Two Original Klipsch Cornwall II Speakers (from 1963, w/ rare factory original Oiled Walnut veneer & Cane grills)

For the last 60+ years Klipsch has been one of the top loudspeaker manufacturers in the world. Their success is undoubtedly attributed to their devotion and adherence to the principals company founder Paul W. Klipsch instilled into his company in the early 40’s.

Paul Klipsch is one of the founding fathers of Hi-fidelity, his contributions to speaker design and audio technology as a whole still serve as the cornerstone of the entire audio industry. In fact it is no coincidence that the term High-Fidelity was coined about the same time he started producing his legendary speaker systems. His 1946 invention of the Klipschorn speaker system was the world’s first true High-Fidelity system. It was the first time a speaker was able to reproduce the entire frequency range with unerring fidelity in a home setting.

Paul Klipsch was a verifiable genius who holds patents in the fields of geophysics, ballistics and acoustics. His contributions to the world of audio have not gone unnoticed; he received the Audio Engineering Society’s highest honor, the prestigious Silver Medal, for his contributions to speaker design and distortion measurement. He was inducted into several “Hall of Fames”, including the Science & Industry Hall of Fame with the likes of Alfred Einstein, the Audio Hall of Fame, the Consumer Electronics Hall of fame, and the Engineering and Science Hall of Fame, an honor shared by Thomas Edison, George Washington Carver and the Wright brothers. Additionally, the New Mexico State University engineering department was renamed the Klipsch School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, in honor of Paul W. Klipsch who graduated from NMSU in 1926.

The Klipsch Cornwall is hands down one of the most memorable and well-liked speaker systems in existence. Originally released in 1959 with a production run until 1990, they have undoubtedly left their mark on the world of audio. The demand for the Cornwall system was so great Klipsch re-released the Mk III incarnation of this system, which is currently available for a $4,400.00 price tag for a pair.

More than any other, Cornwall owners are extremely devout to their speaker of choice, and after one audition it is easy to see why. The Cornwall conveys music in typical Klipsch fashion, hard-hitting, full-force, widely dynamic, and incredibly pleasant-sounding. Whether positioned in the corner or along a wall bass response is deep and detailed. Mid and high frequency ranges are also cleanly and accurately depicted with the assertiveness that is unique to horn speakers. Horn loaded drivers present the power, emotion, and true dynamics of music; this is a quality that the usual direct radiator speakers cannot replicate. Additionally, the Cornwall is very efficient, allowing you to reach concert level sound with a relatively small amount of power. One watt of power will produce a staggering 98.5 dB of undistorted high-quality sound.

This particular pair of Cornwall speakers have some unique factory variations, that together make them rare. these include;

Cornwall Verticals: Speakers have what is known as the vertical driver alignment. This is a factory original variation that allows for speaker placement on their sides, as well as normal positioning.

Cane Grilles: Klipsch used cloth & cane style grilles, though the cane grilles were a rarer variation

1963 Build Date: these speakers are the 264th set manufactured in 1963. Built during the golden era of Klipsch! Contains Alnico drivers, metal horns, Void-free birch plywood construction, fixed grilles

K-77 High Frequency Driver/Horn: This is the original EV manufactured version of the famed compression driver /horn tweeter used in generations of Klipsch and Electro- Voice speaker systems. It gives you vivid, sparkling high frequency detail beyond the range of audibility. You hear a sharply focused, lifelike stereo image. Dynamic range is breathtaking. Distortion is nowhere to be heard. Additionally this has the large Alnico magnet with grey finish and polished horn.

K-55-V Alnico Mid Range Driver/K600 Metal Horn : Original Atlas produced Alnico Driver.. Midrange frequencies are the most critical to your enjoyment of music. In the Cornwall, these frequencies are capably handled by a powerful, smooth sounding compression driver/horn assembly. This midrange driver assists the Cornwall, in delivering an amazing 98.5 decibels of sound pressure when operating on just one watt of input power. This results in awesome dynamic range and distortion free response

K-33-J Woofer: Klipsch utilized many different brand woofers in the Cornwall system, though the “J” version very well may be the most famous. It was manufactured by Jensen and is a slightly modified P15LL. The P15LL has been used in many of the great golden era Jensen speaker systems as well as the bass foundation of the Leslie speaker that revolutionized the Hammond organ sound. It provides incredibly detailed, full-bodied bass that is not only heard but felt!

Type 2-R Crossover: The passive crossover network of the Cornwall is a vital component to the overall performance of the system and is a classic example of the KLIPSCH dedication to engineering excellence. This network takes incoming electrical information and assigns it to the proper driver to achieve the smoothest frequency response.

