Hand Made Karma: Paisley Splash Elephant Baby Quilt

We learned earlier this year that our nephew and his wife are expecting a child!  It will be the first baby in the next generation on either side of our family, so it’s quite an exciting event.  Of course, a baby quilt was in order, and not just one of simple squares of various cute fabrics.  So the search began for patterns and ideas.
Paisley Splash Elephant Quilt

I found this free pattern from Wyndham Fabrics (note, link stopped working; see bottom of post).  It is slightly geared toward their collection of fabrics, some of which are paisley, but easily adaptable to your own selection of fabrics.  There are a lot of great ideas for color schemes from others on Pinterest and Google, but I particularly like the addition of the little baby elephant holding an umbrella by this quilter.

To make the baby elephant template, I reduced the template provided for the large one, but it took a few tries to get the right size.   I think my first mistake was that my math was off because for the large elephant, the instructions say to enlarge it 200%, so in the end I think I made this elephant 75% the size of the original template.  I drew the umbrella by hand; not to difficult.

My first resizing attempt made the baby elephant way too small, so I used that one for the label!  So cute.

Fortunately, I had downloaded the PDF of the instructions, so since the link to the pattern no longer works, here is a link to it from this blog.  Please honor the copyright.

  • Lo, Ray, & Me: Easy Baby quilt

LET US PREFACE THIS POST: Be sure to iron your fabric with spray starch before cutting AND make sure your seams are truly 1/4″. If not, your quilt will not measure up correctly. If you are a beginning quilter, check the position of your needle and make a note of where you set it so all seams will measure correctly.

The pattern given uses 1/4 inch seams, the measurements are for CUTTING fabric, which includes seam allowance.

Fabric from JoAnns gets a bad rap, even from me! I normally only buy from joanns for one of the following uses:
    -The back of quilts
-Minky (because let’s face it, it’s CHEAP)
    -Kids clothes
-Flannel for jammies or pillow cases

But when it comes to my quilts, I’ve become a fabric snob, you can definitely feel the difference from joanns fabric and the overpriced fabric at the quilt store (OK maybe it’s not overpriced, but I spend A LOT of money there!).

This quilt happened when my mom was in town and I needed to make a baby quilt ASAP since I would soon be going out of town as well. I knew I wanted this design since I saw it on pinterest (love the pinterest, I’m trying to get them to hire me as a professional pin tester). I knew that I needed 7 strips of fabric and some white. Shouldn’t be too hard right! Unless you’re me and you’re very picky about what you buy. I found a couple cute prints and settled on the elephants since they’re super adorable! Plus I love the grey with blue, orange, and green. I wanted stripes and polka dots, but that was proving to be challenging at joanns. They are (or were) quite limited on the stripe/polka dot selection. I finally decided on 6 other fabrics, and got 1/4 yard of each, except the green, I got a little extra since I knew I wanted it for binding. Then I grabbed some off-white… it had little vines of flowers or something in the print, but once I had the batting and back on, I couldn’t even tell. My mom and I put it together in about and hour, and then we machine quilted it. I love machine quilting really small projects. Big projects…. That’s another post for another day. This was easy since we just did lines, which is a look I really, really like. It’s simple, cute, and best of all, I didn’t have to pay to have this quilted!!! Binding on, washed and dried, and we had a SUPER CUTE & SIMPLE baby quilt!

Oh I should mention that I did NOT use a pattern for this. I started quilting about 13 months ago, and after about 3 quilts I stopped buying patterns. YES it is a lot harder to have to think about measurements, and seams, and how much fabric needed. This pattern might not be perfect since my mom and I just kind of figured it out, but here are the measurements.

You will need 1/4 yard of  7 different fabrics, 3/4 yard of white, 1/2 yard for the binding, and about 1 2/3 yards for the back and batting

    For your WHITE

    4 white strips 1 1/2 x 43 1/2 inches
    7 whites 1 1/2 x 27/1/2 inches
    9 white strips 1 1/2 x 6 1/2 inches

In your color fabric you need
    6 fabrics 6 1/2 x 27 1/2 inches
the same 6 fabrics cut 6 1/2 x 6 1/2 inches for the block on the right side of the quilt
    1 fabric for your vertical strip 6 1/2 x 41 1/2 inches

    Your finished quilt will be
    43 1/2 x 43 1/2

I ended up being in love with this quilt (even with joanns fabric) and this is a pattern I would definitely use again!

I have seen many versions of this quilt, if you use this pattern to make one, I would LOVE to see it! I love how quilters can take a pattern, but turn it into something completely unique and their own! Please post any pics!

    Part One

    “Martin doesn’t cry”

    Chapter 1

    “No,” Ida said.
    “Yes,” Mark said.
    “Please,” said Jeremy and Lou.
“Children,” said Ida, “you want my death.
“Children,” Mark said, “Ida is joking.
“No,” said Jeremy and Lou, “we don’t want you dead, we want an elephant.
“It’s not at all clear what,” said Ida.
    “It’s an elephant,” Mark said.
    “Please,” said Jeremy and Lou.
    – And I beg you too, – Martin said.

    And then everyone was silent.

In fact, Martin was not yet called Martin at all – his name was Test tube Seven. At that very momentous moment when Test Tube Seven said “And I beg you too, ”he almost lost his life, because Jeremy, all this while holding the elephant in his arms wrapped in a large green towel, from in amazement, he dropped his load to the floor, and Test Tube Seven immediately passed out.

Lou screamed as Jeremy dropped to his knees and began to jerk the elephant. He spoke:

    – Oh shit! Elephant, dear, please wake up! Heck! Elephant! Well what is it this! Come to your senses! Well! – and at the same time fiddling with the ears of Test Tubes Seven and for some reason tried to stretch out the elephant’s trunk and lay it evenly. Ida held on to the whiskey and said: “Oh my God!” – and Mark immediately poured the remnants of the warm sweet tea from her cup. The elephant did not open its eyes, but often breathed and licked its lips. Everyone was quiet for a second, and even Lou stopped squealing, and Test Tube Seven said, without opening eyes:

    – Thank you very much.Very tasty. Sorry, I’m a little unwell. –

    And then he vomited.

Two hours later, Jeremy and Lou lay quietly in their beds, turning out the lights and hiding farther away were the lanterns with which they read under the covers on other nights. They did not talk, did not demand that Ida bring them cocoa, and did not think to climb through the window onto the roof to “explore space”. They acted very, very very good, because they were told that “one awkward movement – and no elephants. “And there were elephants. In a TV box, on a piece of woolen cloth cut off by Mark from an old coat, under a large green towel with Test Tube Seven slept with white stars. Lou listened to the even breathing of the elephant, and Jeremy – what was said behind the wall, in the room of Mark and Ida. It was hard to hear, but Jeremy still managed to grasp the general meaning of the conversation.

    – I may be bububububububub, but bububu can be contagious! Or aggressive! Or what the devil will the bububu say to them! – said Ida.
    – Bububububu imagine that the parents would bubble us an elephant if bubo boo boo boo boo boo boo! – answered Mark.
    – Oh my God, Mark, you know that they are bubububu their mind! Well, I’m sorry, but we people are bububu, and mom and dad are bubububu children! Bubububububu!
“Ida, stop it,” Mark said. – I’m going to go to bed and you bububububu. Even if we didn’t want an elephant bububa, we would have a bububu bubu him send.
“We could give it to Dina,” Ida said.“She’s also not bubu ume. V just like mom and dad.
“Booboo, Ida,” Mark said. – All sleep.

    And they parted.

Jeremy chewed a nail on his little finger, then twisted the muzzle out of the tip duvet cover, and then got out of bed and walked over to the box with the elephant. Lou immediately jumped out of his bed and also sat down over the rookery of Test Tube Seven.

    – Hey! – said Jeremy in a whisper. The elephant breathed evenly and did not respond. – Eeeee! – repeated Jeremy and tugged lightly at Test Tube Seven by the trunk.
“Good morning,” the elephant said sleepily.
    – No, not morning, – said Jeremy, – you sleep on. I just wanted to say you that now your name is Martin. Do you hear?
    – Martin, – said the elephant, – Maaaaaartin. It’s awfully cute. – And immediately fell asleep again.
“Didn’t ask me,” Lou said resentfully.

    Chapter 2

Martin, formerly called Test Tube Seven, sat on a stool and trunk spread jam on toast.Jeremy drank coffee in small sips while Lou stood by the window and looked out for a neighbor’s cat. Their older brother and sister, Ida and Mark, were going to go about your business – Mark was an artist and was window-dressing in a large supermarket, and Ida was a speech therapist and taught children to pronounce words correctly and letters. Perhaps that is why Mark was always ready for any kind of art, although he was twenty-five years old, and Ida, who had just turned twenty-three, often behaved strictly and liked that everything was always formulated clear and clear. When Jeremy and Lou tried to lie or tell stories, Ida said: “I don’t hear metal in my voice” – and the younger brothers knew that the party lost.

Ida, Mark, Jeremy and Lou, of course, had a dad and a mom, but the children saw them very, very rare: mom and dad lived and worked in India, where they studied cloning. They were scientists and loved their work more than anything else – sometimes Jeremy and Lou, and Ida and Mark too, it seemed that their parents loved work more than themselves. But mom and dad often wrote letters to them and sent them electronic cards. Jeremy and Lou wrote to mom and dad in turn, Mark – when I had time, and Ida – every day. She was very disciplined and responsible. girl. So when she entered the room and saw Martin spreading a toast jam, dipping the trunk into the jar, she said in pain:

    – Oh my God, Martin! With a knife!

Martin was ashamed, licked the tip of his trunk and took a knife into it, muttering: “Sorry, Ida!” Jeremy winked at the elephant, and Lou, who managed to climb onto the windowsill kneeled, yelled: “Here she is! Here she is!” – and loud whistled.

