Bride wedding day essentials: Wedding Day Essentials 101: The Ultimate Checklist

Wedding Day Essentials 101: The Ultimate Checklist

These things are so important to remember, but so easy to forget.

Of course you’ll want your emergency kit, your transportation and your day-of itinerary locked down. But those things are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to your wedding day essentials. So just to be sure you’re briefed on the prerequisites, we’ve rounded up the less obvious things you’ll definitely need when the day rolls around. This way, you’ll be fully prepared when it’s officially crunch time, and you won’t have to delay the ceremony because you’ll be running out to grab your legal documents or trying to find an ATM. And don’t feel bad if you haven’t thought of these yet—you wouldn’t be the first.

1. Cash (and Envelopes) for Tipping…

Between your waitstaff, your DJ and anyone doing any heavy lifting to help set up your ceremony or reception, it’s likely you’ll have lots of people you should tip on your wedding day. Bring cash and premade envelopes to avoid loose bills and having to write checks on the spot.

2. …And for Unforeseen Incidents

Maybe you didn’t know one of your vendors doesn’t accept credit cards, or someone unexpectedly goes above and beyond the call of duty. Either way, you don’t want to be stuck in a position where you either have to run out to an ATM in the middle of the day, or leave someone in a lurch. Be prepared: Bring the cash.

3. Your Marriage License

Yes, you probably want your wedding to be legal, so definitely don’t forget to bring your marriage license. Since you’ll be focused on, well, getting married, hand it over to your officiant or appoint a responsible person to look after it so it doesn’t get lost amid the chaos.

4. Chargers, Chargers, Chargers

Even if you’re having an unplugged ceremony or swearing off your cell phone for the night, you might still want a phone to keep in touch with family members, attendants and vendors during the day, or in case of emergency. And given the fact that you’ll probably receive more texts and calls on your wedding day than on your birthday (even though you’ve already designated your point people for certain phone calls), you’ll want to be prepared to plug in if need be.

5. Change of Shoes

As much as you love your brand-new four-inch stilettos you bought specifically to match your wedding gown, be honest with yourself: They probably won’t be comfortable when you’re breaking it down on the dance floor all night. Bring a pair of comfier heels you’ve already had a chance to break in, or even sneakers.

6. Tools

Tools are one of the most important day-of wedding essentials! You want to be prepared for any surprises, especially if you don’t have a planner. A set of basic tools is a must have: a screwdriver, a hammer, nails. Also bring double-sided tape (both for wardrobe malfunctions and stubborn décor), glue and a set of eyeglass screwdrivers just in case.

7. Outdoor Supplies (for Outdoor Weddings)

If you’re getting married outside, be ready should mother nature crash the party by having some special wedding day necessities on hand. Though it may clash with your perfume, bug spray is an absolute essential. Sunscreen and aloe vera are also crucial for daytime ceremonies.

8. Cosmetics

Even the best makeup can get smudged by tears. Keep a suite of basic cosmetics on hand. Even if you get your makeup done ahead of time, you can’t go wrong by having foundation, mascara, lipstick and the works at the ready. Make sure that the groom brings some basics for him too. He should have easy access to hair product and deodorant.

9. For the Wedding Night

The party doesn’t end at the reception, at least for the lucky couple. Bring any…supplies you might need for the bedroom. Remember to pack your day-after outfit; it’s much more fun to have morning coffee with your new spouse in a fresh set of clothes.

10. Medicine

A long-day of standing, crying, eating, drinking and dancing can take a toll on even the most stalwart couples. Bring NSAIDs for pain relief and antacids for the culinary festivities. Bring enough for the guests too.

The Wedding Day Emergency Kit Essentials: What to Include

Trust us, you don’t want to be stuck without these essentials.

While you certainly don’t want to expect any emergencies on your wedding day, it’s always better to be safe than sorry. To prepare for small beauty blunders or fashion mishaps, have a wedding day emergency kit on hand. This is an essential wedding planning task that shouldn’t be forgotten. In fact, some planners say that making a wedding day survival kit is one of the most important things to complete before the celebration. So, what exactly should you put in a wedding day emergency kit? And who should hold it throughout the day? We tapped experts to answer all of your wedding emergency kit questions. Use this as your go-to guide when making your kit to prevent last-minute emergencies.

