CD Players & CD Changers

CD Players Keep the Party Going Longer

When you have a large collection of music on physical media, CD players allow you to play your favorite tracks, share music with others at gatherings, or play relaxing music to put customers at ease. These players come in a range of models from many trusted brands and feature an array of music-playing capabilities.

Using a Multi-Disc CD Changer

CD changers let you play an eclectic assortment of tracks, with many models offering spaces for five or six discs. You can play each one individually in order, listening to them in their entirety, or set it on random, so you get a surprise with every track change. These multi-CD players are also a great way to enjoy an artist’s entire body of work. Multi-disc CD players often also feature radios, or pair with a separate AM/FM radio tuner to pick up your favorite local broadcasts.

Make a CD Player Part of a Larger Stereo Setup

Setting up home CD players as part of a bigger entertainment center is simple, and many offer connections for both speakers and headphones. Some models have feet for shelf stability. Others are rack mountable, which is especially useful for commercial applications. Internal stabilization prevents skipping, and DAC (digital analog conversion) produces high-quality, clear sound with less noise.

Use a CD player and cassette deck together at a throwback party for nostalgic musical fun.

CD Players to Fit Any Size Space

If you have limited space, consider smaller compact disc players that offer the same high-quality audio while taking up less room. Larger multi-CD players are a suitable choice for bigger stereo cabinets and dedicated entertainment spaces where you have space to accommodate them. For listening on the go, look for portable disc players.

Combining Different Music Media

Many players are compatible with CDs and with other music formats. There are connections for digital players such as iPods, and support for MP3, WMA, and other music files. Some even offer writing capabilities so you can make your own music mixes. You can also combine a disc player with a turntable to boost the versatility of a DJ set.

When you want to get the most out of enjoying your music collection and hear songs in high quality, find the reliable equipment you need at B&H Photo and Video.

Yatour YTM06 digital CD changer for OEM radio

In today’s review, we will focus on auto sound. Everyone probably knows how to install huge speakers in the trunk, but how to teach a head unit to read flash drives, memory cards and a playlist from your smartphone or player, you will find out in this review.

I am the owner of a 2004 Audi A4 car in which the Audiconcert head unit is installed. Together with the radio, there are 2 speakers in the front doors plus tweeters, two speakers in the rear doors and a regular subwoofer in the trunk. As it all sounds fine to me. Moreover, it is possible to play CD discs and you can connect a CD changer. But the head unit cannot read mp3, and it is somehow not cool at all to store 12 songs on one disk in 2017. And it’s simply not convenient. Let’s fix this.

Here is a Utor digital CD changer. The principle of its operation is no different from the standard CD changer only instead of CD disks, you can use a USB flash drive, memory card or aux.

The device is supplied in a package made of thick cardboard.

The set includes a device module, instructions in English, AUKSA cord, and two cables for connecting to the standard radio connector.

In some cases, like mine, you may need additional chips of different pinouts to connect. This is a 20-pin chip for connecting the Audi head unit. I bought it separately.

The device module itself has a small weight and size. Fits easily in the palm of your hand.On the front there are slots for a flash drive, memory card and aux. The device supports two formats mp3 and WMA, simultaneous playback from multiple media is not supported.

According to the manufacturer, the installation takes no more than 10 minutes, and to play the tracks, you need to prepare the media in advance by creating folders on it with names like CD1, CD2, CD3 up to 10.

For installation, we need special keys to remove the head unit, and crosshead screwdriver.Keys are not included, bought separately.

I did not describe the installation process, but recorded a visual video, I hope it will be useful for those who have Audi.

I suggest going through the pros and cons of this device.

Of the obvious advantages

  • the device fits more than 20 car brands the difference is only in chips and pins
  • compact, can be placed in consoles or in the glove compartment
  • easy and quick installation
  • collective farm
  • it is still possible to adjust the volume on the steering wheel since the radio tape recorder perceives Utor as an ordinary CD changer
  • affordable price compared to the simplest 2-din radio tape recorder

Of the minuses
  • keys for removing the head unit do not go to set
  • if your model has an additional chip, as in my case we buy it separately, it costs about 10-15% of the cost of the device itself.
  • if we play through AUX, for example, a playlist of a smartphone or player, then the switching of tracks will occur from the carrier and not from the radio

Well, today we got acquainted with another cool device, I hope my review was useful for you who liked it, put a plus, comment. Thanks for reading to the end. Roman was with you, see you again, all the best, bye! 90,000 HOW: Are CD Changers Still Viable Today?

