Book the life plan: How Any Man Can Achieve Lasting Health, Great Sex, and a Stronger, Leaner Body: Life M.D. Ph.D., Jeffry S.: 9781439194591: Books

“The Life Plan Diet” (Book Review)

Getting lean and being healthy for a long life is pretty much everyone’s goal. The problem is, these long-term goals may not seem immediate enough to strive for now. For people who don’t have an immediate urge for long-term health, but want to do something that will make a difference now, The Life Plan Diet is a great place to start.

The Life Plan Diet was written by Dr. Life. Yes, that’s his name, Jeffry Life. Life was a physician working at a family practice when he became fed up with his own appearance and health at the age of 59, so he took on and won the Body for Life contest. He is now nearing eighty years old and looks great.

About the Book

The book opens by giving a lot of great reasons why we should get lean. Dr. Life defines lean as less than fifteen percent body fat, which he says that any man of any age should strive for. Some diet books consider fat burning to be a given goal for readers. Others give the old standby reasons of metabolic syndrome, diabetes, heart disease, and appearance. Life does the latter in this book, with the science in tow, but he also gives some other reasons that might also speak to the younger men who aren’t looking at the long-term consequences just yet.

The other reasons for getting lean might be snoring and other sleep problems, as well as sexual dysfunction. You know, things every man wants to avoid right now. And if you’re not sure if these things have begun to affect you yet, he gives questionnaires to help determine your situation. He goes on to explain how stress alters eating and eating alters stress, which can in turn ruin your health and your progress.

Tools for Success

Once the rationale is explained, Dr. Life describes how to measure your progress. For me, this is the key to the book, and what separates it from other books of its kind. As a strength coach and a nutritionist, I think consistent progress is critical. The only way consistent progress is assured is with reliable and easy-to-use metrics and tools to measure it. Dr. Life gives you a few ways to measure where you are, then gives you charts to track what you’ve measured.

The Diet Plan

After that we get into the diet itself. Dr. Life discusses how and why to choose the best foods. There’s also a full-blown shopping list, as well as weeks worth of meals that ramp up to the full diet. The diet includes fasting, so be prepared for that. I’m a fan of fasting myself, and I think it’s great that it’s included here. Like everything else, the reasoning is explained.

The diet consists of periods of fasting, followed about normal days of around four meals. Each meal is set to a specific macronutrient profile, and Dr. Life outlines and provides many examples to help you select foods. He focuses on low glycemic options that are high in fiber, micronutrients, and protein and can be modified pretty easily for people with special dietary needs. There are no real surprises in the diet, and that’s a great thing as it sticks to what we know works.

There are only a few things I don’t love about the book. The concepts are nothing new, which isn’t bad, but as a result it might be a bit outdated at times. For example, he talks about low fat diets and the evils of saturated fat, which is losing some of its scientific backing of late. His description of the paleo diet is also a misrepresentation. All that said, none of these criticisms are damning.

All in all, I think this is a great book for people who are looking to get in shape. Even more importantly, it’s a solid resource to help them stay in shape once they get there. Dr. Life is a great example himself. You’ll find this book gives you everything you need to get healthy.

In a sleepy seaside town in Maine, recently widowed Eveleth “Evvie” Drake rarely leaves her large, painfully empty house nearly a year after her husband’s death in a car crash. How a Life Plan Changed My Life

As we get older, it seems like the days, weeks, months, years go by very fast. My parents used to say this when we were kids, but I never understood. I used to think they were crazy, after all, every day seemed to go so slowly for me. Now as an adult, I have learned that time slips away when we do not live with a plan for our lives.  We have a life plan in action or we end up in an accidental life.

Over the last few years, I have learned the importance of living with intentional action in my life. When we consider that we only have a finite time here on earth, why would we live without a plan? I am not trying to be morbid. We will live only so long. And when we come to the end of our lives we should have as few regrets as possible.

“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” – Psalm 90:12

This year, I took to heart the idea of numbering our days to gain wisdom. Michael Hyatt recently published a book called Living Forward. It walks through creating a life plan. While reading this book the first time, I realized this is what I needed to start living my best life now. And so, I set out to create my life plan in hopes to number my days and gain a heart of wisdom.

