Celebrities ‘mislead women over 40 about pregnancy’

Celebrities are misleading women that getting pregnant over 40 is easy by not revealing they have used IVF or had fertility problems, researchers say.

Interviews and reports of older stars giving birth create the impression that ‘age is just a number’.

Experts warned yesterday that a failure to be open about fertility was leading to ‘devastating consequences’.

They said women are being misled into thinking pregnancy is more straightforward past the age of 35 than it is, in reports that ‘glamorise’ being an older mother – without mentioning the difficulties or the risks, such as stillbirth, miscarriage and abnormalities.

Some women have been forthright about their struggles with having children. They include actress Nicole Kidman, pictured right, who was 43 when her second daughter was born via a surrogate ; and singer Mariah Carey, pictured left, who was 41 when she had IVF twins

Experts warned yesterday that a failure to be open about fertility was leading to ‘devastating consequences’ (stock photo)

Having a baby at ‘advanced maternal age’ gets much harder as fertility levels plummet in a woman’s mid-to-late 30s and early 40s – but this is not always made clear, the US researchers said.

Reports of women having twins late into their 40s or even 50s, without any mention of the use of IVF, also create a false impression.

The authors suggested that the stigma attached to infertility may be the reason why it is not mentioned.

But they said ‘reproductive-aged women frequently overestimate the likelihood of fertility at advanced reproductive ages resulting in the devastating consequence of unintended childlessness’.

The scientists’ report, to be presented this week to the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) in San Antonio, Texas, does not list older stars who have given birth without their fertility problems being reported.

However, a handful have been forthright about their struggles with having children.

They include actress Nicole Kidman, who was 43 when her second daughter was born via a surrogate mother; the model Caprice, who also used a surrogate in her early 40s; and singer Mariah Carey, who was 41 when she had twins through IVF.

The authors, from New York University School of Medicine and New York University Langone Medical Center, looked at whether ‘popular media over-represents celebrity pregnancies at advanced reproductive ages and thus contributes to public misconceptions surrounding age-related fertility decline’.

I’m freezing my eggs at 38, says TV Emily

TV scientist Dr Emily Grossman (pictured) said she decided to freeze her eggs after seeing friends in their 40s struggle to conceive.

The 38-year-old, who has a double first from Cambridge and a PhD in cancer research, spent her 20s ‘having fun’ and pursuing an acting career.

Currently single, she hopes to delay motherhood with the freezing process, which will cost just under £10,000. ‘By the time I was in my late 20s, most of my friends were getting married,’ she said.

‘I thought, ‘I’ve got plenty of time’.’ At 30, she gave up drama, and is now an expert on Sky1’s science show Duck Quacks Don’t Echo.

She added: ‘I’ve seen how devastating it is for friends who meet the love of their life in their 40s, then struggle to start a family. I don’t want to be in that position.’

They studied publications ‘popular with women of reproductive age’ – US Weekly, Cosmopolitan and People Magazine – between January 2010 and January 2014.

The scientists logged references in text or photo to pregnancy, infertility, assisted reproductive technology (ART), surrogacy or adoption. They also counted pictures of mothers with children under two at the time of publication, and mentions of pregnancy-related health risks.

Having children featured as a topic on one in three magazine covers, with 1,894 mentions related to fertility, pregnancy, or motherhood.

Just over half of female celebrities featured were of ‘advanced maternal age’ – 35 and above – and one in three celebrities that were mentioned as having children were over 40.

Of the 240 women, ten were reported to have used surrogate mothers or having adopted children. None of these women were mentioned as having infertility issues, the researchers said.

Only two women were reported as using fertility treatment. Not one celebrity report mentioned they used donor sperm or eggs.

The authors write: ‘Widely consumed popular media downplays the impact of age on fertility and glamorises pregnancy at advanced ages … with rare or no mention of ART, donor [eggs or sperm], or related health risks.’

They added: ‘This depiction perpetuates the general notion that fertility is flexible, and is highly damaging to young women.’

Professor Tim Child, of Oxford Fertility Unit, said: ‘The problem is all these Hollywood magazines with these women in their 40s who are having twins. It’s completely unrealistic.’

Calling for greater transparency, ASRM president Dr Richard Paulson said a ‘reluctance to show the challenges that often go with trying to conceive at older ages is a form of misinformation’.

£4,000 IVF screening technique that doesn’t work

A screening technique used in IVF that costs up to £4,000 is ineffective, a study has found.

Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) was developed in 2013 to weed out embryos with genetic defects.

This removes a cell when the embryo is five days old, testing the DNA to see if it has the right number of chromosomes. As well as leading to the pregnancy failing, the wrong number of chromosomes can lead to conditions such as Down’s syndrome.

The test was thought to increase IVF success rates, especially in those who have recurrent miscarriages.

But a study to be presented today at the American Society for Reproductive Medicine’s conference revealed the technique was no more effective than standard treatment – looking at embryos under a microscope and deciding which looks best.

Dr Tim Child, medical director of the Oxford Fertility Unit, who was involved in the study, said: ‘I thought it was going to be a slam dunk: Of course it was going to show a benefit. It’s very surprising to me that it didn’t.’

The study looked at more than 500 women aged from 25 to 40 between 2014 and 2016. Pre-implantation genetic screening such as NGS is estimated to be used in less than 5 per cent of IVF cycles as it is so new.

Celebrities get pregnant over 40. But don’t assume you can too.

In 2014, 49 year old actress Laura Linney welcomed a baby son, her first child with husband Mark Schauer. The couple married in 2009 when Linney was 45.

Falling pregnant in your forties – let alone 49 – is exceedingly rare. Except in Hollywood where it seems to happen with extraordinary regularity.

A few months ago, Halle Berry gave birth for the second time aged 47, to her daughter, Nahla.

