Anti aging cc cream: 14 Best CC Creams of 2021

14 Best CC Creams of 2021

courtesy of brands

If you’re looking to cut a few steps (or products) from your morning routine, meet your new favorite multitasker: a CC cream. CC creams (“CC” stands for “color-correcting”) pack sun protection, hydration, and anti-aging benefits into one formula, while also evening your skin tone for a natural-looking finish. Like BB creams or tinted moisturizers, CC creams are great alternatives to traditional foundations.

The Good Housekeeping Institute Beauty Lab experts and editors have the top picks that will leave you looking bright and fresh — even if you didn’t get your beauty sleep. Our chemists reviewed 26 CC creams in the Lab and on 113 consumer testers, and took over 4,000 measurements in our Lab to find the top-performers. Our chemists pre-screen each product with a six-hour moisturization test and begin clinical testing by taking images of consumer testers’ skin before and after CC cream application with the Lab’s Visia Complexion Analyzer to evaluate cosmetic performance (a.

k.a how well each product evens and matches skin tone). After four weeks of use, testers return for another round of images to assess the creams’ anti-aging benefits (reduction of brown spots and fine lines and improvement in skin tone, pores and texture) as well as changes in skin firmness. Meanwhile, each CC cream is being used by women across the country who give honest feedback on performance.

Here are the best CC creams to simplify your beauty routine, including top-tested picks from the GH Beauty Lab, Good Housekeeping Seal stars, best-sellers, and editor favorites:

Best Overall CC Cream

Total Effects Tone Correcting Moisturizer SPF 15

This drugstore color-correcting cream clinched the spot as the best hydrator in our Lab tests — and won a 2017 GH Beauty Award. We found it boosted skin’s moisture levels by 36% over six hours

and reduced the look of brown spots and pores after four weeks, making it perfect for dry skin.  Not to mention, it’s backed by the Good Housekeeping Seal! Good to know: We recommend wearing SPF 30+ daily, so you’ll want to layer another sunscreen under this product to stay protected.

  • Boosts skin moisture levels
  • Reduces look of brown spots and pores
  • Good for dry skin

Best Value CC Cream

Smart Shade CC Cream SPF 35

Great for all skin types, from dry to oily, this drugstore staple performed so well in our Lab tests we gave it a 2017 GH Beauty Award! Smooth it on to mask imperfections, dull skin, and discoloration instantly and long-term. Our chemists found that the lightweight foundation smoothed testers’ skin tone and texture in four weeks.

Now that you know the benefits of adding an anti-aging CC cream to your skin care routine, here are some things to keep in mind before buying one for yourself.

How To Choose Best CC Cream For Mature Skin

1. Ingredients

It shouldn’t come as a surprise, but ingredients go a long way in making creams what they are. The best CC creams include hyaluronic acid, acai berry, shea butter, and aloe vera. They not only provide moisture, improve skin tone and texture and mask blemishes, but they also fight signs of skin aging. Continuous use of these ingredients with vitamins C and E, retinol, and coconut oil reduce wrinkles, fine lines, and dark spots.

2. Harsh chemicals

It is best to move away from harmful chemicals such as parabens, sulfates, mineral oil, and phthalates. These chemicals deprive the skin of moisture and snatch the skin from its natural radiance and glow. These harsh chemicals also strip the skin from natural oils and cause irreversible skin damage that leaves skin looking dry and dull. Hence, it is advisable to choose products that do not contain these chemicals.

3. Texture and formula

Regardless of skin type and tone, you would be doing your skin a favor if you choose a lightweight texture that allows your skin to breathe. Also, selecting non-comedogenic, hypoallergenic formulas ensure that skin is moisturized without clogging the pores or irritating the skin.

Aging skin is beautiful in its own, unique way. The fine lines and wrinkles etched on our skin remind us of how far we’ve come in the long journey of life. But just because aging signs remind us of our long-lived happy lives doesn’t mean we necessarily want them around. Having the best CC creams for mature skin can help us tremendously in correcting dark spots and uneven skin tone while simultaneously fighting signs of skin aging. Many products in the market may overwhelm you with choices. But fret not, because our list of the 11 best CC creams for mature skin will help you narrow down your options to the one.

Best BB Cream, CC Cream and Foundation for Mature Skin

Don’t know the difference between BB cream and CC cream? Not sure what coverage is right for you? When it comes to makeup, there’s a fine line between a great base and a cake face. There seems to be a product for everything at the moment, which is great – if you know what to do with them. With a wealth of options on the market, we decided it was time to hone in on how to properly choose a makeup base that suits you. So, here’s our guide to the best BB cream, CC cream and foundation over 50 and the difference between all three.

BB cream, CC cream and foundation: which should you use?

What is BB cream? What does it stand for? And how does it differ from CC cream or foundation? When it comes to base makeup for older women, there are so many questions to be answered. After all, we’re all searching for ‘the one’ – that product that can transform our confidence and make our skin look glowing. With a plethora of products available, it can be difficult to know what the right base for your skin type is. If you’re wanting to ace your base, a good place to start is by considering these four key areas:

1. Decide what you want from a base product

Is your main concern balancing out skintone? Are you wanting full coverage that easily hides all blemishes and/or helps to conceal a few of those wrinkles? Or are you after a product with a broad spectrum SPF to protect your skin? The key to choosing the right base is thinking about what you want most from a product, so list the properties you are looking for and prioritise them in order of how important they are to you. It’s all about feeling confident, and once you know what you want most from a foundation or cream, you can start searching for the best product for you.

