How to Cuff Your Pants

Cuffing your pant legs can bring style to almost any casual outfit and can perfectly accent your kicks. But there’s a method to a cuff, and it starts when you buy a pair of pants. Make sure to buy an inseam length that is one to two inches longer than your normal inseam, giving you plenty of space to make the cuff without turning your pants into capris.

Denim weights are also important to keep in mind. Denim weight refers to how much the fabric weighs per yard. So a pair of 12.5-ounce denim jeans is made from a material that weighs 12.5 ounces per yard. The heavier the weight, the thicker the material and the more durable. We recommend not going higher than 14.75 ounces when cuffing your pant leg (and that goes for duck canvas as well).

If you go upwards of that, the material doesn’t take the fold as readily and can bunch up. As for the cut of the pant, try to stay away from boot-cut or wider-cut styles. Although you can technically cuff any cut of pant, it works best with ones that are tapered.

There are many ways to cuff many pants, but four, in particular, should be staples of your cuffing quiver.

The Pinroll

The Pinroll works best with shoes that are slimmer and narrower, like a driving moc or Nike Roshe Runs. Stay away from the pinroll with boots or bulky sneakers with a thick sole.

Step 1: Take about an inch of fabric between your thumb and forefinger on the instep side of your pants so that the rest of the hem is snug against your ankle.
Step 2:

Fold the material towards you, against the leg, to create a diagonal line of material.
Step 3: Cuff the pant by making two folds of the hem. Make sure to smooth out the cuff as you make each fold.

The Simple Roll

The Simple Roll is likely the most versatile on our list. Good with almost any shoe, the simple roll works with most fabric types and weights.

Step 1: Take the hem of your pant and make one fold up about two inches.
Step 2: Smooth out the material to make a nice flat cuff.

Step 3: Take the top of the cuff and fold the hem in behind the back, towards the pant leg.
Step 3: Smooth out the cuff to create one uniform fold.

501 Original Shrink-to-Fit Jeans

The quintessential Levi’s 501 comes in all manner of shades, washes and distressing, but you could do no wrong going the old-school way with the straight-up rigid shrink-to-fit version. It gets better with every wear and every wash, which is really what blue jeans all about.

Straight Fit Stretch Jeans

The Stretch jeans feature zipper flies, suede back patches and oxidized rivets. They come in a range of indigo watches (from the dark Indigo Rinse to the light Beach Out) and both Slim and Straight silhouettes.

Slim-Fit Jeans

Uniqlo’s jeans are the cheapest well-made denim jeans you can get and they’ve also got a smidge of stretch for comfort straight off the shelf. They come in a variety of colorways, too, so you’re not just limited to the standard blue jean.

105 Standard Jeans

orSlow’s jeans have no overt branding, are based on classic jeans from the mid-1900s and are cut with custom-milled denim that would have anyone fooled into thinking you scored a pair of near-deadstock jeans that were hidden away in your grandparents’ attic.

The Skinny Roll

As its name implies, the Skinny Roll works best with tighter fitting jeans. Like the Pinroll, be sure to stay away from boots and wider-cut sneakers. Also, try to stay away from thicker fabrics, as they don’t fold as tightly and tend to bunch up.

Step 1: Take just the hemmed seam at the bottom of your pant leg and fold it up to create a thin, small cuff.
Step 2: Fold the cuff up again and smooth out the fold.
Step 3: Repeat step 2 until desired length is reached. (Don’t turn your pants into knickers.)

The Iron Worker

The Iron Worker is the perfect fold for long raw denim or heavyweight canvas pants. This fold looks great with boots and is best accompanied by a beard and a flannel.

Step 1: Take the hem of your pant and make a large cuff approximately four and a half to five inches in width.
Step 2: Smooth out the cuff. (Can also be ironed to create a perfect flat fold.)
Step 3: Repeat step two if desired, but never make more than two cuffs with the Iron Worker. Your pants should never be cuffed above your calf unless you are cycling.

The Definitive Guide to Cuffing, Rolling, and Stacking Your Jeans

Degree of Difficulty: 5

Looks Best With: Work Boots, Old School High-Tops.

How To Do It: The reason the oversized single cuff clocks in as our most difficult is because it simply doesn’t look good on most guys. Though this style lines the pages of Japanese magazines like Free & Easy, it channels a level of commitment to old school workwear most guys aren’t comfortable achieving in 2016. In other words, because it comes from the days when hard-working men cuffed their jeans out of necessity, not style, it looks best when worn alongside things like Red Wing boots, PF Flyers, denim shirts, chore jackets, and U.S. Navy-inspired beanies. (An oversized cuff would just look silly with some Yeezys.) Also, if you’re shorter than six feet tall or refuse to skip leg day, adding a four-or-five inch cuff to your jeans won’t do your stockiness any favors.