Kelly Preston had her third child in 2012, age 48. Susan Sarandon had a baby at 46, and Beverly D’Angelo had twins (with 65yo Al Pacino) at 49. Holly Hunter also gave birth to twins at the age of 47. Geena Davis had her twins at 48, Jane Seymour had twins at 45, Marcia Gay Harden and Desperate Housewives’ Marcia Cross both had twins at 45 and Cheryl Tiegs had twins at 52.

The unspoken question of course is how. How did these women become pregnant so late in life when statistically, the chances of conceiving are miniscule if not zero? According to doctors, pretty much the only way to become pregnant in your mid to late forties is by using donor eggs.

Understandably, celebrities rarely announce the way they became pregnant unless a surrogate was involved (like with Nicole Kidman and Sarah Jessica Parker). When you’re famous, it’s impossible to hide the fact you weren’t pregnant. But something that is possible – and easy – to hide is HOW you became pregnant.

So how do so many famous women become mothers in their mid to late forties and even into their fifties? Donor eggs.

“Celebrities may be different from you and me, they may be better looking but one thing they’re not is more fertile” a Beverly Hills doctor told US Elle magazine. This doctor has helped several middle-aged stars have babies with donor eggs and describes it as the last taboo of infertility.

Famous or not, the most common cause of infertility in women is age. Too many of us simply leave it too late – for a whole bunch of reasons. Sadly, after a certain point there’s nothing you can do to increase the number of eggs you have or extend their expiry date.

“The chance of an egg resulting in pregnancy declines as a woman ages,” explains Brisbane obstetrician/gynaecologist Dr Brad Robinson. “The reason for that is that eggs age just like every other part of us. So an old egg that is finally released at the age of 45 may come out of the ovary – but as I like to tell my patients – it may well come out on a zimmer frame. This is evidenced by the fact the miscarriage rate climbs as we age from 12% at under 30 to 51% at ages 40-44.

The other problem for older mums is that the risk of chromosomal abnormalities also rises exponentially as women age. For example Downs Syndrome – a woman aged 20 has a risk of down syndrome of 1 in 1500. A woman aged 43 has a risk of 1 in 45.”

One of my friends had IVF a few years ago when she was 33 and was shocked to discover her fellow patients in the waiting room were all in their mid to late forties. “They looked visibly desperate,” she remembers. “It was so sad. I felt like saying ‘go home, save yourself the heartbreak.’ How could they believe anything would make them pregnant at that age? Then I picked up a magazine to see Geena Davis pregnant at 49 and I suddenly understood.”

The couple went through a difficult divorce, where she said, ‘It’s a wonderful thing to have closure,’ after winning primary custody of Luna.

While married to Ethan Hawke, Uma had son Levon and daughter Maya.

‘It’s like he had always been there. It’s like he fit in the crook of my arm. He looked me in the eyes and he was just – he was wise. My child was wise. And the beautiful thing that I was constantly told was – “the perfect child will find you. You will find your child.”‘

The actress then adopted daughter Laila in 2015.

The iconic singer gave birth to twins Moroccan and Monroe in 2011, aged 42.

The former Hearsay singer already had two children from her previous marriage: Ava, 12, and Hero, 8.

The actress opened up about how she wished she’d done things slightly differently.

‘I should have had more kids, started younger,’ she said to People magazine.

22 years later, Iman became pregnant again at the age of 45, while married to David Bowie.

The Thelma & Louise star gave birth to her two sons, Jack and Miles, when she was 42 and 45, respectively.

She was with Tim Robbins at the time, and already had a daughter, Eva, from a previous relationship.

Susan’s later pregnancies were a big shock to her.

‘It was just such a freak [thing] that I got pregnant that I thought, “I can’t ignore this,”‘ she told Time Out New York. ‘I had to pay attention when it happened, because nobody could understand how it had happened.’

Comedian and actress Tina was 41 when her second child, Penelope, was born in 2011.

Dry and sensitive skin is extremely common during mid-life pregnancy. Applying a nourishing moisturiser every day is highly recommended. We love this one by Weleda. Apply it all over the body and especially in areas where you’re experiencing severe dryness or dehydration. You can find it here at Amazon.

90,000 “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”. Tarantino spoke about the end of the century of chastity and came up with a happy ending for him

Quentin Tarantino at the premiere of the film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood “.Los Angeles, July 22, 2019

For at least a quarter of a century – if not since the scandalous debut of Reservoir Dogs, then at least after the sensational Palme d’Or in Cannes for Pulp Fiction “in 1994 – every new Quentin Tarantino film is expected to eagerly flutter around the world. It’s no exaggeration to say that he is the most stellar of all directors.

In Tarantino’s new film “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”, in addition to the star-director, there is also a whole constellation of actors: Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Al Pacino, Margot Robbie, Dakota Fanning.

The film is based on the scandalous, extremely cruel and completely unmotivated murder of Hollywood movie star Sharon Tate and her three friends on August 8, 1969.

The murder was carried out by the so-called “Family” of Charles Manson – a group of hippies who embarked on the path of radical anarchism – and is considered to be the beginning of the end of the idealistic era of the 1960s.

All together heightened interest in the film to the limit.

The film was shown for the first time in May at the Cannes Film Festival. It was released in the United States on July 26 and on the first weekend raised over $ 40 million – a record for Tarantino films.

Tarantino intended to coincide with the release of the film to the 50th anniversary of the tragedy, but then either the director himself, or the production company Sony Pictures, nevertheless considered it not very tactful to celebrate the sad anniversary with a magnificent premiere.

The film will be released in the UK on 14 August. In Russia – August 8, exactly on the day of the half-century anniversary of the tragedy. Russian distributors either did not notice the fatal coincidence, or decided to ignore it.