“Lou,” Jeremy said, “she can’t hear you.

The eldest of two brothers, eight-year-old Lou, fought with a neighbor’s cat for a long time Alice, and the youngest, six-year-old Jeremy, in his own words, “carried responsibility for resolving this conflict ”. Jeremy looked like Ida – strict, serious and discreet. The older brother almost always obeyed the younger – unless, of course, they were at school and no one saw them. In public, Lou called Jeremy was a “little thing” and a “slider”, and Jeremy was shaking his head and saying: “Monstrous infantilism.”

Now Lou couldn’t launch anything into the cat that came out onto the neighbor’s balcony. the windows were closed, so Jeremy calmly continued drinking coffee and reading newspaper. Martin jumped off the stool, moved to another and began to eat toast and read the newspaper from the other side. Everyone mumbled quietly for a while. Jeremy and Lou there was no need to go anywhere, because there was a vacation, and the new year was still quite clean and fresh, and even the remains of the chocolate cake in the refrigerator have not yet covered with a matte film. The younger brothers were delighted to anticipate that now the elders will run away, and the house will remain in their own disposal: Ida and Mark have been throwing Lou at Jeremy with a calm heart since since Jeremy was four years old.

Jeremy was immersed in a newspaper, the front door slammed, releasing the adults, and Lou immediately jumped off the windowsill and rushed to the phone; before Jeremy managed to catch his older brother, he dialed the number and managed to shout in handset:

    – The cat is dead, the tail is peeled off! The cat is dead, the tail is peeled off! The cat is ready…

Jeremy finally got to the phone and pulled the lever, but Lou was already laughing and bounced up, swinging his fists over his head in a victorious gesture, and from the neighbor a clear, girlish voice rushed through the windows, audible even through tightly closed windows:

    – Lushka-cannon-fools, stay at home, do not get sick !!

Martin looked with great interest from one brother to another, forgetting close your mouth and dripping jam from toast onto the tablecloth, and Jeremy said “Oh my God!” in a completely Identical voice and trudged down to the front door – he already knew that will happen now.

And indeed, literally a minute later, the bell rang down below. Jeremiah slowly, with all its appearance, demonstrating fatigue and exhaustion by the monstrous the infantilism of those around him, he began to unlock, and the giggling Lou remained upstairs – hide behind the railing. Then Martin put down the toast, jumped off the stool and ran to the stairs – to look at an unexpected guest.

    Chapter 3

The girl Dina, who lived on the same staircase with Ida, Mark, Lou, Jeremy and little talking elephant Martin, who came from India and used to be named Test Tube Seven, there was a cat named Alice.”Alice” Dinin the cat was named by her sister when on Dinino’s sixth birthday she brought a tiny kitten. The kitten was almost pink and then turned into a big ginger cat, and Lou hated that cat. Every time Lou saw Alice, he whistled to her after, or let something not very heavy at her, or, not having the opportunity whistle or throw something at the cat, just make faces at the cat, although understood that, in general, making faces at a cat is very stupid, because the cat, on by and large, absolutely do not care about our faces. A cat – and Lou knew it by our own experience – in response to our protruding ears, mowing eyes and painful sticking out of his tongue as far as possible only looks at us from inimitable compassion; sometimes Lou thought that if the cat was a speaker like Martin, she would quietly ask, “Are you feeling sick?” But the cat just looked at Lou, protruding his ears and squinting his eyes behind tightly closed glass, a transparent, compassionate gaze, and Lou became very ashamed, and then he was even more angry with Alice.

Therefore, when Lou could not properly tease Alice, he would strictly forbidden, but very seductive act: he called Dina and shouted into the phone: “The cat is dead, the tail has peeled off! The cat is dead, the tail is peeled off! The cat is dead, the tail is peeled off! ” And then Dina lost her temper and rushed to the next flat to tell Lou a few sweet words. And this time she also flew into door and shouted loudly:

    – Lou is a nasty pig! Lou is a nasty pig! Lou is a nasty pig!

Usually Dina came up with some inventive, outstanding and offensive chants, for example, “Lushka-gun-fools, stay at home, do not get sick!” or “Silly Lou standing in the corner, stuck his head in a broom! ”, but today nothing came of it, and she just screamed:

    – Lou is a nasty pig! Lou is a nasty pig! Lou is a nasty pig!

Then Lou giggled even louder, and Dina rushed up the stairs to should deal with the offender.

In fact, Lou, Dinah and Jeremy were inseparable friends – and it was therefore they sometimes quarreled very terribly. Feathers flew and darkened in my eyes, so they sometimes hated each other, and a couple of times Mark and Ida even break up fights, although the rest of the time they were very decent children, you can even say mild. And Jeremy generally considered himself a pacifist. Dina and her parents moved to the one-pillar house where Ida, Jeremy, Lou and Mark lived, and now and Martin, more than a year ago, and there wasn’t a week that the brothers didn’t come Dina’s house or Dina didn’t come to visit them.

This trio had a whole bunch of little secrets from the rest of the world and about ten big secrets, and even one Very Terrible Secret, and now Dina rushed up the stairs with the firm determination to properly call Lou, and disheveled red hair rushed after her like a mane, and short pants rustled as if a thousand angry cats hissed. To be honest, Lou was seriously scared and intended give a drapak and lock himself in the bedroom, – but suddenly, with all his might something gray and soft and hit the floor painfully, and Dina for some reason stood and did not say a word, and, it seems, did not even move, but standing below Jeremy, amazed that he did not hear the rumble of the battle, looked up – and measured.

    – What is this? Dina asked.
“It’s an elephant,” Lou said in a shrunken voice.
    “Oh my God,” Dina said.
    “Wow,” Jeremy said.
    – Good afternoon, – Martin said.
    “Oh my God,” Dina said.
    “He’s a speaker,” Lou said.
“His name is Martin,” Jeremy said.
“Out of your mind,” Dina said.
    – I think I’m in love, – Martin said.

    Chapter 4

Elephants can fall in love.Martin, formerly called Test Tube Seven, was not a very ordinary elephant – it was made by the mom and dad of Mark, Ida, Lou and Jeremy in far, distant Indian cloning laboratory. Therefore, no one really knew what Martin can do from what ordinary elephants can and what not. For example, Martin was a talking and even reading elephant; he knew how to use a knife and fork, and was also polite, attentive to the interlocutor and never blew his nose into the carpet, although the temptation was terrible.Usually elephants do not know how. But Martin did not know how, for example, to eat cane or pour water over himself as bathing, as ordinary elephants can do from early childhood. Martin I had to bathe in a hot bath, and certainly with coconut foam. Jeremiah sincerely suspected that bathing was unclean, but bathing Martin it was pleasant, he steamed with his trunk, like people in baths steamed with a broom, and blown big soap bubbles for him and Lou, which flew under the ceiling coconut spray.Jeremy and Lou used a baby bath for bathing. which the brothers once washed when they were very young, because Martin, although he was an adult elephant, was also, in general, quite small. But now Jeremy and Lou watched in horror an elephant much larger than an average dog – for example, a spaniel. When Martin came running to look at unexpected guest, he stood between the railing sticks and looked down, and now the railing gripped him tightly, and when two sticks at the elephant’s sides loudly crunched and broke, everyone said

    – Oh.

“Martin,” Jeremy said, “what the hell.
    – It’s not devil, – Martin said, – it’s me. I’m in love.
    – Leave it alone, – said Jeremy, – why are you so huge?
    – You’re out of your mind, he is very small for an elephant! – said Dina.
“Wait,” Jeremy said. – Martin, well?
    – I’m worried, – Martin said.
    – And how worried I am! Jeremy said. – Are you growing up?
    – I don’t know, – Martin said, – it’s a difficult question.

He looked at Dina, his gaze clouded over – and suddenly Martin became taller by as much as ten centimeters, and two more sticks crunched together with the crossbar railings.

    – I think I’ll step back, – Martin said, slowly getting out of the railing and without taking his eyes off Dina. Now he occupied almost the entire staircase, and Lou, who was sitting on the floor, had to move to the very edge of the step.
    “Oh my God,” Dina said.
    – I’m worried, – Martin said.- I shouldn’t worry. I was warned. But I am very worried, very, very. – And then he suddenly added to the size, so that Lou had to jump up and down a couple of steps, and Dina – back away and snuggle up against the wall.
    – What do you mean – you can’t? – shouted Jeremy, – You can’t ?! Can i?! You me, you will bring me to an infraction!
    – Sorry, Jeremy, – Martin said, – don’t shout at me, because I already I worry, and when I worry, I grow. I was warned.
    – And to what size? Lou asked.
    – Unknown, – Martin said.
    – And why did you start to worry? Lou asked.
    – I’m in love. – Martin said, and his gaze became clouded again, but then the children were one voice screamed:
    – Hey! Hey! Hey! – and Jeremy said:
    – We have two two hundred ceilings. We urgently take him out into the yard. We’ll figure it out there.

    Chapter 5

When Dinah, Jeremy and Lou worked together to shove Martin, which has become the size of a large, large chair, in the doorway, it turned out that the weather outside was perfectly fine – and therefore into the courtyard in any moment one of the neighbors could get out.

