Alice and LoisDIY Leather Envelope Clutch

In my quest to completely finish unpacking, I was sorting through my notebook collection (yes, collection). I found an old envelope style card stock journal and knew I wanted to make something from this technique. I had some leftover leather scraps from my friend Heather and I knew I had found my next no-sew project! I also have “borrowed” her leather for these projects; Leather Hair Clips and the No-Sew Rope Basket.

I made a few different sized leather envelope clutches using the envelope method. The larger size fits an iPhone 6. The smaller size is a perfect business card holder or jewelry case. Read more for the full tutorial. Wouldn’t these make the perfect gift for girlfriends?

Supplies: leather / Brass stud screw backs / printed cotton fabric / Fusible appliqué paper / sharp scissors / Leather hole punch / small template / large template

Step 1.

Print the template. For the 3.5 in x 5 in small clutch, trace the template on the backside of the leather. For the 4.5 in x 6 in large envelope clutch, print two copies of  template, cut and tape together. Note: cut the templates to the edge of paper.

Step 2. Cut the leather using leather shears or sharp scissors. Mark a spot on the corners where the hole punch will go. You want the holes to match up when folded together.

Step 3. Next, get the fabric ready for lining the inside of clutch. Using the template, trace the portion of the top of the envelope onto the wrong (back) side of fabric.

Step 4. Remove a side of the fusible appliqué paper and place on the back side of fabric and iron.

Step 5. Place the sticky side to the inside of the leather clutch and iron using low heat.

Step 6. Using the leather hole punch, punch a hole in each corner. Make sure to line the holes up by folding the corners into the middle. Start by folding in the right side, left side, bottom to top.

Step 7. Place the screw back on the backside of the right corner. Place the left corner on top. Next the bottom corner on top of screw back and finally the top corner.

Step 8. Screw the top (stud) of screw back on top. You are finished with your leather envelope clutch.

How to Make A Faux Leather Envelope Clutch

I love designer-inspired, simple, minimal design, and this clutch is just that. The addition of the tassel is optional, but I think it adds just the right amount of flair. The mix of materials provides visual and textural interest, and the touch of raw wood makes it perfectly on trend.

I also made a little coordinating friend to the clutch – a mini wallet or coin purse – that’s perfect for those little odds and ends.

Tools Needed To Make The Clutch:

I used tools from the new DIY Precision tool line from Fiskars®. To start, choose between using either the Fiskars® PowerCut™ Shears, which are an amazing choice to power through thicker materials like leather, or the Fiskars® Heavy-duty Comfort Loop Rotary Cutter (65mm).If you’re a true beginner, I recommend the shears, otherwise feel free to try out the rotary – either way you’ll end up with crisp, precise cut lines for your leather bag.To protect your work surface, especially if you’re using the rotary cutter, make sure you lay down the Fiskars® Cutting Mat – DIY (18″ x 24″). To make the most accurate measurements, use the Fiskars® Metal Ruler (18″). The last two tools you’ll need are the Fiskars® Precision Hammer and Fiskars® Lia Griffith Low-Temp Cordless Glue Gun for adhering your leather and clasp together.

Materials Needed to Make the Clutch:

You’ll also need to gather materials. The most important element is your base – select either leather or faux leather in the color of your choice. You’ll also need a leather punch, or depending on the thickness of your materials you could try using the Fiskars 1/8″ Circle Hand Punch, and snap kitto help adhere the leather to form your envelope shape, as well as wood beads (I used 1″), wood rings (I used 1/2″) and a wax cord.

How to Make a Faux Leather Envelope Clutch:

Step 1. Cut the leather. Use the shears or rotary cutter to cut your leather or faux leather to a 15″ square. I used the ruler to measure this out on the back side of my material and drew a light line to help me cut straight.

Step 2. Punch a hole. Fold three corners of the cut leather into the center of the material and punch a hole through all three corners. You may be able to punch all three together or, depending on how thick your material is, you may need to punch them separately. Just make sure they all line up and that each hole can meet together.

Step 3. Insert snap. Follow the directions on your snap kit to insert the male snap on the bottom of the clutch. It will fit snuggly into the holes you just made in step 2. Once inserted, use the hammer to secure.

Step 4. Glue seams.

I wanted this to be a super easy and fast no-sew clutch. For this step, use your glue gun to glue the bottom seams together, leaving the top flap open.You can also use adhesive fabric tape for this step if you don’t have a glue gun on hand.

Step 5. Punch a hole. Use the leather punch to make a hole in the top flap. Be sure to place it far enough above the corner so that the entire snap will fit. This hole will need to match up with the first snap you inserted in step 3.

Step 6. Insert snap. Repeat Step 3, but this time follow the instructions to add the female snap to the top flap.

Use the hammer again to secure the snap to the flap.

Step 7. Trim corners. Using the shears, trim the top two corners to smooth down the fabric when folded.

Step 8. Cut tassel material. Cut a 3″ x 4″ piece of leather for the tassel. You can use the same color to create a modern monochromatic look or try a complimentary color to add more vibrancy.

Step 9. Cut fringe for tassel.

Using the shears, cut strips about 1/4″ wide into the leather, stopping about 1/2″ from the top.

Step 10. String the bead. Loop a length of wax cord and string through the wood bead. Then, loop the wax cord around the wood ring.

Step 11. Assemble the tassel. Place the wax cord tail at the end of your cut fringe – be sure the bead is close to the tassel material. Glue together and roll the tassel. The wax cord will end up in the middle of the tassel to help hold its shape.

Step 12. Cut a tassel attachment. Cut a strip of leather to wrap around inside the wood ring and attach to the flap. Mine was about 1/4″ wide and about 3″ long.

Step 13. Cut a slit in the top flap. Gently fold the top flap in half, being careful to keep your material even. Make a small cut, unfold and cut more if necessary. This should fit the tassel attachment snuggly without puckering.

Step 14. Secure tassel. Add glue to the tassel attachment under the flap. This bag is perfect for a special occasion or can add a pop of color to a look for a night out.

How to Make a Faux Leather Wallet:

For this project, you’ll need the same materials and supplies we used for our envelope clutch.

Step 1. Cut the leather. Use the same PowerCut™ shears or 65mm rotary cutter to cut your leather or faux leather to a 6″ square.