The Stack

Degree of Difficulty: 4

Looks Best With: Hyped-Up Running Sneakers, Timberland-Style Boots, Rock Star Boots.

How To Do It: Stacking one’s jeans used be perceived as sign of laziness, or at worst, a lack of style. But over the past few years, a slim stacked jean has become an insider’s shorthand for of-the-moment cool guy style. Now, a stack still only works with uber-slim denim, so if that’s not your speed it’s best to leave this to those who embrace a pencil-thin leg. Stacking can work with a minimalist pair of kicks like Common Projects, but it’s best suited for sneakers with a built-in sock-like upper (think Yeezys, Flyknits, etc.). A new-wave hip-hop move is to pair them with a pair of box-fresh Timbs, while thanks to high-end rock star-inspired brands like Saint Laurent, the skinny stacked jean has become as much a part of of the look as some slim-profile suede boots.

Which Women Should Wear Cuffed Pants?

Which women should wear pants with cuffs? Where can you get them? Reader E wonders…

I had a quick question about cuffed pants. When my boyfriend got a suit, he said that any nice men’s suit pants should be cuffed. I see that it does lay nicely over the foot that way. I don’t see many ladies cuffed pants at all though. Does it tend to go in and out of style? Do women ever have their tailors cuff their pants?

When I first read this, my immediate thought was NO CUFFS FOR ANYONE, EVER! BOO CUFFS!! <drops microphone, walks off stage>

But that may be a bit extreme. So I did a bit of research, and it turns out men still do wear cuffs on some pant legs, but it’s advised that you should only wear cuffs with pleated pants (unless they have very wide legs). As it turns out, I am also against pleated pants (for men and women), so I suppose it isn’t surprising that I’m against cuffs.

That said, here’s my case against cuffs for women: When a woman wears cuffed pants, the cuffs break the visual line you’re trying to create, and they make your legs look shorter and stumpier.  Furthermore, if they’re already cuffed when you buy them off the rack, it’s going to be that much more work for the tailor if you need to hem them.

There are a few times, though, where women should consider cuffs:

  • You’re very tall.  If you’re shorter than 5’9″, do not wear cuffs (unless you want your legs to look stumpy, in which case go right ahead).
  • You’re very tall and you’re wearing pants that are in such a fluid fabric that they need a cuff at the bottom to help weigh down the pant.
  • It’s Halloween.

Maybe I’m overly opinionated on this topic, though, as a short woman who came across nothing but cuffed pants when I started work in the late ’90s because they were trendy then.   As with all trends, they go through cycles, and maybe they’re on the upswing — I did find a number of cuffed pants from some big designers (pictured below).  What are your thoughts, readers — do you wear cuffed pants?  Have you ever asked a tailor to cuff your pants?

With what shirt should men wear them?

Men’s wardrobe is not as diverse as women’s wardrobe, the more attention is paid to the basic items of the image. These can be considered black trousers – a versatile, practical and incredibly comfortable thing.

These trousers are perfectly combined with other clothes, fit into an ensemble of any style, are good for different age categories. We can say that black trousers are an indispensable element, without which it is impossible to imagine a men’s wardrobe.

Model overview

Black men’s trousers today are presented not only by classic models, variations and styles are quite a lot, you can choose for every taste and style.

  • Classic. Perfectly complement the business, solemn image. Fastened with buttons, locks, have arrows. Classic models are chosen strictly according to the figure, taking into account the size, height. Short, baggy options are unacceptable.
  • Tapered. Pants like this are very popular, especially with slender men. The cut of such models is straight, but narrows to the bottom, equipped with pockets on the sides.It goes well with a jumper, T-shirt, sweater, shirt.

This is a versatile cut that will greatly enhance your everyday look.