Life Plan: How it Works

This was the first year that I followed the steps of creating a life plan.  At the end of last year, I sat down over the course of a half day and several lunch hours to create this master plan for my life. In the end, I completed a twelve page, living document. This document helps me make decisions on what I do all year long, every month, and down to the week.

I review my life plan quarterly. During the review I make changes and updates to note progress and create new action steps. I review it monthly to help direct my goals for the month. And I review it weekly to make sure that each week I am working toward my goals and the way that I want to live. These reviews keep my life plan fresh in my mind and focused on what is most important to me.

Nine Months Later

After sticking to this process for the last nine months I can say that my Life Plan has changed my life. I used to be a driven person with goals that I set at random. Now I have a plan that dictates day-to-day behaviors that will alter my the direction of my life. It has helped me to live intentionally, begin to write, and treasure my time with my family.

“I have a plan that dictates day-to-day behaviors that will alter my the direction of my life.” – J.R. Heimbigner (Tweet This)

There has been a new focus for me on my priorities. It has been almost magical to see how one little document can alter the course of a year. After this experience, everyone should have a life plan. More people in the world would be doing what they love and enjoying their lives if they had a life plan.

Final Thought

If there is one book that you might read in the last quarter of this year, I suggest you read Michael Hyatt’s Living Forward. It has changed my life, and I know it will change your life too.

“A plan in the heart of a man is like deep water, but a man of understanding draws it out.” – Proverbs 20:5

90,000 How to effectively prioritize and plan your life

In the world of the people around us, there are more successful and less successful people. There are those who have realized themselves in many areas, manages his life and understands what he wants to achieve in the future. And there are those who “go with the flow” . And all this is our own choice.

Meanwhile, you can learn to control your own destiny. To do this, you need to master the art of correctly prioritizing and realizing yourself in all areas of life that we need for happiness and moving forward. How do you learn this?

Secret one: there are no universal recipes suitable for everyone! But this does not mean that you cannot use the experience gained and tested by other people. On the contrary, you need to start with this. And the advice of coaches, business coaches and psychologists can be corrected and adapted to suit your needs later.

    Main and secondary goals

Do you have the most important, main goal in life? What is the most important goal this year? Surprisingly, the English word Priority, which arose in the 15th century, did not have a plural for more than five hundred years of its existence! It seemed right and normal for people to have a single, most important goal. This situation persisted until the twentieth century. Now, in any company and at any meeting, ten or more priority tasks are set for the employees only for the current day.

If you let this principle into your life, then the feeling of being a squirrel running in a wheel will remain with you until retirement. Learn to reduce the number of priorities and clearly understand what your main task is – for a start, at least for today.

At the same time, immediately try to understand whether this is your goal, or imposed on you from the outside – by friends, relatives, leadership, and so on.In our society, the volume of contacts with other people is so great that it is difficult to distinguish what we ourselves want to do from what society imposes on us. Therefore, more than half of the time is often spent on things that are not important to ourselves, but urgent and important for others.

This does not mean that one should refuse to help other people. But it is important to realize that these are not your tasks, and you are engaged in them, willingly postponing your own affairs for later.

Five steps to manage your time

Time-management principles are extremely popular now, which allow you to make life more meaningful, organized and harmonious.Volumes have been written about time management, and still a huge number of psychologists and coaches continue to teach people how to properly manage their time.

Remember, it is much more important not to talk about it, but to start implementing at least some of the principles of time management into your own life, and you yourself will understand which techniques are suitable for you and which are not. These principles are quite simple, but it is important to systematically implement them.

Photo: Alan Katsiev (MTRK Mir) Mir 24

The first that needs to be done is to highlight the very priorities that have already been discussed. In practice, this is difficult, so you need to make a list of the most important, global goals. And then filter it by importance and urgency. This must be done. Here is what counseling psychologist Victoria Timofeeva said about this to Mir 24:

“If you don’t plan your future, if you don’t have a goal or plan, then you are like a boat drifting aimlessly in the ocean, hoping to find yourself where somewhere in a good place. Agree, it’s stupid to wait for this. Just like GPS guides you to your destination, you need your own internal GPS to guide you. “

The second step is to subdivide the large volume plans into a list of smaller tasks that can actually be done. Don’t delay starting a big job! When the plan is voluminous, it scares you, but as soon as you start doing the first of the points, the path to the final appears as a list of quite feasible tasks.

