occasion. You should also look for those markers that can be used on a variety of mediums such as paper or wood. That way, you still will be able to use them once you are done with your fabric projects.

Size of the Tips – Many fabric markers come with dual tips. Usually, you will get a bullet tip or a fine tip or both for your markers. Get the fine tip if you need more defined drawings and the bullet tip for letterings and shading. A dual-tip marker would be a more flexible option. You can use your preferred tip.

Ink Quality – Ink quality is important when you are working with mediums like fabric. If it is too runny, the ink will follow the fibers of the fabric and you will be left with a fuzzy look instead of a sharp one. If it’s too thick, it will be difficult to distribute the ink. It will settle on the surface of the fabric only and will not be absorbed quickly. This is why you should get one that sits somewhere in between.

Drying Power – Many fabric markers need to be set with heat. Once they are set with heat, they can no longer be washed off. However, if you don’t like heat setting, you should choose one that can be air-dried only. There are markers that need to be air-dried for 24 hours before they can be placed in the washer.

No-Bleeding Properties – Whatever you choose, make sure it has an ink formulation that does not bleed easily. The last thing you would want is to choose a marker that gets on everything and bleeds to the next color.

Other Important Factors to Consider

What is a Fabric Marker?

A fabric marker is similar to paper markers in a way that they add more color to fabrics. You can use them to color small or big areas on shirts. They can be used to make artworks on fabrics as well.

What makes these markers different from other types of markers is that they can be washed. They have a better staying power, so you can put them in the washer and not worry that the ink will wash right off.

How Does it Work?

You just use a fabric marker the same way you will use a regular marker. There is usually no preparation involved and you can use it right off the box. The ink will flow right out. However, there are some markers that will need to be set with heat. You can run the fabric with the ink in the drier for a few minutes to set the ink.

There are those that do not need to be set with heat. You just need to air-dry the fabric for 24 hours to set the ink and you are great to go.

Who is this For?

These markers are great for anyone who needs to use markers on fabrics. If you have a faded shirt that needs to be retouched or spot-treated, you can use fabric markers rather than completely dye the shirt. You can also use these markers for special projects and for crafts projects when throwing parties like a baby shower. They can be used to design onesies or even stuffed animals.

These markers can also be used by artists or business people. If you run a custom shirt designing business, you definitely should look for reliable fabric markers to use.

What are the Different Types of Fabric Markers?

The most common type of fabric marker is the ones that come with a single tip. They can be either fine tips or bullet tips. Another type of fabric marker is the dual-tip fabric marker. These markers come with both a bullet or a fine tip and sometimes even have a chisel tip to replace either the bullet or the fine tip.

Why Do You Need Permanent Fabric Markers?

You need permanent fabric markers because regular markers will just bleed on the fabric. Regular markers will wash off easily and will even bleed all over the fabric. They are difficult to blend and they won’t dry up easily. This is why you need permanent fabric markers. These are easier to control and they are designed to dry up when used on fabrics. They can be used on different fabrics like cotton, denim, canvas and many more.

The Best Markers For Drawing On Felt

*This post may contain affiliate links. Please see my disclosure to learn more.

Drawing on felt is one of the most popular ways to breathe life into your felt creations and decorations. When drawing, you are allowed to be as creative as you’d like and create anything you can think of – from felt toys, key chains to Christmas ornaments.

However, felt is an incredibly difficult material to draw on because of its texture – the fibers tend to lay on top of one another in random patterns.

If you’re not careful, the designs can bleed and you’d end up with a shapeless blob on your felt design, or worse, ruining your creation!

If the task already sounds daunting to you, don’t worry, we’re here to help.

So what are the best markers for drawing on felt? The best markers for drawing on felt are typically high quality markers specially designed to work on fabric, but a high-quality acrylic paint pen set will also often work well on felt. Permanent markers tend to perform better than washable markers.

We’ll help you pick out the best markers that work well with felt, so you can be more confident when working with your felted creations in the future. We’ll also share a few dos and don’ts when it comes to drawing on felt and knowing how to get the best results will ensure you get the desired look.

If you’re interested in knowing more about the best markers that work well when drawing on felt – and tips for how to go about it – read on!

Choosing Markers For Drawing On Felt

If you have ever tried to draw on felt with a marker, you’ll understand why it’s so difficult.

The texture of the felt will cause the ink to bleed, and you’ll end up with a messy, shapeless blob. The ink can even bleed through to the other side of the felt, which can even ruin your entire project.