Step 2. Punch a hole. Like we did in step 2 of our envelope clutch, fold three corners of your square into the center and punch a hole. Depending on how thick your material is, you may need to punch them separately, but make sure they all line up.Remember, you can try to use the Fiskars 1/8″ Circle Hand Punch for this step depending on the thickness of your material.

Step 3. Insert snap. Follow the directions on your snap kit to insert the male snap on the bottom of the wallet where you just punched your holes. Use the hammer to ensure the snap is secure.

Step 4. Glue seams.Use the glue gun or adhesive fabric tape to glue the bottom seams together.

Step 5. Punch a hole. Use a leather punch to make a hole in the top flap. Be sure to place it far enough above the corner so that the entire snap will fit and confirm it will meet up with the bottom snap already adhered to the wallet.

Step 6. Insert snap. Like in step 3, follow the instructions on your snap kit to add the female snap to the top flap.

Step 7. Trim corners. Using the shears, trim the corners to smooth down the fabric when folded.

Mr. Kate – DIY Leather Envelope Clutch

Mr. Kate Advent Calendar Day 11: DIY Gift in a Clutch!

This time of year, everyone’s thinking about packaging. Boxes, bows, ribbon, running to the Post Office before it closes to get express shipping … you know the drill! But all these parcels and presents got me thinking … wouldn’t it just be *clutch* to create a DIY that is both chic and giftable, and helps you carry all your things?

This DIY leather envelope is the perfect marriage of fashion and function. Its minimalist design means it will add an effortless touch to any outfit, while its sturdy construction holds up against all your worst hoarding habits. Want a bag that can carry you from the office to a night out dancing? Of course! Want a bag that can do all that and fit 2 boxes of Thin Mints for easy access? Look no further.

Double the fun: use that spare leather to add fringe to another purse! Check out the DIY Fringe Bag.

Prep It:

Big piece of leather (or pleather)
2 hitch fasteners
Waxed thread
X-Acto knife
Cutting mat
Thick needle
Leather hole punch
Glue
Scissors
Pen

Do It!:

  1. Pick any leather or faux leather that speaks to you! We chose a tanned raw one for a natural look. Measure a 22 x 12 inch rectangle, and draw the outlines in pen, so you can cut straight.
  2. Use an x-acto knife to cut out the rectangle. If you want the flap of the envelop to have a triangular or round shape, use the blade to create this shape on one of the ends.
  3. Fold your leather into thirds to create the envelope. Fold 8 inches of the end that won’t be the flap in over the middle of the leather, to create what will be the pouch. Then, fold the top 6 inches, in over this piece, creating the flap. You can choose to have a shorter or smaller flap, in which case you should cut your leather shorter. 16 inches length is necessary to create the pouch, then however many inches you’d like the flap to be added to that. You could even have the flap reach the bottom of the envelope! In that case, cut 24 inches length.
  4. Line up the 8 inch pieces exactly as you’d like them to be, and start punching holes 1/2 inch apart along the open sides, about 1/2 inch in. Stop where the pieces reach the flap! You don’t want any holes on that piece of the envelope.
  5. Make sure the holes on the sides line up, then fold it open and carefully glue the edges, making sure to stay on the edge and not to reach the holes. Fold back together, making sure the holes line up once more. Press lightly to encourage the glue to hold.
  6. Measure a long piece of wax thread, at least 16 inches long. Thread the needle and knot the two pieces together at the end. Push thread through one of the top holes on the envelope, then create a slip knot (tutorial here!)
  7. Create a chain stitch up the side of the envelope, by simply pushing the thread through the loop created into the next hole before pulling tight. If you’d like a different look, experiment with your stitching!
  8. When you reach the bottom, push the thread inside the envelope, and reach inside the pouch to pull it through. Push the needle back through the very first hole, then tie a few times. Cut the excess thread. Repeat this stitching process on the other side.
  9. For the studs, measure 2 dots on your top flap. They should be centered, mine were 1 inch up from the bottom of the flap and 3 inches in from the sides. Punch holes through the dots. Lay the flap over the pouch and mark a dot in the center of each hole onto the layer below. Then, use the x-acto knife to make small x-shaped incisions there for the fasteners to go through.
  10. Attach the fasteners to the pouch, per the instructions on the package you purchased, and now you should be able to fully close your envelope! You worked hard to create this little clutch, so rock it! Customize with paint, embroidery, rhinestones, or just leave plain. Whatever your creative soul chooses.

DIY No-Sew Faux Leather Envelope Clutch – Delightfully Kristi

Hello, friends!  Today I’m jumping in with a quick and simple project for you: a DIY no-sew envelope clutch!  This one is a ton of fun and makes a super cute gift or something versatile and practical for yourself.  Bonus: it’s easy to customize and tweak to suit your needs – scale it down for a cute cell phone case or size it up for your tablet or even a laptop!

Let’s jump right in!  Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1/2 yd. faux leather (I used a pretty lilac vinyl found at a local JoAnn Fabrics store)
  • 1/2 yd. fabric for the lining (any cotton or polyester will do)
  • Double sided fusible web / interfacing (something like Wonder Under or Heat n Bond)
  • Iron (any regular iron will do)
  • Scissors
  • E6000 or similar extra strong multi surface adhesive
  • Magnetic snap closure
  • Personalized label (optional, but makes it look real profesh!)
  • Pencil
  • Circular objects (like plates) to trace for creating the shape

I’ve made a fun infographic showing all of the steps to create the clutch, and hopefully you can get the gist; but, if you’re looking for more detailed instructions, check out the full tutorial I created on Cut Out n Keep – here!

Here’s a quick breakdown: trace plates of desired widths to create your envelope shape, cut it out of the vinyl / faux leather, trace the inside and top on your fusible web, cut that out, iron it to your lining fabric, cut that out, iron your lining inside the clutch, add your label, glue the sides and bottom of the clutch, secure in place and let dry, add magnetic snaps, and enjoy!  Happily show off your beautiful DIY no-sew envelope clutch to family, friends, neighbors and passers-by because, heck, you made it yourself!