2. Know your skin type

Whether you have normal skin, oily skin, dry skin, sensitive skin or even combination skin, different skin types require different formulations when it comes to makeup. There are so many products geared towards specific skin types, so it’s important to ensure you get the base that gives you what you need. If you’re unsure of your skin type, speak to a consultant at a makeup counter and they will recommend products that have been designed to meet your skin needs. If you have particularly sensitive skin, however, it may be worth consulting your GP to see which products and ingredients you should be avoiding.

3. What shade am I?

One of the drawbacks of BB cream and CC cream compared to foundation is the lack of shades that some brands offer. With some ranges offering only a few shades, it’s unsurprisingly impossible for some women to find a skin tone colour match. Fortunately, some of the latest offerings do have a wider range of shades, although creams typically don’t have as much choice as foundation ranges, and tend to not have shades that acknowledge different undertones. It is worth visiting a makeup counter for a colour match if you are unsure about which shade to go for.

4. Is it long-lasting?

The million-dollar question, of course – because what is the point in investing in a product that you have to reapply several times a day? It’s worth reading reviews online or even asking Gransnet users on our beauty forum for an honest review that goes beyond the brand’s marketing. Alternatively, if you want to try it out for yourself, request a sample in store or have the product tested on you at a makeup counter in the morning and see how it lasts all day before you decide whether or not you want to buy it.

What is the difference between BB cream, CC cream and foundation?

BB and CC creams are one part makeup and one part moisturiser. They act a lot like foundation in that they offer coverage, but, unlike foundation, they don’t feel heavy. When it comes to BB cream versus CC cream, CC cream typically offers more coverage.

Both BB cream and CC cream are easy to apply. All you need to do is blend the product onto your skin using your fingertips or a makeup sponge. They can be worn as a moisturiser or underneath your favourite foundation.

Now you’ve thought about the basics it’s time to choose the right product for you…

What is BB cream?

BB cream is the best option for those lucky ladies who don’t need much in the way of coverage. Standing for Blemish Balm, or sometimes Beauty Balm, BB creams contain several products in one, including moisturiser, foundation and often SPF, cutting down the number of products you need to use beforehand, so don’t be fooled into thinking that it’s only for covering spots.

Its light texture gives a natural look, and it often contains antioxidants that protect and nourish skin, while working to enhance its appearance and even out (as well as brighten) your complexion – it works a little like a tinted moisturiser. It should also help to conceal areas of redness, which can be a godsend for older women. If you’re in the market for a sheer, skin-enhancing product, BB cream a great option. Go for BB cream that contains SPF (at least 15), glycerin (to help hydrate the skin) and Niacinimide (to lift away dead skin cells).

It’s best to avoid BB cream if you have noticeable blemishes that you’d like to cover up, or if you prefer a matte finish, due to its lighter coverage. One of the largest disadvantages of BB cream is the limited shade choice offered, although some brands do fortunately offer more shades than others, but they tend to be pricey.

Best BB cream

  1. Best BB cream for mature skin  Garnier’s BB Cream is specifically geared towards older skin, reducing the appearance of wrinkles, whilst simultaneously working hard to moisturise skin and offer a light coverage.
  2. Best BB cream for normal or oily skin – A little more on the expensive end of the scale is the Bobbi Brown BB Cream. With SPF 35, its multitasking formula protects and perfects skin, and is available in a range of different shades.
  3. Best BB cream for dry skin – Rimmel has a very affordable but good quality 9-in-1 BB Cream that claims to smoothe and hydrate skin, while giving a natural coverage.
  4. Finally, the Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream improves skin’s moisture within four weeks and can be used as a primer under foundation for more coverage.

What is CC cream?

CC cream stands for Colour Corrector or Complexion Corrector and does as it says on the tin – it is designed to correct your complexion and to even out skintone. Similar to BB cream, it is lighter than foundation, but, as aforementioned, most CC cream offers more coverage.

If you have sallow skin, age spots or hyperpigmentation marks, a CC cream will cover them without looking too heavy. They often have a soft texture and will even out redness and blotchiness. If your main skin concern is to do with colour correction, then CC creams are your best option.

Opt for a CC cream that contains antioxident properties plus vitamins C and E to make your skin look glowing and moisturised, and Niacinimide to exfoliate your skin and hide wrinkles.

Best CC cream

  1. Bourjois 123 Perfect CC Cream brightens skin whilst hiding imperfections, thanks to the three pigments it contains that tackle different skin complaints.
  2. Best CC cream for oily skin  Sleek CC Cream offers a medium coverage with the added bonus of vitamin C to protect skin and reduce fine lines.
  3. Best CC cream for dry skin – With SPF 30, Clinique Moisture Surge CC Cream delivers a welcome boost of hydration, while rebalancing tone.
  4. Best CC cream for mature skin – If you’re keen on added anti-ageing benefits, give Olay Regenerist CC Cream a go. The bottle blends serum, moisturiser and sheer foundation together to create a healthy, even complexion.

When to go for foundation

The most familiar of the bases, foundation is often the best option, particularly if you want a fuller coverage. As foundation is so popular, there are so many products available tailored to different requirements. Where BB creams and CC creams tend to have a ‘one-fits-all’ approach, foundation comes in a wider range of shades that take into account undertones and is designed for different skin types. Whether you want a dewy, glowy look or a velvety matte finish, there are options to suit your needs.