In this article:

What is a Wedding Day Emergency Kit?

A wedding day emergency kit is exactly what you think: It’s a collection of toiletries and household essentials to fix any problems you might encounter on your big day, from a ripped hemline to a nauseous stomach or a broken earring. “I always recommend having a small kit on hand that will solve common wedding day blunders,” says Amanda Chabot, lead planner for Mavinhouse Events. Not only will a bridal emergency kit help you fix small issues, it’ll give you peace of mind to know that you’re prepared for anything. “Your wedding is a culmination of so many hours of planning, so being prepared will help make you feel completely calm and enjoy each moment,” she says. Adds Amy Nichols, founder of Amy Nichols Special Events and Intimate I Dos: “An emergency kit will also ensure that you, your family or wedding party don’t have to run any last minute errands to get something you might have forgotten.”

What Should Be in a Wedding Day Emergency Kit?

Choosing what to include in your wedding day emergency kit might feel overwhelming at first. While you can’t predict every scenario that might happen on your wedding day, it’s helpful to talk it out with your S.O. and your wedding planner or coordinator. “Walk through the day and consider ‘what if’ situations,” suggests Cassy Anderson of Cassy Rose Events. “Then, pack items that’ll help you solve potential problems you can identify.”

Determining exactly what belongs on your emergency kit list is a personal choice, but we’ve outlined a few must-haves below.

Jewelry Cleaner

Your jewelry should be in top shape for your wedding day, so pack a cleaning kit in your emergency bag. “Apart from an engagement party, your wedding day is when friends and family actually take your hand and hold your rings up to their face for a good look,” says Hannah Peck, founder of Juli Diamond Cleaning System. “Photographers and videographers also shoot close-ups of the rings, so it’ll be easy to see if your jewelry isn’t clean. Your diamond’s sparkle can’t be captured in an image or video if dulling grime and deposits are blocking the light from bouncing around in your stone.”

Peck recommends including a jewelry cleaning device in your emergency kit to give your rings a deep cleanse on the morning of your wedding. Ask your maid of honor to handle diamond cleaning duties while you get your hair and makeup done.

Sewing Kit

Stitch minor rips or snags with a small sewing kit. You don’t have to be a seamstress to make simple fixes to a wedding dress or bridesmaid gown. In case you (or someone in your wedding party) has a minor fashion faux pas, you’ll be thankful to have a needle and thread on hand. We recommend buying a few spools of thread in colors that match your wedding dress and the bridal party’s outfits to be safe.

Makeup for Touch-Ups

During your hair and makeup trial with your glam squad, determine what products you’ll be wearing on the big day so you can stock up on a few travel-size pieces. Your makeup might shift throughout the ceremony and reception, but you can prolong your look by having a few key products in your bridal emergency kit. Blotting pads, concealer, mascara and setting spray are all helpful toiletries to have nearby. Makeup artists will often provide a small vial of the bride’s lip color for reapplication. Give this to maid of honor for lip touch-ups before big moments like family portraits or the reception entrance.

You might not think backup earrings are necessary, especially if you’ve selected a special pair for your big day. But a smaller, more comfortable set can actually be a major lifesaver, especially if your original earrings are heavy on your earlobes. Backups will also come in handy if an earring breaks or gets lost during the day’s events. You can never have too many earring backs either—throw a handful of extras in your tote for yourself and your bridesmaids.

In addition to these larger items, fill your wedding survival kit with small toiletries and handy essentials. Use our checklist below to ensure that your emergency bag has everything you could possibly need.

  • Printed copy of the wedding day timeline

When Should You Pack the Wedding Day Emergency Kit?

It’s recommended to start packing your emergency kit in the weeks—not days—leading up to your wedding. The week before your wedding can feel like a whirlwind of events, which can lead to oversights when packing the essentials. To reduce your stress, start adding things to your survival bag as early as possible. “Packing the emergency kit a few weeks before the wedding leaves room for little error,” advises Robin Jenkins of Brown Bird Events. “This allows you to think clearly and objectively about what you need.”