Charles Manson, Sharon Tate and Tragedy – Historical Excursion

In the summer of 1967 – the very “summer of love”, which became the peak and symbol of peace, hope and “power of flowers” – in the center of the entire San Francisco hippie movement In the Haight-Ashbury area, Charles Manson, who dreamed of becoming a rock musician, appeared.

17 of his 32 years Manson spent in prison for a variety of crimes – from car theft to theft of checks. It was in prison that he learned to play the guitar and found his dream there. There is a legend that he tried to take part in the competition for the selection of musicians in the Monkees and threatened to become “more than the Beatles.” for many of them, mostly young naive girls, a kind of guru, he united his followers into the so-called “Family” and preached among them a chaotic philosophical-religious mixture of Christianity, Satanism, Scientology and racial hatred.

In January 1968, the “Family” moved south to Los Angeles and settled in the house of Beach Boys drummer Dennis Wilson, who had the imprudence to pick up two girls voting on the street and give them shelter. The two were followed by the others, including their guru Manson. At first, Wilson was not embarrassed, he gave the “Family” money and helped Manson in making his dreams come true – including his fateful acquaintance with music producer Terry Melcher, who promised to help him in publishing the album.

By the summer, Wilson’s manager had removed The Family from his charge’s house, and the whole company had moved to Spahn Ranch, which for a long time served as a filming location for cowboy films. 80-year-old rancher George Spahn had by that time gone blind and in return for taking care of him and periodic sexual services from the girls allowed the “Family”, which had grown to several dozen people, to live on the ranch for pleasure and even earn a living by conducting horseback riding excursions in the surrounding area. mountains.Life was accompanied by ritual slaughter of animals, masses to the devil and sexual orgies.

During the summer of 1969, Manson and his associates committed several murders, setting them up in such a way that police suspicions fell on the Black Panther party of black radicals. Manson’s goal, which he openly declared, was to foment a racial war in America. For this war, he chose the Beatles song Helter Skelter as a symbolic slogan. Despite the aggressively harsh, deliberately “dirty” and extremely dynamic sound (the song is considered the forerunner of heavy metal), its content is quite innocent: all musical and textual throwing is nothing more than McCartney’s memories of the childhood popular in England in the 50s slide ride.

Meanwhile, Manson, angry at Terry Melcher’s deception – he did not keep his promise to help – decided to take revenge on the offender and sent a brigade of killers to his house – three girls and one young man. Manson knew that Melcher had already moved out of his house and new tenants had moved in. True, he didn’t know – or it didn’t bother him – that these tenants were fashionable after the success of his painting Rosemary’s Baby, which came out a year earlier, Roman Polanski, a recent emigrant from Poland, and his wife, who is nine months pregnant, popular actress and model Sharon Tate …Manson ordered his charges to kill the “pigs” in the house and take all the money found there.

The order was fulfilled – the attackers stabbed or shot four people – the actress herself and three of her friends. On the front door of the house, it was written in Tate’s blood: “PIG”.

The next day Manson himself went to work with five more assistants. This time, their victims were a couple of equally innocent people. Their house was decorated with the same bloody inscriptions “DEATH TO PIGS!” and with a mistake – “HEALTER SKELTER”, and the word “WAR” was carved on the man’s stomach.

Manson and seven other members of the “Family” were sentenced to death , which in 1972 was replaced by life imprisonment. He himself and another of his accomplice died in prison, the rest remain in custody.

Bloody, unmotivated murder by Manson and his “Family” of a beautiful, young, preparing to become the mother of a movie star and her friends became one of the loudest, most famous and most “popular” crimes of the twentieth century.Dozens of books, TV shows, documentaries and films are dedicated to him, replete with various versions of the motives for the murder, including the CIA conspiracy to discredit the entire hippie movement in the eyes of America.

Manson himself appears only briefly in Tarantino’s film, but without knowing the details of this tragedy, it is impossible to understand the film “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”. How impossible it is to understand it without realizing the historical context in which the murder itself happened, and a whole series of events in the summer and autumn of 1969, which had a decisive impact on the culture of America in subsequent decades.

Scrapping of Ages – History and Context

Less than three weeks before the Hollywood tragedy, American astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin stepped onto the lunar surface for the first time in human history.

The assassination of Martin Luther King, King a year earlier, sparked a dramatic shift in civil empowerment for black America.

The Vietnam War was still going on, but the anti-war movement took over the country. Marches on Washington and mass burning of subpoenas became widespread.

The sexual revolution swept the entire country, not only feminism was on the agenda, but also the complete emancipation of the gay movement, the impetus for which was the “Stonewall Uprising” – a massive riot against the persecution of homosexuals by the police in New York’s gay bar Stonewall on June 28 1969 year.

The last year of the glorious decade of the 1960s seemed encouraging.

The culmination of the freedom-loving spirit of the 60s, which multiplied this feeling, was the celebration of “peace, love and music” – a grand free rock music festival in the small town of Woodstock, New York.

Woodstock happened on August 15-18, exactly one week after the Hollywood massacre, and the mass consciousness has not yet managed to draw a direct connection between the Woodstock hippies proclaiming peace and love and the members of Manson’s “Family” who look identical to them.

However, four months later in December, “West Woodstock”, a Californian answer analogous to the East, the same grandiose free rock concert in the Altamont racing park 60 kilometers from San Francisco, was no longer permeated with love and peace, but with violence and even death.

The Hell’s Angels bikers hired as security guards wreaked havoc on the Rolling Stones’ performance. One person was killed, and the musicians were taken out in a panic by helicopter.

Altamont became the antithesis, the opposite of Woodstock. Hippies have ceased to be a symbol of peace and love. The purity turned out to be irrevocably soiled not only with dirt, but also with blood.

For many, however, this purity was not there before.

Hollywood actor Rick Dalton – the protagonist of Tarantino’s film performed by Leonardo DiCaprio – does not find a single kind word for hippies.”Children of flowers” for him are not peace and love, but dirty bums.

