    Copper is the main conductor material used for the production of winding wires.     Copper round enameled wire with a temperature index of 155.     Winding wire replacement table | Bearing-Service DV

    The table below is used by professional electric machine wrappers.If for some reason it is not possible to use the required diameter of the winding wire, then using this table, you can replace it with other diameters of the winding wires, two or more.

    Methods of using the table:

    Method # 1

    Suppose we need a winding wire with a diameter of 1.25. In the column to the right of the diameter (S mm 2 ), its area is written, which is 1.23 mm 2 . Suppose that we decided to wind in two wires (“two cores”).To do this, you need to divide the cross-sectional area of ​​1.25 by the number of wires.

    1.23 mm 2 /2 = 0.62 mm 2

    Now look for a suitable number in the area column. Note that the error can be +/- 5%, i.e. the wire we need can be from 0.59 mm 2 to 0.65 mm 2 . We find in the area column 0.636 mm 2 . In the column of diameters (to the left of the column of areas), we see that this area corresponds to a wire of 0.90. This means that the 1.25 wire can replace the 0.90 double wire.

    Method # 2 “Adding areas”
    As the professionals say, “You can wind at least a hundred different wires, the main thing is that they all fit into the groove.” The essence of this method is simple, no matter the number of wires, it is important that the sum of their areas coincides with the replaced one.
    Take the already known 1. 25 with an area of ​​1.23 mm 2 . We are required from the table to find either 2 or several wires, whose sum of their areas was approximately 1.23 mm 2 with an error of +/- 5%, i.e.e 1.17-1.29 mm 2 . We find such numbers and add

    0.159 mm 2 + 0.353 mm 2 + 0.709 mm 2 = 1.221 mm 2

    In the column of diameters (to the left of the column of areas) we see that this area corresponds to wires with diameters of 0.45 0.67 and 0.95. All these wires together replace wire 1.25

    High-frequency winding wires (litz wires) are intended for the manufacture of high-frequency inductors with a high quality factor.These wires are a bundle of enameled wires with a diameter of 0.05 … 0.2 mm, twisted in a special way, due to which the surface effect in the bundle is weakened and, therefore, the resistance of the wire to high-frequency currents is reduced.
    There are high-frequency winding wires of the following brands: LEL and LEP – without additional insulation of the beam; LELO – with one layer of silk with lavsan; LEPKO – with nylon fiber winding in one layer; LESHO – with natural silk winding in one layer; LELD – with two layers of silk with lavsan; LESHD – with two layers of natural silk winding.
    Wires of the LEP and LEPKO brands, before tinning, do not require cleaning and the use of any pickling compounds.

    Winding wires.Types and marking. Insulation and application

    Winding wires are used for the production of windings of transformers, electric motors, electromagnetic relays and many other mechanisms.

    The winding wire, unlike other types of conductors, has as the main parameter the diameter of the conductor, and not its cross section. There is a very thin wire for the windings, and it has a negligible layer of insulation. The thinnest winding conductors are made using a special production technology for especially thin conductors and electrical insulation materials.

    For a long time, winding wires were made exclusively of copper. Today, aluminum and other alloys with significant resistance are often used for them. Aluminum saves expensive and scarce copper.

    Classification

    Winding wires are classified by insulation material, cross-sectional shape and core material.

    Insulation material

    Winding wire is manufactured with the following types of insulation:
    • Fibrous.
    • Enamel.
    • Combined.

    Fibrous

    Wires with fibrous insulation have increased mechanical strength. The thickness of the fiber insulation is quite large, and can reach up to 0.4 mm per side. The chemical resistance and moisture resistance of such wires is low.

    Fibrous insulation of wires used for rewinding electric motors and producing coils of oil transformers may include paper, cotton cloth, glass, asbestos fibers, polyester, silk.These fibers and fabrics are applied in several layers like a braided stocking.

    Enamel insulation

    Viniflex, metalvin, organosilicon base, polyether terephthalic acid, polyurethane are used as enamel insulation material.

    Winding wire coated with special enamel has electrical strength, resistance to moisture, aggressive chemicals. A feature of enamel winding wires is a very small thickness of the insulated layer (maximum thickness 0.09 mm).The strength of the enamel of the PEL wire is small, such a wire is used only for windings of coils operating in a stationary state.

    High-strength enamel wire PETV, as well as PET-155 is used for windings of electric motors up to 100 kilowatts. Enamelled wire of PET-155 grade is used for the production of a new series of electric motors, the strength of its insulation allows winding the wire on automatic machines. Enamel wires are also highly heat-resistant and can withstand temperatures up to 155 ° C.