Your emergency kit isn’t just for the wedding day either. Bring the bag for all of your wedding weekend events, from the rehearsal dinner to the farewell brunch.

Who Should Hold the Emergency Kit?

Don’t worry about keeping track of your emergency kit on the day of wedding, because you’ll have plenty of other things to focus on. Instead, ask someone close to you to keep track of your essentials. “Before the wedding, give your emergency kit to someone who is responsible, trustworthy and dependable,” suggests Linda Ferguson, Wedding and Event Sales Manager for Hotel Viking. “This could be the maid of honor, a best friend or a family member.”

If you’ve hired a wedding planner or day-of coordinator, they can also hold onto your wedding day emergency kit. What matters most is that you trust whoever’s in charge of your essentials—that way, you’ll enjoy your wedding day stress-free.

Why You Need a Wedding Day Emergency Kit + Checklist of What To…

Reason #4837 why you need a Wedding Day Emergency Kit.

California Academy of Sciences | Annie McElwain Photography

As maid of honor for my sister’s wedding, I (Denise) wore a strapless dress.

Now I don’t know about you, but I’m no Heidi Klum. I’ll probably never be asked to model bras for Victoria’s Secret if you know what I mean, so I needed to make sure that strapless gown stayed put against all odds. I’d worn a strapless dress at weddings before, and I have to admit: I spent half the night pulling my dress up.

I wasn’t interested in constantly monitoring my dress’ coordinates at my sister’s reception, so I made an appointment to have my dress altered 2 weeks before the wedding. When I got the dress back from the seamstress, I was thrilled. It fit like a glove! It passed every test: jumping up and down, dancing, sitting, you name it.

The day of the wedding, I put my dress on—and to my horror it felt loose. I guess those last few spin classes did more than I wanted them to! Luckily, one of the bridesmaids had fashion tape in her bag. I’d never used it before, but all I could hear in my head was Tim Gunn saying, “Make it work!” We lined the very top of the dress with a couple of pieces of tape, and I crossed my fingers and hoped for the best…

I’m proud to say that fashion tape saved my life! My dress didn’t budge all night—and let me tell you—I put it to the test and danced my butt off!

This is just one example of why it’s *crucial* to have a Wedding Day Emergency Kit.

This small makeup bag filled with “just in case” items can fix most of those little wedding-day problems—and end up saving the day! Got a pounding headache pre-ceremony? Pop an Advil. Corner of your eyelash coming unglued? Whip out that tube of DUO. Did you spill some red wine or bust a seam? Luckily you’ve packed some Shout Wipes and a mini sewing kit! From double-sided tape to deodorant, an emergency kit can be a real lifesaver on the big day.

Here’s a list of 32 items I’d recommend a bride and bridesmaids have handy in an emergency kit for the wedding day:

  • Fashion tape (obvi)
  • Sewing kit (this will include mini scissors and safety pins!)
  • Tweezers
  • Extra jewelry and earring backs, in case anyone forgets their accessories or something breaks and you need a replacement.
  • Tide To Go pen, Shout Wipes, baby powder, and/or white chalk to remove or hide any stains
  • Baby wipes, makeup remover wipes, or tissues
  • Bobby pins and/or hair ties
  • Breath mints. You could even pack a travel-sized toothbrush + toothpaste or floss if you want.
  • Tampons
  • Advil or any other necessary meds.
  • Band-Aids
  • Super glue
  • Clear nail polish
  • A bottle of nail polish that matches your mani/pedi, in case they chip.
  • Eyelash glue if you’re wearing falsies.
  • Travel lotion
  • Travel hairspray
  • Sole inserts for high heels (your feet will thank me).
  • Solemates heel protectors – especially if you’re having an outdoor wedding!
  • Nail file
  • Lipstick, lipgloss, and/or Chapstick
  • Oil blotting sheets for your face: I love them because they take the shine away without loading on another layer of makeup.
  • Q-tips
  • Travel deodorant
  • Static Guard
  • Lint roller
  • Small brush or comb
  • Sample spritzer of your fave perfume. Gotta love those tiny bottles!
  • Small mirror
  • An extra pair of contacts, if you wear them.
  • Flip-flops for dancing
  • A healthy snack, in case you get hangry pre-ceremony.