Moreover, not every type of marker will work on every type of felt. In our experience, washable markers tend to bleed a lot, so you won’t be able to create nice and clean shapes or maintain the colors after a period of use.

Permanent markers can work with felted creations that don’t need a lot of washing, like felted toys or ornaments.

On the other hand, if you are working with felted bags or wallets that you will be putting in the wash, using fabric markers or fabric paint pens – especially acrylic paint pens or similarly versatile pens with strong pigmentation – will ensure that the design stays for a long time.

Best Markers For Drawing On Felt

So you’re ready to draw on felt! You’ll need the best markers for the job.

We’ve got your back with a quick guide to our top marker picks for drawing on felt and similar materials:

We have more on each choice below so you can be sure what you’re getting yourself into. Keep reading for more on the best markers to use on felt and happy drawing!

1.

Super Markers Fabric Liner

Check Current Price On Amazon

These fabric markers work really well if you want to create fun and colorful designs on your felt creations. We love that this set comes in 20 colors, so it’s super versatile and useful for any kind of design. The markers are non-toxic. They’re great if you’re crafting with kids as young as three years old!

Working with felt is super easy if you’re using these markers. You can machine-wash your creations without affecting the design. The colors are very rich and pigmented, and your design won’t fade too much after washing.

Although the color will dry quickly and with minimal bleed, if you’re using several colors in one design, make sure one color is completely dry before adding a second (or third!) color to help you achieve a nice and clean final design.

The markers are double-ended, which means that each color comes with two types of tips to help you create a versatile range of designs. The chisel tip is bigger, so it’s great if you’re creating bigger strokes and filling in the colors. The fine bullet tip is amazing when creating fine lines and smaller details.

Even though the markers say that the ink doesn’t bleed, keep in mind that the color will bleed a little whenever you’re working with felt, so it’s best to follow the tips we give below to achieve the best results.

After you finish drawing with these markers, it’s best to let the ink dry for 24 hours before using or washing your creation, so there won’t be any color smudging or bleeding.

2.

Sharpie Stained Fabric Markers

Check Current Price On Amazon

Of course, we can’t talk about quality markers without mentioning Sharpie. These bright, colorful Sharpies in 8 primary colors are designed to work well with fabric. On the felt, the colors can bleed while you work, but once the ink is allowed to dry, the colors and design will stay faithful for a long time.

These Sharpies have stiff brush tips that can help you create fine lines as well as thicker brush strokes. Thanks to this feature of the marker, controlling your drawing is super easy and you won’t have to worry about mistakes or unwanted bleeding.

The ink is also designed to survive in the wash, so it’s quite friendly for everyday projects. If you’re working with regular fabric, bleeding is non-existent, but you can expect some ink transferring and bleeding when working with felt, although these markers will still give you a neat design if you follow the above tips.

The color range is quite limited on this set, but if you don’t need a lot of colors, this is the best option for you. They are super easy to use, especially if you are a complete beginner and have never drawn on fabric before, so it’s definitely a great starter set to help you create some colorful felted designs.

3.

Acrylic Paint Marker Pens

Check Current Price On Amazon

This set of markers is a bit different since it uses acrylic paint, which is known for its color quality and its durability when drawing on fabric. Unlike other acrylic paint that is sold in tubes, these paint markers are environmentally-friendly, odorless, and non-toxic so you can work even with children.

The markers have 0.7mm fine tips, so it’s best to create fine lines and intricate designs. The markers are quite sturdy and easy to maneuver, so you don’t really need any skills to work with them. The caps are designed so that the paint won’t dry out, so you’ll get longer use out of them.

Obviously, acrylic paint is known for being water-resistant and durable, so the colors will stay for a long time even after a few washes. This is possibly one of the best options when you draw on felt because you get the color quality of acrylic paint and the beginner-friendliness of a marker.

Because this is paint, you will need to shape the markers vigorously before use, as well as test the ink on a scrap piece of felt to make sure that the ink is flowing smoothly before you apply the marker to your felted creation. However, the result is definitely worth the work.

The set comes with 18 different colors, quite a wide range if you are hoping to create a lot of interesting, colorful designs. The colors dry really quickly and have minimal bleed, so drawing on felt will be quite easy when you work with these markers.

Tips For Drawing On Felt

If you already have a permanent marker or a fabric marker, try the below tips to get the best result for your felted creations:

Tip #1

Draft your design before you start. Felt is not a forgiving material – once your marker has touched the felt, you won’t be able to correct your mistakes!