    – What to do? Jeremy asked. – Speak quickly, while there is no one.
    – I don’t know, – Martin said. – Perhaps an irreversible process. Love. Scary a business. The heart plows like a pump. Dina, I love you.
    “Oh my God,” Dina said.
    – Tell me what it means “What a pleasant surprise!” – said Martin, – and then Lou squealed, because Martin became even bigger and squeezed him leg.
“Tell him now, Dina,” Jeremy said.“We’ll go crazy here.”
“What a pleasant surprise,” Dina said.
    – Sounds insincere. It’s a shame, girl, – Martin said. – I’m serious.
    “Shrink immediately,” Jeremy said.
    – I can’t, – Martin said. – I can’t, I don’t know the ways. This problem is nobody interested. From a research point of view. By-effect.
    “Oh my God,” Jeremy said.
    – Sorry, – said Martin
“I’ll run away now,” Dina said.
    – Well, here you are, – said Martin, – what a horror. – and became the size of cupboard.

Elephants, as mentioned earlier, know how to fall in love. They have this species, genetic. They fall in love once and for all. And the word “always” lasts for years three hundred. And three hundred years old an elephant who fell in love with someone, no one else in the whole world does not notice. So Martin had a good idea of three hundred years of lonely mooing after Dina ran away, and immediately became agitated, and greatly increased in sizes. And then Jeremy realized that it was impossible to pull further.

“So that’s it,” Jeremy said. – Dina, go home immediately. Martin, not roll your eyes, she’ll be back. But not now. We’re in trouble now.
    – You will return? – Martin asked.
    – I’ll be back, – said Dina, – if I don’t wake up from this terrible dream. Crazy get off. An elephant is in love with me.
    – Come back, – Martin said. – I have love for you forever. Elephants have very long “forever”. So you can count on me.
    – Certainly, – said Dina and evaporated.

    Martin sighed.

“Lou,” Jeremy said, “bring the keys to the garage. They hang at the door.
    “It won’t fit,” Lou said.
“Fits if he doesn’t worry,” Jeremy said.
    – I can’t help but worry. – Martin said. – The object of my love rode away in in the darkness of the night, and I am tormented by forebodings.
“It’s four o’clock in the afternoon,” Jeremy said. “Stop it now.
    – I will holotropically breathe to calm myself. – Martin said.
“For heaven’s sake,” Jeremy said, “just don’t pull in the rags in the garage like a vacuum cleaner.
    – This is not a mockery, – Martin said.
“Sorry,” Jeremy said, “and he and Lou took Martin into the garage.

Martin fit, but it was quite clear that there were a couple more worries – and from the garage will not pull it out.

    Chapter 6

If anyone had thought to look into the garage after Jeremy and Lou hid Martin there, then he would have decided that he had lost his mind and was hallucinating: the garage of an ordinary city house was small (for those who did not know what Martin’s normal size) an elephant, and in front of him are two boys, eight and six years old sang, told scary stories, shouted loudly and even tried to extract very plaintive sounds from two harmonicas. Finally Lou and Jeremy finally exhausted.

“I can’t,” Jeremy said. “He’s not shrinking from anything.
“I’m about to fall off my feet,” Lou said.

Martin looked at the brothers very guiltily.

    – But you managed to scare me very well with the story with the mouse. I swear. My veins were shaking and my heart was shaking. You have a huge talent for scarecrows. – he said.
    – You’d better shrink. Lou said.
“Leave him, he’s not to blame,” Jeremy said.
    – And you managed to very high quality touch me with that song about …
“Don’t make excuses, Martin,” Jeremy said. – somehow it will be settled.
    – I am very worried that … – Martin began, and his eyes clouded over.
    – Nooo! – shouted Jeremy and Lou, and Martin hastily continued:
    – I’m not worried! I’m not worried! It’s just … uh … I’m worried that I put you in this awkward position.

Lou looked at a large green towel with white stars. It used to be lay on Martin’s back as a blanket, and now Martin covered the top of his head with it, like a handkerchief. The towel seemed very small to Lou.

    – Everything, – Martin said. – That’s all for today. Please. I’m worn out by the wave … uh … worries, and also have to consider a plan for courting my woman dreams. Do you know which flowers she prefers? Candies? Toys? Literary works? And, most importantly, does she like big men?
    “Oh my God,” Jeremy said.
“She hates roses,” Lou said. – And from chocolate she has diathesis. AND generally from sweet.
    – How wonderful, – Martin said.
    – Why? Jeremy asked.
    – I don’t know, – Martin said, – I am moved by her infirmities.
“She wants a scooter,” Lou said. – And she can read “Winnie the Pooh” by two vote. I don’t know big men. She once beat one guy for a couple heads above her. But he was still a goat. And you are not a goat.
“Lou, don’t give him unfounded hopes,” Jeremy said.
    – I would ask, – Martin said.
“I’m going to sleep right here,” Lou said.

And the brothers closed the garage door and wandered into the house.

Above the small one-pillar house where Mark, Ida, Jeremy and Lou lived, sky just beginning to turn blue; fat pigeons slept on the balcony railing, stars still seemed quite bright, and the dawn crept slowly over the city and itself, it seems, periodically fell asleep on the way. Jeremy opened his eyes and for a long time could not understand that woke him up. The alarm clock was silent, Lou snored, burying his face in the pillow and tucking his left leg under him, no sound came from the rooms of Mark and Ida, but something was wrong. Finally, Jeremy realized: over the house, swimming through the windows, lay low lingering beep. It interrupted and came up again, and interrupted again, and Jeremy thought that the hum was trying to turn into a melody. And then he realized what it was buzzing. As he was, in his pajamas, he rushed out of bed, on I put slippers on my bare feet and rushed down the stairs. He opened door, looked towards the garage and immediately jumped back into the house and slammed a door. For a few seconds he stood with his eyes wide open and tried to digest what he saw, and then took more air into his lungs and shouted:

    – Mark! Maaaaaaaaark!

    Chapter 7

When Martin was worried, he began to grow, and from the moment he met a girl Dinah, Jeremy and Lou’s best friend, was all he worried about. He worried that he hadn’t made the proper first impression on Dinah. He worried that he would not be able to make a proper second impression on Dinah. He worried that he could not find a common language with Dina. He worried making up plan for tomorrow. He was worried that he would not be able to sleep properly. before such a responsible event. He worried how everyone worries lovers who do not know what awaits them – be they people or elephants.

And so Martin grew very, very, very strong. In its normal he was the size of a cat, and this morning Mark, Ida, Jeremy and Lou, dressed somehow, in a coat thrown over their shoulders, and in boots on bare feet, they ran around garage and racked their brains over how to get the stuck Martin out of it, who had grown up overnight and now did not pass through the garage door. They gave Martin advice, tried to smear his sides with door oil loops and even thought of pulling him on a rope. Finally everyone gave up. Fearfully shy, feeling very guilty, deathly tired Martin Iso tried his best not to worry and even suggested that everyone present some cheerful song.

    “Oh my God,” Ida said.
    – Everything. Call the firemen. Let them take the roof off, ”Mark said.

An hour later, around house number seven, where Mark, Ida, Jeremy and Lou lived, whose mother and dad worked in a laboratory in far, distant India and, unfortunately, could not to see everything that was happening, there were four fire trucks and a crane.Firefighters dismantled the roof, and workers who arrived on the crane let under Martin’s belly of the winch. They were going to lift Martin through the disassembled roof and put on the site in front of the garage.

“I’ll have skin irritation from the winches,” Martin said. – I AM absolutely not worried about this, do not worry, but it would be good somebody ran to the pharmacy and got three or four kilos of baby cream. I do not I want to add physical suffering to my mental suffering.
    – Lou, please, – Martin said.
    “Forty tubes,” Jeremy said.
    “Sixty,” Ida said.
    – A little? – said Mark.
“I’ll drown myself in what’s left,” said Ida.

    Chapter 8

At ten o’clock in the morning, the street on which the house with one column stood was blocked. Anyone from whom business was not required to be present in offices, shops or banks, leaned out of windows or huddled against the walls of houses and looked with delight on what was happening on the roadway. They whistled, shouted out greetings and waved their hands, hats, umbrellas, and rolled-up newspapers. And by Martin was walking along the road.

Martin tried his best not to worry, because when he was worried, he grew up. And in a distant Indian laboratory, where Martin was brought to light and awarded the old name “Test Tube Seven”, no one asked what needs to be done, to make Martin shrink. Therefore, Martin could not be worried in any way, but terribly wanted.Because Martin was going to win the heart of a woman who loved for life. Her name was Dina, she was seven years old and she studied in one school with Jeremy and Lou, and also lived next door to them. From the very moment as Martin met Dina, he only did what he was worried about. And now he was the size of a real elephant. That is, with a small house. And walked along towards school. He was accompanied by four fire trucks and one lift truck. tap.

In order not to worry, Martin was thinking about white mice all the time.White mice with early childhood had a calming effect on him. There were a lot of them in the laboratory, and all are lively; usually elephants are afraid of mice, but this is probably because due to their enormous stature cannot see them properly. Martin is in normal state was a very small elephant and therefore knew that mice – cutest creatures. Therefore, now, walking to Dina, Martin thought about white mice. V he held a huge bouquet of daisies in his trunk, and on his back stood two cans top-notch herring (“There will be no diathesis,” said Jeremy, “that’s for sure. Will nervous breakdown”. “Normal for a girl in love,” Martin said and asked the saleswoman to wrap the herring in gold paper and tie it with a wide tape). At night he wrote a beautiful serenade, “a little like Tchaikovsky, but very charming, ”and intended to perform it in front of the classroom window, where Dinu was just being taught how to add eleven and thirteen. Usually serenades performed under the window, not in front of it, but Martin was very large, and the window the classroom was located only on the second floor.