90,000 Wedding Day: Tips for Brides

A wedding is the biggest holiday for any couple, because the story of a new family begins with it. The main decoration of the solemn day, as a rule, is the bride herself: all eyes and lenses are directed at her, guests and the future spouse admire her, and little girls will dream of growing up and becoming the same as her. We talked to experts and decided to combine in one article useful tips to help you shine on your own wedding day!

Photographer Alexander Nesterov

The right start – morning of the bride

We all know the saying that as you celebrate the New Year, you will spend it.So, here, on the wedding day, the same rule applies – the beginning of this important day is crucial , so take this moment with great responsibility. What does it mean?

First, it is very important that you rest and sleep . In All Weddings Agency advises to spend nights before the wedding in the same place where gathering and the entire wedding procession will take place. Do not tire yourself with early wakes, rush and kilometer-long traffic jams on an already busy day.Everyone needs you rested and energetic, so a sound sleep, a delicious breakfast and a beautiful collection will inspire and charge you with a good mood.

All Weddings Agency

By the way, about breakfast – it is our number two point. Regardless of how you feel about this meal in everyday life, on your wedding day it has vital . In , iMarry insists on the importance of breakfast for several reasons: “Even if the anticipation and excitement does not go down your throat on the wedding morning, force yourself to eat at least something light .Many wedding planners will confirm the importance of this advice: on the wedding day, a girl practically does not have a single free minute, and will need a lot of energy . If you neglect the morning meal, there is a high probability that marriage vows will have to be taken with the rumbling of an empty stomach. It is also worth having breakfast, as even a glass of champagne drunk on an empty stomach can cause quite severe intoxication and cause dizziness. Remember this! ”

Gathering the bride

You can do or not do the shooting of the bride’s gatherings, this is the choice of every bride, because the fashion for such shooting came to us recently and this is perhaps not the case when it is necessary to keep everything as a keepsake. If you still want to arrange a shooting, then there are several nuances that will allow you to create the “perfect picture”.

The iMarry agency gives some organizational tips:

  1. When choosing a place for gathering, give preference to a bright room with large windows . For this, both the stylist and the photographer will be grateful to you.

  2. Invite a photographer and videographer approximately one hour before the end of the collection. You can skip the stage of applying the tonal base in the photo report.

  3. Prepare your beautiful details (jewelry, shoes, dress, bouquet) for the photographer in advance and put them in one place. You will not have to be distracted while working with a stylist to find accessories.

  4. Add 20-30 minutes at the end of your fundraising for your morning portraits : good light, fresh makeup and a calm atmosphere are great conditions for creating quality wedding portraits.

One of the most popular options for the gathering space for the bride is hotel – here both the interior and the light will allow you to create stunning photographs. In addition, in case of emergency, the hotel staff will always be able to help you – have you forgotten to charge your phone at home, have a headache or a wrinkled dress? No matter what happens, the hotel staff can help!

Agency iMarry

As for the bride’s image, wedding organizer Katerina Irko ( Katerina Irko Wedding Project ) notes that does not necessarily have to make the bride’s morning white, powdery and airy .“Black always looks very stylish, elegant and luxurious. And the tenderness, light and love that the bride radiates will ideally complement and create the most beautiful wedding image. ”

Katerina Irko Wedding Project

The key to success is good mood

Do you know what exactly will be remembered by your guests for a long time? Not a multi-storey wedding cake and not even an enchanting performance by invited artists, although, of course, they will also be remembered. Your smile ! This is what will make your holiday unforgettable.Happy and relaxed , benevolent hostess of the celebration, who gives a good mood to everyone around , is able to outshine any delights that you can afford. Therefore, try to carefully prepare for Day X. And, no, we are not talking about organizational concerns, which, on the contrary, will make you nervous and irritable: it is better to delegate such chores to wedding coordinator . On the eve of the ceremony, you need to put yourself in order emotionally and physically – to relax! If everything is going as it should, then all preparations for are over and the most important thing now is to gain strength to get great pleasure from the wedding day!