90,000 English Cornwall has turned from an underestimated region into a prestigious place

Cornwall is located in the extreme south-west of England on a peninsula washed by the English Channel and the Atlantic Ocean (more precisely, the Celtic Sea). The climate in Cornwall is the most pleasant and sunniest in the UK thanks to the influence of the Gulf Stream. The sun shines more than 1500 hours a year. Winters are the mildest in the country, frosts are extremely rare. However, the northern part of Cornwall is different from the southern one, the north is open to winds, and therefore the climate there is more severe.

“This is the first time we have come to Cornwall for a summer vacation with our young children. At that time I was a police officer, then I left my job, and we finally moved to the south-west of England, – says 52-year-old Robert. – Now we live near the sea, there is fresh air and fresh seafood. I live just a few miles from Truro, the area is full of history. Falmouth Harbor is 5 miles away, which is very close. It’s never too cold here. But it’s worth remembering that Cornwall juts out into the Atlantic and we have storms during the winter months. ”

It’s not just the climate that sets Cornwall apart from the rest of the UK. The land is rich in legends. Here is Tintagel, where, according to legend, the main character of British mythology, King Arthur, was born. The Corners, the indigenous people of Cornwall, are one of six Celtic nationalities along with the Bretons, Irish, and Fr. Maine, Scots and Welsh. They also have their own language. “Cornwall has the strongest regional identity in the UK,” said John Prescott, deputy prime minister from 1997-2007.He is echoed by David Cameron, current prime minister: “I think the Cornish national identity is very powerful – people feel a strong kinship with the region.” A couple of years ago, rumors began to circulate about the possible separation of Cornwall from the UK, but the referendum, as it was in Scotland, did not reach.

An influx of wealthy Londoners

There are few foreign property buyers in Cornwall. Most of those who purchase properties over 2 million pounds here are residents of London and South East England. Many of them are business owners and professionals from various fields, such as lawyers or accountants.

In the 1990s. Cornwall was popular mainly with retirees who decided to move from the counties adjacent to London to a quieter place. Since the late 1990s, English summer residents have become predominant among buyers of real estate – buyers of second homes for vacations. Recently, a third type of buyers has appeared – these are families from London who are moving to Cornwall for good because of the too high prices for capital real estate (in Cornwall it is half the price).

By British standards, the route from London to Cornwall – a little less than 500 km – is considered a long way. It takes 5 hours by car from Falmouth to Central London. The train journey takes about the same. In addition, planes depart twice a day from metropolitan Gatwick to Cornwall’s Newquay Airport.

According to the Financial Times, over the past 20 years, southern Cornwall has grown from an undervalued region to a prestigious location. In 1994 g.this part of the UK was famous for poor transport links and unemployment at 11.5%. Homes here cost £ 55,200, according to the Land Registry, compared to the national average of £ 68,032. Currently, properties in the vibrant university town of Falmouth, where superyachts are being built, cost an average of £ 285,000, far more than England and Wales (£ 172,069).

Russians’ preferences are changing

Latvia has disappeared from the top ten countries most demanded by Russian buyers of real estate, according to Tranio.com (a year ago, the country was in 4th place). Demand also fell in Estonia and Finland.
On the other hand, the popularity of the Czech Republic has grown noticeably, especially of apartments for rent. The dynamics of Wordstat (Yandex) impressions also indicates an increase in the number of requests for real estate in Turkey and France, where it has fallen in price.
The average application budget for Tranio.com in Q1 2015 was € 129,500. A year earlier, Russians were willing to spend an average of 125,000 euros.

According to the Independent, Cornwall has the largest number of second homes in the UK (about 23,000).Indigenous Cornish people dislike visitors – they are called here by the slang word grockles, which roughly translates as “come in large numbers.” Especially those who come from London, buy up all the most expensive real estate and thereby inflate housing prices.

David, 73, a Yorkshire native who has lived in Cornwall for over 40 years, says: “It’s a good place to live, but not very good when it comes to salaries — they are low. Indigenous Cornish people dislike the rich who buy second homes, as this raises house prices and deprives Cornish of the opportunity to buy real estate in their native villages.Prices have risen significantly, and people with regular salaries cannot even afford a mortgage. ” This is also the opinion of 54-year-old Peter, a local chef of one of the coastal restaurants: “Cornwall is a great place in the summer when the weather is great and the beaches are wonderful. However, it is an expensive place and unemployment is high. People come to us from London and Surrey, usually for two weeks a year, they have second homes here. They are doing nothing for the local economy and behaving inappropriately. “

Londoners have flooded the idyllic seaside resort of St. Ives with a permanent population of 11,000. He was even given the nickname “Kensington-on-Sea” due to the abundance of metropolitan residents in the summer. Although there are many vacationers even in November. Secondary houses are here about 25% of the total housing stock. Londoners are actively buying up cottages, in which fishermen and artists used to live. Local residents fear most of all that people will live here only in the summer, and for the rest of the time St. Ives will turn into a ghost town and schools will have to be closed. Some worry that trades (in particular, fishing) have left the town and the whole city is flooded with the rental business. In November 2014, local authorities even offered to prohibit newcomers from buying second homes here. For a start, it is planned to impose such a ban on new buildings. However, the law has not yet entered into force.