  • Breeches. A very original version, the most comfortable and non-trivial. Spacious at the top, they taper towards the bottom, so they are suitable for most types of figures. However, older men should not get carried away with such trousers, it is mostly a youth model.
  • Slacks. An optimal model to replace the classic, straight, not too wide, not narrow, comfortable, slacks will ideally fit into a streetwear set for every day. They do not have arrows, but lapels are acceptable. Slacks are quite simple to combine with any clothing and footwear.
  • Bananas. The cut of these pants is loose, with elastic at the bottom. Youth model for everyday ensembles, walks, outdoor activities.
  • Cargo. These are cropped trousers, comfortable, spacious, with patch pockets. They look perfect in summer sets, complemented by T-shirts, T-shirts, jackets. Looks good in tandem with a wide type belt.
  • Narrow. Skinny is a great option for those who are not distinguished by high growth and large build. Optically, such a model will stretch the legs, make the proportions more correct, more harmonious. Combine them with a free top, it is not recommended to be tight from head to toe, even if the figure is perfect.Skinny is great in a duet with oversized sweaters, wide jackets, jumpers, layered sets. Brutal boots, sneakers, shoes are well suited to them.
  • American. These are jeans with a high waistline that fit quite tightly on the figure. They can be either straight or narrowed. They gained popularity back in the 90s, now they are experiencing the second peak of demand. Models with slots, scuffs, and non-trivial decor are very relevant.
  • Pants with stripes. Hit of the season, the emphasis is on the stripes on the sides of the legs, which are either a different color or a different texture. Previously, such models were exceptionally sporty, today you can find many everyday models with white and red stripes. They are worn with T-shirts, T-shirts, sneakers and sneakers.
  • Chinos. A very modern style, which, due to its versatility, practicality and convenience, suits almost any man. They are sewn from cotton with the addition of synthetic materials. Modern models are elastic, comfortable, and fit well. The cut may differ slightly in the degree of narrowing.

Stylists recommend wearing narrow options for men with a slender build.

  • Sports. Perhaps the most comfortable option, but you should wear them only when playing sports or during outdoor activities. The style of sports pants is universal, can be equipped with an elastic band at the bottom. The material is preferable natural, with a small amount of synthetic inclusions. It is very important here that air flows freely to the body, allowing it to breathe.
  • Slotted. This is a separate type of trousers, incredibly relevant in recent years. Torn knees or small slits fit well into a young man’s everyday ensemble. Very popular black jeans with a similar decor. Mature men should limit themselves to models with scuffs, without too open holes.
  • Wide. This trend has earned the love of customers due to its convenience and non-standard appearance. The width can be either quite restrained or extreme. The latter option is preferred by men who like to attract attention. Wide trousers fit well on any figure.

Black trousers are sewn from different fabrics – light for summer weather, dense for off-season and winter. The following materials are the most common:

  • wool – woolen options are most often classic, this fabric keeps its shape perfectly and looks neat, status;
  • denim – denim models are worn all year round, this is the most popular everyday type of trousers, you can choose both non-standard and traditional;
  • linen and cotton are a hit of summer seasons, linen trousers are light, comfortable, the same applies to cotton varieties, minus both fabrics – a wrinkled look;
  • knitwear – most often used for sewing home and sportswear, these are very comfortable models that do not restrict movement;
  • corduroy – corduroy trousers are very original, styles may differ, this is a dense fabric for off-season and winter;
  • leather is a trend that has already become a classic, such trousers are rather difficult to combine with other clothes, it is important to choose things so as not to look deliberately vulgar.

Plain trousers are the most versatile variety, but if you want to be the center of attention, you know how to combine things, then you can pay attention to printed models.

  • Striped. A classic print that can be either catchy, contrasting or slightly noticeable. The more pronounced the print, the more calm the top should be, otherwise there is a risk of looking pretentious and ridiculous. Limit yourself to two, maximum three shades when composing an image.
  • Plaid. This is a trend of the current fall, a print that has become a classic for a long time. You can choose a narrowed model and combine it with a jacket, sweater. Almost all types of cells are relevant, the main thing is to choose the right combination of shades. Combinations of black with red, purple, gray, yellow are in fashion.
  • Camouflage. Military print can be not only in khaki and brown shades, but also in black. This is a great option for outdoor activities, parties, walks.

How to choose?

When choosing trousers, regardless of whether they are branded or from the mass market, it is necessary to take into account the type of addition, height, weight, advantages and disadvantages of the figure, as well as the lifestyle, general style. Classic trousers should be selected strictly according to the figure, size, the fit is only permissible impeccable.

Ideal when one fold is formed on the shoe and the centimeter of the heel is visible. In no case should the trousers drag along the ground or even touch it.

Stylists recommend paying attention to the following nuances:

  • trousers should match the height, not bulge while sitting;
  • if the model is not cropped, the legs hide the socks;
  • it is good if there is a tape of a dense type on the bottom of the seamy side so that the edges do not fray;
  • do not skimp, the material and quality of tailoring determine how durable the purchase will be, cheap pants will very quickly lose their attractive appearance;
  • remember the size of the waist, a pair of fingers should go into the belt, otherwise you will be uncomfortable;
  • Tapered models can be slightly short, showing shoe lace-up;
  • loose fit and flared legs should be full, long, the more spacious the model, the longer the legs;
  • Cargo and trousers with cuffs visually shorten the legs.