The third step is to refuse to do minor things. Focus only on the essentials! This is called the Pareto principle. It says that 80% of the positive results we get with only 20% of the effort. And all the rest of our energy is spent on the remaining small to-do list. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out only what we can be effective at. And what remains is better to outsource, delegate, or even dismiss it as not the most important thing.

Fourth – by all means bring to the end the execution of one or two postponed tasks a day.

And finally, fifth – evaluate your efficiency, improve it all the time.Do not give up long-term affairs halfway, but bring them to their logical conclusion and set new goals.

That’s all. Although each of the points can be expanded into several lectures. But instead of endlessly studying theory, it is better to take methods invented by other people and try to apply them yourself. You will quickly understand what is right for you and what is not. After all, managing your time is just a skill. But it makes our life much more meaningful and structured.

Plans for a year, for a week, for a month

In parallel with long-term planning, which still needs to mature, it is worth starting to create more understandable and realistic plans for the day and for the week. Ideally, you should have related plans for a year, for a month, for a week, for a day.

Plans for next year are best written at the end of the previous one, but in January it is not too late to think about it, of course. First, formulate your main goals and mark the main events. When will they happen? Now start planning your vacation! Write down the vacation and where you will spend it, as well as any vacations, trips and travels in your annual plan. Now decide when you should start organizing them in order to buy the best and cheapest tickets and book hotels.

    Photo: Angelica Safronova, Mir 24

Your annual plan should also include something new that you plan to do, be it learning a language, losing weight or training, changing jobs or renovating an apartment.Designate important dates, and not only those related to work or study, but also hobbies and personal life.

Plans for the month are written in the same way, but with a more detailed elaboration of the deadlines. They need to be written at the end of the previous month, and then they can be corrected, as well as annual plans – this is normal!

Make sure that the first plan for the month reflects the global goals that are in the annual. The sooner you start implementing them, the better! It is better to immediately assess the “scale of the disaster” and understand what constitutes about a tenth of what needs to be done in the first month. It is the tenth, not the twelfth, because there will be more vacations and vacations during which you will be busy with rest, not business.

Don’t forget your friends’ birthdays, family visits and other visits. Write down all plans in the calendar. Find out which scheduling apps are convenient for you. Try some electronic and paper organizers or other planning tools.

Weekly plans are made on Sunday evening, or Friday if it is more convenient for you. Here it is necessary to clearly filter out unimportant matters! How to fill your week is not a question. But how to find time for the main thing? Therefore, start with the main thing. Write to the plan what moves you towards the priority goals that you formulated in the annual plan.

Decisively write in the weekly plan what you were going to start, but were postponed or afraid. Would you like to exercise three times a week? Time to schedule your workout days and times!

It is better to reflect in the weekly plan everything that will require your time and mental resources in order to properly distribute them and eliminate all unnecessary or unnecessary.Do not forget to leave in the plan time for communication with children and family, for meeting friends, pleasure and relaxation!

Daily planning is the most important thing. After all, it is from days that our life is formed. This means that it is at this stage that we design all our future successes and failures. It is best to plan your day in the evening of the previous day. So you already give yourself an installation in advance that you will cope with everything and will have time for everything planned, and wake up immediately with this knowledge.

Photo: Alan Katsiev (MTRK Mir) Mir 24

Arrange tasks in the list in order of priority and do only the most urgent and important first.Leaving the hardest for later can put you in a state of stress. It is better to quickly cope with everything difficult or unpleasant and exhale.

True, some psychologists argue that this strategy is not suitable for everyone. After all, you need to take into account your own biorhythms too. If you are a “night owl” and your peak of activity occurs in the afternoon, then perhaps the tactic of gradually increasing the complexity of the tasks performed will be more effective for you. One way or another, your to-do list for the day should always be at your fingertips. If at the end of the day everything was crossed out, then your efficiency was at its best!