It’s just a case of finding the right one for your skin type and knowing how to apply it well. Whether you’re going to a fancy do, are likely to be snapped in lots of photographs, or are just having a rough patch when it comes to your skin, a full coverage foundation is the secret to even and all-over cover. Here are some of our favourites.

Best foundation

Best foundation for oily skin

  1. Revlon Colourstay Foundation is specifically designed for oily, combination skin. It’s a great option for keeping your skin matte all day, and is available in a wide range of shades.
  2. Laura Mercier Silk Creme Oil-Free Foundation is also very good, especially for events you’re likely to be photographed at, as it doesn’t contain the light-reflecting particles that often cause a washed-out look in flash photography.
  3. Matte doesn’t have to mean cakey – Clinique Stay Matte Foundation is another oil-banishing base, with the added bonus of feeling light and soft.

Best foundation for dry skin

  1. L’Oreal True Match has a creamy, but not clingy, texture which is easy to blend. It also comes in a wide range of colours, taking into account the undertone of skin.
  2. Packed with hydration and with SPF 30, Diorskin Forever Fluid Foundation will keep dry skin feeling and looking healthy.
  3. With a hydrating formula, and vitamins to fight signs of fatigue, Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation achieves a radiant complexion.

Best foundation for normal skin

  1. Treat yourself to Estée Lauder Double Wear Foundation. It may be pricey, but it stays in place like nobody’s business.
  2. With SPF 15 and up to 24 hours of staying time, No7 Stay Perfect Foundation is a great choice if you want a product that stays put all day.

Best skincare buys for over 50s

We hate to say it, but whichever product you use, it can only do so much if you haven’t paid proper attention to your skin beforehand. Remember to cleanse, exfoliate and moisturise and you’ll find that makeup sits better on your skin. Here are our selection of best buys to enhance your base and help you to achieve glowing skin over 50

CleanseClarins One-Step Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser is a double-duty product that removes makeup and gently exfoliates at the same time – plus it smells lovely.

MoisturiseClinique Pep-Start Hydroblur Moisturiser acts as a primer for makeup, blurs imperfections and will give you a matte finish.

Prime – If you’re not using a moisturiser like the above, a separate primer will smooth skin and create a surface for makeup to glide and cling onto. Treat yourself to Smashbox’s Photo Finish Foundation Primer.

Use a night cream – Overnight is a key time for rejuvenating skin, so give it a little help with Garnier Anti-Ageing Night Cream. It works hard to minimise the signs of ageing, so skin feels more supple and soft.

How to apply foundation
  1. Blend right into your hairline, around your ears and down your neck to avoid a tell-tale makeup tidal wave.
  2. For full coverage, try a foundation brush or buffing brush for a more natural finish. Buff the product into the skin in circular motions for an airbrushed effect.
  3. For BB and CC cream, a beauty blender is a great tool to ensure even application. Beauty blenders also work well with foundation. Choose the right shade for you. 17 Best CC Creams of 2021

Fernanda CalfatGetty Images

Ever woken up in the mood for flawless skin, but without the hassle of using a bunch of products? Same. You’re probably pretty familiar with foundation and tinted moisturizer, and you may know what a BB cream is, too. But allow me introduce you to CC cream, the skincare/makeup hybrid that promises glowing, lit-from-within skin.

What’s the difference between CC cream and BB cream?

CC stands for “color correcting,” and CC creams promise to smooth out irregularities, flaws, and discoloration on the skin. (BB stands for “beauty or blemish” balm, and BB cream is considered a lighter, skin-friendly alternative to foundation.) CC creams are a little heavier than BB creams and designed to smooth out redness, discoloration, and signs of aging. They can patch over zones on your skin with irregular texture, like scarring or acne marks, too.

What else is CC cream used for?

Most CC creams include ingredients that are super nourishing for your skin, so you should consider CC creams a skincare/makeup hybrid. And while some CC creams require you to find your perfect match, like you might with any beauty product, others are one-size-fits all versatile hues that can provide coverage and quenching on nearly any skin tone. Ahead, CC creams from both drugstore and luxury brands for the skincare lover who doesn’t just want to cover imperfections, but is committed to treating them, too.

12 Best CC Creams of 2020 for Every Skin Type and Texture

Even though I’m legit obsessed with makeup, some days I don’t feel like doing a full beat, you know? So on the mornings when I want just a liiiiittle coverage, I reach for a CC cream. Not to be confused with BB creams (which give you more coverage) or skin tints (which give you less), CC creams—aka color-correcting creams—are makeup-skincare hybrids that help even out dark spots, scars, and redness without totally covering up your skin. They’re more lightweight and hydrating than your regular foundation, but they’ve got a bit more staying power than, say, tinted moisturizer. Trust: The next time you want to go for a no-makeup makeup look, opt for one of these 12 CC creams, ahead.

Best CC Cream for Oily Skin

IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream Oil-Free Matte with SPF 40

If your T-zone is legit an oil slick (hi, me), this CC cream will be your saving grace. It’s infused with charcoal and colloidal clay to help absorb oil fast. Also, don’t worry—it won’t dry out your skin, thanks to its hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid.

Best Buildable CC Cream

Bareminerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 30

You can layer on this CC cream for sheer to medium coverage without getting a thick, cakey- finish. The lightweight gel formula slides right on, hydrating your skin (thanks to squalene and mineral electrolytes) while leaving you with a natural-looking finish.