Automobiles tend to lag behind consumer technology by several years, mainly due to a lengthy design process.New technologies such as Bluetooth and USB tend to appear in aftermarket head units long before major automakers use them, and older technologies such as cassette tapes and CDs stay on cars much longer than others. places.

Even if you’ve ditched CDs in favor of a digital music collection, or even subscribed to a service like Spotify or Google Play Music, your car probably still has a CD player in it.And if you still listen to CDs in your car, then there is a strong case for investing in a CD changer, even these days of Pandora and Spotify.

What’s Good – CD Changer?

CDs are devices that overcome a couple of basic problems that commonly arise when listening to CDs on car audio systems.

The biggest hurdle the CD format initially faced was its tendency to skip and stutter when shaken, which was a huge stumbling block for early car CD players.Various anti-impact measures have ensured that there is no problem, but a few glaring problems still remain.

Compared to purely digital media, traditional CDs lag behind the total listening time and also have safety concerns when manually changing CDs while driving. Since CD changers allow you to easily switch between multiple discs at the touch of a button, they deal with both of these problems.

In addition to these two main problems, the CD changer can also compensate for the disadvantages of a factory head unit that does not have a CD player. This can allow you to easily add a CD player to your car audio system while leaving the factory hardware intact.

The main types of CD changers are:

  • Remote CD Changer – These can be installed anywhere in your car, from under the seat to hide it in the trunk. Some of these units are designed to integrate seamlessly with a specific line of head units, while others are versatile.
  • Dash CD changer – Installing a dash CD changer requires an upgrade to the car radio as they actually switch the changer directly to the headunit. You say goodbye to the head unit, but you don’t have to dig in the trunk or under the seat to swap discs.

Both of these types of CD changers are available as original equipment and aftermarket upgrades.

CD Changers In-Dash

Some vehicles come with in-dash CD changers from the factory, but this type of head unit is also available on the aftermarket. This type of CD changer contains a built-in magazine that is completely contained in the head unit, so most of them fit into the dual DIN form factor. They are relatively easy to operate as you usually just load one CD after another until the changer is full.

The main advantages of in-dash CD changers are that they are not associated with additional wiring and there is no remote control for mounting in the trunk or under the seat. This means they take up less space than remotely mounted CD changers, and aftermarket units are usually installed with very little hassle.

The main disadvantage of in-dash CD changers is that they usually cannot hold as many CDs as an external unit. It is generally also more difficult to change which CDs you have in your device, as you have to eject them one at a time and then replace them one at a time. External devices are generally easier to deal with and sometimes allow multiple logs to be used.

Remote mounted CD changers

Some vehicles also come with factory installed remote CD changers, but these are much more common in the aftermarket. If your car originally had a CD changer as an option, you can add a factory unit or use an adapter to add an aftermarket unit. Otherwise, you’re stuck with after-sales service and several different installation options.

Remote CD Changers can be installed in a variety of locations including the trunk, glove box and under the seat. These devices are usually not mounted on the dashboard due to their relatively large size, but there are some exceptions.

Depending on where the remote CD changer is installed, one of the drawbacks of this option is the level of difficulty associated with changing the installed CDs. If the changer is in the trunk, you can only replace the discs when the car is parked. However, the units that are installed in the cabin are much easier to handle.

Remote CD Changers will generally fit more CDs than their counterparts, and many also support removable magazines. When the changer includes a detachable magazine, you can have multiple magazines, each filled with specific CDs, allowing you to quickly swap one set for the other. Some remote CD changers allow multiple magazines to be installed at once.

Important Features of the CD Changer

Some of the most important functions to look for in a CD changer include:

  • Impact Protection – This can help prevent your CDs from skipping when driving over rough terrain. If you already have a CD player in your car but is very old, then a new CD changer will usually be a big improvement in this department.
  • CD-RW Compatibility – Some older CD players cannot play CDs created with a CD burner, even if you burn the disc as an audio CD instead of a data CD. Most newer CD changers are compatible with discs you burn at home.
  • Multiple audio codec support – Most of the new CD changers are also capable of reading data CDs recorded in popular formats such as WMA, MP3, AAC and others.
  • Disc Title – This is a useful feature as it allows your headunit to display the song name instead of the track number.