When a little boy rushed into Jeremy’s classroom and shouted: “Elephant! Elephant! There is an elephant in the schoolyard !!! ” – Jeremy froze and rushed to window. Indeed, Martin was standing right in the middle of the schoolyard, next to him Lou, who had already managed to run out, was spinning, and from the fire truck, which had at a distance, Mark and Ida got out. Martin tried his best not to crush none of the admiring disciples who poured into the courtyard and kept repeating:

    – Please, dear ladies and gentlemen, not under your feet, not under your feet, ladies and gentlemen, and especially beware of the rear ones, I can’t feel them under me at all now. The front ones are still somehow, but the rear ones are not at all. The heart falls into them, into the most heels. Sorry young man, you don’t know a divine woman by name Dina? She’s in first grade here. Young lady please don’t hang on my trunk, and would you be so kind as to help me find a young lady named Dina who …

But then Dina ran out of the practically empty school building. At the sight of her Martin frantically imagined a white mouse, but immediately felt that he had grown at least ten centimeters.

    – Oops! – everyone said.
    – Dina, it’s you, – Martin said. – Dina, I really need to talk to you. It would be nice to be alone, but in our situation, apparently, there is no chance. But then I would like at least eye to eye.

Dina spoke with an elephant for the first time in her life the day before, when she met Martin visiting Jeremy and Lou. Then Martin was only the size of a cat but in her presence it grew to the size of a small closet, and Dina, though not in no case was she a coward, and once even beat a guy with a whole head higher than herself, then all the same Martina was somewhat frightened. But now Martin was huge, huge, huge elephant – and for some reason Dina completely stopped be afraid of him. Gently shifting from foot to foot, with green in white stars a towel tied around the tail as a bow, with a bouquet of daisies and two tins of herring Martin looked so touching, kind and pitiful that Dinah immediately wanted to pat him on the head. But now it would surely be completely inappropriate. And Dina looked around, wondering what to climb to he and Martin could talk by looking into each other’s eyes. Then the boss one of the fire trucks that accompanied Mratin all the way to school, suggested that Dina climb into the cradle at the end of the long “trunk” of the car and climb to the desired height. And Dina got up.

Standing in the cradle, she looked into Martin’s huge, worried eye. She reflected in the eye almost entirely, along with the railing of the cradle.

“I’m going to go crazy,” Dina said.
    – From happiness? Really, Dina, tell me it’s with joy, ”asked Martin.
    “Out of weirdness,” Dina said.
    – Complex emotion, – Martin said. – it’s so good that you are not out of strangeness growing. However, I would love you in any form. Even huge and with diathesis.
“I don’t have diathesis now,” Dina said.
    – And it never will, – Martin said. – I will not admit it. I will be your knight and Your war elephant, Dina. Here are flowers and a herring for you; I would give you my heart but I’m afraid it has become a bit big, and it will knock you off your feet.Dina, come out marry me.

    Everyone gasped.

    – Madhouse, – said Dina.
    – More delicately, – Martin said, – I still make you an offer. Be my forever. Truth. I have very little left to live, two hundred and ninety years, and I want to spend them all with you. Agree. I can play the bagpipes. With me you will not be lost.
    – Dear Martin, – said Dina, – I like you very much.
    – I feel a catch, – Martin said.
“Really,” Dina said. – True true. Now I am very much this. Sincerely. But I I can’t marry you.
“You don’t love me,” Martin said.
“I love you very much,” said Dina. – Just …
    – Oh my God, – Martin said and grew up again. Now he was looking at Dinah again a little from top to bottom.
“… I’m just a little girl,” Dina said bravely. From pity to Martin’s heart was breaking.
    – I understand, – Martin said, – and I’m a huge elephant. The beauty and the Beast. We bound by the framework of the archetype.
    – It’s not because of any not because of the type, – said Dina, – I’m just small girl and can’t marry anyone. To get married, one must become an adult aunt. And I want to be a little girl. At least another ten years.
    – On my scale, – Martin said, – ten years is nothing. Tell me and I will wait.
    – Don’t, Martin, please! – said Dina. – When someone is waiting for you grow up, there is no joy in being a little girl. And from longing at once growing up.
    – Childish wisdom under the crust of infant diathesis, – Martin said, – I finally smitten. Dina, you are my idol.

And then Dina saw a huge tear rolling down Martin’s trunk.

    Martin was crying.

    Someone downstairs said:

    – Poor thing!

And Dina’s throat caught in compassion. Then she stood up on tiptoe, reached out her hand as high as possible and stroked Martin on the head.Elephants tears kept flowing and flowing, and Dina kept stroking and stroking Martin’s head, and suddenly realized that now she would fall out of the fire cradle – she had leaned over the railing down to reach the warm gray crown!

    – It decreases! – shouted Lou, who stood closest to Martin, – Martin, when you cry, you shrink!
    – I’m not crying anymore, – Martin said, – I try to remember the moment of this inexpressible tenderness for two hundred and ninety years.
    – And all the same you are decreasing! Lou shouted. – Dina, well, stroke him again!

The firefighter in the car pulled the lever, the cradle with Dina dropped lower, and Dina she stroked Martin’s head again. Martin immediately became noticeably smaller. Now he was only slightly taller than the fire engine.

    – Wow! – everyone said.

Lou tried to stroke Martin’s leg, but Martin remained the same; then Dina stroked the elephant’s head again, and it became smaller.Dina stroked and stroked Martin on the head, and he humbly sighed and shrank, and when it was all over, Martin was his same size, that is, about the size of a cat, and Dina got out from the fire cradle and squatted in front of him, and the whole school, Jeremy, Lou, Ida and Martin stood around them. Then Martin quietly said:

    – I’m very tired.

A large green towel with white stars, tied with a bow, lay on earth. Dina picked it up, untied it, brushed it off, wrapped Martin in it, took and carried him to the one-pillar house where Ida, Mark, Jeremy and Lou lived. and where Martin lived in a large TV box covered with a fat a piece of woolen fabric for comfort and warmth.

    Chapter 9

Martin was lying in a box, covered with a green towel with white stars. Eyes he was stuck together from the worries he had endured and the sleepless last night, but he was completely calm, because next to him on the floor sat Dina. The room was burning just a big night light. Dina promised to be with Martin tonight until he fall asleep.

    – Dina, you are my friend, right? Are you not angry with me? – said Martin.
    – Yes, – said Dina, – I am a very friend to you.
    – Thank you, – Martin said.
“Not at all,” Dina said. – Aren’t you angry with me? Are you my friend too?
    – No, – Martin said, – no, Dina, I’m not your friend. I am your knight and war elephant. Can. will I be your knight and war elephant?
    – I will be very pleased, – said Dina ..
    – I can play the bagpipes, as it was mentioned once today, – said Martin. – This is a big deal. War elephant playing the bagpipes aiming at the enemy unbearable horror. The enemy is fleeing.
“I feel very secure,” Dina said. – Only, dear Martin, please don’t worry so much anymore.
“I won’t be so strong,” Martin said. – Another two hundred and ninety years, I hope. Plus or minus one day. But then there will already be a completely different story, then can. But sometimes I’ll still be a little worried, Dina. For you to come and stroked my head. Not too often, don’t worry. Can? – asked Martin.
    – You can, – said Dina.

    Anything else

Complete MK according to Elephant (with straps).

At the end of December 2014, the Format-M publishing house published

And even earlier, I made only a small photo-MK for pull-ups.
Today I present to you a complete and detailed MK, in which I will tell you how to make such a positive Elephant with a voluminous muzzle.

It may well be useful as an uplifting gift for friends!

I found the idea of this elephant on the Internet – I saw it at Nadya Koloteva’s and immediately fell in love with him.

The pattern below, as well as the tightening, tinting and painting of the toy are mine.

    Well, what about the cause?

    For work we need:

    – dense white coarse calico,

    – filler (holofiber, synthetic winterizer, synthetic winterizer)

    – threads, scissors, needles (simple and long, so-called dolls)

    – Disappearing fabric marker and / or plain hard pencil,

    – instant coffee (the cheapest), ground cinnamon, PVA glue and crystalline vanillin for coffee tinting,

    – acrylic paints, incl.h. brown and gold,

    – marker pens or helium writing pens,

    – oil pastels (brown and black),

    – synthetic flat brushes: wide (No. 14 or No. 16) for tinting, narrow (No. 2 and No. 4) for painting, bristle for facing seams,

    – pink dry pastel for blush,

    – paper towels or white napkins to remove moisture when tinting.

In addition: liquid pearl gel (golden), a piece of wool for felting or a bundle of yarn for knitting (for a forelock), a ribbon for hanging.

We print the pattern in A4 format:

    Part 1.

We cut, sew, fill, apply a preliminary drawing.

We print the pattern on A4 sheet. The size of the paper pattern is approximately 19cm:

Fold the coarse calico in half, pin it off with pins so that the layers of fabric do not move relative to each other during sewing, and outline the pattern with a disappearing marker. At the bottom, where the legs are, do not sew up, and do not forget to leave an allowance for the hem (dotted line).

Sew along the contour, leaving only the filling hole open. We choose a small line step – 0.5 mm.

Cut out the stitched part, departing from the seam by about 3-4 mm.

If there are no “zigzag” scissors, then we cut out with ordinary scissors and additionally cut the part in all convex and concave places, not reaching the seam by about 2-3 threads with the scissors.

Turning out, straightening and ironing the part with an iron,

Tuck and mark the seam allowance (in the filling hole).

We mark the legs and ears of the elephant on one side of the part.

Those who are not sure of their drawing abilities can use the following method of transferring a drawing to an elephant carcass. To do this, we cut the paper pattern along the lines we need, as shown in the photo:

Then we apply the trimmed pattern to the carcass and trace along the cut lines:

    Stitch along the marked lines:

We stuff the toy, filling it tightly with filler (I have holofiber).

Advice: If you slightly moisten the toy with a spray bottle before stuffing (or just run it along the seams and fabric with a wet hand), the stuffing will be denser, the stuffed toy will look less “cellulite”, and the seams will not wrinkle!