Best Cruelty-Free CC Cream

Thrive Causemetics Buildable Blur CC Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 35

Not only does this cruelty-free CC cream blur out your pores and fine lines like an IG filter, but it also helps brighten your skin tone over time (thanks, vitamin C), while also absorbing excess oil (hey, flaxseed extract).

Best Organic CC Cream

Juice Beauty Stem Cellular CC Cream

Hey, guess what? You can have a really good beauty product that doesn’t have a bunch of random sh*t in it. This lightweight, organic CC cream is made without parabens, synthetic dyes, or fragrances, which, alone is cool, but it also contains aloe leaf juice and coconut oil to gently help boost hydration in your skin.

Best CC Cream for Inflammation

Erborian CC Creme Radiance Face Cream

This CC cream not only color corrects red, irritated skin, but it also helps treat it. The formula contains Centella asiatica (nicknamed “cica”)—an antioxidant-rich herb known to calm inflammation, boost collagen, and stimulate cell growth. So that redness you woke up with this morning? Yeah, you can go ahead and say good-bye to that.

Best CC Cream for Dull, Discolored Skin

Physicians Formula Super CC Correct Cream SPF 30

This formula has invisible little color-correcting pigments that work together to give you even, calm-looking skin as soon as you blend it on. The yellow pigments in the CC cream cancel out any blue tones in your skin (think: dark circles), the green pigments neutralize any redness or hyperpigmentation, and the pink pigments work to brighten dull skin tones. Magical, right?

Best CC Cream for Dry Skin

Clinique Moisture Surge CC Cream

Whether you smooth it onto bare skin or mix it with your moisturizer, this CC cream hydrates dry skin while covering up any zits, dark spots, or redness. It’s basically impossible to find a CC cream that includes a proper level of SPF (fact: SPF 30 is the bare minimum you need to stay protected) without making your face look ashy, sticky, or oily. Or it was impossible until now. Because this CC cream not only softens the look of your fine lines and pores (shout out to the sodium hyaluronate in the formula), but it’ll also protect you from cancer-causing UV rays while making you look like a radiant goddess.

Best CC Cream for Dark Spots

Smashbox Camera Ready CC Cream SPF 30

This oil-free CC cream is a godsend if you’re dealing with annoying acne scars or hyperpigmentation. It’s filled with a mix of fruit extracts and antioxidants to help brighten your skin and fade dark spots and acne marks over time. Best Anti-Aging CC Cream

It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream with SPF 50+

This fan-favorite CC cream is a perfect option if you want a little extra coverage but don’t feel like putting layers of foundation on your face. The formula also basically doubles as an anti-aging serum, thanks to its added vitamins (A, C, B, and E) and peptides that plump fine lines and help prevent new ones from forming.

Best CC Cream for Dull Skin

Aveeno Positively Radiant CC Cream Broad Spectrum

Go ahead and slather this cream on your face—it blends right in without making your skin greasy or slick. But more exciting, the formula also contains soy complex, an ingredient that has been shown to brighten dull skin, fade dark spots, and even out your skin tone with consistent use. I mean…yes, please.

Best CC Creams for Mature Skin

Photo: Imaxtree

Any product that does double duty is a win in our playbook – and CC creams are a skincare must-have that do exactly that. Actually, they’re more than double duty. While a tinted moisturizer moisturizes and provides coverage, CC creams moisturize, provide coverage, and deliver targeted, beneficial ingredients to your skin.

Those targeted ingredients can be for any number of skin concerns, from fighting redness to blurring uneven skin texture and pigmentation issues. But if your skin concern has more to do with the visible signs of aging, you need to know what the best CC cream for mature skin is, because it takes a little more thought to color and correct older skin and target signs of aging like fine lines, wrinkles as well as pigmentation issues (like age spots, hyperpigmentation) in general.

That’s a lot to look out for when you’re choosing the best CC cream for older skin, so we made it easy for you… we’ve searched out the 12+ best you can get. Plus, we’ll tell you what makes each of them a great choice.

IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream SPF 50+ $39

This is an award-winning CC cream that checks all of the above boxes. It’s formulated with an SPF 50+ physical sunscreen that protects your skin from the sun and has been clinically tested for hydrating properties deriving from the additions of niacin, hyaluronic acid, and a host of vitamins. As an added bonus, this lightweight, water-based formula not only works wonders as a full-coverage foundation, it also contains peptides for plumping and vitamin C-packed grapefruit, orange, and lime oil to brighten a dull skin tone.

By Terry Brightening Serum CC Cream $91

Two of the biggest skin concerns for mature skin are pigmentation issues and dehydration. Terry has designed a CC cream for both – each available in four shades. First up is this cult-favorite brightening CC serum that looks and feels more like a luxury skincare serum than a pigmented daily color corrector. That’s probably because, packed with exfoliating, revitalizing, and protective ingredients, it’s doing just as much good for your skin as it is making it appear healthier.

Second in this line is the popular Moisturizing CC Cream ($87). While delivering all-day moisture to thirsty skin, this color-adapting formula provides a gentle tint for a natural look that’s still capable of covering redness, sun spots, and blemishes. Perfectly passable worn all on its own, Terry’s moisturizing CC creams also make an excellent primer.

Purlisse Youth Glow Vitamin C  CC Cream SPF 50 $38

This fan-favorite CC Cream has 4-1 benefits including moisturizing, color-correcting, brightening, as well as SPF 50 sun protection. The formula’s buildable coverage (available in 4+ shades) helps hide imperfections such as dark spots, under-eye dark shadows, as well as redness. Key ingredients of the oil-free cream include the hydrating hyaluronic acid and the 15% Vitamin C that works to help brighten the skin and combat hyperpigmentation.

