90,000 How to choose a jumpsuit for a child?
How to choose the right overalls for a child so that he is comfortable in it, not hot or cold? What outer fabric should be used for the overalls, what lining and insulation, if we are talking about the winter version. In this article, we will tell you what to look for when choosing a baby jumpsuit.
Depending on the season, overalls are divided into winter, demi-season (autumn-spring) and summer (sandpipers, bodysuits).Winter overalls should be warm and lightweight. All fabrics from which baby overalls are made must be hypoallergenic and harmless.
Demi-season overalls are very often equipped with a detachable liner that can be left at home on warmer days. Summer overalls are made from knitted and cotton fabrics. Sandpipers and bodysuits are designed for babies under 1 year old, so they should be sewn so as not to cause inconvenience to the child.
The outer fabric of winter and demi-season overalls must be breathable and water-repellent. The seams of the top cover must be glued. The most common topcoat materials for baby rompers are polyamide, cordura, nylon polyester and bologna.
These fabrics are impregnated with a special water-repellent compound, which makes them waterproof. However, this fabric becomes airtight. Overalls from Bologna are not recommended for toddlers and preschool children, as it is considered not hygienic.
Nylon, cotton and fleece are used as lining for children’s overalls. Fleece is a synthetic wool that does not absorb moisture and is a good heat conductor. In addition, the fleece provides ventilation and removes condensation.
Nylon or polyamide is a man-made fiber that is ideal for overalls. Nylon or polyamide are lightweight, breathable fabrics that hold their shape and dry quickly.
Polyester, polyester and lavsan are polyester fibers. They are also breathable, keep their shape and do not require special maintenance. However, polyester is inferior to nylon in quality.
It should be remembered that you cannot buy overalls with a synthetic lining for babies under 2 years old. Natural materials such as cotton and wool on a knitted basis are harmless and hypoallergenic, therefore they are ideal for lining children’s overalls. However, natural wool can cause an allergenic reaction in a child.
Heaters are natural and artificial. Artificial insulation includes synthetic winterizer, which is considered to be durable and retain its shape. However, it is not suitable for a cold winter.
The most popular insulation is considered to be artificial down, which retains heat well and does not absorb moisture, thus retaining its thermal insulating properties even when wet. Artificial down is a harmless, environmentally friendly, hypoallergenic material.
Other synthetic insulation materials are also known, which are made from fibers in the form of balls, spirals and springs. The shape of the fibers allows air to pass through the existing cavities. Such heaters retain their volume, do not absorb moisture and keep their shape.
However, children prefer natural insulation, although some of them may cause child allergies. The most popular natural insulation is goose down, which is lightweight, has good thermal insulation characteristics and is durable.
However, goose down is an allergenic material and takes a long time to dry. A child in a goose down overalls can get hot at temperatures above -15 if he is very active.
Wool or sheepskin is a durable, high quality hypoallergenic material. Wool keeps warm well, but is a heavy material, so overalls with such insulation are made mainly for children under the age of 1 year.
The membrane is a thin film that is glued to the upper fabric of the overalls. Also, a membrane is called a protective impregnation, which is applied to the upper fabric of the overalls. The membrane is waterproof.
Membrane overalls maintain a normal body temperature of the child in any weather. However, if an ice crust forms on the overalls, the membrane loses all its properties. Therefore, it is not recommended for children to choose overalls on only one membrane.
For a child up to six months, a jumpsuit in the form of a bag with sleeves would be an ideal option. However, it is not suitable for older children. Therefore, a more practical option would be a transformer jumpsuit, which, by means of riveting at the bottom, turns from a bag into a regular jumpsuit.
For half-year-olds, choose one-piece overalls with two zippers, which make it easier to dress and undress the child. It is good if mittens and booties are included with the jumpsuit. On the hood of the baby’s overalls, there should be ties that allow you to adjust it to fit the head.
For a child who has already learned to walk, choose a jumpsuit with protective elastic bands on the sleeves and legs. It is also advisable that an elastic band runs along the waistline of the overalls, which protects the child’s body from blowing the wind.
For children over the age of 1.5 years, you can buy both one-piece and semi-overalls. Semi-overalls are pants with straps, which are adjustable depending on the height of the child, and a jacket. For children over 5 years old, separate overalls are suitable, which are sets with insulated pants.