I repeat: stuff the toy very tightly! It is not easy, but a well-stuffed toy is better toned, it is more convenient to drag and paint it, and in general it turns out beautiful, and it is pleasantly heavy in the hand.

Stuffed? Now, carefully begin to sew the hole with a blind stitch or an over-the-edge stitch (I sewed the last one).

Having sewn half of one leg, fix the thread so that the seam does not diverge …

… add some filler to make the leg plump.

After that we will sew this leg, and move on to the second. Sew it up to half, fix it again, finish it off with filler …

… and sew on the second leg to the end.Let’s remove the outline.

It turns out this is a semi-finished product:

If you wish, you can moisten it a little again, and then “flatten” the carcass with your hands so that the elephant becomes flatter (this is in the case of further hanging on the wall).

In order to transfer the drawing of the muzzle to the carcass, we will again use the elements from our paper pattern. Cut out the muzzle, pin it to the carcass, combine the top line of the pattern with the seam on the head:

    Draw lightly with a pencil.

If necessary, other elements can be cut out of the pattern: eyes, a plate. And circle on the carcass:

Well, so we drew the main elements of the elephant:

In principle, the toy can already be tinted with coffee solution and painted at your pleasure.

But I propose to make volumetric tightening on the toy. Do you agree? If YES, let’s go …

    Part 2, difficult:

Actually, usually the tightening is done with a thread in the color of the fabric, but I intend to make the tightening with a darker thread so that the process can be seen better.

For tightening you need to take a long needle and a long, very strong thread. Strong – because when tightening, the thread will be in tension all the time, and a simple cotton thread may simply not withstand the load and break. I use thread 45LL (flax-lavsan).

It is more accurate to make the straps in one thread.

The scheme for tightening the elephant looks like this:

The numbering of points on the diagram is conditional, only for clarity of the process description! The number of tightening points in each individual case is arbitrary.

And now what it looks like in the process.

We make a couple of small stitches on the top of the head to fix it (vol. 1).

We insert the needle into the crown and withdraw it at the upper point of the tightening, for example, on the right, incl.2.

    Fixing again (making a knot):

We make a small stitch along the line of the muzzle, insert the needle into point 3 and withdraw it at the top point of the tightening on the opposite side (point 4).

Important: In order for the tightening to turn out to be voluminous, you need to grab more holofiber (packing) with a needle when moving from one side of the part to the other, as if “digging” the filler (see the figures on the diagram of the elephant ties).

So, we brought the needle out from the left side in bar 4. In this case, the thread should be slightly tightened.

Next, keeping the thread in tension, from point 4 we again make a small stitch on top of the fabric in point 5, again “dive” deep into the padding, returning to the right side of the muzzle, in point 3.

Important: You must certainly return to the point that was the last puncture on this side, otherwise the tightening will be sloppy! The tightening thread should be under slight tension at all times!

Sew a stitch over the fabric again (from vol.3 in volume 6), “dive” into the padding, “emerge” on the opposite side strictly in point 5:

When making a new stitch, be careful not to loosen the previous stitch.

In the same way, we make several passes from one side of the muzzle to the other. Please note that the tightening line runs along the contour of the cheeks without touching the mouth.

And one more thing: on the right, the contour of the muzzle is longer than on the left, therefore, having sewn the tightening around the mouth (see.in the photo below points 15, 16, 17 …), we make a couple of stitches, bringing the needle to the crown (v. 1):

And again we go to the tightening between the cheeks, and then we smoothly move to the trunk.

Correction! We do not need a wavy line of the trunk for tightening the trunk, we will make the folds with additional ties. Therefore, we will draw a straight line to the left of the trunk (I have a purple marker), along which we will make a tightening.

The wavy line is for the case of the usual painting of the Elephant, without drawbacks.

We continue to tighten the trunk. Look how voluminous we get it!

Finally, we got to the “fork” at the end of the trunk. In this place, we will make a tightening only on one part. It can be either the upper half of the nose or the lower one.

Here is such a handsome man:

Now we will pull down the tablet for the elephant.

I repeat: the needle for tightening should be taken long , so that it is convenient to pass rather long distances inside the toy. It can be such needles as shown in the photo below, special needles for sewing toys .

The plate tightening is similar to the muzzle tightening:

fasten with two stitches on the top of the elephant and then follow the photo instructions:

Did it work? Fine! It remains for us to pull the trunk.

To do this, fold the long thread in half, insert it into the needle so that the end with the loop is longer:

We start tightening. We introduce the needle to the left, just below the junction of the cheeks into the trunk. We output a little above the tightening line (see photo below)

The loop on the long end of the thread must remain outside. Let’s stretch our needle into it …

… thus pulling the trunk outside.

Make a small stitch and go down to the left side of the trunk.

Pull up the thread to give the trunk a bulge, and, throwing the thread over the trunk, sew the following stitch:

And so on several times. Do not forget to pull up the thread so that the trunk turns out to be embossed.

We fasten the thread, hide the end inside the toy, and admire the result.

Next comes the fragrant stage of tinting the elephant.

    Part 3 , tasty.

My favorite part of creating a toy. Probably because I love the invigorating scent of freshly brewed coffee and the indescribable aroma of a cinnamon roll!

Boil water in a kettle. Put 1 tablespoon of coffee, 1/3 teaspoon of cinnamon in a cup, and add about 50 ml of boiling water.

Note: who does not like the smell of cinnamon may not use it.

Stir the contents of the cup well and let cool slightly.

Meanwhile, put 1 tablespoon of PVA glue in a small jar. It is better to use a construction one, because it is thicker.

Pour a teaspoon of warm coffee-cinnamon mixture into PVA and stir thoroughly until smooth.

Add a new portion of the coffee solution only after thoroughly mixing the previous spoon!

The resulting composition should be uniform in consistency.

Paint the elephant with a flat synthetic brush (# 14 or # 16) on both sides.

It is always better to start from the back side, especially if there is no experience in tinting.

We collect the tinting solution on the brush, squeeze it a little on the edge of the can so that it does not drip or drip from the brush, and paint the toy without leaving any gaps. We try to dye only the fabric. If the packing gets wet, there will be stains and streaks in these places.

Therefore, in order for the toy to be colored evenly, we use paper towels or white napkins: from time to time you need to blot and rub the carcass with them, removing excess moisture.

In addition, in order to achieve a beautiful, even tinting, you should not be distracted during the work, you need to paint quickly, but carefully.

But the ears of the elephant must be well painted on both sides, so that the PVA, which is in the tint, gives the ears the necessary rigidity, then the ears can be nicely formed, and they will not “sag with rags.

After finishing painting, blot the toy again with a towel.

This is how the tinted elephant carcass looks like:

Pour some cinnamon and vanillin on a plate or saucer (not to be confused with vanilla sugar!)

First rub the wet carcass with vanilla, and then rub a little dry cinnamon into the seams.

Using a needle and thread, make a temporary loop for hanging the toy in the oven:

Do not forget to form folds on the ears:

And we send the carcass to the solarium, i.e. in the oven for baking.

Alternatively, you can place the toy on a baking sheet, on a sheet of white paper (or on a sheet of baking paper). In this case, the toy must be turned over from time to time so that it dries evenly. It is better to bake in convection (blowing) mode at a temperature of about 80, but not more than 100 degrees, about 10-15 minutes, or rather until completely dry.

If the oven does not have a blower function, then you need to bake the toy by opening the oven door, by all means turning the toy over all the time.

The toy, in principle, can not even be baked, but simply dried in the air, with a hairdryer or not far from the battery, but I like the baked version more.

After the toy is baked, remove it from the oven and cool. Can you smell the aroma in the kitchen? Mmmm …

PVA glue on the baked toy forms a rough crust, and the toy itself is very reminiscent of a freshly baked bun, with a crispy crust and soft inside …

However, some craftswomen do not like such a hard “crust”, for example, it is more difficult to paint a toy on it …

To remove the “crust” the toy should be sanded with a very fine sandpaper. I am using sandpaper No. 2000:

Sanding with light circular motions. At the same time, the sanded surface becomes smooth, as if suede to the touch.

The advantage of sanding is the elimination of minor defects in toning, the disadvantage is the crawled hairs of the filling:

It is enough to roll them with dry hands,

and especially naughty ones just cut off with scissors at the very surface of the toy:

The carcass is ready for painting.

    Part 4.

    Artistic and decorative.

With a pencil we aim our eyes, if desired, we apply drawings of flowers, hearts on the carcass, on the back – the inscription: “Have you bought an elephant?”

Let’s make our toy even more colorful and visual volume?

For this we need a brown and gold acrylic paint, a bristle brush and a sheet of white office paper.

We work first with brown paint. Putting some paint on the brush

Transfer to paper and begin to whip the brush against the paper until the brush begins to leave light traces, such as specks (circled in red in the photo).

With such a practically dry brush, we will begin to trim the seams of the toy:

We go through all the seams, including the legs and ears of our elephant:

We do not touch the muzzle, we will tint it separately.

This is what you should end up with:

Now we take the acrylic paint “Gold” and repeat the same actions as with the brown one: we beat it to speckles and end it over the brown paint.

Gold paint slightly reduces the saturation of brown, and gives some “blush” to the toy.

As a result, we get the following carcass:

To draw volumes on the face, take a thinner brush.I have it flat synthetic No. 4. We put a little brown paint on the tip of the brush, wipe it until it leaves a slightly noticeable mark on the paper (see photo):

And with such a practically dry brush we shade the muzzle and trunk along all the weights:

The darkest place of toning should be at the seam; to the sides of the seam, the toning saturation should decrease.