SMART – a technique that works wonders?

Life-coach from Rostov-on-Don Dana Doronina shares her secrets with Mir 24 readers. One of the most effective, and at the same time simple, in its practical application, she considers the SMART methodology, which is used in management, goal setting and, of course, in planning. Here’s what it consists of: Once you begin to control your time and prioritize, it is very important to monitor compliance with the five aspects that hide behind the acronym SMART.

S (Specific) – specificity . When making plans, you should have a clear idea of what the final result you want to achieve will look like. For example, the goal “lose weight this month” is a vague goal. A more correct formulation is “to lose 5 kg this month”.

M (Measurable) – Measurable . You must define for yourself the criteria by which you will judge the implementation of your plan. In addition, you can designate for yourself the lower and upper levels – the indicators are the minimum (below which you cannot go down in the implementation of the plan) and the maximum (your best result).

A (Attainable) – attainable . At the stage of determining achievability, it is necessary to answer the question: “Is the task at hand real for me?” If, for example, you are overweight and have set yourself a goal to lose 20 kg in a month. – then this goal belongs to the category of unattainable. In this case, it is necessary to adjust it and replace it with a more achievable and realistic one. For example, lose weight by 8 kg.

While working out the point of attainability of the goal, you also need to identify those tools and ways with which you can achieve this goal.In the example with weight loss, these may be the following options: visit a nutritionist, start jogging in the morning, change your diet, take certain medications, sign up for a massage. Your task is to evaluate all the resources that, in theory, you can use to achieve the goal. After you analyze them, you will need to choose the ones that you can actually put into practice.

R (Relevant) – value . When determining the significance of a goal, ask yourself: “Do I really want to get this result?”Maybe this is not your goal and you will only waste your energy and time. Also analyze how this goal is consistent with your other plans, those that were set earlier. Does she not come into conflict with them, will she not violate the peace of mind of your loved ones?

T (Time-bound) – time indicator. The difference between a project and a dream and a simple desire is that the project has a clearly defined period of time in which you will implement it.So it is necessary to register the date of the start of work on the project and the date of its completion.

According to Life-coach Dana Doronina, her clients who used this technique received results in a short time that brought them to a new round of personal growth.

    Madame Penicillin

Life and scientific heritage of Zinaida Vissarionovna Ermolyeva
    April 28 – December 31

Everyone knows that the British bacteriologist Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin from the school curriculum. But almost no one knows that at almost the same time, another antibiotic, crustosin, was being developed in the Soviet Union. Krustozin was developed by microbiologist Zinaida Ermolyeva with colleagues from the Institute of Experimental Medicine. As is often the case in science, in two countries, two different scientists had the same ideas about saving lives.

Zinaida Yermolyeva devoted her first studies to the fight against cholera, she even conducted experiments on herself. Her experience came in handy during the fight against the cholera outbreak in Afghanistan in 1939 and later, when the Great Patriotic War began, in Stalingrad.

To combat cholera, Yermolyeva organized universal vaccination in Stalingrad, supplied the population and soldiers with the cholera bacteriophage, which she developed, a virus that destroys cholera bacteria. For the feat in Stalingrad, she received the Stalin Prize, which she immediately donated to the new aircraft “Everything for the front, everything for victory.

And after Stalingrad, Zinaida Ermolyeva faced a new task – the development of an antibiotic. In 1942, Yermolyeva managed to obtain her penicillin from a strain of the fungus species Penicillium crustosum .Foreign colleagues called Ermolyeva “Madame Penicillin”.

The exhibition is dedicated to the life and scientific heritage of Zinaida Ermolyeva (1897-1974). A small exhibition will acquaint you with the main milestones in the biography of a scientist, present her most important scientific achievements, and make it possible to understand the scale of her personality. In addition, the exhibition will show fragments of the objective world of the microbiologist’s laboratory: samples of materials and equipment used by scientists of this specialty.

The life of Zinaida Vissarionovna fell on a very turbulent era in the history of our country, but despite all the difficulties she managed to do surprisingly much. This volume of work would be more than enough for several scientific biographies. Her life was filled with many events, both joyful and tragic. Our exhibition will make sure of this.