Rick is a part of the good old America, and he instinctively and not without reason perceives hippies as a threat to the usual world order.

However, both for him and for his stunt double, and at the same time the driver, assistant, and almost nanny Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt), the threat is much more immediate.

Old Hollywood, which has given them both work and living environment for decades, is eroding before our eyes.A new aesthetics and a new film industry are approaching the familiar cowboy films and detective stories. And if Rick somehow, grumbling and reluctantly adapts to the spaghetti westerns that have come from Europe, then the new generation of “careless riders” and “mad bulls” – Martin Scorsese, Francis Coppola, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas – Rick Dalton with his an old-fashioned pompadour on your head is completely unnecessary.

“Easy Rider” was released on July 14, 1969 – just a few weeks before the Tate tragedy. His heroes Peter Fonda, Jack Nicholson and Dennis Hopper, who quickly burst into American cinemas in their “Harleys”, were not just from another generation. They were from another planet. Rick does not understand them, he is afraid of them.

We don’t see Hopper, Nicholson, Coppola, or Scorsese in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. All of them for Rick are personified by the young, impudent, successful Polanski, who settled next to him with his beautiful and fashionable wife.

1969, the last year of the turbulent decade of the 60s, was the end of two epochs at the same time – the era of chastity, which was just about to begin, and the era of naive idealistic hopes that had just begun.

The golden age of Hollywood ends, a time of hope gives way to a time of fear. This complex, disturbing, but not at all hopeless sensation permeates “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” – the most personal, to the greatest extent reflecting the director’s bizarre aesthetic picture of the world, Quentin Tarantino’s film.

Tarantino Trajectory

Tarantino grew up in Los Angeles. He was six years old in 1969, and in a recent interview he called 1969 “the year that shaped me.”

Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio – Tony Curtis, Gregory Peck and Cary Grant of the XXI century

How did the 69th form it? Where did he go? Following the modernists of the 70s or to the old classic Hollywood, which in the new film is personified by its main characters so cute and so dear to the director’s heart, played by the most archetypal Hollywood stars? After all, who really is Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt if not Tony Curtis, Gregory Peck or Cary Grant of the 21st century?

Bursting into cinema at the turn of the 80s and 90s, in the post-modern era, Tarantino is the embodiment of postmodernism.Everything is important, interesting and valuable to him.

But if at first he was more attracted by the explosive energy of modernism – “Reservoir Dogs”, “Pulp Fiction” and filmed according to his script “Natural Born Killers” his own, but certainly Hollywood classic: “Inglourious Basterds” and the most that neither is the canon – the westerns “Django Unchained” and “The Hateful Eight”.

“Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” is a logical continuation of this path.Postmodernism elevated to the absolute. Cinema about cinema. It is saturated to the limit with visual and sound symbols and signs of previous cinema epochs, shamelessly drawing from there not only images, but also heroes, characters, and creators.

The result is a splendid film show, which only a person who was selflessly in love with cinema could create.

Luxurious film show

Smart, all-knowing, encyclopedically educated in the world of cinema, Tarantino scattered all over the film with hints, allusions and quotes: sometimes clear and transparent, sometimes hidden. You can guess and decipher them endlessly, for any moviegoer this is a special thrill, and you can watch a movie, and you want more and more, every time you discover something new.

I have looked only once so far and will give just a few particularly striking examples.

Rick Dalton brags that he auditioned for the lead role in the classic Hollywood World War II film “The Great Escape” – the one that became the hallmark of the famous Steve McQueen. And what do you think? We immediately see a dialogue filmed in a concentration camp between two Nazi officers and Rick-DiCaprio, in the same leather jacket, in which the British pilot Roger Bartlett, who had escaped from the camp, was racing on a motorcycle McQueen’s hero, who had escaped from the camp.

Rick, along with his constant Sancho Pansa Cliff, comes to a Playboy magazine party. Close-up we see three people meeting them. Freeze-frame and full-screen credits: Steve McQueen, Jay Sebring (former lover, close friend and personal stylist of Sharon Tate, who happened to be in her house on the fateful night and became the victim of a murder) and Michelle Phillips (singer, participant of the popular late 60s x by Mamas and Papas). After giving us a second or two to assimilate what he saw, Tarantino unfreezes the frame, a round as a ball, short, incredibly plump and incredibly lively girl runs up to these three and carries them away into a continuous ball of dancers seething by the pool. The director does not consider it necessary to designate the fatty as an identification title: who, they say, does not know the famous Mama Cass, the soloist of Mamas and Papas?

In the late 1960s, Sharon Tate was the personification of youth, style and beauty.

Sharon Tate enters a bookstore – she wants to buy the first edition of the classic novel by the English writer Thomas Hardy as a gift to her husband. ” Tess is of the d’Urberville family. ” Perhaps she dreams that Polanski would film the book and shoot it in the title role. But she cannot know – and Tarantino knows, and we know – that ten years later the film “Tess” will still be shot, but she will not be destined to play in it, and her widowed husband will give the main role to Nastassia Kinski.

Leaving the store, she suddenly glances at the poster of the cinema – there is a film shot a year earlier with her participation “Team of Destroyers”. She is unable to resist the temptation and goes to the checkout. However, she does not want to buy a ticket, and it is not without difficulty that she manages to convince the cashier and the manager that this is on the poster – she is! They let her in, and we see, among other things, the martial arts scenes that he staged in the film – Tarantino knows, and we understand after him – in the future, the legendary Bruce Lee.

Right there we see Bruce Lee himself. His Hollywood career is just beginning, and while he presumptuously demonstrates his tricks to the group of onlookers gathered around him. Until the experienced stuntman Cliff – Brad Pitt – hurls the future invincible star of karate with one throw, smashing at the same time the door of the limousine standing here.