Now with an even thinner brush, no. 2, according to the same principle,

draw shadows around the eye, a fold under the right eye, and a shadow near the mouth:

Do not forget to circle around the sign:

As a result, we get this still not very expressive bishop:

Paint a pedicure with brown paint:

Supplement: with the same dry brush No. 2 you can circle around the flowers and hearts on the body of an elephant:

By the way, thin lines on the face and body of the elephant can be applied in another way, namely with oil pastels using a stiff synthetic brush with a cut bristle. With three hard cut brush on chalk oil pastels and outline our drawing:

I use both methods, and most often both: I apply oil pastels on the stroke with paint, softening the acrylic drawing, like this:

With white acrylic paint we paint the whites of the eyes and the plate:

Advice: Apply the paint in a thin layer, without streaks or lumps. Excess paint should be removed from the surface with a brush so that it does not dry out with bumps.

Better to make 2-3 thin and even coats of paint than one, but ugly!

After all, the quality of a toy is in the details, and sloppy painting or carelessly done tinting will definitely worsen the look of the craft.

With an almost dry brush (with residues of white paint), we apply bulges on the trunk and muzzle of the elephant:

With a knife, cut a little dry pink pastel chalk:

Apply a blush to both cheeks, and lightly walk over the face, highlighting it slightly with color:

Let’s paint the flowers and hearts on the body of the elephant as our imagination tells us.

Now take a black oil pastel crayon, lightly brush over it (without much pressure, so that when drawing the brush leaves only a very light gray trail, as in the photo below)

Apply shadow to the whites of the eyes, adding volume to the eyes. We will also draw shadows around the edges of the plate …

and in the corner of the mouth:

With a thin black helium pen we outline the eyes, eyebrows and folds near the eyes, draw the trunk:

With felt-tip pens we will write on the plate and on the back:

For the ponytail, take threads of suitable colors,

We fold several times, thread it into a needle with a large eye and attach them to the place from which elephants’ tails grow…

In principle, instead of sewing threads, you can take yarn for knitting, or a thin cord – anything that can imitate the tail of an elephant.

And meanwhile I have braided a pigtail, symbolizing the tail …

I moistened my finger with PVA glue, coated the tail (for rigidity), and gave it a coquettishly curved shape.

Middle of the flowers made with gel for pearls

And left until the gel was completely dry.

Here is the view from the back turned out:

It remains to attach a loop to the toy, and you can also make a perky forelock for the elephant.

For the eyelet, cut the required length of the ribbon or ribbon (I have a 3 mm wide ribbon)

We connect it into a ring and attach it with a few stitches to the crown of the head:

For the forelock, cut a small piece of yarn for felting

And sew it in the middle with a few stitches:

This is how it should turn out:

Sew the forelock to the top of the head, covering the place where the loop is sewn:

Let’s straighten (or ruffle) the forelock so that the constriction and threads from sewing are not visible.

This is what the elephant turned out to be as a result of our labors:

    By the way …

Different inscriptions can be made on elephants, for example:

And, of course, they can be of different sizes …

The main thing is that they bring everyone a good mood!

I wish you all creative inspiration and an endless flight of imagination !!!

Important! Coffee toys are indoor toys, they are NOT intended for play and are therefore NOT RECOMMENDED for small children.

In addition, the “coffee” is afraid of moisture: splashes on them leave stains!

Sofa upholstery fabric | LLC “Furniture fabrics” in Nizhny Novgorod

The best sofa always starts with the quality of its upholstery. It is this fabric that determines how the furniture will look, how comfortable and pleasant it will be to sit on it.It is extremely difficult and difficult to choose the most suitable upholstery, since nowadays you can find a large number of different types of fabrics, which is why the eyes are often simply scattered to the sides. This only makes the choice more difficult. It is best to invite a professional designer who will appreciate the interior of the room in which the sofa is located and recommend the most suitable fabric for the sofa .

    Helpful advice

It is worth paying attention to the fact that the colors of the materials that are presented in our catalogs may differ slightly from the real ones, since the photograph may not always perfectly convey the exact color. When choosing an upholstery fabric for yourself, first of all, pay attention to its texture, as well as the production method. The most expensive materials are jacquard and tapestry.

Tapestry is a very durable material with a long service life, which is a system of very intricately interwoven threads. Together they form a unique and eye-catching pattern. The peculiarity of such weaving and the high density of threads make it possible to accurately transfer the volumes of images on the material.

Jacquard is a premium fabric. Its main difference from tapestry is that fewer different shades and colors must be used for production. Thanks to the unique style of weaving, the embossed image appears very clearly on the thread. Both fabrics are distinguished by their increased strength, long service life, as well as their ability to perfectly retain their shape and color for many years.

Sofa upholstery also includes fabrics such as matting. This is a budget option for upholstery fabrics. In its texture, it is similar to burlap, but it has a finer weave. The material is very pleasant and soft to the touch, and due to its durability and low cost, this type of upholstery is very popular with many people.

And again about the tarpaulin. Laboratory tests.

At one time, when bright nylon fabrics just began to appear, we without regret pushed the worn, faded, fire-smelling storms into the far corners of the closet, but time passed …

    Photo: Vyacheslav Tokmakov

Fabrics became more and more technological, things made of them more modern and functional, tarpaulin went further and further into the area of our memories. However, every time I go into the forest, I take my old wind jacket out of the closet. Do you think this is nostalgia? ..

Today I want to tell our curious and distrustful readers how we got the comparative data given in Marinina’s article. At the same time, you can look into our testing laboratory, so far only through a crack.

So! What interests us most about storm clothing?

Its strength, vapor permeability, ability to protect us from wind and precipitation, and for tarpaulins, since old windbreaks faded very quickly, also color fastness.

We will not talk about the depth of the stain now, since it is incorporated in the staining technique. The tarpaulin that Alloy uses uses Vat Dyeing: “No white CRACKS when washing! The fabric has high lightfastness, does not fade over time. Has 4.5-5 points of fadedness. ” Marina Galkina.

    Photo: Mikhail Birulin.

Breathability is the strong point of any tarpaulin, so we will test our tarpaulin for only three main indicators:

    • Tensile strength
    • Water resistance
    • Water repellency

For comparison, we take two types of tarpaulin:

    • Old tarpaulin model 1980 / production
    • Tarpaulin used by Alloy for the production of suits Mountain and storm suits …

The old one is made according to the recipes of the ancient and Soviet GOSTs, the new one is tarpaulin revived from the ashes, made in accordance with the requirements of the Alloy Company.

Small digression: Unlike the tarpaulin, which is currently produced in Russia, as well as in Europe and America (with the exception of England), as the basis of the canvas in this tarpaulin, twisted yarn in two folds is used, as required by GOST- s USSR. Currently, besides us, such tarpaulins (of higher quality, but expensive) are made only by England.

What is tear strength and how to find it?

It’s no secret that tarpaulin is preferred by serious people who, at the first opportunity, try to escape from civilization and run away.Difficult transitions, heavy backpacks, forest, rocks, belay ropes – all this places high demands on the strength of storm clothing.

    Y. Alexandrov, E. Antropov.

Tensile strength of fabric (mechanical strength) – the ability to withstand stress, is one of the main indicators characterizing its quality.

Thus, we define the minimum load sufficient to break a strip of fabric of a certain size, that is, the breaking load.

Breaking load — the greatest force maintained by the test strips when they are stretched to rupture, is determined when the strips of fabric are broken on a tensile machine.

One of the first explosive machines was described by Joseph Rudyard Kipling in the fairy tale “Where does the baby elephant have a long trunk?” that this self-propelled warship with armor on the upper deck (in these words, my beloved, he meant a crocodile) will interfere with your further movements. All two-colored rock pythons always speak in such confusing expressions. ” In this case, by the way, it was possible to measure the elongation of the baby elephant’s nose.

Following the same principle, we fix the tissue sample in the clamps of the tensile testing machine, stretch it until it breaks, and at the moment of rupture we fix the sample elongation, the amount of load acting on the sample and the time it takes for the sample to break.

    Modern tarpaulin

The breaking load of a specimen on the warp or weft is the arithmetic mean of the test results for all main or all weft strips.

Tarpaulin is a fabric with a plain weave of warp and weft threads, that is, with short overlaps of threads, which, in combination with thread thickness and density, determines its strength.

Simultaneously with the strength of the fabric on a tensile testing machine, its elongation is determined – the increase in the length of the sample at the time of rupture (elongation at break) in millimeters.

The lower the amount of elongation, the less the material deforms under the influence of an increasing load.

    Old 932 N (95 kgf) extension 26 mm

    Modern 1057 N (108 kgf) extension 16 mm

We see that the strength of the Splavovsky tarpaulin is not only not inferior, but also surpasses the strength of its “big brother”.

The tarp gets wet, but how quickly does it happen?

Recall that water resistance is called “the ability of a tissue to resist the penetration of water through it. This property is of great importance for special-purpose fabrics such as tarpaulin, canvas, tent fabrics … “.Source : “Technology of fabric production”
HP Smirnov, Yu.I. Maslennikov, V.Yu. Yavorsky

    Photo: romrysakow.narod.ru

A penetrometer is used to determine the water permeability. The water resistance values are taken as the minimum water pressure on the test sample, which causes the third drop of liquid to appear on the opposite surface of the sample.

    Old tarpaulin.

Having thus tested samples of tarpaulin from the 80s and modern tarpaulin, we obtained

    water resistance:

    Old 500 mm H2O

    Modern 500 mm H2O

Water resistance equal to – 500 mm water column corresponds to medium-light rain during the day or medium-heavy rain for half an hour (enough to hide in a shelter).

For a tarpaulin, this is an excellent figure , given that in the now traditional single-thread on the warp and weft canvas, the water resistance is 50 mm h3O, and in the only tarpaulin in Russia, where there are two threads on the basis – 300 mm of water column.