When choosing overalls for a six-month-old baby, pay attention to the presence of a special strip that covers the zippers and protects from the wind. The collar of the jumpsuit should cover the baby’s neck. The lining of the overalls must be made of natural materials: wool or down.
Demi-season overalls for a child must be resistant to cold, moisture and wind. Such overalls are made of rubberized fabric or a water-repellent membrane. The lining of a mid-season jumpsuit should be made of natural materials that conserve heat and allow the body to breathe.
Baby bodysuits are a kind of summer overalls. They are easy and convenient to put on and take off from the child. Bodysuits for children do not open and fit snugly to the body, but do not leave marks on the baby’s skin. Baby bodysuits are available with short and long sleeves.
The body completely covers the entire body of the child and does not move out, thus protecting the delicate skin of the baby. Summer baby bodysuits are made of cotton or pure silk. These fabrics are breathable and hypoallergenic.
Changing bodysuit is an overalls for a newborn baby with a front or side closure along the entire length. Such a bodysuit is easy to put on and take off from the baby, without causing him inconvenience. The changing body is the most convenient option for newborns up to 3 months.
Bodysuits with buttons located on the shoulders are also comfortable. This arrangement of fasteners ensures a snug fit of the bodysuit to the baby’s neck. The closed-necked bodysuit is great for walking in cool weather.
An inconvenient model is a baby bodysuit with a back closure. It is advisable to choose such bodysuits for children who have already learned how to sit and walk on their own. Bodysuits with a wrap are comfortable for quick changing of the baby’s clothes. However, strings can be inconvenient for a child.
Another type of children’s summer overalls is a sandpiper. The sandpiper differs from the bodysuit in that its lower part consists of short pants. The sandpiper is perfect for walking with a child in warm weather.
Sandboxes for children are made only from natural breathable fabrics. Sandpiper clasps can be located in the front, side and back, which makes it easy and quick to change your baby’s clothes. The cut of the sandpiper does not restrict the movements of the child and does not cause inconvenience when moving.
When choosing an overalls, pay attention to the tags sewn into its inner seams.Check what material the jumpsuit is made of, its lining and insulation, if any. The name of the insulation must be clearly spelled out on the label. Also, the tag should indicate the composition of the fabrics used in the manufacture of the overalls.
If you do not understand the names of the fabrics, contact the sales consultant who should tell you about them. Also ask the seller by what technology the insulation or lining is made. High-quality overalls are accompanied by special books indicating the qualities and properties of all materials used.
If a synthetic filler is indicated on the label, pay attention to the indicator of the permissible temperature that it can withstand. Typically this pointer ranges from -10 to -40 degrees. When choosing a jumpsuit, remember that the lighter the fibers of the synthetic filler, the lower the temperature at which it can be used.
When choosing a transforming overalls, give preference to those with zippers on the sides to make it easier to change your baby’s clothes. The design of the transformer jumpsuit should cover all parts of the child’s body and fit snugly against it.
When choosing a jumpsuit, remember that your baby should be comfortable in it not only in a calm position, but also during activity. The child should feel comfortable during the entire walk, which can last for hours.
Overalls must be appropriate for the child’s height and age. Overalls for newborns should be easy to put on and take off, and models for older children should not restrict their movements.Comfortable overalls with adjustable straps that can be pulled up to fit the baby’s height.
When choosing a jumpsuit, be sure to check all fasteners, zippers and buttons for functionality. They should be easy to zip up and open without snagging. Wide-link plastic zippers on overalls are preferred as they will not rust and are durable.
The liner and liner must be easy to attach to and remove from the overalls. The materials from which the overalls are made must not only be of high quality, but also suitable for cleaning or washing.
Tips for caring for your baby’s overalls
Baby clothes get dirty quickly, so they have to be cleaned or washed frequently. Do not soak overalls for a long time, especially winter ones, as the lining material can deteriorate, and the thing itself can sit down and lose its shape.
Overalls can only be washed by hand at a temperature of 30 degrees. Do not use bleach or softener during washing. After washing, winter and demi-season overalls must be thoroughly rinsed many times, since synthetic and natural lining materials and insulation strongly absorb detergents.
You can dry baby overalls only horizontally, spreading it out on a towel or fabric so that it does not shrink or deform. Whisk the overalls frequently while drying. You can dry your overalls for no more than 2 days. Do not dry the overalls with a battery.
You can also dry baby overalls on a special dryer that can be installed directly in the bathtub so that the water flows into the basin. When all the water has drained off, the dryer can be moved into the room by placing a towel or cloth under the overalls so that it dries thoroughly.Overalls must not be ironed or machine dried.