Alexander Nesterov

Remember convenience

Of course, every bride wants to be the most beautiful at her wedding. But beauty is not always convenient . Make sure you feel comfortable throughout your wedding day in advance. All of our bridal professionals emphasize such important points as replacement shoes and beauty without sacrificing comfort . With the first point, everything is clear – take a pair of comfortable shoes (for example, ballet flats) with you, believe me, you will be grateful for your prudence, because no shoes can be comfortable throughout the entire wedding evening. In addition, the specialists of wedding boutique Wonderwhite remind that in case of worn-out feet, bride’s first aid kit should contain plaster , as well as silicone pads for shoes and stick for calluses , which should be treated with feet before wear shoes, or when discomfort occurs.

The second point is neglected by many brides, from which we, together with experts, discourage you with all our might. A wedding dress should be not just beautiful, but comfortable .If you do not want to make concessions, then the perfect solution can be two wedding dresses – one for the official ceremony, the second – for the active part of the evening.

Wonderwhite Wedding Boutique

So, our main advice to the bride on her wedding day is to relax and have fun! In this list I describe various wedding little things without which it is quite possible to do without, but traditionally they are present at weddings. Whether they are at your wedding or not – the decision is yours. These are just a few points where little things can save your wedding budget. Or you can spend it on the contrary and do it beautifully.

Posters for the ransom, and the ransom of the bride itself. A strange custom in the modern world. I am writing about this in detail in this article “Why do you need a ransom?”

Pillow for rings. She is only needed in the registry office, and for photographing rings during training camps. (more about the pillow and holders for rings with photos)
In the registry office, you can use their saucer, you can use your own pillow. The choice is yours.

Painted whipping glasses – everything is simple here, you can buy the most economical weddings, cheap glasses in Auchan, tie ribbons on them.

Glasses of the newlyweds for the banquet. It is quite possible to do with the usual ones.

Chest for gifts (money) . Not a very convenient accessory, but for some reason many brides liked it. Usually placed on the table of the newlyweds. Envelopes with cash gifts are put there. Alas, it often happens that the envelopes do not fit there. In addition, I do not advise leaving a large amount in front of everyone.

Decorations for cars . You can buy ready-made kits, you can do it yourself. It is important to remember that when installing jewelry on the roof or bonnet, it is important not to scratch the paint. The speed of a car with such modifiers is usually limited to 40-60 km / h, then there is a risk that they will be blown away.
But there are some positive aspects to decorating cars. If you are moving in a motorcade, then you can be seen on the road and respectable drivers will not break the convoy.

Spread . (I don’t know what to call it, then what you can be sprinkled at the entrance from the registry office or at the entrance to the restaurant).
You can buy artificial rose petals (more expensive), you can buy natural ones in almost any flower kiosk.
They also buy firecrackers from candy for sprinkling. Whether you want it or not, it’s up to you

Folder for marriage certificate It is better to buy a folder in advance. At the door of the registry office, the folder will be 3 times more expensive. (although you can do without it).

Lock . Fashionable wedding accessory. Usually hung on bridges or fences. It should be noted that in Moscow there are only a few places where you can legally attach locks. In other places they are cut down.

Towel, salt shaker and loaf . With these items, the newlyweds are greeted by their parents at the entrance to the banquet hall. Is it possible to do without them – yes you can.

Icon . For a parental blessing for a happy family life, then the icon is transferred to the newly-made family.

Album for wishes – In the restaurant the album is passed around or left in a conspicuous place and guests can leave wishes for the newlyweds there.

Invitations for guests – they are usually made and given to guests before the wedding. Such invitations will remain for guests later as a souvenir. For invitations, you can use the photos that we will take on the love-store.

Gifts for guests . Guests give gifts to the newlyweds for the wedding.
Some newlyweds also want to thank their guests with small but pleasant gifts – surprises.
In addition, gifts are needed for contests to be hosted by the host.
One of the options for such gifts are chocolates with your photographs or fridge magnets, which we will take with you on Love-story. I will also help you make magnets and chocolates.