    Tarpaulin water-repellent properties.

Water repellency ( hydrophobicity) is the ability of a material to repel water.

To increase water resistance, the tarpaulin is also impregnated with water-repellent impregnation.“The impregnation adds another 50 millimeters of water resistance to the tarpaulin and makes it water repellent (not to be confused with water resistance !!!).

The quality of the impregnation determines the number of washings to which a tarpaulin product can be subjected before it loses its property of to repel water. At the same time water resistance of tarpaulin will change only by 50 mm: it was 500 – it will become 450 – NOT SIGNIFICANT! “M. Galkina

No sophisticated instruments are required to assess the water-repellent properties of a fabric.

A 22 × 22 cm piece of tarpaulin is taken, clamped tightly between two rings and fixed face up on the instrument support. The angle of inclination of the sample surface to the direction of splashing water is 45 °. The distance from the spray arm to the center of the sample is (18 ± 1) cm. The sample is exposed to splashing water for 25-30 s. During this time, 250 cm of water should flow out of the sprinkler funnel. Then the sample is removed from the instrument support and shaken face down, striking a solid body to remove adhering water droplets from the surface.
The results are estimated in arbitrary units, depending on the state of the wetted surface, in accordance with the table:

    Sample status

    Assessment, conventional units

No drops of water remain on the surface of the sample

Individual small drops adhered to the surface of the sample

The sample is easily wetted, but the wetted surface is less than 1/3 of the total sample

Sample wetting exceeds 1/3 of the surface, but does not cover the entire surface

The entire front side of the sample is wet, but there are no wet spots on the seamy side

The entire front side of the sample gets wet, and only small wet spots appear on the seamy side

Both sides of the sample get wet

    Old tarpaulin.

    Modern tarpaulin

As a result of tests, we got:

    Old – 100 USD

    Modern – $ 100

Let’s turn to Marina Galkina’s article again:

“The tarpaulin does not lose its water resistance! Sometimes it takes 30 years – and all the same water resistance. As on this storm jacket with the emblem from 1988.

The modern water-repellent (VO) finish of the tarpaulin is produced by ALLOY with organofluorine “…” If in the manufacture of this impregnation ordinary carbon C6 is used, then such a tarpaulin can withstand with a decrease in VO from 100 units.up to 80 units for 20 washes. This is exactly what our SPLAV tarpaulin is.

In conclusion, I would like to say that the tarpaulin has lived a long life and, not exhausted, but, on the contrary, firmly entrenched in its well-trodden niche. Perfectly breathable, durable, not afraid of hot fires and insects, it has an army of friends and fans.

And we are glad that we can offer you clothes made of real high quality tarpaulin.

Article: “About the tarpaulin” by Marina Galkina

Bedtime story about an elephant.Lullaby about an elephant

Once upon a time there was an elephant, very large, completely ugly, but very kind. His name was Loni, and one day he went for a walk.

Walked, walked and came to a blazing fire. A white duck was warming itself near the fire, and there was a pond nearby, the Utochkin pond. And the high flame of the fire was reflected in it as in a mirror.
Loni stopped to admire the fire, its reflection in the water, and the white duck.

But then a cloud came up and it began to rain. The bonfire got scared.
    – If the rain disperses, I am lost! he sobbed.
“Oh, don’t cry,” said the white duck, “or you’ll flood yourself with tears.
    The duck’s name was Miranda.
    – I’ll try, – said the fire.

Cheer up, buddy! – said Loni and blew on the fire. The fire a little flared up and cheered up.
But the rain poured down more and more, and then Loni asked the white duck to fly to the cloud as soon as possible and tell her that if she does not stop pouring rain, he, Loni, will blow so, so that he will disperse the whole cloud, and there is not a cloud from her will not remain.

Miranda flew to the cloud and told her everything, as Loni ordered.
“Oh, I’m sorry, please,” the cloud said. – But the fact is that when I saw you, I thought: “Ducks love to splash in the water more than anything else in the world,” and I poured rain on you.

    I won’t be anymore!
    – Thank you! – said Miranda and flew back. And the cloud flew in the other direction.
Sparing no effort, Loni blew and blew on the fire, and the fire flared up brighter than before. He was very pleased, but now Miranda was sad.

What’s the matter with you? Loni asked her.
    “I … I … I … love rain so much,” Miranda admitted. – All ducks love.
“Well, this grief is not hard to help,” Loni said. He lowered his trunk into the pond, took in more water and poured a real downpour on the duck.

Miranda flapped her wings and cackled with pleasure.
    – Real rain! Even better than rain! – she rejoiced.
Loni lowered his trunk into the pond again, took more water and poured rain on the white duck again. And then he took in more air and blew on the fire.

But now the time has come for him to return home. Loni said goodbye and went. Miranda looked after him for a long time, and it seemed to her that he was getting smaller and smaller.

Finally Loni completely disappeared from sight. Then Miranda threw twigs into the fire, hid her head under her wing and fell asleep.

She dreamed about Loni, so big, not very handsome, but very kind. the tiger asked.
“This tale is over,” said the writer.
    – Can I go to bed now?
    – If you want, of course.
    – Can I sleep the whole page?
    – Even two if you want.
    – No, I will sleep in the corner on the next page, where there is an empty space, and then I wake up and you will tell me a new story.

And the tiger curled up in a ball in the very bottom corner of the page, where there were no drawings or letters, but he could not sleep.
    – I already have one eye open, see? – he said.
“No, I don’t see something,” the writer said.
    – Opened! So tell me another story.
    – Who is it about?
    – About the tiger!
    – Again about the tiger? It’s boring.
    – Well, then about the cat. A cat is almost a tiger. Little tiger. Tell me about Dick Whitington’s cat. As Dick climbed Highgate Hill, looked back at London and said, “One day I will be the Lord Mayor of London.”
    – Why, this is a folk tale. An English folk tale, and you know it very well. No, I’d rather tell you about the Highgate Hill girl.

    Let’s talk!
    – Please?
    – Yes, tell me, please! (See the sequel to Donald Bisset’s tale ”

Once upon a time there was a little elephant calf named Buddy in India.

As befits all elephants, he was smart, intelligent, funny, friendly and cheerful. And how Buddy loved to tuck bananas, seeds, leaves and bark of trees, nuts and fruits by both cheeks! And the baby elephant loved to swim. Moreover, it was very hot.

Buddy’s big ears also helped to escape her.
One day, a little elephant decided to take a walk.
    – Just don’t stray far from our flock! – sternly warned the mother – the elephant. – All around is full of danger!
    – Good! Buddy replied as he walked merrily down the road.
But the baby elephant had hardly passed half the way, when suddenly he caught a barely audible sound. At first he didn’t even know where it was coming from. Turning his ears – locators and looking around, he realized that there was someone under the fallen old tree. Buddy cautiously descended and suddenly saw a girl who was crying bitterly.
    – What happened? – asked the elephant, trying not to scare the child.
From surprise the little girl froze and even stopped crying.
    – Are you an elephant and can you talk? She exclaimed in surprise.
    – You’re weird! I not only talk, I can draw, dance and swim! – answered the elephant proudly. – What is your name and what happened to you?
    – My name is Ketaka. I wanted to pick up beautiful leaves from this fallen tree, because I can’t get it from the tall ones.I’m still small. Yes, she just stumbled and twisted her leg. How can I get to the house now? – said the girl and was about to cry again.
    – And here I am, too, still small, but I can tear off that beautiful leaf from a high branch for you – said Buddy and reached out with his trunk, like a hand, to the neighboring tree.
The girl looked at this spectacle, as in a circus. And when the baby elephant nevertheless reached the leaf, she began to clap her hands loudly and shout: “Oh, how great! What a fine fellow you are! ”
    – Well, hold your sheet and let’s think about how to get you home.I’ll bring my mom and she will tell us. And you stay here, don’t go anywhere, ”said Buddy.
    – What are you kidding me? Where will I go with a sore leg? – almost indignant stranger.
The baby elephant laughed and answered:
    – Yes, I just wanted to cheer you up, silly!
And Buddy walked quickly towards the house. He told his mother everything and together they went to rescue the poor fellow.
-And here we are! Have you been swinging on the swing for a long time? – asked the elephant.
    – For a long time. And what does the swing have to do with it? – the girl was perplexed.
    – Well, now you will have such an opportunity! Buddy laughed.
Then the elephant grabbed the girl, sat her down in the trunk and carried her away, shaking her slightly.

Having delivered the cargo to its destination, the girl’s parents thanked the elephants for their help and kindness.
Since then, Buddy and Ketaka have become friends and have always played close to a herd of elephants. Buddy poured water from the trunk of the girl, and she laughed merrily. She became a common favorite. After all, elephants love people and are friends with them, showing only positive qualities.Ketaka also began to treat Buddy with cookies and sweets, which made the elephant’s cheeks grow bigger and bigger.

In one country – Africa, there was a huge Gray Elephant, he is as big as a truck. Once he was walking about his business through the jungle and heard the cry of a child. The elephant decided to check what was the matter, pushed the bushes apart with its huge trunk and saw a small unusual elephant calf, he was pink in color, and two times smaller than the gray elephants. The big elephant decided that something was wrong here, since the little ones were crying in the middle of the jungle, and asked the baby what had happened, and the baby elephant began to tell in a plaintive little voice what had happened:

    – I was just born, I saw my mother only once and then with one eye, then the mother kissed me and put me to sleep in the cradle, and I woke up in the middle of the jungle myself. I’m scared, I’m hungry and thirsty, and where is Mom?

    – Now let’s go to my city of elephants, we’ll talk to the elders there, maybe they know something, or have ever seen such unusual elephants like you – answered the Gray Elephant.