I also have to give a quick shout-out to Dutch Label Shop and their beautiful custom labels!  I’ve shared a snap or two on Instagram, but I am absolutely in love with my personalized labels!  I was able to create my own graphic, specify my color palette and choose the size, shape and style of the labels.  My crafts and garments look sooo professional and legit now, letting my work speak for itself (so I don’t have to haha)!

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and are inspired to create your own (be sure to share if you do, I’d love to see)!!  As always, thanks for reading!

**The custom labels were provided courtesy of Dutch Label Shop in exchange for a tutorial as part of my role as Craft Test Sidekick for CutOutnKeep.net.  My opinions, however, are entirely my own, presented without bias.  If I say something is awesome, I mean it, I promise.  🙂

Bulky leather envelope clutch. Leather bag DIY Tutorial.

Lately I saw a lot of similar bulky envelope clutches on the blogs and magazines. They’re mostly handmade of organic leather and have a very minimalistic design. I know a lot of you are afraid to work with leather because you think it requires a lot of special tools. The only special tool you’ll need for this clutch are punch pliers and you can get those in every craft shop. To get organic leather might be more complicated. If you don’t have a leather store in your area you can get some organic leather on Ebay or Etsy. I went to local leather shop and asked them to cut a smaller piece from the edge. The leather edges are usually cheaper because they have damages and discoloration. But  for my design I was looking exactly for something like that.

The typical organic leather is very thick and robust. Even with leather needle it is very hard to get through the thick layers. But there is a super easy way to sew all kinds of thick materials, not just leather. You simple prepunch holes for the stitching with the punch pliers and then sew the parts together with the jeans thread. You won’t even need a leather needle, the regular one will do.

On the wrong side of the leather draw a big square, so that the leather edge is your clutch cover.

Then draw a rectangle with the same width. Cut out both patterns.

Now put the pieces together and punch little holes through both pieces along the edges. You can glue the parts together with a thin line of glue to prevent the slipping of the leather.

This is how it suppose to look.

With the double thread start to stitch with simple stitch (as shown on the picture) from one corner to another.

Once you’ve reached the other end secure the corner with double stitch.

Now with a new thread stitch back to the other end.

Once you’ve reached the corner secure it with double stitch and then knot the threads together and cut off the leftovers.

Cut a small strap for the D-ring and punch holes for the stitches.

Fold the strap around the D-ring and secure it with stitches as shown on the picture.

Attach the strap to left/right side of the clutch with stitches.

Cut a long hand strap, fold it around the carabiner loop and connect all 3 layers with stitching.

Attach your closure to the clutch. I am using a big button stud but you can use what ever you prefer.

Additionally I added a small leather circle to the clutch cover. It gives the closure better support and the clutch looks even more handcrafted.

Diy leather envelope clutch – Artofit

A few months ago, my MIL who works for an upscale furniture store gave us a few rolls of beautiful leather. They’ve been sitting in the basement unused. Yesterday, I decided to make myself an oversized clutch. I made a few minor mistakes here and there but overall, I like the way it turned out. I was going to do a video for you guys but I know it’ll take a long time to get it done. No video this time but I hope my pictures make sense. If you have any questions, I am more than happy to answer them. What you’ll need: – 18×24 poster board – 2 pieces of foam (for the lining) – A bunch of binder clips – Fabric glue – Magnetic snap – A cute button This is the dimensions of my clutch (18 inches wide and 8 1/2 inches high). I draw all my measurements on the poster board and cut it to the actual size. You can adjust whatever size suits your preference. I used my husband’s razor blade for all my cuttings. Razors work much better and faster than scissors Glue 2 pieces of foam onto one side of the drawing. You can buy a bigger piece of foam but my store ran out of them. 2 pieces work just fine for me. After you glued them together, wait a few minutes for the glue to dry then cut the excess foam off. One side of your drawing is now poster board and the other side is foam. Now, it’s time to glue the leather (or vinyl) onto the poster side of your clutch. After the glue has dried, cut the leather 3/4 inches larger all around than the drawing. Then you want to fold in the excess leather, glue and use the binder clips to secure. Wait about 15 minutes for the glue to dry then fold 2 flaps together and glue again. Now it’s time to put in your magnetic snap and your button. You can be done at this point. However, I’d like to add a bit of character to my clutch by adding leather trim all around. At first, I wanted to sew decorative stitches around my clutch but my sewing machine couldn’t handle the thickness of the leather. After breaking 2 needles, I gave up. I went to the store and bought a roll of leather trim. I used the same fabric glue and glued the leather trim around the outline of the clutch. This is the final product. It took me about 3 hours from start to finish. I am happy with the way it turned out (even with a few minor mistakes). I am thinking about making another bright one for summer. You don’t have to use leather, vinyl should be just fine. I hope you enjoy the tutorial. If you have any questions, please feel free to leave me a comment. Have a great week! Clutch Bag Envelope Ladies Leather, Large Black and Red Bags Do It Your Own

Clutch is a small stylish envelope bag. It will perfectly complement a business and casual outfit. If you can’t find a suitable version of a clutch on store shelves, then you can sew it yourself. Consider several options for how to sew and decorate a clutch envelope with your own hands.

White envelope clutch

We make a clutch without threads and needles

It will take no more than half an hour to make a stylish accessory using this example.In one evening, you can make a dozen beautiful and practical women’s handbags. After all, they, like clothes, do not exist.
We will need:

  • dense material, for example, leather or leatherette;
  • pen, marker or pencil;
  • pattern paper or newspaper;
  • scissors or awl;
  • ruler;
  • Sewing accessories: buttons or crochet hooks.

Any envelope can be taken as a pattern for a pattern. But first, let’s decide on the size.If you need a roomy and large envelope clutch, then add a few centimeters at the side folds. Attach the finished pattern to the material with safety pins and carefully cut along the contour. There is no need to leave seam allowances, because the edges do not need to be stitched and they do not need processing.

Turquoise envelope clutch

Fold the bottom of the envelope with the sides, and mark the point at which they intersect on each part. It is better to make marks from the wrong side, so as not to spoil the appearance of the product.Make a small hole at the mark on each part. It is best to do this with an awl, but you can also use scissors.

Clutch envelope from Chanel

We fold all the details again and insert a sewing button or a button for fastening into the hole. If desired, you can use another type of fittings. Then the hole on the parts is made in accordance with the type of fastening selected. Next, we make a hole for the hook or button at the top of the clutch.