Overalls on the membrane are washed using special detergents. Such overalls can be machine washed only in the hand wash mode at a temperature of 30 degrees without soaking. After washing, the membrane overalls must be carefully wrung out by hand. Do not twist the jumpsuit during spinning so that it does not deform.
A fleece and nylon lined overalls require special care. These fabrics can be washed both by hand and in a washing machine in a delicate or gentle wash at a temperature not exceeding 40 degrees.Do not iron or tumble dry. Fleece and nylon dry quickly and do not lose their shape.
An overalls with a lining of artificial down can be washed frequently, as repeated washing does not affect its properties and qualities. After cleaning, the non-woven structure of artificial fluff regains its volume, lightness and thermal insulation properties.
Overalls with a water-repellent coating can simply be wiped with a damp cloth as it gets dirty, and then left to dry for several hours. It is also not recommended to use detergents for wet cleaning of children’s overalls, as they contain chemicals that are harmful to the child and can cause allergies.
We wish you a good choice!

90,000 What fabrics and materials are used for making children’s clothes?
10 main types of fabrics that are used in the production of children’s clothing. Characteristics and care guidelines to ensure the items will last you and your family as long as possible.
Cotton baby clothes
Cotton is the most popular material in the production of children’s clothing. Cotton fabric is natural, hypoallergenic, it absorbs moisture well and, most importantly, is soft, does not irritate the delicate skin of the child, therefore, when choosing clothes for a baby, you can find things made from both 100% cotton and fabrics based on it.
How to take care of?
Wash at a temperature of 40-60 degrees, colored clothes – without bleach, be sure to iron things (steam treatment softens the seams that can irritate the delicate skin of the child), it is also important to remember that after the first wash cotton clothes usually “shrink” by 10 -15%.
Children’s clothes from the culinary surface
Culinary smoothness is considered one of the thinnest, lightest, “airy” fabrics based on cotton fiber. Ideal for summer clothes and lingerie (undershirts, T-shirts, panties). Some manufacturers add lycra to the fiber to make the material more elastic.
How to take care of?
You can adhere to the general recommendations for the care of their cotton items.
Children’s clothing from a footer
Another cotton fiber fabric.Unlike a footer, a footer is a thick, warm fabric; things from a footer may have a fleece on the back. The footer is used when sewing insulated sliders, bodysuits, hats, pants, overalls.
How to take care of?
Footer clothes are best washed on the delicate cycle or by hand. A thick footer is washed at a temperature of 40-60 degrees, and a thin one – up to 30 degrees. It is impossible to boil, at a high temperature, colored fabric can shed. The footer does not fade in the sun.
Children’s clothing made of interlock or double-plastic
The name may give the impression that it is a synthetic fabric. But no – the interlock is 100% cotton. Interlock is an intermediate option between the footer and the culinary surface, things made of double-laminated fabric are smooth, “silky”, but warm enough (in terms of the density of the fabric, the interlock is not inferior to the footer). The fabric practically does not stretch and does not unravel, things made of two-plastic with proper care can last a very long time.It is used to produce dense children’s overalls, semi-overalls, jumpers, blouses, and pants.
How to take care of?
Wash at temperatures up to 40 degrees in a delicate cycle or by hand. Without bleaches, wring out in a gentle mode, you can iron children’s clothes from interlock, but only from the seamy side at a low temperature. Dry in the fresh air (no sunlight). After the first wash, the clothes may become a little “hooked”.
Children’s clothes from terry
Terry cloth is made from cotton or, less often, flax, is somewhat similar to a footer, only the clothes of their terry cloth have a lush and longer pile, due to which it absorbs moisture better.Terry fleece jumpsuit with a thin knitted lining will perfectly protect your baby in cold weather.
How to take care of?
It is better to use not powders, which penetrate deeply into the fabric and are poorly washed off (after several washings, the clothes will lose their “velvety” and will be tough), but liquid cleaning agents. In any case, it is important to rinse terry items thoroughly (two or three rinses in the washing machine or additionally by hand). To keep it soft, add a conditioner (special for baby clothes). It is impossible to iron clothes from terry cloth, only gently steam them if necessary. You can air dry, but if things hang for too long, they can again become stiff.