What to wear with?

Black trousers especially for any man due to the fact that they are very easy to combine with other clothes. It is very important that the general style of the image is the same, things should not contradict each other. Black trousers are appropriate for almost any situation. Try to avoid too flashy, bright details, otherwise the composition will look gypsy. Simple accessories look much more profitable in a company with black pants of any style.

Rely on brevity, restraint, then the image will turn out to be more respectable.The harmonious combination of style and color will ensure the success of your outfit.

Stylists advise taking into account the following points:

  • classic models are ideal in tandem with a white or colored shirt, lilac, pink, blue are very good – all shades of pastel;
  • sweatpants are good with T-shirts, T-shirts, longs, sweatshirts;
  • in cold weather, trousers are worn with sweaters, jumpers, cardigans, turtlenecks, vests;
  • shoes should organically fit into the image, make up a single whole with it;
  • Cargo and denim trousers pair well with sports shoes;
  • classic is optimal with shoes;
  • summer models are worn with sneakers, sandals, espadrilles, slip-ons, moccasins;
  • sweatpants can only be combined with sneakers;
  • skinny and straight trousers are great in tandem with oxfords and derbies;
  • in a casual ensemble black trousers are good with loafers;
  • with regard to color, shoes are selected either tone-on-tone, or in contrast;
  • youth look allows for colored shoes – mustard, terracotta tone;
  • will perfectly complement your look with gray or brown shoes.

90,000 how to make cuffs at the bottom of trousers, fashion models 2021

Pants with cuffs look very stylish and modern. It is to them that we decided to devote this article.

Today, popular fabrics for trousers are jersey, linen, wool, cotton, tweed, thin jeans. Leather is also considered stylish.

Linen and cotton are classic natural fabrics. Trousers made of such materials allow the delicate female skin to breathe, have hygroscopic properties, and besides, they absolutely do not cause allergies and are as pleasant as possible to wear.At the same time, they allow the product to keep a clear shape and smoothen well. Mixed materials consisting of natural and synthetic fibers are the most dense and practically do not wrinkle.

Satin and chiffon are no less popular, trousers made of such materials can even show through in some places.

Fabrics with vertical lines emphasize the longitudinal lines of the trousers, however, a too wide strip will visually add volume, especially if the lines are of different shades.

Women’s trousers made of stretch fabrics perfectly fit the figure due to their elasticity. And that’s not all – such models are able to correct excess hips or waist.

If we talk about modern colors, then the choice must be made towards floral shades.

Despite the above, black remains in vogue due to its utility and sophistication. Any fashionista will be able to create a variety of color combinations and at the same time look very stylish.

Golden, powdery, ultramarine colors, as well as ocher and watercolor look elegant. Extremely washed out shades and achromatic palette – exactly what is popular in the season.

Stripes are still in vogue, but in medium sizes. Geometric patterns are in the first place now. The sophisticated lines of tropical vegetation and animal prints are also worth a look.

A small cell or pattern will look inconspicuous if the shades are not bright or the lines of the pattern are thin enough. A large cage or three-dimensional pattern looks more distinct and catchy, especially if the colors are opposite.

If you want to emphasize the figure, opt for a dark material, even to the detriment of the fact that certain elements will not be very visible.

Popular models of women’s trousers with cuff at the bottom

The lineup is quite extensive: from sports to classic, from knitted to chiffon.

  • Sports – perhaps the most common model today. It is worn both in sports training and at home.
  • Classic with false folds. They can be both tight and very wide. Models with folds at the waist are popular.
  • Shortened with cuffs. The length varies from the lower leg to the middle of the calf muscle. Often with arrows along the entire length or at the bottom.
  • With elastic at the bottom. The elastic can be covered with fabric or sewn on separately.These trousers should look delicate, so they should not be made from coarse fabrics.

How to make cuffs on women’s trousers?

It is quite easy to make cuffs on trousers, so a beginner can also cope with this task. For the elastic option, you will need a medium elastic and base fabric. First, measure the elastic to the required length and sew it. Then cut a piece 2 cm longer than the elastic and twice wider from the main fabric, and sew in the same way.Next, insert the elastic from the inside of the fabric, fold the fabric and sew to the leg, and overcast.

When creating false cuffs, iron the side seams and overcast the hem of the leg. Then lay the fabric on the wrong side along the fold line of the fold and sew along the seam line. Iron the hem on the inside, lay the folds on the front side along the basting line of the hem. Chop with needles across the cuffs and sweep near the fold through the entire thickness of the fabric.Slightly iron the cuffs from the front side.