When they reached the city of elephants, they were already met by the elders – the wisest and oldest elephants, because in the jungle news spreads much faster than elephants walk. The elders carefully studied the baby, they examined it for a long time, then measured it, then touched, smelled and even licked it. Their verdict was as follows:

    – Of course, this is an elephant, but the breed is clearly not ours, we have never seen such elephants before. We will help the kid, because he is our relative, albeit a distant one, since you have found him, it is up to you to bring the matter to the end.Go, Gray Elephant, to look for the baby’s parents.

Again, the two of them wandered through the jungle in search of their parents. And then the Gray Elephant got an idea, what if it was people who brought such unusual elephants here? He decided to go to town. On the approach to the city, loud music, hubbub and laughter of people were heard, as if somewhere there was a holiday. Coming closer, the elephants saw an unusual structure – it was a circus tent, around it there were smaller tents for animals and an acting troupe. It was noisy everywhere – a brass band was playing, balloons were flying, bright flags were full of bright colors, and a crowd of clowns was wandering around, entertaining the viewer. From all this commotion, the elephant was confused and did not know what to do, but then a sad poodle came out of the small tent, saw the elephant and said:

    – Such a big elephant! We also have elephants, but they are smaller and pink in color.Today they had a problem: when the car was driving their family through the jungle, their newborn baby fell out of the car, the worker turned out to be loosely closing the car door, it opened from the shaking and the baby elephant rolled out. The elephants banged their trunks against the wall and trumpeted, but when the driver heard them and stopped the car, it was too late, they drove far away and lost sight of the baby. How many elephant calves have not looked for and have not been able to – but what can you find in the jungle?

    A Gray elephant and answers:

    – I’ve found your baby elephant, and you baby elephant, it looks like I found parents.

They went to the tent to the elephants, the parents were happy when they saw their loss, they hugged and kissed him and cried for joy.

The Tale of the Baby Elephant

The baby elephant yawned and stretched in its bed, and then quickly jumped up and stomped on the floor with its huge paws. A new day has begun, which is sure to bring him something interesting. How can you sleep? He pushed his long trunk into his parents’ bedroom. Mom and Dad, intertwined their noses and slept soundly, so that the curtains bounced from their snoring in the room. The elephant cheerfully swayed its lop-eared ears, like a fan. He chased away the dream that was still in the air.

    – How can you sleep on a day like this? He asked loudly, not particularly addressing anyone.

    – What day is it today? – Dad asked, jumping up on the bed and thinking that he had overslept for work again.

    – Such. Special. Day off, – the elephant trumpeted proudly.

    – Oh! – Dad fell back on the pillows, or rather on his mother’s paw, which was softer for him than a pillow, – Why so scare? Sleep, come on, ”he said to his son.

    – Sleep? You can also sleep all your life.No. I do not want. Was this why I was born? To sleep all the time? – the elephant winked slyly at the parents.

Before they had time to say anything, he disappeared, only they saw his tail with a brush.

    – I have other plans. Completely different plans! – trumpeted the elephant so loudly that mom and dad were shaking with the bed. Or maybe it was because they knew perfectly well when their son had plans – it is always better to be on the alert.

    – Let’s get up? – Daddy muttered sleepily.

    – Let’s get up, – Mom answered and rolled head over heels out of bed, sat on her hind legs and looked around in search of slippers. They were lying in different parts of the room, after the arrival of the elephant, they always scattered, as if they wanted to hide.

Sucking in air like a vacuum cleaner, first pulled one slipper, then the second and pulled them on to her feet.

Dad was snoring with full trunk, reassured by the fact that there was someone to look after the elephant. In addition, if he sleeps for another couple of hours, he will wake up in time for a warm carrot pie.It was his favorite way to start the morning – with a cup of chocolate drink and a delicious pie.

Meanwhile, the baby elephant has already begun to implement its ideas. Grabbing the edge of the blanket with his trunk, he pulled from one end, and his older sister from the other, and this continued until someone wins. This Elephant called a game of puffing.

    – Mom, he does not let me sleep, – complained the sister and abruptly let go of the edge of the blanket. The baby elephant flopped onto its little tail, fell onto its back, and was buried under a patchwork quilt.

    – Elephant, why don’t you let Sonya sleep? Mom asked.

One ear and one small sly eye protruded from under the fabric.

    – She wanted to go for a run.

“And I didn’t want anything,” said Sonya, lifting the blanket, wrapping herself up in it like a butterfly in a cocoon.

    – I wanted, wanted, – the elephant ran next to her mother and was looking for a way to get past her impressive figure, – I myself heard how you told your friend that you want to lose weight and from tomorrow you start to train.

The elephant darted between my mother’s legs. Having guessed his tactics, my mother squeezed her knees, and now her son’s head dangled next to his sister’s face, and his tail and legs stuck out in the area of his mother’s trunk. Not a very good position, given that my mother’s trunk served as an excellent beater for carpets. And the Elephant did not want to be in the place of the rug at all.

    – Why do you need to lose weight? – asked my mother, – You are already beautiful.

    – Giraffe-like shapes are now in vogue. Slender legs, an elongated neck, you know? – the elephant girl sighed.

    – It is unlikely that you will be happy when you lose weight to the size of a giraffe, – said mom, – Why waste your energy to become someone else when you can build your own life and do something truly special?

    – An elephant cannot be a giraffe. Even I know that, – said the little brother, taking advantage of his mother’s confusion, he got out of captivity. He put on his sister’s flip flops on his hind legs, pulled in his cheeks and stomach and began to nurse with an important air around the room, imitating a giraffe.

“You don’t understand anything,” Sonya muttered and threw a pillow at her brother. The baby elephant swayed like a girl in unstable heels and collapsed to the floor.

    – This happens to all the thin ones – they fall to the ground from hunger, – the elephant began to make faces, – And it also blows them away with the wind, – The elephant jumped, waving his ears, and fell to the floor again.

    – You are not threatened to fly away.

    – Come on, – mom grabbed her son’s tail with her trunk and pulled, – until the ceiling of our neighbors collapsed from your theatrical talents.

“It’s great, there will be more spectators,” the elephant smiled slyly.

    – You will perform with a can of plaster and a trowel, I would have looked at that. – sarcastically said the sister after Elephant, who, jumping up and down cheerfully, followed his mother into the kitchen.

    – Baby elephant, – mother looked at him pleadingly, – tell me, can you usually walk?

“A strange question,” said the elephant. “Of course not. You yourself said that I am extraordinary with you.

    – Indeed. And how could I forget, – mom patted her son on the top of the head and

I went to the pantry. She brought flour, sugar, butter, put it all on the table, and she started washing the carrots and apples. She only left the baby elephant unattended for just a second, and when she returned, she could not believe her eyes. The whole kitchen has turned into a snowy kingdom. A bag of flour lavishly covered the floors, a baby elephant lay right in the middle and made a snow angel.

    – Really great? Winter in the middle of summer? Jump to me, – the son beckoned to his mother.

She froze with a carrot in her hand, as with a saber. There was a strange expression on her face: either jump, or launch a carrot.

    – Look, – the elephant laid an egg on his eyes, and made a smile from the butter. Now a strange angel with egg eyes was looking at my mother.

“I’m looking,” Mom grabbed the cabinet door with her trunk. So that the trunk does not accidentally, against her will, go to raise the baby elephant.

I really wanted to knead the baby elephant with the dough, which she did.To the laughter of her son, she broke eggs right on her stomach, added butter, sprinkled with sugar. She did not even have to add flour, there was a whole sea on her elephant’s body.

After decorating the dough with carrots and apples, mother put the cake in the oven, and she herself went to get water to wash the baby elephant.

The baby elephant, meanwhile, managed to paint on flour with his finger, leave footprints, lie on its back, on its head, on its side. He enjoyed the process and was ready for something new. The rubber ducks tub was just the thing.

The elephant sat down in a basin and began to wash. I must say that he was very independent and knew that he needed to wash from top to bottom. He lathered his ears and eyes. The soap stung them so hard that he immediately dived in and blew out a stream of air. Bubbles appeared on the surface, and a dozen colored balls, iridescent in the light, flew out of the trunk. Like any baby, the Elephant was fond of soap bubbles, and the process took all of his attention.

The reassured mother began to scrub the kitchen until flour spread throughout the rest of the rooms. And then she felt that water was approaching her from all sides. Filled in earnest. The storm from the bathtub has already migrated into the corridor.

    – Baby elephant!

The son diligently soaked daddy’s pants and sweater in foam, carried away by washing, the kid forgot to turn off the tap. Mom didn’t know whether she should tear the last bristles on her elephant skin, or blow the trumpet out of despair. Knowing that tears will not help grief, and crying will not solve anything, my mother turned off the tap and threw a fountain of spray into her son with her trunk.

    – Assistant, look what you’ve done. There is a flood in the house.

    – Oh, – the elephant squeaked, which now itself felt that its paws were floating somewhere on the slippery floor, – Sorry, I wanted the best.

    – What are we going to do? What are the options?

    – Wipe, – the elephant began to trumpet, calling for help.

Dad had to wake up, and even the giraffes’ neighbors called to ask if they needed reinforcements.

Tired after cleaning, wet, as if just after a shower, the elephants sat down to breakfast.

Finally, Sonya came to the table.

    – Oh, this Baby Elephant, – she waved at her brother with her trunk, – He’s got nothing but trouble.

The baby elephant’s ears sagged below the knees, and the pie did not go into his mouth, fell by. It’s good that my mother picked him up with the dexterity of a circus juggler.

“The one who does nothing makes no mistakes,” she said, stroking her son.

Here Sonya, gray in color, acquired a pink tint, she felt ashamed. After all, while the whole family worked, she pretended to be asleep, and instead of praising, she scolded.

    End of introductory fragment.