In the spring of 2014, Lloyds Bank published a study of the UK cities with the highest property prices in relation to average wages. The third place was taken by Mr.Truro, the capital city of Cornwall, is the southernmost city in the UK with city status. Only Oxford and Winchester surpassed it in terms of cost. There are good private schools in the vicinity of Truro (for example, Polwhele House and Truro High School), so it is often chosen by those who are going to move to Cornwall permanently.

According to a study by the UK National Housing Federation, buying a house in Cornwall is even more expensive than in London when we compare prices to the average salary in the capital: £ 223,046, which is 12.6 times the average earnings in the region (17 633 lbs).In London, prices are 10 times higher than wages. As a result, many Indigenous Cornish people have been renting houses and apartments for decades without being able to become owners.

Prestigious and expensive

According to TripAdvisor, Cornwall was named the most expensive holiday region in the UK last year. It was ahead of popular destinations such as Dorset and Devon. Weekly rentals in Cornwall cost an average of £ 854.

According to the British website Zoopla, the most expensive places in the county to buy property are Padstow with an average price tag of £ 376,000, Fowey with an average price of £ 373,000, as well as Port Isack, Wauderbridge, St Agnes, St Ives, Truro, Falmouth, Marazion and Lostwithiel, where houses and apartments sell for an average of £ 282,000-376,000.

“Cornwall is a wonderful place, I have lived here for 20 years,” says Richard, 58, from Perranport, 11 km from Truro, where Richard himself has the most beautiful sunsets in the world. – Exclusive locations include Padstow, on the north coast, famous for its restaurants by chef Rick Stein, and the nearby village of Rock, which is a popular destination for royalty. St Ives further west is an amazing place, and towns like Falmouth and St Mos are the most expensive to buy real estate. “

The most prestigious is the southern coast, called the Cornwall Riviera. A strip along the sea, about 80 km long, between Lizard in the west and Fowey in the east, is famous for its beaches and attractive seaports. Life in southern Cornwall is inextricably linked to the sea. It is this that attracts people here. It is no coincidence that the best properties are located right next to beaches, marinas or yacht clubs.

“The most expensive and prestigious place to live is Saint Mos,” says Robert, who lives near Truro.- You need a lot of money to live here. My mother-in-law sold her home in St. Mos for £ 1 million and moved to Hampshire. ”

In one of the villages by the sea in the summer of last year, a house with an area of more than 800 sq. m with seven bedrooms for 4 million pounds – this is one of the most expensive mansions here. The house included a marina and a boat shed. For 750,000 pounds in Cornwall, you can buy a house not near the sea, but with a plot and five bedrooms, for 1.5 million – a house with a plot and five bedrooms next to Falmouth.

The supply of high-quality and expensive real estate in Cornwall is limited, which further warms up the ardor of buyers who are not deprived of funds. Despite the interest from wealthy individuals, prices for local real estate, according to Knight Frank, are still 5-10% below their peak in 2007.

Bernard Cornwell “Agincourt”

I wanted a serious historical novel – I came across B. Cornwell. According to reviews – a classic, “the greatest master of the historical adventure genre”, as they write about him in the preface, a monumental figure.

Complete disappointment.

That an adventure book is for sure. But it is difficult to attribute it to a historical work. Rather, it is closer to fantasy.

In general, the general impression is that the author is a teenager. And he writes for the same age group. Everything is so naive, primitive.

The main character is an ordinary English archer Nicholas Hook.

But, for the author, he is not just an archer. He is an Archer. No, not even ARCHER. O! How a writer deifies this branch of the army! No, archers, this is not just a militia, or cheap mercenaries, peasants, who they were.Gathering a knightly cavalry army is difficult and expensive. Vassals riot, elite foreign mercenaries are greedy. And, driving the commoners away is cheap and profitable. They don’t need armor and expensive weapons. I cut a stick in the forest, bent it into a bow – and so it will do! Well, they will defeat this army – it’s not a pity. This is what “vaunted English archers” really are. But, the writer presents it differently. No! They have “unusually broad shoulders” that ordinary people do not have. Archers have a special “archer’s gaze” that sees farther than everyone else’s.And also an unusually keen hearing, developed over the years spent on the hunt. Everyone is afraid of the archer! When an archer walks down the street, all the people shy away from the side!