Spark plugs . Before buying candles for a wedding, coordinate the use of an open fire with the restaurant where you will be hosting the wedding. Candles can be used during the ceremony of transferring the family hearth, during the farewell dance, and just on the tables.

Cake figurine . The wedding cake is traditionally decorated with a symbolic figurine in the shape of a groom and a bride, swans or something else. But it is also not necessary at all. Nowadays, many weddings, especially in rustic style, do without it.

Devices for cutting cake – of course, the restaurant will provide you with such devices, but if you want your own, in the style or color of the wedding, then you can think about their purchase and design.

  • Bridesmaid Dresses .It makes sense to dress your girlfriends in dresses if you have an off-site registration and have time to show off in these dresses and make a beautiful photo session with your girlfriends.
  • Insignia for guests and witnesses (ties, boutonnieres, bouquets, bracelets, etc.)

Wedding omens, superstitions and other “it is necessary”

Our ancestors left us with a surplus of something, but will accept the superstitions associated with the wedding. One can only imagine how good it was before married couples who fulfilled several dozen of all the conventions “for luck”. We at YesYes are sure that it is not rituals that bring happiness to a husband and wife. But if you prefer to be careful, or want to reassure the older generation – catch the article on wedding signs. Just remember: do not read without a smile!

You’ve probably heard that you shouldn’t let anyone try on your wedding rings. And your shoes on the wedding day should be closed and without laces. You will also need to have four special things with you on your wedding day. Something new, something old, something alien and something blue. But this grandmother’s “it should be so” does not end there! And do not even try to figure out why it is necessary this way. Now we will list many traditional conventions for you, and if you wish, you can choose the most attractive for you and your beloved. Follow them and reassure yourself and your relatives: you are guaranteed many years of a happy marriage!

On the eve of the wedding

  • Even if the newlyweds have been living together for several years, they should spend the night before the wedding ceremony separately from each other.Often, the bride goes to be bored, or rather to sleep, to her parents. If she wants to stay in her apartment, the groom leaves.
  • If someone sneezes in the family of the future wife on the eve of the wedding day – to a strong and happy marriage.
  • In anticipation of a happy day, the bride is forbidden to knit things for her beloved. The sign says that such an occupation, albeit with the best intentions, will lead to the breaking of the marriage bond.
  • There is a superstition that just before the wedding ceremony, the bride and groom should not take joint photographs.
  • By the omen, we are waiting for the happiness of the young, at whose holiday there are an odd number of invitees. Guests’ outfits in black are strictly prohibited.
  • It is better to choose an unmarried girl as a bridesmaid, and the groom’s friend must be single, otherwise the marriage will be fragile.

On the wedding day

  • On the way from the entrance to the car, it is customary to shower newlyweds with millet, wheat, rice, small coins, sweets and rose petals. So that family life is rich, sweet, beautiful and prosperous.
  • Approaching the registry office, the car of the young people beeps loudly – this scares away and drives away all evil spirits, which means that peace and tranquility are promised in the family!
  • Rain and snow on your wedding day should be sincerely rejoicing, because they say the road to family life is clean. And the bride does not threaten to return to her parents with a broken heart.
  • When newlyweds go to the ceremony, it is important to be attentive. Not letting anyone cross your path is a sign of impending betrayal, not stumbling over the sills is a sign of quarrels and disagreements.
  • Breaking a loaf, the newlyweds take the top for themselves, and the rest of the bread should be eaten by the guests – to the financial well-being of the couple.
  • At a wedding, you need to blow out the candles strictly at the same time – in order to live happily ever after and die on the same day.
  • Having drunk champagne from wedding glasses, they should be smashed to smithereens for happiness. Moreover, according to the omen, the fragments can reveal to the young the secret of the sex of their unborn child: small fragments – to the daughter, large – to the son.
  • If, after painting, a husband and wife look together in a large mirror, their faces will radiate happiness for many years, people say.