Black envelope clutch

Leather envelope clutch

In this version, the clutch is sewn on a typewriter.It will also take a little time to make one handbag – one evening. You will need black leather or leatherette, as well as threads to match the color of the material. Prepare a sharp knife, piece of paper, chalk, ruler, pencil, and hardware for fastening.

Fashionable purple envelope clutch

Draw a template on paper and cut it out. The size of the accessory is selected based on convenience considerations. We attach and attach the pattern to the leather material, then carefully outline it with chalk and cut it out. Dotted lines indicate folds.

Fashionable brown leather envelope clutch

Tuck the lower part of the product by 1.5 centimeters and, using a sewing machine, sew along the line. Sew the left and right edges and the perimeter triangle. Cut a small hole on the top and attach the button. The second part of the button is attached in the middle of the lower part.

Red envelope clutch

Envelope clutch bag made of thick fabric

In this example, we sew a bag made of thick material with a thick lining.Such a clutch will keep its shape well. It can be made from denim, jacquard, leather. The base can be an old jacket or pants. We will connect the parts with hot glue; sheathing with dense threads also looks good.

Patent leather envelope clutch

How to sew a clutch in stages:

  • first of all we make a pattern, it should correspond to the estimated size of the finished bag;
  • clearly cut out the material according to the pattern;
  • fold parts 1 and 2 to the center, put part 3 on top of them;
  • Sew the resulting pockets, fasten with buttons or glue;
  • If the selected material turns out to be thin and deforms, then attach weights to the sides of the upper flap part.

Decorating the finished envelope clutch

When the main work is left behind, we start decorating.

There are many options for designing a handbag. It is worth choosing a style of jewelry based on your image. So for everyday outings, discreet things are suitable, but you can take a clutch bag with rhinestones to a party.

Summer envelope clutch

Rhinestones

They look great on all materials, but dense matte and shiny materials are more suitable: silk or taffeta.You can use ready-made appliqués, which are sold in many sewing supply stores. Or you can show your imagination and create your own composition. When buying, pay attention to the method of fastening, the rhinestones on the glue base hold better.

First of all, mark the sketch on the fabric. Once you’ve laid out the entire drawing, make sure it turns out exactly as you intended. It will be impossible to remake it after gluing. Heat the iron to the maximum temperature for the fabric. Take extra care with your skin. Press down on the rhinestones with an iron for a few seconds through a piece of cloth or gauze. Let the appliqué cool down.

Fashionable clutch bag

Metal studs and buttons

Rivets are round, square and studded. They change the appearance and texture of things, while being very pleasant to the touch. You can do it yourself with rivets. The main thing to remember is that rivets are easy to attach to thin fabrics, but thick fabrics will take longer to work.

Determine where the rivet will be located.Use an awl or knife to carefully poke two holes in the fabric. Insert the edges of the attachment into them. Bend the edges of the rivet down with pliers. Make sure they don’t scratch you while wearing. Insert all buttons in the same way.

Tassels and fringes

To make tassels you will need:

  • red GAMMA embroidery thread;
  • Regular polyester threads;
  • clear nail polish;
  • 12 * 8 plank.

Take the prepared board and wind the threads for embroidery on it. When the whole coil is wound, we tie the tassels tightly with a polyester thread. Leave the ends of the binding thread 15 cm. Turn the board over and cut the threads so that the winding remains in the middle.

Fashionable envelope clutch bag with perforation

To straighten the brushes, we hang them on a pencil and hold them over boiling water. We rewind the brushes with a polyester thread at a distance of 1 cm from the fold.The threads are then trimmed and secured with nail polish.

We will align the edges with a piece of paper. We wrap the brushes in it carefully and very tightly so that the tips remain outside the sheet. We flatten the resulting rolls and cut off the uneven ends with scissors.

Fashionable clutch bag with stitching

There are many more options for decorating clutches:

  • using embroidery;
  • metal chains;
  • applications;
  • brooches.

The clutch has become a necessary attribute of everyday and formal looks due to its small size and convenience. Sewing it with your own hands is not difficult, even if you have never sat at a typewriter. Prepare all the tools and start creating.

Fashionable envelope clutch in golden shade

Fashionable leather clutch

Today we will highlight a fashionable and irreplaceable, in my opinion, its practicality female accessory. Let’s consider how to sew a leather envelope clutch with your own hands.It is so easy to manufacture that it can be done in one-two-three. See for yourself.

European design, simplicity and purity of lines of this handbag truly deserves the title of a stylish thing. Well, look how easy it is to sew this leather bag.

How to make a clutch with your own hands

We need a piece of leather, by the way, we can use an old big bag. Another scissors, a needle with a synthetic thick thread to match, an awl, a ruler, one button for the fastener, plus two rivets at the edges.

Let’s start by drawing up a pattern. It is even better here that you compose it yourself, as choose the size that suits you best. Just estimate the amount of your belongings that will need to be put in the bag. Make a paper pattern by folding it in two folds and trying on the size.

We outline the pattern on a piece of leather, with a pencil, cut out the outline with scissors. Now comes the most interesting and difficult part. We will wield an awl. But first, make an even marking with a ruler where the two sides of the clutch are sewn together.Mark one side down to fold. We have already described more clearly in the master class about the lunchbox bag made of leather, do everything according to the same principle.

Now we take any wooden block, put it under the skin and pierce the markings with an awl. Be careful not to make big holes.

Fold in two and pierce the second side through the finished holes. Sew both sides with machine stitch. It will be like this – without threading the thread to the end, we leave the tail from the first hole.Now, we thread the needle into the next hole and back into the same hole, thread the tail we left earlier into the loop formed and tighten the loop. So we fasten all the holes together.

We install rivets at the edges where two sides meet and a stud fastener, as in the photographs, or a regular button. The installation can be entrusted to a master in repair shops or installed by yourself, with improvised means, for example with a hammer.

Or do without it altogether by making a leather cord that will fix the flap, as in the photo.

Cut a not very thin but long lace from a piece of leather. Make a hole in the center of the closure flap by tying a string to it with a knot on one side.

Now you can fix the flap by wrapping the lace around the clutch two times, tying a knot at the end.