Juice Beauty Stem Cellular Organic CC Cream $39

Formulated with SPF 30 broad-spectrum zinc sunscreen, there’s more than just UVA and UVB protection in this multitasking, extremely popular 5-shade vegan CC cream. It’s packed with powerful antioxidants from organic apple juice and coconut oil that protect your skin from environmental aggressors, with the latter also serving as a rich and creamy emollient. Specifically formulated for mature skin struggling with tone, texture, and fine lines and wrinkles, it harnesses the hydrating properties of organic aloe vera juice, which both delivers moisture and also improves your natural moisture content.

HAN Skincare Serum CC Cream SPF 30+ $32

Han’s non-toxic serum-based SPF 30+ cc cream available in 7 shades provides buildable medium to full coverage. Blended from nourishing ingredients like Rose Hip Oil and VItamin E the skin-beneficial formula is extremely effective.  Key benefits include the cc cream’s ability to evens skin tone, smooth, deeply hydrate, and protects skin from UV damage making it one of the perfect choices to consider for older skin.

Omorovicza Complexion Perfector $99

Balancing the fine line between BB and CC cream is this masterpiece by Omorovicza. A foundation, moisturizer, SPF 20 sun cream, concealer, and anti-aging serum all in one, there’s nothing the complexion perfector can’t do, but we’ll go ahead and list it anyways. This multitasking cream protects your skin from the sun, covers pigmentation flaws, blurs lines and wrinkles, and even plumps your skin with hyaluronic acid. This is one tool everybody with mature skin should have in their skincare toolbox.

Erborian CC Cream Radiance Color Corrector Perfector $22

Equally as beneficial for tired skin as it is for mature skin, this CC cream can all but replace your moisturizer – that’s how much hydrating vitamin E you’ll find in the formula. But perhaps the best characteristic of this CC cream is its ability to blend with your skin tone to provide amazing coverage. Called the Magic Foundation, you buy a formula based on light, medium, or dark complexion and the tone-matching does the rest.

Sappho New Paradigm CC Cream $38

The first ingredient on this label is aloe vera juice, which tells you that that’s what you’ll find the most of in this CC cream. And that star ingredient not only makes this a featherweight formula but one that’s extremely hydrating as well soothing and anti-inflammatory. If you have aged skin combined with skin that’s sensitive, this is a go-to that can work on its own or as a primer underneath your favorite foundation.

Clinique Moisture Surge CC Cream $39.50

Clinique has made great strides with their formulas in recent years, removing all parabens, sulfates, fragrances, silicones, and, in the case of this CC cream, even non-vegan ingredients. What your left with it a lightweight, oil-free, hydrating formula that’s perfectly buildable. You can use it as spot coverage on red or dull patches, moderate coverage when mixed with a moisturizer, or full coverage when its used on its own and worn under foundation.

Kerstin Florian Luminizing CC Creme $46

Skincare that fixes skin imperfections is one thing, but skincare that helps your skin heals itself is a whole other. Infused with botanical and plant-based ingredients like St. Paul’s Wort and Dong Ling Cao, this CC cream gives you sheer coverage while it helps to improve collagen uniformity and reinforce the structure of your skin. That means that it covers your age spots and smooths your skin while providing it with what it needs to start healing on its own.

Supergoop! CC Screen 100% Mineral CC Cream SPF 50 PA++++  $39

At the heart of all Supergoop! products are the mineral actives that protect against harmful UVA and UVB rays. And in their quest to protect your skin from the sun while keeping you comfortable, they’ve developed incredibly lightweight formulas that are supercharged with nourishing, hydrating, and brightening ingredients. Their CC cream, for example, is infused with free-radical fighting Red Seaweed Extract, rich-in-vitamin-C apple extract, and softening sodium hyaluronate.

Armani Prima Color Control Glow Moisturizer $55

There are three things you need to know about this CC cream: Moringa Oleifera Extract, SPF 35, and Liquid Mirror pigments. Moringa Oleifera is a long-lasting ultra-hydrator, SPF 35 infused with vitamin E protects your skin from sun damage and environmental aggressors, and those liquid mirror pigments cover everything from blemishes to enlarged pores. These three ingredients form a single-step color correction and skin strengthening.

If you’re looking for the best CC cream for women over 50, then there are some formulas you’ll want to avoid and others you’ll want to embrace.

Although these do provide more coverage, they’re better for uneven skin tone or blemishes. When we’re talking about CC cream for mature skin, you need something that’s not so packed with pigment.

That’s because, although your skin will benefit from soaking up the moisturizer, it’ll leave behind pigment, and that pigment settles into fine lines and wrinkles. The effect will be to make those lines looked more pronounced or cakey.

Look for formulas that are labeled as ‘hydrating’ or ‘satin-finish’. Your skin tends to get drier as it matures, so you need these water-based formulas that are lighter and packed with ingredients that deliver deep hydration, like botanical oils or hyaluronic acid.

We should all be protecting our skin with an SPF but as you get older and your skin gets thinner, that’s even more important. Look for a CC cream with at least an SPF of 30.

The allure of a CC cream is that they’re triple-duty: they moisturize, cover, and are packed with targeted skin-beneficial ingredients. The targeted ingredients you want for mature skin are things like vitamin E for hydration and antioxidants, vitamin C for brightening age spots, and peptides that plump and rejuvenate.