Signs regarding a wedding dress

  • Wednesday is considered a good day for trying on and buying a dress and veil, and it is better to plan the choice of shoes on Friday.
  • According to the sign, the bride should choose one piece attire. To be at a wedding in a corset and a skirt is a separate life.
  • The bride’s underwear is snow-white, as a symbol of fidelity.
  • A bride should never show herself to her future spouse in a wedding dress until X.
  • Superstition also forbids the bride to look in the mirror in a completed wedding image. If you want to admire yourself – you need to take off any piece of clothing, and the easiest way is to put the bouquet aside. If you believe it, seeing herself in all her glory, the bride runs the risk of being left alone after the wedding.
  • If the dress is with buttons, their number should be an even number – to agreement between the spouses. But if there are no fasteners in the wedding dress at all, an easy childbirth awaits the young spouse, according to legend.
  • Pearl jewelry cannot be worn on a wedding day – to tears, our great-grandmothers used to say.
  • The groom needs to put a coin in his right shoe and let him go with it all the wedding day. Corn, of course, is provided for him, but, according to superstition, the spouses will have plenty of money!

At the banquet

  • At the wedding banquet, the newly made husband and wife should not just sit next to each other, but on a common bench. Our great-grandmothers believed that this is the guarantee of a long and friendly family life.
  • Having laid a pair of fur coats on a bench, with fur up, they believed that they were attracting wealth to a young family.
  • On the banquet table, be sure to put two bottles of champagne, tightly tied together with a beautiful ribbon. After the holiday, the bottles are taken home and stored. The first tradition requires drinking on the wedding anniversary, and the second on the birth of the first child.
  • During the banquet, young people should not leave drinks in glasses – they need to drink to the bottom. The sign says that the remnants of wine or champagne in the glasses of the young are to tears in the marriage life.
  • Cutting the wedding cake also needs to be done correctly. The bride cuts, the groom holds her hand with a knife. She puts the first piece to him, then he to her.
  • Husband and wife should only dance with each other at a wedding. An exception is the compulsory dance with the parents. Otherwise, there will be a lot of betrayal and deception in married life.
  • It is a good omen when a spouse already at the wedding begins to carry his beloved in his arms (taking it out of the parents’ house, from the registry office, bringing it into his house after the wedding banquet).Firstly, it promises the young family love and harmony in the home, and secondly, the beginning of a good habit!

And let only one of the guests come up with the idea of presenting a set of knives and forks for a wedding to a couple – drive it immediately!

We in no way want to belittle the wisdom of past generations and the experience accumulated over the years. Remember, only what we ourselves believe in comes true! Unlimited happiness to your future family!

90,000 “Before the wedding, go to the cemetery!” Wedding beliefs and traditions

Ransom of the bride. How much will you sell?

The wedding boom in the city usually occurs in the summer, and in the countryside in the fall. However, as it turns out, timelines are not the only difference between urban and rural weddings.

In many villages, weddings are still played “like a grandfather”, with matchmakers and ransoms. In this case, the village ransom takes place as follows: in the bride’s yard, the wedding procession is met by teenagers (relatives and neighbors of the bride), armed with brooms, sticks, buckets. They guard the closed gates so as not to let the groom to the bride without a ransom. The gates are opened only after the groom’s boyfriend gives the ransom. Then he goes to the house to “buy back” the table and the bride’s braid. The table is “sold” by the eldest bridegroom: she has been bargaining for a long time, although the amount is known in advance. The scythe is “sold” by a boy – a relative of the bride, he receives sweets and gingerbread. This is where the village ransom usually ends.

Sometimes the bride’s side dresses up the “dummy” bride and plants her outside the door with flowers. From such a bride, the groom must “pay off”. However, this custom is also observed by many townspeople.

In some villages of Chuvashia, the tradition has been preserved to meet the groom with bread and salt, a white blanket that is spread under his feet, and money that is thrown on the ground. The larger the bill, the more valuable the future spouse. The custom of buying a bride in the countryside is accompanied by ritual songs of older women. Friends are actively helping the groom: in order not to fork out once again, they climb over the gate, open simple village locks with master keys.

The modern urban ransom is not much like the village one.The arrival of the groom at the bride’s house is accompanied by loud car signals and, if possible, playing a musical instrument (button accordion, guitar). At the entrance, the wedding delegation is met by a witness and the bride’s friends. Two girlfriends use a satin ribbon to block the entrance to the staircase, and the witness holds in her hands a tray containing three boxes, one of which contains scissors. Each unsuccessful attempt to cut the ribbon costs the groom a certain amount, usually expressed in dollar terms.