If you’re planning on drawing a design on felt, it’s best to draft a sketch with pencil and paper first and make changes there before transferring the design to the felt.

Tip #2

Test the marker on a scrap piece of felt before you draw on your creation. Think of this step as practice – the more you get used to drawing on the felt with your marker, the nicer the final creation will look.

Testing the marker on your material will also allow you to get a handle on how fast the ink moves and how quickly you need to work to create the best results.

If you have a simple design, you can even draw it out first on the scrap piece of felt to make any adjustments before creating the final product.

Tip #3

When you are ready to draw on your felted creation, draw without any pauses.

Since the ink will bleed, stopping in one spot for too long will create unwanted dots in your line. The ink can even bleed through to the other side, which can mark your work surface or the next layer of felt.

Tip #4

If you are working with a flat piece of felt and don’t want the ink to bleed through, lay a piece of cardboard or paper towels underneath the felt you will be drawing on.

This step will make the working layer easier to draw on, and it won’t transfer to your work area or other layers of fabric.

Tip #5

Allow the ink to dry before touching it. Unlike working with paper or other types of fabric, the ink will take a few minutes to dry when first applied to felt. If you touch the ink right after applying, the design can be smeared!

Tip #6

If you are working with more than one color, be careful because the colors can bleed into one another!

To prevent this from happening, apply one color first, allow it to dry completely before applying other colors next to it. This way, the colors won’t mix and create any odd and unwanted blobs in your design.

Tip: Use Sharpie to Decorate Fabric

February 13, 2011

Do you have a child or teen’s birthday coming up? How about a church youth group? Here is something we did that youth of all ages enjoy. We bought a package of colored Sharpies. They come in a set of 24 and might be a wee bit on the expensive side, but are worth it for the different shades of colors you get.

Have the young ones, and young at heart bring a t-shirt, pair of jeans, or anything else they have permission to decorate. Place a stiff piece of cardboard in between the front and back sides of the clothing. Lay out the markers on the table and let them go to it.

I have found that after they air for about an hour it helps to heat set the clothing in the dryer for about 10 to 20 minutes. Airing helps get rid of the lingering odor from the Sharpies.

Question: How to SET Permanent Sharpie Pen Ink into Clothes?

How do you SET Sharpie Ink into clothes (primarily cotton or cotton blend t-shirts and also dennim pants/jeans).

I work at a Scout camp and at the end of each week all the staff and kids sign each other’s camp shirts (or Jeans – mom’s GOTTA love that! LOL). Anyway, last year, my daughter wore her t-shirt a lot and all the sharpie “permenant” ink came out in the wash – isolated case of NOT wanting it to come out, but I can’t find anywhere to tell me how to make sure it DOESN’T come out!

Thanks,

I would iron it (as someone else suggested) and then soak it in cold strong saltwater (just as you do when dying a garment). Afterwards wash in cold water only.

Only fabric ink will hold its color. There are fabric pens you can purchase. Gel ink will not last and will fade out when washed. Maybe you can try a fabric sealer.

This puts a coating over your design for longer lasting. This piece would have to be on gentle or hand wash!Pghgirl40

Not sure it works with all gel pens. There are some you can set by ironing them. Take a piece of parchment paper, cover the design and gently press the fabric on a high heat for about 30 seconds. I would only hand wash, inside out after. It may still come out if it was a generic type gel pens. This technique works for fabric specific gels.

Gel markers will look great until you need to wash the jacket. In some cases, they will start to fade after extended wear of the jacket. You are better off to buy a set of fabric markers to use if you want to decorate your demin jacket. I would suggest that you buy Craft 4 All Fabric Markers.

These work great and the yon’t run or fade. This way you can wash the jacket. Another idea to use is gel fingernail polish for your project. This one works well and you can wash the jacket.Answer this Question

There is a material sealer called De Mite that can be sprayed on fabric in order to seal it and protect it. I know they have this on Amazon where you can buy it. But right now they are out of stock. Here is the link so hopefully you can find out when they will get some more in.

If they don’t then go to your craft store or even fabric store and find a good material sealer that you can use to protect the material on your cushions. www.amazon.co.uk/…/B002UEHJVMhaydemon

an acrylic spray sealant should work fine. But even the best sealant probably will not protect it from fading from UV rays, however.

Washing the item is the keep to feeling the transfer on and the writing on the transfer you are using. You can use the permanent marker you are thinking of using but when washing this you need to take into consideration how it is done. You should always turn the garment inside out when washing. Coldwater is the best to use when washing this garment. Using mild detergents is also recommended.

