Best beauty advent calendars 2021

Harper’s Bazaar

If you’ve never indulged in the joy of a beauty advent calendar, 2021 may well be the time to do so. Recent years have seen beauty calendars grow from a nice-but-niche treat to a behemoth category, with everyone from Cult Beauty to Feelunique, and even luxury retail stalwarts such as Net-a-Porter creating their own offerings.

Beauty advent calendars: what’s all the fuss about?

So, what’s the appeal? Really, the draw of the beauty calendar is two-fold. Firstly, there’s the complete joy of unwrapping a hair, skin or make-up surprise every day throughout December: trust us, an unexpected bath oil is the perfect tonic to a manic festive schedule. Then, there’s the savings: the best beauty calendars come packed with premium products, often at a tiny fraction of the usual cost. They really are the best way to discover a wealth of buzzy new launches and iconic classics, without having to invest in the full-size products.

When do the 2021 beauty advent calendars go on sale?

If you’re new to the cult of the beauty advent calendar, the thought of snapping one before you’ve bought your winter coat may seem strange. But such is the demand for these hefty collections that many sell out before you’ve even unpacked the Christmas decorations. However, if you’ve not treated yourself just yet, it’s not too late. Many of the most luxurious offerings are still available, and some have even slipped into the seasonal sales. Happy shopping…

25 Best Beauty Advent Calendars 2021

Christmas is almost here, so it’s officially time to pick out an annual advent calendar. And sure, you can stick to tradition and count down to Christmas by eating teeny-tiny Santa chocolates or sipping on mini bottles of booze (okay, we can still get behind wine advent calendars), but if you really want to treat yourself (or whoever else you’re shopping for) this December, go with one of these beauty advent calendars instead.

Tucked inside these advent calendars, you’ll find the very best in makeup, skincare and perfume from leading brands like NYX, Benefit and IT Cosmetics. Some go all-out on one type of product (OPI’s advent calendar comes with 25 mini nail polishes), while others give you a balanced mix of travel- and full-size products from Glossybox, Sephora, Ulta and other top retailers, tackling different needs, skin types, complexions and just about everything else.

So, maybe you’re looking for an excuse to try out new products without splurging on a perfume or makeup gift set. Or perhaps, you simply want to restock her collection with products she uses daily. Either way, you’re sure to find something on this list to make any beauty-obsessed heart happy this holiday.

How to create Spider-Man?

Comics are comics, but we, humble and obviously shy polymers, came up with this too. More precisely, polymers figured out how to make the most important part for a spiderman: an artificial web.

At its core, the spider web is silk. So, we take a spider web, run it through nuclear magnetic resonance, X-rays and a couple of spectroscopies. Now we know for sure the quality of his web, which is what? That’s right, a spider web is a polymer made up of monomers, which in English are sometimes called “spiderrons” (or how would you translate “spidroins”?).

Then we take the poor spider and take out his DNA sample. We now have cDNA libraries that program the sequence of spiderrons in the web. We take out the genes we need (it sounds like you can get them with a needle, but no, this is hellish work that I could not read in the scientific literature…. I’m a polymer). And then we make the bacteria produce our webs.

And now we include what we already know: we are creating a biosensor based on polymers, which I talked about a few days ago. We set it up for adrenaline, for example. We put bacteria and some kind of catalyst in there to speed up the process. We put this in the first Peter Parker we come across. And we throw the last one from the roof of a skyscraper 😃 what could go wrong? 😅 Spider-Man is ready!

I hope I have amused you with another window of the scientific advent calendar 😊 Seriously though, artificial spider webs can help make unique fabrics. It is a very durable material. And eco-friendly. Plus speedrons (I still don’t know what to call spidroins in Russian) can form hydrogels, which we have already discussed. Remember boobs, diapers? Here is the same material. Super-strong boobs can be made for WonderWomen 😃 And speedrons form microcapsules well – this is a common way of delivering drugs to the desired organ.

Here is such a polymer! Is he worthy of your husky, shmak and zhmak?

90,000 Angela Merkel will say goodbye to the post of chancellor to the song of the “mother of punk rock” Nina Hagen

News

Angela Merkel

On December 2, a solemn ceremony will take place to commemorate the departure of Angela Merkel from the post of German Chancellor, which she held for almost 16 years.Due to coronavirus restrictions, the event will not be too large-scale: only 200 people will be invited to it. It will take place in the courtyard of the German Ministry of Defense in Berlin.

Some details of the upcoming event are already known, including quite unexpected ones. Thus, according to Spiegel, the list of songs personally chosen by the Chancellor for the ceremony includes the 1974 song Du hast den Farbfilm vergessen (“You Forgot Your Color Film”) – the hit of Nina Hagen, who is called “the mother of German punk”.

Nina Hagen
For Merkel, Hagen’s early work is probably nostalgia for youth: at the time the song was released, the future German chancellor was 20 years old. During the ceremony, the composition of the legendary punk rocker will be performed by a military orchestra.

Other selected pieces of music by Merkel include a song by the German singer Hildegard Knef, popular in the 1950s and 1960s, and the Christian hymn Großer Gott, wir loben dich (“God, we praise you”), written in the 18th century.

It is a long-standing German tradition that politicians choose the songs to which they retire. According to a Spiegel source, Merkel expressed a desire to make her ceremony “unusually emotional.”

90,000 Why are they tortured in Russia / vDud

If there are air tickets, then on Aviasales

This fall, another proof appeared: in Russia, people are tortured regularly and in huge numbers. The Gulagu.net project has published a video in which prisoners in Russian prisons are severely beaten and sexually assaulted. Details of how this video archive appeared can be seen on Gulagu.net itself, as well as on the BBC and Ksenia Sobchak channels.

However, this did not cause a wide public response. Perhaps due to the fact that not everyone can sympathize with those who are in places of imprisonment.

But it so happened that torture is a threat even for those of us who, not only have never been in prison, have never had problems with the law. It so happened that in Russia you can go about your business during the day, in the evening – find yourself in the police station tied to a chair, and in the morning – confess to a crime that you did not commit.

In the episode that you will now see, the emphasis is on precisely this: how people are tortured – often innocent of anything – in the Russian police.

How exactly and why are they tortured? How to live after being tortured? What kind of people have resisted this for many years? And most importantly: is there any chance that in the near future there will be less such lawlessness in Russia?