That’s the whole process. Try to make such a clutch bag with your own hands and you will become the owner of a designer gizmo. Enjoy your creativity.

Thanks to Amy for these great pictures of clutches in our post.

Make an envelope clutch by yourself

An envelope clutch is a very feminine and elegant accessory. It decorates and complements the image of a woman. And if earlier he was a companion at social events and solemn events, today it is a functional and universal thing for every day.In stores you can find clutches of any size, color and style. But why not create a unique, exclusive model for yourself? Such a handbag will best suit your taste and needs.

How to make an envelope clutch with your own hands? In fact, there is nothing difficult about it.

Before you start, decide on the size, material and style of your accessory. When choosing the size of your future clutch, remember that this is still not a wallet, but a handbag. The most optimal parameters will be as follows: 15×20 cm, but you can also sew a large clutch.

Now regarding material selection. It is better to make a winter clutch from thick fabrics. For example, from drape, wool or leather. The summer version will look great with materials such as satin, silk or velvet. The fabric will take about half a meter, and don’t forget to purchase lining material.

So let’s start! Before you sew an envelope clutch, you need to make a pattern. Cut a rectangle out of cardboard to the size of the future handbag.Now we need to transfer our pattern to the wrong side of the fabric. Place the fabric face down and outline the cutout template with chalk or a bar of soap. Repeat this procedure twice to get three rectangles on top of each other on the fabric. Do the same on the lining fabric.

Make a flap pocket from the top rectangle. It turned out to be something that looks like an unfolded envelope. Do the same on the lining fabric.

The next step is stitching. The lining fabric should be put right side up, folded and sewn.It turned out to be a pocket. Next, you need to do the same with the main fabric, only turn it inside out. Then connect the base of the clutch with the lining, quilt the seams. We turn the product inside out and sew the lock on the finished envelope clutch. It can be a button or a clasp, depending on your taste.

You can sew a leather clutch. It is as lightweight as with regular fabric. The leather for the clutch should be chosen softer. Think over the design of your future handbag. You can even make a sketch. Leather of bright colors and lightning in contrasting black color will look very stylish and beautiful.

So, prepare all the necessary materials and tools: leather cut, pins, zipper, scissors. When choosing a zipper, keep in mind that it should be the same size as the future clutch.

Make a pattern as described above. Cut it out. The first step is to secure the zipper to the long side of the clutch with pins. Then you can stitch it to the canvas. And only then lay the side seams.

The envelope clutch has simple shapes. Therefore, making it yourself will not be difficult.Plus, you can sew it from the same material as your outfit. This combination will look very stylish. Now you do not need to search for a long time and choose the design of the clutch you like. Sew it yourself according to your liking!

pattern, how to sew from an old bag, step-by-step master class

There are never too many handbags.Each outfit dictates its own rules for the selection of accessories. You can afford to have clutches for any dress from the wardrobe, if you learn how to sew them yourself. This is not as difficult as it seems at first glance.

How to sew from an old bag?

If a large bag is dusty in the closet, which is a pity to throw away, it’s time to give it a second life. A forgotten old thing can be turned into a completely new, stylish accessory.

First you need to open all the outer seams of the large bag. The lining does not need to be touched, it is perfect for the interior decoration of the future clutch.

A new handbag can be made according to the simplest pattern, where a rectangular piece of fabric is conventionally divided into three parts: the front and back sides of the handbag and the flap.

  • Parts for a new product must be cut out of the old bag. It’s good if it works out neatly. If not, it’s not scary either. You just have to pay more attention to the decor.
  • When the old bag is cut and the dimensions of the future accessory are determined, the lining is cut off.
  • Details are sewn on the inside. To do this, they are folded with the right side to each other and a line is made on three sides.The handles and the zipper are then sewn on.
  • After that, the product is turned inside out and connected with a seam on the fourth side.
  • The valve can be closed using conventional or magnetic buttons.
  • Upon completion, the seams of the leatherette clutch must be tapped with a special hammer. It is enough to iron the textile product with an iron. This is done in order to align the seams, then the work will look neater.
  • It is advisable to use glue to strengthen the seams between the parts of the clutch.

Leather clutch bag

Sewing a leather envelope clutch with your own hands is not difficult at all. The advantage of leather or leatherette is that for such a product you do not need to work on the seal. This material has excellent shape retention. For the same reason, a leather clutch does not require additional fasteners.The main thing is to choose a pattern successfully.

Such a thing is sewn in the same way as a clutch from an old bag. Only the part for the valve is made in a triangular shape. From a piece of fabric, you can create a purse of the desired size.

Evening clutch

For sewing an evening clutch, a paper pattern is used – for the main part of the product and for the side insert.In it, the dimensions of the parts are increased by one centimeter, which is necessary for the seam.

Wall details are cut out according to the same pattern: upper fabric, interlining, synthetic winterizer, lining, sealant.

Everything is the same, except for the seal, it is cut out for the side inserts. Accordingly, there should be two elements.

  • Details intended for the front side of the future clutch are glued with non-woven fabric.The glued parts are sewn with padding polyester along the cuts, then quilted in any shape, but so that the stitching matches the pattern on the fabric.
  • Shortening the edge trim is 1.5 cm, then trimmed to the topline. After that, you can carefully remove the protective film and stick it on the quilted wall. After that, the lining is sewn: on the main part – along the oval line of the valve, on the inserts – along straight cuts.
  • Now you need to turn the product out and sweep the oval edge of the flap, making notches.Then carry out the finishing stitch. It remains to tuck and manually hem the top line.
  • All remaining cuts are joined with one stitch. The place where the fastener will be must be stitched twice. Then the button will not spoil the bag with every opening and closing. Then you can sew on the fastener itself.
  • One-piece joins with side inserts. In this case, the lining must be turned off. The seams turn towards the inserts and hide under the lining, securing them with blind stitches.

The accessory can be completed with a beautiful flower. It is not at all difficult to make it:

  • Two strips 90 cm long and 9 cm wide are cut out.
  • Folds in half and stitches, leaving a gap through which it will be convenient to unscrew the part.
  • One corner of the tape obtained must be unscrewed and secured with a stitch.
  • Then the petals are formed by turning the tape at right angles, securing the turns with stitches.
  • The flower will look beautiful on the flap in place of the fastener.