And so on and so on. As a result – an ode to Hollywood, a declaration of love to him from an ineradicable moviegoer, which, in fact, has always been, from childhood to this day, Quentin Tarantino.

Universe of Music

Tarantino’s films are not only a visual feast, but also a musical one. In popular music of the era, the knowledge of the director is no less comprehensive and versatile than in cinema. It is no coincidence that in almost all his films he avoids attracting composers and saturates the sound aura of his paintings with songs of the appropriate time – selected with exceptional taste, so that each theme, each melody becomes a symbol and sign no less important than a visual and semantic series saturated to the limit pictures.

There are 27 songs on the soundtrack “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”. Some sound entirely, from others we hear only snatches, hints – somewhere far away in the radio or from the TV screen. All of them were recorded in the interval from 1956 to 1972. Some, like Mrs. Robinson, the duo Simon & Garfunkel, are well known. Others will require research from even the most sophisticated music lovers. We hear other super popular hits not in the original version of the artists who glorified them, but already as covers.

So, Tarantino found it apparently too commonplace to include in the film one of the anthems of the era – the majestic California Dreaming of the group Mamas and Papas flashing in the film in the original performance, and in the film we hear how the song is sung by Jose Feliciano.

And there are also cases of the opposite sense. Recorded in 1962, the simple song You Keep Me Hangin ‘On by the American female vocal group Supremes was forgotten in the second half of the decade – until, in 1967, the British from Vanilla Fudge turned it into a powerful seven-minute psychedelic crescendo, to the sounds of which is performed tragically – comic apotheosis of the film.

The usually American-centric Tarantino expanded his reach and included in the soundtrack not only Vanilla Fudge, but also two songs of the still little-known in 1968, not only in the United States, but also in his UK band Deep Purple: Hush and Kentucky Woman.

There is even a song by Charles Manson himself. The paradox is that, having gained world Herostratus fame, he did achieve his goal, and in March 1970 – just seven months after the tragedy in Hollywood – his album was released. Was it worth the sacrifice?

Hollywood wins

The political and aesthetic confrontations of the decade – explicitly or implicitly – permeate the entire film, but it is difficult to imagine a more explicit, more daring and witty manifestation of the author’s sympathies than in completely contradicting historical truth (I will try to possibly to avoid spoilers) finale.

This is not the first time Tarantino has dared to rewrite history. In “Inglourious Basterds”, in the midst of the war, he sends to the next world the entire leadership of Nazi Germany, thus prejudging its outcome long before its real end.

But there, in the alignment of the forces of good and evil, everything was more than obvious.Today, the opposition that emerged in the 1960s between conservatism and liberalism, between the traditional way of life and the new world order, age-old values and an attempt to overthrow them is still far from resolved.

Giving victory not to counterculture, but to stability, not to hippie revolutionaries, but to the fragments of the old world to Rick Dalton and Cliff Booth, Tarantino makes his choice. Cool are not hippies. Cool Rick and Cliff.

And it’s not just about politics and ideology. It’s also about aesthetics. Rejecting the dark, in the spirit of the harsh realism of the 70s, but true to the historical truth of the ending, Tarantino – the one who seemed always immersed in the world of cruelty and violence as a hardened cynic – quite unexpectedly turns out to be a romantic, creates a fairy tale out of a merciless reality.

Here I cannot refrain from reproaching the Russian distributors: the original title of the film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is nothing more than a fabulous beginning, and it would be better translated as “Once upon a time in Hollywood …” But , be that as it may, as it should be in a fairy tale, its author gives us the most positive, complacent and life-affirming happy ending.

Hollywood won.

Late paternity: pros and cons

It is generally accepted that it is better for women to give birth to 40 (and this is a stretch), but a man can become a good father even at 50, even at 80.They say, he does not need to bear a child, to give birth, too, the problem is only in fervor and potency. If everything is in order with both, you can become a father at any age.

Genius or Autism?

By the way, many celebrities were not afraid of late paternity: American actor Alec Baldwin did it for the last time at 58 years old, Robert De Niro at 68. Michael Douglas, Richard Gere and Nicolas Sarkozy, who gave birth to heirs at the age of over 50, and Paul McCartney, once again a father at 61.

Another widespread belief says that elderly fathers often have talented children – like, for example, Mozart, but scientists say that this is, rather, the “merit” of maternal genes.

In general, in recent years, scientists have often debunked myths about the harmlessness of old-born fathers for offspring. Scientific studies show that after 35 years, the quality of sperm deteriorates, there is a risk of having a child with mental retardation, Down syndrome or an underdeveloped immune system.Even young partners of older men have a high risk of miscarriage and missed pregnancies. Even children of late fathers are at risk of later developing diabetes, schizophrenia, cardiovascular and oncological diseases. In addition, according to some doctors, there is a chance to give birth to an autistic child in old age.

Recent studies by Icelandic scientists confirm the risks. As it turned out, the paternal age affects the health of the future heir more than the mother’s age. In a large-scale study in 2017, scientists studied more than one and a half thousand triplets (the sums of the genomes of the father, mother and child) to determine the rate of occurrence of mutations in newborns, and found that each newborn receives an average of 70 new mutations that the parents did not have. Moreover, 80% of these mutations are brought by the sperm, 20% – by the egg. It turns out that mutations are almost entirely on the conscience of the male parent.

There is a time for everything

There are also psychological costs of “elderly” childbearing. Still, a child whose mom and dad are more like his grandparents are unlikely to feel comfortable among their peers. But all these questions are purely individual: in certain situations, there may be advantages.

Indeed, it is better to “engage in fatherhood” within the time allotted by nature, says psychologist, psychotherapist Dmitry Ershov.

“If a new family has formed, and there is a desire and opportunity to have children, this should be promoted in every possible way. In our student years, we had a vulgar remark: “one careless movement – and you are a father.” And today the situation is different: people try very hard, IVF, surrogacy – but it doesn’t work out. So if God gave the long-awaited child at a later age, it is a blessing, ”the expert said.