After the groom passes the first wedding test, the witness tells about the second: “Ascending the stairs to the bride’s apartment, the groom must make promises on every step.” For example, such as giving flowers to the bride every Saturday. In some cases, the groom had to overcome 9 floors.

Note that the witnesses keep all the money received from the tests. “Navar” will be the more, the better the girlfriends show ingenuity and ingenuity.

Wedding with local flavor

The “wedding train” of the Tatar-Mishars always drives up to the bride’s house from the right side. By tradition, he is greeted with shots. In some villages, the custom has been preserved to put a small child on the bride’s lap so that the young have many children. According to one of the beliefs, it is better to put a little boy on your lap.

Coming out of the car, the Tatar bride scatters the change that the children pick up. The groom and the bride walk arm in arm to the groom’s house, sometimes the groom carries the bride in his arms to the house, the porch. At this time, they are showered with sweets, trifles, chigeldek (lump sugar).

In the Ulyanovsk region there is a tradition to put pins and needles in the hem of the bride’s dress with a “cross”. According to legend, they protect the bride from the evil eye. According to another sign, on the wedding day, the bride should not step on the threshold.

In Altai, before the very beginning of the wedding ceremony, the braids of the future wife are unraveled. This ceremony symbolizes the farewell to the girl’s life. The culmination of the Altai wedding is the bride pouring oil into the fire of the hearth. If she misses or the fire goes out for some reason, then this means that the spirits of the groom’s family do not want to accept the bride.

An interesting custom existed among the Tunka Buryats. The bride went to the wedding in men’s clothes, and a one-year-old boy was dressed up in her wedding suit, who accompanied the bride until the moment came to dress her in a wedding suit. In many places, the bride’s face was covered with a scarf or veil with slits for the eyes on the way. According to legends, in this way it was possible to circumvent evil spirits and save the bride from their hostile actions.

In the Kuban, one of the pre-wedding customs was a visit to the cemetery. The bride, if she did not have parents, went there on the eve of the wedding, sometimes on the wedding day or the day before, but in any case early in the morning or even at night. At the grave of her father or mother, she lamented, asked for their blessings, and the girlfriends who accompanied her on the way to the cemetery sang.

In recent years, on the Don more and more often they began to celebrate weddings in the Cossack traditions. Waiting for the appearance of the bride and groom, a Cossack patrol is set up in the village.A cannon volley notifies about the approach of the young – a signal that beckons the villagers to the Cossack circle, during which the fate of the future couple is decided. In the middle of the circle, the bride and groom recite the old Cossack formula of fidelity: “Be my wife” and “Be my husband.” With exclamations of “Love!” The Cossacks approve of the choice of the young, and the circle declares them to be spouses.

Chechens still have two main types of marriage: ordinary matchmaking and the so-called “bride kidnapping.”

Symbol of chastity

In Russia, the traditional dress of the bride was red.The color revolution was made by Catherine the Great – it was she who first put on a white dress, laying the foundation for a new tradition.

However, as one of the publications notes, the true symbol of the bride’s chastity is not a white dress, but a veil. The tradition of exchanging wedding rings was supposedly invented by the Egyptians. The round shape of the ring is a symbol of eternity, endless happiness and love between spouses.

Roman loaf at a Russian wedding

The wedding loaf came to Russia from Ancient Rome: at the beginning of the era, the Roman bride and groom were not recognized as spouses until they simultaneously ate a piece of wedding cake – far.The marriage itself was called confarreatio by the Romans.

In Russia, the tradition of the wedding loaf still exists today, albeit in a slightly modified version: somewhere the loaf is broken, and somewhere it is bitten off. Whoever broke off a larger piece will be the master of the house.

Clinking glasses and pots

Not a single modern wedding is complete today without breaking dishes. In the cities, the newlyweds break the first glass for good luck, and in the villages – an earthen pot. In Russia, a broken vessel was considered a proof of the bride’s chastity. And in general it was believed that the more fragments, the more happiness.

Rule of Five