Stylish model with bow: master class

Another beautiful and simple model is a small handbag with a bow.By consistently completing all the points of the plan, you can create a stylish accessory with your own hands. For a purse, you need to prepare a piece of fabric for the front side.

It is better to use a thick fabric so that no seals are needed. Another cut is needed for the lining.

The bag will consist of the following elements:

  • 2 pieces of 25×15 cm – the main part of the bag;
  • 2 parts 27.5×15.5 each – bow;
  • 1 piece 36×8.5 cm – handle;
  • 1 piece 5×12.5 cm – middle of the bow;
  • 2 pieces 25×15 cm – lining.

It is more convenient to start with a bow:

  • Fold the piece of fabric for the middle of the bow as shown in the photo.
  • Then we sew one line at each edge.
  • Join the edges, face to face.
  • We turn the ends in different directions, iron the seam and turn it out.

Now for the handle:

  • Fold a strip of fabric in half lengthwise and iron it.
  • Then unfold and fold, but with both edges to the center, and again in half.
  • After that we iron and sew again on a typewriter.
  • We connect and sew the ends.

Back to Bantu:

  • Fold both parts face to face and join on the sides.
  • Turn the resulting “sleeve” onto the front side and iron it.
  • Carefully collect the folds of the bow and thread it through the middle.
  • Take the main part and apply the bow at the desired level.
  • It should be noted that the bow is slightly longer than the main part of the clutch, because the jewelry should look three-dimensional.
  • We pin the bow on the sides, aligning the edges with the main part.
  • Stitching.
  • Then we sew a handle at the upper edge of the bow.

Lightning:

  • Sew one half of the zipper face to face with the front of the future accessory, the other with the back.
  • Then, using the zipper foot on both parts, sew a stitch close to the fastener.

Lining:

  • Take the lining piece and sew it with a line to the inside of the zipper.
  • Do the same for the front and back walls of the clutch.
  • Now we combine the resulting parts – front with front, lining with lining.Here you need to look carefully so that all the edges fit perfectly.
  • We pin the front part and the lining around the perimeter, then we sew. The corners can be made semicircular.
  • Remember to skip the line on the lining – leave room for turning inside out.
  • Excess fabric at the corners can be trimmed off.
  • Carefully twist and straighten.
  • Sew a hole in the lining.

DIY phone case

In this article we will look at how to make a phone case the way we want it to be. The options will be offered different, which one to make, just from leather or glamorous from beads, you choose. In principle, depending on the future owner, the mistress of the cover, the preferred option also depends.And so, we will begin to list the possible options for you, and you just choose.

DIY simple leather phone case

One of the simplest, but not the best looking option. Here, as they say, practicality comes first, and then only everything else.
A telephone is placed on a sheet of paper folded in half and a contour is made with a margin for the thickness of the telephone.

Cut out a pattern from paper.

We check the accuracy of the cut, attach it to the phone.

Cut out a piece of leather using a paper template.

And again we check the accuracy of the workpiece by phone.

We make holes for threads. They can also be made directly and during the sewing process.

Next comes the sewing process. External seam. The smoothness and beauty of the seam will determine the look of your phone case, so try it.

Of course, not ideal, but suitable for men’s hands.As we said, practicality comes first.

Beautiful phone case

Choosing the fabric for the cover. It should be tight and elastic so that bends and holes do not form on the second day. It is also worth thinking about the inner layer to protect the phone from scratches. And, of course, think about the fastener – zipper, button, Velcro or something else.

Then a pattern is made taking into account the dimensions of the phone and the seam allowances for both types of fabric.

Finishing the outer cover and the valve of the inner cover. We sew (insert) a latch – a button.

We turn out the front cover and insert and insert it into the inner one. The upper part of the valve is stitched and the cover is turned outward. Loose edges are folded inward and hemmed with a needle. We decorate the valve with braid or frill.

Case-envelope for phone

The cover will be made of leather.
Preparing the template. Everyone knows how envelopes are made. Take a piece of paper and fold it corner to corner. That’s all, actually. Only when creating a template for a phone do we take into account its dimensions and thickness, and do not forget about allowances for seams. Having made a paper template, put it on our skin and make holes with an awl.

And then we cut out a piece of leather according to the template, which will become a case for the phone.

Sew the template with a dotted line along the holes.

And then sew the gaps to make a solid line.

Add the template. Connect the left and right sides with a stitch.

Glue the lower part. We apply glue and push it inside.

Here is the cover and ready.

Multi-colored phone case

To make it, you need a fabric, a non-woven backing, threads, a ring.

To prevent the fabric from warping, we strengthen it with a non-woven backing by gluing it to the fabric with a heated iron.

We make a blank for fastening the ring.

Sew the fabric on a typewriter to make a strip and set it aside for now. Sew the fabric around the edges, leaving a 3mm seam allowance.

Sew on the strip with the ring and turn the cover onto the front side. Outside decorative stitches can be made around the edges of the cover.

That’s it, your phone case is ready.

Beaded phone case

This phone case is perhaps worthy of gentle female hands, and also in beauty it is able to compete with many other copies… The only significant drawback of making such a phone case is its high labor intensity. Here you have to choose based on the laws of life. Choose either to work hard and become the owner of a beautiful beaded phone case, or not to strain yourself and walk with something overgrown.
Used beads “Felling”, thread “Iris”, hook.

String the beads.

Based on the size of the phone, add up the width and thickness of the phone and multiply by two.In the example, it turned out 13 cm. We collect air loops for half of this size -6.5 cm. It is tied on both sides without beads. This is the bottom of the case for our phone.

Then beads are added to each loop and knitting continues without dividing into rows.

The outside looks like this.

We continue to knit.

We knit to the required height. The last rows can be knitted with beads of a different color.We tie a strap to the corner. A do-it-yourself phone case is ready.

If you need to sew a cover for your other electronic gadgets, say for a tablet, then this is also not a problem … “How to sew a cover for a tablet with your own hands.”

DIY leather wallet master class. Envelope “Purse”

Hello! The production of “leather goods” continues.))) This time I made an envelope-purse for the head of our division.
The decor is practically absent: it achieved the maximum resemblance to a real men’s wallet.I used pastel paper – I like that, in combination with the stitching, it very much resembles leather.