Yes, I understand that the victory at Agincourt, which was promoted by the archers, is a matter of national pride for the British. But to make from a simple kind of troops, not even an elite special forces, but a certain special race – something like elves, somehow, it’s ridiculous.

But if Cornwell has ARCHERS – these are super troops. Then the main character – the country boy Nick Hook – is the best among the best. The legendary archery champion is Robin Hood, compared to a baby.

Nicholas shoots the farthest. His bow is superior to the crossbow in this. In accuracy and rate of fire, he has no equal in the English army. Nick’s bow is the largest, no one can even pull it.

But the bow is not everything.

Nick Hook, who a year ago looked at the sword in bewilderment as an unnecessary and interfering object, suddenly becomes an invincible swordsman. The art of fighting with this weapon, what the knights have studied for a long time and persistently, I train, almost from the cradle, is revealed to the hero instantly and completely.Sword, ax, halberd – all edged weapons in his hands are deadly. Nick, with ease, crumbles into pieces the armored warriors of the enemy. Kills them in dozens per battle.

In general – a super-hero. A kind of Jedi Knight. You would think that he is not even a professional warrior. These are little things.

And yet, he has superpowers. Yes, Nick also has an additional secret weapon. When neither the widest shoulders, nor the eagle’s eyesight and incredibly subtle hearing help, magical powers come into play.

Voices of various Catholic saints settled in Nick’s head. Well, yes, something like the phenomenon of Joan of Arc. But the Virgin of Orleans is resting! Voices do not just appear sometimes in visions. No! They tell Nick directly what to do and how to do it. Manage it directly. “Go there”, “run right now in that direction.” An excellent option for rescuing from hopeless situations. Yes, yes, again the Jedi and Star Wars: – “Trust in the power and defeat all enemies!”.

Does this look like a historical novel?

The book contains a lot of inconsistencies with real facts.Well, the writer sees not the Middle Ages, but again, some kind of his own fantasy world. Very similar to D. Martin’s PLIO universe.

For certainty – more blood, dirt, violence and sex. By the way, something stuck the writer about the rape. Well, yes, “a terrible century”, but, for some reason, the hero is always trying to save different girls from abuse. Directly a scheme, some kind. And people are constantly talking about it. “Wow? Did the French rape the nuns? Oh no no no! We must punish them! “It amused me that the writer dedicated this book to his beloved granddaughter! Like, look, granddaughter, as grandpa with relish describes the scene of rape! Learn while you’re alive!

Heroes are strictly terrible villains, or, on the contrary, good fellows, the color of chivalry. Black White. If a villain, then, of course, a freak, stupid and lustful animal. Operetta type. But the girls met by the hero are all beauties, angelic creatures. Yeah, all around hunger, epidemics, war and unsanitary conditions, and Nick on the way comes across some beautiful princesses. No, well, if you undertook to describe this era as sheer dirt and, sorry, shit, then what, the heroines are not “pockmarked” with smallpox, not lousy and not smelly? Is realism suddenly changing to romanticism?

Again. Novels of a similar adventure genre, but in historical scenery – by Haggard, W. Scott, A. Dumas and R. Stevenson, are also far from historical realities. I do not argue. But the level of the classics is completely different!

This hero, Nick Hook, is somewhat close to both Quentin Dorward W. Scott and Dick Sheldon from Stevenson’s Black Arrow. They all conquer all enemies, become the favorites of kings. But, you believe the classics, but here it turns out complete nonsense. Unconvincing. This does not happen in life.

I repeat – the level of a teenager. Both in terms of plot and style. The endless narcissism of the protagonist and the writer’s enthusiasm for the character he created. Continuous pathos. All the victories of the British were achieved only thanks to Nicholas Hook.

I began to count how many Frenchmen he had shot or hacked to death at Agincourt, lost count.

Probably Nick Hook could have won this battle on his own. After all, he is an ARCHER.

However, the book is not without merit.

Very easy and quick to read, written in good language.

The translation, although not without blunders, successfully conveys the general atmosphere of the novel. Gloomy, cruel. Dirty.

The scenes of the siege of Soissons and Garfler are quite realistic, even overly naturalistic.

The battle of Agincourt itself is not well written.

Fans of heroic and combat fantasy may like the book.

But, as a historical novel, it is weak. True, this is my personal opinion.

And if this is the author’s best novel, then I don’t want to read the rest.