If people have children after 50 years of age, there is a high risk that they may meet their majority as orphans.A young, failed father in life, of course, is unlikely to provide a child with the same material benefits as a rich elderly parent – but this father, at least physically, will live up to the graduation of his son or daughter. In addition, older parents may experience health problems that will burden the child’s shoulders – and it is not a fact that he will be mentally and physically ready for such a turn of events.

Of course, if you choose between parents – young alcohol addicts, or elderly millionaires, the second option is preferable, says the psychotherapist. But each situation must be resolved purely individually – there can be no general recipes here.

And, finally, all the “horror stories” of scientists have certain reasons. “Over time,“ breakdowns ”and mutations accumulate in the body. Unfortunately, reality confirms that late parenthood is not good for the child’s health. Go out with a Geiger counter to certain districts of Moscow and measure the radioactive radiation! All this is a powerful mutagen. Ecology, poor nutrition, alcoholism – “breakdowns” accumulate, add up, “the expert explains.

Thus, age does not add health to anyone and directly affects the “quality” of the offspring.

In addition, there is one more point to consider. Of course, on the one hand, the future parent must stand firmly on his own two feet, on the other hand, he has not yet had time to become a regular patient of the polyclinics. “But in our realities – at least in my understanding – it is extremely difficult to raise a child, living on an average salary. Especially if we start talking about a decent standard of living, education, upbringing and everything else. Therefore, of course, the help of the closest relatives – grandparents – cannot be avoided. I would also consider the issue from this point of view. We need older relatives to be able to support the parents of the baby, ”says the source of MIR 24.

This is not about pushing the kid onto the ancestors, but about relying on their help, support, experience and opportunities that people usually acquire with age. “That is, as in the good old days, to educate the younger generation not with one echelon of relatives, but with several.A child requires tremendous effort. The help and support of the older generation is desirable, without whose participation it is extremely difficult to get a good result. And grandparents should also be physically able to provide this help, ”the psychotherapist summed up.

90,000 Late children: given hard, but grow up brilliant

Now there is no such thing as an old-born in medicine, there is a milder term “primiparous age” – a woman after 35 years. These include, for example, Hollywood stars Kim Basinger (gave birth to their first child at 42), Salma Hayek (41), Monica Bellucci (40), supermodel Linda Evangelista (41) and many others. Well, to give birth to a second or third child at the age of 44–45 is not uncommon at all. Lera Kudryavtseva, as you know, gave birth to her second child at the age of 47, Olga Kabo at 44.

The reasons for late childbirth are different for each woman. But they can be reduced to three groups: medical – problems with conception or gestation and long years of treatment; personal – late marriage or second (third, etc.)etc.) a husband with whom you want to have a child in common, or, on the contrary, failures in your personal life, the absence of a husband, when a woman decides to give birth to a child “for herself”; finally, professional – passion for work, career building.

So today women giving birth after 45 years no longer frighten anyone: neither doctors, nor the public. This is primarily due to the fact that medicine has made great strides forward. And the second is the extension of female youth. Thanks to the success of medicine, the commitment of an increasing number of people to a healthy and active lifestyle, old age has been pushed back by at least ten, or even 15 years.Hence the conclusion: down with all kinds of complexes, no one today will mistake a mother for a grandmother, who at 52 is taking her late child to first grade.

“I would have given birth to a third! Even at 50 “

Muscovite Yulia Ivanova has a difficult life path, as she herself says, “twisted and atypical”, which led to the birth of her second child at the age of 47. But her example shows: despite all sorts of difficulties, including material ones, the joy of the desired child covers all the troubles!

She can be called a heroine with confidence.Yulia’s first son, Mikhail, was born with a developmental disorder, she raised him alone, and separated from her husband immediately after the birth of the boy. Today the son is already 25 years old. Julia would not want to name his diagnosis, for her he is just a special child. Her whole life was devoted to the boy, it never even crossed her mind to think about personal happiness …

But at the age of 45 it still happened – our heroine met her true love. The husband was six years younger, he had no children of his own, and, of course, they wanted to have a baby.True, I had to go to the doctors – it seems both are healthy, but at first it was not possible to get pregnant. However, at the age of 46, Julia learned that she would become a mother.

– Despite the difficult material and living conditions, despite the fact that there are many problems with the first son, we were happy! We were sure that everything will definitely be fine, – says Yulia.

The pregnancy was proceeding normally – by the age of 47, the expectant mother was quite healthy, no additional examinations of the unborn child were done.By the way, the doctors were very supportive of her, in her address she heard only words of admiration.

Little Vanya makes his parents happy every day. Photo: From personal archive

Julia gave birth herself. Now Vanechka is two and a half years old, he is very lively and active. “Sometimes it seems that my husband adores him more than me! – Julia smiles. – He’s very smart, runs out into the yard and immediately falls on the asphalt – because he runs so fast! And looking at him, I think: well, where are my at least 35 years old ?! Of course, I would like to be younger, more mobile, more active… I keep thinking: he will be 20, and I will be 70 … And so I want to have time to put him on his feet, to show the world. ”

Julia is in good spirits all the time. Calm, smiling. Although her life is not easy. The husband is constantly at work, but money is still not enough, so Yulia has to go to work three times a week. “While I work, Vanya manages to destroy the whole apartment …” – she smiles. At this time, her old mother is sitting with the baby. This is, of course, not easy for mom, but she really wants to help her daughter, who has finally found happiness.By the way, our heroine considers the main disadvantage of late motherhood to be precisely the fact that grandparents are already in old age and cannot fully help. Although, on the other hand, most of her young friends raising children are also deprived for various reasons of help from their parents and can only rely on themselves.