While these and other features are important in both dash and remote mount CD changers in terms of usability, connectivity and compatibility are also important features to consider in the case of remote devices. The only way to add a CD changer to a factory headunit is usually to find an OEM module, and cross-compatibility is a feature you are most likely to find in the aftermarket.

90,000 What is FM Modulated CD Changer? The

FM modulated CD changer, sometimes referred to as the optional CD changer, works with existing factory car radios to provide multi-CD functionality. A factory radio must not have CD capability in order to use this device; instead, the changer comes with its own controls.

When using an FM modulated CD changer, the selected FM frequency is used for CD playback. The radio is tuned to the indicated frequency and the supplied wired remote display is used to turn on and control the CD changer. A hard LCD display displays song information, and a wireless remote control card provides convenience.

Adding multi-disc functionality to your car, truck or van is extremely convenient. The FM Modulated CD Changer can hold six to 12 CDs, depending on the model. The discs can remain loaded into the changer at the special magazine, keeping them clean, protected from damage and, most importantly, easily accessible. Considering one CD can store up to 10 hours of MP3 tunes, a loaded magazine would mean miles of driving without repeating songs.

There are many circumstances in which an FM modulated CD changer is preferred simply because it does not require factory replacement. It is possible to add one to a rented vehicle and then remove it when the rental period expires. Some people simply choose to leave their vehicles in spare condition, while others don’t want the cost or hassle of replacing the built-in dashboard with something newer with more functionality.

Besides convenience, the CD changer is also safer. Loading CDs one at a time can mean searching for discs and fiddling with your deck, trying to keep your eyes on the road. With a changer, up to 60 hours or more of pure digital music is available at the push of a button.

FM Modulated CD Changers are available online and from many car audio retailers. The unit is usually installed under the seat, inside the side panel, or under the trunk panel. For those who wish to install the device themselves, instructions are available online. Others may choose a professional installation.

DIY CD changer emulator circuit

Many car owners are faced with the fact that the head unit does not correspond to modern realities, cannot work with USB drives, cannot interface with a smartphone, even just receive sound from an analog input, etc.But now it is convenient to store information on portable digital devices, including carrying your favorite musical compositions with you.

Therefore, the standard player either simply stands in its place, so as not to spoil the look of the dashboard with its absence, or is used only as a radio receiver.

Of course, replacement with more modern equipment is possible, but the price of the solution does not always meet expectations. Therefore, all kinds of devices and assemblies appear on the market that make it possible to fill the missing functionality of a regular player.

One of these tricky devices is the CD changer emulator.

What is it for

The essence of the device is as follows:

1.Many radio tape recorders can work with external CD changers, that is, they have the necessary interface for this (hardware input that accepts a certain communication protocol).

2. The emulator connects to this interface and sends a code that matches the real CD changer.

3. The most popular AUX connector is used as the input point for external devices.

4. Now, by transmitting an analog signal from your smartphone (MP3-player, etc.) to the input of the emulator, you can play music on your native radio without replacing it or radically altering it.

CD changer emulators have one serious drawback – they only work with certain brands of car radios. The fact is that manufacturers use different data exchange standards.

Of course, on the network you can find ready-made emulators with various functionality that implement the ability to read files from external USB drives, connect via Bluetooth, etc.

But we will focus on the simplest options that can be implemented without any special difficulties with your own hands.

General algorithm

1. It is best to design a block based on a programmable microcircuit, so you will be able to implement almost any communication protocol, regardless of the brand and manufacturer of the car radio.

2. The microcircuit must send a specially formed response code that corresponds to the real response of the CD changer. The protocol can be found on manufacturers’ websites or on thematic forums.

3. The emulator can be placed behind the radio or even inside it by connecting to the correct output.

4. On the front panel of the radio, you need to find a place for the analog input equipment (this can be a 3.5 mm mini-jack or analog).

What is a CD changer? – gadgetshelp, com

Automobiles tend to lag behind consumer technology by several years, mainly due to a lengthy design process. New technologies such as Bluetooth and USB tend to appear in aftermarket head units long before major car manufacturers use them, and older technologies such as cassettes and CDs stay in cars much longer than others. places.

Even if you’ve ditched CDs for a digital music collection, or even subscribed to a service like Spotify or Google Play Music, you probably still have a CD player in your car. And if you still listen to CDs in your car, then there is a strong case for investing in a CD changer so you can cycle through multiple CDs without replacing, even these days Pandora and Spotify.

What’s good about a CD changer?