Children’s clothing from velsoft
Velsoft (microfiber) is made from polyamide (synthetic fiber), but its properties are not inferior to natural fabrics. Velsoft clothing, although it looks like a thick linen with a nap (this is similar to terry cloth clothing), is very light, soft, reliable, durable. For children, overalls, sweaters, pants, hats for autumn and winter are sewn from this material.
How to take care of?
We recommend gentle washing by hand or in a washing machine at temperatures up to 30 degrees. Microfiber does not fade if you use regular baby powder (avoid bleach and chlorine products when washing any baby clothes). There is no need to iron things from the velsoft, if necessary, steam them.
Velsoft set 1832-23 Paddle set 1814-23 Terry cloth set 1705-16
Children’s clothing made of velor
Another kind of warm pile fabric.Velor is made from either cotton or wool. Velor fabric is incredibly strong and durable, velor clothes do not lose their appearance even after several years of use. Often a little synthetic fiber (polyester or viscose) is added to the fabric (not in the pile), the fabric turns out to be more elastic, things do not stretch on the knees and elbows. Velor is used to produce both underwear for children (romper, slip-ons, sweaters) and warm street overalls (as a rule, they come with a soft lining of 100% cotton).
How to take care of?
We recommend a gentle wash at temperatures up to 30 degrees. Do not soak things, wash them immediately (any product is suitable for children’s things). After washing, you should not wring out the clothes, dry them in the fresh air without access to sunlight (you cannot dry velor on a battery). With a delicate wash, velor does not wrinkle or wrinkle, so ironing is usually not required. In extreme cases, at a low temperature, iron things from the inside, and it is better to use steam at all, which “straightens out” the villi well.
Children’s clothing from fleece
Fleece is a knitted polyester fabric that resembles sheep’s wool in appearance. Fleece fabric can be fleeced on one or two sides. Children’s fleece clothes are well ventilated, they are elastic and lightweight, but it is not recommended to put them on the baby on a naked body, as they can become electrified. Fleece jumpsuits are great for walking outdoors during the cooler season.
How to take care of?
Washing at a temperature of 30-40 degrees, do not use bleaches and conditioners (they destroy the water-repellent properties of clothes). Before washing, it is better to turn things inside out and close the zippers (if any). Dry in the fresh air, not on a battery. The fleece cannot be ironed. Velor envelope 0232-15 Velor envelope Naughty Fleece overalls KBF-5
Children’s clothes made of ribana or rubber
Ribana (eraser) resembles a “knitted elastic”. It is made of cotton (allows the baby’s skin to breathe), often with the addition of Lycra (stretches well). Undershirts, sliders, T-shirts are sewn from 100% cotton ribana, and hats, blouses, dresses are made from fabric with the addition of lycra. In general, it can be noted that ribana most of all resembles a culinary surface (in terms of density and its properties), but it costs a little more.
How to take care of?
Wash in any mode at temperatures up to 30 degrees, do not wring out by hand, dry in the fresh air, but avoid exposure to sunlight. Ribana baby clothes can be ironed.

Children’s T-shirts, bodysuits, turtlenecks, hats are sewn from this fabric.

Which winter insulation for a child is better
First, find out how severe frosts are possible in your area. The degree of density of the insulation fibers will depend on this. The higher the number on the overalls tag, the denser and warmer the inner layer:
40–70 gsm. – cool autumn or spring down to -15 ° C
100-150 g / sq.m. – cold autumn, warm winter down to -25 ° C
200-300 g / m2. – frosty winters down to -55 ° C
Please note: the frost resistance of the insulation is designed for a person who does not move, in other words, for a baby. The number of layers of underwear should be selected empirically, there should be at least two of them: an underwear layer and a thin underwear. The colder the weather and the longer the walk, the more likely you will need another layer: wool, knit, or fleece jumpsuit.
If a child is already walking and running, he may sweat in an overalls with too thick insulation – you yourself understand, this is harmful. The problem is solved by reducing the layers and thickness of the clothes worn under the overalls.
Everything that comes into contact with the baby’s skin must be environmentally friendly and not cause allergies.Modern artificial materials do an excellent job with this task and will definitely not harm. Pay attention to these hypoallergenic insulation materials for baby clothes:
Then just choose the clothes you like visually and functionally by reading the information about the name of the insulation, its density and temperature conditions on the label.
It is important to carefully consider the selection of normal clothes for the baby. Go shopping together safely, put together a basic baby wardrobe for your child, get rid of bad things, add accessories.