“It’s good that the eldest son can go to classes on his own – with his diagnosis it is a rarity. This is a great help for us, ”says Yulia. Her special son attends many different circles: drawing, theater, and singing in karaoke … He goes to the pool, to the gym.Although it is still a big child, and for my mother there were always painful thoughts about what would happen to him when he was left alone …

Now Misha will not be left alone.

– The birth of his brother was good for Misha. He has changed for the better, has become more independent, seeks to help us more, – says Yulia.

Misha periodically has bouts of depression, and at such moments he is most afraid of being alone. But now he is calm, as he is sure that his younger brother will take care of him.Misha loves him very much. Explains to me: “He and I have different dads, you know? And we have only one mother. ”

I would like to believe that Vanechka, sent by him at such a “mature” age, will justify all hopes, and if his parents fail, he will show them the world himself.

“You know, I would have given birth to a third! Even now. If I succeed in getting pregnant, I will give birth … “- Julia smiles at last.

“This is the joy worth living for”

The reasons for late motherhood are different for everyone.By the age of 35, Alina Orlova was diagnosed with autoimmune hypothyroidism, a disease whose concomitant diagnosis is infertility. She was not very upset at first – she even convinced herself that she was an adherent of the child-free theory …

But one day a wrestler woke up in Alina.

“I said to myself, stop self-deception,” she recalls. – I am not any chidle-free, I want a child and I will strive to make my dreams come true.

Several years of my life were spent on preparing and trying to get pregnant with the help of IVF.And these were not the easiest years in her life. Several failed attempts, hopes, disappointments …

– This is a rather painful procedure, besides it is long: first preparation, when you sit on hormones, then several not very pleasant procedures follow … But I firmly decided not to give up!

Her tenacity was rewarded.

– The most memorable “shot”: here my husband and I are sitting at the phone and waiting for the call from the medical center and say the result of the analysis confirming the pregnancy. But the call, promised even in the afternoon, sounded only in the evening. And all these hours we just sat and waited. And finally the nurse’s voice: “Yes, yes, you are, you are pregnant!”

“Today my daughter is already eight years old,” Alina says proudly. – She is very funny, constantly laughs, composes funny songs. At such moments, you forget about how much we have suffered … The positive aspect of late motherhood is the wisdom accumulated by mom and dad over many years of life. But the main and, of course, positive quality of mature mothers is awareness.Only by having a baby at an age do you understand how valuable life is …

But Irina Samokhvalova had to become a late mother because of her career. She gave birth to her first child at 33. The son was a difficult child, hyperactive, the first years took away too much energy from his parents. And Irina also wanted to work actively – she worked in a large advertising agency, headed the department and had great prospects for the future.

In connection with all this, the thoughts of the second baby receded into the background – even for the first time there was not enough, I had to resort to the help of a nanny.Only closer to forty did she think: if not now, then never …

– I always wanted to have two children, but I thought that I would still have time, – says Irina. – I thought I’ll become the head of a new branch and go on maternity leave. But the more job responsibilities I had, the more responsible they became, the more difficult it was to break free … At 43 I said to myself: that’s it, you can’t pull any longer. And I got pregnant … The most interesting thing is that when I gave birth to Pavlik at the age of 33, the doctors called me old-born – and indeed, in the hospital at that time I was almost the “oldest” of mothers. And when, 11 years later, I ended up in the hospital at the age of 44, no one rolled their eyes. There were a lot of people like me.

Ira does not hide that the “mature” pregnancy was more difficult for her than the first one. Carrying the baby was physically harder. Since she had problems during the first birth, at the age of 44 she could no longer take risks – and she underwent a cesarean section.

A big disadvantage of late childbirth, Irina considers the danger that at the age of 47–48 a woman will not be hired, especially with a small child.

– My vacancy at the company was filled, and I was not able to return after the decree, despite my vast experience and good relations with the management, she sighs. – I could not find a new place for about two years. Then I got a job – however, I had to learn more, the advertising business has changed a lot over the past few years … But if you really want something, you will always achieve it! And to give birth to a child, and to find a job – there is no impossible in life … And I really like being a mature mother. Older mothers tend to be wiser and better understand what the child needs.

Climax? No, pregnancy!

23 years ago, the daughter of the famous journalist and poet Alexei Surkov, who wrote the famous front-line song “In the dugout”, Natalya Surkova gave birth to a child at 57 years old. Then it was a record in our country, her female “feat” was even entered into the Russian Book of Records.

By the age of 57, Natalya already had two adult children. And at this time she met love. Her chosen one, a famous composer, was 10 years younger and really wanted to have children. And Natalia decided to give her beloved man such an opportunity.

It was the mid-90s and the gynecologists looked at the woman like she was crazy. She went around many medical centers in the capital, but did not find support anywhere. Until I got to Doctor Erofeeva.

– Once a patient came to my appointment – over fifty, but youthful, fit, with a good figure, lively, – says obstetrician-gynecologist Lyubov Erofeeva. – She turned out to be 54 years old. She believed she was on the verge of menopause. He says to me: “Do not consider me abnormal, but I would like to have a baby.” I ask: “Do you have children?” “Yes,” he replies, “grown-up daughter and son, and even grandchildren.” It turned out that there was a love story … I told her that there are such methods now. And she sent her to the clinic of the famous doctor Valery Zdanovsky.

In the clinic, the woman was examined and reassured – you can get pregnant. As a result, after a course of treatment, a healthy girl was born.

Alas, despite the birth of a daughter, they soon parted with their beloved man, the girl’s father, for the sake of whom Natalya decided on such a brave act.According to rumors, he had another family, where a child was also born almost at the same time.

As Natalia said, late childbirth rejuvenated her body so much that she felt like a girl. She has never regretted in her life that she gave birth to a daughter at such a respectable age.