The

CD changers are devices that overcome a couple of basic problems commonly encountered when listening to CDs in car audio systems.

The biggest hurdle the CD format initially suffered from was its tendency to skip and stutter when shaken, which was a huge sticking point for early car CD players.Various anti-shock measures have made this not a problem, but a couple of glaring problems still remain.

Compared to purely digital media, traditional CDs lag behind in total listening time and there are safety concerns associated with manually changing CDs while driving. Because CD changers make it easy to switch between multiple discs at the touch of a button, they solve both of these problems.

Apart from these two main problems, the CD changer can also make up for the shortcomings of a factory head unit that does not have a CD player. This can allow you to add a CD player to your car audio system without any problem, leaving the original equipment intact.

Main types of CD changers:

  • Remote CD Changers – These can be installed anywhere in your car, from the seat to hidden in the trunk. Some of these devices are designed to integrate seamlessly with a specific line of head units, while others are versatile.
  • Built-in CD Changers – Installing the built-in CD changers requires an upgrade to the car radio as they actually plug the changer directly into the head unit. You say goodbye to your headunit, but you don’t have to dig in the trunk or under the seat to change rims.

Both of these types of CD changers are available as original equipment and aftermarket upgrades.

In-Dash CD Changers

Some vehicles come with factory CD changers, but this type of head unit is also available on the aftermarket. This type of CD changer contains a built-in magazine completely located inside the head unit, so most of them conform to the double DIN form factor. They are relatively easy to use because you usually just burn one CD after another until the changer fills up.

The main advantages of in-dash CD changers are that they do not require additional wiring and there is no remote device for installation in the trunk or under the seat. This means they take up less space than remotely mounted CD changers and aftermarket units can usually be installed without too much trouble.

The main disadvantage of built-in CD changers is that they usually cannot hold as many CDs as an external unit.It is also generally more difficult to change which CDs you have in your device, as you have to eject them one at a time and then replace them one at a time. External blocks are usually easier to deal with and sometimes even allow for multiple logs.

CD changers with remote control

Some vehicles also come with factory-installed remote CD changers, but these are much more common in the aftermarket. If your car originally had a CD changer as an option, then you can add a factory unit or use an adapter to add a secondary unit. Otherwise, you are stuck in the aftermarket and have several different installation options.

Remote CD Changers can be installed in a variety of locations including the trunk, glove box and under the seat. These devices are not usually dashboard mounted due to their relatively large size, but there are some exceptions.

Depending on where the remote CD changer is installed, one of the drawbacks of this option is the level of difficulty associated with changing the installed CDs. If the changer is in the trunk, you can only change discs when the car is parked. However, the devices installed in the passenger compartment are much easier to work with.

Remote CD Changers generally hold more CDs than their in-dash counterparts, and many also support removable magazines. If the changer has a removable magazine, you can have multiple magazines, each filled with specific CDs, allowing you to quickly swap one set for another. Some remote CD changers allow multiple magazines to be installed at once.

Important Features of CD Changer

Some of the most important functions to look for in a CD changer are:

  • Impact Protection – This can help prevent disc skipping when driving over rough terrain. If you already have a CD player in your car, but it’s very old, then a new CD changer will usually make that department a lot better.
  • CD-RW compatible. Some older CD players are not able to play CDs created with a CD burner, even if you burn the disc as an audio CD instead of a data CD. Most of the newer CD changers are compatible with discs that you burn yourself at home.
  • Support for multiple audio codecs. Most of the newer CD changers are also capable of reading data discs recorded with songs in popular formats such as WMA, MP3, AAC and others.
  • Disc title is a useful feature as it allows your head unit to display the song title instead of the track number.

While these and other features are important for both CD changer and remote editing, usability, connectivity and compatibility are also important features to consider in the case of remotely connected devices. The only way to add a CD changer to a stock headunit is usually to find an OEM device, while cross-compatibility is a feature you’re more likely to find in the aftermarket.

Discs are spinning ..

Flagship models of CD changers

The BASIC criterion when choosing a CD changer is simple, it should be the same brand as the head unit. The overwhelming majority of models are incompatible with “foreign” radio tape recorders and CD-receivers.If there is a need to connect the changer to a non-standard or standard radio tape recorder, which the car was equipped with at the factory, then you can use the FM modulator. This device is a kind of prefix. It connects to a changer and generates a signal similar to that of a radio transmitter. Only the music is not broadcast on the air, but directly into the antenna input of the head unit, the FM modulator is connected to it with a wire. However, the use of this device should be considered a compromise: the sound quality will be lower than with a traditional CD-changer connection.