Haning this up to dry or drying it in a dryer on a low setting. Allows allowing the transfer to sit for at least 24 hours before you wash the garment. Over time all markers fade just some in the wash and that is why a lot of people will hand wash the item and hang it up to dry. Do not hang it in direct sunlight because it will fade quicker.Answer this Question

Question: Preserving Permanent Marker On Clothing?

Hand wash in cold with VERY mild soap, hang to dry.

September 12, 20060 found this helpful

If the designs begin to fade too much…. trace over them again w/ the permanent markers, or maybe you will enjoyu the faded look also, for a while.

September 12, 20060 found this helpful

If it is the design you love and not the color, draw over it with a bleach pen and you will have a white version. If you want both design and color, then I agree with previous posts, gentle washing and repeat as necessary. A sharpie marker should stay in fairly well.

why not go over the designs with fabric paint?

June 1, 20082 found this helpful

You can use a colorless, water–based, acrylic paint as a sealant for the marker designs. Just brush a thin coat over your designs and allow to dry for 24 hrs. I’d probably turn jeans inside out and apply the acrylic to the back side of the designs as well, to prevent fading from both sides. Once dry, the treated fabric will feel stiffer than the rest but, it should soften up when washed.

Editor’s Note: Many people have complained about this comment, stating that it removes the Sharpie instead of fixing it. Use caution if trying this tip.

Before washing, place it in a dishpan or bucket with 1 part white vinegar to 5 parts water for an hour to set the colors. Rinse thoroughly in cold water, then wash by itself, on permanent press cycle, cold water.

A Baby Shower Onesie Decorating Station (That Doesn’t Suck)

A baby shower onesie decorating station that’s actually cute? You betcha. No puff paint here, folks. Just a whole bunch of tricks you’ve never seen before for the ultimate baby shower activity idea.

One of my best girlfriends is having a baby! We celebrated her recently with a baby shower and I was put in charge of the baby shower onesie decorating.

I was kind of stumped at first, because I didn’t want my sweet friend to end up with a pile of onesies with smeared puff-paint all over them. We can do better than that, right?! Right. I really wanted to make a baby shower onesie decorating station that doesn’t suck.

So I thought and thought and came up with a few ideas so that guests could make quick, easy decorated baby clothes that would look cute enough to actually put on the kid. Hopefully this helps a whole generation of baby shower planners to dodge the puff-paint bullet. Read on to see what we put together.

Psst! Here’s another onesie decorating idea that I used when we were having Henry!

Supplies You’ll Need

A Baby Shower Onesie Decorating Station that doesn’t Suck!

My first and favorite tip? Use more than just onesies! We had the idea to branch out and include other pieces so that our girl didn’t end up with an overabundance of any one style. We used onesies, t-shirts, leggings, shorts, and headbands.

Use clothing pieces in a variety of sizes as well, so that baby can grow into some of them and use them for a while to come.

Repurpose Onesies

A good number of the onesies we used came from another mama’s stash whose kids are now grown. We salvaged the ones that were in good shape and I gave them a dye job. We used a few different colors to mix it up. I used some good old fashioned RIT dye in bright colors, leaving the onesies in the dye bath for various amounts of time to create different saturations of color.

Four Ways to Decorate Onesies

I planned a few different mediums and methods for guests to use while they were decorating the onesies. The key to baby shower onesie decorating? Leave the puff paint out of it.

  • Fabric Markers. We provided fabric markers and stencils so guests could either freehand designs or use stencils to make them a little more tidy.
  • Iron-On Letters. We got a bunch of iron-on letters and had an iron on hand. These are super easy to use (just like we did in this post!) and make for fun designs. Just peel off the letters and iron them on.
  • Iron-On Vinyl. Because I have a Cricut machine, I could easily prep some designs in the iron-on vinyl material and have them ready for guests. Guests just cut out the piece of the design that they wanted and ironed it right onto the clothing. It was fun to see what they would mix and match! If you have a Cricut too, you can just upload some quick designs and cut them out of a 12″ x 12″ piece of vinyl. A few designs go a long way.
  • Fabric Fusion Sheets I got a few sheets of Fabric Fusion Sheets and prepped them ahead of time. To do this, peel off one side of the backing on a sheet of Fabric Fusion and stick the sheet to the wrong side of a rectangle of fabric. Give your guests scissors to cut shapes out of the prepped fabric. Once a shape is cut, peel off the other side of the backing and adhere it to your onesie. That simple! Running it through the dryer will set the adhesive.