Yes, your CC cream will provide coverage, but you want that coverage to be the right shade or it’ll be very obvious that you’re wearing it. As you get older, your skin tends to get paler, so you’re likely going to have to switch up your shade. Look for a warmer shade with fewer pink undertones or combine two or more CC creams to find the shade that counteracts that pale complexion.

CC creams offer the best of three worlds: hydration, coverage, and ingredients that target specific skin conditions. When it comes to the best CC cream for mature skin, those targeted ingredients should be ultra-hydrating, full of vitamins and nutrients, and packed into a lightweight formula that includes an SPF. If you’re not sure where to start, each of these top 7 best CC creams for older skin will put you on the path to a rejuvenated complexion.

Difference Between BB Cream, CC Cream,Tinted Moisturizer and Foundation?

Is it just me, or has shopping for liquid makeup these days become overwhelming?

If you’re trying to even out skin tone, cover blemishes, or find a good item for maturing skin, there’s a product that can do that job.

But how do you possibly know which one is right for you?

There are so many types and the selection is ever-growing.

It’s enough to make you throw your hands up in surrender and retreat to your fortress of Netflix and comfy pants where nobody judges your skin coverage skills.

If you’ve ever wondered what kind of liquid makeup you should be using and what they all do, I’m here for you, ladies.

Whether you’re a beginner to the makeup game and want to know the difference between all these products like bb and cc cream with spf 50 BLAH, or you’ve heard mention of the alphabet soup that is BB, CC (and yes even DD) creams and don’t quite know what they all have to offer, I’m gonna break it down.

Today, I’m excited to decode the makeup aisle mystery and uncover some of the features of each of these similar (but oh so different) makeup formulas.

Let’s get to it!

What is a tinted moisturizer?

A tinted moisturizer is a pigmented moisturizing liquid-cream natural makeup product. The hardest part is finding one that is actually natural (and not lying about its ingredients or spf coverage) and the right tone for your skin!

Throwing Shade

First things first, let’s talk about how to find the right shade of makeup for your skintone.

That means 85% are picking the wrong shade!

At some point in our lives, we’ve probably all used the wrong color makeup only to find out later how weird it looked (you should see my ghosty-faced sophomore Winter Formal Dance photo), so it’s imperative that we get this right.

Consider your skin type – Choose a makeup that is best suited to your skincare concerns. If you have oily skin, go for an oil free makeup to reduce shine. Dry? Look for a hydrating formula or a tinted moisturizer. If you have sensitive skin, consider using a mineral-based makeup which typically includes less irritants. Remember, healthy skin is makeup’s best canvas!

Choose for your undertone – You’re not only choosing a makeup shade based on the lightness/darkness of your skin, you also want to base your choice on the undertones of your skin (cool, neutral and warm). A handy way to determine this is to look at the veins at the inside of your wrist. If they look blue or purple, your undertone is cool; if they’re green or olive colored, you’re warm; and if they’re a mix of both, you’re a neutral undertone aka skin tone.

Test on your jawline – Test three shades that look closest to your skin color along your jawline and choose the one that disappears into skin. Overhead lighting in the makeup aisle can be harsh so, if possible, try to stand near a window or get as close to natural light as possible.

Different Types of Liquid Makeup

Alright, now that we know how to find the right shade of makeup, let’s find out what type of makeup is best for you!

Whether you’re looking for light or heavy coverage, sun protection or anti-aging benefits, there’s one out there for you.

Let’s take a look at what each of these products has to offer!

Tinted Sunscreen

Tinted sunscreens are an excellent way to get smooth coverage with effective sun protection at the same time.

This is the perfect combo for everyday wear since they offer lighter coverage while still nicely evening out skin tone.

This is a great option if you’re not used to wearing makeup or don’t like the feel of heavier foundation.

Plus, it cuts down time in your get-ready routine since it’s basically liquid makeup and moisturizer and in one!

As a busy working mom, I love my tinted sunscreen.

It’s super convenient, but still effectively hydrates and gives me light coverage to even out my skin.

And, it’s nice knowing that my sun protection is taken care of!

Remember, if you’re going to be in direct sunlight for a while, reapply SPF every two hours or more if you’re swimming or sweating!

Use When:

  • You want light coverage or a natural look
  • You’re not used to wearing heavier makeup
  • You want easy, everyday lightweight coverage, hydration and SPF protection like SPF 50 all in one

Pro Application Tip: After you’ve moisturized your face, apply tinted sunscreen as you would your regular moisturizer. Starting in the center of your face, apply a dime-sized amount with your fingers and blend out and up until your face is evenly covered and sunscreen absorbs into skin. You’re good to go!

If you’re looking for coverage, foundation is the name of the game.

It has a higher pigment concentration and thicker consistency than other liquid makeups, so it covers a multitude of blemishes including acne, scars, hyper-pigmentation and age spots and even dark spotswhile giving you a smooth, flawless finish.

Foundations also usually come in a broader range of shades, so if you have trouble matching your skin tone, you might have better luck in the foundation spectrum.

If you have oily skin, an oil-free formula or matte foundation will give you a long-lasting, mattifying look that will keep the mid-day shine at bay.

Pro Tip: If you like your foundation, but find it’s too heavy to wear for everyday, mix a couple drops with your moisturizer for lighter coverage. You can also mattify it a bit (thus, taking away the heavy feel) but sweeping a light layer of setting powder over top!