I captured several stages of work – I hope it will come in handy.
We take a sheet of paper for pastels measuring 24X9.5 cm. On the side we glue something strong, but thin and flexible. I have a tape that is used for hemming trousers (if I am mistaken in terminology, please forgive my sewing ignorance))). Next, we stitch our workpiece with floss threads. I “scribbled” by hand. Happy owners of sewing machines will be able to save time by using their assistants.))) Here and in the processing of other details of the envelope, the indent from the edge is 0.5 cm.
We get the outer side of the purse. This is the front part.

Wrong side of the outside.

Let’s start making pockets. In my case, there are four of them: three for plastic cards (sizes: 5X10.5; 4.5X10.5 and 4X10.5 cm) and one for a window (the size of the workpiece along the outer perimeter is 8X10.5 cm). The size of the window itself is arbitrary. Transparent plastic is inserted into the window. The transparent cover from the old desk calendar helped me out.It is thick enough and was difficult to sew, but quite doable. A great option in this case is the top cover of plastic binders. The file will be a bit thin, although … the gifted person will not go shopping with this thing.))) Before sewing, in order to avoid shifts, we fix the transparent insert to the paper at the corners with double-sided tape.
Pay ATTENTION that the stitching is not on all sides of the pockets: we will not do unnecessary work, and the imposition of one stitch on another will not add neatness to the product.

Let’s start working on the inner side of the wallet. On a sheet of paper for pastels measuring 24X9.5 cm, first we glue, and then we sew along the right edge of the pocket for plastic cards (the upper one is 5.5 cm wide and down in descending order of width). Glue the window pocket on the right. We sew the entire inner side of the wallet. Do not forget that we have functional pockets and the top side is not glued or sewn on.

Wrong side of the inner side of the envelope. The vertical line inside the rectangle is the one that holds the card holders on one side.

Glue the outer and inner sides of the envelope inside out on the sides and bottom, leaving a large pocket for money. Draw a fold line in the middle. I do not have a special tool for creasing, I use a ballpoint pen with an empty refill. We add up.

Cut the trouser tape to the required length. We fasten the clasp. As a fastener, I used: Velcro from diapers straps on the tape and a piece of coarse dense brown felt on the purse itself. A sheet magnet was originally planned.But since I still can’t find such magnets on sale, I decided to donate the available sheet magnet with the logo of a well-known cosmetic company. It held perfectly on the refrigerator and before gluing its pieces were normally attracted. But in the end it turned out to be very weak and the purse was unscrupulously opened.)))

Closed wallet. Outside, the strap (trouser tape) is decorated with a piece of my leather belt. I bought it quite recently, already getting carried away with making postcards.The seller was shortening the belt. “Please give me the segment,” I said. “Of course,” the seller replied benevolently. “I always offer everyone the rest of their belts, but everyone refuses.” “For scrapbooking,” I said. “I understand,” she replied, and I saw that the person was not at all surprised and really understood what it was about. Pleasantly!
Large pocket withstands the thickness of five bills without disturbing the original appearance of the envelope. If you need to place more money, I think small pockets will help out.

What is a clutch?

Small clutch bags occupy an important place in the classification of models and styles of women’s accessories. The clutch is a small, elegant envelope bag. It has a small handle, no strap. As a rule, this accessory is wrapped in the palm of the hand or worn under the arm.

Currently, the clutch is used not only for the evening out – such a bag can be worn in the daytime, while combining with it both skirts and dresses, as well as jeans and trousers.Everyday models are large and sometimes look like an average bag. Despite this, such clutches are worn in the hand, while pressing them to the side and resting the bottom of the product with the palm of the hand.

Important! To create everyday clutches, natural or artificial leather, various types of fabrics or even soft transparent plastic are used. Usually in the colors of such products there are calm tones and they have a style that has a rectangular shape.

But the classic options for small evening accessories are trying not to give up their positions.Each new season is marked by a new interesting type of clutches. Decor items play an important role. These accessories are very stylish and graceful, thanks to precious and semi-precious stones, rhinestones, beads, beads, crystals, feathers, bows, ribbons and all kinds of metal elements.

A very important point is the selection of the right material, which must be pliable, have a soft and plastic base.For this purpose, artificial leather is perfect, with which it is pleasant to work with and create amazing models. In addition, leather based on artificial fibers has a rich assortment of colors.

In order to make your own leather clutch, you also need to prepare the following materials and tools:

  • sewing machine;
  • a needle with a thread of the desired color;
  • sewing pins;
  • scissors;
  • zip-fastener matching imitation leather;
  • a thin ruler to keep the lines precise;

To sew a leather clutch in the form of a cosmetic bag:

  • Determine the dimensions of the future product. The most optimal clutch bag, which is comfortable to carry in your hands, is a model with dimensions of 20 by 30 centimeters.
  • Draw a pattern, adding 1.5 cm on all sides for seam allowances.
  • Fold the piece of leather in half, with the right side inward.
  • Transfer the pattern to the artificial leather material.
  • Cut out the workpiece along the outlined lines.
  • Tuck in the upper cut of the fabric, attach the zipper with sewing pins.

Important! Try not to be mistaken with the size of the fastener – it should be slightly longer than the length of the top cut. For the accessory to look beautiful, the zipper should fit snugly against the side walls of the product. If the selected zipper turned out to be a little larger, then the excess of the lock can always be cut off.

  • Attaching a zipper to the future product.You can sew a stitch along the front side of the accessory, then you get a factory seam. At your discretion, you can sew a lock, like a secret one.
  • Turn the clutch bag inside out.
  • Fasten the side cuts with sewing pins.

Important! To avoid visible traces of pin punctures, you need to fasten as close to the edge as possible.

  • Sew the side seams. If you prefer to make the accessory bulky rather than flat, then the bottom edges on the side seams will need to be sewn at an angle.

The envelope-shaped leather clutch is ready!

Selecting material and creating patterns

Almost any fabric is suitable for sewing a clutch. The texture of the material does not affect the manufacturing process. Today, there are many options for shaping the desired shape. The following are used as a sealant:

For the manufacture of a handbag, velvet, velor, gabardine, jeans, natural fur or leather, as well as natural or synthetic threads for knitting are used.Before starting work, you need to decide what kind of fastener will be. It can be a zipper or a magnetic button. In addition to the base material, a lining fabric is required. The choice depends on the product model.