Be sure to Leave Instructions

I prepped a sheet of instructions to leave on the onesie decorating table so that guests could make sense of everything.

DOWNLOAD THE ONESIE STATION PRINTABLE

Click below to download the instruction sheet. It’s a perfect way to give your guests instructions on how to decorate the onesies and not have to monitor the area the whole time!

Supplies for Baby Shower Onesie Decorating

I stocked the table with a few extra supplies: scissors, pens/pencils, scrap paper, a couple of irons, and a small ironing board.

I was so happy to see the results of all this planning! Baby ended up with a whole pile of clothes that are definitely cute enough to wear for a good long time. Everybody had a good time figuring out how to decorate their pieces, and it was all pretty quick and easy. And I’m still feeling pretty smug for making a baby shower onesie decorating station that doesn’t suck. xoxo

– I want to go to the toilet normally. I want to live a normal life
I just want to give a shit as a person. Why don’t you write in the kitchen or in the room?
– [?] There is a lot of space, I’m uncomfortable
– Oh, a lot of space, are you uncomfortable? Then build a hut on a tree and live there for yourself
– It’s with pleasure
– Nts, fucking, the ashes would at least wash away after itself, damn it

[Verse]
How much paper in life we spend on ass –
From floor to Mars
It would be a typewriter
That ass would release a hundred novels
The more books, the more cockroaches in the head
The more cockroaches in the head, the further the thought
What is the next thought ?…
… The less I want to stuff my stomach with poison.
The cleaner the stomach, the less ass
And when the ass is normal, then the day seems not to be a diarrhea waste
Smoothly moving away from the ass, now the theme of God
Or maybe not? There are all sorts of karmas and mantras
Questions are sharper than the fangs of Count Dracula
Death is a club, but the security does not let me in
I am like a youngster. There are many broths here
Those who know how to let the soul out
But in the civilized thickets there are simpler recipes
I know one outside the people, outside the race –
This is poverty, mighty poverty
Such an Antigod with the anti-gift of illusion
Maybe God is an antidote to the cholera of consciousness
Maybe – how I hate it “maybe”
Even more than “if”
If my friend had not gone to that party then
They would not have been found in the ditch, and friends would not have recognized
How a loved one leaves us without goodbye
Oh wicked if only.If you just died …
So, what does God have to do with it and why is there paper
I stood at the station and watched the timetable
The station is the fucking most fucking place in the world
The same fucking orgasm
In orgasm you die for a split second
And at the station the moment freezes
Only one thing is sad –
When no one meets a person at the station
But he wrote a letter on paper and believed in God

[Chorus] x3
It looks like someone is giving the command again, but not you
You are just a fish on stilts, a business lunch for the jungle
At certain times you are even super
But the rest of the time – cloth for the Moon

Without a suit I will be eaten in it
I will become flesh on a golden fork
I wish I was sick
Why is it so lousy inside
In my chest
I smoke so much sativa days
All days of my life
Mingled into one
Day
Who fizzed
Fuck those
Spirit born in emptiness
9000 3 You know, I can take off
But I’m wearing a suit made of bodies
(A, uh huh, ah, uh huh)
And it’s sticky as fucked up
Was everywhere, I’ll stay here
Birds in packs, like a ballet
Platinum moonlight
I’m waving my dull century
Chelik-subhuman

[Chorus]
The body pulls me
Century after century I dream like
Alien
Put on a human skin
Cut is not perfect
Molecule tissue along the bottom
Alien 9003 Human
Posthel Alien

[Verse 2] Why Wear a Pig Suit?
Don’t stand, take it off as soon as possible
There is a thick layer of mold on it

Scabs hang down to the ground
Pig face
I will forever remain among them
Bonds are severed
And to this day we are different
We have a ticket to the Moon in our hand
But there are stones M-boulders in our socks
, the days change me
Vices of the fauna beckon
Ma-ma-ma
Mama mia!
I have anemia
I look dull, I walk through rot
There is a lump of dust in my throat
A foot in the grave
Another’s life
Memories
And thoughts
Kill, use me
Do it quickly
Rizla roll
There is no point
Fight the shit
in this world of whore we will die
Earth, welcome

[Chorus]
The body pulls me
Century after century I dream as
Alien
Put on the skin of a man
Cut is not ideal
Tissue of molecules by aliens
Suplanin

[Post-Chorus]