The flagship models are distinguished by very decent technical characteristics: the range of reproducible frequencies (not `already 5 20,000 Hz) and the signal-to-noise ratio (not less than 100 dB). And even if your hearing is not able to pick up such subtleties, such parameters in any case indicate the high quality of electronic circuits.

An important advantage of a first-class device is increased vibration resistance. The sound “does not get lost” on irregularities, up to off-road potholes. CD changer manufacturers achieve this in two ways. The mechanisms of the device are mounted on a special suspension with springs and even rubber or oil-silicone shock absorbers (depending on the model). On the part of the electronics, a special error correction system “monitors” the sound quality.

Today, any flagship CD changer plays not only regular discs, but also recordable and rewritable (CD-R / RW). Indeed, many music lovers prefer to independently edit and record collections of their favorite music on their computer. All models in the review are endowed with this function.

What does this mean ..

Terms requiring explanation

Tags ID3

Electronic information about an album, song, artist in mp3 files.

DAC

digital-to-analog converter: an electronic unit that converts a digital code into an acoustic signal.

CD-text

electronic information about the album, composition, artist. It is contained on some licensed CDs and is played on the display of the head unit.

CD-audio

Traditional recording format used in all CDs.

WMA

digital audio compression method similar to mp3 format.

“Alpine”

C D CH E N J E R “CHA-S634” holds six discs (additional magazine for six more can be purchased). It surpasses flagship models from other manufacturers in terms of the range of functions. In addition to traditional CDs and mp3 files, the device “reads” the WMA standard, which is a rarity for changers. In addition, the “CHA-S634” plays CD text and ID3 tags. The owners of “Alpine” multimedia centers have access to the “Touch Control Ready” touch control function. With its help, you can control the changer from the screen by pressing the virtual keys of the interactive menu.

“Clarion”

SIX-DISC Clarion “DCZ628” will interest primarily those who already have a first-class CD-receiver of “Hi-Fi” or even “Hi-End” level in their car. This changer has an additional digital optical output. If necessary, the signal through this output is fed directly to the head unit, bypassing its own digital-to-analog converter. And the DAC of an elite CD-receiver is a priori more perfect than the DAC of the changer itself.

Changer “DC628” practically does not differ from the above-described model, however, it has no optical output. But it can be purchased immediately in the “PAC423” set, which also includes a high-quality radio tape recorder “Clarion AX423R”. This option is suitable for buyers who do not want to bother with the selection of components and connectors.

“Clarion” products do not reproduce mp3 standards, let alone exotic WMA.

“JVC”

CHANGER “CH-X1500” holds 12 CDs, but at the same time it is no larger than many less capacious devices in size. It reproduces both CD-audio and mp3 formats equally expressively, reflecting CD-text and ID3 on the head display.

“Kenwood”

“KDC-CPS89” is designed for ten discs. This device is equipped with a line input, which is quite rare for CD-changers, through which you can connect another device to the system, say, put a DVD-changer next to it and not pull an additional wire from it to the “head”.Besides regular CDs, “Kenwood” plays CD-R / RWs. This device does not “read” the mp3 standard.

“Panasonic”

NOW Panasonic offers only one CD changer, so it can be considered a “flagship” conditionally. Compared to other top models, it is simpler. Slightly worse, for example, the signal-to-noise ratio, and there is no mp3 playback function. The eight-disc “CXDP880N” is good because it is very small, so it can be installed in the “glove compartment” or under the seat of a minicar, where not every CD changer will fit.

“Pioneer”

MODEL “CDX-P1270” has a 12-disc magazine. It has a full range of functions, up to the ability to play CD-text. Only the WMA standard is not “read”. This changer contains a new “Skip Play” technology: if one file is recorded with an error on a CD-R / RW disc, the device does not “hang” on it, but simply skips it.

“Sony”

“CDX-757MX” is an example of a non-standard attitude to design. Usually outwardly CD-changers look modest (after all, most of all they are hidden in the trunk, away from anyone’s eyes), however, the “ten-charge” of the Japanese company looks catchy and futuristic. The range of functions is extensive: in addition to ordinary discs, the changer plays mp3 files and even shows ID3 tags on the head display. Information about “compacts” is reflected in the form of CD-text.