Use When:

  • Coverage is your top priority
  • You need a wider shade range

Pro Application Tip: A clean and moisturized face is the perfect canvas for foundation, and don’t forget your daily SPF! Wait five minutes for skin to absorb moisture and sun protection before you apply your makeup. As an option, you can start with a primer to minimize pores and give your skin a smoother surface to prevent anything that might clog your pores. Next, apply your foundation with a foundation brush starting in the center of your face and blending out and down. Continue blending with a damp blending sponge, using a rolling motion to press into skin for a flawless finish!

While we’re talking coverage, I have to mention concealer, the hardest working makeup in the coverup business.

Most of us are probably familiar with classic concealer, a thicker cream or liquid used to camouflage flaws, blemishes and undereye circles.

But, I’m super excited to share a couple concealer tips that you may not know!

Not Just Nude

Concealer isn’t just for hiding a zit, it’s also used for color correction!

Have you ever seen a green or yellow concealer and wondered what it does?

It works as a complementary color (colors that are opposite on the color wheel and neutralize each other when mixed) to counter different tones in your skin like redness or eye circles, and evens things out so you can post up flawless.

To find out which areas of your face could benefit from color correction, check out your face in natural light.

Then, refer to the handy color chart below.

To apply: Dot a small amount of concealer onto face after you’ve applied any foundation or liquid makeup. Blend using a clean fingertip, pat lightly to blend into skin. You can also use a concealer brush for beautiful, even results!

Get in the Triangle

When you’re covering up those telltale undereye circles, don’t just sweep concealer under your eyes and call it a day.

There’s a better way!

For an application that will bring instant illumination to eyes, apply concealer in an upside down triangle shape starting under your eyes and extending to a point toward your cheekbone, and blend up and out.

This will give your eyes lift and light rather than just covering those snooze button circles.

BB Cream

BB, or “beauty balm”, creams were born in Germany when they were formulated by dermatologist for patients recovering from facial procedures to offer coverage and promote healing.

They found popularity in Asia before hitting the U.S. marketplace in 2011.

BB cream sales neared $9 million in their first year in U.S. department stores.

They’ve maintained popularity with their reputation of being a one-stop-shop miracle formula.

While they offer light to medium coverage (lighter than foundation but thicker than tinted moisturizer), they also boast a bevy of other benefits:

Anti-aging ingredients to improve skin’s elasticity

Antioxidants to fight and protect against free radical damage

Sun protection

BB creams are basically makeup with some added skincare factors thrown in.

Some target more specific concerns than others, so look for one that will address your skincare priorities.

The only downside? There’s not a very wide range of shades or colors, so you’re kind of limited.

However, because they offer lighter coverage, you may not need an exact match.

Use When:

  • You want light to medium coverage
  • You want a natural look, don’t like the feel of heavy makeup
  • You need a light tint with anti-aging benefits
  • You have acne-prone skin (look for an oil-free BB cream)
  • You have dry skin, want a makeup that offers hydration

CC Cream

The main goal of these “color correcting” or “complexion correcting” creams is to even out skin tone targeting blotchiness, redness, sallow or dull complexions and hyper-pigmentation, melasma, age spots and scarring.

CC creams use light-diffusing particles to neutralize and even out color and skin tone.

Many also include anti-aging ingredients to reduce fine lines and wrinkles and SPF sun protection.

The consistency of CC creams tends to be lighter, like a whipped airy texture, and they offer lighter and more luminous coverage than a BB cream.

These are going to give you a more natural glow with mid to light coverage while evening your skin tone and blurring imperfections.

If you’re looking for a little more coverage, CC creams make a great color correcting primer when used under foundation.

Because they’re lighter, CC creams are also a great option if you have oily skin since they won’t appear as cakey.

Use When:

  • Your main priority is evening your skin tone
  • You want light coverage while still blurring imperfections
  • You want a natural look with anti-aging benefits
  • You have oily skin
  • You don’t like the feel of heavy makeup

Are there really even DD creams?

Yes, the beauty balm alphabet knows no bounds.

A DD cream stands for either “Daily Defense,” “Double-Duty,” or “Dynamic Do-All” depending on who you ask.

It’s still relatively new to the makeup family, so nobody has really nailed it down quite yet.

What we do know is that it supposedly combines the benefits of its BB and CC cream predecessors while offering more sun protection, anti-aging boosters and preventing moisture loss, making them ideal for users with mature skin.

Stay tuned to see if these DD creams grow in popularity.

There’s even rumor of an EE cream….

Fight against wrinkles on the forehead and around the eyes, fading facial contours and other signs of skin aging.Anti-aging cosmetics intensively moisturize and nourish the skin, as well as restore its elasticity, tighten and prevent the formation of wrinkles. Choose the right mask or anti-aging cream , firming serum or anti-wrinkle eye cream . Enjoy the beauty and radiance of your skin!

Anti-aging cosmetics according to age

The correct anti-aging care depends on the skin type, its condition and, of course, on the age.One anti-wrinkle cream is suitable for mature skin, and the other is for the first wrinkles after 25 years. The older the skin, the more intensive care and a high concentration of active substances it needs.