Not so long ago, Natalya Surkova passed away, a little before her 80th birthday. Her daughter Alexandra is already 23 years old. Mom managed to raise her …

For a long time, Natalia Surkova retained the title of the country’s “oldest mother”.However, in 2015, a Muscovite Galina Shubenina was able to give birth at 60 years old. The woman decided to take this desperate step after the death of her only son, who was 29 years old. So far, this is a record age for a woman in labor in Russia. Galina and her husband Aleksey, who is 8 years younger than her, were very happy when they had a daughter. They came up with an unusual name for the girl, in accordance with the very fact of her birth – Cleopatra. The woman admits that her little daughter adds vitality to her, keeps them in good shape with her husband. My daughter is growing up smart and beautiful.

Give birth to genius!

So, the disadvantages of late pregnancy are not the mother’s health, the increased risk of complications during childbirth or giving birth to an unhealthy child. Doctors can help overcome these problems. Another disadvantage is that it is more tedious to carry a child and take care of him in the first years of life.

But the pluses far outweigh. As a rule, by mature age, married couples usually stand firmly on their feet, have certain savings and can afford a nanny, an au pair. Also, scientists have proved that children born as a result of early pregnancies are less developed in psycho-emotional terms than children of “mature” mothers. These children are given much more attention, time and energy, because they are always desired and loved. It is here that lies the clue to the mystery of why later children are more talented and gifted than their early peers. It is a well-known fact that the genius of a child depends on the age of the parents (history shows that geniuses were most often the sixth or seventh children in the family, that is, their parents were no longer young).

Another plus – small children have a kind of rejuvenating effect on their mature parents: they have to live in their interests – first children, then adolescents. Be aware of youth trends. Think “like a youth”, otherwise the children will not share anything. For women, this is a huge incentive to look good, take care of their health, in order to live as long as possible.

Medicine today is able to make the dream of a 45-year-old woman about a healthy child come true. In our time, there is nothing unnatural and sensational in this. But in the country there will be more “loving” and “dug” children born by their parents at a wise, conscious age.

General Director of the Russian Association for Population and Development (RANiR), obstetrician-gynecologist, international expert in reproductive health and rights EROFEEVA Lyubov Vladimirovna:

– This is a hot topic right now. Our life is not easy, there is a lot of fuss, a woman does not always have time to realize her reproductive plans in the time frame that doctors would like.

The most important thing is that the pregnancy must be planned! There is nothing worse than carrying an unwanted child. But when pregnancy is desired, then it is a pleasure for doctors to lead such a future mother.

However, it must be remembered that a woman’s reproductive age has boundaries. And the most favorable age for the birth of the first child is 20-24 years. Nobody canceled the laws of nature. The probability of immediately getting pregnant at this age is 96%. This probability will decrease with age.At 35 – 78%, after 40 – 50%.

The second difficulty – by the age of 40, a “bouquet” of diseases accumulates, even if the woman does not feel them yet. These are cardiovascular problems, problems with blood, with its clotting, neurological problems, psychological, with the gastrointestinal tract, with the endocrine system, etc. You need to be prepared that chronic diseases can worsen, therefore it is extremely important to observe the entire pregnancy with specialized specialists. The tissues of organs, the birth canal become inelastic, therefore, after 40 years, most likely, there will be an operative delivery. And it doesn’t matter whether you give birth to the first child or not the first: if the second or third child is born with a break of 10 years, the birth is again considered the first.

Another nuance. In older women who strive to give birth at all costs, there is increased anxiety, which also leads to negative consequences both during pregnancy and in the future – it can turn into overprotection of the child.

Lyubov Erofeeva recommends “mature” pregnant women:

1.It is very important for a future aging mother not to be alone with her problems, with her anxious thoughts. You need to find YOUR doctor who will understand her and support her in everything.

2. It is equally important to obey the doctor. If he warns that there are high risks associated with pregnancy, you need to be prepared for them.

3. Before the planned pregnancy, it is recommended to undergo the following minimum examination: gynecological and urological, endocrinologist, general practitioner, dentist.

4. Already during pregnancy, older women have a high risk of termination of pregnancy, you need to take care of yourself like a “crystal vase”.

5. There are several screening tests – blood tests that can help the doctor understand early in pregnancy if the fetus is genetically abnormal.

6. It should be remembered that pregnancy at any age, and even more so at an older age, is very serious!

90,000 The governor of the Moscow region sent the elderly to isolation, and pregnant women

The Governor of the Moscow Region Andrei Vorobyov, by his order, recommended that the old people be sent to isolation.Pregnant women are advised to be transferred to remote work.

The Governor of the Moscow Region Andrei Vorobyov signed an order introducing the isolation of citizens over the age of 65. This was reported by the “360” TV channel.

As Vorobyov explained, we are talking about the most vulnerable group of people to COVID-19. The fact is that in the region about 55% of patients connected to ventilators are citizens over 65 years old.

“I draw the attention of employers, talk again, explain to the owners and managers of industrial enterprises about the possible provision of special working conditions for those over 65,” the governor explained at the meeting.

Pregnant women who must be transferred to remote work also fell into a special group. Vorobyov additionally demanded to pay attention to the quality of services in hospitals, because officials receive complaints about the quality and effectiveness of treatment.

In addition, the head of the Moscow region drew attention to the issue of attracting new doctors to the fight against coronavirus.

“It is difficult to create and build new beds, but we have learned. However, the quality of doctors and nurses is fundamentally important,” he explained.

As reported by RIA FAN, earlier the World Health Organization (WHO) updated the recommendations on the procedure for isolating people infected with COVID-19. So, a person should be fenced off from society within 10 days after the first symptoms are detected.

It is worth adding three more days to this period, when there were no symptoms at all. If signs of coronavirus were observed for 14 days, then the isolation period should be 17 days.

If the patient has no symptoms at all, it is recommended to release him after 10 days.