What to wear with?

  1. Under no circumstances should you combine trousers with cuffs with classic jackets and vests. Therefore, it is necessary to select something unconventional.
  2. The style of some trousers on the cuffs is rather informal, hence the upper part of the outfit can be a little sloppy. And it is clothing made of lightweight knitwear that will perfectly fulfill such a task.
  3. It should be remembered that trousers with cuffs are considered to be quite conspicuous clothing and therefore, the upper part of the image should be chosen more restrained.
  4. A distinctive feature of trousers with cuffs – they add elegance to the image. If you want to add a little dynamism to the created image, then stop at a jumper with transverse lines and an asymmetrical neckline (with one open shoulder).
  5. The combination of trousers with folk motifs will allow you to get an unexpected, but very remarkable combination. Therefore, feel free to complement the outfit with a top with an embossed pattern and a scarf with floral prints.
  6. One of the main trends of the season is shocking. Therefore, calmly mix a loose T-shirt with trousers, and a shirt on top.

90,000 Tuxedo is the best choice for a wedding – Blog

Fashion, like any other sphere, does not stand still.Therefore, in recent years, even the immortal classics, fashion designers and couturiers are trying to replace with something more modern.

However, when it comes to a wedding, the groom’s tuxedo is still relevant. The main thing is to choose the right suit and balance the image with unique accessories.

A bit of history

Often, a tuxedo is indistinguishable from a tailcoat, although the two suits have a fundamentally different history. Surprisingly, for a long time the tuxedo was not at all a formal outfit.The fact is that a tuxedo (from the English smoke – to smoke) was originally a special robe that men put on over a business suit, retiring to the smoking room, in order to protect the expensive fabric from tobacco smoke. Edward VII, Prince of Wales, who first wore it for publication in 1865, contributed to the formalization of the tuxedo. And already in 1886, the tuxedo became a popular formal attire in America thanks to the millionaire James Brown Potter. True, due to the fact that the man first appeared in him at the New York club Tuxedo, the tuxedo began to be called the taxido.The introduction of the new term finally secured the status of a privileged suit for the tuxedo. In addition, the tuxedo was much more comfortable than a bulky tailcoat, so it quickly took root as an outfit for social events.

Tuxedo today

The end of the twentieth century marked a change in formal attire, and the tuxedo began to combine unusual colors. Although strict adherence to the dress code has not disappeared anywhere. Indeed, despite the long history of the existence of this suit and the constantly updated collections, a black or dark blue tuxedo is considered the most profitable option.For the groom, this is especially true, since it will be easier to combine costumes in classic colors with the bride’s dress. Light shades are very rare and not suitable for everyone.

How to choose a tuxedo for the groom

Of course, this kind of suit requires responsibility.For example, an upright posture is one of the main conditions for wearing a tuxedo, so the groom should at least practice wearing it correctly. But beyond that, there are nuances that effortlessly make a tuxedo ideal for a wedding. When choosing a tuxedo, you need to pay attention to the fact that it is single-breasted, then the suit will slim the figure, while maintaining masculinity. The length of the jacket should be about slightly above mid-thigh, which also gives the figure a special stateliness. Trousers can be narrowed with thin stripes, but, as a rule, they choose classic straight cut options, the length of which reaches the middle of the heel of the shoes.Pants gather a little in the front, which gives the image a natural look. An important rule for the lower part of the suit is that you cannot wear a belt; the pants should fit well on their own.

To look harmonious, it is important to pay attention to the tuxedo accessories. So, it is best to opt for a white satin shirt with cuffs for cufflinks, which are an equally important accessory in a suit. This will make the image of the groom even more elegant and solemn.

Only a butterfly is suitable for a tuxedo, usually in black or white. By the way, it was the color of the butterfly that gave the names to the official black tie and white tie dress codes. The only difference is their severity. White tie is accepted, for example, at a reception with the Queen or at the presentation of a prestigious award. Black tie is appropriate for a wedding.

Another interesting tuxedo attribute is the cummerbund. As wearing a vest under a jacket has become obsolete, it has been replaced by a wide belt that elegantly hides the line between the trousers and the shirt. The choice can be made both in favor of neutral tones of the camerband – for example, dark burgundy or blue, and in favor of unusual colors that will make the image more memorable – this is soft blue, pink or red.

Thus, a tuxedo in combination with well-chosen accessories remains a universal solution for a wedding today. And no new types of suits will make you change the sophisticated classics.