  • Anti-aging care 30+ : The first expression lines appear shortly before the age of thirty, and then collagen production begins to decline. Therefore, you should choose intensive moisturizers (for example, anti-wrinkle cream with hyaluronic acid), as well as products with UV protection (for example, day cream with SPF).
  • Anti-wrinkle care 40+ : The skin loses its elasticity and the first deep wrinkles appear under the eyes, around the mouth and on the forehead. Look for anti-aging creams that support collagen production and have a firming effect.
  • Rejuvenating Care for Mature Skin 50+ : Fading facial contours, deep wrinkles and age spots – choose firming products that fill in wrinkles and prevent skin pigmentation, such as creams with retinol.

What to do with wrinkles? The basics of proper anti-wrinkle care

  • At the heart of everything is regular cleansing of the skin in the morning and in the evening. Only cleansed skin is able to absorb life-giving substances obtained from skin care products. Use an exfoliation once a week to remove dead skin cells.
  • After cleansing the skin, apply the moisturizing anti-wrinkle serum . Serums penetrate deep into the skin, renewing its cells and providing a tightening effect.
  • After the serum, apply anti-wrinkle cream , designed for your age. In the morning, use a lighter anti-wrinkle day cream, preferably with SPF protection, and in the evening, a thicker, nourishing anti-wrinkle night cream that rejuvenates and rejuvenates your skin while you sleep.
  • For the care of the skin around the eyes, use the special anti-wrinkle eye cream . The skin in this area of the face is very thin and easily prone to wrinkles, so it needs special anti-aging care.
  • Once a week, apply the special anti-wrinkle mask , which will provide your skin with intense hydration and nutrition.

Lifting: How to tighten skin and strengthen facial contours

  • If, in addition to wrinkles, you have aging skin, then add to your anti-aging care tightening creams and serums , which restore skin firmness and elasticity.
  • Facial rejuvenation and firming of its contours can be accelerated with massage .Pay attention to a facial massager or gua sha plate.
Popular Anti-Aging Ingredients:
  • Retinol: A powerful antioxidant that slows down aging and smoothes wrinkles. Promotes cell regeneration and growth, as well as smoothes and tightens the skin.
  • Hyaluronic acid: intensely moisturizes the skin and penetrates into its deep layers. Supports the production of collagen and elastin fibers responsible for skin elasticity.
  • Collagen: stimulates the process of cell renewal, maintains skin elasticity.Protects the skin from negative external influences.

What does it mean: BB, CC, DD, EE and even PP-creams

We will tell you how to understand creams that combine several functions in one bottle

BB- creams

BB cream was invented by German dermatologists as a remedy for healing and restoring skin after deep peels and cosmetic procedures.BB-cream, or Blemish Balm (English “healing balm”), was not appreciated by Europeans at its true worth, but found its target audience in Asia. In Korea, its formula has been refined, increasing the amount of beneficial ingredients and anti-aging ingredients. BB-cream copes with rashes, dries out inflammatory elements and is able to even out the tone of the face and eliminate excessive pigmentation. It is an excellent makeup base, masks imperfections and protects from the sun’s rays. We do not recommend giving up all care products in favor of BB cream. He is able to moisturize the skin of the face, remove irritation, but he cannot replace the main care product.

CC creams

The idea of combining the properties of foundation and caring cream did not give the scientists peace of mind. After the success of BB creams, CC creams, or Color Control, appeared. The content of tonal pigments in them is lower than in BB-creams, but they contain more components for care (sea minerals, vitamins and hyaluronic acid).CC-cream does not mask imperfections, but evens out the tone well, adjusting to the natural skin tone, nourishing and moisturizing it. An ideal summer option. To be honest, we don’t see a strong difference between CC and BB creams, so try both. Compare results under natural light and choose a cream that’s right for your skin. Some makeup artists boldly mix CC cream with regular foundation for the perfect tone.

DD- creams

The continuation of creams with two letters in the name was the Daily Defense (eng.”Daily protection”), or DD cream. A kind of hybrid of BB and CC cream. It was conceived for dry areas of the body: knees, feet and elbows (due to the impressive amount of moisturizing ingredients). But we do not spend a lot of money on these zones, so the manufacturers quickly outplayed everything by releasing a product for the face. DD Cream is truly a versatile product for every day. It contains SPF (zinc oxide), the cream protects against free radicals and even prevents premature aging. Why this cream is called a hybrid of BB and CC cream is not very clear to us personally. We would rather categorize it as a smart sun protection product. When you not only want to protect yourself from harmful sun rays, but also get the functions of a rejuvenating cream.

EE- creams

If you do not peel the skin regularly, the upper layer of the epidermis will become coarse and the complexion will turn gray. This is where Extra Exfoliation or EE creams come to the rescue. They renew and exfoliate the skin, protect from the sun, moisturize, give a radiance and a light shade. Some combine UV protection and even anti-acne blemishes. EE-cream is not suitable for frequent use and is not recommended for owners of thin and sensitive skin. The product is designed for those who suffer from a dull complexion and blackheads. Some EE creams with a lightening effect are suitable for tanning lovers: the cream can partially get rid of age spots. Although here we would turn to the good old whitening serums, for example, with retinol. Checked.Works.

PP- creams

In essence, Pink Perfect, or PP-cream, is a make-up base. The silicone particles in the cream fill the slightest irregularities of the skin, improving the relief, smoothing wrinkles, scars and shrinking pores. The skin becomes even and smooth. If you see a vulgar pink cream in a tube – do not be alarmed. On the skin, it becomes transparent and invisible. Remember to cleanse and moisturize your skin with care products beforehand. After applying PP-cream, you can safely apply a layer of regular foundation or BB- / CC-cream – choose yourself.