The accessory has small dimensions, which vary depending on the wishes of the future owner. To accurately calculate the amount of material, you need a bag pattern. The rectangular shape of the clutch with a width of 27 cm consists of three parts:

  • valve – 10 cm;
  • front part – 19 cm;
  • back – 19 cm.

The clutch valve can be triangular, rounded or trapezoidal.

To correctly build a diagram, experienced needlewomen use special graph paper. First, using a pencil and a ruler, markup is made on a sheet, then the resulting parts are cut out. After that, they are transferred to the fabric using chalk and pins. For beginners, it is better to take a ready-made version of a pattern from the Internet or a magazine.

Out of fashion old bags often gather dust in the closet or lie on the shelves. There are several reasons why you do not want to wear these accessories:

  • unattractive appearance;
  • handles are badly worn;
  • the product is obsolete.

Such bags can be given a second life by converting them into clutches.

Materials

For the manufacture of such a product, the following materials must be prepared:

  • old bag;
  • chalk or pencil;
  • scissors;
  • sewing machine;
  • needle and thread;
  • straps for fastening;
  • zipper;
  • magnetic valve or a few simple buttons;
  • seam hammer;
  • iron;
  • glue.

Updating the product

DIY leather clutch pattern:

  • Carefully undo all the seams of the outer fabric of the old bag.
  • Leave the lining unchanged, as it can generally be sewn into a new product.
  • We draw a pattern for the future accessory.
  • From the parts of the old bag that are not damaged, we cut out the details of the future product.

Important! If it is not possible to use undamaged areas, then you will have to decorate the finished work.

  • Determine the required size of the lining, and cut the old version according to the pattern.
  • Having attached the details of the future product with the front sides, we sew the blanks on three sides.
  • Add loop-shaped straps to our accessory.
  • Sew in a zipper.
  • Turn the product inside out and sew on the fourth side.
  • Insert a magnetic valve or a choice of several buttons.

Important! If you are making a new version of a leatherette bag, then use a hammer to break the seams, or you can use a warm iron to smooth the seams.Thus, the seams will be fixed, and they will have an even appearance.

  • If necessary, use glue to connect the parts of the accessory.

Important! The creation of a clutch bag from leatherette according to the manufacturing process is very similar to the procedure for sewing with natural material. The only difference is in some points of stitching and gluing. Natural leather is more susceptible to deformation. Leatherette is dense enough to keep your clutch bag in shape.

Master classes of different models with patterns

It is better for a beginner master to practice on the simplest rectangular models, the pattern of which will not take much time. Experienced seamstresses can tackle the production of a curly or decorated clutch. A beautiful hand-made bag is always relevant and attracts attention.

Women’s clutch made of genuine leather with your own hands: a pattern with a description

To make a clutch according to this pattern you will need:

  • a piece of genuine leather;
  • cotton fabric;
  • threads;
  • rubber glue;
  • hammer;
  • scissors;
  • ruler;
  • needles;
  • chalk;
  • foam foam;
  • carbine and half ring;
  • zipper.

Important! Use a thimble to protect your fingers.

The sequence of actions is as follows:

  1. Determination of the size. To do this, draw a rectangle with sides of 40 and 30 cm on a piece of thick cardboard.About 2-3 cm on the fabric will then be left as seam allowances.
  2. Transferring the dimensions from the stencil to the leather fabric. Choose a suitable skin (it must be soft, otherwise there is a risk of needle breakage), apply a rectangle to it and trace around the edges with chalk.The operation is repeated 1 more time. After the incision, two identical pieces of leather are obtained.
  3. Lining cut out. Follow the same steps as in the case of the base.
  4. Shaping. To keep the bag in shape, foam foam is glued to the leather base, retreating about 3-4 cm from the edge.
  5. Making a fastener. The clutch is made with a zipper. It is attached to leather rectangles that have not yet been sewn together. Seams are treated with glue and hammered.
  6. Edging.The edges of the leather base are folded over, overlaid. The same is done with a cotton lining.
  7. Connection. Both parts of the bag are joined at the seams, they begin to sew to the bottom. Turn the bag inside out through the zipper.

The strap is made of leather, not forgetting the need to attach two half rings to the edges of the bag from the front side. As a result of the pattern of a clutch made of leather, you should get a flat handbag.

Important ! The edges of the leather fabric can be processed in a lighter flame.

Do-it-yourself leather envelope clutch: pattern with description

The sequence of actions is the same as in the case of a leather handbag. But since the envelope assumes a top, overlapping part, more fabric will be needed, as well as rivets. They sew like this:

  1. On a piece of fabric, measure the dimensions for two identical rectangles.
  2. Cut them out.
  3. Cut out the lining (you can use cotton or fabric for lining, which is sold in the store).
  4. Approximately 15 cm recede from the top of the bag (bag 30 by 40 cm) and a zipper is sewn in.
  5. Do not forget about the need to maintain the shape of the bag, the fabric is glued to cardboard or foam.
  6. The lining and the base are sewn along the edges, without touching the part that is located above the zipper, the bag is turned inside out.
  7. Sew on top.
  8. Rivet the top and middle of the bag and fold it over to close it.

The clutch is ready, you can attach a strap to it, but usually envelope bags are carried in hands.If you follow the step-by-step instructions, sewing takes no more than 3-4 hours.

How to sew a men’s clutch made of genuine leather with your own hands: pattern, description

A men’s handbag at home is sewn according to the same pattern as a women’s one. But a men’s clutch, the pattern of which, most often, does not provide for the presence of a shoulder girdle, also differs in a more restrained color. If a woman’s clutch can be cut out of a light or colored piece of leather, then for a man’s one only a dark black or brown fabric is needed.Otherwise, the sewing process is the same.

Do-it-yourself clutch from an old bag: pattern with a description

Old bags should not be thrown away. Often, only the edges in the seams are damaged, and the base itself, the sides, turn out to be intact. The bag needs to be ripped open, separating the handles and small parts, and remove the lining. From the resulting pieces, you can sew an excellent clutch. If you can’t cut a suitable even piece, you do not need to be upset. It is worth remembering how a patchwork quilt is sewn.