    Combined

    The winding wire with combined insulation, according to its parameters, is in an intermediate position between the two types of wires considered. The combined type of insulation includes several layers. The outer covering is usually made of fibrous material and the inner covering is enamel. For example, PELSHO wire means: copper winding wire with silk and lacquer enamel insulation.

    If the conductor is impregnated with heat-resistant varnish and covered with fiberglass, then its marking contains the letter “K”.This type of wire has become popular due to its high reliability, and is used for electric motors for hoisting and transport mechanisms, including shipbuilding cranes.

    Sectional shape

    Winding wires come in two sectional shapes:
    1. Round.
    2. Rectangular.

    Round wire cross-section is used in various fields. This wire has high strength and electrical characteristics.

    Rectangular wire sizes are standardized.Such a wire is often used for transformer windings. The thickness of the rectangular halves is up to 5.9 mm, and the width is up to 14.5 mm.

    The ratio of these dimensions may vary. There are some drawbacks in the use of flat winding wires. When it is wound on a coil, there is a high probability of damage to the insulation, and also, with very small wire cross-sections, it is visually difficult to distinguish the smaller side of the cross-section from the larger one.

    An important element in any winding is the turn of the conductor around the core.The required wire cross-section is selected according to the current power. Round wire is usually used for light loads, while rectangular wire is used for higher loads.

    Conductor material

    Most winding wires are made from the following materials:
    • Copper.
    • Aluminum.

    Copper winding wires make up the majority of all wires produced. They have low resistivity and significant weight.The cost of copper wires is high.

    Recently, instead of copper wires for windings, they began to use aluminum wire, which is much lighter in weight, has a lower cost, but has a higher resistivity than a copper conductor.

    Marking

    To mark the wire, mark it, which means the material of the core and insulation.

    • At the beginning of the designation is the letter “ P ” for copper wire, and means “wire”.
    • To distinguish aluminum and copper wires at the end of the marking there is the letter “ A “, for example, PEVA.
    • If the vein is made of an alloy with high resistivity, then the designation contains additional letters, for example, HX – nichrome, M – manganin, K – constantan.
    • To designate a soft conductor, put the symbol “ M “, for a hard one – “ T “. For example, wire PEMT is a copper wire made of hard wire, and wire PEMM is made of soft wire.

    Letters for designation of insulation

    • ЭМ – high-strength polyvinyl enamel.
    • EL – oil base.
    • EV – high-strength polyvinyl acetate enamel.
    • L – lavsan.
    • Ш – natural silk.
    • B – cotton yarn.
    • О – one layer.
    • C – glass fiber.
    • ШК – nylon.
    • D – two layers.

    If the marking contains the 2nd letter “P”, it means that the insulation is in the form of a film. PPF wire is equipped with insulation in the form of fluoroplastic film.

    For marking combined insulation, the symbols are in the order of the layers, starting from the inner one. PELSHO – copper wire, oil-based enamel and single-layer silk braid.

    Requirements

    • The winding wire is covered with uniform insulation.Allowed at some points of thickening according to the brand and size of the wire.
    • Wire is transported in coils, drums and bobbins, depending on standard sizes and brands. The conductor in such packages should be wound evenly and tightly, without tangling turns. The number of lengths of wire in a coil or coil must correspond to the size and brand of wire.
    • Packages should be packed with paper that can protect the wire insulation from damage during transportation. The greatest weight of the box with the wire should not be heavier than 80 kg.
    • A label is attached to the drum and reel with the designation of the manufacturer’s plant, weight, standard size and brand of wire, as well as other parameters.

    How to choose winding wires for a motor

    The selection of the required wire for rewinding electric motors is carried out taking into account the class of temperature resistance, the permissible insulation layer and other requirements.

    Enamel winding wires have the minimum insulation layer thickness. They are used with an increased percentage of filling the groove during winding.The smooth surface of the insulation makes it easier to lay them in the grooves, and its small thickness with increased heat transfer provides protection against overheating.

    The use of enamelled wires should be appropriate for the specific varnishes and solvents used in the particular plant, or the brands of varnishes that the company is able to provide. There are solvents and varnishes that can destroy enamel. And also, when heated to 170 degrees, this insulation becomes plastic, which does not allow it to be used for windings of rotors rotating at a high angular velocity.

    The maximum thickness of the insulated layer has a wire for wrapping with a combination and a fibrous layer. Its use is prohibited for windings in an aggressive or humid environment. For such purposes, it is advisable to use winding wires equipped with glass insulation, but the low insulation strength imposes certain restrictions on the use of such wires. Although, in terms of temperature resistance, glass-insulated wires are suitable for similar classes of windings. When purchasing a winding wire, it is more necessary to take into account that the cost of a wire of one standard size depends on the brand.When repairing low-voltage electrical machines, the wire price will account for most of the financial cost of the total repair cost.
